1. Synthesis and characterization of an open-pore toxic-element-free Ti-based bulk metallic glass foam for bio-implant application

Abstract

A series of porous toxic-element-free Ti42Zr40Si15Ta3 bulk metallic glass with 13–54 vol.% porosity are produced via powder metallurgy by the space holder method. The amorphous nature, foam morphology, mechanical properties, electrochemical response in simulation body fluid and in-vivo biocompatibility responses are systematically investigated. Results show that these open-cell Ti-based bulk metallic glass foams (BMGFs) exhibit yield strength from 140 to 730 MPa and Young’s moduli from 8 to 53 GPa, matching very well with the mechanical properties of human bone and the estimated data by theoretical models. Compared to the bulk metallic glass (BMG) of the same composition, the high exposed surface area of the produced Ti-based BMGFs exhibited higher current in the cyclic voltammetry (CV) and potential state tests. However, no specific peak corresponding to the oxidation or reduction response of the composition elements is found in the electrochemical test. Moreover, the six-month in-vivo tests in New Zealand white rabbits shows that the good osteo-integration between the newly growth bone and the implanted Ti-based BMGFs, making them promising new candidates for bio-implant applications in avoiding stress shielding or bio-unfriendly symptoms.

5. VISUAL EFFECTS OF OBJECTS UNDER METAMERISM WITH MULTI-SPECTRAL LIGHT SOURCE

Abstract

This study attempts to simulate the metamerism colour, and the guava was used as the target object. We design four sets of metamers with a correlated colour temperature of 4000K and an illuminance of 750lux. The light source was simulated in the LED cube. The subjects with convenience sampling observed the visual effects, including look delicious, colourful, and colour rendering of guava under metamerism, then analysed its relationship with CRI and CQS. The results showed that colour rendering and visual effects are not a positive relationship, and the effect of CQS is closer to the visual effects of the subjects. The results of this study can be used as a reference for light source lighting designers as a basis for improving lighting conditions. In the future, we can collect databases for the different objects with an optimized multi-spectral light source.

Abstract

International audience; BACKGROUND: Patients who have had a stroke with unknown time of onset have been previously excluded from thrombolysis. We aimed to establish whether intravenous alteplase is safe and effective in such patients when salvageable tissue has been identified with imaging biomarkers. METHODS: We did a systematic review and meta-analysis of individual patient data for trials published before Sept 21, 2020. Randomised trials of intravenous alteplase versus standard of care or placebo in adults with stroke with unknown time of onset with perfusion-diffusion MRI, perfusion CT, or MRI with diffusion weighted imaging-fluid attenuated inversion recovery (DWI-FLAIR) mismatch were eligible. The primary outcome was favourable functional outcome (score of 0-1 on the modified Rankin Scale [mRS]) at 90 days indicating no disability using an unconditional mixed-effect logistic-regression model fitted to estimate the treatment effect. Secondary outcomes were mRS shift towards a better functional outcome and independent outcome (mRS 0-2) at 90 days. Safety outcomes included death, severe disability or death (mRS score 4-6), and symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage. This study is registered with PROSPERO, CRD42020166903. FINDINGS: Of 249 identified abstracts, four trials met our eligibility criteria for inclusion: WAKE-UP, EXTEND, THAWS, and ECASS-4. The four trials provided individual patient data for 843 individuals, of whom 429 (51%) were assigned to alteplase and 414 (49%) to placebo or standard care. A favourable outcome occurred in 199 (47%) of 420 patients with alteplase and in 160 (39%) of 409 patients among controls (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1·49 [95% CI 1·10-2·03]; p=0·011), with low heterogeneity across studies (I(2)=27%). Alteplase was associated with a significant shift towards better functional outcome (adjusted common OR 1·38 [95% CI 1·05-1·80]; p=0·019), and a higher odds of independent outcome (adjusted OR 1·50 [1·06-2·12]; p=0·022). In the alteplase group, 90 (21%) patients were severely disabled or died (mRS score 4-6), compared with 102 (25%) patients in the control group (adjusted OR 0·76 [0·52-1·11]; p=0·15). 27 (6%) patients died in the alteplase group and 14 (3%) patients died among controls (adjusted OR 2·06 [1·03-4·09]; p=0·040). The prevalence of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage was higher in the alteplase group than among controls (11 [3%] vs two [\textless1%], adjusted OR 5·58 [1·22-25·50]; p=0·024). INTERPRETATION: In patients who have had a stroke with unknown time of onset with a DWI-FLAIR or perfusion mismatch, intravenous alteplase resulted in better functional outcome at 90 days than placebo or standard care. A net benefit was observed for all functional outcomes despite an increased risk of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage. Although there were more deaths with alteplase than placebo, there were fewer cases of severe disability or death. FUNDING: None.

