The article explores on the simple procedure for processing event recorder data. The strip chart device called event recorder reads the state of an electrical switch with reference to time used in various studies is said to require a long to process the gathered data. According to the author, the usual procedure uses scissors to cut the strip charts into segments representing the desired time base which is tedious. He suggests the use of a stapler and paper cutter as an alternative for collecting the gathered data.

This paper presents the results of the trial runs of the simple static model, one of the stages in the development of a more comprehensive model of the urban spatial structure. This has been calibrated and tested using data of the town of Reading. The basic feature of this model is the distinction between two interdependent processes. The first allocates floor space (buildings) to sites in answer to the aggregate demands for space of all activities (basic employment, residential and service activities), and is constrained by the transportation network, and the geographical and planning constraints. The second process allocates a particular activity group within the town, according to its functional relationships with other activities, and is constrained by the location of the buildings and the transportation network. These two aspects are represented in the simple static model by two submodels: the stock model and the activity model. The stock model distributes the quantities of floor space throughout the town, given the transportation network, land available for development and the location of basic industries. The activity model allocates residential population according to a “terminal-opportunity” model, and the service activities according to a market-potential model, these activities are constrained by the transportation system and the floor space available. Hart R. A. (1973) Economic expectations and the decision to migrate: An analysis by socio-economic group, Reg. Studies 7, 271–285. This paper contains two main findings. Firstly, there is both theoretical and empirical justification for the view that inter-regional migration in Great Britain is a function of the income and the employment expectations of potential migrants rather than their observation of spatial economic differentials at a point in time. Secondly, if one disaggregates migrants by socio-economic groups there is evidence that the various groups respond somewhat differently to the economic stimuli. The conclusion is that by introducing the dynamics behind the migration decision as well as observing migrants in economically cohesive groups we are able to gain a greater insight into the mechanism behind the economic migration process. However, the explanatory power of the dynamic model still leaves much to be desired. The often unwelcome fact of returns from dissatisfied customers can be of help to garment manufacturers if they regard returns as a source of information. Returns, although not large in number, can provide manufacturers with information about specific areas of customer dissatisfaction not obtainable in any other manner. The article examines the problem of the universal applicability of the scientific method, with a particular focus on the ambiguous nature of management science. The author suggests that, while economists and businessmen endeavor to adhere to the scientific method, it is almost impossible to do so while studying the decision making processes. The five fundamental components of the scientific method, as offered by Professor Philip Morse, are presented. The author questions whether or not it is possible to convert human qualities into numerical data. Various techniques used by mathematical economists are examined. Personality tests are also discussed.

The article discusses the study which aims to stimulates the validity of information exchange from the results of personnel selection and actions including reassignments, promotions, and initial selections. The study administered a battery to workers who had been on a job for a particular length of time to passed the criterion data and training period. It mentions that the U.S. Employment Service and the U.S. Department of Labor has made forms in conformity with client's copy to produce accurate and complete forms which can be used by lithographic platemaker. It states that the use of sparse data in frequency function estimations can be used in determining the expected value that added data would provide, and if its value exceeds the cost of gathering the data. It comments on the use of constrained maximization of entropy in frequency function estimation, which can result in the same frequencies in large parent populations of random variables as the most probable combination of observations which the constraints can satisfy.

The article presents a discussion of the numerical analysis of complex rain forest communities in New South Wales. The article implies that the numerical analysis was used to measure the quantitative data gathered from Canberra metric and three forms of partitioned diversity of species. Complete data were acquired in large sites and diverse forest types, homogeneous sites, and sites with soil discontinuity. The results of the study is discussed in the article using a general context of floristic primary survey of tropical and subtropical rain forest.

The article reports on a study on the percentage frequency and quadrat size in analytical studies of weed flora. This study was conducted while investigating the distribution of the individuals of the weed species in small plots of cultivable land which were left undeveloped for a short duration. Densities are compared by their standard errors when calculated and observed. A disagreement between the field and calculated data is revealed which however improves when the less common species are excluded and the relationship between the quadrat size and the average number of species found within the quadrat size is studied.

The use of color difference formulas in the textile industry is somewhat hampered by the relatively low degree of correlation obtained between color differences calculated with a color difference formula and average visual judgment as represented by acceptability judgments of matches around standards. Best results in practical work could be expected from a formula based on ellipses representing the average visual judgment of a group of observers. Not enough data exist presently to make such a formula possible. This investigation adds significantly to existing acceptability data. Acceptabilities for a total of 180 samples around ten standards, located mostly in areas of color space where no such data existed, have been determined. from judgments under artificial day-light by 16 skilled observers. Approximate 50% acceptability contours developed from this data fit in well with contours of previously published data. Two areas of sudden discontinuity in the direction of the major axis of the acceptability ellipses were found at dominant wavelengths of approximately 494 and 570 nm and may be of significance for the theory of color Vision. Sixty-four samples around four standards were also observed and judged Under incandescent light. Critical relationships exist between flame retardants, substrates and test conditions which, when correlated, give an insight into the success or failure of the prevention of physical injuries. An investigation has been conducted to determine whether or not selected test procedures might relate decomposition of fabrics to flaming. Thermal gravimetric analysis and muffle furnace tests prove that the decomposition temperature of cotton cellulose is drastically lowered when selected phosphorus-containing compounds are applied. He also discusses research that has been conducted to determine further management planning applications. Nonlinear programming problems associated with management problems are also discussed. The amount of suspended sediment transported by rivers to the seas each year is tabulated. The major rivers are ranked in order of tons of sediment transported per year and drainage area and water discharge data are included. The rivers are listed by, continents in subsequent tables with data on drainage area, annual sediment yields in tons, sediment production rates in tons per square mile per year, the years of sediment measurement, and the sources of data. This sample represents more than one-third of the land contributing water-borne sediment to the seas and, if representative, indicates an annual world sediment yield of 20 billion (20 × 109) tons. The data suggest that Africa, Europe, and Australia have very low sediment yields (<120 tons per square mile per year), South America's rate is low, North America's is moderate, and Asia's is high to the degree of yielding up to 80% of the sediment reaching the oceans annually. A second variant of the method of synthesis, the method of linear proportionalities, is presented and shown to be a powerful device for seeking correlation procedures for sediment transportation data. It is apparent that correlations for sediment transportation data under conditions of quasiuniform flow are of the same basic form as those for rough pipe flow, with some amplification for practical reasons. Certain established correlations are shown to be based on similarity equations from which parametric terms have been omitted, mostly without justification. A rigorous method of correlation compatible with feasible laboratory procedures is presented and illustrated in figure form using available data. It was found that the bulk of the published data was in a form unsuitable for use in a rational correlation. The increasing role of multivariate statistical techniques, a trend based on the growing availability of computers and on pressures for streamlined representation of multi-dimensional arrays of data, carries with it the responsibility for using efficient techniques to manipulate matrices and arrays. It frequently happens that all records in a multivariate system (of flow records, quality measurements, or whatever) are not equally long, and that some subsets of these records do not present a consistent pattern of correlation when the entire bivariate correlation matrix is reconstructed. If one or more estimate is such that the entire correlation matrix is rendered inconsistent, repairs must be effected before continuing the multivariate analysis. Based on a research made by a committee from the University of Washington, the study aims to provide sufficient data and orientation for biologists who are engaged in the restructuring of biology in their campuses, or to those who are curious about the applicability of restructuring to their situations. It also cites the application of administrative fusion as a new solution for biology reconstitution. Data which may aid those biologists who are restructuring their biology departments are included.
