This randomized controlled trial assessed the impact of crestal level position of implants installed in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients rehabilitated with overdentures. Twenty-two mandibular edentulous T2DM patients were submitted to implant placement for retention of an overdenture. By means of a split-mouth design, two implants were installed: one at supracrestal level (SL) and one at crestal level (CL). Clinical, immunoenzymatic and tomographic analyses were performed at prosthesis placement (baseline) and after 6, 12 and 24 months following implant loading. Increased peri-implant probing depths were detected in CL implants when compared with SL implants at all time-points (baseline P=0.047; 6 months P=0.014; 12 months P=0.027; 24 months P=0.036). Indeed, augmented clinical attachment levels were also detected in CL implants when compared with SL implants at all time-points (baseline P=003; 6 months P=0.045; 12 months P=0.029; 24 months P=0.026). CL implants demonstrated increased amounts of interleukin-6 (IL-6) at 6 months (P=0.043) and higher IL-17 (P=0.021), IL-21 (P=0.034) and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) concentrations (P=0.030) at 24 months in comparison with SL implants. CL group revealed enhanced bone loss from baseline to 6 (P=0.032), 12 (P=0.043) and 24 months (P=0.028) when compared with SL. In conclusion, this study showed that implants placed supracrestally in T2DM patients rehabilitated with overdentures demonstrated lower bone loss and better clinical parameters with beneficial modulation of peri-implant immunoinflammatory biomarkers when compared with implants positioned at crestal level.

This study evaluated the influence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on the gene expression of bone-related factors in alveolar bone tissue from sites designated to receive dental implants. Bone biopsies were harvested from sites of planned implants for 19 systemically healthy patients and 35 patients with T2DM (17 with better-controlled T2DM (glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels ≤8%) and 18 with poorly controlled T2DM (HbA1c levels >8%)). Background The poor glycemic status seems to be an important factor affecting implant complication rates, including peri-implant bone loss. Purpose This trial evaluated the influence of glycemic control of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients on implant stabilization and on the levels of bone markers in peri-implant fluid during the healing. Materials and Methods Systemically healthy patients (SH,n = 19), better-controlled T2DM (BCDM,n = 16), and poorly controlled T2DM (PCDM,n = 16) indicated for implant therapy were recruited. The implant stability quotient (ISQ) was determined at implant placement, 3, 6, and 12 months. Levels of transforming growth factor- β (TGF-β), fibroblast growth factor (FGF), osteopontin (OPN), osteocalcin (OC), and osteoprotegerin (OPG) in the peri-implant fluid were quantified at 15 days, and 3, 6, and 12 months, using the Luminex assay. Results OPG and OPN levels were higher in SH at 12 months than at15 days (p .05). No difference in ISQ was observed among groups over time (p > .05). Conclusion Poor glycemic control negatively modulated the bone factors during healing, although T2DM, regardless of glycemic status, had no effect on implant stabilization.

The conventional method of ridge expansion uses a mucoperiosteal flap elevation to allow bone corticotomy, which is followed by bone expansion performed with chisels and bone expanders. To facilitate corticotomy and avoid flap elevation, bone expansion can be performed in 2 stages. This case report presents a modified 2-stage bone expansion technique to achieve better implant stabilization and wound closure. This modified approach may be an efficient procedure for minimizing complications.

Este estudo teve como objetivo explorar o papel da autenticidade de marca, investigando-a como antecedente da relação já estabelecida pela literatura entre a congruência de imagem e a autoconexão de marcas e consumidores. Para isso, foi realizada uma survey com 480 consumidores brasileiros e americanos, economicamente ativos, de marcas de produtos de vestuário e acessórios pessoais que caracterizam aqui a prática de consumo público, e também de marcas de produtos de higiene pessoal, caracterizadas aqui como de consumo privado, para mensurar a percepção de autenticidade das marcas escolhidas, o grau de congruência de imagem e o nível de conexão entre estes consumidores e suas marcas. Sendo possível explorar a influência da autenticidade de marca como um elemento antecessor e contribuinte positivo da relação entre congruência de imagem e autoconexão de marca. De modo que possa prover indícios a serem investigados por futuras pesquisas, de que possíveis interferências de contexto de consumo podem ocorrer sobre o peso e o papel que a autenticidade de marca percebida. O que pode gerar interferências no processo de identificação e conexão entre marcas e consumidores. Abstract: The brand of authenticity has been a topic of great academic curiosity and great value for marketing managers who want to build strong and successful brands. This study aimed to explore the role of brand authenticity, investigating it as a previous of the relation already established in the literature between image congruence and brands Self connection. For this, a survey research with 480 Brazilian and American consumers was conducted economically active, brands of clothing products and personal accessories here feature the public consumption practice, and also brands of toiletries, characterized here as private consumption, to measure the perception of authenticity of the chosen brands and how much the image consistency and the level of connection between these consumers and their brands. And to explore the influence of brand authenticity as a predecessor element and positive contributor to the relationship between image congruence and brand Self Connection. So that it can provide clues to be investigated by future researchers, that possible context consumer interferences may occur on the weight and the role that the brand authenticity perceived. What can cause interference in the identification and connection process between brands and consumers.

