ABSTRACT The antisocial and aggressive behaviour in childhood and adolescence combined with psychopathic traits has been connected to a more severe and chronic trajectory of antisocial behaviour including criminality. Latest research has shown that compassion-focused therapy (CFT) adapted to young offenders with psychopathic traits is an effective treatment. Also, virtual reality (VR) is a new promising treatment tool in forensic settings. In our CFT+VR study project, we combined CFT with VR in treating adolescents with severe antisocial behaviour and psychopathy. The aim of this case study was to deepen our understanding of the therapy process of one adolescent in the CFT+VR intervention and to test its efficacy on his psychopathic traits. The participant was a 19-year-old boy with a background of antisocial behaviour, detained in a closed prison in Finland. He filled out the Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory Short Version at three measurement points: pre-treatment (T0), after the 10th CFT meeting (T1), after the last meeting (T2). In contemporary manufacturing industries, composite materials such as carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) have become indispensable, finding extensive applications in aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, high-tech sports equipment, and more. The exceptional chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of CFRPs, including high corrosion resistance, superior strength-to-weight ratio, high fatigue strength, and oxidation resistance, make them highly sought after. However, these very advantages pose significant challenges during machining due to the abrasive nature of composites, anisotropic mechanical properties, and poor thermal conductivity, which collectively exacerbate tool wear. This review paper addresses the critical need for innovative solutions to improve the machinability of CFRPs, a subject of paramount importance for advancing manufacturing efficiency and product quality. It comprehensively examines the latest research progress, current practices, and emerging trends in machining techniques such as turning, drilling (including reaming and countersinking), milling and grinding. The review delves into the influence of various cutting conditions, environments, and tool geometries. It also examines tool textures, materials, and coatings. Additionally, advanced machining methods, including vibration, thermal, and hybrid-assisted machining, are discussed. These factors impact key performance metrics such as cutting forces and torques, tool wear and life, chip morphology, surface roughness, and the quality of machined surfaces, including defect analysis. By synthesizing a vast array of literature for the first time, this paper highlights the most effective strategies to enhance machinability while extending tool life and improving surface finish. Notably, it underscores the innovative use of dry and flood lubrication, minimum quantity lubrication, cryogenic lubrication, and high-pressure cooling. Additionally, it emphasizes optimizing cutting tool geometry, employing diamond tools, and coating tools with TiN and TiAlN, alongside the application of heat treatment and hybrid machining methods, particularly those incorporating vibration machining techniques. This review not only identifies the current challenges but also proposes cutting-edge solutions, making it an essential resource for researchers and practitioners aiming to push the boundaries of CFRP machining technology.

The standard molar enthalpies of formation in the liquid phase for ethyl (E)-cinnamate and ethyl hydrocinnamate, two cinnamate derivatives with notable flavor and fragrance characteristics, were determined experimentally using combustion calorimetry in an oxygen atmosphere. To derive the gas-phase enthalpies of formation for these derivatives, their enthalpies of vaporization were measured using a high-temperature Calvet microcalorimeter and the vacuum drop microcalorimetric technique. Additionally, a computational analysis employing the G3(MP2)//B3LYP composite method was conducted to calculate the gas-phase standard enthalpies of formation at T = 298.15 K for both compounds. These findings enabled a detailed assessment and analysis of the structural and energetic effects of the vinyl and ethane moieties between the phenyl and carboxylic groups in the studied compounds. Considering the structural features of ethyl (E)-cinnamate and ethyl hydrocinnamate, a gas-phase enthalpy of hydrogenation analysis was conducted to explore their energetic profiles more thoroughly.

Abstract Background Nuts consumption is related to cardioprotective effects on primary cardiovascular prevention, but studies conducted in secondary prevention are small, scarce and controversial. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effects of a regional and sustainable cardioprotective diet added or not with an affordable mixed nuts on cardiometabolic features in patients with previous myocardial infarction. Methods DICA-NUTS study is a national, multi-center, and superiority-parallel randomized clinical trial. Males and females over 40 years old diagnosed with previous myocardial infarction in the last 2 to 6 months were included. Patients were allocated into two groups: the Brazilian Cardioprotective diet (DICA Br) supplemented with 30 g/day of mixed nuts (10 g of peanuts; 10 g of cashew; 10 g of Brazil nuts) (intervention group, n = 193); or only DICA Br prescription (control group, n = 195). The primary outcome was low-density lipoprotein cholesterol means (in mg/dL) after 16 weeks. Secondary outcomes were other lipid biomarkers, glycemic and anthropometric data and diet quality. Results After adjustment for baseline values, participating study site, time since myocardial infarction and statin treatment regimen (high potency, moderate and low potency/no statins), no significant difference was found between the groups in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations (intervention-control difference: 3.48 mg/dL [-3.45 to 10.41], P = 0.32). Both groups improved their overall diet quality at the end of the study without differences between them after 16 weeks (intervention-control difference: 1.05 (-0.9 to 2.99); P = 0.29). Other lipids, glycemic profile and anthropometrics were also not different between study groups at the end of the study. Conclusion Adding 30 g/day of mixed nuts to the DICA Br for 16 weeks did not change lipid, glycemic and anthropometric features in the post-myocardial infarction setting. RESUMO A partir do Contra Iudices, poema composto por Teodulfo de Orleães no fim do século VIII, este texto se propõe a: i) mapear as práticas consideradas corruptas denunciadas por Teodulfo, levando em consideração também os sujeitos envolvidos, uma vez que falamos de corruptores e corrompidos; ii) levantar o vocabulário empregado para descrever esta corrupção; e iii) tendo em mente questões de autoria, gênero documental e público-alvo, levantar hipóteses dos motivos que levaram Teodulfo a redigir seu poema naquele momento. Parece-me que somente a associação dos valores cristãos à ação dos agentes públicos, como apontada por parte da historiografia, é insuficiente para descrever a preocupação do bispo de Orleães com a correta aplicação da justiça. É possível imaginar que a condenação da corrupção, pelos argumentos trazidos pelo poema, desdobra-se também em outras questões, como a econômica e a política.

