The goal of this paper is to reflect about the relationship between the dimensions of education, performance and participation in the sporting context. After noting that this conceptual division is an important strategy to strengthen public policies and inclusive teaching practices, the text presents elements able to put into dialogue the educational dimensions and high performance of sport, not as antagonistic practices, but located in the conflicts, contradictions and paradoxes to consolidate the educational dimension of sport. - Abstract
The present article explores Merleau-Ponty's philosophy, in particular his work on the ontology of perception, in a search for new educational forms. In investigating the idea of infancy, the text looks for alternate possibilities for thinking an educational process more adequate to nature itself, to child's nature, and to the nature of education. Departing from the traditional occidental dichotomy between body and spirit, matter and form, existence and essence, and drawing on contemporary phenomenological theory, the paper identifies various theoretical conceptions that may make for a clearer understanding of the relation between our presence in the world and our intellectual capacities. As Merleau-Ponty's ontology shows, there is no separation between pedagogies that aim to foster autonomy and those that develop our capacity to understand others. Therefore, the questions raised here are both ethical and ontological. Children, by living at school, acquire more than objective knowledge of the world; they learn to live together as well, and how they come to understand the world will influence the way they understand their social, personal, and professional relationships. A theory that embraces both existence and essence more completely will help us to find more consistent support for our best educational practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Academic Leagues are student organizations that promote scientific, cultural, social and learning activities for their members. Spreading and updating Trauma-related knowledge, with theoretical and practical training regarding the most common medical emergencies, are measures of great impact on the improvement of the quality and efficiency of the assistance provided to victims – and this is the role played by Trauma Leagues. The Trauma, Reanimation and Emergency League of the Fluminense Federal University (LiTREUFF) began its activities in 2008, which have been acted in 3 fields: Prevention and Community Service, Pre-Hospital, and In-Hospital. With 6 years of teaching experience, LiTRE has organized courses and research activities and assistance, 360 theoretical classes and 90 hands-on sessions to its connections, as well as 45 papers presented in conferences. LiTRE's actions alongside Medical Sciences and Nursing students of the Fluminense Federal University enables a distinct technical and humanistic training which, together with medical professionals and society, promotes an improvement in the quality of assistance provided to victims of trauma and medical emergencies. - Abstract
Based on cultural studies this paper analyzes the assumptions of Adventist Pedagogy for body education, more specifically what it produces and reproduces regarding body and sport practices. The corpus of analysis consisted of 12 issues of Sinos magazine published from 1968 to 2008 by Instituto Adventista Cruzeiro do Sul (Taquara, RS). From the analysis of the empirical material, it was possible to identify the valorization of a healthy, useful and recreated body, whose production occurs through both the stimulus to the practice of some activities, particularly sports, and the rejection of others such as fights and dances. Such representations put into circulation the pedagogical proposal spread by Adventism and its doctrine by emphasizing that both actions and care to develop the body aim at developing the intellect as well as a better relationship with God. - Abstract
This paper consists of a theoretical essay which investigates the theme of citizenship as an everyday practice. It proposes conceptual interventions in this field and at the same time it seeks to establish interlocutions with situations related to educational processes, particularly those that take place at schools on a daily basis. It aims at making connections between categories related to the area of everyday life studies and the thematic perspectives of some researchers that have recently discussed the theme of citizenship education as an everyday practice. Three analytical categories, agency, experience and identity, will stand as points of interrelation between the two research lines presented on the theme. In the end, we suggest what the interconnection of those two perspectives might bring to the understanding of citizenship and for the processes of citizenship education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzes social aspects involved in the emergence of transgender (male-to-female) teachers at school. We use the notions of outsiders and heteronormativity to analyze how these teachers remain in the teaching profession. We believe that the emergence of such teachers is related to new positions relative to notions of gender in human rights policies, specifically the struggles of social movements. Finally, we argue that the emergence of these teachers cannot be understood as suspension of heteronormativity, but as the emergence of new issues to consider in the school environment. - Abstract
