We consider the problem of moral disjunction in professional and business activities from a virtue-ethical perspective. Moral disjunction arises when the behavioral demands of a role conflict with personal morality; it is an important problem because most people in modern societies occupy several complex roles that can cause this clash to occur. We argue that moral disjunction, and the psychological mechanisms that people use to cope with it, are problematic because they make it hard to pursue virtue and to live with integrity. We present role coadunation as a process with epistemic and behavioral aspects that people can use to resolve moral disjunction with integrity. When role coadunation is successful, it enables people to live virtuous lives of appropriate narrative disunity and to honor their identity-conferring commitments. We show how role coadunation can be facilitated by interpretive communities and discuss the emergence and ideal features of those communities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Organizations often involve collaboration such that when they function well, their members engage in purposive coordination and cooperation with others. Previous research has focused on the role of shared, organizational-level goals and supportive governance mechanisms in promoting collaboration. But this research has not adequately addressed the question of the role of moral legitimacy in sustaining commitment to organizational goals and in facilitating good governance. In this article, we identify novel ethical microfoundations of collaborative organizations, explaining the role of organizational ethics in supporting organization-level goals and good governance. We draw upon virtue ethics, adopting a practice perspective on joint production to explain how standards of professional excellence and the virtues function so as to sustain commitment to organizational goals within collaborative organizations. We also draw upon goal-framing theory to articulate the reciprocal and mutually supportive relationship between governance and virtue, where governance requires virtue to function well, and virtue is sustained by governance mechanisms. The article analyzes the ethical requirements for the behavior of a private executor during execution of executive actions. It is noted that the activity of a private performer belongs to the socionomic type of professions of the system and is associated with constant interaction with people. Professions of this kind mostly make high demands on a person's health, physical and mental capacity. They are characterized by a complex combination of direct and indirect labor results, immediate and remote in time. The content of work in these professions is characterized by high emotional saturation of interpersonal contacts, high responsibility for the results of communication, for decision-making. In their activities, private executors are faced with the need to evaluate people's actions from the point of view of the law. Since they observe the most diverse manifestations of people's activity in the most crisis situations of their lives and have to decide their fate on the basis of legal norms, this profession carries the highest social significance and responsibility. Attention is focused on the fact that the nature of ethical requirements for the behavior of a private executive during executive actions remains insufficiently clarified. It is indicated that the purpose of the article is to determine the model of ethical requirements for the behavior of a private performer during performance of executive actions according to the rules of professional ethics. It is noted that procedural communication, regulated by legislation, with a private executor should be quick and accessible to the parties. The reception time should be as convenient as possible for the participants of the enforcement proceedings. Ethical principles of professional communication and private communication are considered: the prohibition of undue benefit, ensuring the interests of all parties to enforcement proceedings and the private executor, documenting and recording the actions of the private executor, avoiding conflicts of interest, maintaining confidentiality. Issues of mediation in executive proceedings are being investigated. It is concluded that in the course of his professional activity, a private performer, entering into interpersonal relations with various categories of citizens, is obliged to take into account and use various forms of interactions that comply with the law, rules of ethics and communication circumstances. Purpose: The guiding documents of the social work profession establish social justice as central to the discipline and practice of social work, yet there is little consensus on the meaning of the term. Therefore, the goal of this study was to examine how faculty and staff in one school of social work defined social justice. Methods: Data for this study were drawn from a school climate survey distributed within one school of social work with an explicitly stated commitment to social justice. Ninety-three staves and faculty responded to the open-ended question: How do you define social justice? Findings: Three themes were identified in how participants defined social justice as a form of evidence-based meaning making: (1) equality, (2) equity, and (3) advocacy and action. Discussion: We conclude this article by discussing implications for how social workers can incorporate a critical approach to defining social justice that extends beyond equality and equity. Specifically, we recommend that the profession work toward a common, evidenced-based understanding of social justice to effectively educate current and future social workers to dismantle systems of oppression at all levels of social work. Background: Services for adults with intellectual disabilities in Hong Kong have a hierarchical staffing structure. Professional social workers, who performed as mid‐level employees, work with frontline support workers to deliver services to clients. Methods: This qualitative study explored social workers' experiences of working with support workers through in‐depth interviews with 13 participants. Findings: The study revealed that social workers perceived a significant variation between themselves and support workers in terms of working motivation, values and attitudes towards clients with intellectual disabilities. Despite the hierarchical relationships, social workers and support workers share the power of service decision‐making. Social workers used firm and gentle approaches to facilitate changes in practices to uphold service values. These findings were compared with Western literature on this topic, indicating similarities and differences. Conclusion: The organisations need to facilitate an effective collaboration between social workers and support workers to enhance the quality of services for adults with intellectual disabilities in Hong Kong. Research has shown that people with disabilities (PWDs) are significantly disadvantaged within the areas of school enrolment, educational