Uric acid (UA) to albumin ratio (UAR) is an emerging marker to predict coronary artery disease (CAD)-related events. There is limited data on the relationship between UAR and the severity of the disease in chronic CAD patients. We aimed to evaluate UAR as an indicator for CAD severity using the Syntax score (SS). We retrospectively enrolled 558 patients with stable angina pectoris and underwent coronary angiography (CAG). Patients were divided into 2 groups, according to CAD severity: low SS (≤22) and intermediate-high SS (>22) groups. UA levels were higher and albumin levels were lower in the intermediate-high SS score group (P <.001). UAR levels were significantly higher in the intermediate-high SS group (P <.001). Also, there was a significant correlation between UAR levels and SS (r =.55, 95% confidence interval (CI):.49–.60, P <.001). In multivariable analysis, UAR >1.34 (Odds ratio, 3.8 [2.3–6.2]; P <.001) was an independent predictor of intermediate-high SS while albumin and UA levels were not. Acute stent thrombosis (AST) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and C-reactive protein (CRP) to albumin ratio (CAR) in predicting AST and high SYNTAX score in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The criteria of the Academic Research Consortium were used to determine definite stent thrombosis. A total of 2077 consecutive patients with ACS undergoing PCI were retrospectively enrolled. Platelet, white blood cell and neutrophil counts, as well as SII, CRP, CAR, and peak cardiac troponin I (cTnI) values were significantly higher, whereas the lymphocyte count and albumin values were significantly lower in the AST (+) group compared with the AST (−) group (P <.05). SYNTAX score showed significant positive correlations with SII (r =.429, P <.001) and CRP (r =.402, P <.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that SII and CAR, as well as age, diabetes mellitus, stent length, and peak cTnI are independent predictors of AST and high SYNTAX score. Evidence suggests that psoriasis together with other cardiovascular (CV) risk factors is associated with increased vascular morbidity, but it is not clear whether psoriasis is an independent risk factor. Consecutive patients (n = 33; 35.6 ± 5.7 years; 13 females) with mild psoriasis (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index <10) without comorbidities and 33 healthy participants (36.3 ± 5.9 years; 15 females) were enrolled. Both groups underwent echocardiography, speckle tracking (2-dimensional strain echocardiography [2D-SE]), and pulse wave velocity (PWV) testing. Clinical and conventional echocardiographic characteristics were comparable between both groups. Global longitudinal strain (GLS) was significantly lower (P = .002) in the psoriasis group (22.39%±2.28%) than in controls (24.15%±2.17%). The PWV was significantly lower (P = .004) in controls (8.06±1.68 m/s) than in the psoriasis group (9.23±1.53 m/s). Significant correlations between GLS and disease duration (r=-.66, P < .0001) and between GLS and patient age at diagnosis (r = .48, P = .0043) were found. We investigated the association between platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and clinical outcomes (including all-cause mortality, recurrent myocardial infarction, heart failure, serious cardiac arrhythmias and ischemic stroke) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Based on PLR quartiles, 5886 patients with STEMI were categorized into 4 groups: <98.8 (n = 1470), 98.8 to 125.9 (n = 1474), 126.0 to 163.3 (n = 1478), >163.3 (n = 1464), respectively. We used Cox proportional hazards models to examine the relation between PLR and clinical outcomes. Mean duration of follow-up was 81.6 months, and 948 patients (16.1%) died during follow-up. The lowest mortality occurred in the lowest PLR quartile group (P = 0.006), with an adjusted hazard ratio of 1.18 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04-1.55), 1.31 (95% CI, 1.18-1.64), and 1.59 (95% CI, 1.33-1.94) in patients with PLR of 98.8 to 125.9, 126.0 to 163.3, >163.3, respectively. Higher levels of PLR were also associated with recurrent myocardial infarction (Ptrend = .023), heart failure (Ptrend = .018), and ischemic stroke (Ptrend = .043). Endothelial dysfunction is involved in the process of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), that is, the endothelial cell–specific molecule 1 (ESM-1; endocan) is a novel endothelial dysfunction marker. However, the relationship between patients with AMI and serum ESM-1 levels is not very clear. Patients with AMI (n = 216) and a control group (n = 60) without AMI were included in the study. High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) was measured, and the severity of AMI was assessed by a modified Gensini stenosis scoring system. Serum ESM-1 levels were significantly higher in the AMI group (P < .05). High-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels were also significantly higher in the AMI group (P < .05). In patients with AMI, serum ESM-1 levels were not significantly correlated with hsCRP levels. There was no significant correlation between serum ESM-1 level and Gensini score. We assessed the prognostic role of serum endocan level in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and compared the results with a normal coronary angiography group. A total of 133 patients were included in the study (88 patients with STEMI and 45 patients with normal coronary arteries). The SYNTAX score was determined based on the baseline coronary angiogram. