This study explored the effects of Hugan Buzure (HBR) on cell apoptosis and autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the molecular mechanisms of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. HepG2 and Huh7 cell viability was detected by the tetramethylazolium salt colorimetric (MTT) method. Cell proliferation was measured using the colony formation method. Hoechst 33258 staining and flow cytometry were employed to detect apoptosis. In addition, immunofluorescence was carried out to evaluate the expression of LC3. Western blot was performed to detect the expression of Bcl-2, Bax, Caspase-3, LC3, Beclin1, p62 (SQSTM1), and PI3K/Akt/mTOR signal pathway-related proteins in HCC cells. This work verified that HBR reduced HepG2 and Huh7 cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner. Treatment with HBR caused an obvious improvement of the apoptosis rate, accompanied by the increase in Bax/Bcl2, Caspase3, LC3II, and Beclin1 levels, respectively. Furthermore, HBR downregulated the expression of p62, p-PI3K, p-Akt, and p-mTOR proteins. HBR combined with HCQ enhanced HBR-induced apoptosis. In conclusion, HBR induced autophagy and apoptosis through PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway, leading to HCC cell death. This research preliminarily suggested the potential role of HBR in the treatment of HCC.

High-Voltage power Integrated Circuits (HVICs) are widely used to realize high-efficiency power conversions (e.g., AC/DC conversion), gate drivers for power devices and LED lighting, and so on. The Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) process is proposed to fabricate devices with bipolar, CMOS, and DMOS modes, and thereby realize the single-chip integration of HVICs. The basic integrated technologies of HVICs include High-Voltage (HV) integrated device technology, HV interconnection technology, and isolation technology. The HV integrated device is the core of HVICs. The basic requirements of the HV integrated device are high breakdown voltage, low specific on-resistance, and process compatibility with low-voltage circuits. The REduced SURFace field (RESURF) technology and junction termination technology are developed to optimize the surface field of integration power devices and breakdown voltage. Furthermore, the ENhanced DIelectric layer Field (ENDIF) and REduced BULk Field (REBULF) technologies are proposed to optimize bulk fields. The double/triple RESURF technologies are further developed, and the superjunction concept is introduced to integrated power devices and to reduce the specific on-resistance. This work presents a comprehensive review of these technologies, including the innovation technologies of the authors' group, such as ENDIF and REBULF, substrate termination technology prospective integrated technologies and HVICs in wide band gap semiconductor materials are also discussed.

With the development of modern economy, exhibition industry has become an important platform for the construction of modern market system and open economic system. At present, there are many indicators to measure the competitiveness of urban exhibition industry in China. The annual index of competitiveness of Chinese city exhibition industry initiated by China convention and exhibition economic association has become the most authoritative report of competitiveness index of city exhibition industry. The exhibition industry is also one of the important evaluation criteria. This paper mainly uses the above two methods to calculate the exhibition competitiveness index of Chinese cities, and introduces the correlation coefficient to compare the stability of the ranking of the exhibition competitiveness index by the two methods. The study found that the correlation coefficient between the cities at the top and bottom of the ranking was large, that is, the ranking was relatively stable and barely changed. However, the ranking correlation coefficient of cities in the middle is smaller and the change is significant. However, the correlation coefficients of the cities ranked 21-40 are less than those of the top 20 cities, which also indicates that the abrupt change in the ranking of individual cities will affect the overall stability. Because of this, it shows that the evaluation indexes under different weights have a certain influence on the calculation of the comprehensive index of the city’s exhibition competitiveness, and the AHP method can better reflect the advantages and disadvantages of the city’s exhibition industry development.

The analytical model and mechanism of homogenization field (HOF) for lateral power devices is developed in this article. The HOF structure features periodical voltage sustaining cells connected in series from source to drain, which introduces the periodic field modulation to realize the 3-D homogenization of electric field. In the model, the periodic electric field distribution of the HOF structure is obtained by solving the Poisson’s equation in one half HOF-cell. Then, a design formula is deduced by considering the optimal field distribution. Two lateral double-diffused metal–oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) devices using the HOF structure were fabricated to demonstrate the analytical model. The analytical model is in good agreement with both the simulations and experiments. In the experiments, a low $R_{ \mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle ON},sp}$ of 53.3 $\text{m}\Omega \cdot $ cm2 was realized under a high ${V}_{B}$ of 669.5 V, achieving a HOF LDMOS with high figure of merit FOM $= {V}_{B}^{2}/{R}_{ \mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle ON},sp}$ of 8.41 MW/cm2.

