Abstract

A recent study conducted in the United Kingdom examined the economic impact of limb-salvage strategies in treating chronic limb-threatening ischaemia. The study found that shifting away from primary major lower-limb amputation towards revascularization procedures could result in significant cost savings for healthcare providers without major cost increases later in the care pathway. The research utilized a model based on national registry data and estimated a net saving of €9,645,259 to the National Health Service. These findings suggest that decisions made in hospitals regarding care options can have broader benefits. [Extracted from the article]