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that endocan independently correlated with the presence of STEMI. Moreover, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), peak troponin I, and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were found to be independently associated with STEMI. Endocan level correlated significantly with hsCRP and SYNTAX score. We analyzed the discriminatory capability of endocan level for the presence of STEMI using a receiver–operating characteristics curve. A cutoff endocan level of 1.7 (ng/mL) predicted the presence of STEMI with a sensitivity of 76.1% and specificity of 73.6%. Endothelial cell-specific molecule 1 (ESM-1; endocan) is expressed by endothelial cells, and it can be overexpressed in diabetic patients. However, little is known concerning diabetic patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Therefore, we assessed serum ESM-1 level in patients having type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) STEMI; 72 patients with DM (38 with and 34 without vascular disease) and 33 individuals as a control group were included. There was a significant difference in serum ESM-1 level between the T2DM group and the control group (P = .03). There was also a significant difference in serum ESM-1 level between the T2DM with STEMI group and newly diagnosed T2DM group without vascular disease (P = .01). In patients with T2DM, serum ESM-1 levels correlated positively with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels and the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (r = .321, P = .006 and r = .320, P = .006). Although coronary revascularization procedures are widely performed in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), angina is often reported, even after such procedures. This study evaluated the antianginal efficacy and effect of ivabradine treatment on quality of life (QOL) in patients with CAD and history of coronary revascularization. This is a post hoc analysis (926 post-revascularization patients) of a prospective, noninterventional study, which included 2403 patients with CAD and stable angina. The data were recorded at baseline, at 1 month and 4 months after inclusion. After ivabradine administration, mean number of anginal events decreased from 2.2 ± 2.3 (median: 2.0, minimum: 0.0, maximum: 21.0, range: 21.0) to 0.3 ± 0.6 (median: 0.0, minimum: 0.0, maximum: 7.0, range: 7.0) times/week (P < .001), while nitroglycerin consumption decreased from 1.5 ± 2.2 (median: 1.0, minimum: 0.0, maximum: 20.0, range: 20.0) to 0.1 ± 0.4 times/week (median: 0.0, minimum: 0.0, maximum: 5.0, range: 5.0; P < .001). Quality of life improved at study completion compared to baseline (P < .001). Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and impaired glucose intolerance (IGT) are predictors of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We tested the hypothesis that epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and carotid intima–media thickness (cIMT), as markers of early atherosclerosis, are increased in patients with prediabetes. We prospectively enrolled 246 patients (162 with prediabetes and 84 controls). Prediabetes was defined according to American Diabetes Association criteria, and patients were divided into 3 groups: group 1—IFG, group 2—IGT, and group 3—IFG + IGT. Both cIMT and EFT were significantly greater in patients with prediabetes compared with controls (0.81 ± 0.20 mm vs 0.68 ± 0.16 mm, P < .001 and 7.0 ± 2.0 mm vs 5.6 ± 1.6 mm, P < .001, respectively). This difference was mainly attributed to patients with IGT. Age, waist circumference, and 2-hour glucose independently predicted cIMT, while 2-hour glucose was the only independent predictor of EFT in multivariate analysis among other relevant parameters for cIMT and EFT. The cIMT and EFT (measured noninvasively) could be useful indicators of CVD risk in these patients. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with dyslipidemia and increased cardiovascular risk. We assessed the effects of apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particle size and lipid subclasses (separated by gradient gel electrophoresis) in patients with OSA. Stable patients (n = 181) prospectively recruited underwent full polysomnography. Both LDL particle size and LDL I proportion were reduced from ∊3∊3 homozygotes to ∊2 carriers and to ∊4 carriers (analysis of variance: P = .024; P = .040, respectively); carriers of the ∊4 allele of the APOE genotype had significantly lower LDL particle size and LDL I proportion compared to ∊3∊3 homozygotes (P < .05 for both comparisons). Insulin resistance increased from patients with no OSA to those with mild–moderate and to those with severe OSA (P < .001). In multivariate analysis, LDL size was independently predicted by APOE genotype, male gender, and the presence of metabolic syndrome (MetS; P = .001, P = .020, P = .027, respectively). The HDL particle size was not affected by APOE genotype. Our data demonstrate that both the ∊4 APOE genotype and MetS are independently related to smaller LDL size in patients with OSA. Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD). The underlying pathophysiology of CAE is not fully understood. α1-antitrypsin (A1AT) plays a role in the tissue protease system, and AAT-1 deficiency (A1ATD) has been shown to be related to CAD. We compared A1AT serum levels in patients with and without CAE to determine the association between A1AT levels and the extent of ectasia using the Markis score. We included 50 patients (38 males) with isolated CAE and 46 patients (28 males) with normal coronary arteries after coronary angiography. The levels of A1AT were measured by nephelometry. The median A1AT levels were lower in patients with isolated CAE than in the control group (1.27 ng/mL [range: 1.07-1.37 ng/mL] vs 1.43 ng/mL [range: 1.27-1.59 ng/mL]; P < .001). According to the Markis classification, the extent of CAE was not correlated with A1AT levels (P = .41). Our results demonstrate an inverse relationship between serum A1AT levels and CAE. α1-antitrypsin is fundamental for the stability and integrity of the arterial wall. Recent data suggest that clopidogrel-mediated platelet inhibition is age dependent. However, so far the effect of age on adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-inducible platelet reactivity has only been investigated by test systems measuring surrogate markers of platelet aggregation. We therefore sought to study the impact of age on platelet inhibition by clopidogrel by whole-blood flow cytometry. Platelet surface P-selectin expression, activated glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa, and monocyte–platelet aggregate (MPA) formation were determined by flow cytometry in 302 patients with dual antiplatelet therapy after successful angioplasty and stenting. Patient age was independently associated with ADP-inducible P-selectin expression, GPIIb/IIIa, and MPA formation (all P < .05). Moreover, platelet surface expressions of P-selectin and activated GPIIb/IIIa were significantly higher in patients ≥75 years compared with younger patients (both P ≤ .004). Likewise, MPA formation was significantly more pronounced in patients ≥75 years (P = .02). Finally, high P-selectin and high GPIIb/IIIa were significantly more frequent in patients ≥75 years compared with younger patients (both P < .001). Further, high MPA ADP occurred more frequently in patients ≥75 years compared to younger patients (P < .05). In conclusion, the antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel decreases with patient age. Copeptin is a sensitive and more stable surrogate marker for arginine vasopressin. In this study, we evaluated copeptin levels in carotid endarterectomy (CEA) patients, perioperatively, to determine whether copeptin levels can be related to carotid artery cross clamping (CC) time and to postoperative neurological outcomes. Copeptin, interleukin 6, C-reactive protein, cortisol, and brain natriuretic peptide were measured preoperatively (T1) and 3 hours postoperatively (T3) as well as intraoperatively (T2). We recruited 77 patients. Values of copeptin rose gradually over the observed times: T1 = 7.9 (6.4-9.6), T2 = 12.6 (9.3-16.8), and T3 = 72.3 (49.1-111.2) pmol/L. There was a significant difference for repeated measurement (P = .000, P = .000, and P = .000). Duration of carotid artery CC during CEA does not affect postoperative copeptin level (CC ≤ 13 minutes: 106.8 ± 93.6 pmol/L, CC > 13 minutes: 96.7 ± 89.1 pmol/L; P = .634). Preoperative copeptin level was significantly higher in patients with ulcerated plaque morphology. Activation of the stress axis in patients undergoing CEA results in copeptin elevation. Endothelial cell-specific molecule-1 (endocan) is an immunoinflammatory marker linked to endothelial activation and dysfunction. We investigated the relationship between obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD), microvascular angina (MVA), and plasma levels of endocan. We included 53 healthy individuals as controls, 40 MVA patients, and 120 patients with obstructive CAD. The severity of CAD was assessed by the Gensini and SYNergy between percutaneous coronary intervention with TAXUS and Cardiac Surgery (SYNTAX) scores. Endocan levels were 382.7 (313.8-470.2) pg/mL in patients with obstructive CAD; 324.3 (277.1-460.7) pg/mL in MVA group, and 268.0 (226.4-336.5) pg/mL (P < .001) in controls. Endocan levels in obstructive CAD and MVA groups were similar but both were significantly higher than for the control group (P < .001 and P = .002, respectively). In subgroup analysis, similar to the hypertensive subgroup results, endocan was still an independent predictor of presence of obstructive CAD in normotensives (odds ratio = 1.005, 95% confidence interval = 1.001-1.010, P = .024). There was also an independent positive correlation between endocan levels and SYNTAX score both in the hypertensives (β = 0.414, t = 3.21, P = .002) and in the normotensives (β = .301, t = 2.23, P = .031). Endothelial cell–specific molecule 1 ([ESM-1], endocan) is a new biomarker of endothelial dysfunction, which may be involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and stress hyperglycemia in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Therefore, we investigated serum ESM-1 levels in patients with stress hyperglycemia having STEMI; 105 patients with STEMI and 33 individuals as a control group were included in the study. The patients were followed up for 3 months and major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) were recorded. Serum ESM-1 level was significantly higher in patients with stress hyperglycemia patients having STEMI (P < .05). In these patients, serum ESM-1 levels correlated positively with glucose levels (r = .21, P < .05). Multiple factor logistic regression analysis showed that serum ESM-1 levels >1.01 ng/mL (odds ratio 3.01, 95% confidence interval 1.05-8.64, P < .05) were an independent predictor of MACEs. Our findings suggest that ESM-1 is a novel biomarker overexpressed in patients with stress hyperglycemia having STEMI, admission glucose levels are associated with ESM-1 levels, and ESM-1 is an independent predictor of MACEs. Chronic kidney disease is a common comorbidity in patients with peripheral artery disease. We investigated the safety and efficacy of carbon