Abstract

in this paper, we demonstrate a high density heterogeneous large package using a RDL interposer with six interconnection layers. Four Si chiplets and two HBM modules are connected with fine pitch copper lines to deliver a complete system-in-package solution for high performance computation. The multilayer interconnections provide excellent design flexibility to optimize signal, power, and ground planes. The RDL interposer has generic structural advantages in interconnection integrity and bump joint reliability, which allows further scaling up of The package size for more complicated functional integration.

Abstract

Stroke thrombolysis with alteplase is currently recommended 0-4·5 h after stroke onset. We aimed to determine whether perfusion imaging can identify patients with salvageable brain tissue with symptoms 4·5 h or more from stroke onset or with symptoms on waking who might benefit from thrombolysis.In this systematic review and meta-analysis of individual patient data, we searched PubMed for randomised trials published in English between Jan 1, 2006, and March 1, 2019. We also reviewed the reference list of a previous systematic review of thrombolysis and searched ClinicalTrials.gov for interventional studies of ischaemic stroke. Studies of alteplase versus placebo in patients (aged ≥18 years) with ischaemic stroke treated more than 4·5 h after onset, or with wake-up stroke, who were imaged with perfusion-diffusion MRI or CT perfusion were eligible for inclusion. The primary outcome was excellent functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score 0-1) at 3 months, adjusted for baseline age and clinical severity. Safety outcomes were death and symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage. We calculated odds ratios, adjusted for baseline age and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, using mixed-effects logistic regression models. This study is registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42019128036.We identified three trials that met eligibility criteria: EXTEND, ECASS4-EXTEND, and EPITHET. Of the 414 patients included in the three trials, 213 (51%) were assigned to receive alteplase and 201 (49%) were assigned to receive placebo. Overall, 211 patients in the alteplase group and 199 patients in the placebo group had mRS assessment data at 3 months and thus were included in the analysis of the primary outcome. 76 (36%) of 211 patients in the alteplase group and 58 (29%) of 199 patients in the placebo group had achieved excellent functional outcome at 3 months (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1·86, 95% CI 1·15-2·99, p=0·011). Symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage was more common in the alteplase group than the placebo group (ten [5%] of 213 patients vs one [1%] of 201 patients in the placebo group; adjusted OR 9·7, 95% CI 1·23-76·55, p=0·031). 29 (14%) of 213 patients in the alteplase group and 18 (9%) of 201 patients in the placebo group died (adjusted OR 1·55, 0·81-2·96, p=0·66).Patients with ischaemic stroke 4·5-9 h from stroke onset or wake-up stroke with salvageable brain tissue who were treated with alteplase achieved better functional outcomes than did patients given placebo. The rate of symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage was higher with alteplase, but this increase did not negate the overall net benefit of thrombolysis.None.

Abstract

This work presents a novel fuzzy multi-objective programming (FMOP) model with a modified S-curve membership function capable of solving integrated multi-component, multi-supplier, and multi-time-period production planning problems by using fuzzy objectives for the mobile phone manufacturing sector. The proposed model attempts to minimize total manufacturing, total inventory holding and total penalty costs simultaneously in relation to manufacturer/supplier capacity and warehouse space. Additionally, the proposed model provides a systematic means of facilitating the fuzzy decision-making process, enabling decision makers to interactively adjust the search direction during the solution procedure in order to obtain the preferred satisfactory solution of a decision maker (DM). Moreover, adequacy of the proposed model is demonstrated, based on an implementation design involving several scenarios of manufacturing production system for mobile phones. Analytical results provide a valuable reference for decision managers attempting to more thoroughly understand the systematic analysis and potential of cost-effective production planning.

