Plati ir neaprėpiama konferencijos tema „Kaip papasakoti apie meną“ susiaurės kiekvieno pasakotojo naratyve bei praktikose. Svarbu pasidžiaugti, kad Vilniaus dailės akademija (toliau – VDA) pakvietė dalyvauti ne tik mokslo darbuotojus ir teoretikus, bet ir neinstitucinius meno kūrėjus. Vienas mano pirminių impulsų dalyvauti buvo amžinas rašančių menininkų siekis neatiduoti upės plaukimo atsitiktinumams, institucijoms ir neperiodiškai pasirodančioms menininkų knygoms ar straipsnių rinkiniams. Sulaukusi 40 metų amžiaus, aš manau, kad menininkui svarbiausia yra turėti savo knygą, nesvarbu, kokiais būdais ir metodais ją išleisti, nesvarbu, kokiam velniui parsiduoti, nes kapitalizmo labirintuose „tikslas pateisina priemones“. The text analyses the specific forms and channels of artwork development, namely, it looks into the storytelling potential of the physical space (the closedness of interiors and openness of exteriors), the digital space, and the space of paper publication. While respecing the artistic freedom, the paper stresses the importance of the permanently changing context, although even the most recognised art professionals can forget that, which often produces a comical effect. The research involves some seemingly unrelated topics and a few concrete objects: 1. artwork distribution, 2. the entrenchment of architects in the fabric of exhibition, 3. unseen contexts, and 4. the analysis/slam of exhibition titles from a particular historical period. The paper uses the comparative method that is rich both with references and personal remarks, and its style is close to that of a writer-artist rather than an academic. It aims to show the artworld as being slightly rough-around-the-edges, governed by distinct sources of power, and rich with absurdity. The research also uses dedicated illustrations to comment on the topical issues and various tragicomical situations related to them. Along with its visual component, irony temporarily relieves us of tensions and enriches the text companion. The research method is based on the practice of observation of the art field, and the analysis of its exhibition spaces along with individual artists, publishing platforms, and their intersections in the art critical publications, conferences and the internet. The paper tries to study the role of the new participants, specifically exhibition architects, in the exhibition context, while subjectively highlighting both successful and unsuccessful examples. The third part presents the analysis as a clash between randomly picked material (e.g., exhibition titles) on the one hand, and the material of a distinctly different genre (e.g., slam comments) on the other, thus deliberately rejecting the entire sociology of art. Because, when preparing to their exhibitions, artists fall prey to various word games when coming up with their project titles, and end up being torn between family, friends, art theorists and art centre directors on the one hand, and their intimate desire to express themselves on the other. This is also why the third part comes without any conclusions. The author is happy to live in such a structurally obscure environment (what’s the difference whether you’re self-taught or you’ve got a degree in art management; after all, life is but collection of exceptions), as long as one has the power of an individual voice. The author is but a text, while the polyphony of other people, historical events and texts is but a context, and the latter is always bigger than the former. The voice, in which we tell our stories of art, will be most successful not only when it is unique, but also when it comes out as a scream. Palaipsniui į Lietuvos muziejus ir privačius rinkinius grįžta iš gimtinės emigravusių ir po pasaulį pasklidusių daili ninkų pavieniai darbai ir kolekcijos. Kasmet gausėja Lietuvos nacionalinio dailės muziejaus dailininkų išeivių kūrybos fondas, pasipildantis ir Lietuvos žydų (litvakų) dailininkų darbais. Vis dėlto nemažai dingusių kolekcijų dar tik laukia, kol bus atrastos, o galbūt net sugrįš į Lietuvos muziejų dailės fondus. Užmarštyje skendi ir Lietuvoje nežinomo litvako dailininko Alberto Benjamino Rappaporto (1898–1969) iš Anykščių biografija ir kūryba, o gausi jo ta pybos darbų kolekcija kol kas dingusi be žinios. Siekiant išnarplioti dailininko A. Rappaporto gyvenimo ir kūrybos gijas, bendradarbiauta su Lietuvos, JAV ir Kanados archyvais, bibliotekomis ir muziejais bei dailininko giminaičiais, remtasi periodine spauda jidiš, lietuvių, prancūzų ir anglų kalbomis. The artist Albert Rappaport was born in Anykščiai in 1898. In 1911, the family emigrated to New York. Rappaport became an American citizen in 1925 and began to travel widely. He studied fine art in New York, Paris, Dresden and Munich. He visited South America, Africa and traveled extensively through Europe (1925–1927, 1933, 1937–1939), returning to the United States now and again. The artist participated in several dozen exhibitions. He showed his work in Paris, Rome, Florence, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Copenhagen, Mexico City, Havana, New York, Calgary and Montreal, in addition to his solo exhibitions in 1937 in Warsaw and Vilnius, and in Kaunas, Riga and Tallinn in 1938. After Rappaport’s death, in March 17, 1969 in Montreal, his collection of artworks disappeared and has thus far not been found. To date, two of his painted portraits are known to exist– one belongs to the private collection of Jonathan C. Rappaport, another is on display at the Jewish Public Library in Montreal.

Taip pat yra gerųjų personažų, kurie visada padeda ir daro gerus darbus. Kilę iš primityvios mūsų nutolusių protėvių sąmonės, jie išreiškė nuostabų stabilumą. Žinoma, ne visi be išimties, tačiau būtina sutikti, kad tai daro juos dar paslaptingesnius ir patrauklesnius mums. Šiame straipsnyje nagrinėjami folkloriniai mitologiniai kazachų ir lietuvių tautų vaizdai mene. Išsiaiškinta, kad kazachų ir lietuvių mitologijose yra gana daug įvairių būtybių, persekiojusių žmogų tais tolimaisiais laikais. Straipsnyje aprašomos kai kurios mitologinės kazachų ir lietuvių būtybės, kurios buvo plačiai vaizduojamos eilėraščiuose, mituose, legendose, epuose, pasakose, vaikų pasakose, prozoje, eilėraščiuose ir mene. Mene nėra tiek daug kūrybinių darbų mitologijos tema. Atlikta kūrybinių darbų iš Kazachstano ir Lietuvos analizė, nagrinėti meno kūriniai. Išvedamas teiginys, kad kazachų mitologijoje yra daug šventų gyvūnų, tai yra iš kai kurių apraiškų matome, jog jos pagrindą sudaro totemizmas. In the folklore of any nation, there always have been the fictional characters, which in everyday life are called “evil spirits” or simply “forces of other worlds”. There are also good characters, they always help, and do good deeds. Having originated in the primitive consciousness of our remote ancestors, these characters have expressed amazing stability. Not all without exception, of course, and not in absolutely all diversity, but it is necessary to accept that this makes them even more mysterious and attractive to us. In this article, folklore mythological images of the Kazakh and Lithuanian peoples in art have been considered. As it turned out, Kazakh and Lithuanian mythologies have a rich list of various creatures that persecuted man in those distant times. The article describes some mythological creatures of Kazakh and Lithuanian mythology, whose images were widely spread in poems, myths, legends, epics, tales, children’s fairy tales, prose, poems, and in art. There are not so many creative works on the subject of mythology in art. The analysis of creative works from the Kazakh and Lithuanian works of art is made. The statement is derived that Kazakh mythology has a large number of sacred animals, that is, its basis is totemism in some of its manifestations. As for Lithuanian mythology, it tends more towards the mythology of ancient times, like the mythology of Greece, Rome, and Egypt. Lithuanians, as well as representatives of these peoples, worshiped a huge number of gods who, according to their beliefs, lived in sacred groves. The purpose of this study was to examine the problem of development of creativity of contemporary painters in Lithuania using the Method of “Intuitive Aesthetics”. Development of painter’s personality is one of the most significant problems of contemporary art psychology. Psychologists do a lot of studies, publish articles on the problem of visual communication, impact of the psychological characteristics on art creation, but not enough attention is being paid to the development of methods that would help to develop creativity. Impact of the “Intuitive Aesthetics” method as a way to step out from the stereotypes, that hinder creativity, was researched in the project for Lithuanian painters. 40 well-known Lithuanian painters took part in two En Plein Airs held in Vilnius (Lithuania) in 2018. The “Intuitive Aesthetics” method included four interactions: 1) seminar on art psychology, mindfulness and embodyment; 2) practice for developing skills of reflection; 3) live painting; 4) independent painting. The article presents the results of the research showing how the “Intuitive Aesthetics” method helped to increase the creativity of painters. Method “Intuitive Aesthetics” can be considered as psychological authentication counselling of the painters that help them to step out from the stereotypes that hinder their creativity.

The subject of this article is in-game photography, which exists as a part of our lifestyle for some time already, but struggles to become recognized as an independent form of art. Classic photography in its time managed to establish itself as a new type of art that is equal to painting and sculpture. As for in-game photography, the situation is much more complicated. If the goal of an ordinary photo is to capture the ordinary world, as something that can only be seen with a camera lens, then what is the purpose of an in-game photo if it can exist there only within the framework of some new, man-made world, inside a video game? Nowadays, there is only a small amount of research devoted to such a genre of art as in-game photography. I am trying to correct that problem by analyzing the in-game photography, its connection to its classical predecessor, and formulating the central idea of that genre. I also will try to build an approximate way of in-game photography development as a form of art in the future, using the scheme of how culture is developing and formed by human minds. I will compare it to already known forms of perceiving in-game photography as an art and provide some ways of how humanity will perceive media art in the nearest future by describing already known in-game photography studies, various genres of in-game photography, and art contests. Šiame straipsnyje analizuojama Arvydo Šliogerio Būties paieška tapyboje. Teigiama, kad nors Šliogerio pagrindinėje meno filosofijos knygoje "Daiktas ir menas" pasirinktas prancūzų tapytojo Paulio Cézanne’o paveikslas "Didžioji pušis", vis dėlto pats filosofas yra labai lietuviškas, jo mąstymas, teorinė žiūra persismelkusi lietuviška dvasia bei pasaulėjauta. Tai itin aiškiai matyti iš to, kaip jis interpretuoja Čiurlionio "Žalčio sonatos" paveikslus, žalčio viziją. Žaltys, kuris taip sakralizuojamas pagoniškoje Dzūkijos krašto tradicijoje, susyja ir su Šliogerio filotopija Dzūkijoje. Kultūriniu požiūriu tai labai toli nuo prancūziškojo Provanso regiono. Tekste taip pat bandoma aiškintis, kodėl Šliogeris nepasirinko jūrinės tematikos tapyboje. Juk Būties atverčių galima rasti ir dramatiškos audros blaškomo burlaivio tapyboje. Atsisakydamas ieškoti Būties jūrinėje tapyboje, rinkdamasis pietų Lietuvą kaip įkvėpimo regioną, jis akivaizdžiai pasirenka subjektyviai, žvelgdamas pro savojo „aš“ prizmę. Bet tikriausiai kitaip ir neįmanoma. Juk filotopija, kaip tokia, neišvengiamai presuponuoja subjektyvumą. Raktažodžiai: Būtis, žaltys, pušis, meno filosofija. In this article the author analyzes the search for Being in art according to Arvydas Šliogeris. Although Šliogeris selected the picture of "The Great Pine tree" painted by Paul Cézanne for his art philosophy – we see that in the book "The Thing and Art" – the philosopher himself is very Lithuanian, his thinking and his theoretical worldview is permeated with Lithuanian spirit. It is especially clear when he interprets Čiurlionis’ paintings titled "Sonata of the Grass Snake", the vision of the Grass Snake. A Grass Snake, who is sacred in the pagan tradition in Southern part of Lithuania called Dzūkija, is interconnected with Šliogeris’ philotopia in Dzūkija region. From the cultural point of view, it is far away from French region of Provence, which was the inspiration for Cézanne. The article also analyzes why Šliogeris did not choose the sea theme in painting. After all, the openings of Being could be found in the painting of dramatically stormy sea with a sail ship tipping over the waves. By refusing to search for Being in sea paintings, and instead opting for the region of Southern Lithuania, he evidently makes a subjective selection, looking at the world through the prism of the self “I“. It is, owever, impossible otherwise. After all, philotopia as such, inevitably presuposes subjectivity. Keywords: Being, grass snake, pine tree, art philosophy.

