The organisation of the “Jom Ziarah Gereja” programme under the purview of the Youth and Sports Ministry has spark an intense debate recently. Scholars, muftis, and authoritative parties express their respective views on the issue that are seen to be related to the faith of Muslims. There are among those who take a firm stand, rejecting the clearance that opens the door for Muslims to explore and delve into the activities behind the worship rooms of other religions. While the others restricted with conditional permission, for those who want to enter a church, monastery or any premises that carry out ritual activities for non-Muslims. This paper explores hadiths that are related to the issue of entering a non-Muslim house of worship. The analysis on the sources of related hadith is focusing to matan involving church institutions only, in accordance with the polemics that are floating around in society. The stance and actions of the previous companions, tabi'in and salafussoleh are also included in this study to provide an inclusive and conclusive picture of the issues highlighted. The findings of this study found that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was strict towards elements of other religions that were seen trying to exert influence on Muslims. Even so, conditional consent is given in some situations that are deemed to be essential that require Muslims to enter the church. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DATA libraries ,LIBRARY research ,IDOLATRY ,SOCIAL media ,KISSING ,DATA analysis ,BUSINESS etiquette - Abstract
The followers of the Sufi path often associate their practices through the way of tariqa, particularly in their respect for the shaykh. However, there are those among them who take their reverence for the shaykh or guru to an excessive level. One form of homage is through kissing the feet. This action has become a debated issue on social media, leading to discussions and shifts within different factions. To what extent is the act of kissing the shaykh's feet rooted in and permitted by Islam? This paper aims to identify the relevant sources regarding the issue of kissing the shaykh's feet as a form of respect. The study takes a qualitative approach using library research and data analysis. The data is descriptively analysed thematically. The study's findings indicate that there is no valid evidence supporting the act of kissing the shaykh's feet as a basis for practicing proper etiquette towards the guru. Nevertheless, some scholars permit this act with the condition that it is not done in the manner of prostration and not frequently. However, the view that rejects it is stronger based on religious evidence and local customs. All parties should exercise caution and avoid excessive expressions of actions that could lead to forms of idolatry. Simultaneously, differing viewpoints should be handled harmoniously to reduce endless disputes and harm among various factions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LITERATURE reviews ,MUSLIM scholars ,NARRATION ,DECISION making ,QUALITATIVE research - Abstract
Ibn Hazm al-Andalusiy was an eminent Muslim scholar. Nevertheless, he was not free of criticism. Among the criticisms levelled at him was that he had not determined the defects (ta‘lil) for many conflicting hadis narrations like most other hadis scholars had. Thus, this paper aims to analyse his ta‘lil methods (manhaj) for contradicting hadis narrations in his work, al-Muhalla. This qualitative research is carried out using the literature review method. The data obtained was then analysed based on inductive and deductive methods. The findings of the study show that some of Ibn Hazm's methods to determine the defects in conflicting hadis narrations are in line with most hadis scholars, such as rejecting the element of insertion (idraj) in the text of hadis and refraining (tawaqquf) from making decisions for narrations containing discrepancies (idtirab). On the other hand, some of his methods in this matter were found to be in contradiction with the views of the majority of hadis scholars, such as rejecting allegations that reliable (thiqah) narrators could make mistakes and accepting additions (ziyadah) from credible narrators. This shows that he had his own method for determining the defects in conflicting hadis narrations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUNNI Islam ,COMMUNITIES ,RELIGIOUS education ,TEACHER education ,ACCESS to information - Abstract
