This article, which is part of the debate on Communication and Environment, analyses reasons for the scarce coverage, with a predominantly economic bias, on wind energy produced by the main potiguar newspaper Tribuna do Norte, between January 2003 and January 2004. This period was a milestone for media planning on the topic due to social, economic, and environmental expectations related to the opening of the first wind farm in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, currently the largest producer of this type of energy in Brazil. The State was moving towards production of sustainable energy, which is why we sought to understand the context in which the theme gained visibility due to its environmental relevance for the country. The methodological path chosen was based on Critical Discourse Analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 1989, 1995, 2001), represented by "Discursive Practice" and "Sociocultural Practice". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, we want to show that the establishment in Gilles Deleuze, happens when communication is transcended, so that the creation presupposes communication. In order to get to the consistency of this argument, we present how the communication appears in Deleuze; present the concept of creation and how it implies a time of no communication; argue, especially with Friedrich Nietzsche, that communication is not an option for humans, but a necessity, and that therefore we need to understand that the creation occurs precisely in the leak of communication, in that it works to way of a sieve. This investigation seeks to delineate the imbrications existing in the binomial communication and culture, with the objective of understanding the social inclusion dispositif from the analysis of the film "Colegas", released in 2013, and the socio-historical context of its production, based on notion of dispositif used by Foucault (2015) and operationalized by Deleuze (1996). As a procedure, the dispositif requires the method of discourse analysis used in this study, in line with film analysis, based on Vanoye and Goliot-Lété (2006), culminating in the hybrid called film discourse analysis. As a result, it made it possible to understand how the meanings manifested in "Colegas" dialogue with the discourses circulating in contemporary society about the inclusion of people with Down syndrome and the main conclusion is that the subject with Down was built in "Colegas" with based on the historical moment of production of the film, which has as its premise the dispositif of social inclusion. Oswald de Andrade’s anthropophagy proposes to devour the values of the other in order to critically digest them. It starts from “seeing with free eyes” and offers a diagnosis and prognosis of Brazilianness. Andrade thinks about Brazilian culture, with fruits that can be seen in Tropicália, Teatro Oficina and Manguebeat. From gluttony (Flusser) to iconophagy (Baitello Junior), through miscegenation (Pinheiro), Oswaldian poetics provokes Brazilian communicational research and leaves us with a possible anthropophagous philosophy, which seems to have contacts with the ecology of knowledge (Santos) and the complex thinking (Morin). In search of “embracing differences” (Künsch; Passos), our doubt – hence the essay as a methodology – is about the possibility of thinking about understanding as a relationship (Buber) that involves eating and being open to being eaten. This article defends the view that the most part of the world’s population is not a source of traditional journalistic text in the mass media. The media is leaded by a marketing orientation that limits the choices for advertisers and the economic, political and/or intellectual powers. It is proposed, therefore, as reportage, not journalistic story, the text, resulting from interview, outside from the pyramid formats, to bring to light the singularities from life and doings of people who are not in the actual journalism. It can say three main points for the proposal: journalism must stand a position; the plural sources should be the co-producer of the report; and journalism must to be reconsidered under the social perspective. In the theoretical line of constructivism, this study starts from analytical observational research, verifying the effectiveness of the theory in the practical process of publishing an interdisciplinary digital magazine, in a Social Communication course. The journal's link to a Study Group (PROLIM) in the area was essential, as well as a physical and structured space for editing (CEPCCOM Center). We found that the creation procedure encourages practical learning for students. The theoretical support throughout the process of practical activities allows the student to be involved in different areas of qualification, requiring theoretical and practical guidance. We realized that information (theory) becomes an attractive factor to students, as the subjects of interest are inserted, and the number of practices increases, confirming that the use of theoretical support is a facilitator of practice. This article aims to treat photography as an emulation mechanism of reality that could be embedded in socioeconomic relations and introduced itself in history as "another real". Emulation imposes an apparent conflict with the initial source of the image and acts - concomitantly - as an equal, similar and rival of events in the world. Starting from two examples of the institutional photography - images of Itaipu hydroelectric power plant and the image of White House summit watching the raid that captured Osama Bin Laden - the concept of emulation is proposed in tension with the notion of simulacrum by Jean Baudrillard, taking the contributions of authors such as Vilem Flusser and Norval Baitello Junior, in order to understand the relationships and interferences of images-emulators with social and cultural relations. In this article, we present an excerpt of research on freedom of expression carried out with workers from seven organizations. Based on the theoretical contributions of the binomial Communication and Work, Ergology and Sociology of work, we seek to understand how workers experience individual expression. Data were collected through a questionnaire that covered topics such as personal presentation, free speech, right to criticism, moral harassment, discrimination, artistic and religious expression. The results indicate that there is a significant lack of