Abstract The aim of the study was to characterize the microbiological activity of the soil and its relationship with soil attributes in a toposequence under different vegetation covers at the UFRRJ Botanical Garden. Soil samples were collected from the surface layer of the shoulder, backslope and footslope. These show little variation in slope, but have different vegetation cover. The shoulder and footslope are covered by tree species from different botanical families, and the middle third by grasses. The tree species (shoulder) and the grasses (backslope) showed higher values of microbial biomass carbon, soil enzyme activity, sporulation and species richness of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. The correlations found suggest the effect of chemical and physical attributes, especially the lower levels of P and coarse sand, on the increase in these soil microbiological attributes. Greater deposition of glomalin-related soil protein was observed in areas with tree species, with correlations with pH and TOC.

Os terpenos são uma matéria-prima natural e sustentável utilizada na indústria de química fina, permitindo a produção de aromas e fragrâncias de interesse para a sociedade. Dentre os inúmeros terpenos identificados, o mirceno é um importante intermediário para a produção comercial de álcoois terpênicos, como o geraniol e o nerol, além de compostos aromatizantes como o citral e o mentol, bem como na síntese das vitaminas A e E. O mirceno pode ser sintetizado a partir do b-pineno, o qual é obtido por destilação da terebintina. Dessa forma, este estudo avaliou a eficiência do uso de catalisador de cobre na síntese do mirceno a partir da isomerização térmica do b-pineno. Os ensaios foram realizados em uma unidade de pirólise de bancada, com a temperatura do forno mantida em 500 oC e a temperatura no interior do reator variando entre 280 oC e 540 oC, obtida pela variação da vazão de alimentação (1,27 × 10-4 mL.ms-1 a 2,52 × 10-4 mL.ms-1) do b-pineno. Comparou-se a produção de mirceno na presença e ausência de catalisador de cobre, o qual foi mantido fixo no reator tubular. Os resultados da cinética da reação mostraram que a energia de a ativação não se altera com o uso do catalisador, mas este aumentou o fator pré-exponencial em aproximadamente 30%. Após a validação da rota proposta para a síntese do mirceno e da cinética das reações envolvidas, essa foi simulada em reatores do tipo plug flow reactor (PFR) e packed bed reactor (PBR), verificando-se um aumento de 6,1%, 9,1% e 10,5% na produção de mirceno para temperaturas de reação de 450 oC, 475 oC e 500 oC, respectivamente, para o PBR. O uso do catalisador também minimizou a formação de subprodutos em temperaturas superioras a 475 oC.

As crianças possuem uma série de direitos conquistados a partir da mudança na concepção da infância como um período especial da vida e pelo reconhecimento que crianças estão em situação peculiar de desenvolvimento e são titulares de direitos. No Brasil, identificam-se avanços legislativos com a aprovação do Marco Legal da Primeira Infância em 2016, desencadeando mudanças nas políticas públicas de atenção às crianças de zero a seis anos. Apesar dos avanços, a primeira infância ainda é marcada por situações de violência. O objetivo desse estudo é caracterizar as produções científicas brasileiras da área da Psicologia sobre a violência na primeira infância, publicadas no período de 2016 a 2023. Realizou-se uma revisão de escopo (Rocco, 2017) e análise temática dos dados Braun e Clarke (2006). Os resultados apontaram que o fenômeno da violência contra a primeira infância é complexo e, por suas características, exigem uma análise que interseccionalize gênero, raça, etnia e classe para que se possa compreender as estratégias de precarização do Sistema de Garantia de Direitos em termos de esgarçamento da infraestrutura dos serviços, ausência de condições adequadas de trabalho da equipe de trabalhadoras/es e prevalência de violências em crianças de grupos sociais vulnerabilizados. Concluiu-se que as políticas públicas voltadas para a primeira infância precisam considerar em sua complexidade os processos de desenvolvimento possibilitados em uma sociedade desigual e diversa.

O presente artigo investiga criticamente o lugar do Ensino da Filosofia a partir do cotidiano dos docentes da Rede Estadual de Alagoas. Relaciona os recuos e limites impostos ao Ensino da Filosofia na escola secundária no período de implementação das mudanças inauguradas pela Base Nacional Comum Curricular - BNCC. A metodologia utilizada é a pesquisa bibliográfica e a análise de conteúdo (BARDIN, 2010). Busca estabelecer nexos entre os relatos oferecidos nas entrevistas dos denominados professores-filósofos com os autores que se ocupam pela formação cidadã dos jovens escolarizados no Brasil. Os indicadores resultantes dessa pesquisa demostram a preocupação quanto ao reposicionamento do espaço curricular da Filosofia frente às mudanças implementadas pelas novas regulações educacionais do ensino médio e a fragmentação dos conteúdos filosóficos consagrados em legislações anteriores como necessários à formação para a cidadania na escola.