dioxide (CO2) as supplemental contrast agent to decrease contrast volume during fluoroscopy-guided peripheral vascular procedures in routine angiological practice. We analyzed 191 consecutive interventions of the lower extremity in claudicants and critical limb ischemia (CLI) that were performed with iodinated contrast media (ICM) alone (n = 154) or with the aided or exclusive use of CO2 (n = 37). The technical success rate, total irradiation, and intervention time were not significantly different between ICM and CO2. No severe procedure-related complications occurred. The contrast volume was lower in CO2 than in ICM. Although kidney function, creatinine, and estimated glomerular filtration rate was lower in CO2 at baseline, the incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy was lower in CO2 compared to ICM. These data support CO2 as an alternative supplemental contrast agent that can be applied safely and efficiently to lower contrast volume during peripheral vascular interventions preventing kidney dysfunction even in patients with disease of the popliteal artery and below the knee and CLI. Connective tissue diseases, like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), are associated with early and accelerated atherosclerosis. Recently, the concept of “early vascular aging” (EVA) has been more widely accepted. Aortic stiffness is one of the important markers of EVA. We evaluated EVA and subclinical atherosclerosis, by measuring aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV) and carotid intima–media thickness (cIMT), in 50 normotensive patients with SLE (mean age: 39 ± 12 years). We compared these participants with 50 age- and sex-matched patients with essential hypertension (EH) and 20 healthy controls. Each participant underwent 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), aPWV, and cIMT measurements. Clinic and 24-hour ABPM values were significantly lower in patients with SLE and controls when compared with the participants having EH (all P < .0001), but aPWV and cIMT were significantly lower in the control group when compared with patients having SLE and EH (all P < .001). Overall, patients with SLE and EH had similar cIMT and aPWV values (P = .31 and P = .47, respectively). Our results suggest that SLE has a similar deleterious impact on EVA as EH. This is the first study to investigate the vasculoangiogenic effects of cilostazol on endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) in patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This double-blind, placebo-controlled study included 71 patients (37 received 200 mg/d cilostazol and 34 received placebo for 12 weeks). Use of cilostazol, but not placebo, significantly increased circulating EPC (kinase insert domain receptor+CD34+) counts (percentage changes: 149.0% [67.9%-497.8%] vs 71.9% [−31.8% to 236.5%], P = .024) and improved triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (P = .002 and P = .003, respectively). Plasma levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A165 and FMD significantly increased (72.5% [32.9%-120.4%] vs −5.8% [−46.0% to 57.6%], P = .001; 232.8% ± 83.1% vs −46.9% ± 21.5%, P = .003, respectively) in cilostazol-treated patients. Changes in the plasma triglyceride levels significantly inversely correlated with the changes in the VEGF-A165 levels and FMD. Cilostazol significantly enhanced the mobilization of EPCs and improved endothelium-dependent function by modifying some metabolic and angiogenic markers in patients at high risk of CVD. This study was designed to investigate the combined effects of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) on 10-year coronary heart disease (CHD) risk calculated using the Framingham risk score. The heavy metal data set of the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey IV and V (2008-2010) was analyzed. The 10-year CHD risk was significantly associated with the log-transformed blood Cd and Pb levels in Korean men. For the highest quartile of Cd and Pb, the odds ratio (OR) of the intermediate risk and beyond for CHD (10-year risk ≥10%) compared to the lowest quartile was 6.870 (Cd, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.58-10.30) and 3.127 (Pb, 95% CI: 2.09-4.69) after adjusting for confounders, respectively. The adjusted OR of the intermediate risk and beyond for CHD (10-year risk ≥10%) in the fourth quartile of both Cd and Pb was 12.2 (95% CI: 8.0-18.5) compared to the reference group (first and second quartiles of Cd and Pb). Severe peripheral artery disease requires revascularization to relieve life-limiting ischemic symptoms. Postrevascularization in-stent restenosis continues to be a problem after femoropopliteal procedures. Our aim was to evaluate the use of cilostazol to prevent in-stent restenosis among patients with lower extremity arterial stenting. We performed a MEDLINE and EMBASE search and reviewed the abstracts and manuscripts following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. The primary efficacy outcome was patency rate after stenting. The odds ratio estimates were pooled using the Mantel–Haenszel random-effects method. We identified 524 studies, and 20 articles were fully abstracted and 4 were included in the meta-analysis. The total number of patients included was 2434. Patients in the cilostazol group had better primary patency rates after endovascular stenting than those not taking cilostazol (odds ratio: 0.55; 95% confidence interval: 0.43-0.71). Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are associated with increased mortality rates. We assessed long-term outcomes of patients with PAD and CKD. Patients with PAD undergoing invasive angiography and/or endovascular revascularization between 2005 and 2010 were retrospectively classified into 5 CKD stages. A follow-up was performed and 572 patients were included, 116 patients (20%) had normal renal function, 245 were in CKD stage 2 (43%), 156 in CKD stage 3 (27%), and 55 in CKD stages 4 + 5 (10%). Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and anemia were more frequent in higher CKD stages (P < .03). During follow-up (mean 1135 days; 95% confidence interval 1159-1259), cumulative mortality was 21% and increased with advanced CKD stages (9%, 16%, 29%, and 47%, respectively, P < .001). In multivariate Cox regression models, higher CKD stages were significantly associated with poor survival. Medication adherence for secondary prevention was significantly lower than recommended but irrespective of CKD stages. Kidney function is an independent predictor of worse long-term survival in patients with PAD. Patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) are at increased risk of premature cardiovascular disease. We compared factors associated with the presence of carotid plaques and carotid intima–media thickness (cIMT), markers of subclinical atherosclerosis, in 241 patients with FH (98, 40.7% men; mean age 41 ± 18.4 years). Patients with FH having carotid plaques (36.5%) had mean age, apolipoprotein (apo) B, glucose, apoA1, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic BP, waist/hip ratio (WHR), and body mass index higher than patients without plaques. Logistic regression revealed that apoB (odds ratio [OR] per 1 unit change 1.03, P = .005), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C; OR per 1 standard deviation [SD] change 0.59, P = .015), and non-HDL-C (OR per 1SD change 1.53, P = .04) were significantly associated with the presence of plaques. The cIMT correlated with obesity parameters, BP, apoB, glucose, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, creatinine, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, and alanine transaminase (P < .001). Regression analysis revealed that cIMT was significantly associated with apoB, SBP, and WHR. SYNTAX score II (SS II) uses 2 anatomical and 6 clinical variables for the prediction of mortality after coronary artery bypass graft and percutaneous coronary intervention. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBG), postprandial glucose (PPG), and SYNTAX Score (SS) and SS II in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease (CAD). We enrolled 215 consecutive diabetic patients with stable angina pectoris who underwent coronary angiography. The SS II was calculated using a nomogram that was based on the findings of a previous study. There was a moderate correlation between HbA1c and SS (r = .396, P < .001), but there was a good correlation between HbA1c and SS II (r = .535, P < .001). There was also a weak correlation between FBG (r = .270, P = .001), PPG (r = .177, P = .027), and SS, but there was a weak–moderate correlation between FBG (r = .341, P < .001), PPG (r = .256, P = .001), and SS II. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with increased cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality. Endocan is a surrogate endothelial dysfunction marker that may be associated with CV risk factors. In this study, we tested whether serum endocan is a biomarker for OSA. Serum endocan levels were measured at baseline in 40 patients with OSA and 40 healthy controls and after 3 months of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment in the patients with OSA. All participants were evaluated by full polysomnography. Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) and carotid intima media thickness (cIMT) were measured in all participants. Endocan levels were significantly higher in patients with OSA than in healthy controls. After adjusting confounders, endocan was a good predictor of OSA. Endocan levels correlated with OSA severity (measured by the apnea–hypopnea index [AHI]). After 3 months of CPAP treatment, endocan levels significantly decreased. Endocan levels were significantly and independently correlated with cIMT and FMD after multiple adjustments. The cIMT and FMD also had significant and independent correlation with AHI. Our aim was to compare direct stenting (DS) with conventional stenting (CS) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and ISI web of science for eligible studies. Primary end point was major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in short term. Secondary end points were 1-year mortality and after-procedural no-reflow phenomenon. Twelve trials in 8998 patients were included. The odds ratios (ORs) were pooled using the Mantel-Haenszel fixed effect model. Short-term MACEs were significantly reduced in the DS arm in contrast to the CS (5.00% vs 8.08%, DS vs CS, respectively, OR [95% confidence interval] = 0.61 [0.46-0.80], P = .0004). One-year mortality and after-procedural no-reflow phenomenon were significantly lower in the DS group. No heterogeneity was observed through I2 test (Phet = .81, .89, and .77 for each end point, respectively). This meta-analysis demonstrated that in selected patients with ACS, DS is not only safe and feasible but also reduces short-term and 1-year mortality as well as the occurrence of after-procedural no-reflow phenomenon. Arterial stiffness is thought to be a precursor to atherosclerosis. Conventional arterial stiffness parameters as potential biomarkers of radiation-induced damage were investigated. Patients with head and neck cancer treated with radiotherapy ≥2 years previously to