Abstract

Tolerance induction by means of costimulation blockade has been successfully applied in solid organ transplantation; however, its efficacy in vascularized composite allotransplantation, containing a vascularized bone marrow component and thus a constant source of donor-derived stem cells, remains poorly explored. In this study, osteomyocutaneous allografts (alloOMCs) from Balb/c (H2(d) ) mice were transplanted into C57BL/6 (H2(b) ) recipients. Immunosuppression consisted of 1 mg anti-CD154 on day 0, 0.5 mg CTLA4Ig on day 2 and rapamycin (RPM; 3 mg/kg per day from days 0-7, then every other day for 3 weeks). Long-term allograft survival, donor-specific tolerance and donor-recipient cell trafficking were evaluated. Treatment with costimulation blockade plus RPM resulted in long-term graft survival (>120 days) of alloOMC in 12 of 15 recipients compared with untreated controls (median survival time [MST] ≈10.2 ± 0.8 days), RPM alone (MST ≈33 ± 5.5 days) and costimulation blockade alone (MST ≈45.8 ± 7.1 days). Donor-specific hyporesponsiveness in recipients with viable grafts was demonstrated in vitro. Evidence of donor-specific tolerance was further assessed in vivo by secondary donor-specific skin graft survival and third-party graft rejection. A significant increase of Foxp3(+) regulatory T cells was evident in tolerant animals. Donor cells populated peripheral blood, thymus, and both donor and recipient bone marrow. Consequently, combined anti-CD154/CTLA4Ig costimulation blockade-based therapy induces donor-specific tolerance in a stringent murine alloOMC transplant model.

Abstract

A three-dimensional (3-D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methodology is developed to simulate the thermal mixing and reverse flow characteristics in an in-house T-junction. Different steady-state turbulence models are adopted in the simulations and assessed against the measured data of temperature distributions at various cross-sections of the main pipe. The unsteady-state turbulence models may be suitable for resolving the amplitude and frequency of temperature oscillation in a T-junction. However, T-junctions are just one component in an entire complex piping system. The steady-state turbulence models therefore attract some interest for T-junction simulations in engineering applications. Two cases, with the flowrate combinations of 30/200 and 30/400 in the branch/main pipes, are used to validate CFD simulations with different turbulence models. The reverse flow from the branch back upstream of the T-junction intersection is more significant for the lower flowrate of the main pipe, which can be confirmed by both measured data and predicted results. Based on the temperature comparison of the measurements and the predictions, the v2f turbulence model is most suitable for capturing the flow reversal characteristics in the T-junction, while the realizable k – e turbulence model reproduces the measured data more accurately for the T-junction with the higher flowrate in the main pipe and the lesser reverse flow. The present results can provide a useful reference for simulating the thermal mixing and reverse flow in a T-junction with various steady-state turbulence models.

Abstract

Micro groove, as a typical surface texture, has played an important role in the development of many advanced fields. This paper introduced an electrochemical machining of micro groove using masked porous cathode. A porous metallic plate covered with a mask was prepared as the masked porous cathode. During machining, the masked porous cathode was covered on the workpiece, and the electrolyte could flow into the machining region through the porous structure in the cathode for machining. As the machining unit was closed, the distribution of electrical field was uniform on the machining surface, which could improve the machining accuracy. In addition, the masked porous mask had no damage during machining and could be reused, which improved the machining efficiency. With this method, multiphysics coupling model, including flow field model, electric current model, heat transfer model, reactant transport model, and moving mesh model, was built to investigate their influence on the machining process with different flow modes. The simulation and experiment results indicated that compared with other two flow modes, jet flow mode could provide a high electrolyte velocity in the machining region around the nozzle, and the mass transfer process was enhanced, which was helpful to improve the machining quality. The effect of pulse duty cycle was investigated, and the pulse duty cycle of 20% with the frequency of 2 kHz could further improve the mass transfer process and was preferred to generate micro groove with low standard deviation and roughness. In addition, with the applied voltage rising, the depth of micro groove increased, and increasing the nozzle reciprocating motion number could enhance the mass transfer process during machining, which further improved machining quality. Finally, with the optimized flow mode and machining parameters, a group of ten micro grooves were well generated by using a masked porous cathode with ten micro slits, and the width was about 330 μm with the depth of 45 μm.