Neuropathic pain (NP) is an ineffectively treated, debilitating chronic pain disorder that is associated with maladaptive changes in the central nervous system, particularly in the spinal cord. Murine models of NP looking at the mechanisms underlying these changes suggest an important role of microglia, the resident immune cells of the central nervous system, in various stages of disease progression. However, given the number of different NP models and the resource limitations that come with tracking longitudinal changes in NP animals, many studies fail to truly recapitulate the patterns that exist between pain conditions and temporal microglial changes. This review integrates how NP studies are being carried out in murine models and how microglia changes over time can affect pain behavior in order to inform better study design and highlight knowledge gaps in the field. 258 peer-reviewed, primary source articles looking at spinal microglia in murine models of NP were selected using Covidence. Trends in the type of mice, statistical tests, pain models, interventions, microglial markers and temporal pain behavior and microglia changes were recorded and analyzed. Studies were primarily conducted in inbred, young adult, male mice having peripheral nerve injury which highlights the lack of generalizability in the data currently being collected. Changes in microglia and pain behavior, which were both increased, were tested most commonly up to 2 weeks after pain initiation despite aberrant microglia activity also being recorded at later time points in NP conditions. Studies using treatments that decrease microglia show decreased pain behavior primarily at the 1- and 2-week time point with many studies not recording pain behavior despite the involvement of spinal microglia dysfunction in their development. These results show the need for not only studying spinal microglia dynamics in a variety of NP conditions at longer time points but also for better clinically relevant study design considerations.

The urgency surrounding Candida auris as a public health threat is highlighted by both the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) that categorized this species as a priority fungal pathogen. Given the current limitations of antifungal therapy for C. auris, particularly due to its multiple resistance to the current antifungals, the identification of new drugs is of paramount importance. Some alkaloids abundant in the venom of the red invasive fire ant (Solenopsis invicta), known as solenopsins, have garnered attention as potent inhibitors of bacterial biofilms, and there are no studies demonstrating such effects against fungal pathogens. Thus, we herein investigated the antibiotic efficacy of solenopsin alkaloids against C. auris biofilms and planktonic cells. Both natural and synthetic solenopsins inhibited the growth of C. auris strains from different clades, including fluconazole and amphotericin B-resistant isolates. Such alkaloids also inhibited matrix deposition and altered cellular metabolic activity of C. auris in biofilm conditions. Mechanistically, the alkaloids compromised membrane integrity as measured by propidium iodide uptake in exposed planktonic cells. Additionally, combining the alkaloids with AMB yielded an additive antifungal effect, even against AMB-resistant strains. Finally, both extracted solenopsins and the synthetic analogues demonstrated protective effect in vivo against C. auris infection in the invertebrate model Galleria mellonella. These findings underscore the potent antifungal activities of solenopsins against C. auris and suggest their inclusion in future drug development. Furthermore, exploring derivatives of solenopsins could reveal novel compounds with therapeutic promise.

RESUMO Introdução: A cobrança de desempenho, o culto à performance, o tecnicismo, entre outras, são derivadas do produtivismo capitalista e suas lógicas. As pessoas que integram o ambiente acadêmico estão imersas nesses processos marcados por essa derivação. Dessa forma, surgem intervenções não terapêuticas, farmacológicas ou não, sobre o funcionamento cerebral, ampliando a performance de funções/habilidades/capacidades cognitivas a um nível mais elevado para além da média de funcionamento. Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivos examinar o uso de estratégias de aprimoramento cognitivo entre estudantes de Medicina e avaliar seus efeitos na saúde mental e no desempenho acadêmico, de modo a identificar intervenções potenciais para otimizar o bem-estar estudantil e o processo educativo. Método: Trata-se de uma pesquisa de campo, de abordagem qualitativa. Para o levantamento de dados, foram efetuadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com estudantes do curso de Medicina. Para a análise dos dados, empreendeu-se a técnica da análise construtivo-interpretativa. Resultado: Os dados mostraram que os estudantes universitários buscam estratégias adaptativas para se manterem produtivos na universidade, mesmo que precisem enfrentar consequências, nem sempre previsíveis, desses mecanismos. Buscar alternativas para se manterem produtivos está vinculado à autoestima do estudante, o que impacta também a sua relação com os outros estudantes e com os seus docentes. Conclusão: Revela-se que estudantes de Medicina recorrem a estratégias de aprimoramento cognitivo, como o consumo de energéticos e cafeína, para que possam enfrentar as rigorosas demandas acadêmicas. Embora tais práticas possam inicialmente parecer benéficas ao incrementarem o desempenho e a produtividade, elas estão intrinsecamente ligadas a efeitos adversos significativos sobre a saúde mental dos alunos, incluindo aumento do estresse, ansiedade e dependência.