one side of the neck were included. The unirradiated side was the internal control. Beta stiffness index (B) and elastic modulus (Ep) were used to assess arterial stiffness and were measured in proximal, mid, and distal common carotid artery (CCA) and compared with the corresponding unirradiated segments. Fifty patients (68% male; median age 58 years; interquartile range 50-62) were included. Mean ± standard deviation maximum doses to irradiated and unirradiated arteries were 53 ± 13 and 1.9 ± 3.7 Gy, respectively. Differences in B were not significant. Significant differences in Ep were demonstrated—proximal CCA: 1301 ± 1223 versus 801 ± 492 (P < .0001), mid CCA: 1064 ± 818 versus 935.5 ± 793 (P < .0001), and distal CCA: 1267 ± 1084 versus 775.3 ± 551.9 (P < .0001). Surgery had no impact on arterial stiffness. Arterial stiffness is increased in irradiated arteries, in keeping with radiation-induced damage. Despite new-generations of drug-eluting stents (DESs), the optimal duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) remains controversial. We performed a meta-analysis of randomized trials (RTs) evaluating the effectiveness and safety of shorter versus longer DAPT duration strategies in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions with DES. Literature and main scientific session abstracts were searched. The primary end point was mortality. Secondary end points were (1) cardiovascular mortality, (2) nonfatal myocardial infarction, (3) definite/probable stent thrombosis (ST), and (4) major bleedings. We included 11 RTs (n = 32 372 patients). Shorter DAPT duration reduced mortality (odds ratio, OR [95% confidence interval, CI] = 0.85 [0.71-1], P = .05; p heterogeneity = 0.91). Similar results were observed when comparing 3 to 6 versus 12 months DAPT, while a significant increase in recurrent ischemic events was found for 6 to 12 months DAPT versus extended treatment (myocardial infarction: OR [95%CI] = 1.66 [1.37-2], P < .00001; phet = 0.13 and ST: OR [95%CI] = 2.47 [1.72-3.45], P < .00001; phet = 0.12), however, counterbalanced by a significant reduction in major bleeding (OR [95%CI] = 0.60 [0.47-0.76], P < .0001; phet = 0.38) and a trend in lower mortality. Thus, among selected patients undergoing DES implantation, a shorter DAPT strategy is associated with reduction in mortality and major bleeding but a higher risk of myocardial infarction and ST. A short duration (3-6 months) of DAPT appears as the safest strategy, while a prolonged duration (24-36 months) reduces thrombotic complications but with an excess in major bleeding complications. We compared midterm prognostic predictors of peripheral artery disease (PAD) with or without diabetes mellitus (DM) presenting with critical lower limb ischemia (CLI). A total of 172 patients with PAD (109 DM; 63 non-DM) were enrolled. The major adverse events (MAEs) were death or amputation. The diabetic group had a higher MAE rate (39% vs 22%, P = .042) with a mean follow-up duration of 30 ± 19 months. In a multivariate binary logistic regression analysis, revascularization (odds ratio = 0.289, P = .006) and higher serum cholesterol (odds ratio=0.988, P = .027) predicted a lower MAE rate in the DM group. In contrast, the presence of severe chronic kidney disease (stage 4 or 5, odds ratio = 5.238, P = .025) was a positive predictor of MAEs in the nondiabetic group. Statins have multiple effects (also known as pleiotropic effects) on inflammation, plaque stabilization, endothelial function, and hemostasis. We evaluated the effects of rosuvastatin on mean platelet volume (MPV)—a marker for platelet activity—in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) on rosuvastatin medication. Patients (n = 178) who were to be prescribed high-intensity rosuvastatin were retrospectively enrolled according to their medical records. Baseline and 6-month biochemical tests, automated blood count, cell-volume analysis, and their cardiovascular risk factors were recorded. Rosuvastatin significantly reduced the MPV and the lipid parameters including total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). However, there was no correlation between MPV and LDL-C before (r = −.66; P = .383) and after (r = −.112; P = .135) rosuvastatin treatment or between ΔMPV and ΔLDL-C after 40 mg rosuvastatin daily therapy (r = −.155; P = .073). Rosuvastatin significantly decreases the MPV as well as cholesterol levels. The antiplatelet activation properties of high-dose rosuvastatin treatment in patients with DM are not lipid dependent. Objectives: Despite the significant role of certain hematologic parameters in reperfusion injury, their relationship with microvascular reperfusion remains not well understood. Therefore, our objective was to evaluate the relationship between hematologic parameters at admission and microvascular reperfusion in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (primary PCI). Methods: A total of 213patients (mean age: 57.5 ± 11 years) with STEMI were included. Blood samples were obtained from all patients prior to primary PCI. Electrocardiographic recordings were made for the evaluation of ST-segment resolution (STR) before and after primary PCI. Angiographic assessment in the infarct-related artery was performed using the myocardial blush grade (MBG) and thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow. Patients were categorized into 2 groups as those with impaired microvascular reperfusion (STR <70%, TIMI: 0-1, and MBG: 0-1) and those with normal microvascular reperfusion (STR >70%, TIMI: 2-3, and MBG: 2-3). Results: Of the overall study group, 139, 105, and 69 patients had