Straipsnyje aptariamos įvairios šiuolaikinio meno pristatymo televizijoje strategijos, tiesiogiai susijusios pirmiausia su meną pristatančiųjų vaidmenimis, televizinės medijos ir meninės praktikos pokyčiais. Teigiama, kad audiovizualiniam turiniui organizuoti įtakos turi tarp meno lauko ir auditorijos tarpininkaujantys agentai (žurnalistai, menotyrininkai, menininkai, kuratoriai, prodiuseriai, meno institucijos etc.). Remiantis Pierre’o Bourdieu meno sociologijos idėjomis, televizijos ir šiuolaikinio meno lauko bei jo dalyvių santykiai matomi kaip nuolatinės derybos dėl kūrybos viešinimo ir meno lauko dalyvių matomumo, socialinės prasmės ir meno vertės kūrimo, kultūrinio kapitalo kaupimo, vizualaus kultūrinės atminties archyvavimo, kitaip tariant – tinkamiausio meno reprezentacijos būdo, kurį lemia agento užimama pozicija nagrinėjamame lauke. Iliustruojant pavyzdžiais, analizuojamos kalbėjimo apie meną televizijoje ypatybės, šių laukų tarpusavio įtakos, kritinės praktikos, skirtingi formatai, atsižvelgiama į vadinamųjų agentų vaidmenį formuojant kintantį televizijos kaip informacinės ir kūrybinės priemonių statusą. The aim of this article is to briefly discuss the changing relationship between Lithuanian television and the contemporary art field, as well as the way that the content-producing agents in the field (journalists, art critics, artists, art institutions etc.) shape the dynamics of this relationship. The article focuses on the cases of culture and art being presented on television or, vice versa, television itself being reflected upon by art. Based on the ideas of Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology of art, the relationship between these two fields and their participants can be viewed as a continuous negotiation of publicity, production of social meaning, and archiving of cultural memory. The core concepts introduced by Bourdieu, which allow us to evaluate the legitimising power of art and the importance of television as a dissemination resource, are employed to analyse these intersections within these fields, their hierarchical divisions, and the resulting tensions. The analysis of the most notable television projects that have turned into artistic practices and were realised in Lithuania over the course of three decades, such as tvvv.plotas by the artist duo of Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas, the Contemporary Art Centre’s CAC TV, or the Art-o-thlon entertainment-oriented arts championship, reveals the diverse collaborative forms and strategies of that emerge from the interaction between television and contemporary art. In some cases, compliance with the rules of television entails a deliberate misinterpretation and misappropriation of these rules, while in others, it allows for the emergence of a new social reality where the concepts and the specific vocabulary of the field are changed and simplified, and certain established classification schemes eliminated. The article regards the relationship between art and television as a communicative act, where cultural meanings are not transmitted but rather constantly created, while the audience itself has a chance to participate as a creative collaborator free to interpret the received messages in its own way. With regard to the changing role of the television medium in the general field of information dissemination and media culture, a fundamental shift of roles is evident – with the further segmentation of audience, television retreats to the position of a neutral moderator or platform that offers the services of a (digital) public space, while art institutions, willing to be visible players in the field, initiate and produce content about themselves. Straipsnyje pasitelkiami dailininko Vinco Kisarausko (1934–1988) rankraščiai / mašinraščiai, varijuojantys nuo tekstų apie kolegų dailininkų kūrybą, atsiminimų iki mokslinės medžiagos, rinktos Kisarausko monografijai apie ekslibriso meną. Mus šiuo atveju domina dailininko tekstai, skirti kolegų kūrybos analizei, atsiminimams, kuriuose ryškėja laikotarpiui būdingas ideologinis fonas. Apie jį tiesiogiai nekalbama arba užsimenama netiesiogiai, tačiau sovietmečio latentinį ideologinį naratyvą galima pajusti iš to, kaip tam tikri dalykai, aspektai apeinami, nutylimi ar (ne)sąmoningai pateikiami kaip „neideologiniai“. Šie ideologijos maskavimo mechanizmai nebūtinai buvo įsisąmoninti, kadangi egzistavo specifinė mintijimo konjunktūra kaip tiesmukas ideologinis spaudimas ir kaip sunkiau apčiuopiama laiko makroideologinė struktūra. The article discusses the manuscripts / typescripts of the artist Vincas Kisarauskas (1934–1988) that vary from texts and memoirs about the works of colleagues and discusses also scientific material collected for Kisarauskas’ monograph on the art of ex-libris. In this case, we are interested in Kisarauskas’ texts dedicated to the analysis of colleagues’ works in which the ideological background of the time is evident. It is not directly mentioned nor alluded to, but the latent ideological narrative of the Soviet era can be felt from the way certain things and aspects are circumvented, silently or (un)deliberately presented as „non-ideological“. The mechanisms of ideological masking were not necessarily conscious. It was rather a response to outright ideological pressure. It manifested itself as the form of “aesthetic escapism.”

Šiame straipsnyje nagrinėjama, kaip per pastaruosius tris dešimtmečius – nuo 10-ojo dešimtmečio pradžios iki 2-ojo dešimtmečio pabaigos – į Lietuvos teatro lauką buvo įtrauktas auditorijos dalyvavimo reiškinys ir kaip šiuolaikiniuose Lietuvos teatro projektuose atskleidžiami 7-ojo dešimtmečio Vakarų teatro auditorijos įtraukimo metodai. Pagrindinis šio straipsnio tikslas – išnagrinėti auditorijos dalyvavimo ir kolektyvinio teatro tradicijos raidą Lietuvos teatre, išanalizuoti dalyvavimo šalies teatro lauke prielaidas, apibrėžti dalyvavimo apimtis bei pasireiškiančius prieštaravimus naujausiuose Lietuvos šiuolaikinio teatro pavyzdžiuose. Šie prieštaravimai pastebimi ne tik Lietuvos, bet ir šiandienėse performatyviose Vakarų teatro praktikose, kurios yra nutolusios nuo 7-ojo ir 8-ojo dešimtmečių kolektyvinio teatro praktikų, bet išlaiko ir selektyviai panaudoja tam tikrus aplinkos teatro dalyvavimo aspektus, kurie gali būti pritaikomi naujuose pramoginiuose teatruose. Panaši ribota dalyvaujamojo teatro sklaida Lietuvoje gali būti grindžiama priešinga prielaida – žiūrovų įpročių pokyčiai nespėja pasivyti naujai taikomų teatro praktikų, todėl Lietuvos kūrėjai vis dar stengiasi atsargiai sinchronizuoti tradicines stebėjimo taktikas su interaktyviomis, taip užkirsdami kelią ir principiniams pokyčiams, susijusiems su pastatymo ir stebėjimo strategijomis. This article explores how audience participation practices were introduced into Lithuanian theatre in the last three decades (between the early ’90s and the late 2010s) and how the audience participation methods of the 1960s Western theatre are/were being implemented into contemporary Lithuanian theatre projects. The key goal of this article is to examine the evolution of audience participation and collective theatre tradition in Lithuanian theatre by analysing the preconditions for participatory practices in the country’s theatre scene and defining the scope and contradictions of participation in the latest examples of contemporary Lithuanian theatre practices. These contradictions are also apparent in contemporary Western performative practices, which have already distanced themselves from the collective theatre movement of the ’60s and the ’70s and the political agenda of the performances of that time, selectively retaining only limited participatory aspects of the environmental theatre culture as a new form of entertainment. Similar limited levels of participation in Lithuanian theatre can be based on a different premise—that changes in spectators’ habitude cannot catch up with the newly (re)introduced theatrical ideas after the 1990s, and that theatre creators are still trying to cautiously synchronise conventional observation tactics and modern theatre hierarchies with the interactive ones, thus slowing down changes in staging and spectatorship strategies as well. The article focuses on academic texts by Lithuanian theatre researchers Ramunė Balevičiūtė, Rasa Vasinauskaitė, Rūta Mažeikienė, Jurgita Staniškytė, Vaidas Jauniškis, Lina Michelkevičė, and others to illustrate the discourse of audience participation analysis and to present different stages of the participatory tradition in the historiography of Lithuanian theatre. For international context, history, and mechanics of audience participation, texts by Erika Fischer-Lichte, Michael Kirby, Richard Schechner, Gareth White, Gay McAuley, Johan Huizinga, and others are used.

Community is a key element in a sustainable urban environment and possesses a capacity to become a major contributor in the development of it. Therefore, it is essential for communities to be active and engaged. The concept of a community and its engagement via mural art is addressed in this article. The aim of the research is to investigate the impact of mural art on community engagement and the contribution of communities to a sustainable urban environment. The research was based on materials obtained during the implementation of the "Murals for Communities" project. The aim of the project was to address the issues of community engagement in three cities with social disconnection: Waterford (Ireland), Heerlen (the Netherlands), and Kaunas (Lithuania). The engagement of the communities through mural art creation was initiated through community engagement workshops where the communities were encouraged to participate in collaborative actions resulting in the improvement of the urban environment and the strengthening of the communities themselves. In total, 54 community engagement workshops were organized and 18 murals were created in the three partner cities. The entire process of community engagement was a well-coordinated and structured framework of actors and events, where each of them played a significant role. The results of the research revealed that community engagement workshops were used as a successful tool for community bonding and strengthening. Hence, mural art is a successful tool for sustainable community development, and the process of mural creation with its various stages enables community members to be active participants of social interaction and developers of both a sustainable community and a sustainable urban environment. Only a few artifacts discovered in Lithuania can be considered as examples of portable art from the Final Palaeolithic period. Three of them were found in the Neris river valley in central-eastern Lithuania: an engraved slate pebble from the Eiguliai 1А site, a notched blade from the Skaruliai 1 site, and a flint “figurine” from the Vilnius 1 site. Discovered by Rimutė Rimantienė and her father Konstantinas Jablonskis, these three finds were the first and for many years the only artifacts underpinning the discussion of art from the Lithuanian Final Palaeolithic. The debate on the tentative function of these items, initiated by Rimantienė, is reviewed in this study before presenting the results of the latest research on the subject between 2012 and 2017, carried out using a range of methods: visual examination, comparative analysis with other archaeological finds and reconstructed prehistoric tools, surface analysis under a microscope. The functional interpretation proposed as a result of these investigations in two cases disproves the identification of these artifacts as portable art.

