COVID-19 pandemic , *DIGITAL technology , *SOCIAL semiotics , *POWER (Social sciences) , *MOTION picture editing - Abstract
During the Covid-19 pandemic, many researchers and scientists took advantage of technologies made available on the web to combat misinformation, including winning over a significant portion of the young public. From this perspective, this article analyzes the most liked and commented video on the profile of tiktoker Antonio Miranda, published during the pandemic. The objective is to analyze and discuss how the semiotic resources configured in the video contribute to the construction of meaning and the practice of popularizing science in the digital environment, through TikTok. The theoretical foundation of this study is Multimodal Social Semiotics (Burn, 2013; Hodge; Kress, 1988; Kress, 2010; van Leeuwen, 1999), which focuses on communicative social practices of creating meanings of all types, be they verbal, visual and/or sound. The most recurrent semiotic resources in filming and editing point to a powerful interaction between Antonio and the viewer, characterized by involvement, proximity, relaxation, devoid of power hierarchies, as if their worlds were familiar, similar and coinciding. Furthermore, gestures, voice and verbal language play the role of transmitting credibility, emphasizing key words and providing opportunities for fluidity and assertiveness in understanding the explanation. In this way, Antonio's video uses semiotic choices that distance him from the "ivory tower", where scientists are supposed to be located, to get closer to the street, people and their daily lives. SIGNS & symbols , *CAVE paintings , *GRAPHIC design , *DIGITAL media , *PRIMARY audience - Abstract
Graphic design and visual aesthetics are really important in the dissemination of information, where for the consumption of products or for scientific dissemination. As a result, the use of infographics in there areas, as means of explanation, or support material has become so common. Infographics are visual representation whose mission is to reach a certain target audience quick and effectively, with a self-explanatory capacity and synthesis power of information to be discussed, elucidated, or complemented. Its use in humanity is ancient and with a continuous growing, dating from prehistoric times, in cave paintings, where it was the easiest means of transmitting information to descendants and has been growing rapidly due to the evolution for digital media, being worked on in the most different societies, bringing relevant information to the perpetuation of each civilization. The purpose of this work is to present a specific methodology and its relevance in science, which despite having a focus on evolution, is still restricted to a very small audience. Excluding the other classes and consequently suffering distortions when simplified to a generalized range. Highlighting the importance of science to economics and politics, as well as human development. For this reason, based on a bibliographic review, we developed a systematic methodology, with historical surveys of relevance for the graphic development, and usability of infographics, which, based on an initial objective, outlined the construction of graphic symbols that represented fellings of relevance for post-hospitalized surgically patients. At this article, we described the synthesis script of the creational process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The report presents the activities carried out within the scope of the Project "Freedom in the knowledge society: what is my place?" contemplated in Call CNPQ/MCTI/FNDCT n. 05/2022 - SNCT 2022. The action, linked to the Tangram Research Group of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), aimed to carry out pedagogical activities involving school communities in three cities in the extreme south of Brazil. Some participants took trolley rides along Molhes da Barra de Rio Grande, others got to know the FURG Museum Complex and all took part in guided tours of FURG's Carreiros Campus. In all activities, interventions were proposed to promote reflection on issues related to belonging, the importance, evolution, and valuation of technologies. In all, 300 participants were included, including teachers and students from schools in the municipal and state public school networks in the cities of Rio Grande, São José do Norte and Santa Vitória do Palmar, making it possible to constitute a space for reflection through the creation of a collaborative network between university-school-community of the region. SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *DIGITAL technology , *SOCIAL semiotics , *COVID-19 pandemic , *DIGITAL literacy - Abstract