The Statute of Children and Adolescents emerged from a milieu which lacked true protection for this vulnerable group of people who suffered much, due to social hindrances and to the lack of interest by the State. Its true intention is to work in favor of a class that required and demanded true protection. Education is the center of discussion in current paper which debates such an important and fundamental right in favor of children and young people. The 1988 Brazilian Constitution is underlined throughout the themes under discussion and every care is meted out to the Statute of Children and Adolescents. The funding of basic education was dealt with critically and efficaciously in favor of this vulnerable group. The possible materialization or not of such guarantees is also debated. - Abstract
The production of graphic animation for elementary school has proliferated due to new communication technologies and the need for new resources to aid the learning. However, many animations are just reproductions of printed material, without an appropriate use of technology, unadjusted for the student / user and, not in line with current pedagogical concepts. This paper aims to search in literature the basis for a procedure to design instructional materials (graphic animation) connected to constructivist conceptions by applying User-Centered Design (UCD) principles. With this goal, the authors presents a literature review, compares Vygotsky's principles and UCD, and indicating a possible design process that can help making learning animation more engaged with constructivist approaches and closer to the students. ENVIRONMENTAL psychology , *SOCIAL psychology , *ARTICULATION (Education) , *SOCIAL context , *CHARACTERISTIC functions , *DEMOCRACY - Abstract
The paper presents a reflexion about the social-environmental psychology as a social psychology that aims to articulate psychology, education and environment. It is proposed a type of social-environmental intervention thought as an original and innovative strategy, whose pedagogical influences would transcend the social-environmental field to which is directed, reverberating its effects to beyond its boundaries. We search, with this reflexion, to recover the thought (near the Frankfurt School) of Kurt Lewin, transposing its postulations to the contemporary world. Thus, the proposed social-environmental intervention would consist in a draft of a cultural reconstruction method of the present in the direction of a utopian future, committed with the democracy and emancipation, a way to a true pacific revolution. The undergraduate degree in Business Administration aims to give a comprehensive view on the functioning of businesses, preparing students to work in administrative or management tasks. The objective of this study is to see how the use of technology can help teaching the IT itself to Business Administration students and to verify the expected gains for their professional lives. IT is increasingly present in our private, social or professional life, and these students -- digital natives -- seem to have a natural ability in the use of digital technology. This paper discusses the importance of IT in the teaching-learning process, it examines some academic and technological risks arising from these practices and reports as a case study an experience by the author in the subject. It concludes that the use of technology can bring gains in knowledge, but the risks must be measured and minimized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate the concept of democracy and education developed by John Dewey and Paulo Freire. Reader of the work of Dewey, Freire also had contact with the debate of the ideas of this thinker in Brazil, particularly through the work of A. Teixeira and L. Filho. Study how the thought of Dewey echoes in Freire's work helps to understand his original way of weaving his concepts. Freire takes forward the idea of Deweyan democracy as a way of life guided by reflective thinking. He saw in the the problem-solving dialogue and generator of the meanings of the transforming action of the social and historical situation an educational process that can educate, humanize, free and, thus, overcome the oppression that is also historically created by man himself. SUSTAINABILITY , *BUSINESS education , *EXECUTIVES , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *INDUSTRIAL management - Abstract
The characteristics of social and environmental sustainability have a profound effect on how academic institutions should go about generating knowledge so as to include the subject among their goals because the generation of interdisciplinary research and scientific knowledge based on the resolution of the problems encountered in society is one of their most important roles. This essay argues that the Brazilian educational institutions that prepare managers need to extend their current epistemological basis in order to able to more fully resolve the issues related to social and environmental sustainability. Thus, based on the available literature, the aim here is to reflect on and contribute towards the process of generating knowledge arrangements that facilitate the inclusion of environmental sustainability in Brazilian management programs. Articles dealing with the issue published in the Brazilian and international literature were analyzed in an attempt to identify the extent to which the subject of sustainability is currently integrated into management training. The