4. Gestation pour autrui et nouvelles grand-parentalités.

- Abstract
Advancements in reproductive techniques have raised increasingly diverse and complex questions that challenge our integrative needs and confront our fantasies both personal and as therapists'. In contemporary democracies, this is a topic that both fuels discussion and divides opinions, especially in ethical and legal contexts. We delve into the issues faced by grandparents of children born into non-traditional or atypical families, where conception involves assistance flom individuals outside the family, particularly in cases of gestational surrogacy (GS). Does GS imply a symbolic disappearance of the mother? The varied terms used, differing significantly among countries, add to the internal turmoil surrounding these changes. The use of the term "intended parents" rather than "requesting parents" highlights the notion of desire. Employing the most accurate terms possible will contribute to the development of a conducive legal framework. Grandparental bonds take various forms: natural, cultural, genetic, physical; they can also be "social" bonds, akin to those observed and felt within blended families. In the case of GS, "good enough" grandparents will aid the child in building an identity rooted in multiple backgrounds, that of an individual woven from different narratives within an extended family.

This article examines the issues of literary impudence and homosexuality so much repudiated by African feminist theorists in Calixthe Beyala's erotic novel, Femme nue, femme noire. It reflects on the pertinence of using African feminist ideologies in the criticism of Beyala's fictions considering the fact her novelistic themes run contrary to the African feminist postulation where homosexuality, sex work and other transgressive tendencies constitute a strange and imported phenomenon. This article analyses the radicalization of African feminism through a close reading of Calixthe Beyala's Femme nue, femme noire by highlighting recourse to subversion as a radical tendency in Beyala's writings, which consists not only subverting the status quo through engaging in taboo-related discourse but also defending the sexual independence of the modern African woman as a form of emancipation. It concludes that the novel exhibits a new African feminism which is neither adapted to the collective feminist ethics nor to the African literary canon but to the individual feminine reality aimed at the total emancipation of the African woman. - Abstract
This article identifies the commonalities and conceptual differences of the term "construction" according to whether it is used in sociology or psychoanalysis in studies on sexual risk-taking linked to HIV / AIDS in homosexual men. It is based on the analysis of the epidemiological discourse in public health, on the concept of "social construction" of the AIDS risk, then on the study of the Freudian text "Constructions in analysis". A case example shows how the AIDS risk may be psychically and socially constructed in a way that contributes to prevention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PSYCHIATRY , *HOMOSEXUALITY , *GENDER dysphoria , *BIPOLAR disorder , *ANXIETY - Abstract
To present the clinical course of adolescents who presented to the child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic due to gender dysphoria and homosexuality through a patient series. The clinical features, comorbidities, and the treatment process of 10 patients who presented to the outpatient clinic and were followed up over a period were presented. The average age of the 10 patients, 5 girls and 5 boys, was 14.3 years for the girls and 16 years for the boys. Nine patients were admitted by their families primarily with the desire for the elimination of gender dysphoria or homosexual orientation. Only one female patient was brought by her family because of her intense depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts. All of the patients had comorbid psychiatric diseases, nine had depression, and one had bipolar affective disorder comorbidity. The anxiety levels of all patients were high. Psychiatric management in each patient focused on the emotional, cognitive and social difficulties of the case. The treatment of two girls was interrupted suddenly by the family because they saw that the homosexual orientation of the patients was continuing. Two male patients were not brought back for treatment after the evaluation process. Gender dysphoria and homosexual orientation are situations that families still find it difficult to accept and that they think it can be eliminated by pressure, coercion or psychiatric treatment. Patients show a high rate of psychiatric comorbidity due to family pressure and social exclusion. Although psychiatric support can cure comorbid disorders in a relatively short time, strains of family and social relationships continue to affect patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Taking up Antoine Compagnon’s thesis, according to which Sodom and Gomorrah constitutes a privileged place to look at the whole Proustian cycle, the article focuses on the social dimension of the novel, as well as on cruelty. In this context, the image of Jews and servants, and the role of the baron de Charlus are studied in particular. For the author also discusses the vision of love, especially homosexual, to show how Proust’s approach stems from sadism and masochism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract

- Abstract