Profesionalus sienų tapybos restauravimas ir su tuo susiję tyrimai Lietuvoje atliekami jau daugiau nei 50 metų. Kiekvienas dešimtmetis atneša naujovių tiek restauratorių darbo kokybės ir pobūdžio, tiek ir šios profesijos santykio su visuomene srityse. Straipsnyje aptariamas bendras, vietomis gal kiek fragmentiškas sienų tapybos restauratorių veiklos ir jų darbo refleksijų dešimtmečio vaizdinys, aprėpiantis bent kelias skirtingas temas - mokslinius tyrimus apie sienų tapybą ir jos restauravimą, bendrą medijų konstruojamą požiūrį į sienų tapybą kaip paveldo dalį, galiausiai, pačių sienų tapybos restauratorių ryškiausius pasiekimus ir būdingiausias problemas. Professional restoration of wall paintings and related research has been carried out in Lithuania for more than 50 years. Each decade brings innovations both in the quality and nature of the work of restorers and in these professional relations with the public. Even a relatively narrow overview of the field of wall painting research and restoration can show the most striking trends in the development of heritage protection and restoration, revealing the meanings of cultural heritage and certain problems of cultural and architectural policy. The article discusses the general, and at the same time fragmentary visual material of the decade of wall painting restorers’ activities and reflections on their work, covering several different topics - research of the wall painting and its restoration problems, general approach to the wall paintings and the main achievements and problems. The public is still poorly informed about the restoration of wall paintings and the work of restorers, but it should be noted that there are more and more sincere patrons of heritage seeking to restore the objects in quite poor condition. The examples show that sometimes belief in the value of cultural heritage overcomes the difficult network of investing in nearly destroyed and much-needed objects. The second decade of the 21th century has been quite significant for Lithuanian wall painters. On the one hand, to the cultural heritage projects of the European Union and other international funds, which allowed the restoration of the most important cultural objects. During the decade, the many valuable wall paintings from the 15th to the 20th century, from Gothic painting to examples of Soviet art, has been researched, restored and preserved in Lithuania. While the problem remains - building contractors work with certified restorers, who often become dependent on the will of the contractors and their different wall painting restoration services - there are positive moments, as the public and scholars’ interest in wall painting restoration and preservation is growing.

Straipsnyje platesniame kitų tyrimų kontekste siekiama išnagrinėti epistemologinį meninio tyrimo statusą. Dėl savo transdisciplininio pobūdžio meninis tyrimas vertinamas dvejopai: viena vertus, meninis tyrimas gali būti interpretuojamas kaip nepagrįsta intervencija į mokslinį lauką, kita vertus, nepaisant savo išskirtinumo, meninis tyrimas visgi gali kurti žinojimą, bendramatišką su kitų disciplinų žinojimu. Pagrindinis klausimas, į kurį siekiama atsakyti: ar įmanoma pagrįsti meninį tyrimą (kaip specifinį žinojimą) remiantis jau egzistuojančiais mokslo filosofijos argumentais? In the broader context of other types of research, the authors of this article seek to analyse the epistemological status of artistic research. Because of its transdisciplinary character, artistic research is interpreted ambiguously: on the one hand, it might be treated as an unjustified and illicit intervention into the scientific field, on the other hand, despite its peculiarities artistic research still might be capable of creating knowledge commensurable with the knowledge produced in other (scientific) disciplines. The major question the article seeks to answer is the following: is it possible to justify artistic research applying ready-made arguments in the philosophy of science?

Straipsnyje įvairiais aspektais analizuojami M. K. Čiurlionio estetikos savitumą veikę veiksniai ir idėjos. Čia lietuvių menininkas traktuojamas kaip menotyrinės estetikos, tai yra „estetikos iš apačios“, atstovas, kurio laiškuose ir straipsniuose plėtojamos estetikos idėjos dažniausiai kyla iš konkrečiu kūrybinės evoliucijos tarpsniu labiausiai jaudinusių grožio, harmonijos, meninės kūrybos proceso ir tapybos bei muzikos sąveikos problemų teorinio apmąstymo. Mėgindami rekonstruoti Čiurlionio estetinių požiūrių visumą, daugiausia dėmesio sutelksime į šio menininko ryšius su jo gyvenamoje aplinkoje išplitusiomis neoromantizmo, neklasikinės ir simbolistinės bei Leonardo da Vinci estetikos idėjomis. Įvairiais aspektais aptarsime iš šių įtakų poveikio kylančius Čiurlionio estetikai būdingus požiūrius į meną kaip aukščiausių dvasinių vertybių prieglobstį, menininko misiją, muzikos iškėlimą menų hierarchijoje, požiūrius į gamtą, tapybos ir muzikos sąveiką, meninės kūrybos procesą ir kitas jį labiausiai jaudinusias estetines ir meninės kūrybos procesų psichologijos idėjas. Čiurlionis, kaip ir romantinės ir simbolistinės estetikos atstovai, buvo įsitikinęs, kad daiktuose ir gyvenimo reiškiniuose glūdinčias paslaptis gali įminti tik autentiškas dvasingas menas, kurio svarbiausia užduotis anot simbolistų – atskleisti nematomus žmogaus ir supančio pasaulio ryšius, o geriausia pagalbinė priemonė tam esąs simbolis, pasižymintis metaforiškumu, giliamintiškumu ir išskirtine apibendrinamąja galia. Todėl atsiribodamas nuo vulgaraus bedvasio sumaterialėjusio miesčioniško pasaulio, Čiurlionis skverbėsi į neaprėpiamas dvasios pasaulio erdves, tolo nuo niūrios kasdienybės į fantastinių vizijų, svajų pasaulį, siekė pakilti į amžino gėrio ir grožio karaliją, kūrė tikrovėje neegzistuojančius lakios vaizduotės sukurtus skaisčios saulės ir naktinio dangaus, mėnesienos ir žvaigždžių spiečių nušviestus pasaulius. It treats the Lithuanian artist as a representative of theoretical aesthetics, or “aesthetics from below”. Aesthetic ideas developed in his letters and articles generally derive from a theoretical comprehension of issues related to harmony, the process of artistic creativity, and the interrelationship between painting and music that excited him throughout various phases of his creative evolution. In an attempt to reconstruct the totality of Čiurlionis’s aesthetic approaches, we will focus on his relationship with the romantic, not classical, symbolist and Leonardo da Vinci aesthetic ideas that were prevalent in his living environment. We will discuss, in various aspects, the characteristic views of Čiurlionis’s aesthetics that emerged from the influence of these ideas, such as his attitudes towards art as a refuge of the highest spiritual values, the artist’s mission, the elevation of music in the hierarchy of the arts, the attitudes towards nature, the interaction between painting and music, the process of artistic creation, and other aesthetic and psychological ideas of the artistic creative processes that excited him most. In accordance with the representatives of romantic and symbolist aesthetics Čiurlionis was convinced that only authentic spiritual art can unravel the mysteries inherent in objects and life’s phenomena. According to symbolists, the most important task of art is to reveal the invisible connections between man and the world around him, and the best tool for this is the symbol, which is metaphorical, profound, and has exceptional generalizing power. Therefore, distancing himself from the vulgar, soulless, materialised, bourgeois world, Čiurlionis penetrated into the infinite spaces of the spiritual world, moved away from the gloomy daily life to the world of fantastic visions and dreams, sought to ascend the realm of the eternal goodness and beauty, and created worlds illuminated by the radiant sunshine and the night sky, the moonlight and the swarms of stars, which were inexistent in reality but created by his vivid imagination. Straipsnyje nagrinėjama Kauno knygrišyklų veikla tarpukariu. Tuo metu veikė keli jų tipai: tai spaustuvių knygrišyklos, nedidelės atskiros privačios knygrišystės įmonės ir individualiai dirbantys meistrai. Knygų įrišimo paslauga naudojosi tiek įvairios įmonės bei organizacijos, tiek privatūs asmenys. Knygrišyklų veikla, pajėgumai, siūlomos paslaugos, darbo organizavimas, ten dirbančių meistrų tapatybės, profesinis pasirengimas, klientų poreikiai ir daugybė kitų dalykų paaiškėja ištyrus archyvinius šaltinius. Iš čia sužinome, kad ir didelės spaustuvių knygrišyklos, ir mažos įmonės atlikdavo ir masinės gamybos įrišimus, ir vienetinius individualius užsakymus. O tarp jų pasitaikydavo gerokai (10 kartų) brangesnių įrišimų, todėl, tikėtina, tai buvo geresni, brangesnių medžiagų ir vienaip ar kitaip, daugiau ar mažiau dekoruoti odos įrišimai. Taip pat aiškėja, kad knygrišyklų mechanizacija nebuvo sparti, tad gamyboje dominavo rankų darbas. Kita vertus, odos puošmenų amatininkai taip pat naudojo odą ir gamino nuotraukų albumus bei užrašų knygutes, taigi ribojosi su knygrišystės amatu. O čia didelį vaidmenį suvaidino dailiųjų odos dirbinių įmonė „Šatrija“ ir ten dirbęs meistras iš Estijos Akselis Karingas. Jo pagaminti odos gaminiai stebino gausiu asortimentu, stilistinėmis ir technologinėmis naujovėmis, tad sulaukė daug dėmesio tiek parodose, tiek rinkoje, tiek žiniasklaidoje, kartu populiarindami ir šį amatą. Dar svarbiau, kad jis turėjo nemažai mokinių, kai kurie jų buvo susiję su Kauno amatų mokykla. Taigi garsioji estų odos meno mokykla turėjo įtakos lietuvių odos meno raidai ne tik sovietmečiu, bet ir anksčiau – tarpukariu. The paper analyses the work of Kaunas bookbinding studios during the Interwar period. The research resulted in a large amount of archival data on the identities of the bookbinders from that time, as well as their professional qualifications, capacities, work management, level of mechanization, services on offer, materials used, product prices and requests from clients. The research aimed to reveal the differences between the industrial, custom high-street and custom artisan bookbinding. However it turned out that they were all closely intertwined. The analysis of the documented bookbinding equipment in various workshops has shown that the process of mechanization was rather slow, and that even the mass production was dominated by manual work. Back then, many books would leave the printing presses soft covered, and authors themselves often had to personally seek out the bookbinders for more durable book covers. Back then Kaunas had several types of bookbinding studios: industrial printing house bookbinders, private bookbinding businesses, and individual artisans. However all these types of workshops were able to provide the same range of services – from mass productions to one-off books, both normal and artist editions. For instance, printing house bookbinders would not only take care of the mass production but also accept individual orders, even for one-off prints. Furthermore, all bookbinding studios were not only binding books (and documents) but also producing folders, photo albums and greeting cards, as well as padding the maps and charts with fabric and offering book ‘restoration’ services. Although Kaunas had no bookbinding school, many artistic bookbinding experts knowledgeable of the many intricacies of the craft. The craft of bookbinding often intertwined with leather decoration business – the latter also used the same materials and offered products such as photo albums and notebooks. The Interwar leather processing and bookbinding industries were highly influenced by “Šatrija”, a bookbinding company which had the Estonian expert Aksel Karing workin under their employ. He introduced some artistic and technical innovations of leather processing, thus significantly popularising this trade. The research concludes that the Lithuanian artistic bookbinding has been influenced by the Estonian school much earlier than it was thought.

