In questo deliverable si presenta un possibile protocollo per la valutazione del prodotto finale del progetto PDT2-1, ossia la piattaforma Rientr@. Poiché non è stato possibile completare la validazione della piattaforma nel corso del progetto - a causa dei ritardi accumulati a seguito della pandemia da Sars-CoV-2 - non è possibile riportare dei risultati. Si auspica in ogni caso di portare a compimento la validazione nel corso dei prossimi mesi; il seguente protocollo potrà essere modificato e rivisto dopo un confronto con il personale di INAIL delle sedi coinvolte. Il protocollo di studio riportato prevede come outcome primario l'usabilità del sistema, che sarà valutata sia da utenti esperti (WST > 80), sia da novizi (WST < 20) dopo una prova dei 3 ambienti virtuali sviluppati in Rientr@. La valutazione dell'usabilità costituisce un primo passo per la validazione del sistema, in quanto essa rappresenta un requisito essenziale affinché lo strumento sia usato in modo efficace e continuato nel tempo. Una volta comprovata l'usabilità e l'accettabilità del sistema sarà possibile procedere con la valutazione dell'efficacia clinica della piattaforma Rientr@. In questo studio è comunque prevista, insieme all'usabilità, la valutazione di una serie di parametri soggettivi ed oggettivi che consentiranno di ottenere informazioni più approfondite in merito all'esperienza nel suo complesso, in particolare: (i) qual è l'accettabilità della tecnologia proposta e (ii) se dipende dalle risorse dell'utente, (iii) se il sistema causa l'insorgenza di effetti collaterali, (iv) se l'uso della piattaforma rappresenta una fonte di stress per l'utente. Inoltre, si intervisteranno gli operatori coinvolti per raccogliere le loro opinioni e dei suggerimenti per il miglioramento, ove necessario.

In questo deliverable si descrive brevemente la piattaforma Rientr@, risultato finale del progetto PDT2/1, che viene consegnata come prototipo il 7 dicembre 2021. La piattaforma Rientr@ rappresenta un simulatore di sedia a rotelle manuale ed elettronica, in cui l'utente può fare esperienza di tre diversi tipi di ambienti: outdoor (AV1), casa (AV3-Casa) e ufficio (AV3-Lavoro). Le difficoltà dei task proposti nei 3 ambienti virtuali sono definibili dall'operatore INAIL, il quale, mediante l'uso dell'applicazione di configurazione (AV2) può vedere e modificare la configurazione predefinita e calcolata a partire dai risultati del Wheelchair Skill Test. Il deliverable riassume brevemente la strumentazione di cui è composta la piattaforma finale (Capitolo 2), il funzionamento degli ambienti virtuali (Capitolo 3) e riporta alcune immagini scattate durante il funzionamento della stessa (Capitolo 4).

The design and implementation of a serious game (SG) concerning inhibition skills in children are presented. The SG consists of a set of activities, each eliciting the tendency to respond in an immediate and inappropriate (wrong) way. The SG is based on the Dual Pathway model of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) proposed by Sonuga-Barke and on the Unity/Diversity model of executive functions proposed by Miyake. In the SG, children must block impulsive tendencies, reflect upon the situation, inhibit irrelevant thoughts, and find the non-immediate solution. A study was carried out by testing the SG on typically developing primary school children (30 children, 16 boys; age, M = 9.30 years, SD = 0.87) to verify that it measures the same variables addressed by tests usually employed to assess attention ability in children and to diagnose ADHD. Three standardized tasks belonging to the Italian Battery for ADHD were administered, as well as an ad hoc questionnaire devised to check the acceptability, usability, and comprehensibility of the SG. Positive correlations between impulsiveness as measured by standard tests and impulsiveness scores in the SG emerged. These findings support the notion that skills associated with the control of impulsivity are involved in the SG. Furthermore, self-report ratings in the questionnaire showed that the SG is easy to be understood, is engaging, and elicits positive reactions in children.

