Several authors have described how the formalization of recent decades has steered doctoral education towards structured curricula, more managerial control and new models for supervision. Largely absent from these accounts, however, is if and how doctoral education has been affected by the concurrent changes in research governance, in particular by the 'projectification' of research. For this study, we were interested in the convergence of educational formalization with research projectification around doctoral education in the context of highly competitive, externally funded research in medicine and health sciences in Sweden. Using Cultural-historical activity theory and constructing activity systems for education and research, respectively, we were able to identify several contradictions and tensions, both within and between systems, that were consequences of adaptations to the abovementioned formalization and research policy changes. The contradictions were manifested in the tying of doctoral students, and their education, to their supervisors' research projects, grants and future prospects, and in students being deprived of opportunities for learning and developing independence. Supervisors were torn between supervision and project management while doctoral students had to balance being students and project members. Background: Adolescence and young adulthood are high risk periods for kidney transplant recipients. The reasons for this are complex; but are predominantly thought to be due to poor adherence to immunosuppressive medications. Patient education can help support young recipients to reduce their risk of behaviour-related transplant loss. The aim of this review was to understand what is known about education interventions targeted at adolescent and young adult kidney transplant recipients. Methods: Systematic scoping review methodology was utilised. Six online databases were searched for suitable articles. Articles were selected for full text review following title and abstract screening. Articles deemed eligible to be included in the review had data extracted, which were qualitatively analysed using thematic analysis. Findings were validated through a consultation exercise with both young recipients and healthcare professionals. Results: 29 studies were eligible for inclusion in the review. There was a high level of heterogeneity in the content, mode, design, and measurement of efficacy of interventions in the selected studies. Traditional face-to-face education and transition clinics were the most common educational interventions. Using technology to enhance patient education was also a major theme identified. Few studies reported using educational theory or involving patients in intervention design. Discussion: Four key research gaps were identified. 1.) Lack of educational theory in intervention design 2.) Lack of patient/ stakeholder involvement 3.) Identifying best way to measure efficacy 4.) identifying novel future research questions within already well established paediatric and educational frameworks. Evidence-based assessment (EBA) requires that investigators employ scientific theories and research findings to guide decisions about what domains to measure, how and when to measure them, and how to make decisions and interpret results. To implement EBA, investigators need high-quality assessment tools along with evidence-based processes. We advance EBA in three sections in this article. First, we describe an empirically grounded framework, the Operations Triad Model (OTM), to inform EBA decision-making in the articulation of relevant educational theory. Originally designed for interpreting mental health assessments, we describe features of the OTM that facilitate its fusion with educational theory, namely its falsifiability. In turn, we cite evidence to support the OTM's ability to inform hypothesis generation and testing, study design, instrument selection, and measurement validation. Second, we describe quality indicators for interpreting psychometric data about measurement tools, which informs both the development and selection of measures and the process of measurement validation. Third, we apply the OTM and EBA to research in special education in two contexts: (a) empirical research for causal explanation and (b) implementation science research. This study aimed to analyze the main determinants of individual income inequality in Brazil. For this, an earnings equation was estimated. We used a twostage approach in order to control both for sample selection bias and endogeneity problems. After that, we used decompositions based on the Shapley value, a solution concept for cooperative games. The review discusses the book "Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft. Eine Theorie der sozioökonomischen Bildung" (Economy and Society: A Theory of Socioeconomic Education) by Reinhold Hedtke. The book provides a theoretical foundation and framework for the "Socioeconomic Curriculum" that was introduced in 2018. It is based on the distinction between subject-specific, domain-specific, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary levels and defines guiding and core competencies. Hedtke also discusses educational policy conditions and develops an educational-theoretical framework as well as a subject didactic concept for socioeconomic education. Clinicians with teaching and training roles should be adequately trained and assessed. However, some debate exists as to what the nature of this training should be. Historically, a postgraduate certificate in education was a pre-requisite to becoming a GP trainer but this is changing with growing concern that such a pre-requisite might act as a deterrent to potential GP trainers. This research examines the impact of a scheme designed to provide an alternative, more practical and focused, pathway to becoming a GP trainer. We interviewed 26 course participants and stakeholders of the London GP Training Course (LGPTC), observed teaching sessions, and analysed course materials. We asked what elements of the course were and weren't effective, for whom, and under what circumstances. Here, we present a summary of our main findings – that GP trainers want to know practically, not theoretically, how to be a trainer; formative assessment boosts trainees' confidence in their own skills and abilities; short, practical GP training courses can help enhance the numbers of GP trainers; important questions remain about the role and value of educational theory in education faculty development. This study explores how Hong Kong theological students understand the term "integration" and how they learn it. It adopts the constructivist approach of grounded theory as its research method to interview nineteen students. Five types of "integration" are identified, each referring to a different aspect of learning in field