During the coronavirus pandemic, social media has played an important role in combating misinformation. It was also during this period that Brazil became the third TikTok consumer market in the world. In this panorama, the profile Fatos Curiosos com Antonio Miranda stands out, created in 2020 by student and tiktoker Antonio Miranda. Currently with 1.6 million followers and 13.5 million likes, the young man transmits scientific knowledge in a light and creative way in his videos. In this article, is investigated how the sound aspects instantiated in the most liked and commented video on Antonio's profile contribute to communicating, in a clear and accessible way, supposedly complex content, for the purposes of popularizing science in the digital environment. To this end, the theoretical-methodological framework proposed is that of Multimodal Social Semiotics, with regard to the qualities of sound and voice (VAN LEEUWEN, 1999). The main results found demonstrate that the sound resources instantiated in the vignette contribute to building an atmosphere of humor, lightness and relaxation; while the qualities of the voice fulfill the role of transmitting credibility, emphasizing key words and providing fluidity in understanding the explanation given by Antonio Miranda. Abstract: This article proposes to reflect, in the light of Digital Humanities, on the influence of post-truth on the credibility crisis of science. The objective is to identify the role of scientific divulgation in the recovery of science’s credibility and combat post-truth and the possibilities of using social networks for scientific divulgation by public universities. When defining itself as descriptive, the research seeks to accomplish an analysis of the benefits and contributions that can result in the contextualization of the problem with the field of knowledge regarding the Digital Humanities. The results showed that scientific divulgation through social networks contributes to combating the effects of post-truth culture and, consequently, recovering the credibility of science. Finally, it was concluded that the protagonists actors in the promotion of scientific divulgation strategies are public universities, because they have the democratization of access to knowledge as a social commitment.

Digital twining of cultural heritage ,hologram technology ,scientific divulgation ,dissemination - Diocesan Museum Palazzo Orsini of Pitigliano (GR) ,thema EDItEUR::U Computing and Information Technology - Abstract
The work shows a process that starts from the digitization of cultural heritage and through analysis arrives at the subsequent diachronic holographic representation. The object of the study was the creation of two holograms of historical buildings: the church of St. Maria in Sovana with an interesting subsoil and the ruin of church of St. Francesco, attributed to Sangallo il Giovane in Pitigliano. However, the theoretical setting of the research is placed at due distance from the twin term. It has implications and meaning that are not matched by producing a digital copy, even a very high resolution one. The use of different cognitive technologies and the assembly of the various inputs in a digital model can never be defined as a twin of the original. Bearing in mind what has just been specified, the work was organized according to different levels of acquisition of cognitive data. Obtained from the survey and from historical studies the shape of the original state, a historical narrative interweaving of digital models has been created. The hologram is a three-dimensional and dynamic representation, which in the case of the church of San Francesco shows the reconstruction of the ancient architectural complex, visualizing the evolution of the studies of historical documents, up to the vision of today's ruin. For the church of S. Maria, the underground area is reconstructed through the geoelectric analysis of the subsoil and of the urban composition. Use of high detection technologies (GPR and HVNSR). The holographic of the artifact, promotes scientific divulgation and its dissemination sharing experience, it is not realized through device indeed, but thanks a holographic display

- Abstract
Scientific dissemination enables the popularization of knowledge produced in the scientific community, promoting access to information. Added to this is the increase in the consumption of video and audio streaming services, a strategy that can help in the dissemination of Information Science. This study proposes a reflection on scientific dissemination through podcasts, observing the use of this tool, as well as its democratic and accessible character. It aims to map podcast channels on Spotify, which deal with Information Science and related topics (Library Science, Archival Science and Museology), at the national level, highlighting the advantages of using these channels and the content covered. It comprises research of a basic nature, with a qualitative approach, descriptive in terms of objectives, bibliographical and survey in terms of means. A total of 24 podcasts were retrieved, focused on Information Science, which deal with the labor market; information professional profile; social role of Information Science; social movements; contemporary trends; class movements and entities; pop and nerd culture; information literacy; personal and professional development; information units; pandemic and coronavirus. Finally, it highlights the adoption of podcasts as an important strategy for scientific dissemination in that area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article followed the following question: how does Recife Botanical Garden (RBG) use Instagram to communicate with its audience? Thus, the general objective of the work was to investigate how the use of social media Instagram by the RBG team is evidenced. The research adopted a primarily qualitative approach, although it used some percentage data to clarify trends, but nothing that implied the use of sophisticated statistical treatment. It also used the netnographic methodological proposal. A qualitative mapping of the content of RBG 's Instagram posts was carried out, from November 24, 2016, to March 15, 2020, when 766 posts and 25,400 followers were counted. All steps were organized, with their respective descriptions, likes, comments and captions. The mapping of RBG posts