Intersemiotic translation as defined by Roman Jakobson (1959) has been referred to and used in many different case studies including text and pictures or sounds. This is also the starting point for our research. We draw as well on the concept of multimodality and sketch the different historical and social functions of murals. The article consists of two research projects. The first project is based on a programme related to citizens’ cultural awareness and social inclusion launched by the municipality of Kaunas (Lithuania). We describe all the steps from the written official call to the implementation of their ideas by the artists. Two murals (2016-2018) are under systematic scrutiny. The second project refers to “Places of Interest” (2016), a project combining a photo of a place, a recorded description of the photograph and a painting derived from the recorded description by an artist living in a different country. The murals and the photo/painting are framed within a specific verbal context. We explore how the meanings are translated, how the different agents of the process interpret the directives and narratives. In the last section, we discuss further the conceptual implications of our work, especially the relevance of ‘intersemiotic translation’ and the need to re-question the concept of ‘translation’. Straipsnyje pateikiama performanso pedagogikos istorinių šaknų „Fluxus“ pedagogikoje analizės ir performanso pedagogikos praktikos Lietuvoje pavyzdžių (festivaliai AN88 (1988) ir AN89 (1989). Tyrimas susijęs su performanso pedagogikos metodų taikymu šiuolaikiniame projekte „Laiko, erdvės ir veiksmo departamentas“. Šiuo tyrimu siekiama apibrėžti performanso pedagogikos sąvokų teorijas, vartojant sąvokas „Žmogaus semiotika“ (Andersenas, 2002), „Hyper Performer“ ir „InterMedia“ (Higginsas, 1984). Šis projektas buvo įgyvendintas panaudojant kritinio utopinio veiksmo tyrimo strategiją Vilniaus dailės akademijoje. Empirinė medžiaga surinkta man dirbant kviestine dėstytoja ir atliekant pedagoginę stažuotę Vilniaus dailės akademijoje. Tyrimo rezultatai – apibrėžtos pagrindinės performanso pedagogikos sąvokų teorijos ir patikrintos šių sąvokų ir terminijos taikymo galimybės meno ir švietimo projektuose. Šie rezultatai gali būti naudingi dėstantiems menininkams. Educators practice performance pedagogy as the method where an educator/facilitator is seen as a performer or actor (Pineau 1994, p. 4). This paper presents an analysis of the historical roots of performance pedagogies in Fluxus pedagogies and performance pedagogy practices within participatory art events in Lithuania as exemplified by festivals AN88 (1988) and AN89 (1989). The case of my research rests on the contemporary implementation of performance pedagogy techniques during the course The Temporary Department of Time, Space, and Action for BA students at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania. This research aims to define the concept theories within performance pedagogy in the art academy education, which developed behind the terms Human Semiotics (Andersen 2002), Hyper Performer,1 and InterMedia (Higgins 1984). This project was implemented using the strategy of critical utopian action research in the context of the Vilnius Academy of Arts. The empirical material was gathered during my employment as a guest lecturer and the implementation of my pedagogical internship at the Vilnius Academy of Arts.2 These concept theories are defined through. a reflexive analysis of archive material on the historical origin of performance pedagogies, originating in Fluxus pedagogies, local Lithuanian participatory art, and data from the contemporary case of my project The Temporary Department of Time, Space and Action (2018), in the form of archive material, photographs, interviews, observations, notes, and my diary. The results of this research are the application of performance pedagogy concepts and terminology to the art and education projects and the definition of the key concept theories within this field. These results can be useful for artists and those practicing university pedagogy.

Straipsnyje lyginamuoju aspektu aptariama viena seniausių Mesopotamijos regione po šumerų suklestėjimo iškilusi Babilono civilizacija. Autorių domina ne tik specifiniai jos genezės aspektai, santykiai su anksčiau čia gyvavusiomis ir lygiagrečiai besiskleidžiančiomis kitomis civilizacijomis bei tautomis. Daugiausia dėmesio skiriama Babilono civilizacijos religinės sistemos, kultūrinio fondo, valstybės valdymo aparato, socialinės organizacijos aptarimui. Taip pat daug dėmesio skiriama laimėjimams astronomijos, matematikos, medicinos, teisės, architektūros, vaizduojamosios dailės ir literatūros srityse. The article provides a comparative discourse on the ancient Babylonian civilization which emerged in Mesopotamia during the decline of Sumerian civilization. The author is especially interested in its genesis and complex relations with neighboring cultures and nations. He focuses on Babylonian religion, culture, administration and social institutions. Much attention is also paid to the Babylonian achievements in astronomy, mathematics, medicine, law, architecture, visual arts and literature.

Straipsnyje susitelkiama į religijos ir šiuolaikinio meno santykį, kurio konfigūracijos aptariamos iš dviejų skirtingų – sekuliarizacijos ir postsekuliaraus būvio – perspektyvų. Teigiama, kad sekuliarizacijos požiūriu religijos ir meno sritys matomos kaip autonomiškos ir nesusisiekiančios, o slinktis link postsekuliaraus diskurso implikuoja principinę autonomijos (tiek religijos, tiek meno srityse) sąlygos destrukciją, šiuo būdu atverdama galimybę grįžti prie religijos ir meno laukų persiklojimo. Pažymima, kad postsekuliarybės kontekste religijos ir šiuolaikinio meno santykis tampa įmanomas tik priimant šiuolaikiniam menui būdingą tiesioginės reprezentacijos principo atsisakymą, o tai reikštų, kad religinės implikacijos tampa atpažįstamos ne kaip religinių turinių reprezentacijos, bet veikiau kaip religiškumo pėdsakas, neretai įgaunantis profanacijos ir refleksijos apie sekuliarizacijos patirtį formas. The article deals with the relationship between religion and contemporary art, discussing their configurations from two different perspectives – the one of secularization and the postsecular one. The author mantains that in the perspective of secularization the fields of religion and art are treated as autonomous and separate, therefore the passage to postsecular condition implicates the destruction of principle law of autonomy, by this opening the possibility of the interlaying of the contexts of religion and art. The article comes to the conclusion that postsecular approach supposes that the relationship between religion and contemporary art becomes possible only by accepting the refusal of the direct representation and this means that religious implications can be recognised not as the representations of religious contents, but rather as the track of them, which can assume the forms of profanation or reflection on the experience of secularization.

Žygimanto Augusto medalio perdirbinys, sujungęs portretinio averso kopiją su iš kabučio perdarytu reversu, straipsnyje interpretuojamas kaip karaliaus asmens ir valdžios komentaras. Pasitelkus vaizdinius ir rašytinius šaltinius, tyrime konstruojamas istorinis Giovanniui Giacomui Caragliui priskiriamo originalo ir jo perdirbinio kontekstas išskleidžiant dvipusio medalio potencialą apversti prasmes. This enquiry focuses on the portrait medal of King Sigismund Augustus attributed to the goldsmith Giovanni Giacomo Caraglio; the medal and its remake are kept in the Ashmolean Museum of the University of Oxford. The medal features in Caraglio’s portrait painted by Paris Bordone in 1553, and is therefore also dated to the same year. The obscure occasion for which the medal was cast prompts reconsidering the relation between its obverse and reverse. The obverse features the bust of the king in profile facing left, while the reverse depicts the figure of Faith encircled with the quote from Virgil’s Aeneid: “DVM SPIRITVS HOS REGET ARTVS” (“As long as the spirit directs these limbs”, IV, 336). Avigdor W.G. Posèq has convincingly argued that the left-facing orientation of the profile coincides with the direction towards the past and is often used when representing humanists, females, minors, and clergymen rather than kings and politicians who are responsible for shaping the future. What is the message behind the medal that depicts the king looking towards the past in combination with the personification of Faith and Aeneas’ promise to remember Dido? This essay argues that this combination acknowledges Sigismund Augustus’ acceptance of his royal duties and his resolution to remain faithful to the Catholic creed of his ancestors in the wake of the death of his beloved spouse Queen Barbara Radziwill (1523–1551). Although, due to Virgil’s authority and the privileged genre of medal art, this item has been regarded as high art, the association between the queens Barbara and Dido bore significant misogynist and erotic undertones. The latter have been exploited in the remake of the medal as its bronze aftercast was adjoined to a former pendant featuring Venus and Mars surprised by Vulcan and Olympian gods mocking them. Due to the identification of the hitherto obscured iconography of the reverse as well as the references to the Reposianus’ epyllion together with Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Ars Amatoria as its literary sources, this unique medallic remake comes across as a humorous gesture. The paper argues that the reverse being fixed to the obverse along the horizontal axis allowed the viewers to reveal the erotic reputation of the king and, by doing so, turn the image of Augustus (meaning, literally, “the elevated one”) head upside down. This way, by a mere twist of fingers, the contradictory combination of reverse and obverse of this medallic remake allowed the erudite and powerful onlookers to join the Olympian gods in their laughter.

