PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE AAS IN SAN DIEGO.

The article discusses the highlights of the 52nd annual meeting of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) held in San Diego, California, from March 9 to 12, 2000. Papers relating to the Ming period that were presented during the meeting included one on politics and intellectual networking in the late Ming capitals. Joanna Handlin Smith chaired a panel discussion on status, power and identity in 16th-century China, while Paul S. Ropp chaired a panel discussion on male discourses on female suicide in the late Imperial China.