This article presents the theatrical career of Guy Michaud, playwright, actor, and director. Working in two languages in a province that is primarily Anglophone, Michaud's work is situated at the intersection of two minority groups in Saskatchewan: the gay community and the Francophone community. Michaud's bilingual career in Saskatchewan coincided with the emergence of AIDs theatre, which redefined dominant ideologies regarding homosexuality. With compassion and care, Michaud created characters who gave a human face to the AIDs tragedy and called into question the Anglophone and heteronormative hegemony in Saskatchewan. By examining Michaud's writing and conducting a research interview with him, the current study offers a biographical portrait of this theatre artist followed by an in-depth exploration of the topics found in his work: AIDs and its associated grief, homosexuality, and alienated youth. The purpose of the article is to analyze the act of declaring oneself homosexual as a clinical-political act. At first, we turn to the process of constitution of homosexuality by psychiatric knowledge in the mid-nineteenth century. Then, we question how it is possible to resist these medical conceptions that came to classify homosexuality as an abnormality. Finally, we emphasize that the act of declaring oneself to be homosexual deserves to be seen as an act of resistance that provides the subject with a certain elaboration of their questions, promoting, at the same time, a certain resignification in the conception of homosexuality. Renaud Camus's Journal romain 1985–1986 is used here for an examination of the metatextual reflections present in it that demonstrate what the diary, as a genre, can become by combining several passions: topography, homosexuality, aesthetics and culture. Here, the diary becomes an oeuvre. To bring out the specific tone of Camus's Journal romain, this analysis highlights the different facets of his diaristic writing. In fact, Camus's work challenges a number of concepts, including that of contemporary political correctness. This vehement diarist reveals here how writing can become life and life can become writing. In his diaristic writing he adopts a practice that straddles literature and life, and elevates it to an unprecedented level, resulting in an aesthetics of existence. Thus, the first of his many "scandals" is that of the fetishisation of the diary. Unlike some others, perhaps, this one is both amusing and illuminating. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study focuses on the identity constructions of a group of young Tunisian homosexuals. Led by a survey based on semi-structured interviews with nine Muslim gays and six Muslim Lesbians, the study attempts to report on the negotiations between a Muslim identity and a homosexual identity. The qualitative analysis of the data reveals the attachment of gays and lesbians to their sexual identity. Nevertheless, the relationship with Islam takes many forms. Some opt for the separation between the practice of the precepts of Islam and the homosexual practice in order to diminish the dissonance between faith and homosexuality. Others choose to move towards a form of spirituality by creating an individual and singular relationship with God. Finally, one of the questioned gay men opts for detaching himself from Islam for a better preservation of his sexual identity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From the observation of the debates around sex and gender that have taken place in France since the beginning of this century, the article questions the place of the American psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Robert Stoller. By recalling some facts that marked his reception in France at the end of the 1970s, we question his presence within his profession and the opportunity for contemporary French psychiatrists to incorporate his intellectual orientations and conceptions. The expression «gender identity» is now well known and widely used, and Stoller was one of the first to use it. To welcome Stoller is not to welcome the philosopher Judith Butler, even though these two figures are sometimes (strangely) associated. Beyond the debates that the concept of gender continues to provoke and the troubles that it arouses within the professions related to the brain, it is an opportunity for its representatives to question the social role of psychiatry and its capacity to formulate a new pact between society and itself. Incorporating the gender issues can also be an opportunity to test the relevance of a conceptual tool or even to contribute to reformulating the reception and consideration by mental health services of people affected by the expression of their sexual identity. - Abstract
From an evolutionary point of view, same-sex sexual interactions have long been considered a major paradox. This is because they have persisted throughout generations despite, presumably, not offering direct reproductive benefits and, apparently, reducing individual fitness. Nonetheless, same-sex sexual interactions are common in many animal species. This paper reviews some functional hypotheses that seek to solve this evolutionary puzzle: some consider it adaptative, meaning that these behaviors would bring benefits to individuals; others see it as a neutral by-product of other advantageous characteristics. A third branch understand same-sex sexual interactions to be non-adaptative and potentially deleterious to individuals. Finally, this paper discusses a revolutionary hypothesis that, unprecedently, questions whether sexual interactions involving exclusively individuals of the opposite sex are in fact the basal state of sexual behavior. This article presents the position of institutions in the public space on issues relating to the rights of sexual minorities in Burkina Faso and gives the reasons for these positions in the eyes of the Ouagalais population. We first address the progress on the rights of sexual minorities in the Western world and the ongoing resistance on the African continent. Then we highlight open opposition from religious, political and traditional circles which are becoming known more and more frequently through protest marches, virulent statements in the press media and hostile publications posted in discussion forums online. Finally, we show that these positions strongly opposed to homosexuality are also expressed by young populations under 30, urbanized and with a higher level of education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Destruction of tutelary figures and bourgeois respectability, free love, gay activism, sexual revolution, hedonism, drugs and psychedelic fantasies, wandering, destructive barbarity and provocation…, such countercultural issues are on the agenda of the Argentine writer Copi. If his work can be termed «minor» it is only in the Deleuzian sense, for its apparent superficiality is but a mask hiding its highly significant, subversive, political and revolutionary nature.