Straipsnyje remiantis simbolinio interakcionizmo teorijai atstovaujančio meno sociologo Howardo Beckerio idėjomis, analizuojamos kolektyvinės sovietmečio atminties interpretacijos režisierės G. Beinoriūtės ir tapytojos J. Kluonės darbuose. Analizė paremta pusiau struktūruotų interviu su kūrėjomis rezultatais. Straipsnyje siekiama apjungti dvi iki šiol Lietuvoje paprastai atskirtas kolektyvinės sovietmečio atminties tyrimo sritis: menotyrinę ir sociologinę. Išeities tašku laikydamas simbolinio interakcionizmo vieną iš pamatinių teiginių, kad prasmės yra kuriamos sąveikaujant su kitais, H. Beckeris meną apibrėžia kaip „kolektyvinį veiksmą“. Straipsnyje ši idėja išplėtojama parodant, kad abi menininkės savo šeimų sovietmečio trauminių patirčių pasirinkimą kūrybos objektu aiškina siekiu įprasminti artimųjų išgyvenimus. Akcentuojama, kad toks įprasminimas įmanomas tik pasidalijus savo istorija su visuomene, kurioje tremties, Sibiro simbolika yra atpažįstama ir vertinama. Kitaip tariant, prasmės pojūtis atsiranda šeimos atminčiai tapus tautos kolektyvinės sovietmečio atminties dalimi. Be to, neperžengiant pasirinktos teorijos rėmų pažymima, kad kūrinio pristatymas visuomenei yra būtina sąlyga, kad tam tikras kūrinys įgautų meno kūrinio statusą. Kolektyvinės atminties klausimai šiandien laikomi peržengiančiais nacionalinių valstybių ribas, todėl teigiama, kad Lietuvos menininkių darbų analizė atskleidžia panašių tyrimų transnacionaliniu lygmeniu poreikį. The article focuses on the analysis of interpretations of the collective memory of Soviet past provided in the works of film director Giedrė Beinoriūtė and painter Jūratė Kluonė. The analysis is carried out by following the ideas of symbolic interactionism theory representative Howard Becker and is based on the results of semi-structural interviews. The article aims at connecting two usually separate fields of collective memory research in Lithuania – those of art criticism, history and sociology. Following one of the main ideas of symbolic interactionism, i.e. the meaning is created through the relationships, H. Becker describes art as ‘collective action’. In the article this idea is developed by showing that both artists explain choosing their families’ traumatic Soviet experiences as an object for their artistic creation because of their wish to give a meaning to those experiences. It is emphasized that the giving of meaning is possible only if the family’s history is shared with the society which recognizes and values the symbols of deportation and Siberia. In other words, the feeling of meaning appears when the family’s collective memory becomes a part of nation’s collective memory. Furthermore, within the framework of selected theory, it is emphasized that the presentation of the particular creation to society is a prerequisite for this creation to gain a status of a real work of art. However, nowadays it is said that the questions related to collective memory transcend the borders of national states. Therefore, it is claimed that the analysis of Lithuanian artists’ works reveals the need of similar research at the international level.

Šiame straipsnyje gilinamasi į Mamerto Indriliūno (1920–1945) kūrybinį palikimą, kuris ilgą laiką buvo visai nežinomas, likęs tarpukario ir karo metų leidiniuose. 2019 m. literatūrologo Virginijaus Gasiliūno parengti raštai liudija buvus jau brandų kultūros žmogų, kuriam rūpėjo aiškintis, kas yra menas, ką reiškia literatūra, kokie šiuolaikinės kultūros iššūkiai. M. Indriliūnas siekė svarstyti esminius estetikos klausimus, kuriuos kėlė XX a. filosofai, gilinosi į savo laiko autorių kūrybą, ėmėsi vertimų, analizavo lietuvių meninės raiškos specifiką. Kultūrologiniai tekstai neatrodo pasenę iki šiol, todėl įdomu aptarti jų pasirodymo kontekstus, analizuoti sąsajas su kitais to meto autoriais. Išskirtina yra tai, kad nemažai M. Indriliūno nurodytų kultūros problemų tebėra aktualios iki šiol, ypač tai pasakytina apie santykį su savo kultūriniu paveldu. This article describes Mamertas Indriliūnas’ texts, which were written on the eve of the Second World War and already during the war and remained completely unknown. One of the most important themes is culture, which is perceived as belonging to everybody, without excluding any classes. He emphasizes the idea of decentralization, encourages intellectuals of his generation not to be afraid of the countryside, to draw new creative impulses from this environment. At the same time, he emphasizes that culture cannot be based on the same forms: as life changes, so does creative work. Indriliūnas notices the lack of inwardness in Lithuanian culture, associates it with superficial spirituality, more external than internal, therefore it encourages religious renewal, a new spirit of Christianity. These texts were an imperative both for himself and for his generation, which came to cultural life at this time of epoch-making: it is the generation of Vytautas Mačernis, Bronius Krivickas, Kazys Bradūnas, Henrikas Nagys, Alfonsas Nyka-Niliūnas.

Straipsnyje įvairiais aspektais analizuojami M. K. Čiurlionio estetikos savitumą veikę veiksniai ir idėjos. Čia lietuvių menininkas traktuojamas kaip menotyrinės estetikos, tai yra „estetikos iš apačios“, atstovas, kurio laiškuose ir straipsniuose plėtojamos estetikos idėjos dažniausiai kyla iš konkrečiu kūrybinės evoliucijos tarpsniu labiausiai jaudinusių grožio, harmonijos, meninės kūrybos proceso ir tapybos bei muzikos sąveikos problemų teorinio apmąstymo. Daugiausia dėmesio tyrime sutelkiama į Čiurlionio estetikos ryšius su su romantizmo meno filosofijos idėjomis. Straipsnyje įvairiais aspektais gvildenamas menas kaip aukščiausių dvasinių vertybių prieglobstis, menininko misija, muzikos iškėlimas menų hierarchijoje. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of factors and ideas that had an impact on Čiurlionis’ aesthetic peculiarity. It treats the Lithuanian artist as a representative of theoretical aesthetics, or “aesthetics from below”. Aesthetic ideas developed in his letters and articles generally derive from a theoretical comprehension of issues related to harmony, the process of artistic creativity, and the interrelationship between painting and music that excited him throughout various phases of his creative evolution. The principal attention in this piece of research is to the connections between Čiurlionis’ aesthetics and the ideas of major traditions of romanticism in art. The article particularly focuses on the multi-dimensional discussion of art as the artist’s highest mission and refuge for spiritual values, the elevation of music in the hierarchy of arts, the idea of the intimate links between different forms of art.

Šiame straipsnyje nagrinėjama iki šiol dėmesio nesusilaukusi problema – Lietuvos internetinių naujienų laikraščių vaidmuo COVID-19 pandemijos metu. Straipsnio tikslas – pateikti trijų Lietuvos internetinių laikraščių kiekybinį ir kokybinį tyrimą atsižvelgiant į Pasaulio ekonomikos forumo (toliau – PEF) strateginės analizės modelį ir, remiantis gautais duomenimis, įvertinti Lietuvos žiniasklaidos vaidmenį COVID-19 pandemijos metu. Tyrime buvo taikoma kiekybinė ir kokybinė žiniasklaidos turinio analizė. Tyrimo tikslai: 1) išsiaiškinti, ar pasirinkti Lietuvos internetiniai laikraščiai atskleidžia tas temas, kurioms, pagal PEF strateginės analizės modelį, žiniasklaida koronaviruso pandemijos metu turi poveikį ir su kuriomis yra glaudžiai susijusi; 2) palyginti, kokiu dažnumu internetiniuose laikraščiuose pasirodo su nagrinėjamomis temomis susijusios publikacijos ir kaip jų periodiškumas skiriasi tarp pačių internetinių laikraščių; 3) nustatyti pagrindines Lietuvos žiniasklaidoje aptariamas su COVID-19 susijusias potemes. Straipsnį sudaro dvi dalys: mokslinių šaltinių nagrinėjimas ir tiriamoji dalis. Pirmojoje dalyje aprašomas tyrimo metodas. Antrojoje dalyje pateikiamas aukščiau apibūdintas trijų Lietuvos žiniasklaidos priemonių kiekybinis ir kokybinis tyrimas. Apibendrinus galima teigti, kad Lietuvos internetinių naujienų laikraščiai atskleidė nurodytas temas COVID-19 pandemijos metu. Tyrimas parodė, kad daugiausiai publikacijų minėtomis temomis skelbė Delfi.lt, mažiau Lrt.lt, o mažiausiai 15min.lt. Daugiausia publikacijų buvo skirta visuotinės sveikatos temai, o mažiausiai – kultūros ir meno temai. Visuotinės sveikatos temos plotmėje daugiausia dėmesio buvo skiriama prevencinės pandemijos valdymo funkcijos potemei, visuotiniame valdyme – užsienio valstybių situacijos potemei, žmogaus teisių temoje - laisvės pažeidžiamumo potemei, o kultūroje ir mene – renginių saugumo potemei. The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Strategic Analysis Model outlines areas where the role of the media is important during a pandemic, so these areas may be selected to examine how the Lithuanian media perform their public information function during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study of the content of the Lithuanian media clarifies whether the media take into account the areas that, according to the WEF strategic analysis model, the media has an impact during the COVID-19 outbreak. This should provide new insights into the priorities and communication strategies of the Lithuanian media, especially in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. The aim of the article is to present three Lithuanian online newspapers quantitative and qualitative research and, in the context of the WEF Strategic Analysis model and, based on the data obtained, to assess the role of the Lithuanian media during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been established that during the pandemic, Lithuanian online media pay sufficient attention to the topic of general governance: good and bad cases of health crisis management are shown to the public. However, during the research it became clear that international news on the topic of global governance dominates in Lithuanian news media: the media pay more attention to events in the international arena, and the challenges of Lithuania‘s internal management account for only a fifth of all information in the researched online newspapers. The article was prepared by Vilnius University journalism master students (2020). Straipsnyje, remiantis Kazimierzo Malewicziaus teoriniu ir tapybiniu palikimu, aptariama muziejinės atminties ir jos inspiruoto meno kūrinio samprata, atskleidžiamas ją subrandinęs idėjinis suprematizmo kontekstas bei jo raida. Straipsnį sudaro trys dalys. Pirmoje glaustai supažindinama su suprematizmo plastinės sistemos raida konceptualių modelių link. Antroje dalyje nagrinėjama šią raidą inspiravusi meno ontologijos ir meno kūrinio suvokimo problematika. Trečioje dalyje, remiantis ankstesniais apibendrinimais, aptariama Malewicziaus siūloma muziejinės atminties ir muziejinio artefakto samprata, atspindinti vėlyvąjį suprematizmo įdėjų etapą ir jo inspiruotą „realistinės tapybos“1 recidyvą. Atskleidžiama, kaip ankstyvąjį suprematizmą, grindusį tikėjimą istorine pažanga, keitė vėlyvajam suprematizmui būdinga orientacija į antlaikę tikrovę. Based on the theoretical and pictorial legacy of Kazimierz Malewicz, The article, discusses the concept of museum memory and the work of art inspired by it. The context of the ideas of suprematism, that has matured this concept, is presented. The article consists of three parts. The first briefly introduces the development of the plastic system of suprematism towards conceptual models. The second part examines the problems of art ontology and perception of a work of art that inspired this development. Based on previous generalizations, the third part discusses the concept of museum memory and museum exhibit that reflects the late stage of the ideas of suprematism and the recidivation of “realistic painting” inspired by it. It is revealed how the belief in historical progress upon which early suprematism was based was replaced by the orientation towards a reality beyond time, inherent in late suprematism.