knowledge about the rules established for individual expression. Furthermore, individual expression is modulated by the need for communication in contemporary management practices and by the limits established by organizations, incorporated by workers. This text analyzes and examines theoretically and empirically what is now a matter of a serious discussion in the national academic environment around the production, diffusion and dissemination of scientific academic research: Do basic research activities contribute significantly to the progress in training of specialized personnel? If so, what role do academic diffusion products have as a teaching strategy in the area of communication studies in undergraduate and graduate programs? The objective was to evaluate the internal consistency and reliability of a theoretical scale that measures the production and scientific diffusion of communication in the higher education environment. A questionnaire with thirteen manifest variables was applied in a sample of 66 undergraduate and graduate professors in the area of Communication Sciences in a public university in of Mexico. The results confirm that a reliable instrument was available with data consistent with the validity of the scale. The evidence presented concludes that there are some causes to explain why undergraduate and graduate professional teaching and training are disconnected from research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to discuss the relationships between the knowledge produced by science and those from common sense, based on the Social Representations Theory (SRT) with emphasis on the dialogical approach. It starts with the Serge Moscovici's writings and seeks to establish relationships between his motivations for the proposition of the SRT and his defense of a rationality related to everyday knowledge. Considering authors of the SRT that highlight the socio-genetic, dynamic and dialogical character of social representations, we point differences between these knowledges, however, without considering them in a reduced and distanced way. Finally, it reflects on the relevance of the dialogical epistemology of social representations to overcome the dichotomies between these knowledges, highlighting the role of communication in this process. The article discusses the changes in TV journalism with the inclusion of comments from social networks on local news on Rede Globo, most notably SP1 in São Paulo. It analyzes the new spaces and roles of the viewer in the news environment through three broadcasts of SP1 from the beginning of July 2017. With these reports, the study aims to understand the representation of the public in journalistic narratives taken as a reference for the construction of the imaginary about São Paulo. It also intends to analyze the context of "mediatization" and reconfiguration of the "visibility" of the public in the news. Visual artifacts such as advertising and cinematographic and artistic images mark the ways in which subjects perceive others, the world and masculinities valued and visually devalued. In what measure does the representation of heroic masculinities differ from the representation of villainous masculinities? In order to present answers to this questioning, a research of documentary and analytical delineation was developed, whose objective was to analyze the visual construction and the performance of male characters as hero and villain. Under the foundations of the Studies of Visual Culture and the Studies of Masculinities, scenes of the animation "The Beauty and the Beast" (1991) of Disney were analyzed, whose protagonism and antagonism are both played by male characters. In the end, the aggressiveness, the competition and the non-demonstration of affections in the personality of Beast and Gaston were emphasized, and the need to expand and pluralize the emphasized representations of masculinity is highlighted. The study analyzes the dissemination of news about Science, Technology and Innovation (C, T & I) in the two largest newspapers in Mato Grosso, Diário de Cuiabá and A Gazeta, as well as their contribution to the regional scientific visibility and the destination space for public universities operating in the state. The analysis aimed to detect trends, thematic recurrence, and editorial section in which there are scientific facts, origin of the informative fact, journalistic genre, authorship and use of certain information sources in the selected articles. The method used for systematizing and analyzing data was Content Analysis (BARDIN, 2009). Thus, the observations infer about the focus and space featuring science and technology in the newspapers, newsvalues and dissemination of research produced in the state. Investigations point out that these public universities still do not occupy a relevant place in such outlets, which may be justified by the inadequacy of relationship channels, as well as by the need for a policy of scientific dissemination. From the mapping of the tweets circulating during the presidential election of 2018 that displayed the expression "That Globo does not show", the objective of this paper is to study which are the social-mediated affections in the discredit of the mainstream media as a legitimate source of information and its relation with the diffusion of false news. Therefore, we will use, as methodology, and analysis of the prosodic elements from the use of the tool Tone Analyzer and, in the sequence, of the pathetic effects from vocabulary and tropes analysis of the tweets that compose the research corpus from the semiotics of emotions. From the study, it is possible to perceive that irony is one of the main affections involved in this process. This article analyzes the disruption of State censorship during the return of democracy in Brazil in late 1980's, evaluating how new regulation entities have tried to distance themselves from previous censorship control. This analysis is based on the method proposed by Sousa, Trützchler, Fidalgo & Lameiras (2013), switching an international comparative mechanism into an inter-sectorial and historical evaluation of media regulation entities in Brazil. Analyzing structures, compositions, functions and regulation practices of each entity allowed expanding the original methodology, also analyzing their formation process, and resistance or support responses. Multiple partial media regulation entities have reduced powers, as result of historical empowerment