theory base underlying this article adopts the ideas of complex thinking, as viewed by Edgar Morin. Thus, in order to propose a bases for building knowledge arrangements for sustainability that include pluralistic and reflexive features for Brazilian management programs, this article seeks to relate ideas about complexity with propositions from authors who view the relationship between structures and processes. This article is intended to be a starting point for reflection on the practice of management and, to further develop the subject, research will need to carried out among actors involved in the teaching of and research into management regarding their perceptions and knowledge about constructing a path towards including social and environmental sustainability in a pluralistic and reflexive manner in the training of Brazilian managers. Regarding the social implications of this paper and its impact on society, the intention is to propose different ways of dealing with the complex problems of the situation, link them with the dynamic and interdependent world, and so create a more plural knowledge that is in harmony with the complex changes that are occurring in the world. Regular physical activity promotes better general state of health and is essential for the prevention of many illnesses, including musculoskeletal disorders. The promotion of both physical activity and its beneficial effects on health have contributed to the fast growth in the number of children and adolescents involved in organized or recreational sports activities which, unfortunately, has been followed by a significant increase on the number of injuries related to its practice. Taking into account that children and adolescents musculoskeletal system is still developing, its overuse particularly associated to competition sports activities may have long-term effects on their health. This paper aims to review the main questions of sports-related musculoskeletal disorders in children and adolescents, including the involved ethical issues, as well as to identify some of the main risk factors and to point out some of the measures to be adopted for its prevention. Advances are needed in the implementation of the Unified Health System (SUS) in Brazil. Health workers are instituting agents of change in the practices of the working world. This paper aims to understand some possibilities to ponder on the political dimension in training these workers. The territory of study was a multidisciplinary health residence program in São Paulo. For data production, as well as observation, semistructured interviews were conducted with 14 residents, preceptors, mentors and program coordination. The analysis was divided into powers for the political dimension in teaching practices and management practices of the Residence. Powers were met in educational, management and world of care. Tensions created a process of self-examination in the subjects involved and provided new arrangements in the training process. It was evident that the residences can be devices for the formation of health workers in defense of SUS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we present an approach between the conceptions of choice in Thomas Aquinas (1224-1274) and Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980). The purpose is to offer elements for a reflection on the permanency of essentially human characteristics under quite different historical - and theoretical - conditions. The analysis follows the assumptions of Social History, from Braudel's perspective of Long Duration. In fact, it is possible to identify analogies between Thomas' and Sartre's concepts of choice, which allows us, in education, to make inferences about man's responsibility for their actions. Nanotechnology is considered a strategic area within the Brazilian Science, Technology and Innovation policy. It has been promoted since 2001, and more intensively since the launching in 2004 of the National Program for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Since 2009, the Nanotechnology Competitiveness Forum comprises a Working Group that has been analyzing the workforce needs for the development of nanotechnology in the country. The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we analyzethe profile of the workforce employed in activities involving nanotechnology and the demands of companies in terms of qualification. Secondly, we examine the supply of trained professionals by three undergraduate nanotechnology courses in the country. Based on questionnaires completed by companies in different industries that develop or use nanotechnology and interviews with coordinators of the nanotechnology courses, we identified a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary training. We found that most of current nanotechnology workers have post-graduate level and work in R&D. With respect to the provision of training in nanotechnology, our research shows two paths: one course offers interdisciplinary training in nanotechnology generally, with contributions from chemistry, physics, biology and engineering, and two others propose a specialization in nanotechnology from courses in physics and engineering. CATHOLIC priests , *IBERIANS , *PATRONAGE , *EVANGELICAL counsels - Abstract