on Instagram was carried out considering the criteria described by Jarreau, Dahmen and Jones. The analyzes carried out in the present investigation showed that mediation was little observed. However, it should be clarified that this lack of mediation is not exclusive to RBG, they are common difficulties presented by similar institutions. The lack of greater interaction with the public, failing to generate feedback, can be considered a gap in communication. The mediation channel could interact even after the physical or digital visit. It was possible to notice little presence of the human element in the posts. It was noticed that, apparently, the level of engagement presents in the interaction between RBG and its audience through Instagram can improve and reach levels more suited to its institutional mission. In the final considerations, opportunities for improvement in the interaction between JBR and its visiting public are indicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The MíDIVulga project, by @lab.midi, aims to produce scientific dissemination videos with a language adapted to social media. From August 2020 to March 2022, 68 videos were produced, based on scientific articles published in journals and books, in two sections, Amazon and Humanities. Until August 2021, the videos had a longer format, from 3 to 5 minutes, and addressed the texts more fully. Since then, script, video format and size and editing have been adapted to Reels, new to Instagram. The productions were now one minute long and recorded vertically, with the script covering the introduction, result and conclusion of the articles. With this change, the average views per video went from 350 to over 2,000. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present paper, we present the results of a research that aimed to identify experimental activities, related to the concepts of Physics from the Science Today for Children magazine (Ciência Hoje das Crianças (CHC), in Portuguese), which can raise epistemological obstacles. The Bachelardian theoretical contribution was adopted due to its potential to raise critical reflections for analyzing materials that publish information about Science. Thus, based on the content analysis methodology, the experimental activities of CHC from 2009 to 2020 were analyzed. The results show that 20 can raise epistemological obstacles from 66 experimental proposals of Physics from CHC magazine. The most identified epistemological obstacle was the verbal obstacle, and the one with the lowest frequency was realistic. The quantitative and pragmatic obstacles were not found in the experimental activities analyzed. The results show that such activities need the teacher's intervention to both identify and overcome the epistemological obstacles, so its realization can be enhanced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RESEARCH parks , *FIELD research , *STUDENT projects , *SOCIAL skills , *INFORMATION sharing - Abstract
This work discusses the dissemination and popularization of science in the Science Parks of Diamantina, Teófilo Otoni and the Science Center of Juiz de Fora. In this work, it is initially presented the panorama of the listed parks, their social function in educational processes, still observing their specificities. Through field research, the main characteristics and activities developed by teachers and the experiences of students participating in the projects are presented. The research results reveal that the three study sites have the objective of propagating science in an extensionist way to the internal community of the institutions that are inserted and to the general public, including children, youth and adults. Through scientific experiments carried out in a dynamic and easy-to-understand manner, the spaces are characterized as easily accessible environments and allow contact with science for an audience that would often not have this option. Therefore, it is concluded that these spaces are important for the exchange of knowledge, especially with regard to the contribution of activities developed for education and the popularization of science and technology [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SARS-CoV-2 , *COVID-19 pandemic , *GEOMETRIC series , *MATHEMATICAL models , *DIFFERENTIAL equations - Abstract
In this work, the COVID-19 curve disclosed by the media is explored through the tools of scientific dissemination. The motivation for this exploration is the recognition of the public's difficulty in interpreting the graph of the new coronavirus pandemic. The target audience for the presentation of the curve is made up of those who know only one potentiation operation, a geometric progression and an exponential function, but who have no notions of differential equations. Before exploring the COVID-19 curve, the text begins by introducing the concept of a mathematical model. The differential equations involved in mathematical models will not be made explicit, but will be written in terms of hypotheses. The calculation of the solutions of non-comprehensive equations, but as consequences of the hypotheses, will be exposed through arguments. Then, the article shows a mathematical model to describe the development of COVID-19, the SIR, acronym for susceptible-infected-recovered. The SIR model requires a dynamic where the susceptible (S) can become infected (I) and the latter, recovered (R). The work shows how the SIR model is a base of the COVID-19 curve, where the number of infected people grow and develop. Although the SIR model does not directly predict deaths, the estimate of the latter amount is made based on the number of infected people per day. The article discusses how the SIR model is close to the observed data, despite all its limitations. The conclusion of the article is that the assumptions and general changes of the SIR model can be explained to an audience that does not master advanced mathematics, but the estimated death values and the duration of the pandemic scheduled for planning measures against the pandemic no qualitative explanations can be found. SCIENTIFIC literacy , *COMMUNICATION policy , *PUBLIC communication , *FAKE news , *COVID-19 pandemic , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges - Abstract