attainment, and learning, particularly in developing countries. In Ghana, the Inclusive Education (IE) Policy was established in 2006 to ensure the full participation of all PWDs in schools. The purpose of this study was to document the barriers and facilitators to the implementation of the IE Policy of Ghana. The research employed a case study in which eight education professionals and leaders (major stakeholders) were selected for their key roles in forming and implementing the IE Policy of Ghana and individually interviewed. The transcript of each participant's interview was coded and thematically analysed, after which a cross-case analysis was conducted to identify common themes. The findings of this study point to a number of implications for future policy and practice, including the critical need for accurate data on PWDs in the Ghanaian school system that policymakers, faculty, and administrators can use to better support PWDs. The North American Muslim population is growing rapidly, but little research has been conducted to help social workers interact with members of this population in a culturally sensitive manner. To assist social workers engage with Muslims in an ethical and effective manner, this qualitative study sought to answer the following questions: how do Muslims experience interactions with non-Muslims and what have they learned from their encounters that might facilitate positive interactions? To answer these two questions, we used narrative inquiry with a sample of 10 Muslim social work students and recent alumni. The findings suggest that Muslims may be treated either positively or negatively by non-Muslims in interactions in various contexts, that they are frequently unable to voice their religious perspectives, and that their religious difference is often portrayed in single-sided or negative ways as well as prioritized against their wishes while ignoring other aspects of their social identities. As a result, many tend to avoid interactions with non-Muslims. The paper offers strategies to foster more respectful interactions with Muslims, such as attending to how much their religious difference is prioritized, and providing opportunities to share their perspectives. Aim: Trauma-informed care (TIC) is a strengths-based organizational approach which recognizes the prevalence and impact of trauma on an individual's neurological, sensorimotor, and emotional responses and development. There is limited research on pediatric occupational therapy providers' (OTPs) and physical therapy providers' (PTPs) perceptions on incorporating TIC into their practice. This pilot study aims to describe the confidence, attitudes, barriers, and education of pediatric OTPs and PTPs regarding TIC. Method: OTPs and PTPs (n = 87) working in pediatric settings in the U.S. completed an electronic survey regarding their perceptions of TIC. Results: OTPs reported higher confidence in TIC compared to PTPs. Most participants reported favorable attitudes toward TIC, yet no statistical significance was identified between the two professions' overall attitudes toward TIC. Collectively, participants reported lack of time and training as barriers. There was a statistically significant difference between how the two professions rated competency, training, and concern over clients' retraumatization. There was significant association between years of professional experience and TIC education. Conclusion: Preliminary findings indicate an overall agreement of OTPs and PTPs with principles of TIC and common barriers to TIC practice. The literature has paid little attention to the (mis)fit effect between customer service orientation (CSO) and internal service qualities (ISQ). Unlike past studies, we use a non-commensurate and complementary fit approach by adopting a distinctive CSO as a need dimension at the individual level and ISQ as a satisfaction dimension provided by the organization. We test a CSO–ISQ (mis)fit model and include pride in membership and internal ethics training programs as supplementary activators for frontline employee turnover intentions and affective commitment. Based on the polynomial, mediation, and moderation analyses, we found that enjoyment service orientation–ISQ (mis)fit effects on pride in membership show complete and partial mediation effects on turnover intentions and affective commitment, with a significant joint effect of the training program. We discuss the theoretical contributions of our findings. Findings suggest that enhancing pride in membership can buffer the misfit between frontline employees' needs and their satisfaction with ISQ, leading to a lower turnover intention and a stronger affective commitment. Furthermore, this study suggests that internal ethics training programs can enhance the positive effect of pride in membership on turnover intentions and affective commitment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article examines the issue of the responsibility of a private performer for violating ethical norms. It is noted that the analysis of the essential characteristics and nature of legal sanctions is a necessary condition for the competent use of scientific terminology, a clear and logical structure of research, and in a practical sense, it is also a necessary condition for adequate disciplinary punishment. At the same time, many questions arise, the main of which is whether it is possible to bring a private performer to disciplinary responsibility for an ethical tort, which is definitely recognized as a type of legal responsibility? In this regard, the purpose of the article is to determine the legal essence of the responsibility of a private contractor for violating the rules of professional ethics. The points of view of scientists on the concept of legal responsibility are analyzed. The regulatory provisions of the legislation on the activities of a private contractor, which establish responsibility for violating the rules of professional ethics, are studied. It is concluded that one of the main factors of compliance with professional discipline is the possibility of bringing private performers to disciplinary responsibility. The basis for applying the means of disciplinary responsibility to a person is the commission of a disciplinary delict (misdemeanor), which is the non-fulfillment or improper fulfillment of professional duties. The corpus of a disciplinary delict is characterized by: 1) the subject is a private executor; 2) an object - a set of social relations that arise during the execution of decisions; 3) by an objective party - by action or inaction according to the general rule in the form of non-performance or improper performance of professional duties; 4) by the subjective side - the fault of the private performer in the form of direct intent. The specific reason for bringing a private performer to disciplinary responsibility is the commission of a tort, which consists in his violation of the rules of professional ethics. In this case, a person may be subject to disciplinary liability for an act committed outside the time of his professional