The Einstein equations for an isotropic and homogeneous Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe in the presence of a quintessence scalar field are shown to be described in a compact way, formally identical to the dynamics of a relativistic particle moving on a two-dimensional spacetime. The correct Lagrangian for the system is presented and used to construct a spinor quantum cosmology theory using Breit's prescription. The theory is supersymmetric when written in the Majorana representation. The spinor field components interact through a potential that correlates the spacetime metric and the quintessence. The characterization of quantum polarization of light requires knowledge of all th3 moments of the Stokes variables, which are appropriately encoded in the multipole expansion of the density matrix. We look into the cumulative distribution of those multipoles and work out the corresponding extremal pure states. We find that SU(2) coherent states are maximal to any order whereas the converse case of minimal states (which can be seen as ihe most quantum ones) is investigated for a diverse range of the number of photons. We show that new physics can show up in dileptonic events through its radiative contributions to the dilepton invariant mass, leading to unique "monocline" features in mll, as well as the angular distribution of the leptons. We focus in particular on the case of dark matter with scalar messengers coupling it to the quarks and leptons. Consistent thermal models require the dark matter to have masses of 100s of GeV and have ≳1 couplings to the Standard Model (SM), implying that radiative corrections to the SM Drell-Yan rate can be sizable. We consider the case of Majorana, Dirac, and pseudo-Dirac dark matter and show that there are regions of parameter space where the nonexistence of a monocline, which starts at roughly twice the dark matter mass, mll~2mz, places the strongest constraint on the model. We make predictions for the sensitivities at the high luminosity 14 TeV LHC as well as a future 100 TeV proton-proton collider. We find that our dilepton signal is most sensitive when the mediator and the dark matter are nearly degenerate and conventional missing-transverse-momentum-based searches are least sensitive. We investigate the possibility of detecting Majorana neutrinos at the Large Hadron-electron Collider, an electron-proton collision mode at CERN. We study the lj+ + 3jets (ij = e,μ, τ) final states that are, due to leptonic number violation, a clear signature for intermediate Majorana neutrino contributions. Such signals are not possible if the heavy neutrinos have Dirac nature. The interactions between Majorana neutrinos and the Standard Model particles are obtained from an effective Lagrangian approach. We present our results for the total cross section as a function of the neutrino mass, the effective couplings, and the new physics scale. We also show the discovery region as a function of the Majorana neutrino mass and the effective couplings. Our results show that the Large Hadron-electron Collider may be able to discover Majorana neutrinos with masses lower than 700 and 1300 GeV for electron beams settings of Ee = 50 GeV and Ee = 150 GeV, respectively. In the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) the lightest superpartner of the left-handed neutrinos is ruled out as a candidate for dark matter because of its large elastic cross section with the nucleus mediated via the Z boson. We resurrect this candidate by extending the MSSM with two triplets with opposite hypercharge. The addition of the triplets not only plays the role of generating small Majorana masses for the left-handed active neutrinos, but it also makes the lightest sneutrino a viable candidate for dark matter. We then discuss the relevant parameter space that can give rise to the right amount of (thermal) relic abundance as well as satisfy the current direct-detection constraints from XENON100 and LUX. In this paper, we present a hybrid scheme for topological quantum computation in a system of cold atoms trapped in an atomic lattice. A topological qubit subspace is defined using Majorana fermions which emerge in a network of atomic Kitaev one-dimensional wires. We show how braiding can be efficiently implemented in this setup and propose a direct way to demonstrate the non-Abelian nature of Majorana fermions via a single-parity measurement. We then introduce a proposal for the efficient, robust, and reversible mapping of the topological qubits to a conventional qubit stored in a single atom. There, well-controlled standard techniques can be used to implement the missing gates required for universal computation. The Chern number v, as a topological invariant that identifies the winding of the ground state in the particle-hole space, is a definitive theoretical signature that determines whether a given superconducting system can support Majorana zero modes. Here we show that such a winding can be faithfully identified for any superconducting system (p wave or s wave with spin-orbit coupling) through a set of time-of-flight measurements, making it a diagnostic tool also in actual cold-atom experiments. As an application, we customize the measurement scheme for a chiral topological model of spinless fermions. The proposed model only requires the experimentally accessible s-wave pairing and staggered tunneling that mimics spin-orbit coupling. By adiabatically connecting this model to Kitaev's honeycomb lattice model, we show that it gives rise to v = ±1 phases, where vortices bind Majorana fermions, and v = ±2 phases that emerge as the unique collective state of such