Journals are the most important vehicles for sharing research results. Some countries (such as Brazil, Chile and Portugal) are underrepresented in terms of originating papers published in top Information Systems journals. This theoretical paper aims to provide a roadmap signposting the key elements for a paper to meet the criteria for publication in the top Information Systems journals. Ten dimensions for critically reviewing Information Systems papers were identified in the literature. Considering the importance of having a paper published in a top journal, for both the author and for the institution to which he is affiliated, this paper might be used by researchers wishing to submit papers to top journals, as well as by editors and reviewers who might benefit by reflecting on the standards adopted in peer review systems.

This paper aimed to carry out an analysis of Joule’s original texts, written in the middle of the XIX century, trying to understand how the changes in heat concept occurred throughout his work. To support the theoretical analysis, a literature review was made with texts about the Science history and the study of alternative conceptions about heat. Guided by this literature review, the Discursive Textual Analysis was used as the methodology to examine which factors influenced Joule in changing his conception of the nature of heat. Joule initially accept the caloric theory and, instigated by internal aspects of his research and work by other researchers such as: Rumford, Davy and Herapath, he begins to understand the heat as a state of motion of the particles. We believe this work has the potential to serve as a subsidy for the teaching of Physics, where the study of Joule’s work can contribute so that there is a reframing of the heat concept for the students.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of congenital hypothyroidism in children with filter paper TSH levels (f‐TSH) between 5 and 10 μUI/mL in the neonatal screening. Methods: This was a retrospective study including children screened from 2003 to 2010, with f‐TSH between 5 and 10 μIU/mL, who were followed‐up during the first two years of life when there was no serum TSH normalization. The diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism was defined as serum TSH ≥10 μIU/mL and start of levothyroxine treatment up to 2 years of age. Results: Of the 380,741 live births, 3,713 (1.04%) had f‐TSH between 5 and 10 μIU /mL and, of these, 339 (9.13%) had congenital hypothyroidism. Of these, 76.11% of the cases were diagnosed in the first three months of life and 7.96% between 1 and 2 years of age. Conclusion: The study showed that 9.13% of the children with f‐TSH between 5 and 10 μIU/mL developed hypothyroidism and that in approximately one‐quarter of them, the diagnosis was confirmed only after the third month of life. Based on these findings, the authors suggest the use of a 5 μIU/mL cutoff for f‐TSH and long‐term follow‐up of infants whose serum TSH has not normalized to rule out congenital hypothyroidism.

Most of the national and international documentary heritage are on paper. From industrialization in the manufacture of such material, paper with acidity levels has been produced which, together with other factors, has been causing the deterioration of this type of documentary heritage. In recent decades, with the incorporation of new paper production processes this problem has been partly solved. The international standards organism ISO has drafted two rules in this connection: ISO 9706 and ISO 11108. With the spread and recommendation for the use of permanent paper for preservation of documentary heritage in the long term, it is essential to know the standards and be well informed. This article describes the variables in the manufacture of paper that influence the permanence of the papers. It also identifies the concepts and history that surround both ISO standards and the main characteristics and component parts of them. The annex provides a glossary of key technical terms used.