duties. Establishing the specified basis of disciplinary responsibility is dictated by the specifics of executive activity. AIMS: This study investigated the status and influencing factors of organizational silence among 624 nurses in general hospitals in eastern coastal cities of China. Methods: This study followed STROBE guidelines. During the period from January to April 2024, the researchers investigated 624 clinical in-service nurses in terms of general information, employee silence behavior, work engagement, and peer support, and analyzed the related factors affecting nurses' organizational silence. Results: The total average score of nurses' organizational silence was (33.88 ± 6.88), and the total score of work engagement was (69.23 ± 10.76); The total score of the colleague support scale was (90.02 ± 13.72), which was at the medium level. Univariate analysis showed that the scores of organizational silence of 610 nurses had statistical differences in departments, employment methods and professional titles (P < 0.05); Pearson correlation analysis showed that nurses' work engagement (r=-0.530, P < 0.05), perceived colleague support a scale (r=-0.530, P < 0.05), colleague support B scale (r=-0.363, P < 0.05) were negatively correlated with organizational silence; Multiple linear regression analysis showed that department (β'value = 0.256, P = 0.001), employment mode (β'value = 0.115, P = 0.001), professional title (β'value = 0.741, P = 0.023), working years (β'value = 1.1110, P = 0.000), work engagement (β'value6.182, P = 0.000), colleague support scale A (β'value = 0.198, P = 0.003), and scale B (β'value = 0.485, P = 0.001) were the main influencing factors of nurses' organizational silence behavior. Conclusions: In this study, nurses' organizational silence is at the medium level, and nursing workers with low outpatient service, contract system, professional title and working years, less work investment and poor support from colleagues are prone to silence behavior. Ethical codes are written documents that delineate a set of rules and principles that guide the duties and responsibilities of professionals within a professional organization from an ethical perspective. The research aims to develop an ethical code framework for instructors engaged in distance education. The Delphi, a qualitative research method, was employed to achieve this aim. The study included 22 distance education experts, selected via purposive sampling. The Delphi technique, conducted in three rounds, commenced with an evaluation of the ethical dimensions of distance education. In the study’s second phase, we invited participants to suggest additional ethical codes for the agreed-upon dimensions. We collected the suggestions and agreed on specific ethical code items in the third round. The researchers thus established the final form of the ethical code list. This process resulted in developing an ethical code framework for instructors engaged in distance education. The framework comprises sixdimensions: Instructional Design (ID), Social Interaction (SI), Content Provision (CP), Technology Usage (TU), Management (M), and Assessment and Evaluation (AE). It includes 62 ethical code items. The study demonstrates that the ethical code dimensions align with the roles of online instructors, as described in the relevant literature. Continuing professional development (CPD) is a process by which healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, can be engaged in life‐long learning and development. In 2018, the Jordanian government issued Regulation No. 46, which addresses the CPD and relicensing cycle requirements. This study aims to investigate Jordanian community pharmacists' experiences and perceptions toward CPDs. The study also discussed factors influencing pharmacists' engagement in CPD activities. An online self‐administered questionnaire was distributed between August and October of 2022 using a range of participant identification and recruitment strategies. The questionnaire was designed for community pharmacists who are currently in practice. Descriptive data analysis was carried out. Of the 425 participating community pharmacists, 270 (63.5%) had a positive attitude toward CPD in terms of considering CPD to be a professional responsibility for all practising pharmacists. Almost 50% of recruited community pharmacists had no preference between theoretical and practical activities. Moreover, carrying out research projects and participating in research groups were the least preferred CPD activities. Evidence indicates that the most influencing factors were feasibility and capacity‐related issues such as time, cost, work burden and requirements and the logistics related to CPD activities. Regulators, professional associations, and legislators are responsible for planning and implementing actions that reduce obstacles and increase facilitators. CPD activities should also be made available through various delivery methods and strategies to guarantee relevance, prevent duplication, and promote pharmacists' involvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rapport is generally considered an essential component of successful interviewing, where participants are willing to share and divulge information. The present paper contributes to the research on rapport in qualitative interviewing by exploring ethical tensions that researchers may experience when conducting qualitative interviews with vulnerable participants. The analysis is based on semi-structured interviews with nine researchers from various fields within social sciences who had extensive experience in doing research with diverse vulnerable groups. We identified six ethical tensions related to building rapport with people in vulnerable life situations that cover issues concerning both too little and too much rapport. Findings illustrate that rapport as the 'ideal' for the researcher-participant relationship may need nuancing. The study concludes that researchers undertaking qualitative interviews on sensitive topics need to have a conscious awareness of ethical tensions that may arise when building rapport with their participants [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hospital ethics committees (HECs) are relatively new in non-Western countries. This article examines the effectiveness of a HEC established in Bursa/Turkey over ten years, aiming to contribute insights for the wider implementation and enhancement of HECs. The evaluative methodology combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to assess its effectiveness. Patients are the primary users of the HEC, although applications from physicians, hospital managers, and the Patient Rights Board are also observed. Surgical specialities account for the majority of applications, particularly from obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine. The study identifies the types of applications, with malpractice claims, ethical inquiries, and access-related complaints being the most common. Despite many healthcare professionals encountering ethical dilemmas, the HEC was underutilized for