of media companies against the State. This is a consequence of the negotiated democratization process in which media public concessions have been bargained in order to guarantee support from local elites to the national transition back to democracy. This text reflects on the know epistemic of communication presenting some prospects of their scientific work. Based on the premise that the communication is plurimultidisciplinar and, consequently, thin in the pretensions to demarcate with accuracy limits theoretical or methodological for their studies due to the array of subjectivity that pervades. In this reasoning, takes a look at the paradigm of transdisciplinarity (MORIN, 2005; BACHELARD, 1968) to suggest that the nuanças empirical and theoretical investigations are requesting additional appropriations and methodological contextualizations are consistent with the process of construction of objects. This article aims to present the communication developed by militant workers within companies do Grande ABC Paulista in the period of civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985). To conduct the survey were interviewed five workers, totaling about 10 hours of conversations between June and November 2014. They approached the type of vehicle used (print, oral, graffiti etc.) and strategies for the production and dissemination, revealing forms and innovative actions for the period. The study brings up memory issues, community and identity. That communication necessarily should be made confidentially to circumvent the repression of the dictatorship and, however, needed to pass, fulfilling its informative role and activist. This analysis aims at presenting the trajectory, performance, participation and thinking of the main theoreticians about researches that have been developed in the field of Science Communication. The projects were developed to cover a number of areas, whether in the cultural field -with the Intercultural Games of Indigenous Peoples (2007-2015)- or in Science. In the latter, we emphasize the Archaeology Project (2010-2013), AlcScens - generation of ethanol production scenarios as a support for the elaboration of public policies applied to the adaptation of the national sugar and alcohol sector to climate change (2010-2014) - and the engagement with young scientists in the Time Project - Technologies and Interactive Media in School (2007-2009). The projects have been developed with the support of "Educommunicative" methodologies and from the theoretical perspectives of Cultural Studies. From the results and the engagement with these interdisciplinary projects, we observed that in order to Science Communication to occur it is not enough to build and report the whole history, facts and information, but also collaborate in making the entire scientific process available and known, ensuring that people are engaged and able to be critical about the scientific fact. This paper discusses one of the results found in the survey The online video as a tool to communicate science in Spain and Brazil, held from 2014 to 2015 at the University of Pamplona, Spain. The survey was an international partnership between the Communication Sciences Research Group, coordinated by Dr. Prof. Bienvenido León, a researcher at the School of Communication at the University of Navarre, Spain, and the Culture and Science Group and Research on Scientific Journalism of the Graduate Program in Culture and Society of the Federal University of Bahia, supported by CNPq (National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development). The main objective of the research was to analyze the scientific rigor of the YouTube videos on air pollution, both in Portuguese and Spanish, conducted by scientists from the fields of chemistry, environmental chemistry, and chemical educators. Communication has experienced significant changes, not only in the structural field but also in terms of the language, the circulation flows and the consumption and production platforms. In this scenario, mobile devices have become the tools most commonly used for such tasks, as shown in several studies on the topic. Corroborating this, society assumes the role of content producer and consumer, which modifies the hierarchy of information production. Based on the preliminary results of a research funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), this paper reflects on the society we live in today, which is increasingly mobile and participatory. The history of communication as a science was marked by different moments. The first one was built by technological experimentation and later, by language transformation. But the consolidation of communication as applied social science has come from theoretical research, when Lasswell and Lazarsfeld respectively proposed the hypodermic and the two-step flow theories. However, applied research – which involves experimentation and its observation in a practical application process – is once again being targeted by the academy. This article presents the results of a research on the use of media in school, with reference to the magazine Carta na Escola. It is a case study (YIN, 2005) applied in 2011 to seven teachers and 120 high school students from a private school in the countryside of São Paulo. The focus group was also used as a resource for teachers and students as a qualitative research tool (COSTA, 2005). The main objective was to understand not only the importance of the role of media in school, but also the perception of teachers and students about its use as a motivating and facilitating supplementary resource, its strategic role for a critical reading of the world, besides complementing the curriculum content in the learning process in formal school settings. The results indicate that by using the media, teachers facilitate the students' desire to learn, since the news lead teachers and students to a sense of social belonging, of rationality and usefulness in life that goes beyond the school borders. As the main objective, this research tried to identify the agencies that use media training, and investigate how they compose and / or innovate their approach to training and development in the face of new market demands. This study sought to answer the following question: What are the methodological approaches used by agencies to develop communication process media training? 