In this article, two important challenges for universities are described and analyzed in terms of their role in promoting and fostering scientific dissemination and literacy, especially in crisis situations such as the one caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Given the scenario of proliferation of false news and sensationalism, the most immediate of these is to inform, that is, to share with society credible information of public interest and utility, based on scientific evidence. For this, it is necessary to make the technical language of science and research more accessible, as well as to use social media strategically. The second challenge is to implement public communication actions and policies in higher education institutions (HEIs) that integrate their different communications (administrative, organizational, institutional, scientific). The article develops in three parts: it is based, according to Boaventura de Sousa Santos (2005), the context of delegitimization of universities, whose ideological fundamentalism identifies in these institutions expensive spaces, of confusion and without return for society; then the informational challenge of scientific literacy is discussed; and, finally, the communicational contours of Brazilian universities and their structural dilemmas are presented. - Abstract
Thirty-five years have passed from Blade Runner (Scott, 1982) to its sequel (Blade Runner 2049, Villeneuve, 2017) and this gives us the opportunity to see to what extent changes in our culture have modified the discourse of one of the best science fiction films that with greater emphasis represented the fear of the adverse effects of progress. From a sociological perspective, the comparative analysis carried out between the two films shows that the apocalyptic alarmism, characteristic of the genre during most of the past century, has given place to a more lucid and complete vision of the risks, possibilities and dilemmas that awakens the techno-scientific advance and establishes the science-fiction genre as a valuable resource for its reflection and dissemination.

Objectives: this study presents a bibliometric analysis carried out after incorporating all the articles of the journal Comunicar in the free database Wikidata. It's a collaboratively edited knowledge base owned by the Wikimedia Foundation, the same organization that provides the cooperative online encyclopedia Wikipedia. After carrying out a thorough analysis of the publications, the objective is to analyze the scientific production of the journal Comunicar over its 27 years of existence (1993- 2020), applying various bibliometric indicators and using a free database that any user can access. Methodology: of a descriptive-retrospective nature, this research analyzed the 62 issues and 1230 articles published in the journal, which were added to the open database Wikidata. Bibliometric indicators of scientific productivity, collaboration, consumption, repercussion and impact were considered, using various free tools to study the information. Results: remarkable differences were found between two different periods. In the first one, from its foundation until 2009, not all articles included references. The average number of references was not very high, and there was a relatively low collaboration rate. This work has made visible the change experienced by the journal Comunicar from 2010 when it started to appear in the main databases of scientific journals. After carrying out all the analyses, it has been found that the introduction of open bibliographic information can be helpful for bibliometric analysis, with free access to any user. In the State University of Ponta Grossa is a reference institution in Paleontology in the State of Paraná, for being located on top of fossiliferous terrains of the Devonian and, mainly, by the tradition in research in this area since 1969. In 2020, the Museum of Natural Sciences (MCN) was created on the UEPG campus with the proposal to enhance the scientific collections of regional and state geodiversity and biodiversity. Among the material on display in this space, there is a set of fossils representative of the Paraná paleontology with didactic potential and also for tourist visitation. The MCN has the support of research laboratories and their researchers to advance in the communication of science and, in the case of fossils, the Laboratory of Paleontology and Stratigraphy of the Department of Geosciences supports the curatorship and scientific investigation of the museum. The MCN concentrates on the most representative fossils of the region, culturally valuing the university collection and bringing to the public the results of decades of academic research, usually not accessible to the community. This paper presents the characteristics of this paleontological collection.