consultations due to factors such as low awareness, perceived autonomy challenges, and skepticism regarding its efficacy. Additionally, the study describes how HEC recommendations contribute to policy development, addressing organizational issues and promoting ethical practices. The decision-making process within the HEC was also scrutinized, emphasizing the necessity of a structured methodology for moral deliberation. Concerns are raised about committee members lacking specific training in ethical analysis, potentially resulting in biases and suboptimal decisions. Contextual factors, including institutional culture and economic considerations, are also recognized for their influence on decision-making. This analysis highlights the multifaceted nature of HECs and the challenges they face in achieving effectiveness. It underscores the need for standardized measures, improved training for committee members, and contextual awareness to enhance the impact and functionality of HECs in healthcare institutions. Background: Intensive care units are critical environments where various alarm systems play a pivotal role in patient monitoring and safety. Alarm fatigue can lead to slower response times and missed alarms, compromising patient safety and increasing stress and burnout among intensive care unit nurses. Understanding how intensive care unit nurses respond to and manage these alarms is crucial in evaluating their impact on patient care and nursing well-being. Methods: This descriptive qualitative study explored the experiences of intensive care unit nurses in alarm management. Conducted in the medical and surgical intensive care units of a Northern Taiwan medical center, the study involved 15 nurses. Semi-structured interviews were utilized to investigate the working experiences of ICU nurses in alarm management and to identify their coping strategies for dealing with the constant inundation of medical device alarms. The interviews were transcribed, and content analysis was applied to identify key themes in the responses. Results: The study revealed five main themes in intensive care unit nurses' strategies for managing alarms: (1) Mastering alarm signals and acting; (2) Team monitoring for life preservation; (3) Enhancing senses and distinguishing carefully; (4) Learning from the lessons of incidents for vigilant reflection; and (5) Detach alarms' influence on daily life. These coping strategies are effective in alarm management, safeguarding patients' lives, enhancing the serenity of the clinical environment, and mitigating the physical and mental exhaustion caused by alarm fatigue. Conclusions: Intensive Care Unit nurses develop various coping strategies to manage medical device alarms, based on their experience. In this article we analyse the motherhood and care experiences of women researchers in Spain to understand the ways in which they manage the work-care conflict in the scientific-academic field and how it impacts their employment and psycho-social wellbeing. To do this, we conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with researchers at all levels of the academic career affiliated with 23 Spanish universities and research centres. The results show that academic mothers experience overload, stress and guilt in facing the double mandate of being "good mothers" and "good professionals". The results also indicate that they feel forced to sacrifice selfcare to more comfortably meet their professional and domestic responsibilities, and to choose between two lesser evils: postponing or giving up motherhood or lowering their professional ambitions. In this pilot study, deliberate practice and competence-based assessment were incorporated into a first-year graduate course on professional issues and ethics. Students responded to challenging simulations of basic ethical situations in therapy before and after the course. Aspects of deliberate practice were incorporated into the course. Student self-report ratings and independent performance ratings blind to timing found improvements in students' ability to manage basic ethical situations in practice. Pilot evidence suggests competence-based assessment and training have potential use for training students preparing to engage in their first therapy practicum experiences. Background & Objective: The field of anesthesiology is rapidly evolving in Iran, and there is a growing need to develop educational programs in this area. As such, the purpose of this research is to conduct a comparative analysis of the curriculum for master's courses in anesthesiology between Iran and the United States. Material & Methods: This comparative descriptive study was conducted in 2023. To collect the necessary data, we extracted information from the websites of the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education of Iran and Case Western Reserve University, respectively. Once the data was collected, we analyzed it using Bereday's model, which involves four key stages: description, interpretation, juxtaposition, and comparison. Results: Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that both Iranian and American anesthesiology master's programs incorporate the principles of professional ethics in their curriculum. One major weakness of the anesthesiology master's curriculum in Iran is its focus on preparing students for careers in education and research rather than practical application in the field. However, Iran's anesthesiology major benefits from a strong foundation in both continuous and noncontinuous anesthesiology bachelor's courses. In terms of similarities, our comparative analysis of the two programs revealed that many courses offered in anesthesiology master's programs are similar, including courses on monitoring, pharmacology, and the principles of anesthesia. Conclusion: The findings of this research have important implications for enhancing the anesthesiology master's curriculum in Iran, with a focus on improving education, research, and patient care. The results suggest that there is a need to revise the curriculum to better prepare graduates for practical application and to increase the role of graduates in the care of patients. Furthermore, the insights gained from this study can be used by educational planners to revise curriculum content and evaluation methods, with the goal of enhancing the quality of anesthesiology education and training in Iran. Context.--Social media has become widely adopted by pathologists and other physicians for professional purposes. While engagement has likely increased over time, there remain few concrete data regarding attitudes toward its use. Objective.--To assess pathologists' use of and attitudes toward social media over time. Design.--We created a survey regarding personal and professional use of social media and circulated it via multiple channels in December 2017 and again in February 2022. Results of the 2 surveys were compared for statistically significant differences. Results.