The financing of Iberian Crowns by Catholic priests received the designation of Patronage (in spanish Patronage or Patronasgo). The patronage was, throughout the expansion process Iberian achievements inherent in an institution of Portugal and Spain. It was part of the duties of the Catholic King to ensure the presence and permanence of priests in the territories of its domain in order to ensure the new evangelization of the subjects and the process of expansion of Christianity. The funding of religious missions entailed, however, that the priests became subjects of the Portuguese king, in addition to belonging to any religious society. The aim of this paper therefore is to analyze the presence of priests' and religious brothers among the processes of Portuguese expansion in the period comprised between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Through the reading of a set of documents, especially letters, and its comparison with historiographical texts about the period we intend to demonstrate how the actions of these priests, in addition to evangelization and catechesis, contributed to the civilization of the new subjects and their consequent payment the Empire. DIFFERENCE (Philosophy) , *THOUGHT & thinking , *THEORY of knowledge , *EDUCATIONAL law & legislation , *HOSPITALITY - Abstract
The proposal of this article is to reflect upon education and otherness taking Michel Serres's philosophy as background. Considering he is a philosopher of relations, Serres offers challenging and thought-provoking ideas for this article. Here, we consider that education is accomplished only in circumstances in which difference is truly welcomed, that is, difference, from this perspective, is a fundamental condition for every education act. In order to reflect upon education, so understood, the main reference of this article is Michel Serres's Le tiers-instruit (translated into English as Troubadour of Knowledge), more precisely the prologue to that book, in which the author presents Harlequin's story, who eventually becomes Pierrot. With Harlequin, Serres stimulates us to reflect upon the welcome to difference through multiplicity, cross-breeding, through that which is multicolour; features of a multifaceted character. However, the education process does not finish there. In the end, the results of many a mark, branded by several encounters, is the white sum, that is, Harlequin becomes Pierrot. It is in the change from Harlequin into Pierrot that education, as a relation with the otherness, becomes evident in Le tiers-instruit. This paper, thus, intends to reflect upon the conditions for a hospitable welcome to difference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: in the last two decades teacher's voice has been the target of many researches due to the high incidence of voice disturbances in this professional class; therefore, the need for these professionals to take part in actions that ensure the vocal health has been reinforced. Few papers in the literature describe vocal health programs and their results. Procedures: describe a Vocal Health Program of Educators from public schools (kinder garden and elementary schools) from the countryside of São Paulo inland, developed from 2002 to 2005, that was made up by basic voice group to offer essential theoretical and practical knowledge about vocal care, including the participants' vocal screening; advanced voice group to reorganize the phonation process and the voice use in classroom. Results: the average of 56% of total enrolment participated in the actions; 62.9% of voice disturbance is the result of vocal screening, most of it with discreet vocal deviation; 100% of participants referred 3 or more voice symptoms at the beginning of advanced voice group, and after the group had finished, 45% still had 4 to 13 symptoms; data about vocal self-perception show low scores in vocal impact in professional activities. Conclusion: the description showed the need for constant regulation of the program in order to reach its goals. The low participation in actions might be related to the discreet impact of voice in professional activities, although this fact requires further investigation. The highest measured benefit of the participation in the advanced vocal groups was the reduction in the volume e of vocal symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AESTHETICS , *COMMUNICATION , *PHILOSOPHY - Abstract
The aim of this paper is to discuss the possibilities of conceiving, at the present time, the educational practice as having an aesthetic dimension in its processes of transmission and reception of systematic knowledge, as a means of political resistance to the instrumental rationality to which reflection on the meanings of this activity has become irrelevant. To this end, we resort to the work of Kant and Jean Francois Lyotard, particularly at their reflections on the aesthetics of the sublime, in order to analyze the possible correlation between artistic production and reception aesthetics and communicative process comprising the school-teaching relationship, focusing on the aesthetic implications of the teaching that they might become objects of philosophical reflection of the teacher. This paper discusses the design method of intuition developed by Henri Bergson in order to more clearly delineate its meaning throughout his philosophy while highlighting how such a concept stands in front of the traditional conception of scientific method and philosophy. In parallel, it seeks to show how, for Bergson, intuition, by becoming a rigorous philosophical method, can teach us to understand more deeply the reality of life, providing, in consequence, a more balanced intellectual activity of man, able to allow their moral elevation. Finally, it indicates how these methodological, epistemological and ethical conceptions of Bergson relate to some of his reflections on education in general. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