Issues of Islamic aqeedah is of great concern nowadays particularly among the younger generation. Their wavering belief as Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah (ASWJ) will eventually drag them into heretical beliefs and apostasy if not given due attention. Regardless of sound religious education that the youngsters received, they are still vulnerable to deviant religious teachings due to easy access of information through digital networks. Hence, there is a need to identify the level of knowledge and understanding of students at Institute of Teacher Education Raja Melewar Campus (IPGKRM) on their Sunni Islam practices. The need is in concordance with teachers being regarded as icons as well as important representatives to impart their knowledge to the community. This paper is a quantitative study using sampling approach to identify and present statistic report on level of knowledge on Sunni Islam belief among IPGKRM students. The data is collected through online distribution of questionnaire instruments. The results of the analysis found that the mean value score for level of knowledge on Sunni Islam belief among the respondents was 637.3 / 165.0 = 3.86. The finding shows a high level of Sunni Islam knowledge among the IPGKRM students. The study further shows highest score on level of knowledge related to belief on the prophets. Thus, this study implicates that IPGKRM campus students need to have strong mastery of Sunni Islam knowledge to ensure their capability in imparting knowledge on ASWJ to the community in future. KINDNESS ,INFORMATION resources ,VIRTUES ,VIRTUE ,HADITH ,WAQF ,SCHOLARS - Abstract
The Book of Arba'un Hadithan fi Ishtina 'al-Ma'ruf Bayna al-Muslimin could be considered the first book of forty hadith that was written on the virtues of doing kindness to other people. It is one of the works of Imam al-Mundhiri (w 656 H) which means that it has been written around the seventh century. It is said that the book received good acceptance from the public at that time. The Moroccan Ministry of Waqf and Islamic Affairs at this time has republished the book in 1985 justifying the merit of the book. The book contains forty hadiths that have been selected by Imam al-Mundahiri from various hadith resources. The hadiths were about doing kindness dan helping others. However, the author did not mention the sources of the hadiths selected as well as any information about them. Imam Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Sulami al-Munawi (w 803 H) then improved the book by giving information about the sources (takhrij) and brought similar hadiths to the selected hadiths to support them as well as adding some explanation to them. After him, Muhammad bin Makhluf al-Tha'alabi (w 875 H) summarized the book. However, although Imam al-Mundhiri was a scholar of the hadith as well as Imam al-Sulami and al-Tha'alabi, many statuses of the selected hadiths were found not authentic. Nevertheless, some of it was considered fabricated. Likely, Imam alSulami and al-Tha'alabi who were commenting on the book did not comment anything about the status. Thus, this paper tries to do takhrij to the hadiths of the book. It will discuss their authenticity as well as highlight the significance of the book in encouraging the activity of doing kindness to people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HISTORIOGRAPHY ,NARRATION ,BIOGRAPHY (Literary form) ,PROPHETS ,HADITH - Abstract
Examining the complex nature of Islamic historiography, Robinson adduced the discourse in a tripartite typology of historical works namely as chronography, biography, and prosopography. The formative period of historical writings in the early Islamic era has been one of the interesting topics especially the development of Sirah literature. This paper aims to explore the nature of early Islamic historical writings, analyze the emergence of its literature, and examine the basic pattern of Sirah Nabawiyyah. The present study is qualitative in nature and is one in which the researcher will employ both descriptive and source-critical approaches. The study in its findings confirm that the earliest proponents of the Prophet were principally attempting biography, and were responsible, above all, for the transmission of tradition. They apparently took any narration or anecdote about the Prophet, even, on occasions, contradictory accounts. With its specific patterns, circumlocutions, and diverse emphases, in which no one part is given distinction or importance over another, the Sirah itself contains the totality of what the compilers could gather, as scrupulously as they found possible. BORDER security ,HADITH ,SOCIAL control ,COVID-19 ,PREVENTIVE medicine - Abstract
COVID-19 has struck since 2020. The Strategic Preparation and Response Plan (SPRP) by the World Health Organization (WHO) 2021 outlines 11 indicators to battle the pandemic. In comparison to the Islamic tradition, the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in kitāb al-mardhā and kitāb al-ṭibb of Ṣaḥīḥ alBukhārī showcase the approaches and principles of modern epidemiology-based solutions. Hence, this paper attempts to analyse the disease control plan of WHO based on leading-edge epidemiology and prophetic traditions. Furthermore, it also intends to correlate pragmatic principles from the hadith and their commentaries with contemporary epidemiology. While dissecting the kitāb almardhā and kitāb al-ṭibb from al-Bukhārī’s (d. 870CE/256AH) magnum opus to establish the core principle, the researcher likewise interprets the pillars of the Strategic Preparation and Response Plan (SPRP) attempting to synchronise with the prophetic tradition. Long before the present solution, border control and preventive social measures were implemented; it stands to reason that modern epidemiology is in accord with the prophetic tradition. In short, five of the eleven pillars are directly in line with the ḥadīth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ISLAMIC finance ,HUMAN beings ,GOVERNMENT policy ,ECONOMIC sectors ,WOMEN'S roles ,PARTICIPATION - Abstract
