In alignment with the theme of the conference "Education in Developing, Emerging, and Developed Countries: Different Worlds, Common Challenges," this paper brings attention to the challenges associated with the implementation of sustainable research capacity building (SRCB) in the context of BRICS nations and African countries. Employing a comparative document analysis method to explore the unique contexts of developing nations, this research provides insights and recommendations to strengthen research capacity in academia, address shared challenges and promote national prosperity. The scholarly literature revealed that higher education institutions (HEIs) in developing countries have intensified their efforts in building the research capacity of their academics and institutions. Regardless of their commitment, HEIs face challenges such as gender inequalities, teaching workloads, doctoral program deficiencies, lack of multidisciplinary research approaches and funding constraints. Addressing the challenges will require improved funding for research training and research productivity. One of the main concerns is that instead of advancing knowledge and being producers thereof, most developing countries remain knowledge consumers. The findings revealed that developing the next generation of academics plays a critical role in the sustainability of an emerging country's research system. With a present sense of urgency in taking actions towards sustainable development and the 17 goals, it is necessary to create functional partnerships in society. This study will discuss the university-industry collaboration (UIC), which we suggest needs new prerequisites. The innovation management problem we address is: How can UIC be organized to support transformative innovation? This paper will focus on understanding the expectations of different organizations of collaboration, new forms of working together, and incentives to support this transition. Data comes from two parallel surveys, based on the UIC framework from Ankrah & Tabbaa (2015). Tentative results show that expectations are of importance but vary, with industry waiting for academia to both address and progress with the SDGs while academia suggests industry to be leading the development. Designers must be equipped with methods to contribute to sustainability transitions. Scenario planning arose as approach to integrate future uncertainties while the low-tech concept promotes technological discernment. This paper looks at how low-tech fuelled scenario planning. Analysing institutional and archetypical scenarios shows a partial integration through high and low-tech extremes. However, more nuanced considerations are lacking. Sustainable tourism and local economic development as a mechanism for religious pilgrimages in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). This is particularly pertinent for religious pilgrimages in KZN province which boosts historical landmarks and pilgrimage destinations. Pilgrimage tourism and several other forms of tourism related to it have significant affinities to the tenets of sustainable development. The purpose of this paper is to examine the complications that could arise from religious pilgrimages' potential as a form of travel that, once implemented, would be beneficial for sustainable tourism and local economic development (LED). This paper further intends to assess the pilgrimage destinations to be viewed as a mechanism for local economic development. A quantitative research design was employed, as the nature of this research necessitates the use of numerical data and descriptive statistics to draw conclusions. A standardised questionnaire was used to collect data from 410 respondents selected using a convenience sampling technique from different pilgrimage destinations in KZN, South Africa. Descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate analyses were conducted using IBM's SPSS version 28 sotiware. The pilgrims and local communities' perceptions of socio-economic contribution indicate that the availability of tourism facilities might be perceived as a socio-economic contributor to pilgrimage destinations. The findings further reveal that African religious pilgrimages can be sustainable and be a local economic development catalyst in KwaZulu-Natal. The study recommends that the South African National Christian Forum (SANCF), in collaboration with the South African government (national and provincial), develop an operational plan to provide business education, entrepreneurial skills, and relevant support to local communities surrounding religious pilgrimages or religious destinations, to empower them to contribute to the development of the local economy. This paper investigates the role of Large-scale Urban Projects (LUPs) in urban management. Specifically, it analyses their capacity to incorporate or generate innovative mechanisms, particularly new governance arrangements, and their wider implications for equity and social inclusion. It is assumed that the outcomes of LUPs are influenced by distinct institutional logics, which provide incongruous scripts and shape the actions of the different stakeholders involved in such interventions. To better understand the correlation between these sets of shared norms, rules, and values (Friedland and Alford, 1991) and the results of LUPs, this research employs the Institutional Logics Approach