NATIONAL character , *NATIONALISM , *EDUCATION , *EDUCATION policy - Abstract
The article discusses the importance that is currently ascribed to the "rediscovery" of national identity in contemporary social thought. This process of attributing importance to the national identity has taken place throughout the world and has affected the local production. In the wake of its search for "self-understanding", this process focuses on authors who were central in their time and were later marginalized, but today are key to understanding the process of construction of the national identity and the role played by education in it. At the local level, one of such leading intellectuals is Oliveira Vianna. This paper tries to understand the nature of some of the elements of the understanding of the national identity and education by this author, who is sometimes associated with Brazilian authoritarian thought, due to analytical categories introduced by him, such as "clan" and "lack of solidarity". It deals with the contemporariness of his critique of the state and the role of education derived from it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper discusses the concept of social and cultural reproduction through schooling and analyzes its actual potential and its contributions to the construction of a discourse of resistance in education. On the basis of a comparative method, it examines the presence of connections between the paradigms of reproduction and resistance. For this purpose, it describes the main features of both sets of theories, sometimes confronting them in order to find common theoretical elements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WORKING class , *DEMOCRACY , *CAPITALIST societies , *POLITICAL autonomy - Abstract
This paper seeks to understand the relationship between the thinking of Maurício Tragtenberg and the ideals of the Modern School of Francisco Ferrer y Guardia in the early 20th century, based on the analysis of Tragtenberg's publications in the journal "Educação and Sociedade" (1978- 2008). In these publications, emphasis is given to the approximations between the thoughts of the two authors in defense of an education focused on the interests of the working class, making it a class conscious of the domination processes of capitalist society as well as the possibilities of overcoming them. By denouncing the monopolization of knowledge by private, prejudiced and exclusionary interests -- whether religious or in the secular form of the bourgeois state -- the education advocated by the authors seeks to lead people through awareness, autonomy and self-management, all of which are necessary for a true democracy. Against training, obedience and ideological manipulation, the authors converge in the defense of an education aimed at freedom, criticism and solidarity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ANTIGONE (Mythological character) , *CITY-states , *DRAMATISTS , *CREON, King of Thebes (Greek mythology) , *DRAMA , *INTERMENT - Abstract
Having as a frame of reference certain formative aspects in Antigone by Sophocles, this paper intends to discuss how the dramatist, in the aforementioned play, represents the process of transition between myth and reason -- gentilic faith and City-State laws -- which the Greek society of the 8-5th centuries B.C. faced. The reflection proposed by Sophocles has as its guiding principle the acts of princess Antigone against an edict by King Creon, concerning the burial ceremony of her brother, Polynices. As the protagonist is backed up by the religion of the patriarchal society, the antagonist is the defender of the City-State laws. Within this conflict, not only did Sophocles make use of his character's issues, but also those of the Greek Man during that transitional time. Thus, in Antigone, the poet presents, though not intentionally, the formative ideal that would fulfill the necessities of the Hellenic society of his time. Therefore, in order to develop this approach, a methodology that contemplates the Greek society of his time is required, as this is the basis to discuss the formative process inherent in Sophoclean drama. EDUCATION , *EDUCATIONAL quality , *POVERTY , *INCOME inequality , *EQUALITY , *SOCIAL conditions in Brazil, 1985- - Abstract
The low levels of education in Brazil are associated with poverty and social inequality. The present paper based on the educational determinants emphasizes the way in which poverty reduces opportunities and makes it difficult to obtain higher education levels. It briefly traces the development of poverty, inequality and educational levels. We see that poverty exists, but with sharp regional differences. Within education there exist great disparities between the private and public schools, exacerbating the inequalities and the widening of income disparities. Basic universal education has been achieved, but with a very low quality. The latest policy has centered on this question, but it is necessary to strengthen the conditions and stimulate the demand for education. This complex framework shows the need for public action, both in promoting a greater demand for education and the provision of quality education in the public sector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHILDREN of immigrants , *SECONDARY education , *CITIZENSHIP , *SOCIAL classes , *SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC factors , *STUDENT aspirations - Abstract