The design of a computer-supported serious game concerning inhibition skills in children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is reported. The game consists of a series of activities, each eliciting the tendency to respond in an immediate, inadequate way. The game is based on the Dual Pathway Model of ADHD proposed by Sonuga-Barke. In the game, children must block impulsive tendencies, reflect upon the situation, inhibit irrelevant thoughts, and find the non-intuitive solution. In the game, the player personifies a superhero, who is asked to save a realm on the opposite side of the Earth (Antonyms) where things happen according to the opposite of the usual rules. The hero faces a series of challenges, in the form of mini-games, to free the planet from enemies crossing different scenarios. To succeed in the game, the player should change his/her attitude by thinking before performing any action rather than acting on impulse. The player is induced to be reflective and thoughtful as well. Results from the evaluation of a preliminary version of the serious game are reported. They support the notion that Antonyms is an adequate tool to lead children to inhibit their tendency to behave impulsively.

Questo documento illustra l'architettura ed il sistema di controllo della piattaforma meccatronica sviluppata all'interno del progetto PDT2/1 (Rientr@). Il documento è stato redatto a partire dallo schema generale dell'architettura, dettagliando successivamente i vari moduli che la compongono, approfondendo dettagli tecnici ed implementativi con il procedere del documento. Dopo una breve introduzione relativa alle caratteristiche fondamentali ed alla finalità della piattaforma meccatronica (Cap.1), viene illustrata l'architettura di sistema descrivendo gli obiettivi e le funzionalità in carico ai vari dispositivi e le informazioni trasmesse tra esse (Cap.2). Sulla base di questo schema generale, vengono successivamente descritti in modo dettagliato i vari dispositivi che la compongono e le funzioni svolte all'interno dei singoli moduli (Cap.3). Una sezione è dedicata specificatamente ai protocolli di comunicazione che consentono lo scambio dati tra i diversi moduli ed il controllore della piattaforma (Cap.4). Nella parte finale del documento vengono approfonditi gli schemi e gli algoritmi di controllo (Cap.5). Il documento si conclude con la presentazione di alcune simulazioni effettuate (Cap. 6).

In questo deliverable si descrive lo stato di avanzamento nello sviluppo del Prototipo I, ossia l'implementazione su piattaforma GRAIL dell'ambiente virtuale dedicato alla guida della sedia a rotelle in uno scenario outdoor (AV1). Congiuntamente allo stato di avanzamento del Prototipo I, si descrivono anche gli avanzamenti fatti per lo sviluppo di AV1 con Unity 3D, ossia dello sviluppo dell'ambiente di training che sarà effettivamente sviluppato per funzionare con visore immersivo e la piattaforma meccatronica.

Return to work and participation in the community life have been recognized to improve wheelchair users (WUs) quality of life. Therefore, the development of strategies to help them recover their autonomy in the activities of daily living (ADL) represents a key challenge. Virtual Reality (VR) has recently emerged as a promising tool for providing end users with a multi-sensory simulation of diverse scenarios, in an interactive, controllable, repeatable and safe environment, increasing the possibility to acquire new skills. In this work, a VR-based simulator aimed at promoting the work reintegration for WUs has been designed and developed.

In questo deliverable si descrive lo stato di avanzamento relativo allo sviluppo dell'applicazione AV2, ossia l'ambiente virtuale dedicato all'operatore per la configurazione degli ambienti di training e del loro livello di difficoltà. AV2, pur consentendo all'operatore di apportare tutte le modifiche che egli crede opportune, "suggerisce" una configurazione di default; tale configurazione si basa sulle capacità del singolo utente valutate tramite il Wheelchair Skill Test (WST). Al momento, AV2 consente la configurazione del solo ambiente outdoor (presentato in D3.1), ma l'architettura con cui è stato realizzato permetterà di eseguire la configurazione anche degli ambienti casa e lavoro (AV3) una volta che questi saranno sviluppati.