and qualitative techniques such as literature and document analysis. Moreover, ideal types of institutional logics (Thornton, Jones and Kury, 2005; Reay and Jones, 2016) and the sequencing of historical events (Thornton, Jones and Kury, 2005) are used as analytical-methodological instruments. The research aims to deepen the understanding of the role played by LUPs in the process of economic value production, which influences the social fabric of cities, affecting equity and inclusion and by extent their sustainable development. A new multi-award-winning development of high-rise living quarters for firefighters in Hong Kong, China has been successfully delivered using modular construction. Created from 3726 factory-made concrete modules, it is the first high-rise concrete building development in the region to adopt the 'modular integrated construction' method. This paper describes the modular construction process, the NEC-based procurement approach and the innovative technologies used in the development's design and construction, all of which contributed to a highly efficient and sustainable solution. The non-traditional influences of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) are increasingly gaining attention in international business studies; however, the empirical evidence of these influences is still scant. Using human capital theory within the context of the national competitive framework, the study reported in this paper considers the progress towards achieving Quality education as a likely influence of FDI inflows in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The paper employs a panel data research design and conducts fixed effects estimations. The analysis categorizes FDI flows into global FDI, FDI from developed countries, and FDI from developing countries to SSA. Thus, the paper is centred around three research questions: (1) How does progress toward quality education influence global FDI inflows? (2) How does progress towards quality education influence FDI inflows from developed and (3) from developing countries? The analysis mainly utilizes a bespoke dataset from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and data from trustworthy databases such as UNCTADSTAT and the World Development Indicators (WDI). The results support the claim of the increasing importance of non-traditional influences of FDI flow. Quality Education significantly influenced FDI inflows from the globe and developing countries to SSA. This research provides further evidence that the national competitive framework can thoroughly explain the factors that have different significant powers in influencing FDI flows to SSA from developed and developing countries. The study is highly policy-relevant because it examines the effects of the degree of attainment of specific UN Sustainable Development Goals (quality education) on inward FDI performance. Wine tourism has become a major driver of sustainable rural development, promoting economic growth, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting environmental protection in wine-growing regions worldwide. The essence of sustainable development is to enable the satisfaction of current needs that will not prevent future generations from satisfying their needs. The development of mass tourism has threatened its sustainability. Therefore tourism must evolve and develop in accordance with the generally accepted principles of sustainable development. There is an increasingly pronounced necessity for the preservation of natural resources, but also for such tourism development that will not jeopardize authenticity and neglect local culture and customs of destinations. The profile of the modern tourist supports the above because in economically developed countries there is a tendency of demand growth for authentic destinations that nurture local culture and customs. The area of Fruška Gora has great potential for the development of rural tourism, which has only been partially utilized. Wine and religious tourism in the area of Fruška Gora can be seen as the special forms of rural tourism, which, together with agrotourism, can form an authentic integrated tourist product of this area. Adequate promotion and sale of this product could contribute to an increase in the income of stakeholders. The aim of the paper is to present the potential integrated tourism product of Fruška Gora, as well as current incentives that can contribute to its economic sustainability. The research uses the methods of analysis, synthesis, desk research, as well as the descriptive method. The authors conclude that the proposed integrated tourism product, with adequate marketing activities, can contribute to the local sustainable economic development in the area of Fruška Gora, as well as to the reduction of the depopulation in these areas. The subject of research in this paper is the application of the hybrid model railways and forests of health (RFH) as a new healthcare and tourism offering by Serbia. The model is a combination of the Finnish health forests project and the U.S.A. project from railways to trails for recreation. The goal of the paper is to prove the initial hypothesis according to which this hybrid model could be successfully applied as a new attractive element of the healthcare and tourism offerings. Comparative method, case study method, and document content analysis method were used in the