Two new sesquiterpenoids, curcumanes E (1) and F (2), were isolated from the rhizome of Curcuma longa, and their structures and absolute configurations were examined using extensive spectroscopic analyses and ECD calculations. Interestingly, compounds 1 and 2 are diastereoisomers possessing a rare sesquiterpenoid skeleton that has been reported only once before. Both curcumanes E and F exhibit significant vasorelaxant effects against KCl-induced contraction of rat aortic rings, with EC50 values of 5.10 ± 0.79 and 5.58 ± 1.77 μM, respectively. These findings enrich the data concerning this rare type of sesquiterpenoids and further indicate that these rare sesquiterpenoids can effectively reduce blood pressure.

Background Sugarcane is the most important sugar crop, contributing > 80% of global sugar production. High sucrose content is a key target of sugarcane breeding, yet sucrose improvement in sugarcane remains extremely slow for decades. Molecular breeding has the potential to break through the genetic bottleneck of sucrose improvement. Dissecting the molecular mechanism(s) and identifying the key genetic elements controlling sucrose accumulation will accelerate sucrose improvement by molecular breeding. In our previous work, a proteomics dataset based on 12 independent samples from high- and low-sugar genotypes treated with ethephon or water was established. However, in that study, employing conventional analysis, only 25 proteins involved in sugar metabolism were identified . Results In this work, the proteomics dataset used in our previous study was reanalyzed by three different statistical approaches, which include a logistic marginal regression, a penalized multiple logistic regression named Elastic net, as well as a Bayesian multiple logistic regression method named Stochastic search variable selection (SSVS) to identify more sugar metabolism-associated proteins. A total of 507 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) were identified from this dataset, with 5 of them were validated by western blot. Among the DAPs, 49 proteins were found to participate in sugar metabolism-related processes including photosynthesis, carbon fixation as well as carbon, amino sugar, nucleotide sugar, starch and sucrose metabolism. Based on our studies, a putative network of key proteins regulating sucrose accumulation in sugarcane is proposed, with glucose-6-phosphate isomerase, 2-phospho-D-glycerate hydrolyase, malate dehydrogenase and phospho-glycerate kinase, as hub proteins. Conclusions The sugar metabolism-related proteins identified in this work are potential candidates for sucrose improvement by molecular breeding. Further, this work provides an alternative solution for omics data processing.

Total-ionizing-dose (TID) radiation response on unclosed edge termination is investigated for high voltage silicon-on-insulator (SOI) laterally diffused metal–oxide–semiconductor (LDMOS) in this article. Radiation-induced dual-channel leakage current model is proposed to reveal the mechanism of leakage current generation at OFF-state. Radiation causes a mass of positive oxide trapped charges generated in field oxide (FOX) layer and buried oxide layer. Owing to the P-SOI layer with significantly low doping concentration, two inversion channels are formed at the surface and bottom in the edge termination region, which provides parallel conduction paths. Electrons from the source N+ are pulled down and flow along the bottom channel while punchthrough occurring. The radiation-induced leakage current could be suppressed by thinning FOX layer, increasing the doping concentration of the P-SOI layer, and thickening the SOI layer.

The global region normalization (GRN) method is proposed to optimize the lateral superjunction (SJ), in this article. The GRN features normalizations in the global doping range of the SJ from zero to the maximum doping concentration ${N}_{\text {max}}$ that was theoretically determined by the pillar width ${W}_{\text {SJ}}$ . Then the optimization covers all the possible design points of the SJ. For the SJ with given ${W}_{\text {SJ}}$ and pillar length ${L}_{\text {SJ}}$ , the specific ON-resistance ${R}_{\text {on,sp}}$ and breakdown voltage ${V}_{\text {B}}$ are normalized in the global region of the doping concentra- tion ${N}_{\text {SJ}}$ . With the GRN method, the global normalization function ${f}_{\eta }$ is deduced to reflect the quantitative variation trend of ${R}_{\text {on,sp}}$ - ${V}_{\text {B}}$ and a design formula of the optimized ${N}_{\text {SJ}}$ is presented. Furthermore, lateral SJ devices were fabricated according to the formula. The measured ${R}_{\text {on,sp}}$ values of the SJ devices are reduced by almost 35% when compared with the theoretical limit of the triple RESURF device in a voltage range of 100–400 V. The experiments also reveal that the measured net ${R}_{\text {on,sp}}$ of the SJ region approaches the ${R}_{\text {on.sp}} \propto {V}_{\text {B}}^{{1.03}}$ relationship.