education. The analysis illustrates the multidimensional nature of the learning experience of the students. For the education industry, Chat GPT is predicted to change the way of teaching and learning. Adapting to Chat GPT will be a challenge for teaching, but it can also be an opportunity for universities to improve the education and teaching of political theory subjects. The article analyzes and clarifies the basic content of transforming political theory education methods under the impact of ChatGPT in Vietnam today. The results show that political theory education plays an important role in ideological orientation and personality formation for future generations in the context of innovation and development. With the development of technology, ChatGPT can be considered as an educational virtual assistant by helping learners quickly look up lessons and learning materials related to the topic of learning political theory subjects. In addition, the article has also pointed out and analyzed issues that need specific concern about changing teaching methods of political theory subjects before the impact of ChatGPT, related to: on the part of lecturers; change the way it is tested and evaluated; towards students. The limitation of this study is that it has not shown and analyzed solutions to improve the transformation of educational methods of political theory subjects before the impact of ChatGPT in Vietnam today. This paper focuses on two elements of the Passover Seder ritual and their connection to Piagetian education theory. After outlining Piaget's theory of genetic epistemology and its implications for education theory, it focuses on Sigel's distancing theory, which touts question asking as a tool for presenting information to students. This paper argues that the Jewish ritual of the Passover Seder was formulated with such pedagogical methods in mind, especially as it concerns the role of questioning. This paper also discusses storytelling's importance as an effective tool in pedagogical instruction, and how the Passover Seder also takes advantage of that modality to make the ritual more impactful for educational purposes. In this text, I analyze the place of students' experiences in their pragmatic readings of texts, influencing the teaching-learning dynamics of anthropology and the impacts on the understanding of their alterities. The arguments to support this proposition are based on recent discussions on ethnography, as a way of developing theories and concepts, producing knowledge, and works on ethnography in education. The reflections presented here were built from classes taught in the city of Codó, located in the east of Maranhão-Brazil, and from online classes during the covid19 pandemic, for a class with students from the same city. As demonstrated through the disregard for Black humanity and respondent Black social movements throughout Latin America, anti-Black systemic racism is a transnational phenomenon birthed from global White supremacy. Across the Americas, the hemispheric parallels undergirding collective resistance to anti-Black racism and state-sanctioned violence lend themselves to multifaceted interdisciplinary scholarly examinations. Using transnational anti-Black racism in Latin America as a point of departure, we advance a theorization of critical race theory in education capable of interrogating racist structures of coloniality, modernity, and White supremacy that operate globally to suppress Black humanity and humanness in general. To that extent, we draw from and reposition critical race theory (CRT) from its sociohistoric heritage in the United States and instead conceptualize transnational anti-Black racism vis-à-vis a Black Diaspora reading of CRT. Finally, we return to education as a key site of contestation for transnational anti-Black racism and draw implications for the meaning of this global theorization of CRT in urban education, praxis, and educational research. The main question is whether Individual Psychology formulates an explicit theory of education (Bildung) and whether implicit conceptions of education manifest themselves in its theory and practice. reference to Dietrich Benner, the first step is a systematic clarification of the concepts of education (Erziehung and Bildung) and of their relationship to Individual Psychology. After that, essential aspects of modern educational thinking – from the Enlightenment to the 20th century – are exemplarily confronted with Individual Psychology, and some areas of individual psychological practice are questioned on their educational content. Finally, the example of Manès Sperber is given to illustrate that Individual Psychology can inspire educational thinking anchored in culture and psychology. The conclusion is that the often-postulated educational affinity of Individual Psychology is confirmed and that essential individual psychological categories can be allocated to formal education. In the editorial titled "Education from an individual psychological perspective," the question is raised whether individual psychology can contribute to the concept of education. It is noted that the term "education" cannot be found in the subject indexes of individual psychology and that Adler himself did not refer to pedagogical authorities. Experts from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland were invited to provide statements on the pedagogical relevance of individual psychology. The first contribution in this issue addresses the absence of an explicit individual psychological concept of education and discusses various aspects of education from an individual psychological perspective. It also refers to the contribution of a US-American individual psychologist who has dealt with issues of climate change and ecological anxieties. The text deals with various aspects of individual psychology and its significance for education. Sven Kluge emphasizes the relevance of individual psychological analyses for understanding social power and domination relations. Beate Letschert-Grabbe presents three examples of individual psychology-oriented work in primary schools. Educational psychologists have studied different conceptions of school learning that have focused mainly on the acquisition of knowledge, emotional skills, cognitive skills and social skills, but have neglected person al reflective learning, which is necessary for children and adolescents to successfully manage their daily lives in their role as children, siblings or students, as well as assume those roles in a critical way with responsibility of their actions. To analyze this issue, a review of the literature is made, and based on it the author points out a new critical conception of learning, which allows them to guide children and adolescents as thoughtful and responsible people who can make the right decisions. at each stage of