The 4th International Conference on Radiation Effects of Electronic Devices (ICREED) was held on May 26–29, 2021, in Xi’an, China. The conference was held in-person and well attended. Initial conditions such as the learner's L1, motivation or level of proficiency are crucial and systems self-organize over time. The author reflects on quality papers in multimedia processing which were submitted during the 2nd International Conference on Image and Signal Processing (CISP) held in Tianjin, China on October 17-19, 2009. The author states that 30 countries and regions participated in the conference and out of 1,092 papers, 30 were selected. The article reports that the Eighth World Print and Communication Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, in late January was the biggest gathering of producers and users of printed media and products ever to take place on the African continent. WPC8 was the first event held by the merged Comprint International and the World Print Congress. WPC delegates represent major national and multinational printing organizations and suppliers that are interested in the long-term health and success of the industry globally. The conference attracts producers and users of printed media, as well as publishers, advertising agencies, printers, converters and suppliers. Organized by the Printing Industries Federation of South Africa and sponsored by coated fine paper producer Sappi, WPC8 drew almost 700 participants from all over the world, many of them from China, Japan and Africa. In 2001, the People's Republic of China created the foundation for investments of foreign businesses in the print and publishing sector. With the exception of packaging print, only joint ventures under Chinese management are allowed. With a volume share of roughly 48 percent, the packaging sector dominates the Chinese printing industry.

Since the reestablishment of relations between the United States and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1979, a number of contacts have taken place between the OR/MS communities of the two countries. Until 1981, these contacts were in the form of Chinese delegations attending international meetings (e.g., IFORS in Toronto). and joint TIMS/ORSA meetings or travel to the PRC by individual Management Scientists. An account of one such trip, by Leon Lasdon in December 1978, appeared in Interfaces in the February 1980 issue. Others who have visited the PRC include Martin Starr. George Dantzig, John D. C. Little, and Victor Klee. This is certainly not an exhaustive list: however, it does indicate the range of contacts that have been made. The next logical step for formalizing and extending these contacts is the holding of joint symposia and the undertaking of joint research projects.