Straipsnyje aptariama 1924 m. rugsėjo 15 d. Vilniaus „Apollo“ kino teatre atidaryta Vilniaus meno ir amatų paroda ir pateikiamos spaudos bei meno kritikų apžvalgos. Parodoje ypatingas dėmesys buvo skirtas amatams, kas tuo pačiu demonstravo organizatorių požiūrį į tradicijas ir modernybę. Amatininkų dirbiniai sudarė maždaug du trečdalius visos parodos. Amatų sekcija buvo itin įvairi – nuo puodininkystės, pavyzdžiui, Azarewicziaus dirbtuvėje pagamintų ir, pasak Przegląd Wileński žurnalisto, „vietine maniera“ padabintų puodų, iki „Lux“ leidyklos pristatytų grafikos maketų. Greta tapybos, skulptūros ir monumentaliosios dailės buvo pristatyta ir Bułhako, Siemaszko, Wysockio bei Świętochowskos meninė fotografija, kuri, pasak komentatorių, sudarė „pagrindinę Vilniaus menininkų veiklos dalį“. Toks platus meninių vizijų diapazonas leido pasireikšti įvairiausioms 3 deš. Vilniaus meno kryptims. The paper analyses the Exhibition of Arts and Crafts opened on 15 September 1924 at the Vilnius Apollo Cinema and presents the press re-views of artistic critics. Particular attention is paid to artistic craftsmanship which demonstrates the attitude of the exhibition’s organisers to tradition and modernity. Crafts constituted about two thirds of the exhibits. The sec-tion was essentially varied and ranged from the Azarewicz / Azarevich Pottery Workshop decorated, according to the journalist of Przegląd Wileński in the “native way”, to graphic layout proposals of the Lux Publishers. In addition to painting, sculpture, monument designs, and the artistic photography of Bułhak, Siemaszko, Wysocki, and Świętochowska were presented with the comment that they constituted the “prime section of Vilnius artistic activity”. Such a wide range of artistic visions allowed various trends in the development of 1920’s Vilnius art to be shown.

Nors atrodo, kad apie kinematografą tekstų prirašyta begalybė, išnagrinėti iš pagrindų įvairūs šaltiniai, išdiskutuotos kino meno kilmės teorijos, išnarstyti iki smulkmeniškumų ankstyvieji kino aparatai, išsiaiškinti technologiniai dalykai, perrašytos ir vėl papildytos pirmųjų kino pionierių biografijos, o ir pats kinas tapęs neatsiejama kasdienio gyvenimo dalimi, tačiau tekstai apie kinematografą ir toliau rašomi, bandant į visą šį reikalą pažvelgti vis kitais pjūviais. Tikrai yra tęsiami tyrinėjimai archyvų dokumentuose, tikslinami pavieniai biografiniai duomenys, detaliai nagrinėjami atsivėrę pasaulio informaciniai aruodai, dar kartą peržiūrinėjami išlikę kino kadrai ir rašoma daug tekstų vis tikintis atrasti ką nors nauja. Tad ir šis tekstas taip pat nėra išimtis. Čia rašoma apie viltį ir lūkesčius, apie pasipriešinimą ir abejones, apie tikėjimą ir draudimus. Nes kinematografui, kaip „XIX a. stebuklui“, buvo prognozuojama ateitis, kurioje „bus galima stebėti tuščioje salėje ant balto audinio rodomus garsiausius teatro vaidinimus (operas ir dramas) be gyvai atliekančių vaidmenis garsiausių pasaulio aktorių bei girdėti jų balsus be suflerio žodžių, matyti madingiausius drabužius ir įvairiausią gyvenimo buitį bei klausytis ypatingai gerai grojančio orkestro“.

Straipsnyje remiantis kinų mąstytojo Liezi ir Vakarų filosofų – Husserlio, Nietzsche’ės, Kierkegardo, Anaksimeno, Epikūro – idėjomis nagrinėjama autentiško meninio mąstymo problema. Autentiškas meninis mąstymas – tai kūrėjo spontaniška natūrali laikysena atliekamos veiklos, jį supančios aplinkos atžvilgiu. The authentic artistical thinking – the creator’s spontaneous natural bearing in respect of an executable activity and with regard to the surrounding environment. This problem is the most expressed in the aesthetics and in the philosophy of art of heterogenuous East / West civilizations. Straipsnyje aptariami Jurgio Baltrušaičio (1903–1988) iškreiptoms perspektyvoms skirti veikalai, kuriuose analizuojama anamorfozės, aberacijos, egiptomanijos raiška ir iškraipančių veidrodžių istorija. Dėmesys sutelkiamas į juose aptinkamas nuorodas į jėzuitų mokslininko Athanasijaus Kircherio (1602–1680) traktatus. Straipsnyje klausiama, kas paskatino Baltrušaitį susidomėti ir leistis į dialogą su vokiečių vizionieriumi. Atidžiai skaitant ir analizuojant Baltrušaičio darbus, aiškėja, kad ikimoderniame Kircherio mąstyme menotyrininkas atrado tarpines sritis, egzistuojančias tarp meno ir mokslo, meno ir gamtos, dailės ir socialinės vaizduotės, kurios tapo aktualesnės postmodernizmo laikotarpiu. Kircherio traktatai, iki tol nenagrinėti meno istorijos kontekste, paskatino plėtoti vaizdų tyrimus, orientuojantis į įvairesnius vizualinius reiškinius, kurie ilgą laiką liko už autonominio meno istorijos lauko ribų. Atmetęs estetinį ir evoliucinį požiūrį į dailės istoriją, Baltrušaitis aptariamų veikalų cikle atskleidė antropologinius ir ontologinius vaizdų matmenis, parodydamas, kad vaizdas visada susijęs su vaizdine patirtimi ir vaizduote, kuri perkelia mus už realybės horizonto. The article explores the works of Jurgis Baltrušaitis on depraved perspectives. In particular, it examines his references to Jesuit scholar Athanasius Kircher in the books dedicated to anamorphoses, aberrations, Egyptomania and distorting mirror’s reflections. The paper questions what led Baltrušaitis to the dialogue with the German visionary. The close reading of Baltrušaitis works reveals that in Kircher’s pre-modern thinking the art historian found those domains of between-the-two, communalities of art and science, art and nature, art and social imaginary that have become more important in postmodernist period. Kircher’s treatises, previously uninterpreted in the context of art history, encouraged the development of the broader studies of images focused on visual phenomena that remained for a long time outside the autonomous field of art history. Without privileging an aesthetic and evolutionary approach in art history, Baltrušaitis’ works reveal anthropological and ontological dimensions of images. They disclose that the image is always related to visual experience and imagination, which takes us beyond the horizon of reality.

Lietuvos fotografija yra viena geriausiai aprašytų, tačiau nė vienoje išsamioje pasaulio fotografijos istorijos studijoje nėra autorių ar fotografų iš Lietuvos. Kodėl vis dar susiduriame su „nežinomos Lietuvos fotografijos“ situacija? Šis fundamentalus klausimas skatina kelti tolesnius: ar galime bent įsivaizduoti kitokią Lietuvos fotografijos istoriją? Straipsnyje siūloma iš naujo įsivaizduoti Lietuvos fotografijos naratyvą. Pirmiausia, imamasi Lietuvos fotografijos nacionalinio išskirtinumo problemos, remiantis Greimo konceptualizuota sąvokų „čia“ ir „ten“ opozicija, aiškinamasi, kas iš tikrųjų laikoma Lietuvos fotografija. Straipsnyje propaguojamas istoriografinio diskurso pratęsimas ir įtraukumas peržengtų netgi už Didžiosios Lietuvos Kunigaikštystės ribas, atsiveriant kitoms fotografijos tradicijoms: vokiečių, rusų, lenkų, žydų ar amerikiečių. Antra, straipsnio autorius ragina pradėti „fotografijos išmokyklinimo“ procesą, sustiprinant įkvepiantį Lietuvos fotografijos heterogeniškumą ir priešinantis sovietmečiu sukurtam vadinamosios Lietuvos fotografijos mokyklos mitui. Trečia, siūloma ieškoti sąsajų su pačios medijos takia tapatybe, kurią išnaudojo neapibrėžta FLUXUS grupė, susibūrusi aplink emigrantus iš Lietuvos Jurgį Mačiūną ir Joną Meką. Galiausiai, kas paprastai, regis, lieka nepastebėta Lietuvos fotografiją supančiame diskurse, tai jos poetinė išraiškos kalba. Galbūt tai ir nėra didingi istorinės reikšmės momentai, bet, kaip pastebi Jonas Mekas, tie „trumpi grožio blyksniai“ apibūdina mūsų gyvenimus. The article proposes a critical re-thinking of the multi-layered phenomenon of Lithuanian photography. From the beginning, in the 19th century Lithuanian photography cherished an exceptional status within a cultural landscape, being considered a vehicle of lofty, patriotic emotions. The article is reassessing the social and cultural role of Lithuanian photographers and is looking into a symptomatic lack of synchronicity with the medium’s grand narratives. The Lithuanian history of photography seems to be a consistent and exceptional narrative developed within a relatively small milieu of artists based in their homeland as well as Lithuanian émigrés. According to the author, indexical and documentary qualities of photography constitute the core of the phenomenon. The text is advocating inclusivity for non-Lithuanian authors, be it Polish Lithuanians, Russians, Jews, Germans, or Lithuanian Americans. Looking at photographs from the perspectives of literature (quoting Marcelijus Martinaitis and Tomas Venclova) and contemporary art (Jonas Mekas and Fluxus) may be also useful in reshaping and opening up the discourse of the discipline.

