The title compound, [Sr(C10H6NO2)2(H2O)2]n, contains an eight-coordinate SrII ion displaying a distorted square-antiprismatic geometry, two quinoline-3-carboxylate ligands and two terminal water molecules. The title compound, C13H9NO4, crystallizes in a zwitterionic form with the pyridine N atom protonated and the carboxyl OH group deprotonated. The benzene and pyridinium rings are inclined with a dihedral angle of 31.42 (14)° between them. A previous report of this stucture claims, we believe incorrectly, that neither of the carboxylate groups is deprotonated [Zhang et al. (2010). Acta Cryst. E66, o2928–o2928]. In the crystal, intermolecular O—H...O, N—H...O and weak C—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions link adjacent molecules into a three-dimensional supramolecular network.

In the title compound, [Zn(C12H9O2)2(C12H12N2)]·0.5H2O, the water molecule lies on a twofold rotation axis. The ZnII atom is coordinated by three O atoms from two 1-naphthylacetate ligands, one monodentate and the other asymmetric bidentate chelate, and two N atoms from a 5,5′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand, giving an irregular environment. One of the water molecules is located on a site with half-occupancy.

The Hbidc ligands connect the Cd atoms into a two-dimensional network parallel to (001). N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds involving the water molecules are observed in the crystal structure.

The water-coordinated Ca atom is N,O-chelated by the monocarboxylate anion; the carboxyl –CO2 portion engaged in chelation bears an acid hydrogen. The free –CO2 portion engages in bonding to adjacent Ca atoms. The CaII centres are connected through the ligand, forming a layer structure; the layers are linked by hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.

Each of the carboxylate –CO2 fragments of the dianion ligand in the title compound, {[Sr(C9H4N2O4)(H2O)2]·H2O}n, chelates to a SrII atom and at the same time, one of the two O atoms coordinates to a third SrII atom. The μ4-bridging mode of the dianion generates a square-grid layer motif; adjacent layers are connected by O—H...O, O—H...N and N—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. The eight-coordinate Sr atom exists in a distorted square-antiprismatic geometry. The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin with a minor twin component of 24%.

The flexible 1H-benzimidazole-5,6-dicarboxylate ligands link the NiII centres, forming an infinite zigzag chain parallel to [001]. In the crystal structure of the title complex, [Tb(C6H4NO2)(C2O4)(H2O)2]n, the TbIII cation is coordinated by four O atoms from two oxalate ligands, two O atoms from two isonicotinate ligands and two O atoms from water molecules within a distorted square–antiprismatic coordination. The TbIII cation, the isonicotinate anion and the two crystallographically independent water molecules occupy general positions, whereas one of the two crystallographically independent oxalate anions is located on a center of inversion, and the second oxalate anion is located on a twofold rotation axis. The TbIII cations are linked by the oxalate and isonicotinate anions into layers, which are connected via intermolecular hydrogen-bonding and π–π stacking [with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.509 (2) and 3.343 (3) Å] interactions into a three-dimensional network.

The chemical name in the title, the formula and the scheme of the paper by Gu, Hao, Song, Lin & Ma [Acta Cryst. (2008), E64, m649–m650] are corrected.

The title europium(III) carboxylate, [Eu3(C8H7O2)9]n, has three independent Eu atoms, two of which are eight-coordinate in a square-antiprismatic coordination geometry, whereas the third is nine-coordinate in a tricapped trigonal-prismatic coordination geometry. The metal atoms are linked by two bidentate and seven tridentate methylbenzoate groups into a linear chain running along the b-axis direction.

A new coordination polymer, [Cu(C7H2N2O7)(C5H5NO)]n, exhibits a double-chain structure, in which 3,5-dinitro-2-oxidobenzoate and 3-hydroxypyridine both act as bridging ligands, connecting adjacent copper(II) centers to form an infinite double-stranded chain. The asymmetric unit contains one CuII ion, one 3,5-dinitro-2-oxidobenzoate ligand and a 3-hydroxypyridine ligand. Coordination by one N atom and three O atoms from two different 3,5-dinitro-2-oxidobenzoate ligands and a 3-hydroxypyridine ligand creates a square-planar CuII center, which is augmented by a less tightly bonded fifth phenol O atom to form a square-pyramidal five-coordinate complex with an essentially planar base. The double-stranded chains are stabilized by intrachain π–π interactions [the centroid-to-centroid distance between adjacent aromatic rings is 3.719 (7) Å], and further linked through O—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supramolecular network.

In the title mononuclear complex, [Cu(C8H7O2)Cl(C12H8N2)(H2O)], the CuII atom is coordinated by one carboxylate O atom from a monodentate 4-methylbenzoate ligand, two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, one chloride ion and one water molecule in a square-pyramidal geometry. The crystal structure exhibits inter- and intramolecular C—H...Cl, C—H...O, O—H...Cl and O—H...O hydrogen bonds, as well as C—H...π interactions of phenanthroline and methyl H atoms towards the π-systems of neighboring 4-methylbenzoate units and the pyridine rings of the phenanthroline system [centroid–centroid distances are 2.706 (2) and 2.992 (1) Å, respectively].

The title complex, [Er(C5H5NO)(C2O4)(H2O)]n, is a new erbium polymer based on oxalate and 4-oxidopyridinium ligands. The ErII center is coordinated by six O atoms from three oxalate ligands, one O atom from a 4-oxidopyridinium ligand and one water molecule, and displays a distorted square-antiprismatic coordination geometry. The oxalate ligands are both chelating and bridging, and link ErII ions, forming Er–oxalate layers in which the attached water and 4-oxidopyridinium units point alternately up and down. A mirror plane passes through the Er atom, one C, the oxide O and two oxalate O atoms. The layers are assembled into a three-dimensional supramolecular network via intermolecular hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions [centroid–centroid distances of 3.587 (2) Å between parallel pyridinium rings]. Both the water molecule and the 4-oxidopyridinium ligand are disordered over two sites in a 1:1 ratio.

In the title three-dimensional coordination polymer, {[Fe(C8H5NO4)(H2O)]·2H2O}n, the FeII atom exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry, being coordinated by one N and four O atoms from four 5-aminoisophthalate ligands and one water molecule. In addition, the crystal structure is stabilized by numerous O—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds.