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the vegetables that has shown the greatest growth in cultivation in recent decades, with a harvest of 4.5 million tons in Brazil in 2018, with Goiás being the largest producer in the country. Usually, the determination of the chemical profile and pesticide residues in tomatoes is performed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS), which provide high analytical performance but require several steps of sample preparation. This work employed a simpler and faster technique, the paper spray ionization mass spectrometry (PSI-MS). PSI-MS was combined with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to differentiate the varieties of table tomatoes in a scenario that aims to determine and identify each variety’s chemical constituents. This study also aimed to determine the insecticide chlorpyrifos and the fungicide cyazofamid in the peel of the varieties BS II0012 and Sweet Heaven. The chemical profile obtained from the analysis of the peels of thirty-one varieties of table tomatoes (Flatten, Elongated, Cherry, Beefstake and Santa Cruz) was determined by PSI(-)-MS, resulting in reproducible mass spectra with signals that. The samples were grouped according to the variety using PCA. The principal ions were m/z 191 (C6H8O7), 271 (C15H12O5), 609 (C27H30O16), 695 (C39H68O8P), and 741 (C32H38O20), and were identified using fragmentation experiments. Finally, a quantitative method was developed for the determination of the fungicide cyazofamid by PSI(+)-MS using the peels of the tomatoes BS II0012 and Sweet Heaven as matrices. The method showed a calibration curve with R2>0.99 and limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of 10 ng.mL-1 and 25 ng.mL-1, respectively. The recovery ranged from 89% to 108%, within the established by ANVISA (2017). The results obtained in this work reinforce the potential of the PSI-MS technique as a fast and simple analytical technique for the evaluation and determination of the chemical profile and pesticide residue in tomatoes. The present research aimed to investigate the use of 'paper games' as a collaborative play resource for the interpretation and solution of problems, with a class of 25 students belonging to the 5th year of elementary school, from a public school in the city of Bauru / SP . The idea of conducting this research arose from a concern about the difficulties of these students in the face of solving problems. To this end, we sought to answer the following research question: How can ‘paper games’, applied to a class of 5th grade of elementary school, contribute to the interpretation and solution of mathematical problems? The analysis instruments used were: Interview 1; application of role games ("fair", "bank", "snack bar", "small market" and "stationery"); Interview 2, Interview 3, Diagnostic and diagnostic activities and Final Diagnostic Activity. The data were analyzed qualitatively, through Content Analysis, according to Bardin (1977), according to categories of analysis established a priori, based on the studies of Mayer (1992) and Sternberg (1992).These games were applied with the purpose of articulating mathematics with everyday situations. The results showed that the use of “paper games” brought benefits to the interpretation and solution of problems, since the participants were able to experience the applicability of mathematical content and execute, in a practical way, the planning of the strategies they considered for this solution.

How can we understand the role of the police in Brazil’s public security system? In particular, have reforms initiated since the 1985 transition to democracy made the police more accountable to the public? This article addresses those questions. The next section describes the importance of public security as a political issue in Brazil. The article then examines the notion of accountability, and offers a justification of the use of case studies from Recife with which to explore the dilemmas of public security reform. In the following sections, the article analyses the impact of two new accountability mechanisms on policing in Recife – the police ombudsman and community councils. The article argues that so far, the operation of these mechanisms has been marked by informal barriers, barriers that have stymied the enhancement of police accountability to the public. The conclusion summarizes the argument.

Paper Kinship: Law, Power and Resistance in an Ethnographic Scene with Foreign Migrants starts from an "ethnographic scene" with foreign migrants in a lawyer's office to discuss the role that migratory documents play on kinship in the transnational movement. By doing this, it highlights how the state and the Law discipline these relations and how migrants themselves, using the legal logic of documentary production, elaborate themselves as persons, in resistance to state power. Based on this experience, named here as paper kinship, a reelaboration of the concept of document is proposed, encompassing both the bureaucratic agency and that of the subjects of documentation. With the offer of unlimited tax exemptions, public financing through BNDES and other industrial development programs and projects, the industries established and started the processes for the duplication of their industrial plants. Already, the settlers are at the mercy, therefore, can not obtain access to investments, nor to the financing of public banks and other development agencies. In this perspective, the only source of financing for family agricultural production ends up being the paper mills themselves, through their PDS - sustainable development plans and programs. Only in the settlement where the research was given there are 181 lots, but less than 20 were benefited by the financing. In this sense, the form and the model of financing, the speed and volume of resources contributed are at the absolute and exclusive discretion of the own pulleys, which has social and economic repercussions among the settlers, creating as a zone of imprisonment of the settlers to the paper, here called cages of paper. Objective: This article reflects on what teachers do when they recommend and prescribe works of literature to their students. It also examines how recommendation and prescription are important in children’s literary education. -- Methodology: The article reviews the research on language and literature education and examines particular classroom scenarios that explain why teachers choose certain roles over other when they recommend and prescribe works of literature. -- Results: In recent years, the most important progress in language and literature education has been tied to redefining teachers’ roles and the objectives of education as these relate to children’s acquisition of literary reading skills. In this context, teacher education programmes need to be revised in order to equip teachers with a literary canon that helps them address their task effectively.