an STR of <70%, MBG of 0-1, and TIMI of 0-1, respectively. Demographic parameters in both groups are shown in the tables. Patients with impaired microvascular reperfusion were found to have higher white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, and mean platelet volume (MPV). Neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio and platelet count were similar between the 2 groups. Correlation analysis showed a negative correlation between lymphocyte count and STR (r: −.195, P: .004), lymphocyte count and TIMI flow(r: −.09, P: .14), and lymphocyte count and MBG (r: −.211, P: .002). Conclusion: Our results suggest that higher WBC count and MPV at admission are independent predictors of impaired microvascular perfusion in patients with STEMI. On the other hand, a negative correlation was found between lymphocyte count and impaired microvascular perfusion. The platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) has recently emerged as a potential inflammatory biomarker. Hence, we assessed the relationship between PLR and the extent/severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) using the Gensini score in association with the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients with stable CAD. Angiographic data of 1646 patients were analyzed in this cross-sectional study. Patients were categorized according to Gensini scores as no CAD (control), mild, and severe CAD groups. The PLR in the control group was significantly lower than those of mild and severe CAD groups. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, PLR was found to be an independent predictor of the presence of severe CAD (odds ratio: 1.043 [1.036-1.049], P < .001). Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between PLR and the severity of CAD (r = .370, P < .001) and CRP levels (r = .312, P < .001). In conclusion, PLR was independently and positively associated with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely related to insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome and might be an important cardiovascular (CV) risk factor. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity-related CV disease. In an NAFLD population, we investigated EAT thickness and its possible relations to NAFLD and cardiac structure and function. This was an observational study of 57 patients with NAFLD and 48 age-matched controls. Patients with NAFLD had significantly higher body mass index (P < .0001), waist circumference (P < .0001), and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (P = .005), whereas high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = .01) and adiponectin (P = .005) levels were significantly lower. The EAT was not thicker in NAFLD but was positively related to indices of impaired glucose tolerance and inflammation, with diabetes being an independent predictor of EAT thickness (b* = 0.29, P = .04). No relations were found between EAT and cardiac structure and function. In conclusion, this study confirms a pathologic phenotype of NAFLD. To investigate whether tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) could attenuate contrast media (CM)-induced renal tubular cell apoptosis by inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), we exposed HK-2 cells to increasing doses of meglumine diatrizoate (20, 40, and 80 mg I/mL) for 2 to 16 hours, with/without TUDCA preconditioning for 24 hours. Cell viability test, Hoechst 33258 staining, and flow cytometry were used to detect meglumine diatrizoate-induced cell apoptosis, while real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis were used to measure the expressions of ERS markers of glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), and the apoptosis-related marker of caspase 12. Cell apoptosis and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of GRP78 (P = .005), ATF4 (P = .01), and caspase 12 (P = .001) were significantly higher in the CM 4 hours group than the control as well as the protein expressions. The TUDCA preconditioning reduced the mRNA expression of GRP78, ATF4, and caspase 12 in the CM 4 hours groups (P = .009, .019, and .003, respectively) as well as the protein expression. Aim: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis on retrograde wiring in chronic total occlusions (CTOs) with focus on its safety and feasibility. Methods and Results: We searched publications from 1990 to December 2013 in PubMed, Ovid, EMBASE, and the Cochrane database inserting a number of terms relating to the collateral circulation of the heart in CTOs. A total of 18 case series (n range17-462) with a total of 2280 CTO revascularization attempts fulfilled criteria for a study of retrograde wiring of collateral channels in CTOs. There were no randomized studies comparing a primary antegrade with a primary retrograde approach. Procedural CTO revascularization rates ranged from 67% to 90.6% with a large proportion having previously failed an “antegrade” approach. The septal perforator collaterals and epicardial channels were used in 73.2% (n = 1670) and 21.7% (n = 495) of cases. Although collateral/coronary perforation was not infrequent (n = 90, 5%), serious acute complications were uncommon; in the combined population 18 cases of cardiac tamponade (0.8%) and 3 deaths (0.1%). Septal perforating wiring (79.3%) was significantly more likely to be successful compared to epicardial coronary artery wiring (72.5%) when chosen by the operator as a route of retrograde access to the CTO body (relative risk 1.11 [95% confidence interval: 1.02-1.20; P = .013]). Conclusion: Successful retrograde wiring of collateral channels in selected