Introduction: Previous research has shown that lower lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) concentrations in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are associated with longer prodromal symptoms in first-episode psychosis (FEP). We aimed to study whether there is a relationship between the duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) and LDH and other CSF biomarkers in FEP and whether stressful life events moderate this association. Methods: Ninety-five inpatients with FEP and with less than 6 weeks of antipsychotic treatment were included in the study. All participants were informed about the nature of the study, which was approved by the local ethics committee, and signed an informed consent form. A lumbar puncture was performed at index admission (baseline) to measure CSF parameters (glucose, total protein, LDH). The DUP was assessed with the Quick Psychosis Onset and Prodromal Symptoms Inventory (Q-POPSI). Stressful life events (SLEs) in the previous 6 months were assessed with the List of Threatening Experiences. We dichotomized the SLE variable into having experienced at least one SLE or no experience of SLEs. Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS v. 25.0. Total protein and LDH concentrations were natural log transformed (ln) to reduce skewness. Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to explore the association between the DUP and CSF parameters (considered the dependent variable). Age, sex, DUP and SLEs were considered independent variables. We tested the DUP by SLE interaction. Significant interactions were included in the final model. The threshold for significance was set at p<0.05. Results: Fifty-four FEP patients (56.8%) reported an SLE in the previous 6 months. There were no significant differences in the DUP between patients with or without SLEs. There were no significant differences in CSF biomarkers between the SLE groups. In the multiple linear regression analyses, we found a significant DUP by SLE interaction effect on CSF LDH concentrations (standardized beta= -0.320, t= -2.084, p= 0.040). In patients with SLEs, a shorter DUP was associated with higher CSF LDH concentrations and vice versa. No significant associations were found between the DUP or SLEs and other CSF biomarkers (glucose, total proteins). Conclusions: Our study suggests that psychosocial stress moderates the relationship between the onset of psychosis and CSF biomarkers related to bioenergetic systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a fast sphere-tree generation method used for collision detection called Branch On-collide Sphere-trees is proposed. Using the video card graphic processing unit (GPU), a sphere-tree is constructed in real-time inside an animation. With this method, the core memory usage is minimized because no pre-computed data is loaded at any time during simulation life cycle. With our method, real-time conservative collision detection is achieved using the GPU, core memory is managed efficiently and the error is lowered using fast-construction sphere-tree structures.

Collision detection between several objects in a closed space is an interesting research topic in all those areas where objects must not penetrate one another, such as Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Virtual Reality. In this paper, we review data structures that are useful for collision detection and several methods that treat the collision problem. The paper is focused on collision detection in complex systems with a large number of objects and specially centered in the first step algorithm (the broad stage) where relevant regions for collision are detected.

- Abstract
In this paper, a novel sphere-tree generation method used for collision detection is proposed. Using existing consumer-level graphics cards and its programmable graphics processing units (GPU) a sphere-tree is constructed in real-time inside an animation. This guarantees that no construction or loading of a precomputated hierarchy is required. With our method, core memory is managed in an efficient manner, allocating and releasing memory space as necessary. By this, out-of-core techniques can perform better in real-time situations. The animation tests maintain an above the average performance and the collision detection is fast and efficient., Postprint (published version)

- Abstract
In this paper two improvements to speed up collision detection are described. Firstly, a method called oncollide sphere-tree, OCST for short, is presented. This approach works by detecting collisions among models with arbitrary geometry using the video card’s Graphics Processing Units, GPU. While candidate parts of colliding objects are being detected, the OCST is constructed for collision evaluation in parallel, at the same time. Thus, the OCST is created in real–time. Secondly, we have tested two kinds of triangulated representation models for the same original–objects. We have evaluated triangle–soup and triangle–strip models to speed up the algorithm response when computing collisions. The method has been described, implemented and tested for the two kinds of triangulated models, and the obtained results are shown., Postprint (published version)

- Abstract
The location of an object or parts of an object in huge environments is of fundamental importance in several research areas. The problem to locate an object or parts of an object in very complex systems (environments with large number of objects) has been studied by several authors, contributing with a large number of solutions based on different hierarchical representations of the scenes. In this research report, an implementation of a Multiresolution K dimensional tree (Multiresolution Kdtree, MKtree) and its results are presented. A MKtree represents a hierarchical subdivision of the scene objects, that guarantees a minimum space overlap between node regions in large environments. The implementation is related to ship design applications where the number and distribution of objects are considered complex. This will serve for later inclusion of methods to better approximate objects with tighter bounding volumes., Postprint (published version)

K dimensional tree data structure(Multiresolution Kdtree, MKtree) is introduced. In a complex scene containing a high number of individual objects, the MKtree represents a hierarchical subdivision of the scene objects that guarantees a small space overlap between node regions. The proposed MKtree data structure succeeds in performing simultaneously space and scene subdivision. MKtrees are useful for broad phase collision and proximity detection tests and for time-critical rendering in large environments requiring external memory storage. The paper proposes an efficient broad phase collision prediction algorithm. Examples in ship design applications are presented and discussed., Postprint (published version)

In a complex scene containing a high number of individual objects, the MKtree represents a hierarchical subdivision of the scene objects that guarantees a small space overlap between node regions. The proposed MKtree data structure succeeds in performing simultaneosly space and scene subdivision. MKtrees are useful for {it broad phase} collision and proximity detection tests and for time--critical rendering in large environments requiring external memory storage. Examples in ship design applications are presented and discussed.

The animation tests maintain an above the average performance and the collision detection is fast and efficient.

In this paper, the collision prediction between polyhedra under screw motions and a static scene using a new $ dimensional tree data structure ({emph Multiresolution Kdtree, MKtree}) is introduced. In a complex scene containing a high number of individual objects, the MKtree represents a hierarchical subdivision of the scene objects that guarantees a small space overlap between node regions. The proposed MKtree data structure succeeds in performing simultaneously space and scene subdivision. MKtrees are useful for {it broad phase} collision and proximity detection tests and for time--critical rendering in large environments requiring external memory storage. The paper proposes an efficient broad phase collision prediction algorithm. Examples in ship design applications are presented and discussed.

Reconstructing 3D models from their projection images has been an interesting research topic in computer vision and geometric modeling. In this paper, we review methods that generate octree models of objects from their silhouettes in images. The complexity analysis of the algorithms is developed and presented. It is concluded that the performance of the algorithms depends mostly on the number of starting images and the object shapes through their number of faces and concavities.

Collision detection between several objects in a closed space is an interesting research topic in all those areas where objects must not penetrate one another, such as Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Virtual Reality. In this paper, we describe a new data structure design that is useful for collision detection in the environment of ship design applications and several algorithms that solve the collision problem in such environment. The paper is focused on collision detection in complex systems with a large number of objects.