work. The research results showed that the RFH model is suitable to support development of healthcare tourism in Serbia: first, to activate unused resources; then, to contribute to the preservation of the environment, that is, to add to the sustainable development; finally, to prevent chronical diseases in the population and contribute to the rehabilitation of those already ill. Sustainable development represents a future based on long-term goals that respect economic, social, environmental and cultural values. The aim of this paper is to present the basic characteristics of tourism in the destination of the town of Šabac and to show the current connection with sustainable development and goals for the future. The main research question is: Does the city of Šabac as a tourist destination meet the conditions of sustainability in tourism? The research was conducted with the idea of analyzing how respondents see the city of Šabac in terms of sustainability (survey of 14 questions, answered by 200 respondents). We conclude that, although sustainable tourism is at the beginning of its activity, the city of Šabac is a complete tourist destination, based on the Tourism Development Program of the City of Šabac 2020-2025 through a modern concept of development that strives for ecological, social and economic sustainability. In the contemporary business landscape, environmental considerations play a crucial role in shaping corporate strategies. Governments worldwide are actively addressing environmental issues, and the pursuit of environmentally sustainable development has emerged as a pivotal concern for businesses. Consequently, firms are increasingly turning to Green Marketing as a strategic approach to align with these environmental objectives. Green Marketing involves promoting and selling products or services based on their environmental benefits. Such offerings are either inherently eco-friendly or produced using environmentally conscious methods. Ammonia, recognized as a promising clean energy source, plays a significant role in advancing sustainable development. This paper detailly investigates the multifaceted aspects of ammonia, encompassing its background, synthesis methods, storage, transportation, and diverse applications. A comparative analysis is presented, contrasting the conventional Haber process of ammonia synthesis with innovative methods utilizing clean energy. The green ammonia synthesis process, currently gaining prominence, is highlighted for its potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions. The efficacy of various catalysts in green ammonia synthesis is also examined, revealing the superiority of low-displacement catalysts. Furthermore, the paper explores ammonia's extensive applications in the energy sector, from its role in fuel cells, which can be supplied directly or post-catalytic decomposition, to its utility as engine fuel, either in pure form or in combination with other fuels. The study also underscores ammonia's potential as an auxiliary hydrogen carrier, enhancing the safety and efficiency of hydrogen storage and transportation. Education for Sustainable Development requires raising individuals' awareness of problems relevant to the environment. We designed a Generative Toolkit that supports industrial design students carrying out a Speculative Design task and through this process initiates greater problem awareness of low metal recycling rates. In this paper we give insights into the Toolkit's theoretical derivation and the design process. By studying 9 sustainable entrepreneurial businesses, this paper looked at how entrepreneurial firms used their business to intervene at deep leverage points to facilitate systems change. The paper presents a novel approach to visualize the impacts of design heuristics in sustainable product development. Focusing on the integration of ecological sustainability, our research introduces a multivariate visual approach, combining Sunburst Charts and Radial Heat Maps. Sustainability is influencing the automotive industry. Car manufacturers are increasingly prioritizing sustainable materials. The production of these still pose environmental challenges. This paper addresses the trends related to sustainable car interiors. It emphasizes the importance of understanding how customers perceive these new materials. Seven in-depth interviews were conducted, followed by a survey with 106 participants to obtain generalized insights. Lignin, a paper and pulp industry waste product, has attracted significant attention in recent years as a promising sustainable material for high-end energy applications. Herein, we examine lignin as a potential material for ionic thermoelectric hydrogels and carbon-based materials. Optimized lignin-derived hydrogels demonstrate a remarkable Seebeck coefficient of 3.63 mV/K when subjected to an axial temperature gradient. Furthermore, synthesized lignin-based porous carbon materials exhibit exceptional performance as supercapacitor electrodes, with a superior specific capacitance of 56.3 F/g at 0.5 A/g. Lignin-based hydrogels and porous carbon electrodes offer a promising path towards the development of lignin-derived ionic thermoelectric supercapacitors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Entrepreneurial intention, as the preliminary idea of pursuing new ventures. Entrepreneurship is an important component to enhance the country's