The Alba Iulia Battyaneum Library, subsidiary of the National Library of Romania, was visited in the summer of 2014 by the authors with the intent to explore the commentaries on Peter Lombard's Sentences which are preserved in the renowned collection of this library. With the help of research tools currently available, the authors verified 21 manuscripts and identified 20 commentaries, and also 4 copies of the Sentences' text. Overall, the authors discovered five yet unmentioned copies of commentaries. The article presents the newly ascertained details on 17 manuscripts, in relation with previously known data. The National Center for Children’s Literature (CNLJ) keeps an important collection of the Japanese publisher Fukuinkan shoten, which celebrates in 2022 its 70 years anniversary. This collection was initially acquired from la Joie par les livres and the publisher himself regularly sends some of its collections to the National Library of France. Often compared to L’école des loisirs in France, Fukuinkan shoten is a major publisher in Japan that contributed greatly to the development of children’s literature in the archipelago but also to the recognition of Japanese children’s literature in the world. This article aims to present the publisher and some collections available at the National Library of France and to define some directions for further research.

Introduction: Mobile devices and mobile applications facilitate access to clinical evidence at the point-of-care. Medical libraries play an important role in medical trainees' education, by subscribing to quality resources and by providing help and guidance on what apps to use. This study’s goal was to explore medical trainees' mobile applications use in the clinical setting to help inform collection development’s decisions and to provide insight on educational outreach. Perceived barriers and benefits of medical app use by clinical trainees was also explored. Methods: A brief online survey (English and French) was sent to all University of Ottawa clerkship medical students and residents. The questionnaire consisted of multiple choices, Likert-scale, and open-ended questions. Results: 208 English and 9 French responses were received. UpToDate was the most frequently used app, followed by MedCalc, Spectrum (CHEO) and Medscape. Respondents used medical apps mostly before and after meeting with patients and rarely while interacting with patients. Main benefits identified of medical app use were helping with decision-making, quick access to trustworthy clinical information, help with diagnosis and treatment options (e.g. medication dosage, drug interaction). Main barriers identified were costs, appearing unprofessional, lack of Canadian content and spotty hospital WiFi. Conclusion: Libraries' involvement in providing access to trustworthy clinical resources to medical trainees is important to help shape trainees' development as medical professionals. Outreach to learners in the clinical setting is crucial to educate on what apps are available to them through the library collection.

An ancient trade guild was given the charter of Academy of painters, sculptors and architects of Turin in 1678. Academicians, men and women, built the first art collection devoted to teaching. In 1778 the Academy was refounded and a French painter taught by the Roman school, Laurent Pécheux (1729-1821), was appointed director. During the Napoleonic period, the Turin Academy was under the direction of the Paris Academy. In 1833, King Charles Albert of Sardinia chose the definitive location of the Academy, where it still remains today. The inventories of 1839, 1846 and 1856 give evidence of the expansion of the plaster models collection, reaching 850 items. The Library has been enriched by publications and manuscripts available for teaching. After 1849, students were allowed to choose among lectures by new competing teachers. An analytical description of the Academy from 1851 lists animal models, skeletons, architectural models, decoration details casts, drawings and engravings of art works, art books collections, watercolors by Giuseppe Pietro Bagetti, sixty preliminary cartoons for Renaissance pictures (placed in a hall especially equipped and illuminated in 2019), two hundred paintings from the Archbishop Mossi di Morano collection. These two groups of art works are shown in the twelve rooms of the present picture-gallery. After the last war bombings, the palace was restored, the picture-gallery re-organized and re-opened, the gypsothèque set up again. Historical Library and Archives were provided with new catalogues and inventories. The drawings and engravings cabinet is accessible for students as well as the photos collections, the artists videos, and the theatre and ballet documentation and capture. Yet, difficulties tend to upset the balance between conservation, frequent use for teaching and enjoyment for general audience.

The article provides information on the archival collections of the établissement de communication et de production audiovisuelle de la défense (ECPAD), the organization in charge of the archives of the French army. The different collections available in the multimedia library of the ECPAD are described, including the archives about World War I, World War II and the Algerian war. The article also provides practical information concerning the access of the public to these resources, the schedule of the multimedia library, and the events organized by it.