- Abstract
Biotechnology refers to any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or their derivatives to manufacture or modify products and processes for human use. The present experience report portrays the extension project "Diffusing Biotechnology in society", which aimed to work with High School students at Centro Educacional Colares Moreira (Codó-MA, Brazil), covering contents widely disseminated by the media and minimally understood by society, such as cloning, gene therapy, paternity tests, transgenic organisms and use of genetic information for the prevention of genetic diseases. The project was divided into four stages: Stage 1: Conducting a diagnostic evaluation with High School students; Stage 2: Cycle of lectures; Stage 3: Developing two workshops addressing transgenic organisms and cloning. Stage 4: Discussion about Bioethics related to Biotechnology. Most of the participating students were unaware of the importance of Biotechnology and its application in society. In the diagnostic evaluation, of the 103 students, only 34% could inform at least one importance of Biotechnology; 44% were in favor of transgenics, and only 6% had heard of gene therapy and knew about DNA testing. With the new coronavirus pandemic, the project execution continued remotely, but there was a significant dropout over the months. However, it is noteworthy that, for the minority that managed to monitor the project remotely, there was great interest and a better understanding of the theme. With the development of activities, the importance of university extension was observed as a formative action and transforming social practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Access to scientific dissemination in museums and science centers for people with and without disabilities represents the social and cultural democratization of these spaces, therefore, it is necessary to broaden the discussion about accessibility and inclusion in these environments. The purpose of this article is to verify the target audience and accessibility strategies or resources in museums and science centers, in the context of research in the form of theses and dissertations defended between 2010 and 2019 and deposited in the CAPES Theses and Dissertations Catalog, as well as knowing the relationship between accessibility and inclusion established by the authors of the analyzed works. A qualitative research was carried out whose search in the referred catalog was based on the following descriptors: "Science Museum", "Science Museums", "Science Centers", separately, and the terms "Accessibility" AND "Museum", "Accessibility" AND "Museums" and "Accessibility" AND "Science Centers". In all, 12 works were selected, being 8 dissertations and 4 theses. Through a content analysis, the treated data showed that deafness, visual and intellectual disabilities, as well as disability in general, were the focus of the work's approach. Several accessibility strategies were used, such as the use of multisensory resources that involved the visual, auditory, tactile, and taste senses, among others. It can be inferred that the concepts of accessibility and inclusion, despite having specificities between them, have a relationship of interdependence, as they arise from the political movement of people with disabilities, which demands the elimination of the various barriers that hinder access and participation of people with disabilities in all social spheres. POLITICAL science , *RADICALISM , *SCIENTIFIC communication , *POLITICAL sociology , *SCIENTIFIC language , *CONSPIRACY theories - Abstract
This article explores how contemporary media culture reflects some of the socio-cultural and sociopolitical changes that occur in the context of the pandemic. On the one hand, the intention is to analyse the constant presence of some representatives of scientific culture within the info-communicational scenario, on the other hand, the upsurge of ideological extremism and conspiracy narratives is observed. Exploring a set of case studies, we intend to reflect on the cultural and political implications challenged by these two opposing dimensions present in the media landscape. The introduction of the scientific approach and language in the media agenda, in a scenario of a health emergency, is seen as a promise of a more humanized science, whose aim is to bring together experts and laypeople. However, at the same time, the risks arising from a possible politicization of scientific discourses are highlighted. The ideological violence that supports the infodemia is, in turn, analysed as something that should not be thought of only as a problem of ignorance or illiteracy (generating fake knowledge), but as a form of revolt oriented towards social destabilization, the refutation of rules of the democratic game and traditional legal-political formulas. The urgent problem is not the presence of conspiracy theories, but the will to believe them and make them the object of hate campaigns. In this sense, communication sciences are challenged to collaborate in a more integrated way with political science and the sociology of science. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The present article is a product of a Master's Degree in Education developed in the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro. At the time we figured that the scientific education of individuals from a specific society shouldn't be subjugated only to the educational and non-formal environment. We believe that all members of a society, in its diversity of spaces and times, should contribute to education promotion. Also, we consider that science is a place where cultural products, material and symbolic, are built. Some of these symbolic products can be conceptions on what, who and how science is made. We understand that these conceptions are promoted by and in society through some social actors that should promote the above-mentioned scientific education. Therefore, we consider relevant investigating how science is presented in the digital version of a popular science magazine that has youngsters as their audience in Brazil, SuperInteressante, between 2010 and 2019. We outlined our research to the articles that had Cosmology as their main subject because we see it as curious by the audience and with low approaches in Brazilian classrooms. The analysis on the articles was qualitative, made through Textual Discourse Analysis. We consider 5 fundamental elements to understand how science is presented in this magazine. These elements are our main categories: (i) scientific knowledge, (ii) scientific work, (iii) the scientist, (iv) scientific development and (v) its influences. We found trustworthy presentations about science, but also fancy or even fictional conceptions. We discussed and concluded about the influences that these presentations may impact society and their audience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work aims to report the experience of an extensionist action of the National Week of Science and Technology focused on teaching Neurosciences to children and adolescents. To this end, material and artistic practices inspired by the book Caçadores de neuromitos KIDS: em busca da verdade sobre o cérebro were used at two booths, which were visited by 375 people. At the end of the activities, visitors gave their opinion about the activities through emoticons in a five-point Likert scale (I hated it, I didn't like it, indifferent, I liked it, I liked it a lot). More than 90% of the respondents reported "I liked it a lot" in both booths. The monitors noticed the engagement of participants by asking questions and smiling, showing interest in the proposed activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The analysis here presented seeks to bring forth the recent trajectory of a group of researchers who have dedicated themselves to the systematic study of Ibero-American Education. Although hundreds of research papers are being written on the same theme, the research group Cervantes was born, in 2006, due to the cooperation agreement between the Sao Paulo State University and the University of Alcalá de Henares, in order to offer a knowledge exchange between the two institutions. The impacts of new technologies and the growth of the group caused an intense change in the dynamics of the participants' performance and in the way, researchers started to produce and disseminate the scientific contributions elaborated. As of 2012, the internationalization actions were strengthened: other Latin American universities joined the group and there was a profound restructuring of the Ibero- American Journal of Education Studies. In 2014, all intellectual production was made available in digital format. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and objective. The use of social media to spread knowledge about Plastic Surgery, especially regarding academic issues, is still in its infancy. Recent studies have shown that the hashtag #PlasticSurgery has been used to spread knowledge and leadership in our specialty. However, the influence of national and international meetings in this regard has not been studied, a topic that we propose to study in this article. Methods. A retrospective analysis of tweets published in Spanish containing the words "CirugiaPlastica" or the hashtag #CirugiaPlastica was performed, comparing 5 groups: 1. Working days control group (non-coincident with Plastic Surgery meetings); 2. Weekend control group (non-coincident with Plastic Surgery meetings); 3. Iberolatinoamericano Meeting Group; 4. SECPRE (Spanish Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association) Monographic Meeting Group; 5. AECEP (Spanish Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Association) meeting group. The following variables were analyzed, among several others: author identity, tweet topic, hashtag #CirugiaPlastica use, educative or promotional finality and the availability of the digital link to a journal article. Results. A total of 1165 tweets were analyzed. Tweets written by plastic surgeons, academic institutions and scientific societies were 13.44% in the control groups compared to 18.52% in the meeting groups (p-value = 0.02). The presence of a national or international meeting did not increase significantly the number of educational tweets nor the links to scientific articles (p-value >0.05). Conclusions. Analyzed meetings did not show a statistically significant repercussion on the educational content of tweets. Social media should be encouraged during these meetings to spread knowledge and to increase the repercussion of our specialty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