Abstract

This study aimed to characterize the histological, biomechanical and biochemical properties of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of the domestic dog in health and disease. In addition, we sought to identify structure-function relationships and to characterize TMJ degenerative lesions that may be found naturally in this species. TMJs (n=20) from fresh cadaver heads (n=10) of domestic dogs were examined macroscopically and microscopicallyand by cone-beam computed tomography. The TMJ discs were evaluated for their mechanical and biochemical properties. If TMJ arthritic changes were found, pathological characteristics weredescribed and compared with healthy joints. Five (50%) dogs demonstrated macroscopically normal fibrocartilaginous articular surfaces and fibrous discs and five (50%) dogs exhibited degenerative changes that were observed either in the articular surfaces or the discs. In the articulating surfaces, these changes included erosions, conformational changes and osteophytes. In the discs, degenerative changes were represented by full-thickness perforations. Histologically, pathological specimens demonstrated fibrillations with or without erosions, subchondral bone defects and subchondral bone sclerosis. Significant anisotropy in the TMJ discs was evident on histology and tensile mechanical testing. Specifically, the discs were significantly stiffer and stronger in the rostrocaudal direction compared with the mediolateral direction. No significant differences were detected in compressive properties of different disc regions. Biochemical analyses showed high collagen content and low glycosaminoglycan (GAG) content. No significant differences in biochemical composition, apart from GAG, were detected among the disc regions. GAG concentration was significantly higher in the central region as compared with the caudal (posterior) region. The TMJ of the domestic dog exhibits similarities, but also differences, compared with other mammals with regards to structure-function relationships. The TMJ articular surfaces and the disc exhibit degenerative changes as seen in other species, including perforation of the disc as seen in man. The degenerative changes had greater effects on the mechanical properties compared with the biochemical properties of the TMJ components. Translational motion of the TMJ does occur in dogs, but is limited.

A 40 nm charge-trap embedded NVM technology is presented which is operational at the main power supply of 0.81 to 1.21 V. It is based on SONOS and requires only five extra masking steps beyond standard CMOS. A product-ready 8Mb macro is used to demonstrate technology capabilities. Key features are 25 ns read access time in the 0.99 to 1.21 V supply range and very low current consumption. The macro provides several power- saving modes, 100k write cycles and 10-year data retention for application in consumer and industrial SoCs.

Abstract

A new original method to reduce time and resource consuming photolithography mask production operations has been suggested. By means of femtosecond laser direct writing, thus, gaining cleaner surrounding than for nano- and pico-second pulse processing, a 45° angle ablation geometry has been proven. LED chip separation trenches and n -GaN layer exposure were made simultaneously saving from one fundamental processing and alignment step without adverse effect from the laser-processing on the quantum well region.

Abstract

The size of the plastic ball grid array (PBGA) package is getting smaller, and the problem of delamination in packaging has become more important. Therefore, in this study, the packaging process is improved through the finite element analysis (FEA) to analyze the delamination in the packaging components. First, the model of sealing and lamination is built through uniform design method (UDM) with Kriging model and response surface methodology (RSM). Then, the differences between these methods are investigated. The optimal parameters are obtained by UDM and RSM that the mold pressures are 31.7 and 42.57 MPa, temperature is 171.61 and 185 °C, and shoulder width is 358.33 and 800 μm, respectively. Due to process factors of sealing and lamination has an interaction with each other, the RSM in this case is more accurate. Therefore, the result obtained by RSM is more appropriate for the process.

Abstract

Debris flow is a serious disaster which always leads to huge damages in Taiwan. After typhoon or downpour, the fluid pressure and the impact of the huge rocks and floating woods brought by debris flow may contribute to structural damage of bridges, or damage the bridge base which is attributed to the washout of the riverbed. These phenomena would seriously influence works concerning shelter-seeking and damage-relieving. Case studies in this research consist of two phase. For the first phase, data of debris flow cases such as typhoon and rainfall information Kaohsiung Baolai No.2 Bridge in Taiwan as case in 100/200 years return flood peak flow. Numerical simulation was performed using SMS-2D, result were presented in the main deep trough and area. For the second phase, this study designed a checking evaluation procedure of concrete cracking failure of foundation of bridge by using mathematic algorithm. This author certainly expects this procedure could be a further reference for pier and foundation of the bridge design.