In the first issue of the Portuguese Journal of Behavioral and Social Research, the importance of calculating, indicating, and interpreting the effect sizes for the differences of means of two groups (d family of effect sizes) was reviewed. Effect sizes are standard metrics that allows the comparison of the results of statistical analyzes of different studies. Effect sizes also report on the impact of a factor on the variable under investigation and the association between variables. After reviewing the effect sizes for the mean differences between two groups (Espirito-Santo & Daniel, 2015) and most of the r family (Espirito-Santo & Daniel, 2017), the review of effect sizes for analysis of variance was lacking. Analysis of variance can be understood as an extension of the d family to more than two groups (ANOVA) or as an r subfamily in which the proportion of variability is attributable to one or more factors. In the r subfamily reviewed in this study, we analyse the change in the dependent variable that results from one or more independent variables. This analysis is focused on general linear models, including regression models and ANOVA. This article provides the formulas for calculating the most common effect sizes by reviewing the basic concepts of the statistics and providing illustrative examples computed in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The guidelines for the interpretation of effect sizes are also presented, as well as the cautions in their use. Also, the article is accompanied by an Excel spreadsheet to facilitate and expedite the calculations for interested readers.

In recent years, supply chain management has received greater attention, hence leading researchers to develop many papers on this topic. Due to its recent development, this organizational phenomenon is complex and has many variables, making the process of choosing a research topic also complex for researchers and students. Thus, this paper aims to provide an analysis of the major topics studied in over 173 papers published about supply chain management in the most important international production and operation management journals between 2004 and 2006. The results show that the major topics are coordination, information sharing between companies, production decisions, and supply chain design and performance. This paper presents a multi-user mobile learning system—specifically designed to enhance collaborative language learning through mobile devices. The system delivers an app version of a paper-based learning task, called Terminkalender, which has successfully been used for several years with students from an A1-level German language course (CEFR). The learning task requires students to interact with each other via text messages in order to jointly plan different activities and record them in an appointment calendar. While the paper-based version already had a great potential for engaging students to interact in the target language, the app not only facilitates students’ interaction, but also allows teachers to easily trace back and analyse learners’ interaction. To this end, specific software implementing several features was developed: a web-based platform for system administration, an in-app text chat function, real-time feedback on learner performance as well as a log function for storage and assessment of learners’ interaction. The experiment sheds some light on the potential of the designed system for analysing learners’ behaviour and interaction patterns as well as assessing different indicators with regard to the student use and competencies in the target language.

In the first issue of the Portuguese Journal of Behavioral and Social Research, it was described the importance of calculating, indicating and interpreting the effect sizes for the differences between means of two groups. The PJBSR intends to continue to remind of the importance of reporting effect sizes for other statistical tests. The magnitude of the strength of the relationships was not indicated in the previous paper, and it may not be known that correlation is an effect size. Thus, this paper intends to provide some guidelines to the authors on the procedures for calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient and some correlation coefficients for special data (Spearman Rho, Kendall’s Tau, Point-biserial and biserial, Phi, Cramér’s V, and Eta). For this purpose, the formulas, steps in the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), assumptions and precautions, classification of values and their interpretation will be presented. Since SPSS does not compute all the mentioned coefficients, five spreadsheets (3 ways of comparing correlations, point-biserial and biserial, and correction of correlations for samples < 60) were included in the article supplements.