Šio straipsnio metodologinis pagrindas ‒ Sergejaus Rapoporto (1934‒2017) sociologinės įžvalgos. Sinestezijos estetika – tai pirmiausia daugybiški, didžiąja dalimi neistoriški, juslių sąveikų vektoriai, persmelkiantys žmogaus kuriamą kultūrą. XIX–XX a. tradicinėje estetikoje jie dažniausiai atpažįstami meno ir skirtingų meno rūšių sąveikos plotmėje, bet ilgainiui atrandama, jog jie aprėpia visą įkūnytą, įsisąmonintą arba neartikuliuotą gyvybinę žmonių veiklą, kuri skleidžiasi jusliškai (sensorially) komunikuojant istorinių analogų neturinčiomis megasociumo sąlygomis. Sinestezijos estetika taip pat apima įvairialypes, nebūtinai homogeniškas, integruotos ir sąveikaujančios juslinės žmogaus plotmės apraiškas. Tradicinėse, beveik iki XX a. pabaigos viešpatavusiose estetinėje mintyje sinestezijos fenomeno interpretacijose daugiausia buvo aptarinėjami programiniai skirtingų menų sąveikos atvejai. Tai buvo mėginimas sinesteziją palenkti ir apriboti Vakarų estetikos tradicijoje kaip jos dar vieną, tegul ir prieštaringą, aspektą. Tačiau XXI a. išaugus sinestezijos tyrimų masyvui, tokia sinestezijos padėtis tapo kvestionuotina, o sinestezijos estetinis artikuliavimas ne tik pasislinko už meno ribų, apimdamas visą žmogaus veiklą gyvenamame pasaulyje. Maža to, sinestezijos estetika apėmė pačią žmogaus savivoką, pripažindama daugiasluoksnes juslių sąveikas natūraliu ir legitimiu pasaulio patyrimo būdu, kuris individui visų pirma turi estetinę vertę. The aesthetics of synaesthesia, first of all, is the compilation of diverse, mostly non-historical vectors with sensory interactions, which permeate the human-made culture. In traditional aesthetics of the 19th−20th centuries, these vectore are most recognised on the plane of interactions between art and the different types of art. Over time, however, it has been discovered that they cover all embedded, conscious or non-articulated vital human activities, which unfold sensorially in the conditions of the megasocium, which has no historical analogues. The aesthetics of synaesthesia also includes multifaceted and not necessarily homogeneous manifestations, integrated and interacting in a sensual human plane. In the traditional aesthetic thought, which prevailed almost until the end of 20th century, the interpretations of the synaesthesia phenomenon were mainly concerned with programmed cases of interaction between different arts. This was an attempt to predispose and limit synaesthesia in the Western aesthetic tradition as yet another, even though a controversial, aspect. In the 21st century, with the growth of synaesthesia research, the synaesthesia situation became questionable and the aesthetic articulation of synaesthesia moved beyond the boundaries of art to encompass all human activity in the living world. Moreover, the aesthetics of synaesthesia covered the selfperception of the personality. It recognised the interactions of multilayered senses in a natural and legitimate way of experiencing the world, which primarily has aesthetic value for an individual.

Svarstoma, kad mene – ypač reprezentuojant veidą – glūdi monstriškumo ir nežmogiškumo elementas. Parodoma, kad iš E. Levino perspektyvos menas, suteikdamas veidui plastinę formą, pirma, jį įkalina bei neišvengiamai paverčia karikatūra. Antra, veidas meninėje formoje praranda laikiškumą. Tai, kas gyvybinga, išraiškinga, yra sulaikyta, nesikeičia, yra nepažeidžiama ir todėl nėra etinis Kito veidas. Straipsnyje laikomasi nuomonės, kad E. Levinas kritikuoja ne tiek meną, kiek estetizavimą. Meno prasmė iš naujo atrandama grąžinant jį į platesnį pasaulio kontekstą – socialinį, kultūrinį, politinį, o visų pirma – etinį. The article peruses the idea that art, and more specifically, representation of the face, has something monstrous and uncanny in it. The author concentrates on Levinas’s philosophy and shows that, first, art by giving the image to the face, freezes it in a plastic form and by this means turns it inevitably into a caricature. Second, face in art, unlike alive face, lacks temporality. What is lively, what is human expression is locked, not able to change, not exposed to vulnerability and therefore no longer is an ethical face of the Other. The article argues that Levinas does not reject the art but tries to re-locate it in a larger context of world: its meaning comes from being engaged in the word: social, cultural, political and above all ethical context.

This article considers the principles of philosophical thinking m Seren Kierkegaard's neoclassical aesthetics. Special attention is given to his radical critique of "false" and "impersonal" rationalism. This does not only mean the rejection of the traditional principles of classical metaphysics which claims "universality" and "universal meaning." Kierkegaard also bases his philosophy on individual human life, or, in other words, personal existence with its unique inner world. His critique is more profound than that by Arthur Schopenhauer. Kierkegaard develops his own philosophy of "existential crisis," opposing subjective will and internal changes to abstract thinking and external influences. Kierkegaard's works initiate the critical or nonclassical stage in Western aesthetics. The main place in it is occupied by the idea of the disharmony of the world: its subjective reflection is "split" consciousness that has lost contact with the traditional concepts of harmony, humanism, goodness, beauty and philosophy of art. His philosophy of art is that of the internal personal world and of free choice. He opposes the famous motto of Cartesian rationalism cogito ergo sum, his own statement "I am here and think because I do exist here." So the notion of existence becomes fundamental for his philosophical reflection which is focused on the topics of personal existence, destiny and perspectives of being. Since personal becoming never stops, the ability to exist is treated as a great art The aim of genuine philosophy is not a knowledge of the external world but an inquiry into the deepest problems of personal being and creativity, its greatest enigma is existence. Hence Kierkegaard gives a new subject and new tasks to aesthetics and philosophy of art. When treating the problems of individual human existence. Kierkegaard and other followers of nonclassical aesthetics relied on an understanding of being as non-substantial (personality is not something given but a totality of constantly emerging potentials) and at the same time subjectivized their ontological problems. Thus the strengthening of subjectivist tendencies in the post-Hegelian philosophy of art reaches here culmination. "Subjective ontology." or "ontology" jn the narrow sense of the word, is that which we can call the "pontaneous ego": It determines the unconscious functioning of human "existence" in a specific individual consciousness. The whole individual existence is enclosed, as it were, in a subjective environment, but we cannot affirm that existence is subjective.

Asirijos imperija, arba Naujoji Asirijos karalystė -- Beveik tobula Asirijos karo mašina -- Ekonominės, politinės ir socialinės sandaros ypatumai -- Kultūra ir menas. Greta Babilonijos kiti Šiaurės Mesopotamijos teritorijoje iškilę su jos civilizacijos istorija glaudžiai susiję reikšmingi ir nuolatos dėl įtakos konkuravę civilizaciniu požiūriu svarbūs valstybiniai organizmai buvo Senoji, Vidurinioji ir Naujoji Asirijos karalystės. Visų minėtų valstybių nuo atsiradimo iki pat jų žlugimo ryšys su Babilono civilizacija sąlygoja paskirų mokslininkų vengimą išskirti "Asirijos civilizaciją" kaip savarankišką civilizacinį darinį. Tačiau toks požiūris nėra visiškai pagrįstas, nes asirų civilizacija, nepaisant akivaizdžių sąsajų su Babilonijos kultūriniu kosmosu, daugeliu savo pamatinių tipologinių bruožų vis dėlto skiriasi nuo Babilono civilizacijos. Lyginant su Babilonu ir Mesopotamijos pietumis, kuriuose buvo daug saulės, šilumos ir vandens, asirų genčių apgyvendinta teritorija išsiskyrė sudėtingesnėmis gamtinėmis sąlygomis. "Asirijoje, – rašo Herodotas, – mažai lyja, bet to lietaus užtenka javų šaknims maitinti. Pasėliai išauga ir subręsta drėkinami upės. Asirai drėkina ne taip, kaip Egipte, kur upė pati užlieja dirvas, o rankomis ir siurbliais. Visa Babilonija, kaip ir Egiptas, išraižyta kanalų. Didžiausias kanalas tinka laivams plaukioti. Jis jungia Eufratą šiaurės rytų kryptimi su kita upe – Tigru, prie kurio įsikūręs Nino (Ninevijos – A. A.) polis".

Straipsnio užduotis - atverti Čiurlionio estetiką, kurį sudaro įvairių meno suvokimo būdų, nuo metafizikos per ontologiją, sociologiją iki psichologijos - įvertinimą. Šie ir panašūs suvokimo būdai yra nulemti gamtos, žmogaus, mitinių figūrų prielaidos „įvaizdžių“, bet ne visa persunkiančių, judrių, kintančių ir apsupančių estetinių dimensijų atverties. The task of this essay consists of an exposition of the aesthetic works of Čiurlionis, which also involves a critique of various accounts of art and aesthetics in terms of metaphysics, ontology, sociology and psychology. All such accounts focus on "images” of nature, humans, mythical figures, but fail to articulate the all-pervasive, flowing, vibrant and encompassing aesthetic dimensions. The latter are not characteristics, qualities or expressions of anything; their presence is what makes artworks assume an “appearance” as belonging in a cosmic becoming, forever in playful emergence without human all to human directional time and homogeneous space. Čiurlionis has disclosed such aesthetic dimensions as access to a perceptible cosmos.

The field of kinetic art was born after the First World War, although we can find traces of it in the Futurist Manifesto of 1910. This art reached its peak in the 1960s; however, it is still relevant today. Newly uncovered dynamic forms of expression have been successfully integrated into pieces of contemporary art, and th eir unstoppable dynamics still amaze all new onlookers. In this art icle, the writer on cultural issues Agota Vaitkienė discusses what the initial idea was behind kinetic art, and how it changed over the 20th century. The discussion includes both a theoretical overview of the art, and the author's own reflections on observing and analysing artworks.

Straipsnyje aptariamos dvi šiandienos teoriniame diskurse koegzistuojančios antropoceno estetikos prieigos, darant prielaidą, kad jos grindžiamos skirtingomis estetikos sampratomis. Pirmojoje prieigoje antropoceno estetika analizuojama remiantis vizualumo teoretikų T. J. Demos ir Nicholas’o Mirzoeff pozicija, kurioje atkreipiamas dėmesys į prieštaringą vizualiųjų medijų reikšmę konstruojant antropoceno įvaizdinimą. Šioje perspektyvoje estetika įgauna redukcinį pobūdį, suprantant ją kaip anestetizuojantį faktorių. Antrojoje prieigoje grįžtama prie estetikos sąsajos su aesthesis matmeniu, traktuojant ją ne estetizuojančiu požiūriu, bet kaip pamatinio lygmens percepciją. Šios prieigos skirtumas nuo pirmosios straipsnyje aiškinamas remiantis Maurizio Ferrario racionaliosios estetikos projektu. Trečiojoje dalyje nagrinėjama antropoceno estetikos kaip aesthesis koreliacija su menu ir meno galimybė reprezentuoti antropoceną. The article presents two approaches towards the aesthetics of Anthropocene in contemporary philosophy, which are based on different concepts of aesthetics itself. The first one is analyzed referring to the position of visual theorists T. J. Demos and Nicholas Mirzoeff, who focus on the controversial functioning of the visual media, through which the representation of the Anthropocene is usually constructed. This approach assumes the reductional character of aesthetics, seeing it as a form of anesthesia. The second approach towards the aesthetics of the Anthropocene returns to the link between aesthetics and a dimension of aesthesis, where the former is treated not as an anaesthetic, but as a fundamental perception. The difference between these positions is explained applying Maurizio Ferraris’ theoretical framework of rational aesthetics. The third part of the article analyzes the correlation between the aesthetics of the Anthropocene as aesthesis and the art. In this part, the article focuses on the potentiality of the art to represent the Anthropocene. These aspects are explained employing Timothy Morton’s concept of hyperobject and the example of the Lithuanian artistic project “Sun and Sea (Marina)”.