economic growth and sustainability as well as to meet the challenges of globalisation, such as increasing the unemployment rate among students. The objectives of this paper are to determine the relationship between personality, government support and entrepreneurship education with entrepreneurial intention among business students from selected public university in Malaysia and to measure the predictor of entrepreneurial intention. This study is quantitative in the form and questionnaires distributed to collect information from respondents based on the size of 100 samples and use convenience sampling method. The data obtained through questionnaires is analyzed and evaluated by correlation and regression testing. The results showed that all moderate linkages with entrepreneurial intentions. Government support also show the the most impact on the entrepreneurial intention. This paper provides a comprehensive framework that contributes to conceptualization and assists the Government and academic in enhancing skills and courses to increase the desire of business students to become future successful entrepreneurs. The use of recycled concrete aggregate has positive environmental and economic contributions to the sustainability of the materials. However, when recycled aggregate (RA) is used instead of natural aggregate, the mechanical and structural performance of concrete are negatively influenced. Therefore, the development of practical techniques that reduce these negative influences are very important. Due to the confinement effect, the mechanical behaviors of the RA can be improved by encasing it in a circular steel tube. This paper describes a series of comparison tests on steel tubular columns of circular sections filled with normal self-compacting concrete and recycled aggregate self-compacting concrete. Ten specimens consist of 5 recycled aggregate concrete filled double skin steel tubular (RACFDST) columns and 5 normal concrete filled double skin steel tubular (CFDST) columns divided into three groups according to the type of load were tested under (axial, uniaxial, and biaxial) compression loads. Loading eccentricity and full replacement of natural coarse aggregate with recycled coarse aggregate were the main parameters in this study. Overall, the failure mode, ultimate capacities, and general deformational behavior have been presented in this paper. The results clearly showed that the failure mode of the RACFDST columns is generally similar to their normal CFDST counterparts with a slight reduction in ultimate bearing capacity. Specimens under axial compression were subjected to local buckling failure, while the global buckling failure was the mode of all eccentrically loaded columns. As expected, due to the confinement effect of the steel tubes, the strength of the sandwich concrete was enhanced, and all tested columns exhibited ductile failure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The need for renewable energy is highly increasing worldwide to fulfil energy demand as well as reduce the impact of global warming. Indonesia as the most extensive archipelago face real challenge to power its remote areas with green electricity. This paper assesses economically the idea of hybrid power plant of solar and/or biomass to electrify Indonesian remote areas with green electricity. Furthermore, the carbon credit as an additional income of this project is estimated using CDM methodology. The project is proposed in Sakti, Batukandik, and Batumadeg villages in Nusa Penida Island, Bali; the ER are 7460.57, 2587.10, and 9044.84 tCO2e/year, accordingly. The IRR is analyzed under two scenarios: the initial electricity cost of USD 0.15/kWh and the reduced cost of USD 0.10/kWh including carbon credits and biochar sales. The sensitivity analysis is conducted to observe the effect of most tentative variables towards the IRR. Furthermore, determining the feasibility of this project by analyzing the ERR is assessed to be important, whether it is profitable for the community or not. For the ERR analysis, there are two results calculations. The ERR value with the application of carbon credits shows 32.66%. In comparison, the ERR value without the application of carbon credits shows 28.19%. These values are obtained from several parameter calculations in the ERR analysis in this study. It consists of a consumer surplus, which is computed from the benefits obtained by PLN. Then, the producer surplus and job increases are computed from the benefits obtained by the community if this project is executed. Many initiatives to control climate change and mitigate its effects have been developed recently. The implementation of the new green logistics strategy and its effects on the commercial sectors in Oman are the subject of several initiatives and studies that are required. The fact that COVID-19 accelerates supply chain management and its operations in Oman to begin using green solutions and a sustainable business strategy to achieve sustainable development, it is critical to understand which aspects deserve specific consideration. Sustainable solutions in the field of logistics management as well as maintaining net zero emissions in the Sultanate of Oman by implementing such a strategy. Maintaining a sustainable business model and sustainable supply chain management will assist any logistics organization in Oman in reducing emissions and