--The 2017 survey was completed by 97 participants, and the 2022 survey by 305 participants. Respondents were predominantly female and academics, included pathologists in all age categories and all time-in-practice length. In both surveys, Twitter (now X) was the most popular platform for professional use and Facebook was the most popular for personal use. Professional barriers to social media use remained consistent between the 2 surveys, including the amount of time required. Education was seen as the main benefit of social media use in both surveys, while other benefits such as networking and increasing professional visibility were endorsed significantly less often in the second survey. While the second survey received more than 3 times as many responses as the first, several aspects of social media use (mainly demographics) remained similar during the time-frame, while other aspects (such as usage and perceived values) decreased. Conclusions.--Pathologists continue to find social media valuable. Barriers remain, though overall pathologists of all ages and practice settings appear receptive to using social media to further educational and other opportunities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While there is increasing recognition of the need for counselor education programs to identify criteria by which students' professional dispositions and associated behaviors are evaluated, the literature has yet to explore specific ways in which faculty can engage in the provision of dispositional feedback. This article offers a contemporary review of the related literatures and two specific case examples illustrating how theoretical, research, pedagogical, and clinical knowledge can inform interpersonally rich and creative approaches to formative dispositional feedback, all while fulfilling gatekeeping responsibilities. This project investigates how the goals of microenterprise entrepreneurs affect their use of communication genres. Although slide-based business pitches are key for traditional entrepreneurs, microenterprise entrepreneurs have little interest in investment. Therefore, acquiring customers through short elevator pitches takes this central position. This article also explores the social justice dimensions of microenterprise acceleration, finding that such organizations can provide important services in combating inequality. This project uses writing, activity, and genre research as a theoretical framework, and the research site is a microenterprise accelerator in Tacoma, Washington called Spaceworks Tacoma, which supports both lower-income and Black owners of small businesses. This qualitative systematic review aimed to identify and appraise the available qualitative evidence on the attitudes, beliefs, and values of the long-term care workforce towards palliative care. These attributes are important antecedents of behaviour in care provision. The qualitative findings were synthesized into two statements: 'Staff in long-term care facilities understand the importance of clear communication and family engagement for optimal palliative and end-of-life care (PEoLC)', and 'Staff in long-term care facilities deliver palliative and end-of-life care (PEoLC) that is both functional and interpersonal, while managing competing system, professional, and emotional demands.' Key findings showed favourable attitudes in key aspects of PEoLC. Beliefs were consistent with the broader healthcare literature on dying and death, and values favourably aligned with contemporary understandings of palliative care. The review's key findings extend the understanding of workforce attributes beyond knowledge of palliative care and show recognition of broader holistic domains of PEoLC that staff strive to address. The study aimed to evaluate the ethical dilemmas faced by nurses who provide care to patients with hematologic cancer and determine their coping mechanisms using a phenomenological approach. This qualitative study was conducted with 35 nurses employed in clinics specializing in hematologic cancer patient care, living in diverse regions of Turkey, using semistructured, in-depth interviews through the WhatsApp mobile application. The snowball sampling technique was utilized to identify participants, and interviews continued until data saturation was achieved. All interviews were recorded and subsequently transcribed. Data analysis was conducted using Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis method, with the study adhering to the COREQ (Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research) checklist for reporting. In the analysis of the data, 2 categories (ethical dilemma situations and coping experiences) and 6 subthemes (treatment, care, professional values and beliefs, emotions, struggling with emotional burdens, and psychosocial approach) emerged. According to the results, nurses responsible for hematologic cancer patients struggle with ethical dilemmas in healthcare delivery and face challenges in effectively addressing them, which could potentially impact the quality of healthcare provided by nurses. Nurse retention remains a pivotal issue, necessitating urgent strategies aimed at the recruitment and retention of highly qualified nurses. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the influence of nurses' personal and professional values, along with work environment, on predicting intent to leave an organization. Utilizing a secondary analysis approach, this study employed logistic regression to predict intent to leave among registered nurses (n = 671) using results from the Short Schwartz's Value Survey, the Nurses Professional Values Scale-3, and the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index. Regression analysis indicates that the work environment including "Participation in Hospital Affairs" (B = -.665, odds ratio = .514), "Nurse Manager Ability, Leadership, and Support" (B = -.448, odds ratio = .639), and "Staffing and Resource Adequacy" (B = -.589, odds ratio = .555) are significant predictors of nurses' intentions to leave. Although the entire legal profession shares a single ethical code, lawyers' understanding of what it means to be "ethical" shows considerable variation. This article discusses the factors that shape lawyers' ethical conduct in practice. We review the role of legal education, bar associations, the workplace, and hard and soft regulators in the construction of lawyers' ethical values. We then explore the important role that practice contexts play in shaping lawyers' understanding of appropriate ethical conduct. Some of the key explanatory factors for differences among lawyers include type of client, office size, specialty and specialization, regulators, and the extent to which lawyers engage in litigation. Objective: This study analyzes the impact of organizational characteristics and ethical orientation on auditors' ethical sensitivity. Methodology: It is descriptive-survey-based, field-based in its method, and deductive-library-based in terms of collecting the theoretical framework and research background. The statistical population under investigation includes all members of the Society of Certified Public Accountants, with a sample size of 338 individuals