This paper analyses the school pathways of immigrants' children and their native classmates in lower secondary education. It covers variables such as the place of birth and nationality of the children and their parents, the parents' social class and schooling, academic experience and aspirations and expectations in school. The results indicate that national origin, after controlling the effect of the socio-demographic variables, has little impact on the students' school pathways and that the parents' academic qualifications and the students' sex are more relevant. CRITICAL theory , *EDUCATION , *CULTURAL industries , *TEACHING , *SCHOOLS - Abstract
This paper aims to draw some outlines of what I understand to be background for possible investigations that examine the cultural / educational problems in Brazil from the perspective of Critical Theory. Under the light of these outlines I intend to present two directions of research which are the main objectives of the research project I develop within the Department of Educational Psychology of College of Sciences and Letters of Unesp in Araraquara. In particular, it is necessary to understand the internal deformation that education suffers as a concrete substance of the teaching process in schools, which makes an empirical investigation how the cultural industry's schemes become present in the “didactic pedagogical scene” necessary. On the other hand, the elucidation of this problem requires a theoretical investigation about the broader process of constitution of today’s subjectivity under the impact of that industry. Both goals set forth herein are intended to provide subsidies to make readings about new educational demands possible in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PHYSICS experiments , *ACTIVITY programs in education , *LEARNING , *HIGH school students , *ACADEMIC motivation - Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to determine the degree of importance that experimentation has in physics education. To that end, a project was developed with 18 first-year high school students from a private institution in Maringá, Paraná State, during the 3rd bimester of the 2006 school year. Research and production were done by the students outside school hours, and every 15 days a physics class was given to answer questions. Over the course of these classes, we noticed that, in spite of the difficulties faced by the students, what effectively happened were moments full of joy, enthusiasm and motivation, which really got our attention, as the students had been put in a new situation. During that period, information was collected through reports by the participants in the project, as well as photos and videos produced by them. Ten months later, an interview was conducted with each student who had participated in the project to observe whether the experimentation can contribute effectively with the teaching and learning process, providing good results in student learning. DISTANCE education , *DATA transmission systems , *TEACHING , *INFORMATION & communication technologies , *COMMUNICATION in education , *TEACHER-student communication - Abstract
Distance Learning requires a transmission system and teaching strategies appropriate to the different technologies used. The didactic strategy of distance learning means choosing methods and structured instructional means to produce effective learning. The objective of this paper is to present reflections on distance learning and information and communication technology (ICT) in education, as well as provide an exploratory research to better define the problem, to improve the understanding of distance learning and the use of ICT's. In the exploratory research, with nonprobability sampling, data were obtained through a semi-structured questionnaire, developed electronically. Distance learning provides individuals with training and re-training. However, it is necessary to create conditions to improve communication between students, students and tutors, and students and teachers in the learning environment as demonstrated in table 3, and the media, as demonstrated in Table 4. This paper is about the theorical methodological links between Community Psychology and Liberating Education, discussing their social ideological and ethical political proposals. It concerns an unfolding of a research conducted by the Núcleo de Psicologia Comunitária (Nucom) of the Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC), with the intention of contributing to the epistemological development of the theorical methodological milestone of the Community Psychology. In order to reach this aim, we made a theorical revision, exploring, in the trajectory of the constitution of Liberating Education and Community Psychology, the meeting of both theories, specifically in the Ceará state. This review is also based on theorical methodological elements that identify points of convergences and integration between both disciplines, as well as the social ideological foundations which reflect their view of the world. So, we point to a relevant epistemological consistency related to the integration of Liberating Education in the theorical milestone of Community Psychology, giving theorical methodological cohesion and ethical political coherence to this liberating psychological praxis, in the axis of theory, praxis and social compromise. REASONING , *INTELLECT , *MEDIEVAL civilization ,PHILOSOPHY of Christianity - Abstract