The Government of Malaysia has issued the National Women's Policy (NWP) which was first formulated in 1989 and is still in continuation to the year 2020. Among the goals of the NWP, is the equal partnership between women and men in acquiring and controlling resources or opportunities in participation and enjoying development benefits. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance women participation in all economic sectors in developing Malaysia. This paper attempts to draw the coherence of this effort with the principles of al Siyāsah al Syar
c iyyah which calls for good governance, collective participation, and actions based on the contemporary needs of human beings. This paper also highlights a case study on the Islamic banking sector, by examining women’s appointment on the board of directors and Shariah Committee board as part of participation of women in the decision-making process in the sector. Data is taken from the annual reports of 16 Islamic banking institutions listed by Bank Negara Malaysia from the year 2012 to 2018. Whilst Malaysia's expertise in the Islamic banking sector is internationally recognized and referred to, this study reveals the minimal achievement of female participation in decision-making process throughout the selected years of study, below the required target of 30%. The outcome of this paper suggests a more participative role of women in the sector and the potentials in their intellectual and leadership capacity to contribute in the sector. This will be in line with the general spirit of Siyasah Syari’yyah for good governance, inclusivity and future sustainability development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

HADITH ,NARRATION ,ACQUISITION of data ,BIOGRAPHY (Literary form) ,QUALITATIVE research - Abstract
Efforts in preserving the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) obligate the hadith scholars to filter narrations attributed to the Prophet (PBUH), including those on his biography. These efforts have given birth to a methodology used to criticise the narrations since the days of the companions. However, applying the methodology to narrations pertaining to the biography of the Prophet (PBUH) or the sīrah has been a challenging task given the multitude of narrations that do not meet the criteria of acceptance by the muḥaddithun that infiltrate the knowledge of sīrah. Thus, this paper aims to scrutinise the methods of criticising hadiths employed by hadith scholars and the application of these methods on the works on sīrah. A qualitative study was conducted by collecting data from the major works on hadiths and sīrah. The finding demonstrates that the muḥaddithun’s critiques of the sīrah narrations are based on the critiques on sanad and matan. In applying the method, it is imperative to be murunah. This is done by placing each narration at its correct position by prioritising authentic and ḥasan hadiths, in addition to being tasahul on the permissible aspects based on the prescribed discipline. - Abstract
Among messages brought by Islam is to guide people to be able to choose between issues which are right and wrong, including halal and haram on food consumed. Food is the primary need of every human being. However, any food to be consumed should be in safe condition and does not harm the health. Based on Islamic perspective, safe food is the halal substance, how to process and slaughter, and how to get. As a predominantly Muslim country, the government of Indonesia is responsible for maintaining halal food products. This has been stated in Surah al-Maidah verse 88, al-Mu'minun verse 51, al- Baqarah verse 172, 168 and various sayings (hadis) of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Halal product is important and has become a trend and grow into the market needs. It affects and changes the symbol of quality assurance and lifestyle choices. This paper aims to show that Islam is very particular in terms of consuming good and hygienic food (Halalan Thayyiban). Among the findings of the paper are it shows that Islamic religion's instruction has never been different from any medical theories. Allah SWT has explained the virtues due to consuming the lawful (halal) and warned those who consume the unlawful (haram). To ensure that the product is halal, it is necessary for the government to be involved in enforcing the producers of preparing or making foods, managing markets, and conducting a series of halal tests, in order to get the halal certificate before selling the products. In Indonesia, there are stages to get halal certificate, among others: the submission of an application to LPPOM-MUI, auditing the documents, reviewing the location, and receiving result of the application. The Qurʾān is recited by Muslims using different variations. The differences in the recitation require a separate printing of the Qurʾān copies (mushafs) that match the recitation of each riwayah. Observation on these mushafs found that the differences occur not only in terms of reading variations but also in scripts (rasm), signs (dhabt), determination of verses (fawasil), determination of divisions (tahzib), as well assigns related to stop and continue recitation (waqf and ibtida'). Insensitivity to these differences can cause a misperception that there are errors and mistakes in the mushaf, which is the holy book of Muslims. Thus, the objectives of this paper are to identify the differences between the mushafs in terms of the sign (dhabt) and make a comparison in the matter between the mushafs. This study utilised the qualitative method using observation, analysis and comparison on the mushafs of the Qurʾān and books that are considered as main references in the science of dhabt of Qurʾān. Among the important findings of this study are differences in the aspect of dhabt, which include differences in nuqat al-i’jam involving three letters namely nun, fa and qaf. Differences also occur in nuqat al-i’rab, including the signs of dhammah, tanwin, sukun, the signs of idgham naqis, hamzah wasal and lam alif. This matter occurs due to differences in sources and practices between the schools of masyariqah and magharibah in the placement of signs in the Qurʾān. If the differences are unrecognised, they may lead to the presumption of errors in the printing of the Qurʾān. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Quran is a scripture that was revealed in the last 15 centuries. Each letter, word, verse and sura contains a perfect and beautiful pattern. Each pattern in the Quran has significant meaning to be studied. Generally, the study of the Quranic pattern has been carried out. However, there is no specific study of the word-based pattern in the Quran especially the word basar. Furthermore, existing Quranic translations have not taken into account the contextual meaning of a word in their translation. Hence, this study aims to examine the basar word pattern in surah al-Isra', analyze the meaning of the word basar and classify it based on the thematic approach. This paper is a conceptual work paper using qualitative methods and content analysis methods based on the thematic approach. The findings of the study show that there are 8 repetitions of the word basar in surah al-Isra'. The finding of this study also found that each word basar has different meanings based on the derivation and the contextual meaning of each verse. Such special understanding should be examined more broadly on the words contained in the Quran, especially the existing Quranic translations do not take this approach in their translation. This article discusses weak hadith and its requirement for the use of rule determination of Islamic law according to Shāfiʿī school. This current study objectively provides the insights for Muslims in Malaysia relating to the methods of weak hadith’s application by Shāfiʿī school. Therefore, Malay tradition could be signified on whether it is abided or not to the rule of the school. Document research method is solely used in this study by referring to the previous works, theses and related journals. The findings reported in this paper highlighted that Shāfiʿī school does not apply weak hadith in establishing the rule of Islamic law, except as a precaution to avoid makruh conducts. Thus, if the hadith is supported by way of mutābaʿāt and shawāhid, ijmak, qiyas, and the practice of the companions of the prophet, it can be used as an argument in the rule establishment. Pertaining to faḍā’il al-ʿamal issue, it has been initiated that Shāfiʿī school has not only use weak hadith in stating reward and sin, it also used in establishing the rule of istiḥbāb. Hence, weak hadith could not specify the certain guide of an ibadah. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The neglect of children by parents and guardians are increasing in Malaysia despite the existence of legal provisions. The occurrence of such incidents appears to not be properly addressed, since there have been rare reports of the perpetrators being brought to justice. This article aims to examine the meaning and difference between child neglect and abuse. This study will also study the forms of child neglect reported in newspapers and the legal provisions that regulate it in Malaysia. The data obtained are analysed and presented according to the relevant themes. The findings of this study show that the concept of neglect and abuse are different although often used interchangeably. The types of dereliction that are often suffered by children are physical, sexual, educational and mental neglect. The laws of Malaysia relating to the neglect of children are placed under section 17(1) Child Act (Amendment) 2016, and section 84(e) of the Islamic Family Law State Enactments. However, such provisions do not directly address the categories of neglect and negligence relating to children. It is hoped that this paper is able to provide awareness and understanding on the existing protection accorded to children with regard to issues on neglect and negligence in Malaysia. One of the fundamental principles of Islamic legislation is mercy pertaining to the environment as contained in al-Qur'an al-Karim. In this paper, the concept of mercy to the environment is derived from two exegetes' discourses that are Rashid Rida (d. 