Since several years scientists are carrying on research about innovative systems, based on robotics, mechatronics devices and IT tools – especially the graphical ones – to support patients in rehabilitation programs for rescuing from various brain damages due to adverse events as stroke. Training sessions with a combination of robot and virtual reality (VR) lead to better rehabilitation outcomes than using only a robot and evidence from the field proved the importance of the use of VR interfaces in rehabilitation. The main aim of such a kind of environments is to monitor, motivate and drive the patient during the rehabilitation sessions. These systems mainly provide motor guidance and multimedia communication channels also measuring patients' performance and other observable variables. The approach implemented is usually based on gaming, where the patient has the key role to perform certain tasks or movements for controlling the game in the correct way and exercise the injured part. According to daily experience from physiotherapists, different aspects related to the physical and self-perceived patients' state revealed to have a fundamental role in influencing the rehabilitation session. Indeed, the treatment result depends not only on motor skills but also on patient's personal behavior and feelings that are not directly investigable, observable and measurable from outside. In other words this kind of elements can only be assessed by subjective measurements (as questions, interviews, narratives) revealing the point of view of the patient. Moreover, the emotional state has implications at different levels: on one hand, it is important to evaluate if the single rehabilitation session affects the emotional state of the patient, on the other, if the performance was influenced by this state. Some answers of a questionnaire administrated to post-stroke patients in a previous study underlined also the need for the patient to focus his/her attention on the trained body portion and the relevance of a visual feedback on movements to increase self-awareness on the action performed, avoiding any possible distraction derived from other kind of tasks and related visual/auditory stimuli. Patient-centered models of care are actually becoming increasingly common among rehabilitation clinical settings. They help to focus the therapy on improving the treatment of those deficiencies that most influence the quality of life of the patient. Another important aspect is represented by the relationship with the caregiver that in virtually assisted rehabilitation would not be direct anymore and will need to be mediated without completely loosing natural interaction. According to this patient centered vision, and in order to reduce possible side effects related to semi-automatic rehabilitation systems, it has been studied and developed a system which has not the aim of merely entertain the patient but to focalize the rehabilitation on him/her as a proactive character aware of what is happening and of the quality of the work performed.

In questo deliverable si descrivono i moduli software che compongono l'architettura del sistema Rientr@ sulla base dei requisiti e delle metodologie definite precedentemente. Si descrive la progettazione dei tre scenari di training (ambiente outdoor, la casa, il luogo di lavoro) congiuntamente ai task che l'utente può o deve svolgere all'interno di essi e alle variabili oggettive che possono essere misurate per la vautazione della performance. Il deliverable presenta il modello cinematico che sarà utilizzato per la simulazione della sedia a rotelle e lo studio effettuato per la simulazione di terreni con diversi gradi di asperità e delle collisioni con gli oggetti presenti nell'ambiente virtuale. Infine, si riportano gli avanzamenti nella definizione della parte hardware del simulatore ed, in particolare, i progressi fatti nella definizione della seduta, sia per la simulazione della sedia a rotelle manuale, sia per quella elettronica.

This paper describes the planning and the implementation of a serious game (SG) for the improvement of attention skills in children with Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) to promote learning and autonomous management of impulsive behaviors and to inhibit irrelevant thoughts. The SG, called Antonyms, is a personal computer videogame consisting of a series of activities, each eliciting the tendency to respond in an immediate, inadequate way based on the Dual Pathway Model proposed by Sonuga-Barke. Children must block such a tendency, reflect upon the situation and find the nonintuitive solution to foster self-regulation skills. Antonyms consists of three mini-games in a single framework. It is designed for educational and rehabilitation settings. The expected outcome is an increase in the ability to keep attention focused on the relevant elements of situations that children face in their everyday life.

Creativity plays an important role in everyday life. In particular, flexibility in thinking, which is one of its main components related to the ability to adopt different perspectives, is essential to face daily life challenges. Flexibility in thinking may be hindered by ageing or by neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and stroke. However, several studies demonstrated that creativity may be maintained and increased to improve the independence and quality of life of these patients. The aim of this work is the design and development of a training protocol to enhance flexibility in thinking in post stroke patients. The training program is characterized by the presence of a Serious Game (SG) with the aim of fostering the transfer of flexibility in thinking to real life

In questo deliverable sono presentati i requisiti di sistema della piattaforma Rientr@. La definizione di tali requisiti ha richiesto uno studio approfondito e puntuale di diversi aspetti legati sia alle caratteristiche e alle necessità dell'utente target, sia alle tecnologie attualmente presenti sul mercato e potenzialmente impiegabili per la realizzazione del setup finale.

This paper describes the design of a training program for adults with cognitive impairments associated to brain damages. The goal is to improve flexibility through a creative thinking approach inspired to everyday problems and challenges with the innovative support of technology. The training is grounded on the three fundamental components of creativity: widening, connecting, and reorganizing. It consists of 5 units, each of them scheduled across 4 steps. Units 2 and 5 include a fifth step consisting of two serious games based on the technological support of a laptop. The training program has been implemented in a pilot study, whose outcomes will be the base for future improvements of the whole training.