Ergometrine is widely used for the treatment of excessive postpartum uterine bleeding. Claviceps paspali is a common species for industrial production of ergometrine, which is often accompanied by lysergic acid α-hydroxyethylamide (LAH) and lysergic acid amide (LAA). Currently, direct evidence on the biosynthetic mechanism of LAH and LAA from lysergic acid in C. paspali is absent, except that LAH and LAA share the common precursor with ergometrine and LAA is spontaneously transformed from LAH. A comparison of the gene clusters between C. purpurea and C. paspali showed that the latter harbored the additional easO and easP genes. Thus, the knockout of easO and easP in the species should not only improve the ergometrine production but also elucidate the function. In this study, gene knockout of C. paspali by homologous recombination yielded two mutants ∆easOhetero-1 and ∆easPhetero-34 with ergometrine titers of 1559.36 mg∙L−1 and 837.57 mg∙L−1, which were four and two times higher than that of the wild-type control, respectively. While the total titer of LAH and LAA of ∆easOhetero-1 was lower than that of the wild-type control. The Aspergillus nidulans expression system was adopted to verify the function of easO and easP. Heterologous expression in A. nidulans further demonstrated that easO, but not easP, determines the formation of LAA.

A visible light photoredox-catalyzed N-centered radical addition/semipinacol rearrangement cascade of cycloalkanol-substituted 1H-indenes or styrenes with N-arylsulfonyl protected 1-aminopyridinium salts is presented. This protocol provides an efficient access to β-amino (spiro)cyclic ketones at ambient temperature, and has the advantages of broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, simple operation and mild conditions.

This article proposes a novel ultralow specific ON-resistance ( ${R}_{ \mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle {ON},sp}}$ ) triple reduced surface field (RESURF) lateral double-diffused MOSFET (LDMOS) with sandwich n-p-n layer. Compared with the conventional triple RESURF LDMOS with n-type top layer (NTTR LDMOS), the new structure is characterized by an additional N-buried layer below the P-buried layer. Due to the introduction of N-buried layer, the concentration of N-top layer will decrease to ensure charge balance, thus making the surface electric field distribution better and the higher additional doping introduced by N-top and N-buried layers can be achieved. The dose and implantation energy of n-p-n layers were simulated and optimized. Furthermore, in order to eliminate the premature avalanche breakdown occurring in the source-centered termination region, substrate termination technology (STT) is applied to avoid the high electric field peaks generated in the curved source region with small curvature radius. But the use of STT makes it easy to breakdown in the transitional region compared with the straight region. Therefore, the transitional region is studied and the crucial parameter $\Delta {L}$ in the layout of transitional region is also optimized. The fabricated device experimentally demonstrated improved performance with low ${R}_{ \mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle {ON},sp}}$ of 78.3 $\text{m}\Omega \cdot $ cm2 and high breakdown voltage (BV) of 795 V, and the experimental ${R}_{ \mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle {ON},sp}}$ is 26.8% lower than that of the conventional triple RESURF LDMOS (CTR LDMOS) and 10% lower than that of the NTTR LDMOS based on ${L}_{d} = 67 \mu \text{m}$ , which can break the silicon limit of CTR and NTTR LDMOS and meet the demand of 700-V high-voltage integrated circuit applications.

Fruit traits are important in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) and affect its quality and yield. These traits are controlled by quantitative trait loci (QTLs). In this study, we identified many major QTLs that control fruit length (Ftl), fruit diameter (Ftd), fruit shape (Fts), fruit weight (Ftw) and locule number (Lcn) in the F2 and F2:3 populations developed from the QTL mapping of GS6 (P1) and Qiemen (P2). A total of 111 simple sequence repeats and insertion/deletion markers were utilized to construct a linkage map with 12 linkage groups over a length of 1320.72 cM. An inclusive composite interval mapping analysis indicated that many QTLs were detected and included ftl2.1, ftd2.1, fts1.1, ftw2.1 and lcn1.1. As a novel QTL, lcn1.1 was located between HM1112 and EPMS709, and the genetic distance was 3.18 cM covering 60 predicted genes. Within the region, we identified Capana01g004285 as a candidate gene by functional annotation and expression analysis and found that it encodes the BREVIS RADIX (BRX) protein. Knockdown of CaBRX through the virus-induced gene silencing approach in GS6 reduced the number of locules and influenced the expressions of genes related to flower and locule development, suggesting that CaBRX plays an important function in the development of locules.