achieving long-term success, which directly impacts green logistics. This paper's main objectives are to examine and identify strategies for implementing the influence of green logistics on transportation and how to keep green logistics aligned with a sustainable transportation system. This research also focuses on sustainable business models that will enhance logistics in support of zero net emissions as well as sustainable solutions that will facilitate the implementation of green logistics. The implementation of green building is believed to be a key factor in achieving sustainable development in the building sector. The Green Building Council Indonesia is responsible for the development and deployment of green buildings in Indonesia, and has released version 1.2 of the Greenship rating tools for evaluating new green buildings. The use of renewable energy sources in green buildings is highly encouraged, with one point awarded for every 0.5% of energy usage covered by renewable energy, up to a maximum of five points. The installation of rooftop PV systems is a popular choice for renewable energy in many governmental green-rated buildings, but it is important to determine the ideal capacity to prevent overpriced installation costs. This paper proposes a method where the focus is on gaining maximum points in renewable energy and minimizing investment costs, rather than maximizing installed capacity. This approach can reduce capacity by up to 68%. Another important consideration is choosing the optimum grid connectivity type, and the paper discusses the options of on-grid or zero export schemes. This paper presents the case study of Zlatibor as a successful green tourist destination. Thanks to the private initiative of small households, this Serbian mountain has become attractive for domestic and foreign visitors enjoying traditional food and craft products. Moreover, in 2019, policy makers of the Republic of Serbia recognized the importance of Zlatibor for the development of sustainable tourism granting it the status of the climatic site, enabling government incentives for potential investors in the hotel industry. The hotel sector uses a lot of resources which affects the increase in business costs, but also the pollution of the natural environment. Construction industry as one of the sectors that causes climate change must start paying attention to environmental impacts. Through the provision of numerous ecosystem services, Green infrastructure (GI) is one of the essential strategies for achieving sustainable development since it can effectively coordinate social, economic, and environmental growth. Thus, GI has been highlighted as a promising strategy to aid cities in adapting to climate change. 197 papers published between 2016 and 2021 were organized and classified using the 7th version of Publish or Perish software as part of this study's literature review methodology. Results show that there has been a significant growth in research on green infrastructure in recent years, with Sustainability Journal dominating the field. The initial top three cited journals that cover GI research are China Earth Sciences, Construction & Building Materials, and Cities. Another set of findings reveals that issues with water, materials, heat, air pollution, and policies-regulation & cost have been particularly focused on. Future research is needed and quite promising, such as: green materials, solutions to water & flood problems, urban heat, and GI regulation are topics that need further research, especially in Indonesia. This paper describes the development of a blended-based sustainable training model. The blended learning model is used to overcome participants' limited time constraints in ongoing training to increase the competency of tourism village community empowerment facilitators. The research method used is development research. The research subjects were community empowerment facilitators in tourist villages, DKI Jakarta, and West Java. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and literature review. Data analysis in this research was carried out using qualitative descriptions. The study results show that conceptually implementing a blended learning-based continuous training model increases facilitators' competence in empowering the Tourism Village community through the stages of input, process, and output analysis. In the input component, the training manager maps the competency of the facilitator's objective conditions; the training process component uses an andragogy approach where participants have self-concept practical experience and can overcome the problems they face; and the output component produces tourism village facilitators who master three competency elements, namely basic, core and special. Despite its importance, the understanding of the behavioural mechanisms underlying rebound effects triggered by sustainable design is still limited. Through a systematic literature review, this study analyses and discusses 18 behavioural mechanisms. The key gaps of behavioural research on rebound effects are (1) limited in-depth analysis of different mechanisms (2); lack of clearly defined concepts; and (3) neglect of various research topics. In the present scenario, with the rise in the transportation sector, there is a requirement for a sustainable approach to reducing greenhouse gas as well as fossil carbon emissions that