Due to the lack of irrigation management techniques, the application of water in forest nurseries is generally carried out without control, resulting in great waste. This study aimed to develop and evaluate weighing mini-lysimeters (ML) to automate the irrigation system and determine the water demand and evaluation of the initial tree species seedling growth. The structure was built out of wood to fit a tray of 54 tubes measuring 280 cm³. It was equipped with a load cell with a nominal capacity of 10 kg, located in the center of the structure. The mass variations of the set were recorded on a micro SD card using an Arduino Mega board, which allowed for the automated irrigation management system through an algorithm. Two MLs were built, determining the water demand of Dalbergia nigra (DN) and Enterolobium contortisiliquum (EC) seedlings in the initial growth phase. After calibration, the MLs presented an absolute error and mean squared error below 1% of the total mass, allowing effective irrigation control. During the evaluation period, 1.47 L seedling-1 of DN and 1.45 L seedling-1 of EC were applied, reaching 89 days after emergence, height and stem diameter of 39.2 cm and 3.4 mm, and 19.3 cm and 4.6 mm, respectively. The weighing mini-lysimeters developed demonstrated the ability to automate the irrigation of tree species seedlings, reducing the amount of water applied in forest nurseries.

[Objective] This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of essential oil (EO) from diverse chemotypes of Lippia graveolens against oxytetracycline-resistant Aeromonas hydrophila, which primarily affects the tilapia aquaculture (O. niloticus) in Guatemala. [Methodology] L. graveolens were collected in three departments in Guatemala. The EO was obtained by hydrodistillation and characterized using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Subsequently, an antimicrobial assay was conducted using disk and dilution susceptibility tests and evaluation of synergistic interactions among the chemotypes. Each test was performed in triplicate. [Results] The analysis revealed the presence of twenty-seven compounds in the EO obtained from the chemotypes, with the main class being monoterpenes. The major constituents identified were cis-Dihydro-β-terpineol (8.84%) in chemotype I, carvacrol (51.82%) in chemotype II, and thymol (79.62%) in chemotype III. All EO chemotypes of L. graveolens demonstrated the ability to inhibit the A. hydrophila growth. Thymol chemotype exhibited the strongest inhibitory effect against bacterial growth, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 92.4 µg/mL and a minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 184.8 µg/mL. Furthermore, the results suggest that there is no synergistic or additive effect when combining different chemotypes of L. graveolens. [Conclusions] This is the first report of L. graveolens chemotypes exhibiting antimicrobial activity against oxytetracycline-resistant A. hydrophila. The findings suggest that the chemotype thymol could be a potential treatment for infections in the tilapia aquaculture in Guatemala.

While direct logistics optimization is a common practice, reverse logistics management is frequently neglected. This study explores how reverse logistics configurations affect the environmental sustainability of global supply chains in the fashion industry. The paper addresses the gap in the literature regarding carbon footprint of hybrid configurations for return flows. A case study is conducted in an Italian luxury fashion company with global operations, and we use supply chain simulation to assess sustainability-focused network design alternatives. The findings reveal that decentralizing specific operations significantly reduces carbon footprint without compromising service levels or lead time, both critical aspects in such segment. This research emphasizes the importance of considering reverse logistics in the overall sustainability strategy of supply chains, offering practical insights for businesses seeking to balance environmental impact with operational efficiency in the fashion industry.

AbstractThe anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) processes the affective component of pain, whereas the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) is involved in its sensory-discriminative component. Injection of morphine in the ACC has been reported to be analgesic, and endogenous opioids in this area are required for pain relief. Mu opioid receptors (MORs) are expressed in both ACC and S1; however, the identity of MOR-expressing cortical neurons remains unknown. Using the Oprm1-mCherry mouse line, we performed selective patch clamp recordings of MOR+ neurons, as well as immunohistochemistry with validated neuronal markers, to determine the identity and laminar distribution of MOR+ neurons in ACC and S1. We found that the electrophysiological signatures of MOR+ neurons differ significantly between these 2 areas, with interneuron-like firing patterns more frequent in ACC. While MOR+ somatostatin interneurons are more prominent in ACC, MOR+ excitatory neurons and MOR+ parvalbumin interneurons are more prominent in S1. Our results suggest a differential contribution of MOR-mediated modulation to ACC and S1 outputs. We also found that females had a greater density of MOR+ neurons compared with males in both areas. In summary, we conclude that MOR-dependent opioidergic signaling in the cortex displays sexual dimorphisms and likely evolved to meet the distinct function of pain-processing circuits in limbic and sensory cortical areas.

Apresentamos uma pesquisa realizada no contexto brasileiro inserida no projeto “Futurando com ciência”, cujas ações desenvolvidas no ambiente escolar estavam centradas na discussão do Objetivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável 13 que discute aspectos relativos à ação climática em nível local e global. Nosso objetivo foi analisar o processo de colaboração estabelecido entre universidade e escola de Educação Básica no contexto do planejamento e desenvolvimento de ações escolares da Nova Educação de Jovens e Adultos (NEJA). Por meio do referencial teórico-metodológico da Análise Crítica do Discurso (ACD), discorremos sobre aspectos históricos, culturais, sociais e políticos das mudanças climáticas, e articulamos esta discussão com a perspectiva Ciência-Tecnologia-Sociedade (CTS), as Questões Sociocientíficas (QSC) e a educação popular no contexto da NEJA. Os resultados e as discussões consideraram falas de professores e alunos da escola básica e da universidade que são analisadas sob lentes das categorias analíticas da intertextualidade, da representação de eventos e atores sociais e da modalidade, buscando ressaltar o processo que nos levou à identificação da situação limite que surgiu na busca temática. As considerações finais destacam a potencialidade de se trabalhar as QSC e a perspectiva CTS, sobretudo ao enfatizarmos os efeitos da busca genuína pelo tema gerador, em um processo que significou o tema das mudanças climáticas na transformação dos sujeitos, sejam eles educadores ou educandos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Currently, Brazil has approximately 464 million electronic devices, referred to as “text neck.” Consequently, the alteration resulting from this term, known as “text neck syndrome,” is an emerging condition related to changes in the head and neck due to mobile devices and computers. This condition is associated with repetitive efforts linked to using these electronic devices. Objective: To conduct a literature review on the influence of “text neck” on the onset of neck pain (cervicalgia). Methodology: A systematic review was conducted following the “Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.” From October 2023 to February 2024, the descriptors “neck pain” and “text neck” were used, along with boolean operators. Eligibility criteria included observational studies with a population aged 18 to 65 diagnosed with cervicalgia. The selection process utilized Rayyan QRCI, and a methodological assessment was carried out using Risk of Bias 2.0 (RoB 2.0). Results: Four articles published between 2018 and 2022 were included in the review. After the methodological procedure, it was observed that all four articles were classified as having a low risk of bias, totaling 1,067 participants. Conclusion: Therefore, no association was identified between the use of “text neck” and the onset of neck pain. Level of Evidence I; Systematic Review.