In this review, we have summarized the research progress on stability of solid acid catalysts. Three reasons for the deactivation of solid acids and corresponding catalytic activity improvement are discussed by taking several examples, giving a good inspiration for the study and development of stable solid acid catalysts in the future.

Existing evidence has revealed inconsistent results on the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and endometrial cancer (EC) risk. Herein, we aim to better understand this association. Systematic searches of PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science through 12 December 2019 were conducted. Observational studies that provided risk estimates of MetS and EC risk were eligible. The quality of the included studies was judged based on the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Summary odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random-effects model. Six studies, comprising 17,772 EC cases and 150,371 participants were included. MetS, diagnosed according to the criteria of the National Cholesterol Education Program-Third Adult Treatment Panel, was associated with an increased risk of EC (OR: 1.62; 95% CI = 1.26-2.07) with substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 78.3%). Furthermore, we found that women with MetS, diagnosed according to the criteria of the International Diabetes Federation, had a significantly higher risk of EC compared to healthy controls (OR: 1.45; 95% CI = 1.16-1.81; I2 = 64.6%). Our findings were generally consistent with the main results in the majority of prespecified subgroups, as well as in sensitivity analyses. In conclusion, MetS is associated with EC risk.

Silkworm silk fiber is an attractive material owing to its remarkable mechanical characteristics, excellent optical properties, and good biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, nano-processing of the silk fiber is still a challenge limiting its applications in nanoengineering and related fields. Herein, we report localized near-field enhancement-assisted ablation with an ultrafast laser to break this bottleneck. Localized processing of silk fiber, including nano-holing, nano-grooving, and cutting could retain the key molecular structure building blocks and the pristine functionality of the silk fiber. An extremely narrow nanohole with a width of ~64 nm was successfully achieved. The processed silk fiber can be used to transfer micro/nanoparticles and drugs, showing potential for biomedical engineering. The processing strategy developed in this study can also be extended to other materials, paving a new way for fabricating functional nanostructures with precisely controlled size and morphology.

To enhance ergot alkaloid production of Claviceps purpurea Cp-1 strain by epigenetic modification approach. The chemical epigenetic modifiers were screened to promote ergot alkaloid production of the Cp-1 strain. The histone deacetylase inhibitor suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) was found to significantly enhance the alkaloid productivity of the strain. Particularly, the titers of total ergot alkaloids were gradually increased with the increase of SAHA concentration in the fermentation medium, and the highest production of ergot alkaloids could be achieved at the concentration of 500 μM SAHA. Specially, the titers of ergometrine and total ergot alkaloids were as high as 95.4 mg/L and 179.7 mg/L, respectively, which were twice of those of the control. Furthermore, the mRNA expression levels of the most functional genes in the ergot alkaloid synthesis (EAS) gene cluster were up-regulated under SAHA treatment. It was proposed that SAHA might increase histone acetylation in the EAS gene cluster region in the chromosome, which would loosen the chromosome structure, and subsequently up-regulate the mRNA expression levels of genes involved in the biosynthesis of ergot alkaloids, thereby resulting in the markedly increase in the production of ergot alkaloids. The ergot alkaloid production by the C. purpurea Cp-1 strain can be effectively increased by the application of histone deacetylase inhibitor. Our work provides a reference for using the chemical epigenetic modifiers to improve SM production in other fungi.

Background Calcineurin B-like proteins (CBLs) are major Ca2+ sensors that interact with CBL-interacting protein kinases (CIPKs) to regulate growth and development in plants. The CBL-CIPK network is involved in stress response, yet little is understood on how CBL-CIPK function in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), a staple vegetable crop that is threatened by biotic and abiotic stressors. Results In the present study, nine CaCBL and 26 CaCIPK genes were identified in pepper and the genes were named based on their chromosomal order. Phylogenetic and structural analysis revealed that CaCBL and CaCIPK genes clustered in four and five groups, respectively. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) assays showed that CaCBL and CaCIPK genes were constitutively expressed in different tissues, and their expression patterns were altered when the plant was exposed to Phytophthora capsici, salt and osmotic stress. CaCIPK1 expression changed in response to stress, including exposure to P. capsici, NaCl, mannitol, salicylic acid (SA), methyl jasmonate (MeJA), abscisic acid (ABA), ethylene (ETH), cold and heat stress. Knocking down CaCIPK1 expression increased the susceptibility of pepper to P. capsici, reduced root activity, and altered the expression of defense related genes. Transient overexpression of CaCIPK1 enhanced H2O2 accumulation, cell death, and expression of genes involved in defense. Conclusions Nine CaCBL and 26 CaCIPK genes were identified in the pepper genome, and the expression of most CaCBL and CaCIPK genes were altered when the plant was exposed to stress. In particular, we found that CaCIPK1 is mediates the pepper plant’s defense against P. capsici. These results provide the groundwork for further functional characterization of CaCBL and CaCIPK genes in pepper.