Gifts and donations form an integral part of an academic library’s existence, whether monetary or physical items. While monetary gifts are greatly valued, gift-in-kind donations of physical items can also contribute rare or unique items to collections. However, gift-in-kind donations also bring many challenges, as processing and evaluating physical materials can be time-consuming and labour-intensive; moreover, these materials may occupy significant amounts of space and ultimately may or may not add value to the library collection. Providing clear, publicly available gift and donation information can mitigate some of these challenges and help to set expectations for donors by giving a clear overview of the evaluation process and letting them know which types of material are of interest. The author reviewed donation-related webpages of twenty-one Canadian academic libraries to determine commonalities regarding library donation webpages. This analysis can provide practical assistance to librarians who are creating or revising gift-in-kind policies and procedures in Canadian academic libraries. Bien que les dons monétaires soient très appréciés, les dons matériels peuvent aussi contribuer à des collections d'articles rares ou uniques. Toutefois, les dons en nature posent également de nombreux défis, car le traitement et l'évaluation des documents physiques peuvent prendre beaucoup de temps et exiger beaucoup de travail; en outre, ces documents peuvent prendre beaucoup d'espace et, en bout de ligne, ils peuvent ou non ajouter de la valeur à la collection de la bibliothèque. Il importe alors de fournir au public des informations claires sur les dons afin de palier certains de ces défis et d'établir des attentes pour les donateurs en leur présentant un survol clair du processus d'évaluation et en leur laissant savoir quels types de matériel sont d'intérêt. L'auteure a recensé les pages Web consacrées aux dons de vingt-et-une bibliothèques universitaires canadiennes afin d'y déceler les points communs. The article focuses on the network of libraries belonging to the French company Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP), the major transit operator responsible for public transportation in Paris and its surroundings. The three most important media libraries of this network are presented in this article, as well as their schedule and the size of their book and DVD collections. The author lists all the services available in these libraries.

The article focuses on the collections of video recordings available at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF), the National library of France, whose origin is the registration of copyright, extended to videos since 1975. According to the article these collections cover all the videos that have been shown to an audience, whether it was for commercial or non-commercial purposes, and it only excludes personal or family videos. The author points out that the BNF is also archiving since 2006 videos circulating on the Internet thanks to the same process.

Is it possible to recover the history of a library from these catalogues? To what extent the evolution of a system of classification of books from a reading institution expresses the multiple developments of its collections, its curators, its consultation policies, and the relationships of the library with its public as well? The problem arises in accordance with the removal of the catalogues from the first public library in São Paulo. Former library of the convent of St. Francis of Assisi, the institution undergoes the revolutions of time before being transformed into a public library meant to “serve to the enlightenment of peoples”, in 1825. From then on, one can notice the development of the collection of books and its importance in the city. Alongside this process, the correspondence of the curators and several handwritten lists of books underline the different procedures used to classify the collection and make it available to its readership. There has been some discussion of late, in academic library circles, surrounding the relative merits of Microlog (Micromedia-ProQuest) and the Canadian Public Policy Collection (CPPC – Gibson Library Connections). Microlog is a long-standing resource, providing fiche copies of Canadian government documents (Federal, Provincial, and Municipal), with over 200,000 titles. Microlog MARC records are available for loading into library catalogues. CPPC is an online collection of over 22,000 Think Tank and policy institute reports, along with a selection of Federal and Provincial government documents. This paper provides a comparative analysis of Microlog and CPPC to help clarify their roles in academic library collections. This analysis considers measures of growth, coverage, and content, along with additional features associated with each of these collections. The analysis concludes that these collections are largely distinct, and tend to be more complementary than competitive.

Libraries are increasingly using quantitative and qualitative research methods to assess the quality of their resources and services. This can include collecting survey data and conducting focus groups and patron interviews. While these forms of data collection are considered standard assessment tools, libraries already have a rich collection of data available to them through their suggestion boxes – one of the most longstanding methods to determine how well your library is doing. A survey of Canadian academic libraries was conducted to gain some insight into the prevalence of the suggestion box, how libraries were managing them in their day to day operations, and whether the collected data was mined for any decision-making purposes. The authors provide recommendations on how libraries can analyze their suggestion box data to improve services and engage more effectively with their users.

The University of Waterloo Map Library is a cartographic and GIS academic resource centre to academics, community organizations and interested members of the local community. With a collection of over 100,000 maps, 49,000 air photos and being the campus’ hub for geospatial data, the library is frequented by many user groups and individuals – serving a variety of interests and purposes. Until most recently, many of these users were able to only access the collection in person, during library hours. Now, one of the library’s most popular paper collection used by the local community, the historical aerial photographs, have become available online for users to view and download from their home and business computers. The Map Library’s air photo collection includes stereoscopic images of the Region of Waterloo taken as early as 1930 to as recent as 1995. The air photos are widely used by students, business contractors, history buffs and home owners who like to study the air photos for land cover, property information, feature identification and changes in these over time. Due to several access limitations, the Map Library wanted to provide the community with easier access, available 24/7 and remotely from the internet. The Map Library scanned, digitized, and georeferenced photos from the 1930s and 1940s and uploaded them to a website that provides easy access for viewing and downloading the imagery. Using GIS technology, the air photos were digitized with geographical coordinate tags for use in GIS software programs including online mapping applications such as Google Earth (GE). By creating and offering downloadable georeferenced images compatible with popular mapping tools, the air photos have gained significant popularity and utilization by not only regular library users but by community groups, organizations and corporations who have never used library resources in the past. The integration of modern technology with traditional paper mapping has proven to be both methods of preservation and increased varying utilization.

This article provides information on the central medical library in Bulgaria at the Medical University of Sofia. It is reported that the library's collections are available to students, doctors, and all faculty of the university. In 2006, the author notes, the institution received nearly 27,000 users and there were 3,000 new subscribers to the library's services. Information on the library's holdings are provided as well as the quality of its staff members.