GAY men , *SCIENTIFIC literature , *SAME-sex relationships , *HOMOSEXUALITY , *VIRTUAL reality - Abstract
The urban experience of gay men is of social and academic relevance since it points to modes of subjectivation and circulation in the city that give new meaning to the expected uses of spaces, subverting the mechanisms of exclusion, disciplining, cleaning, and segregation of bodies considered abject and undesirable. In this sense, we sought to know how the urban experience of cisgender gay men has been addressed in the scientific literature. Therefore, an integrative literature review of articles indexed in the CAPES journal portal published until April 2020 was carried out, based on the descriptors urban experience (is/exact) AND gay, urban experience (is/ exact) AND homosexual?, city AND homosexual? and city AND gay. We found 29 publications explored through thematic analysis. It was observed that the theme has grown in the number of publications mostly investigated in the Human Sciences, based on a qualitative approach of empirical studies carried out by male Latin American researchers. Two axes of analysis condense the main discussions: 1) Management of differences in the city; and (2) homosociability and fragmentation of urban experiences. The first addresses the articulation between the processes of gender-gentrification of spaces and the social markers of difference: public spaces, commercial/ consumer/leisure establishments, and virtual environments that present different degrees of openness to the management of differences in the city. The second explores homosexual relationships mediated by social norms and power relations, revealing homosexuality shattered in different stereotypes. The concentration in metropolitan cities, in spaces and moments of leisure/entertainment, or uses mediated by consumption, are several limitations of these studies as they reinforce a global gay model derailed from everyday experiences. Therefore, subjects such as "maricona", the "black fag" and the "effeminate" contradict even more the homogenizing discourses and recipes of living, cracking cities to welcome differences. GAY Americans , *HUMAN sexuality , *HOMOSEXUALITY , *TRANSLATORS , *AUDIOVISUAL materials - Abstract
This article examines the dubbing of the 2014 American gay-themed series Looking and its treatment of sexual references into Castilian Spanish with a view to exploring the role of audiovisual translation in the discursive construction of homosexuality. While some scholars have decried a historical tendency in translation to attenuate or even suppress references in connection with non-normative sex, the dubbing of Looking, I claim, amplifies these references by way of two strategies: up-scaling and increased explicitness. Drawing upon Jeremy Munday's (2012) concept of "evaluation" and on appraisal theory as expounded by Martin and White (2005), I aim at revealing the significance of the translator's lexicogrammatical selections and how these may alter the semiotic import of the characters and, thus, of a certain portrayal of homosexuality. Additionally, such choices may be indicative of the translator's own stance towards issues of sexuality. Though the strategies analyzed may appear to perpetuate commonplaces regarding gay sexual experience, they ultimately serve, I argue, as a device to generate a language that goes beyond diluted expressions of homosexuality. BISEXUAL men , *BRAZILIANS , *HOMOPHOBIA , *GAY men - Abstract
Effeminate gay and bisexual men are targets of double stigmatization because of anti-effeminacy and society's homophobia, even among the non-heterosexual community. This study aimed to investigate, in an exploratory way, the relational structure of anti-effeminacy through network analysis. An online survey was carried out with 1,123 non-heterosexual Brazilian men over 18 years old and with a mean age of 26.85 years (SD = 8.51). The relational model of anti-effeminacy produced in this study found associations with internalized homophobia (rp = 0.32) and predilection for more manlike partners (rp = 0.45). In addition, it was possible to identify an indirect relationship with the opening of sexual orientation, which occurs through internalized homophobia. This study, in addition to being the first one to develop a network analysis on antieffeminacy, contributes to the understanding of the phenomenon in the Brazilian context, providing perspectives for further research in the field. Though homosexuality is no longer considered a psychopathology, in many countries it is still considered a crime and punishments include even the death penalty. As gay rights progressed, so did ultraconservatism, which is accompanied by violence. According to Freud, homosexuality is as enigmatic as heterosexuality, but the belief in sexual complementarity -- unattainable according to psychoanalysis -- is perhaps a factor that leads many transsexuals to seek to harmonize sex and gender. They identify themselves as homosexuals in the first place, before identifying as transsexuals and their discourses reveal that adequation of the transsexual body may be in line with the cultural and homophobia internalized by homosexuals. Could the transsexual demand to match body and soul be a surreptitious attempt to deny homosexuality in contemporary times? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In this work, we study the case of unexpected homosexual adultery in heterosexuals couples. Infidelity does not necessarily lead to the breakdown of the link, can represent a violation of implicit or explicit agreements that had characterized the relationship but also an evoulition. In the case of homosexual adultery, the partners find themselves not only dealing with the infidelity, but with managing the implications of a homosexual relationship inside the couple with respect to their children, parents, family, and social context. The couple's ideas about homosexuality are an important element in dealing with such kind of infidelity. In this work, we illustrate how the issue of homosexuality has been a complex one for psychoanalytic theory, an observation that allows one to understand the mystification of the heterosexual couple who faces homosexual adultery. This study explores secularisation in a traditionally Catholic community through the analysis of intimate relationships which fall outside Catholic morality. It gives an indication of how individuals in contemporary society perceive Church teachings on sexuality in terms of the relationship choices they make. The research draws upon 2 years of fieldwork carried out with Drachma LGBTI, a space where lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex (LGBTI) people of faith may explore and deepen their spirituality. I also conducted 35 in-depth interviews with LGBT and non-LGBT individuals whose lifestyle runs counter to official Church teachings on sexuality, despite their Catholic faith that is, who are in a same-sex relationship or else divorced, cohabiting or in a civil marriage. The study revealed that while informants may disregard Church teachings on matters of sexuality, their reconstructed sexual morality is still embedded within a Catholic framework. HOMOSEXUALITY , *SEXUAL orientation , *WELL-being , *CHLORPROMAZINE , *AGITATION (Psychology) , *SHOCK therapy - Abstract
Between 1960 and 1962, a children's judge placed two French adolescents in a psychiatric hospital in Alsace. Described as "delinquent sexual perverts", Michel, 15, and Bernard, 18, were in fact two young homosexuals. However, at the time, homosexuality was considered a psychiatric disorder that should be "cured". With this in mind, psychiatrists set up shock or disgust therapies to push patients to become heterosexual. In this hospital, the chief doctor tested two new substances on them: mescaline and LSD. Injected in very high doses, the idea was to cause a powerful psychological shock in the hope of changing the adolescents' sexual orientation. This type of placement as well as the treatment inflicted were then common (lobotomies or electroshocks were part of the "therapeutic" possibilities to "cure" homosexuality). Two aspects of these experiments are however particularly original: on the one hand, the use of substances such as mescaline and LSD, on the other hand, the very type of "therapy" implemented. It would thus seem, in the current state of knowledge on the use of LSD and mescaline in psychiatric therapy, that these experiences were isolated facts: the literature remains silent on the subject of the use of mescaline to "cure" homosexuality, and the few known therapies carried out using LSD were offered to adults and above all volunteers. Finally, these therapeutic methods were the opposite: psychotherapies in which particular attention was paid to patients and their well-being in the United States or in England and "psychic shocks" in Alsace. This hospital is the only French example of an attempt to "treat" homosexuality using psychedelics. The use of these substances by the French team therefore began in 1960; it involved administering mescaline or LSD in high doses (an exceptional characteristic in Europe where psychiatrists were in favor of therapy with low doses known as "psycholytic") and in injections, ranging from 200 to 1200 mg for mescaline and for LSD from 100 to 800 micrograms. By way of comparison, a recreational dose is 300 to 500 mg for mescaline and 100 micrograms for LSD, administered orally. In order to create "psychic shock", the effects of the substances were immediately stopped by the injection of chlorpromazine, a powerful neuroleptic. The authors noted that for all patients, "two modes of behavior are common: stupor and agitation". They sometimes tore their sheets or pajamas or grabbed the examiner, asking for support. The sessions were linked: in 118 days, Bernard would undergo 16 of these sessions, one every 7 days on average. Michel, during one of the sessions, felt like he had been killed by his psychiatrists. Neither would subsequently become heterosexual. Elsewhere in the world, other forms of LSD conversion therapy have emerged. However, these were benevolent psychotherapies; the product was not injected but taken orally (therefore with more progressive effects), and the approach was not the same. Thus, acceptance of their homosexuality by patients was considered as desirable an option for therapists as was conversion to heterosexuality. For French practitioners, on the contrary, "healing" was the only objective. This article will highlight a double French specificity in the use of psychedelics: first, the refusal to introduce the new method of administering these substances, called "set and setting", theorized from the late 1950s in Anglo-Saxon countries, and yet known and discussed by French experimenters. Then, it will show the use of these substances in shock therapy, particularly in the treatment of homosexuality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