The present work was schemed to explore the association between GSTs genes polymorphisms and the NAFLD vulnerability via meta-analysis.Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wanfang were retrieved for eligible literatures previous to March 10, 2021. The odds ratio (OR) of the dichotomic variables and the standardized mean difference of quantitative variables with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were computed to evaluate the strength of the associations. The quality of included studies were assessed via using Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS).Results: In total, 7 case-control studies encompassing 804 NAFLD patients and 1362 disease-free controls in this meta-analysis. Ultimately, this analysis included six, five and five studies for GSTM1, GSTT1 and GSTP1 polymorphisms respectively. The pooled data revealed that the GSTs genes single-nucleotide polymorphisms had conspicuous associations with NAFLD susceptibility: for GSTM1, null vs. present, OR=1.46, 95%CI 1.20-1.79, P=0.0002; for GSTT1, null vs. present, OR=1.34, 95%CI 1.06-1.68, P=0.01; for GSTP1, Ile/Val or Val/Val vs. Ile/Ile, OR=1.60, 95%CI 1.23-2.09, P=0.0005.Conclusion: This work revealed that the GSTM1 null, GSTT1 null and GSTP1-Val genotypes might be related to increased NAFLD susceptibility.

Background Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II) or Hunter syndrome is a rare X-linked recessive genetic disease resulting from deficient activity of the iduronate-2-sulfatase(IDS) enzyme and the accumulation of glycosaminoglycans in almost all cells, tissues and organs, which makes viscera function impaired. This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics, leukocyte IDS activity and mutations in the IDS gene of 30 Chinese children with MPS II. Methods: Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed on samples of the 30 patients. Results: A total of 25 mutations were identified in the IDS genes including 16 previously reported and 9 novel mutations (6 frameshift: c.815-818dupAACG, c.1453dupA, c.1270-1271delGT, c.1484-1485insTA, c.854delA, c.12_13delCC; 3missense: c.325 T > G, c.140 T > C, c.248 T > G). The computer simulations of the protein structure analysis of the novel missense mutations showed these amino acid replacements (W109G tryptophan replaced by the glycine, L47P leucine replaced by the proline, V83G valine replaced by glycine) near the active site of IDS protein sulfatase domain and would cause a severe impairment of protein structure and function. Conclusions: Our study expands the spectrum of MPS II genotype, provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms of MPS II, and contributes to future studies of genotype-phenotypic associations to estimate prognosis and develop new treatment regimens.

The pooled data revealed that the GSTs genes SNPs had conspicuous associations with NAFLD susceptibility: for GSTM1, null versus present, OR = 1.46, 95%CI 1.20 to 1.79, P = .0002; for GSTT1, null versus present, OR = 1.34, 95%CI 1.06 to 1.68, P = .01; for GSTP1, Ile/Val or Val/Val versus Ile/Ile, OR = 1.60, 95%CI 1.23 to 2.09, P = .0005.This work revealed that the GSTM1 null, GSTT1 null and GSTP1-Val genotypes might be related to increased NAFLD susceptibility.