RESUMO Neste artigo, exploramos as relações entre o desenvolvimento dos letramentos científico e histórico-geográfico e o trabalho com os gêneros orais no contexto do ensino, bem como discutimos o modo como a formação docente pode ser crucial para a mediação desse eixo do processo de ensino e aprendizagem. Para isso, analisamos como um livro didático e um material didático complementar de alfabetização e letramento usados por escolas da rede municipal de ensino de uma cidade do interior de Goiás direcionam as práticas docentes. A partir do que apresentam tais instrumentos, discutimos as ações propostas em seu interior, cujo objetivo seria a promoção da oralidade e do trabalho com os gêneros orais. Os principais autores que nos deram embasamento foram Dolz et al. (2010), Silva (2016), Costa (2016), Araújo e Rufo (2021), Tardif (2007), Libâneo (2004). Os resultados mostram a ocorrência de atividades ligadas ao eixo da oralidade direcionadas para o desenvolvimento dos letramentos em destaque em ambos os materiais de modo eficiente, porém com indicativo quantitativo muito baixo.

Este trabalho avalia comparativamente o desempenho de dois sistemas de tradução automática, a saber, DeepL e Google Tradutor. O estudo parte de uma breve visão geral sobre traduções automáticas com a utilização de redes neurais, seguido de uma reflexão sobre os resultados da tradução automática ao utilizar a avaliação automática e humana. Subsequentemente, aborda a diferença de desempenho entre ambos os sistemas, além de identificar possíveis problemas linguísticos advindos dos resultados da tradução automática gerada por eles. Para a realização dessa comparação, o trabalho emprega um trecho da obra de Machado de Assis, Dom Casmurro, do capítulo “Olhos de Ressaca”. O estudo utiliza as traduções geradas de forma automática para analisar criticamente qual sistema apresenta mais qualidade no resultado da tradução e examina comparativamente os erros linguísticos gerados pelos resultados do DeepL e Google Tradutor. Os critérios de avaliação incluem a precisão da tradução, a capacidade de manter o significado e a estrutura da frase original, a fluência e adequação da tradução resultante.

IntroductionBovine tuberculosis is one of the primary infectious diseases affecting cattle. Although several countries have managed to eradicate this zoonosis it remains endemic and uncontrolled across many countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Brazil launched its national control and eradication program in 2001, and since then, epidemiological studies have been carried out to define optimal control strategies and to enable the management of the process in each region.MethodsThis study covered the state of Pará, which was divided into three regions, in each of which a pre-established number of properties were randomly selected, and within each property, a minimum number of animals were drawn to be tested by the tuberculin test to classify the farm as infected or free of the disease. A questionnaire was administered to the selected properties to identify the risk factors for the disease.ResultsA total of 976 properties comprising 17,151 animals were tested. The prevalence of infected properties in the regions ranged from 3.1% [1.3; 4.9] to 18.6% [14.3; 22.9], while tuberculin-positive animals ranged from 0.24% [0.09; 0.40] to 4.8% [2.4; 7.3]. The introduction of cattle untested for bTB and the renting of pastures have been identified as risk factors for the disease in this state.DiscussionPará has one of the highest prevalences of bovine tuberculosis in Brazil, and the implications of these results for public health were discussed. We therefore proposed that the state’s Official Veterinary Service, together with the private dairy and meat sectors, pursue the objective of controlling or eradicating the disease, along with mechanisms to verify its effectiveness. The differences between the two objectives were discussed, but in both cases, an education program is necessary to inform cattle and buffalo breeders that they need to test animals for tuberculosis before introducing them to their farms, and also to avoid renting pastures for cattle to graze and rest while moving on foot, as these practices have contributed the most to the spread of bTB in the state.

