A recent study conducted by researchers at the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University compared different internal fixation methods for treating pronation external rotation (PER) type IV ankle fractures. The study used finite element analysis to investigate the biomechanical stability and safety of four configurations of fibular plates and screws. The results showed that all four fixation methods provided comparable stability and safety, with no significant differences. However, the study acknowledged the limitations of the methodology and called for further refinement to enable reliable clinical applications.