1935CE) and Sayyid Qutb (d. 1966). The objective of this paper is to expose the views of these two prominent figures which focus on environmental texts. The interpretations based upon al-ra'yi (rational) approach will lead to increase the understanding of current needs as well as the emphasis of auxiliary sciences in environmental conservation issues. The study is significance in determining the concept of mercy according to exegetes from outside of al-ma'thur (interpretation based on tradition or text) framework. Critically, the pursuit of environmental preservation is accomplished through the appreciation of rational exegetes' approaches. In analyzing data, this study employs the deductive method and descriptive methods in applying the concept of environmental mercy from Rashid Rida's Tafsir al-Manar and Sayyid Qutb's Fi Zilal al-Qur'an. Through the Quranic verses of environmental preservation, this study demonstrates that the notion of environmental preservation is emphasized by Rashid Reda and Sayyid Qutb with the obligation of all parties to execute. Although the period and background of exegetes are different, the similarity of their global interpretations suggest more mechanism are made for the environmental awareness. The most important conclusion is the concept of mercy contained in the Quranic verses can be interpreted and appreciated with the struggle of the environmental movement. This understanding of al-ra'yi interpretation give insight into Muslim scholars' exposition and demonstrate that their intellectual capacity is far-reaching and develops a conclusive concept for universal humanity. - Abstract
Al-Ijazah or permission (authorization, license) is a mechanism that transcends the continuity of the transmission of the scripture of the turath of the hadith in order to persist between generation and generation until the present age (suggestion: Al-Ijazah means “permission, license, or authorization” which originally served as written records of the direct audition of a text on the part of the recipient from the transmitting authority. In the field of hadith studies, the formal transmission of a report from one authority to the next in the chain of transmission (isnad), authorized by ijazah). In Malaysia, the preservation of the sanad is practised by Islamic scholars throughout every century including Muhammad Salih bin Uthman Jalal al-Din al-Malayuwi al- Makki. This paper aims to analyze the chain of transmission of turath hadiths carried by Muhammad Salih to the Malaysian scholars through his al-thabat work entitled Kitab al- Mawahib al-Ilahiyyah fi al-Asanid al-'Aliyyah. The research data were collected through content analysis and have been analyzed descriptively. The finding shows that Muhammad Salih possesses the permissions of 47 teachers which he qualified to be labeled as a Malaysian Musnid. This include the ijaza of al-Muwatta', al-kutub al-sittah, al-Awa’il al-Sunbuliyyah and the hadith of al-rahmah al-musalsal al-awwaliyyah. The leading teacher of this scholar is Syeikh Hassan Masysyat. There are four intellectual reflections on the application of the ijaza namely the preservation of the chain of transmission, the protection of the narrators, the example of the tradition of scholars and the importance of acquiring the sanad. - Abstract
The nomenclature of a subject matter represents the inherent characteristics and attributes of an item. In the context of the food sector, there exists a strong correlation between the name and commercial impact of a particular product. The choice of the name of a product names is significant for purposes of branding and marketing. Nevertheless, some parties combine illegal and permissible elements in the process of choosing product names, such as “hotdog”, “beer”, and others. The combination of brand names for halal products has become a subject of contention among Muslim scholars and customers, due to the ambiguity surrounding their halal status. This study examines the legal and Islamic implications of associating a halal product with a name that imputes prohibited elements from the perspective of the evidences found in al-Quran and hadith and the country's halal regulatory framework and the Shariah as a whole. Library research and content analysis are employed as methodologies to obtain relevant information on the subject matter of this research. The results of this study indicate that the definition of halal, as outlined in the halal legislation of this country is limited and is only restricted to food ingredients, products and services. Further, there exists a loophole in the powers conferred upon the relevant agencies to ascertain the suitability of the nomenclature to be in accordance with the principles of the Shariah, thereby ensuring adherence to the concept of halalan tayyiban in its entirety for each halal product. HADITH ,THEMATIC analysis ,QUALITATIVE research ,ACADEMIC discourse ,DEFINITIONS ,LECTURES & lecturing - Abstract