will mitigate several environmental problems associated with the utilization of fossil-based fuels. The demand for a sustainable approach to waste management has led to the development of renewable biofuels as an alternative to fossil fuels. Waste management is a critical point in addressing waste generation issues, and in the meantime, biomass valorization is one of the critical aspects in the context of a circular bioeconomy. Biomass is considered the best alternative source for bioenergy production through the application of biorefinery that can generate varied bio-products from a single source in a short processing time. The effective execution of the waste-to-energy core principle will result in a zero-waste discharge plan, which is a crucial step toward the long-term development of bioenergy. A lot of electrical and mechanical energy is wasted in the public toilets of government and private institutes, universities, and offices, in which exhaust fans run continuously during the daytime, throughout the year in India. Not only, a huge cost is involved just to exhaust foul air, but also, put on adverse effects on the environment. This event creates an undue burden on ecology and the economy. This study uncovers a solution to this research gap in the paper "Solar-assisted eco-innovation induces eco-ventilation." The system is an eco-friendly technology in which the eco-innovation system of heliostats focuses solar radiation on a hollow hot air bulb, creating a pressure difference to ensure air exchange, remove foul air, and enhance ventilation. At the present time, most researchers have tended to achieve the principle of sustainability in terms of cost reduction in addition to reducing and limiting environmental problems and preserving natural resources through the use of some modified materials and materials that achieve all of the above. Therefore, this research paper aims to study the effect of addition of both ordinary Portland cement and waste (natural marble powder) on the performance of cold mix asphalt (CMA) instead of limestone powder (LD) as a filler. Those CMA mixtures were improved through two stages: the first stage of development included the use of OPC as filler instead of the traditional mineral filler, and in three doses i.e., 2, 4, and 6 % of the total weight of the aggregate. While the second stage of development included the use of Natural Marble Dust (NMD) with 2% OPC with three percentages i.e., 2, 4, 6 % of the total aggregate weight to indicate, the optimum proportions to be compared with the OPC which was used alone and reference filler. All samples were subjected to indirect tensile strength test at a temperature of 25ͼC for four treatment periods i.e., 1, 3, 7, and 30 days. The samples were also tested to indicate ITS at a treatment period of 7 days with different temperatures i.e., 25, 40, and60 ͼC as well. A Marshall test was also performed to indicate the stability for the produced mixtures. The results showed that the use of 6% of OPC contributed to improving the mechanical properties of the mixture and increasing its strength compared to the percentages of 2 and 4% of using OPC as well as when using LD in all tests. In addition, the best results for the ITS test were achieved at the lowest temperature of 25ͼC. The use of NMD waste improved the strength of the mixture in all tests significantly and distinctly compared to the use (2, 4) % of OPC and as well as when used LD. Where the current study found the possibility of adopting using of (2% OPC plus 4% NMD) as optimal filler ratios used to improve the properties of CMA in order to achieve best mixture by means of mechanical properties and sustainability as well as economic. The lack of green construction in Indian cities is a significant worry, thus this study is the result of a proleptical interest to explore and comprehend the limitations in growth of green architecture. Green demand and investment in the construction sector are meant to leave a beneficial environmental impact. Nevertheless, these environmental potentials have not been fully tapped into and investigated in the Indian context, reportedly due to a lack of knowledge of the driving factors and advantages resulting from demand for and investment in green buildings. Researchers have not properly looked into the financial implications of architects' and planners' roles in the construction of green buildings. In light of this context, this paper addresses the issues included whether the gap could be experimentally proven, and if so, how it may be explained and how architects and planners might close it. One of the significant reasons for dam vibrations and hydropower plants is the operation of powerhouses. This research reviewed a wide range of studies on powerhouses, the vibration of the turbine, and dams, focusing on the vibration of the all-power house unit. Also, this paper included some types of the dam (e.g., concrete and earth dams), analyses of the powerhouse, vibrations of the turbine, vibration transition, and the relationship between dam and operation and sustainability of hydropower plant. In addition, it covers the current research on the fluid mechanism in hydropower turbine units to enhance vibration control. As a result, failures, and risks may be best managed and alleviated, reducing the costs of hydropower station running while also increasing economic sustainability.