Sorting and assembly machinery component 50 homolog (SAMM50) gene single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been connected with the susceptibility of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but with inconsistent results across the current evidence. The present work was schemed to explore the association between SAMM50 gene SNPs and NAFLD vulnerability via meta-analysis.PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang were retrieved for eligible literature previous to June 10, 2021. The odds ratios (ORs) of the dichotomic variables and the standardized mean difference of quantitative variables with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were computed to evaluate the strength of the associations. The quality of included studies was assessed using Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS).In total, 8 case-control studies encompassing 6297 NAFLD patients and 7306 disease-free controls in this meta-analysis. Ultimately, this analysis included 8, 6, and 5 studies for rs2143571, rs3761472, and rs738491 polymorphisms respectively. The pooled data revealed that the 3 polymorphisms had conspicuous associations with NAFLD susceptibility: rs2143571, A vs. G, OR=1.51, 95% CI, 1.37-1.66, P.01; rs3761472, A vs. G, OR=1.50, 95% CI, 1.35-1.67, P.01; rs738491, A vs. G, OR=1.51, 95% CI, 1.40-1.63, P.01.This meta-analysis suggests that rs2143571, rs3761472, and rs738491 polymorphisms of the SAMM50 gene are appreciably associated with augmented risk of NAFLD vulnerability. It will provide the latest evidence to support the susceptibility of SAMM50 gene polymorphisms and NAFLD, and provide strategies for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of arthroscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of synovial chondromatosis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJSC). METHODS: The cases of 16 patients preliminarily diagnosed with TMJSC by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) from July 2011 to December 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. If the diagnosis was confirmed by arthroscopy, the opening operation was performed. The preoperative MRI, arthroscopy and opening operation, postoperative pathology and postoperative MRI of confirmed cases were analyzed, and clinical follow-up was performed to evaluate the curative effect of open surgery. The degree of mouth opening and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores for pain pre-operation and during follow-up of the confirmed cases were analyzed by t-test. RESULTS: Fourteen cases of TMJSC were diagnosed by arthroscopy, consistent with the postoperative pathological diagnosis. Postoperative MRI examination showed that articular cavity lesions basically disappeared. Ten patients with synovial chondromatosis were followed-up (follow-up rate, 71.4%) from 6 months to 7 years and 8 months (average follow-up time, 17.6 months); no recurrence was found, and clinical symptoms improved by varying degrees. The forward-biased diode has been widely applied in electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection projects. In this Letter, various diodes with finger-shaped topology are studied by transmission line pulse (TLP) and emission microscope (EMMI) experiments. Among them, a novel mix-mode diode with P-well and floating deep N-well, called MMDIO, is fabricated by the same process and footprint, except that some discrete N+ regions are being added to the original anode P+ region. This approach forms a combination of a parasitic NPN transistor and a PNPN structure, which can significantly optimise the ESD current efficiency and clamping voltage (V CL). According to the comprehensive comparison, the MMDIO with overlapped anode N+ layout could endure the failure current 1.25 times higher than that of a regular diode under the same junction capacitance (C j), while the V CL is reduced by 20%. Accordingly, the MMDIO is an attractive solution to pass the higher ESD level without any negative influence.

A small-size vertical device with field plate is designed and experimentally realized in this paper. The modulation effect of the field plate causes an enhanced bulk electric field (ENBULF) and improves the breakdown voltage ${V}_{\textsf {B}}$ . A 2-D electric field model is developed to give the ENBULF condition corresponding to the maximum ${V}_{\textsf {B}}$ and the optimal specific ON-resistance ${R}_{ \mathrm{ON},\textsf {sp}}$ . Based on the model, the minimum figure of merit (FOM) (gate charge ${Q}_{\textsf {g}}\times \mathrm{\scriptstyle ON}$ -resistance ${R}_{ \mathrm{ON}}$ ) is discussed for a typical ENBULF device, i.e., the shield-gate vertical double diffused metal–oxide–semiconductor (SG-VDMOS). The calculated results are in good agreement with the simulations. Furthermore, a 35-V SG-VDMOS is analytically designed and experimentally implemented, which obtains a ${R}_{ \mathrm{ON},\textsf {sp}}$ of 4.4 $\text{m}\Omega \cdot \textsf {mm}^{2}$ and a gate to drain charge ${Q}_{\textsf {gd}}$ of 11.3 nC, respectively. The experiment realizes the minimal FOM and a ${R}_{ \mathrm{ON},\textsf {sp}}$ reduced by 28.6% when compared with the conventional “silicon limit.”

The revolutionary discovery of penicillin only marks the start of our exploration for valuable fungal natural products. Advanced genome sequencing technologies have translated the fungal genome into a huge reservoir of "recipes" - biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) - for biosynthesis. Studying complex fungal genetics demands specific gene manipulation strategies. This review summarizes the current progress in efficient gene targeting in fungal cells and heterologous expression systems for expressing fungal BGCs of fungal secondary metabolites.