their development, and in the different roles they must assume in their daily lives. Elementarization (Elementarisierung) as a didactic concept and measure for the didactic reduction of complex facts has a long tradition in general didactics as well as in didactics in teaching children with special needs. In this article, the concept is critically examined, substantiated by current educational theoretical considerations, and subsequently extended by a further direction. Current educational theories focus less on questions of input or output, but rather on educational processes, which can positively influence didactic considerations. The update of the concept of elementarization is made in terms of a relational understanding of disability analogous to the ICF(-CY) in order to take more account of individual everyday life and contextual factors when planning and designing educational situations in the process of elementarization. Aim. The aim of the article is to determine the status and purpose of philosophy of education, and to identify the peculiarities of its relationship with educational practice and pedagogical science. Concept. Philosophy of education and pedagogy explore different aspects of the same subject field - education. Realising different research functions, they do not act as competitors, but, on the contrary, have the potential for mutual complementarity and reciprocal strengthening of their cognitive capabilities. Results. Philosophy of education as a branch of applied philosophy is not an instrumental tool and cannot directly influence educational practice. It is designed to provide comprehension and understanding of the most important problems of the theory and practice of education. The role of mediator is played by another science of education - pedagogy. Conclusion. The most productive form of relationship between philosophy of education and pedagogical science is their interaction, which contributes to the mutual enrichment, building up and the fullest realisation of their special research capabilities. Pedagogy has a choice of philosophical and educational concepts to develop educational theories which are verified by experiment and directly implemented in practice. Philosophy of education realises its theoretical functions at all stages of educational activity. Cognitive value. The article presents a new perspective on the problem of the relationship between educational philosophy and educational practice. Research suggests that traditional models for principal preparation often do not adequately prepare principals for the challenges of their daily work. This study examines how one private university in the south utilized a Grow Your Own (GYO) concept to provide principal candidates with more authentic field-based cohort learning that revolved around problem solving and meeting the needs of students in their schools in real time. The GYO collaborative model provides an opportunity for P-12 and post-secondary education to merge theory and practice in an integration of expertise and resources that utilizes a course by course exploration of the domain of educational leadership -- allowing for real world training with a scholarly backdrop that offers the candidate a rich and authentic experience. Globally, the study of entrepreneurship is increasingly becoming a prominent component of hospitality and tourism education. However, uncertainties arising from an unpredictable business environment, inadequate governmental support as well as the ramifications of the recent Covid-19 pandemic have heightened the risks of starting business ventures. Yet the role of risk-taking propensity in driving entrepreneurial attitudes and career decisions in the context of developing economies has received limited attention. Using a survey of 547 hospitality and tourism students from five public universities, the structural equation modeling technique of partial least squares was applied in examining students' response to entrepreneurship. While entrepreneurial attitudes are driven by risk-taking inclination, the findings suggest that entrepreneurial career decisions are more complicated. The study outcome further underscores the critical roles of personal attitude, normative influence, and behavioral control in shaping entrepreneurial mind-sets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this conceptual paper, we advance Transformative Leadership Conversation as a form of dialogue that relies on shared meaning-making to activate the motivational energy within people to transform social structures that impede aspirational realities. Transformative Leadership Conversation leverages the most commonly available resource for leaders—conversation—to approach transformation as a process that begins within individuals and moves outward to the relational context where actions and interactions define social structures. There are two interdependent parts to the paper: a conceptual definition and a theory of action. The conceptual definition describes TLC and situates its components in the social and psychological processes that drive transformation. Kress used the opportunity of responding to Halliday's paper (see the preceding paper in this issue) to advance ideas which have subsequently been foundational to work in multimodality within the general theoretical of social semiotics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper is based on a series of lectures Halliday presented in the Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong in 2005. As Amy Tsui indicates in her companion paper in this issue, it was to have been the first chapter in a book that would also include chapters by other scholars discussing the educational use of some of Halliday's theoretical and practical proposals, but for various reasons the book did not eventuate. (See also the first sentence of the paper.) One distinctive feature of the paper is its reach over a very large range of concepts in Halliday's theory. Another is its accessibility for educators looking to find a general introduction to aspects of systemic functional linguistic theory relevant to education. This research seeks to understand the outcome of decades of education reform initiatives in the West Indies. Utilising the Qualitative Document Analysis (QDA) method, official public documents were collected through web and catalogue searches. Dominant themes were identified through manual and electronic coding using MaxQDA software. These emergent themes were examined through the lens of the edutocracy and elite theories to provide more in-depth analysis of this research problem. The document analysis constructed a narrative of how colonial ideology embedded within the inherited West Indian educational system runs counter to the progressive and more humanist visions and missions envisaged for present-day Caribbean