Objetivo: realizar a adaptação transcultural do Cancer Behavior Inventory - Brief Version para o Brasil. Método: estudo metodológico, realizado de acordo com as diretrizes para estudos de confiabilidade e concordância de relatórios. A adaptação transcultural do instrumento englobou as etapas de Tradução, Síntese, Retrotradução, Revisão pelo comitê de juízes e Pré-teste. Resultados: as etapas de tradução, retrotradução e avaliação pelo comitê de juízes apresentaram poucas alterações, relacionadas principalmente à substituição de termos por sinônimos, supressão de palavras e ajustes gramaticais. No entanto, o item 5 destacou-se por ter uma concordância inferior a 80% em todas as equivalências, o que indica a necessidade de modificações. O índice de validade de conteúdo e o Kappa para este item foram inferiores aos valores recomendados (0,20 e 0,37, respectivamente), evidenciando a importância de revisões adicionais para garantir a precisão e adequação do instrumento. A versão adaptada do instrumento foi submetida a um pré-teste, no qual foram realizadas novas modificações. Conclusão: o instrumento foi adaptado à cultura brasileira de forma criteriosa, resultando em uma versão culturalmente sensível, linguisticamente precisa e que preserva a integridade do instrumento original.

RESUMO Introdução: Os métodos ativos de aprendizagem têm adquirido crescente relevância, promovendo aprimoramento das relações interpessoais e maior aproximação com a prática profissional. Este artigo tem como objetivo relatar a experiência de um grupo de estudantes dos cursos de Medicina e Enfermagem, ao empregarem o método ativo de aprendizagem da problematização para exploração da Política Nacional de Atenção Integral à Saúde da Criança (Pnaisc). Relato de experiência: A vivência envolveu 13 estudantes de Medicina e Enfermagem que, após vivências no Sistema Único de Saúde e tendo como propósito a apreensão das políticas públicas de saúde, sentiram-se motivados à elaboração de trabalho sobre a Pnaisc. O processo contemplou aprofundamento na política, por meio de artigos e manuais, seguido pela estruturação e produção do trabalho em formato de vídeo no estilo Draw my Life, incorporando ilustrações e narração simultânea. O vídeo foi exibido em plenária com todos os estudantes da série e compartilhado no YouTube, obtendo expressivo número de visualizações e comentários positivos. Discussão: A construção ativa e aprofundada do vídeo proporcionou aos estudantes compreensão significativa acerca da Pnaisc, política centrada na criança que visa articular ações e serviços de saúde nas Redes de Atenção à Saúde. Além de contribuir para compreensão desse tema crucial na formação de profissionais de saúde, o projeto estimulou o desenvolvimento de competências adicionais, incluindo busca ativa e análise crítica de dados. Conclusão: O método ativo adotado foi amplamente valorizado pelos membros do grupo de trabalho e pelos participantes da plenária como ferramenta eficaz para despertar o interesse dos estudantes no conteúdo abordado, resultando em compreensão facilitada.

Introdução/objetivos: : O gênero Rhodococcus pertence à Família Nocardiaceae, Ordem Actinomicetos. Rhodococcus hoagii é a espécie mais relacionada à infecção humana, especialmente entre hospedeiros imunossuprimidos. As infecções pulmonares são a forma mais comum de acometimento. A cavitação surge em mais de 50% dos casos e em regiões endêmicas o quadro pode se assemelhar à tuberculose (TB). O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar um caso de infecção pulmonar grave por Rhodococcus sp., em PVHIV. Apesar do aumento significativo dos casos com a epidemia de HIV, a infecção por Rhodococcus ainda é um diagnóstico pouco considerado. Materiais e métodos: Revisão de prontuário, discussão com equipe médica e revisão de literatura. Resultados: Mulher cis de 30 anos, admitida em novembro de 2023 em enfermaria de hospital de Infectologia, com quadro há 2 meses de perda ponderal, icterícia e edema de membros inferiores. A TC de tórax da admissão evidenciou consolidações associadas a escavações de permeio em lobo pulmonar direito. Feito o diagnóstico de HIV, com CV 531.000 cópias (log 5.72) e CD4 20 células (3.6%). Seguindo a investigação, o teste LF-LAM para TB veio positivo com BAAR e TRM em escarro negativo. Recebeu alta após 1 mês de internação, com prescrição de RHZE e acompanhamento ambulatorial. Em abril de 2024 retorna após perda de seguimento clínico, com quadro de dispneia, astenia e tosse produtiva há 1 mês, sendo readmitida no CTI com insuficiência respiratória e instabilidade hemodinâmica. Foi intubada e houve a necessidade de aminas em doses elevadas. Apresentou piora radiológica em TC de tórax realizada nesta admissão, com evidência de extensa consolidação em lobo pulmonar direito, novas escavações bilaterais, com a maior delas apresentando nível hidroaéreo sugestivo de abscesso. Coletadas hemoculturas, bem como baciloscopia, TRM e cultura de secreção traqueal, sendo iniciado tratamento empírico com cefepime e amicacina. Após identificação de Rhodococcus hoagii nas culturas foram prescritos claritromicina, levofloxacino e vancomicina. CONCLUSÃO Este caso destaca o caráter oportunista da infecção por bactérias do gênero Rhodococcus em indivíduos com imunossupressão grave. Em função da semelhança clínica e radiológica com infecções por agentes mais prevalentes como micobactérias e fungos, a infecção por Rhodococcus sp. acaba por ser um diagnóstico diferencial pouco considerado, merecendo a atenção dos profissionais envolvidos neste tipo de cuidado. O lançamento de efluentes têxteis sem tratamento, ou submetidos a um tratamento ineficaz, ocasiona graves problemas nos ecossistemas aquáticos. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a capacidade e o processo de remoção do corante têxtil Drimaren Red CL-7B, empregando o substrato residual da produção do cogumelo Pleurotus ostreatus. Para tanto, primeiramente elaborado um planejamento experimental 3², considerando as variáveis pH e concentração de substrato, buscando-se avaliar a remoção de corante proveniente de efluente têxtil sintético, durante seis horas de tempo de contato. As concentrações do substrato aplicado ao efluente foram 50, 100 e 150 g L-1 e os valores de pH empregados foram 5, 7 e 9. Após a determinação da melhor condição experimental dentre as avaliadas, também foram estudados os possíveis mecanismos de remoção ocorridos e a atividade enzimática do micélio presente no substrato. Verificou-se que a melhor condição operacional foi obtida com pH 5 e concentração de 150 g L-1. Sob essas condições, a eficiência de remoção de corante alcançada foi próxima de 70%. Observou-se que o principal mecanismo de remoção foi a adsorção e um tempo de contato de 30 minutos já permite obter resultados satisfatórios. Além disso, os resultados da atividade da lacase demonstraram que sua eficiência é elevada em condições de pH ácido, e que esta fica inativa em condições de pH alcalino. Concluiu-se que o substrato residual apresenta elevado potencial para o tratamento de efluentes têxteis em decorrência da ação simultânea das enzimas lignolíticas e da adsorção na remoção de corantes, bem como, pela possibilidade de valorização de um resíduo agroindustrial.