selected using Cochran's sampling method. After collecting the information from the distributed questionnaires, the research variables were calculated using Excel software, and the formulated hypotheses were tested using SmartPLS software. Findings: The findings indicated that organizational characteristics and auditors' experience have a positive and significant impact on auditors' ethical sensitivity, while auditors' competence, objectivity (impartiality), and idealism do not have a significant impact on auditors' ethical sensitivity. Conclusion: Given the importance of audit ethics, it is recommended that the Society of Certified Public Accountants include ethics education in their training programs to improve ethical characteristics and maintain auditors' independence and ensure greater oversight of adherence to audit ethics. Additionally, the committee responsible for developing audit standards can use the results of the present study to create standards that maintain auditors' ethical sensitivity. Objective: Professional values are crucial for delivering high-quality care in neonatal intensive care units while caring behavior impacts nurses' performance and well-being. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between professional values and caring behavior among nurses in neonatal intensive care units. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 172 nurses was conducted using the Nursing Professional Value Scale and Caring Behaviors Assessment Tool. The study was carried out between 1 October and 5 December 2023. Results: Nurses demonstrated a moderate to high degree of professional commitment, with a mean professional value score of 91.1 ± 11.1. The mean score for caring behavior was 99.7 ± 12.4. The highest-rated domain was setting up a supporting, protective, and corrective environment, with a mean score of 22.8 ± 2.7. A low positive relationship was found between the supportive, protective, and corrective environment domain and nurses' professional value (r = 0.18, p = 0.017), as well as between overall caring behavior and nurses' professional value (r = 0.16, p = 0.038). Conclusion: The results indicate a favorable relationship between professional values and caring behavior, especially in areas like establishing a supportive workplace. However, both professional value and caring behavior needs improvement in certain aspect. Enhancing these aspects could further strengthen their relationship, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to newborn patients and their families. Practice implications: To cultivate a positive work environment and instill caring behaviors and professional values among NICU nurses, it is imperative to allocate sufficient time and resources. Motivated by the increasing economic significance of investment advisory industries and the prevalence of wrongdoing in financial planning services, we examine whether, and to what extent, employee misconduct is shaped by their local corruption culture. Using novel data of more than 4.7 million adviser-year observations of financial advisers and the Department of Justice's data on corruption, we find that financial advisers and advisory firms located in areas with higher levels of corruption are more likely to commit misconduct. These results hold for both individual advisor and firm level analyses and are robust to the use of various fixed effects, model specifications, proxies for corruption and misconduct, and an instrumental variable approach. Using the passage of the Dodd-Frank Whistleblower Provision, which provides incentives for reporting corruption incidences and thereby reduces the incentives for fraud, we find that the relation between local corruption culture and adviser misconduct is attenuated after the provision enacted by the SEC. Overall, our study highlights the externalities of corruption culture on individual ethics and the essential role of whistleblowing laws in reducing corruption-prone norms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

What ethical challenges do internal auditors (IAs) encounter in their professional role, and how do they navigate these hurdles, especially when weaving risks into their ethical judgments? Anchored in philosophical concepts distinguishing norms from values, and the notion that risk is intrinsically moral, this research delves into interviews of 33 Canadian public sector IAs across various government strata. This primary data are enriched by insights from archival documents and an ethics training session attended by 11 internal audit executives. Our analysis reveals two primary ethical challenges faced by IAs—ethical issues and dilemmas—which unfold in the various contexts we explicate in this study. To address them, IAs tend to favor axiological logic (values driven) over deontological logic (norms driven). However, in some situations, a prudential logic centered on risk becomes their touchstone. Our key takeaways are threefold: (1) a highlight of the ethical quandaries IAs grapple with; (2) evidence that prudential logic, with its merits and flaws, is used to bridge the gap that sometimes exists between professional norms and individual values; and (3) an emphasis on the weak reliance of IAs on the Institute of Internal Auditors Code of Ethics, hinting at avenues for its enhanced outreach and pedagogy. Modern healthcare systems are increasingly organized according to diagnosis-specific clinical pathways and treatment protocols. At the same time, the number of patients with complex problems and needs that do not fit the single-diagnosis approach is rising, contributing to a high prevalence of diagnostic errors. In this article, we focus on the risk of diagnostic errors arising from missed or incomplete diagnosis and assessment of older adult patients' care needs in the first hours of acute hospitalizations in EDs. This focus is important for improving patient safety, as clinical decisions made in EDs impact patient safety in the subsequent steps of the process, thereby potentially causing new risks to arise. Based on our discussion of clinical decision-making and diagnostic errors in the acute care context, we propose a more comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to improvements in patient safety that integrates organizational and clinical research and examines where, when, how, and why risks to patient safety arise in and across different clinical–organizational contexts. The inclusion of transgender women teachers as human beings with rights and privileges deserves respect and equality in their workplace and the community they belong. In the literature, limited studies explore the lives of transgender women in the workplace as this requires careful exploration of their encounters due to their sensitive disposition. This study aspires to deeply understand the personal experiences of the participants on a certain phenomenon such as the inclusion of Transgender women teachers in the Department of Education (DepEd) Guihulngan City Division. This study utilized Heideggerian phenomenology as a research design anchoring