The present work sought to analyze and suggest improvements to the goods distribution process carried out by the goods distribution center of a food retail company, formed by four self-service stores, located in the city of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul. case study is characterized as a descriptive research, with a qualitative approach. For data collection, a bibliographic review was first carried out in order to understand concepts about the proposed theme in a second moment, the data survey was carried out through interviews and local observation. The results made it possible to identify and describe the macroprocess of distribution of goods that is pre-defined, which is composed of the subprocesses of receiving, storage and shipping, but all occur in an organic way, without any type of descriptive script or graphic diagram, formalized. Therefore, the implementation of the BPMN diagram, made it possible to clearly visualize the flow of the activities of the Distribution Center, thus making it possible to formalize its activities in future training of conferring employees. In this study, a mixed multiobjective, multiproduct, multilevel, and multiperiod integer linear programming model has been developed to optimize logistics processes of intermediate centers whose objectives comprehend maximizing the collected quantity and meeting demand, minimizing the distance traveled between the collection points and costs. Weighted and lexicographic goal programmings have been used to deal with the multiple objectives. The revised multi-choice goal programming has also been used to incorporate uncertainty into the quantity available for collection. For the analysis of the proposed model, computational tests have been executed with instances based on literature data and real data of a Brazilian company in the sector. For all the performed tests, General Algebraic Modeling System 23.6.5 language and CPLEX 12.2.0.2 solver have been used for modeling and optimization. Although the lexicographic model presented difficulties to find viable solutions in some tests with real data, the deterministic approaches have presented good results and have shown that the formulations can assist managers in the decision-making process. It has also been verified that the variation of parameters can increase the difficulty of the model, which often makes it difficult to find a good viable solution. Despite this, the model under uncertainty has shown competitive results concerning the deterministic model, mainly because it allows to represent various scenarios. In general, results showed different solution possibilities to assist with logistical planning, not only from an economic point of view, but also environmental and social FAPESP: 2018/06858-0 FAPESP: 2018/14433-0 CAPES: código de financiamento 001 CNPq: 302730/2018-4 CNPq: 303350/2018-0

This research seeks to provide a general overview of educational research in Latin America based on the study of articles published in Latin American impact journals and written by authors of the Region. Specifically, the 1,086 articles on empirical research in education written by Latin American authors and published in journals published in Latin America and indexed in jcr (isi Web of Science), Scopus or scielo, during the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 are reviewed. Four elements are reviewed: the authorship of the articles, the subject of study, the level of education addressed and the research methodology used. The results indicate that three countries (Brazil, Mexico and Chile) concentrate 75% of the papers, 59.1% of the authors are women and 53% of the papers are signed by three or more people. Among the most studied topics include Learning and school performance, Teachers and Teaching strategies, curriculum and teaching practices. Higher Education is clearly the most studied, with 43.1% of the papers. And, finally, there is no priority methodological approach, with practically half of qualitative articles, the other half quantitative. With all this information, it is possible to conclude some elements that translate into the need for greater support for research, a rethinking of topics and levels of study and a boost to collaborative research.

A documental analysis has been made on the methodological and theoretical guidelines in the end of term papers of the Pedagogy Course at FURB University in 321 works from 2001 to 2006. It has been noticed that all the developed papers focused the educational area. As for the sub areas, the predominant ones were: education in Pre School, educational psychology, special education and educational sociology. The most used theoretical authors were: Vygotsky, Piaget, Kramer, Freire, Aries, Wallon and Ferreiro. For the sub areas, it has been suggested that the future researches should include investigations on less or not focused studied fields. The importance of classic objects of research has been understood and those must be tackled. However, in some works there is an absence of more specific authors on the studied object. Most researches have been developed on the qualitative approach and some have used quantitative data. In relation to the research types, the predominant ones were the exploratory, participant and case study types. It has been considered that such kinds are related to the process of initiation to research. The most used instruments for data collection were a questionnaire preceded by interview and observation. Several research students have used more than one instrument, which possibly led to a comprehension of the subject under a variety of aspects.