Edward Gordon Craig possuía fascínio por máscaras. Coletava, catalogava, mas também pesquisava suas possibilidades expressivas e pedagógicas. Em Craig, a máscara ultrapassou seu sentido concreto para se tornar um mecanismo de investigação e de aprofundamento de suas pesquisas. A criação de personas, ocultas sob pseudônimos, fazia parte desse artifício de criação de uma polifonia de vozes criadas por ele mesmo, para que cada linha de raciocínio pudesse ser levada até o fim. Nessa contradição, Craig construiu seu pensamento heterodoxo e revolucionário. Personagens solitários e contraditórios, como Hamlet, o satisfaziam mais que tudo. Mas seu encontro com o Robinson Crusoé, de Daniel Defoe, foi simbólico não apenas pois espelhava sua crença na mitologia do homem que constrói uma civilização com as próprias mãos, mas também na do náufrago, abandonado em um ambiente desolador e sombrio, como o da segunda grande guerra que já se anunciava.Esse estudo trata do que chamei de uma metodologia de mascaramento, e por seu caráter solitário e civilizatório em que essa metodologia implica, uso como base para a reflexão o projeto de Craig de ilustrar com gravuras uma publicação o romance Robinson Crusoé, de Daniel Defoe. Craig se identificava com a solidão de Crusoé e de Hamlet, e com a capacidade de apesar de sós, serem muitos.

Nutrient bioremediation processes in wastewater are becoming a prevalent focus of research, with microalgae emerging as prominent players. Such microorganisms provide a compelling alternative to traditional sanitation approaches. In light of this emerging interest, the main objective of this study was to explore diverse growth conditions of a native microalgae-bacteria consortium in domestic wastewater, aiming at nutrient bioremediation and biomass production. The investigation was performed on a laboratory scale through Schott® 2.0 L glass bottle photobioreactors, utilizing anaerobically digested wastewater to mitigate its polluting potential effectively. At first, the impact of increasing inflow of CO2 was evaluated. It was found that the addition of 5% CO2 yielded the most favorable outcomes, with the remarkable 96.5% of total phosphorus removal within four days alongside a biomass production rate of 0.04 g.L-1.d-1. In later steps, variations in light intensity were analyzed, and with 304±3 μmol.m-2.s-1, yielded the most promising results, with total phosphorus removal of 97.1% within two days and biomass production rate of 0.31 g.L-1.d-1. Finally, the influence of temperature was assessed, uncovering 97.2% total phosphorus removal within two days, complemented by a biomass production rate of 0.29 g.L-1.d-1. These results facilitated the development of a surface model illustrating the intricate relationship between light and temperature for this consortium. Furthermore, the consortium exhibited remarkable proficiency in nutrient removal from anaerobically digested wastewater, showcasing noteworthy resilience to temperature and light intensity fluctuations.

Objetivos: Identificar na literatura estudos que abordem as estratégias utilizadas no processo de doação de órgãos. Métodos: Revisão de escopo baseada na metodologia Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) nas bases de dados Medical Literature and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Scopus, Web of Science, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Embase via Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS), seguindo o checklist Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), realizada de agosto a dezembro de 2023. Resultados: Foram elegíveis 33 estudos, os quais evidenciaram que o processo de doação deve ocorrer de forma sistemática, seguindo as seguintes etapas: 1) identificação de pacientes com suspeita de morte encefálica (ME); 2) abertura do protocolo e notificação às organizações; 3) confirmação do diagnóstico de ME; 4) comunicação da morte à família; 5) realização da entrevista; 6) consentimento para doação; 7) manutenção do doador; 8) captação e alocação dos órgãos; 9) transplante; e 10) acompanhamento. Conclusão: A doação exige uma abordagem multifacetada, incluindo conscientização, investimento, avaliação e pesquisa.