Vilnius presents itself today as the easternmost and northernmost European city of the Baroque, and the Baroque heritage played an important role in 1994 when the historic centre of Vilnius was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Throughout the twentieth century, the Vilnius Baroque attracted the attention of artists and scholars. However, the approaches to research into this field differed both in terms of methodology and in relation to their political aims. The lively intellectual debate on Vilnius’ Baroque art and architecture that went on in the inter-war period was followed by a time of rather vague and unproductive research during the Soviet period, and it flourished again after the restoration of Lithuanian independence in 1990. The first part of this article gives an overview of the main debates on and interpretive models of Baroque architecture in Vilnius before the Soviet occupation. The second part explores the Soviet reinterpretation of Baroque art and architecture and the various techniques that were used to create new values of this heritage for the then new Socialist society of Lithuania.

The author discusses ecology of culture as an ecosystem of the state. So, what should be done in order to make culture the most important card of the state, an essential part of the distribution of goods and how should we come to realize that we should stop questioning the meaning of culture?

Straipsnyje kalbama apie (šiuolaikinio) meno sistemą ir institucijas kaip ideologines medijas. Remiamasi filosofo Louis Althusserio suformuluota represinių valstybės aparatų ir ideologinių valstybės aparatų koncepcija, pasak kurios, karinių, religinių, edukacijos, taip pat ir kultūros institucijų esmė - ideologinės propagandos skleidimas, užtikrinant ideologinę subjektyvaciją. Tai reiškia, kad dominuojančiųjų socialinių klasių ideologiją kiekvienas atskiras subjektas priima kaip savo paties mąstymo modelį. Ideologine interpeliacija remiasi tiek totalitarinės valstybės, tiek ir propaguojančios liberalųjį kapitalizmą. Būtent apie šią globalią ideologinę santvarką, tačiau žvelgiant pro specifinę (šiuolaikinio) meno sistemos prizmę, ir kalbama straipsnyje. (Šiuolaikinio) meno institucijos straipsnyje aptariamos kaip represinio neoliberalizmo ideologijos ruporai, savotiškos medijos, viena vertus, skleidžiančios neoliberalistinę vartojimo propagandą. Kita vertus, tokių institucijų tikslas, be ideologinės propagandos skleidimo, yra savilegitimacija ir funkcionavimo savitikslės mechanikos užtikrinimas. Abiem tikslams pasiekti tinka "meno" ir "estetikos", kaip savarankiškos, nepriklausomos nuo ideologijos terpės, mitologija. The article analyses (contemporary) art system and institutions as ideological media. The author uses the concepts of repressive state apparatus and ideological state apparatuses formulated by philosopher Louis Althusser, according to which the essence of military, religious, educational, as well as cultural institutions is the spread of ideological propaganda, ensuring ideological subjectivation. This means that each individual adopts the ideology of dominant social class as its own model of thinking. Both totalitarian states and those that promote liberal capitalism use ideological interpellation. It is precisely on this global ideological order that focuses the article, looking though the specific prism at the (contemporary) art system. (Contemporary) art institutions are interpreted as a ruphor of repressive neoliberal ideology and a kind of media, on the one hand, spreading neoliberal consumerist propaganda. On the other hand, the purpose of such institutions, in addition to the dissemination of ideological propaganda, is self-legtimation and the assurance of functioning of self-serving mechanics. "Art" and "aesthetics", as autonomous and ideologically independent fields, are suitable for both purposes.

Vytis or bunker, traditional or modern expression – these were the most popular questions of the last season actively discussed in public space and they almost erased the boundary between art and politics. And it is hardly a coincidence. Art and politics are no longer separated but instead are brought together. The relation between art and politics is drawn in Lithuania lately as well.

As the movement known as #metoo is getting pace it becomes obvious that it is controlled by nationalists with gender inclinations. Their main argument is of a moralist kind – positions of men in power should give way to other positions. The calls might look very well, but a new model of repressed sexuality is based on puritan values. Is this problem in fact so specialized asks the author.

Politinis liberalizmas reikalauja atskirti viešus ir privačius įsitikinimus, tarp kurių atsiduria ir religiniai įsitikinimai. Tačiau mistinis tikrovės suvokimas nėra aiškiai suformuluotų įsitikinimų sistema. Galima kalbėti apie liberalizmo ir mistinio tikrovės suvokimo konfliktą, kurį sąlygoja dvilypė liberalizmo politinės filosofijos prigimtis. Liberalizmas nėra vien tik politinį neutralumą propaguojanti doktrina, bet veikia kartu su tam tikra kultūros samprata, nukreipta prieš mistinį pasaulio tikroviškumo suvokimą The article is based on an idea that there are four different modes of understanding reality - practice, science, art and mysticism. Political liberalism demands separation of public and private beliefs. However, mystical understanding of reality is not a system of propositions and beliefs. This is why one can speak of a conflict between liberalism and mystical understanding of reality. Political liberalism imposes a certain understanding of reality on believers. Liberals propose to remove religious convictions from public life and not to treat them as a basis of politics. They forget that mystics have the biggest trouble namely with convictions. To turn the reality of God into words for them is always the hardest task. Mystics find God before words, concepts and discourses. Liberals reduce religion to convictions and demand from mystics to comprehend that, which in their opinion is not comprehensible. There is a tension between liberalism and people who have mystical experiences. Liberals narrow down religious experience to convictions. However, mystical experience is a much broader subject. Behind it stands an understanding of world that has its own standards of realit

This paper describes a prison-based street art intervention that took place at a Lithuanian institution for young offenders. During the first stage of the project, existing historical graffiti and murals on the prison walls were uncovered and documented. The second stage of the project involved working with the young offenders to co-produce a series of collaborative large-scale works within the prison walls, some of which incorporated elements of these earlier murals as a form of living heritage. The final stage of the project reproduced a selection of this work outside on the walls of the local city. Future work will involve a more formal evaluation of the impact of the intervention on the young offenders, the prison staff, and the local community.

Įvertinant naujas klausymo ir meno kūrinio funkcionavimo strategijas pateikiamas muzikos, naudojančios kūrybai aplinkos garsus, sisteminimas, išskiriami pagrindiniai žanrai (garso meditacijos, garso pasivaikščiojimai, garso skulptūros ir instaliacijos, garso kompozicijos), lyginami musique concrète ir aplinkos garso meno siekiniai ir technikos. The article discusses the acoustic ecology movement that started in the 1960s as well as the historical and problematic contexts. The fundamental statements, ideas, and development of Raymond Murray Schafer, the movement’s pioneer, from today’s perspective are analysed, the positions of contemporary acoustic ecology and its interdisciplinary nature, as well as the intersection between the ecology and soundscape art presented. Assessing the new strategies of listening and the functioning of a work of art, the systemising of music that employs the acoustic environment is presented; the main genres (sound meditations, sound walking, sound sculptures and installations, soundscape compositions) are given, the goals and techniques of musique concrète and soundscape composition are compared. There is also a short discussion of the perspectives and situation of acoustic ecology in Lithuania.

Greta seniausios šumerų vos jaunesnė egiptietiškoji civilizacija yra vienas svarbiausių pirmapradžių motininių Senojo pasaulio civilizacijos židinių. Jame išryškėjusios valstybingumo, socialinės organizacijos formos, sukurtas kultūros vertybių ir simbolių fondas, mokslo laimėjimai turi milžinišką įtaką vėlesnei pasaulinės civilizacijos istorijai. Daugelis lengva ranka senovės graikams ir romėnams priskiriamų kultūros laimėjimų iš tikrųjų formavosi dviejuose pagrindiniuose pietvakarinės Senojo pasaulio, t. y. Afro-Eurazijinės, civilizacinės erdvės židiniuose Šumere ir Egipte. Čia užgimusios civilizuoto gyvenimo formos, perėjusios per antikinės kultūros filtrus, tapo vėliau išsiskleidusių bizantinės, Vakarų Europos, islamiškos civilizacijų valstybingumo, religijos, socialinės visuomenės organizacijos, gyvenimo būdo, kultūros, mokslo, architektūros, meno formų ir daugybės kitų žmogaus būties aspektų pagrindu. Egiptietiškoji civilizacija savo gyvavimo tūkstantmečiais nuėjo ilgą ir duobėtą istorinės raidos kelią, kuriame buvo svaigių pakilimų, stagnacijos, nuosmukių ir gaivališkų kultūros pakilimo tarpsnių. Šios civilizacijos pavadinimas daugumoje Europos kalbų kilo iš senosios šalies sostinės Memfio antrojo graikiško pavadinimo "Aigyptos" (gr. Αἴγυπτος), o islamiški kraštai perėmė kitą asirietišką Egipto pavadinimą "Musur", iš kurio kilo dabartinis Egipto (Misr) pavadinimas musulmoniškose valstybėse. Sėkmingai egiptietiškos civilizacijos raidai neabejotiną poveikį turėjo patogi, izoliuota nuo išorinio pasaulio geografinė padėtis.

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London stores the copy of the list of the so called “degenerate art”. It consists of 101 artworks confiscated by the Third Reich from the German State Museum in 1937–1938. The list with 15 996 positions was prepared by the Reich Ministry of Education and Propaganda (Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda) in 1941–1942. In 1996 the list was handed over to the Museum by Elfriede Fischer, the widow of collector Harry Fischer. The document is stored in the Museum’s National Library of Art as part of the collection of H. Fischer. In 2014 the Victorian and Albert Museum digitised the list and published it online. The two volumes of the press release provide invaluable information about confiscated paintings, graphic art, sculptures and their fate. According to the list, during the “degenerate art” campaign, nine artworks of expressionist artist Pranas Domšaitis (1880–1965) were removed from German museums. Since all of them are destroyed or their location is unknown, and image of only one painting is known, the article attempts to identify the motifs of requisite artworks from the short description in the list. Research is made using comparative analysis on the basis of the analogous or similar-period, subject, and title artworks which are in collections of the Lithuanian Art Museum. Also the development of “degenerate art” campaign and Domšaitis’ life in the Third Reich is discussed in general terms.