These records, verified from the chemical elemental distribution in the tree-rings series, carry information about the climate and environmental events, being this information important for the advance of the knowledge of the past climate and environmental events. The LA-ICP-MS technique has been shown to be very useful in this area of knowledge as it allows obtaining elementary information at the macro, micro, and even trace elements levels with spatial resolution at the micrometric scale. However, it is still a challenge to obtain quantitative information on tree-ring samples, since the LA-ICP-MS technique has inherent characteristics such as the dependence of the analytical signal on the matrix analyzed. Faced with this demand, and aiming purpose an analytical method that contributes with dendrochemical and paleoclimatic studies, the main objective of this master study is to develop a calibration method based on the use of filter paper as solid support, for the determination of Cu and Zn in tree-rings samples, using LA-ICP-MS. The method was based on the dispersion of a volume of 2.5 and 4.0 µL of elements standard solution in 8 mm diameter qualitative and quantitative filter paper discs, respectively, previously decontaminated. The calibration curves constructed for the monitored ions 65Cu+, 63Cu+, 64Zn+, and 66Zn+ presented a correlation coefficient varying between 0.991 and 0.999, for the data, both without and with the normalization of the signal using 13C as an internal standard. The limits of detection and quantification remained below 0.62 µg g-1 below and 1.33 µg g-1 for the monitored Zn e ions (except for the 66Zn+/13C+ specie which presented LQ of 3.11 µg g-1 for the qualitative filter), using both filters and with both types of data treatment. Regarding the validation of the method, the quantitative filter showed greater efficiency in matrix compatibilization, with recovery results for the studied CRMs of 79 – 116% and RSD of 4 – 16%, with data treated without normalization, since the signal normalization impacted on the decrease about 50% of the recovery percentage of the analytes determined on the CRMs. The analysis of the wood powder samples also showed that considering a compromise relationship, the quantitative filter paper was efficient for the elemental determination in most of the analytes in the two samples. It was then possible, using quantitative filter paper without signal normalization, under optimized conditions, to determine the concentration of Cu and Zn in samples of Hymenaea courbaril, Cavanillesia arborea, and Tipuana tipu, bringing quantitative information from the series of growth rings of such samples, allowing the observation of the pattern of variation of these inter-ring concentrations. The method has the potential to be applied in different dendrochemical and paleoclimatic studies, being a quick, simple, and cheap alternative to build calibration curves for LA-ICP-MS methods Mestrado Química Analítica Mestre em Química FAPESP 2019/00018-3; 2017/50085-3; 2018/25207-0 CAPES 001

- Abstract
Despite constant medical evolution, the reimbursement policy of Portuguese National Health Service (NHS) for the study and risk stratification of coronary heart disease has remained unchanged for several decades. Lack of adjustment to contemporary clinical practice has long been evident. However, the recent publication of the European Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of chronic coronary syndromes further highlighted this gap and the urgent need for a change. Prompted by these Guidelines, the Working Group on Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiac Magnetic Resonance and Cardiac CT, the Working Group on Echocardiography and the Working Group on Stress Pathophysiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology, began a process of joint reflection on the current limitations and how these recommendations could be applied in Portugal. To this end, the authors suggest that the new imaging methods (stress echocardiogram, cardiac computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance), should be added to exercise treadmill stress test and myocardial perfusion scintigraphy in the available exam portfolio within the Portuguese NHS. This change would allow full adoption of European guidelines and a better use of tests, according to clinical context, availability and local specificities. The adoption of clinical guidance standards, based on these assumptions, would translate into a qualitative improvement in the management of these patients and would promote an effective use of the available resources, with potential health and financial gains., (Copyright © 2020.