education, culminating in deleterious conflicts between educational theory and practice. This work therefore concludes that there has been little substantive Caribbean education reform owing to the significant gaps between early twenty-first century, and even earlier drafted education visions, and current education practice. Educate the head only, you are likely to end up with characters who will preoccupy their minds with the annihilation of the entire human race. Educate the heart only and you will end up with individuals who cannot take decisions dispassionately or without sentiments and who may be lacking in critical thinking abilities. Educate the hands only and there is no telling what it could be up to. We would be creating robots, who as is the current fear with robots, may decide to exterminate the human race because they consider humans unnecessary for their existence. Education has got to be holistic. All three dimensions of the individual, the head, the heart and the hands must be functionally educated. That is why the ancient Philosopher Aristotle noted that "Educating the mind without Educating the heart is no education at all." This paper makes a case for the education of the head, the heart and the hands, proposing an adoption of Social and emotional learning theory in the Nigerian educational system, drawing from the position of neuroscience and applying the tool of psychology. The journal "Educational Philosophy & Theory" has retracted an article titled "International education in the Asian Century: Decline of Anglophone dominance?" due to concerns of unreferenced text overlap in two sections. Medical errors and near-miss events continue to impact hundreds of thousands of people annually. Given this fact, it is imperative that graduate students entering a career in patient safety are confident and competent in conducting root cause analyses so that they can fix broken systems and improve patient outcomes. Using Bruner's theory of constructivism as a framework, a virtual simulation was developed to provide online graduate nursing students an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge of root cause analyses in a virtual real-world online simulation. The book "Educational Science in Terms, Theories, and Discourses" by Matthias Huber and Marion Döll is a handbook that deals with selected keywords and concepts related to educational theory and related topics. Background: Families of children and adolescents with cancer strive to maintain routines and normalcy during the child's treatment trajectory that requires frequent hospital visits. Intravenous chemotherapy at home can reduce time spent on the frequent hospital visits and mitigate disruption in daily life. Studies on home chemotherapy for children and adolescents with cancer are limited, as is knowledge of family and health care professionals' needs, and knowledge required to inform adaptation or replication of interventions in other settings. The aim of this study was to develop and describe an evidence-based home chemotherapy intervention that is feasible and safe for children and adolescents and suitable for future feasibility testing. Methods: The Medical Research Council's guidance for developing complex interventions in health care and the framework of action developed by O'Cathain et al. was used as theoretical frameworks to structure the development process. A literature search, an ethnographic study, and interviews with clinical nurse specialists from adult cancer departments formed the evidence base. Educational learning theory to support and understand the intervention was identified. Stakeholder perspectives were explored in workshops with health care professionals and parent-adolescent interviews. Reporting was qualified using the GUIDED checklist. Results: A stepwise educational program to teach parents how to administer low-dose chemotherapy (Ara-C) to their child at home and a simple and safe administration procedure were developed. Key uncertainties were identified, including barriers and facilitators impacting future testing, evaluation, and implementation. Causal assumptions and reasoning for how the intervention leads to short-term outcomes and long-term impact were clarified in a logic model. Conclusions: The iterative and flexible framework allowed for integration of existing evidence and new data and was successfully applied to the development process. The detailed report on the development process of the home chemotherapy intervention can enhance adaptation or replication of the intervention to other settings and thereby mitigate family disruption and stress of frequent hospital visits for these treatments. The study has informed the next phase of the research project that aims to test the home chemotherapy intervention in a prospective single-arm feasibility study. Bunno's Fabulous Soap‐Making Challenge is intended to be both a game that is played for fun and a game from which subject content can be learned. The game is a resource‐managing game in which players plan, organize, and execute the production of soap. This article critically discusses the game concept. It also describes the educational theory, the game design as well as the educational content and the projected learning outcomes of the game. The results of an initial evaluation of the game are presented. A mixed‐methods approach finds that players enjoyed playing the game. The players make several recommendations, including the addition of specific game mechanics that offer players a greater level of in‐game control and increasing the challenge and complexity of the game. The paper presents possibilities of comprehensive use of support tools for pupils at risk of school failure in the Czech primary schools practice in order to support the implementation of inclusive education. The research data obtained during the project implemented in the Pilsen region in period of 2016–2019 brought the results of assessment of new support tools that are not yet systemically introduced in the Czech educational system and commonly available for all schools, although these instruments seem to be very effective or even necessary for quality inclusive education. The most important new tools include the position of inclusion coordinator in schools, strengthening the counselling services available directly in schools, as well as new strategies for promotion of cooperation between the schools, families, and social services – including some specific techniques, such as parenting workshops on child support in education, case conferences with child's participation or seminars for parents and teachers on collaboration with social services. However, the exploitation of the results of this research and assessment will depend largely on political decisions at both local and governmental levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