In questo deliverable sono descritti gli scenari applicativi del progetto Rientr@; lo scopo finale è quello di proporre all'utente in sedia a rotelle diverse situazioni di vita reale in cui esercitare ed affinare le proprie abilità di movimento, in modo tale che egli sia preparato ad affrontarle senza timori né ansie e che impari a svolgere le attività della vita quotidiana nella più completa sicurezza.

Il progetto RIPRENDO@home si è posto come obiettivo lo sviluppo di una piattaforma dedicata alla riabilitazione neuromotoria post-ictus domiciliare, comprendente dispositivi per il riposizionamento dinamico e la mobilizzazione degli arti, integrati con tecnologie di realtà virtuale in grado di incrementare il grado di coinvolgimento e partecipazione del paziente. Parallelamente sono stati sviluppati sistemi e metodi di monitoraggio multiparametrico per valutare l'efficace progressione della terapia riabilitativa.

Accidents at work often lead the involved people to severe impairments, which can seriously compromise their life and their work activities. Various studies have proven that, for disabled people, being employed contributes to a better quality of life, thus it is important to give them the opportunity to continue their professional career. This pa-per presents a framework aimed at supporting the training and the work-reintegration of people that, after an acci-dent, are forced to use a wheelchair. In the proposed work, the Virtual Reality is the leading technology for allow-ing the wheelchair users to be trained in simulated environments thus, in safe conditions. Moreover, the behaviour of the users is tracked during the whole training session for monitoring, processing and assessing, through seman-tic models, their functional level and the jobs that are still suitable for them.

Rehabilitation after stroke supported by mechatronic devices and digital environments is a matter of research since many years. It has been discovered that these technologies bring effective improvements in patients' life but clearer results are expected to come. The developed systems often focus their attention on games with the main aim of engaging the patients. In this paper a prototype of a robotic device coupled with a digital environment for rehabilitating at home the upper limb by focusing the attention both on the patient and on the quality of the performance is presented.

The purpose of the article is to introduce possibilities of using Augmented Reality instructions in order to better understand technical drawings. The aim of these instructions based on 3D models is to create AR training applications and analyze their impact on the users. These instructions consist in a 3D model, superimposed over the technical drawing. The AR application also offers step by step instructions for 3D modelling in CAD software, which are very useful in creating the 3D model starting from a technical drawing. The AR application was tested by students from the Faculty of Engineering in Sibiu, obtaining great improvements in their 3D modelling times. The results of a survey that the students completed reveal that the AR modelling instructions also aids their spatial visualization capability.

Manuale della libreria software GIOVE DYNAMICS, parte del framework GIOVE che è una suite di librerie software sviluppate in ITIA per la realizzazione di ambiente di realtà virtuale e grafica 3D nei progetti di ricerca. Tale libreria GIOVE DYNAMICS offre, per lo sviluppo di software per la grafica 3D in tempo reale, una serie di funzionalità per integrare la simulazione fisica in tempo reale all'interno di un ambiente virtuale. Il modulo GIOVE DYNAMICS è l'ingegnerizzazione di un precedente lavoro di tesi di cui S. Mottura è stato correlatore.

Il manuale è la guida tecnica per il reperimento delle tecnologie SW e la corretta installazione dell'applicazione Shoe Customization Module, uno dei risultati del progetto.

European shoe manufacturing sector suffers a high pressure due to the eastern countries competition. Maintaining the competitiveness can appear a chess game in which western countries have to strategically find the appropriate solutions. Dorothy is a research project funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Programme under the NMP theme. It promotes a response based on the transformation of shoe industry and related business model meant to strengthen Europe's ability to compete in terms of high added value for the customer. This foreseen transformation deals with the development of tools for the design of customer driven adding value shoes and with the realization of tools for the design and reconfiguration of flexible multi-site and multi-nation production plants. Since the customer is the centre of the innovation process based on new technological approaches, this paper analyses the customer approach to the customized product and in particular impact of the Augmented Reality (AR). The Magic Mirror uses the AR (mixed of real and virtual images) for allowing the user to try-on a pair of virtual customized shoes. This new trial step implies a new purchasing path and a different approach with the product. This paper presents the Magic Mirror case study and a research made with a new questionnaire called “Flow for Presence Questionnaire” measuring the state of the user during the trial.