26 interviews were conducted in 14 agencies in Sao Paulo, enrolled in Brazilian Association of Communication Agencies (Abracom), whose analysis allows us to state that the main approaches are directly related to simulations (press, TV, radio and collective) and customization of training. Construction of organizational image is a constant concern in media training programs and among the most innovative actions identified, it is worth mentioning the use of role play and the use of media training for social media. The public cultural policies in Brazil, in these times of creative economy, include the participation of popular cultures, particularly through initiatives such as the "Pontos de Cultura". Accordingly, we sought to examine, from the actions of the "Ponto de Cultura Cabras de Lampião", how this policy contributes to the community mobilization and to the construction of local development. The theoretical and methodological approach come from the Latin American cultural studies and it includes the theories of public policy, community mobilization, networks and the local development. The analysis focuses on the networks – primordial to the process of mobilization – and combines approach techniques of communication strategies in material and virtual networks. The study revealed that, although it is also articulated in virtual networks, enabled by communication technologies, the material networks are the originators of the most lasting bonds between the "Ponto de Cultura Cabras de Lampião" and the other groups and the local community. With the emergence and progressive spread of television in Portuguese homes since the late 1950s (most of them have TVs in more than one room), computers in the 1970s and cell phones in the 1990s, there is a story that must be considered. In the Portuguese countryside, what path did its residents follow until the "domestication" (BERKER et al., 2005; SILVERSTONE, HADDON, 1996) of each kind of media – television, computer and cell phone? From the almost exclusive use in public spaces to the media integration in homes and in family and social dynamics, there was a path followed, either by the media (which is subject to constant changes), or by individuals adapting to such changes, but also requiring that the former mold itself to their needs and demands, thus making them never lose the epithet of "new". This paper presents an analysis and reflection on how the new media entered the everyday life of three family generations (grandparents, parents and children) and how these people, living in the countryside of Portugal, have transformed the appropriation of media into a continuous act. The analysis and reflections are based on empirical data collected during an investigation entitled "Screen generations in rural areas: a study of the new media in the everyday life rural of three Portuguese generations". In this article we intend to explain how the issue of blackness was developed in the Project Newspaper and Radio in UFJF: Land of Opportunities. In the radio workshop, the young people chose themes related to their daily life, produced and presented the programs. Blackness was one of the recurring themes. Through the discussions and productions, we believe that the radio workshop has contributed to the appreciation of the black culture and to the adolescents’ awareness of their citizenship. Communication is a basic social process defined by a significant interaction for reaching understanding, which is a fundamental component of peace. When absent, deficient, interrupted or used only for nurturing disagreements it is highly probable that conflict emerges and, in some cases, also violence, although it is clear that neither conflict nor violence result simply from communicational insufficiencies. But beyond such practical facts, a new look at the concepts of communication is imperative today in order to reexamine its prevailing suppositions because they contain some oppressive factors that are responsible for its mistakes, instrumentation, and downfalls as well as for its frequent and abstract denaturalization or its supposed incapacity as a knowledge horizon. Latin- American communication researches and studies must be open to the critical movements that are taking place in socio-cultural, political, and intellectual spaces, and that invite to a rethinking, from the outside, and as a new opportunity for the building of peace. Based on a psychological research about university students, it was verified that most of the students' complaints concerned the relational-affective and productive sectors. A second researched investigated how students are represented in the print media through news published by Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo and A Tribuna newspapers. Both researches made use of Ryad Simon's Adaptive Evolution Theory and its four sectors: relational-affective, productive, organic and social-cultural. The news focused intensively on the students' productive and social-cultural sectors rather than on relational-affective and organic ones. Journalists were requested to fill out a questionnaire and the majority of them considered that news are more complex when they focus all four sectors of human adaptation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of this article is to present a research about a cienciometric analysis (method that analyzes the development of scientific knowledge) to check and reflect on the interfaces and intrafaces of Communication through the journal Communication & Society, which is the oldest current scientific publication of the communication field in Brazil, edited by the Methodist University of São Paulo Publisher. The research took the taxonomy used in studies of Romancini (2006) as an initial reference. Communication & Society started in 1979. It's a half-year publication and presents 52 editions until January 2010. The incidence of interfaces and intrafaces in the magazine was analyzed from the titles and keywords of the selected content, a total of 216 non-specified texts and 208 texts named articles. The results indicate a great approach to the communication area itself, the intrafaces which are similar to the classification proposed by the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq), in Brazil, as a definition of the subareas of communication. It is also seen the emergence of other areas of interest, interfaces, in other words, the study of the communication area for reflections on other subjects, such as Education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