The primary stability of dental implants is fundamental for osseointegration. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the correlation between insertion torque (IT) and resonance frequency analysis (RFA) of implants placed in mandibles and maxillas of different bone densities. Eighty dental implants were placed in maxillas and mandibles, and IT and the implant stability quotient (ISQ) were measured at the time of implant insertion. Bone density was assessed subjectively by the Lekholm and Zarb index. The type I and II densities were grouped together (group A)as were the type III and IV densities (group B). The IT in group A was higher (Student t test, P = .0013) than in group B (46.27 ± 18.51 Ncm, 33.62 ± 14.74 Ncm, respectively). The implants placed in group A showed higher ISQ (Student t test, P = .0004) than those placed in group B (70.09 ± 7.50, 63.66 ± 8.00, respectively). A significant correlation between IT and the ISQ value was observed for group A (Pearson correlation test; r = 0.35; P = .0213) and for group B (r = 0.37; P = .0224). Within the limitations of this study, it was possible to conclude that there is a correlation between IT and RFA of implants placed in mandibles and maxillas of different bone densities.

Plutella xylostella is a recurring pest on cruciferous crops around the world. In Brazil, it typically requires large number of insecticide sprays, which may lead to fast evolution of resistance. The aim of this study was to assess the susceptibility of Brazilian diamondback moth populations to the insecticides abamectin, deltamethrin, and spinosad. Leaf dip bioassays were used to determine mortality data obtained after 48 h of exposure to insecticides and subjected to Probit analysis. The population from Bonito, state of Pernambuco, Brazil, had the highest toxicity ratio (20.2 - fold) to abamectin compared to the reference population. The LC50 values for deltamethrin ranged from 85.2 to 360.1 mg L-1, demonstrating a high survival of populations in relation to this insecticide field dose rate (7.5 mg L-1). The toxicity ratios of the estimated LC50s, however, were very low (varying from 2.2 - to 4.2 - fold). Most populations exhibited toxicity ratios for spinosad, ranging from 2.3 - to 5.1 - fold, while both the LC50 and LC95 values reflected a high susceptibility to the spinosad field dosage (120 mg L-1). Only the Bonito - PE population resisted to abamectin, while all P. xylostella populations were resistant to deltamethrin, but particularly susceptible to spinosad because of the absence of selection pressure with it in these areas. Plutella xylostella é uma praga recorrente em brássicas de todo o mundo. No Brasil, normalmente exige grande número de pulverizações de inseticidas, que pode levar à rápida evolução da resistência. Avaliou-se a suscetibilidade de populações brasileiras da traça das crucíferas aos inseticidas abamectina, deltametrina e espinosade. Bioensaios de imersão de folhas foram utilizados para determinar a mortalidade, sendo os dados obtidos após 48 h de exposição aos inseticidas e submetidos à análise de Probit. A população de Bonito-PE apresentou a maior razão de toxicidade (20,2 vezes) para abamectina em relação à população de referência. Os valores de CL50s para deltametrina variaram entre 85,2 - 360,1 mg L-1, demonstrando alta sobrevivência das populações a este inseticida com relação à dose de campo (7,5 mg L-1). Entretanto, as razões de toxicidade das CL50 estimadas foram muito baixas (variando de 2,2 a 4,2 vezes). A maioria das populações apresentou razões de toxicidade para espinosade, variando de 2,3 para 5,1 vezes, embora os valores de CL demonstram alta suscetibilidade delas à dose de campo para espinosade (120 mg L-1). Apenas a população de Bonito PE apresentou resistência a abamectina, enquanto todas as populações de P. xylostella estão resistentes a deltametrina, mas suscetíveis ao espinosade particularmente devido à ausência de pressão de seleção com este nestas áreas.

The susceptibility of diamondback moth populations to the insecticides abamectin, deltamethrin, and spinosad, from three Brazilian regions was compared through collard leaf dipping bioassays in laboratory for the different treatments. Mortality data were assessed 48 hours after exposition to every insecticide and submitted to Probit analysis. All the populations showed significant resistance to at least one of the insecticides. The Bonito-PE population showed the highest resistance ratio (20.2 times) to abamectin when compared with the susceptible population and to other insecticides. The deltamethrin LC50s were very high for all the populations tested, ranging from 85.2 to 360.1 mg/L. All the populations from Pernambuco State were considered resistant to deltamethrin, with resistance ratios varying from 2.2 to 4.2 times. Five populations showed significant resistance to spinosad with ratios varying from 2.3 to 5.1. These results are discussed based on the spectrum of insecticides used in the regions. In conclusion, the need of resistance toinsecticides management programs for P. xylostella in conjunction with an integrated pest management is urgent in these regions. A suscetibilidade de populações de traça-das-crucíferas aos inseticidas abamectina, deltametrina e espinosade, provenientes de três regiões brasileiras, foram comparadas através de bioensaios com imersão de folhas de couve. A mortalidade foi avaliada após 48 horas de exposição aos inseticidas e os dados foram submetidos à análise de Probit. Os resultados demonstraram que sete populações de traça-das-crucíferas apresentaram significativa resistência a um ou mais inseticidas. A população de Bonito-PE apresentou a maior razão de toxicidade (20,2 vezes) ao abamectina quando comparados com a população suscetível. As CL50s para deltametrina foram altas para as populações de traça-das-crucíferas, variando de 85,2 a 360,1 mg/L do inseticida. Todas as populações do Estado de Pernambuco foram consideradas resistentes ao deltametrina, apresentando razões de toxicidade variando entre 2,2 e 4,2 vezes. Cinco populações apresentaram moderada resistência ao espinosade com níveis de resistência variando de 2,3 a 5,1. Assim, a necessidade de desenvolvimento de programas de manejo de resistência de P. xylostella a inseticidas associados ao manejo integrado de pragas torna-se evidente nestas regiões produtoras de brássicas.