Abstract

Introduction/Background Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a natural form of phospholipids contained in platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is often used in treating osteoarthritis. Abnormal synovial fluid production is related to osteoarthritis, which may due to dysregulated vascular permeability mediated by synoviocytes related angiogenesis factors expression. In this study, we investigated the effect of LPA on the angiogenic factors expression in synoviocytes from normal and osteoarthritis tissue. Material and method Primary culture of human fibroblast-like synoviocytes (HFLS) from normal (N) and osteoarthritis (OA) tissue and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were used in this study. The expression patterns of LPA receptors on HFLS-N and HFLS-OA were determined by qRT-PCR. The effect of LPA on the angiogenetic capability was evaluated by determining the effect of conditioned medium from LPA treated HFLS-N and HFLS-OA on HUVEC endothelial cell permeability and tube formation assays. Specific LPA modulated angiogenetic factors were screened by angiogenesis protein array and confirmed by ELISA. The role of specific angiogenesis protein was confirmed by recombinant protein. Results The expression levels of LPA specific receptors between HFLS-N and HFLS-OA are different. LPA may enhance the angiogenesis effect of HFLS-N but not in HFLS-OA on endothelial cell permeability and tube formation on the matrix gel. Meanwhile, the LPA activated angiogenesis related factors MMP-9, IGFBP-1 and Prolactin are at least partly involved in promoting the angiogenetic capability of HFLS-N. Conclusion HFLS-OA may lose the ability to express MMP-9, IGFBP-1 and Prolactin. The clinical significances of MMP-9, IGFBP-1 and Prolactin need further investigations.

BackgroundDespite mounting evidence that non-injury-related factors have an important role in recovery from injury; specific variables associated with surgery outcomes are poorly understood. This lack of knowledge complicates efforts to improve the care of work-related hand injury (WRHI) patients. However, substantial research and investigation have still not clarified these underlying relationships, which merit further attention.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) outcome for WRHI patients after the impact of event and to investigate the moderated mediation analysis associated with their decision trust and regret.MethodsA cross sectional study design was used to investigate the impact of event and the associated HRQL in 53 WRHI patients following severe and major hand injury. All consenting patients completed the Impact of Event Scale Revised, the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised, Decisional Trust scale, Decisional Regret scale and Short Form-36.Anticipated achievementIn the result of mediation analysis, patients affected HRQL via decisional trust and decisional regret, respectively. In addition, our data suggest that certain decisional trust and decisional regret (partial) characteristics significantly moderate this association. These findings may aid in the development of clinical interventions to enhance HRQL for WRHI patients. Abstract

The identification of the sources of atomic tungsten and the measurement of their radiation distribution in front of all plasma-facing components has been performed in JET with the help of two digital cameras with the same two-dimensional view, equipped with interference filters of different bandwidths centred on the W I (400.88 nm) emission line. A new algorithm for the subtraction of the continuum radiation was successfully developed and is now used to evaluate the W erosion even in the inner divertor region where the strong recombination emission is dominating over the tungsten emission. Analysis of W sputtering and W redistribution in the divertor by video imaging spectroscopy with high spatial resolution for three different magnetic configurations was performed. A strong variation of the emission of the neutral tungsten in toroidal direction and corresponding W erosion has been observed. Abstract

Beryllium oxide (BeO) and deuteroxide (BeOxDy) have been found on the melted zone of a beryllium tile extracted from the upper dump plate of JET-ILW (2011–2012 campaign). Results have been obtained using Raman microscopy, which is sensitive to both the chemical bond and crystal structure, with a micrometric lateral resolution. BeO is found with a wurtzite crystal structure. BeOxDy is found as three different types which are not the β-phase but behaves as molecular species like Be(OD)2, O(Be-D)2 and DBeOD. The presence of a small amount of trapped D2O is also suspected. Our results therefore strongly suggest that D trapping occurs after melting through the formation of deuteroxides. Management of Change (MOC) is a process for evaluating and controlling modifications to facility design, operation, organisation, or activities. It is one of the most important elements of Process Safety Management (PSM). In chemical process industries (CPI), MOC is required to ensure that safety, health and environment are controlled. In recent years, the number of accidents related to MOC failure is significant and caused by the lacks of MOC management, organisation safety culture, design failure, incompetency, human factor and etc. From the accident statistics published by Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB-US), European Major Accident Reporting System (EMARS-European), Failure Knowledge Database (FKD-Japan) and Accident Reporting Information Analysis (ARIA-France), MOC contributes significantly to the occurrence of accidents and its percentage contribution to accident rate is not decreasing over the past 20 years. In this paper, the contribution of MOC failure to accidents and their main failure factor are identified from the study of over thousands of accident cases and analysed with data mining method. Study revealed the major factor of MOC failure are the lack of organisation commitment, lack of experience, limitation of resources, inadequate of HAZOP study, human factor, safety culture and etc. Good practice of MOC has to be inculcated in CPI through learning from past accident and continuous improvement of MOC system.