the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) popularized by Moustakas and modified by Van Kaam. Three (3) participants saturated the data in the research environment. Inclusive and Exclusive Criteria were established in the study using a snowball-purposive sampling technique. After the analysis, the emerging themes were generated such as the darkest reality, Towards complete acceptance, Favorable Professional Reception, and Women that Matter. These themes provide a clear picture of how transgender women are living their lives in the department. The main issue faced by Transgender women teachers is the question of labeling. Thus, Transgender women teachers must carry on their duties and responsibilities and improve their personal and professional growth to enhance learners' capability in learning amidst the issue regarding their preferences. Background: Patient safety is a global health issue that affects patients worldwide. Providing safe care in the intensive care units (ICUs) is one of the most crucial tasks for nurses. Numerous factors can impact the capacity of nurses to deliver safe care within ICUs. Consequently, this study was undertaken with the aim of identifying the components of safe nursing care in ICUs. Methods: The current research constitutes a qualitative conventional content analysis study conducted from January 2022 to June 2022. The study participants comprised nurses, intensivists, nurse responsible for patient safety, paramedic, patients, and patients' family member, totaling 21 individuals selected through purposive sampling. Data collection involved individual, in-depth, and semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, data analysis was performed utilizing the approach outlined by Graneheim and Lundman (Nurse Educ Today 24(2):105–12, 2004), leading to the identification of participants' perspectives. Results: Three themes were identified as components of safe nursing care in ICUs. These themes include professional behavior (with categories: Implementation of policies, organizing communication, professional ethics), holistic care (with categories: systematic care, comprehensive care of all systems), and safety-oriented organization (with categories: human resource management and safe environment). Conclusions: The findings of this study underscore the significance of advocating for safe nursing practices in ICUs by emphasizing professional conduct, holistic care, and safety-focused organizational structures. These results align with existing research, suggesting that by introducing tailored interventions and tactics informed by these elements, a safer environment for nursing care can be established for ICUs patients. Introduction: Moral distress is consecutively observed as a result of moral decisions in nurses. Increasing commitment to professional ethics codes and rituals can help nurses in making ethical decisions. This research was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between nurses' moral distress and their commitment to professional ethics code among nurses working in Arak, 2023. Methods & Materials: In this descriptive-analytical study, 135 nurses from the selected hospitals of Arak, including Valiasr Hospital, Taleghani Hospital, and Amirul Mominin Hospital, were selected on a quota basis and available in 2023. Corelli's moral distress tool (2002) and measuring nurses' performance according to Pour Zanjani et al.'s nursing code of ethics (2013) were used to collect data. The data were analyzed after being collected by descriptive and inferential tests with SPSS software version 26. Results: In this research, 73.3% of the samples were male and 26.7% were female with an average age of 33.5±18.65 years. The majority of nurses were employed in the emergency department and 88.9% had a bachelor's degree. The results showed that the level of moral distress in half of the nurses was high. In this study, there was an inverse and significant relationship between nurses' moral distress and compliance with professional ethics (p < 0.001, r = -0.425). The results showed that the lowest level of commitment and performance to the professional ethics of nurses was in the dimension of education and research. Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed that the average level of moral distress in nurses was not at the desired level, and the increase in moral distress is related to the decrease in commitment to the rules of professional ethics. Introduction: Compliance with ethics and professional behavior in educational, health-therapeutic environments is part of the inherent nature of the health system, which increases the quality of services and the satisfaction of service recipients. Due to the lack of a comprehensive survey about the facilitators of ethics and professional behavior in Iran's health system, the current research was conducted with the aim of collecting the available documents about the factors that facilitate the observance of ethics and professional behavior in the country's health system. Methods & Materials: The current research is a systematic review using the key words "professional ethics", "professional behavior", "medical ethics", "nursing ethics", "ethics in research", "ethics in education". ", "facilitating factors of professional ethics" and "facilitating factors" in the databases "MagIran", "Iran medex, Google scholar", "SID", "Pubmed", "Scopus", "Web of science" and was carried out by two researchers separately in the period of 2007-2024, in Persian and English. 262 full-text articles were evaluated based on the "Newcastle-Ottawa and AMSTAR" valid checklists, and 55 of them were included in the study. Results: More than two hundred issues related to the facilitating factors of compliance with ethics and professional behavior were reported in the articles. Among the most important factors facilitating the observance of professional ethics in various fields are: 1. Higher education: respectful treatment of professors with students, responsibility and punctuality among students; 2. Research: familiarizing researchers and employees with the scientific principles and rules of research; 3. Treatment: effective communication with patients, timely and quality health care; 4.Professional behavior: observing the behavior of others in the work environment and taking an example from them. Conclusion: With regard to the integration of data and research in Iran's health care and health system, it is first important to know the facilitators of ethical compliance, professional behavior, their training at different levels of the health system and efforts to establish them. In their daily practice, health care workers (HCWs) experience the effects of tensions between professional ethos and work realities, which can lead to ethical dilemmas. We aim to explore the ethical dilemmas that affected HCWs in Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic and to understand these in the context of the German health system. Between April and December 2022, we interviewed HCWs from various levels of care and key informants responsible for decisions related