The hadith mawdu’i (thematic hadith) terminology is widely used in contemporary hadith discourse. However, there are confusions in understanding its true concept since several other terms are associated with it namely dirasah al-mawdhu‘iyyah min al-hadith (thematic analysis based on hadith) and sharh al-mawdhu‘i li al-hadith (thematic explanation based on hadith). As such, the purpose of this paper is to study difference opinions amongst the contemporary hadith scholars in comprehending the concept of thematic hadith that gives rise to various definition and concepts. Literature review method based on qualitative research through content analysis design were fully engaged in the data collection as well as data analysis processes. All the definitions and concept of thematic hadith presented by the contemporary hadith scholars in their academic writings were gathered and analyzed to produce a comprehensive depiction. Based on the existing definitions, the findings of this study illustrate that the present-day thematic hadith researchers’ conceptions are split into two camps. The first is the group that deduces thematic hadith as a study upon collection of hadith or upon one particular hadith with a specific theme while the second group infers thematic hadith as thematic lectures. The findings also demonstrate that the difference in understanding thematic hadith between the two groups are from the guidelines and steps in conducting a research. This is the reason why dirasah al-mawdhu‘iyyah min al-hadith is focused on the technical aspect of the initial hadith research such as takhrij (retrieval of hadith) or identifying mukhtalif (contradictions) and so on. While sharh al-mawdhu‘i li al-hadith concentrates on constructive research in depicting a clear picture of the themes that contained in the hadith. Accordingly, the integration between dirasah al-mawdhu‘iyyah min alhadith and sharh al-mawdhu‘i li al-hadith would produce a holistic research on thematic hadith. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ECONOMIC expansion ,BUILDING design & construction ,ISLAMIC law ,LAND use ,MOSQUES ,COMMERCIAL drivers' licenses - Abstract
Land and space are important assets that are required for economic development, the well-being of a society and the stability of a country. The existence of land allows for various mega projects to be planned and implemented, which in turn generate lucrative income that will contribute to the revenue of a country. Further, land and space are needed for the construction and improvement of the country's key infrastructure, in order to maintain its competitiveness at both regional and international levels. Conversely, limited sources of land in a country will have a negative impact on the administration of state affairs and economic expansion. Singapore is one such manifestation; its limited land area has led the government to introduce a land-saving policy, whereby projects with high returns are awarded by tearing down old buildings that either have or do not have any historical value. This policy also requires buildings that have no commercial value to be reduced in space or combined with other venues such as other places of worship. There is also a suggestion to unite different places of worship in a multi-storey building. Islamic law recognizes the importance of land in human life and has prescribed legal principles to effectively regulate the use of land, such as ihsan and waqf. This paper aims to examine the viability of integrating mosques with other places of worship. It employs the inductive and deductive methods in collecting and analysing the views of the fuqaha. The findings of this study, among others, show that it is permissible to place a mosque in a multi-storey building, subject to certain conditions being put in place. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ISLAMIC renewal ,LAW reform ,ISLAMIC law ,PEACE ,FAITH - Abstract
The Islamic community is presently confronted by several concerns pertaining to matters of faith and beliefs. The Malaysian government is increasingly concerned about various issues, including deviant teachings, apostasy, demands for human rights from specific groups and religious extremism. These can potentially lead towards the disruption of national security and the sanctity of the Islamic religion. As a result, the government is taking measures to curb and contain the development of these issues. This article investigates three distinct categories of behaviours that present substantial risks to the faith of the Muslim community. These include deviations in beliefs and ideas, issues on human rights, and the existence of extremist or radical groups that pose a threat to peace in Malaysia. Data for this study were obtained through library research and the application of content analysis involving thematic examination of issues relevant to subject matter. The study demonstrates that the current development of Islamic legislation in Malaysia is a continuous process of change aimed at upholding national security and unity through the framework of Islamic law. Moreover, there are multiple risks both domestically and internationally, encompassing concerns pertaining to the faith and beliefs of the Muslim community in Malaysia. These factors could potentially to create ambiguity and jeopardise the overall security and stability of society, particularly within the Muslim community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