The present paper was developed by making use of some theoretical contributions by Tomás de Aquino, in order to understand his conceptions, concerning reasoning and intellect, as well as to be aware of the role played by reasoning and intellect aspects in the medieval period. Thus, it is necessary to reflect upon the influence played by Church and by Christian philosophy on the constitution of medieval society. Within such a context, the relationship between reason-subjectivity in Aquino's thought is emphasized. Thus, based on both, the theoretical contributions by Deleuze and Guattari (1996), and on the conceptualizations about the significance of intellect in the human constitution, it is made a brief conceptualization about subjectivity. Tomás de Aquino conceives the human reasoning as the subject's power for acting when in search for knowledge, a fact that makes possible a counterpoint with the concept of instrumental reasoning, established by Adorno and Horkheimer (1985), whose peculiarity or singularization is understood as a possibility for developing the intellectual power of human being, as well as a possibility of constituting more conscious subjectivities in contemporary society. This paper will describe the activities developed during the "Track and Field for children and teenagers" program, which is part of the extra-activities for the community developed in the State University of São Paulo, located in the city of Rio Claro. This project has been going on since 1999, and in 2006, apart of the weekly classes some visits to the campus track happened. The weekly classes of this project were aimed at students from 10 to 16 years old, and they were based on pre-sportive games that involved basic motor skills such as running, jumping, flinging and throwing. The visits were aimed at students from the community schools, and the purpose was to show them the official area and materials of Track and Field, as well as to advertise among them the project itself. This way, the visits gathered a large number of participants, including the children, the teenagers and also Physical Education under graduate students, who were also able to get in contact with the Track and Field, which is a very neglected sport in the Physical Education classes in the Brazilian schools. As a result, this project is certainly something crucial for the development and education of the children belonging to the Rio Claro community. For this reason, the project might have permanence during the following years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

NURSING education , *EDUCATION , *BIOMEDICAL technicians , *TEACHER training , *TRAINING - Abstract
This study has the objective to reflect on nursing education in medium level in times of changes in the education and in the modern society. The education of nursing in this level has been one of that it faces greater in recent years difficulty in relation its conception, structure and organization. In spite of the great number of schools of medium education of nursing in the country, researches about these professionals, their formation needs and job market are still scarce. Many teachers that act in this area, they don't attend courses of pedagogic training or master degree in the education to they begin their activities in the teaching. Like this, their educational practices still follow traditional models, taking the formation of professionals with characteristics of the biomedical-technicist model. When review historically the moments of the nursing education, it is really observed great periods that suffered influences of the traditional approach and technicist. However, with passing of the years, these paradigms demonstrate not to correspond to the current necessities, demanding reflections and debates on the problem, where the teacher has been fundamental paper in the search of a teaching-learning process based on freedom and necessary abilities to the current context. INSTRUCTIONAL systems design , *CHILDREN'S literature , *CURRICULUM planning , *ARTISTIC creation , *PERFORMANCE standards - Abstract
Design, as a field with inter-disciplinary vocation, appraises both the existence of knowledge formative units and the assessment of different performance areas. From this perspective, before executing job interventions, a designer should undertake a responsibility higher than merely knowing his specific instruction guidelines, i.e., observe, get acquainted to, and participate of knowledge fields which may be different from his own. However, sometimes market's structure turns a consistent intervention unattainable, i.e., an intervention grounded both on his instruction specific guidelines and on the field's reality, for which his performance is being needed. At other moments, the designer has a limited knowledge of the field in which he will perform the intervention, and this may cause the intervention to be impossible and/or contribute to generate social prejudice. This paper aims to discuss the designer performance in the educational field, analysing its contribution to the development of didactic and para-didactic material related to reading. We emphasize the double role of the designer's skills and information which, sometimes due to an impossibility otherwise to unawareness, may lead him to the generation of social prejudice and to the lack of informative content.