vortices. Hence, the preparation of these phases and the detection of their Chern numbers provide an unambiguous signature for the presence of Majorana modes. Braiding of Majorana fermions gives accurate topological quantum operations that are intrinsically robust to noise and imperfection, providing a natural method to realize fault-tolerant quantum information processing. Unfortunately, it is known that braiding of Majorana fermions is not sufficient for the implementation of universal quantum computation. Here we show that topological manipulation of Majorana fermions provides the full set of operations required to generate random numbers by way of quantum mechanics and to certify its genuine randomness through violation of a multipartite Bell inequality. The result opens a perspective to apply Majorana fermions for the robust generation of certified random numbers, which has important applications in cryptography and other related areas. The atomic dipoles in the Rabi lattice model exhibit quantum Ising dynamics in the limit of strong atom-photon interaction. It governs the paraelectric to ferroelectric phase transition in the ground state. On an open chain, it implies the existence of two Majorana-like, albeit topologically unprotected, edge modes in the ordered phase. The relation pILx = p8 between the end-to-end dipole correlation pILx and the spontaneous polarization p is proposed as an observable signature of these edge modes. The density-matrix renormalization-group calculations on the one-dimensional Rabi lattice support the strong-coupling quantum Ising behavior and correctly yield the proposed end-to-end dipole correlation. An approach to developing a feasible neutrinoless double beta decay experiment capable of probing Majorana masses in the regime of the nondegenerate normal neutrino mass hierarchy is proposed. For such an experiment, this study suggests that 130Te is likely the best choice of candidate isotope and that metal-loaded liquid scintillator likely represents the best choice of detector technology. An evaluation of the required loading, scintillator properties and detector configuration is presented. While further development of Te-loaded liquid scintillator is required, recent progress in this area suggests that this task may not be insurmountable. This could open the door for a future experiment of unparalleled sensitivity that might be accommodated in a volume of the order of 10-20 kilotons. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a potentially practical experimental approach to exploring Majorana neutrino masses in the nondegenerate normal hierarchy has been suggested. We introduce the term Majoranon to describe particles that obey the Majorana equation, which are different from the Majorana fermions widely studied in various physical systems. A general procedure to simulate the corresponding Majoranon dynamics, based on a decomposition of the Majorana equation into two Dirac equations, is described in detail. It allows the simulation of the two-component chiral spinors, the building blocks of modern gauge theories, in the laboratory with current technology. Specifically, a Majoranon in one spatial dimension can be simulated with a single qubit plus a continuous degree of freedom, for example, a single trapped ion. Interestingly, the dynamics of a Majoranon deviates most clearly from that of a Dirac particle in the rest frame, in which the continuous variable is redundant, making a possible laboratory implementation feasible with existing setups. We argue that ΔL = 2 neutrino spin flavor precession, induced by the primordial magnetic fields, could have a significant impact on the leptogenesis process that accounts for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. Although the extragalactic magnetic field is extremely weak at the present time (about 10-9 Gauss), the primordial magnetic field at the electroweak scale could be quite strong (of order 1017Gauss).Therefore, at this scale, the effects of the spin flavor precession are not negligible. We show that the lepton asymmetry may be reduced by 50% due to the spin flavor precession. In addition, the leptogenesis will have different features from the standard scenario of leptogenesis, where the lepton asymmetry continues to oscillate even after the electroweak phase transition. We study the four-body T± → vTl±/±X∓ decays where l = e or μ and X = π,K, ρ, and K* mesons. These decay processes violate the total lepton number (|ΔL| =2) and can be induced by the exchange of Majorana neutrinos. We consider a scenario where these decays are dominated by the exchange of only one heavy neutrino, which produces an enhancement of the decay amplitude via the resonant mechanism. Searches for these novel decay channels with branching fractions sensitivities of 0(1O-7) can provide constraints on the parameter space of the Majorana neutrinos, which are stronger than the ones obtained from ΔL = 2 decays of charged pseudoscalar mesons. We investigate the possibility of a fourth sequential generation in the lepton sector. Assuming neutrinos to be Majorana particles and starting from a recent--albeit weak--hint for a nonzero admixture of a fourth generation neutrino from fits to weak lepton and meson decays, we discuss constraints from neutrinoless double beta decay, radiative lepton decay, and like-sign dilepton production at hadron colliders. Also, an idea for fourth generation neutrino mass model building is briefly outlined. Here we soften the large hierarchy of the neutrino masses within an extradimensional model that locates each generation on different lepton number violating branes without large hierarchies.