Abstract Objective: Peer violence is a serious type of school violence that is associated with emotional and behavioral problems. The objective of this study was to analyze violence between peers and its associations with students’ social skills. Methods: We used a cross-sectional survey nested within a cluster-randomized controlled trial (REBEC/Brazil, U1111-1228-2342) to evaluate peer violence among elementary school students and its association with prosocial behaviors and mental problems. Teachers answered an adapted version of the Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ) and the Brazilian adaptation of the Teacher Observation of Classroom Adaptation-Checklist (TOCA-C) scale for each student. Children completed a sociodemographic questionnaire. The participants were 1,152 5-to-14-year-old children from Brazilian public schools, 79.70% of whom reported being involved in violent situations. Results: Children who had both committed and suffered violence were less likely to exhibit prosocial behaviors. Children who committed and suffered violence and those who only committed violence were more likely to experience concentration problems and exhibit disruptive behaviors. Conclusion: This study suggests that peer violence is associated with fewer prosocial behaviors and more behavioral problems. Thus, more specialized mental health care is required for children involved in peer violence, in addition to implementation and maintenance of programs to prevent and reduce violence and develop prosocial behaviors in schools.

Este artigo teve como objetivo analisar as políticas educacionais voltadas ao ensino da Filosofia. A partir de um estudo de caso na Rede Estadual de Ensino no Estado de Alagoas, em que foi selecionada uma Gerência Regional, coletaram-se dados com professores de Filosofia a respeito de suas inquietações no cotidiano das escolas de Tempo Integral. Partiu-se da suposição de que a Filosofia, reconhecida como uma disciplina responsável pela formação cidadã dos jovens escolarizados, poderia representar um auxílio ao diálogo entre os saberes comunitários no entorno da escola. No entanto, os dados analisados mostram que o lugar da Filosofia no processo de implantação do denominado “Novo Ensino Médio” não tem tido espaço para esse fim, sendo, portanto, considerada ineficaz.

This review was conducted to synthesize current knowledge, learn producer and Extension specialist perspectives, and identify gaps in understanding of the role of soil health in sustaining production in high tunnel (HT) systems. This synthesis includes findings from scholarly resources related to soil health in HTs, including research and Extension-based literature, perspectives from experienced HT producers and technical assistance providers, and the direct observations of a broad network of university research and Extension personnel working with HTs. Findings are intended to identify knowledge gaps and additional research and Extension resource needs of greatest priority to the HT producer community and technical assistance providers that support them at the time of publication. A review of 68 research articles and 58 Extension resources was conducted. Focus group interviews were conducted with small groups of experienced HT farmers in four regions of the eastern half of the United States, with in-depth farm case studies conducted in individual farmers in three of these regions. Growers across regions identified soil fertility management, soilborne diseases, soil compaction, and lack of consistency of soil analyses specific to HTs as the greatest soil-related challenges to HT production. Research and resources for technical assistance providers on mitigation strategies to remediate yield-limiting HT soil conditions, such as excessive soil salinity and high pathogen populations, were also lacking. As such, process-based research on techniques such as leaching, soil steaming, solarization, and anaerobic soil disinfestation in tunnels that consider short- and long-term costs, benefits, and effects on soil and plant productivity should be prioritized in the future when considering the impact of HT production on soil health. Interviews also indicated a need for networking opportunities for technical assistance providers across agencies (e.g., Natural Resources Conservation Service, Extension, nongovernmental organizations). Despite a high and increasing rate of adoption, there is currently a lack of information about maintaining HT systems. Given that HTs play a critical and growing economic role for specialty crop growers throughout the eastern United States, comprehensive intervention across the research–Extension spectrum to sustain productivity in HT systems is recommended.

Abstract In this work, magnetic polymeric microspheres were prepared through the copolymerization of styrene and divinylbenzene in the presence of magnetite synthesized in our laboratory. The effects of magnetite modification with oleic acid, stirring speed, initiator concentration and stabilizer concentration on the particles’ properties were studied. The magnetic microspheres were characterized according to morphology, thermal stability, particle size and distribution, and magnetic properties. The microspheres had spherical shape, micrometric size and superparamagnetic properties. Particle size was mainly affected by stirring speed, while particle size dispersion was strongly affected by initiator and stabilizer concentrations. The saturation magnetization of the microspheres was similar to the values reported in the literature for microspheres with the same content of magnetic material. The modification with oleic acid promoted the incorporation of magnetic material.

Abstract We describe, discuss and illustrate Alstroemeria maranhensis, a new species from the Cerrado domain in south-central Maranhão State, Brazil. We also provide a distribution map, a photographic plate and taxonomic comments. The new species is morphologically similar to A. viridiflora, though differs by having predominantly white flowers (vs. reddish or yellowish in A. viridiflora), falcate lower outer tepals (vs. not falcate) and obovate-spatulate lower inner tepal with attenuate and flat base (vs. spatulate without attenuate and/or flat base).

Resumo Este artigo apresenta a ferramenta teórico-metodológica dos grupos de diálogo e tem como objetivo refletir sobre a urgência de processos comunicativos e educacionais dialógicos que ultrapassem o horizonte da tolerância e promovam práticas transformadoras. Exemplificamos possibilidades e limitações da metodologia e perspectivas de contribuição à construção de agendas de estímulo à participação social e democrática, sobretudo no enfrentamento da desinformação. Essa reflexão é fruto de um processo de revisitação de experiências concretas de aplicação dos grupos de diálogo, no marco de quatro projetos de pesquisa no campo da Educação em Ciências e Saúde, três nacionais e um estadual, realizados entre os anos de 2018 e 2023.