to HCWs in Germany. Three themes were identified in the data analyzed from 78 participants. The first highlighted the potency of pre-existing health system problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second captured the ethical dilemmas that were described as having arisen due to the tension between professional ethos and structural constraints. The third included factors related to increasing or diminishing the implications of ethical dilemmas. A lack of opportunities for HCWs to participate in political and managerial decisions was suggested to result in policies that do not meet the needs of HCWs and patients. Positive interpersonal interactions were described as helpful when coping with dilemmatic decision-making situations. In order to avoid negative consequences caused by unresolved ethical dilemmas, including moral distress, among HCWs, staff shortages and decision-making in the German health system urgently need to be addressed. HCWs' working conditions regularly evoke ethical dilemmas, particularly during public health emergencies. Objectives: This study investigated to what extent South African dietitians make use of social media and electronic communication and their compliance with the ethical guidelines set by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Design: Cross-sectional descriptive design. Setting: South Africa. Subjects: Registered South African dietitians. Methods: Data were collected using an online survey (N = 125) and an observational checklist for selected digital platforms (N = 135). Both parts assessed demographic characteristics, usage of digital platforms and awareness or adherence to ethical guidelines. Results: Most participants used Instagram (45.5%) and Facebook (31.6%) as these platforms were regarded as user friendly, quick and suitable for their target audiences. Barriers to social media usage included time constraints (53.0%) and being unfamiliar with some platforms (37.3%). Enablers to social media usage included better reach of target population (61.4%) and ease of use (56.6%). The majority of survey participants were aware of the HPCSA Ethical Guidelines for Good Practice (n = 68/75, 90.7%). Overall compliance with the HPCSA guidelines was observed, yet nearly half (37/89, 41.6%) of the dietitians who shared information on digital platforms never provided references. Forms of touting/canvassing were observed on 20.7% (n = 28/135) of the platforms, while 15.6% of dietitians (n = 21) sold products on their websites, mostly meal-plans and supplements. Conclusion: South African dietitians actively engage with digital platforms to a varied extent, highlighting the importance of being cognisant of, and applying, the HPCSA Ethical Guidelines for Good Practice. BACKGROUND: Employment barriers experienced by people with disabilities are well-documented by researchers. A closer look at the nature of these barriers at different stages of the job acquisition process may help to understand and address current challenges. OBJECTIVE: To understand how employment barriers differ for job seekers with and without disabilities; the impact of disability type; and are job acquisition barriers most salient, when looking for, applying to, or accepting a position. METHODS: 3,021 working-age adults (including 1,491 adults with disabilities) from a Qualtrics opt-in panel completed an online survey about employment status, job search barriers, and demographic factors (including disability). Logistic regression predicted odds of experiencing a job search barrier based on disability and other sociodemographic factors. RESULTS: Most job seekers reported barriers to employment, with disability being the strongest predictor. While the types of barriers experienced at all stages of the job search were similar for people with and without disabilities, people with disabilities experienced barriers significantly more often. CONCLUSION: Employment barriers among people with and without disabilities are similar in nature but vary by degree. Bioethicists influence practices and policies in medicine, science, and public health. However, little is known about bioethicists' views. We recently surveyed 824 U.S. bioethicists on a wide range of ethical issues, including topics related to abortion, medical aid in dying, and resource allocation, among others. We also asked bioethicists about their demographic, religious, academic, and professional backgrounds. We find that bioethicists' normative commitments predict their views on bioethical issues. We also find that, in important ways, bioethicists' views do not align with those of the U.S. public: for instance, bioethicists are more likely than members of the public to think abortion is ethically permissible but are less likely to believe compensating organ donors is. Our demographic results indicate the field of bioethics is far less diverse than the U.S. population—less diverse even than other academic disciplines—suggesting far more work needs to be done to build an inclusive field. The 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturned reproductive, health, and abortion rights for women. Using the NASW Code of Ethics, a course assignment is offered for students to examine the professional, ethical commitment and responsibility of social workers to advocate for these rights and reproductive justice for women. Practical ideas for incorporating content examining ethics into coursework in higher education are examined. An advocacy practice and policy model is provided and examined for consideration and use for advocacy when promoting reproductive rights and justice for women. The course assignment centers on the work of Freire (1970), as students work in small groups to identify generative themes in relationship to the NASW Code of Ethics and reproductive and health rights and justice for women. In our mobile working world, boundaries between work and non‐work domains are more and more blurred, which can impair professionals' recovery and well‐being. Consequently, managing work–non‐work boundaries represents an important challenge for professionals. Research suggests that boundary work tactics conveyed in boundary management interventions may promote recovery and well‐being. However, the efficacy of boundary work tactics is largely unknown, as well as theoretical mechanisms that may explain the effectiveness of boundary management interventions in regard of both training design and training transfer. Building on the social cognitive theory of self‐regulation, we develop a web‐based boundary management training. Based on the integrated training transfer and effectiveness model, we evaluate its effects on the three levels of training effectiveness: (1) perceived learning, (2) cognitions and behaviours, with boundary control and boundary creation as indicators, and (3) recovery and well‐being. Results of our randomized controlled intervention study show several expected changes in boundary creation, suggesting that drawing on the social cognitive theory of self‐regulation for training design can result in effective behaviour change.