patients undertaken by “CTO dedicated” operators can significantly enhance the chances of revascularization of complex CTOs with a low risk of acute serious complications. Septal perforator channels are significantly more likely to be successfully retrogradely wired compared to epicardial vessels when either is selected, by reference to their anatomical suitability by the operator, as a route of access. The impact of a natural supplement (Kepar; Rikrea, Italy), containing several plant extracts such as curcuma longa, silymarin, guggul, chlorogenic acid, and inulin, was evaluated in 78 patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS; 45 men; age: 62 ± 9 years). Kepar at a dose of 2 pills/d was given for 4 months as add-on therapy to the ongoing treatment, maintained at fixed doses for the entire study. Anthropometric variables, plasma lipids, glucose parameters, and oxidative stress were measured at baseline and after 4 months. We found significant reductions in body weight (from 81.1 ± 13.5 to 79.4 ± 12.5 kg, P < .0001), body mass index (from 29.6 [23.7] to 29.3 [21.9] kg/m2, P = .001), and waist circumference (from 105 ± 11 to 102 ± 10 cm, P = .0004) as well as in fasting glucose (from 6.5 [11.7] to 6.4 [7.6] mmol/L, P = .014) and total cholesterol (from 4.8 ± 1.4 to 4.5 ± 1.0 mmol/L, P = .03). No significant changes were found in the other appraised parameters, including oxidative stress. In conclusion, after few months of treatment Kepar seems to exert beneficial effects in patients with MetS. We determined whether exercise performance and lower extremity microcirculation were associated with endothelial cell inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis and with circulating biomarkers of inflammation and antioxidant capacity in 160 patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease (PAD). In a multivariate regression model for peak walking time, significant independent variables included ankle–brachial index (P < .001), age (P = .017), hydroxyl radical antioxidant capacity (P = .008), and endothelial cell nuclear factor K-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) activity (P = .015). In multivariate analyses for time to minimum exercise calf muscle hemoglobin oxygen saturation (StO2), significant independent variables included endothelial cell NF-κB activity (P = .043) and calf muscle StO2 at rest (P = .007). Endothelial cell inflammation and circulating biomarkers of inflammation and antioxidant capacity were associated with exercise performance and microcirculation of the ischemic calf musculature during exercise. The clinical implication is that interventions designed to alleviate endothelial cell inflammation and circulating inflammatory biomarkers, such as antioxidant therapy, may improve exercise performance of symptomatic patients with PAD. d-Dimer is a prothrombotic biomarker and a very sensitive measure of endogenous fibrinolysis. It is used as a screening test for suspected deep vein thrombosis. This study investigated whether d-dimer levels were increased in the varicose veins of patients in comparison to their own arm samples. Patients, n = 24, 17 male, age 45 (25-91), C2-6, awaiting saphenous laser ablation were compared to matched controls, n = 24, 17 male, age 42 (24-89). Concurrent venous blood samples were taken from the arm and a lower calf/ankle (varicose) vein. The median (interquartile range) d-dimer (ng/mL) level was significantly greater in the ankle than in the arm blood of the same patient at 319 (164-631) versus 281 (167-562), P = .003, Wilcoxon. This did not occur in the controls at 269 (80-564) versus 262 (106-526), P = .361, Wilcoxon. The results indicate increased endogenous fibrinolysis in varicose veins compared with arm blood. This suggests there is more thrombotic activity or dissolution of formed subclinical fibrin thrombus which may explain the association of varicose veins with superficial vein thrombosis. We determined a relatively safe contrast media volume-to-creatinine clearance (V/CrCl) cutoff value to avoid contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients (n = 111) with reduced ejection fraction (<40%). Improved prediction of CIN in these patients would be useful. Multivariate regression models were used to evaluate whether V/CrCl is an independent risk factor for CIN. Nine (8.1%) patients developed CIN. The V/CrCl was significantly (P = .023) higher in patients with CIN than in those without. The incidence of CIN in patients with the highest tertile of V/CrCl was significantly higher than the middle and lowest tertiles (18.4% vs 2.7% and 2.8%; P = .013). After adjusting for other potential risk factors, a V/CrCl ≥3.87 remained significantly associated with risk of CIN. We assessed the association between 5 well-defined polymorphisms of the transforming growth factor-β1 (TGFB1) gene and coronary artery disease (CAD) among patients with hypertension from northeast China. All study participants were classified into patients with CAD (n = 679) and controls (n = 686) according to angiographic results. Genotyping was carried out with the ligase detection reaction method. In single-locus analysis, only genotypes of rs1800469 differed significantly between patients with CAD and controls (P = .001); patients carrying the mutant allele of rs1800469 exhibited a 73% increased risk of CAD (P < .001). Haplotype analysis indicated that haplotype A-T-T-C-C (alleles in the order of rs1800468, rs1800469, rs1800470, rs1800471, and rs1800472) was associated with a 1.49-fold increased risk (P = .003). Interaction analysis identified an overall best 3-locus model including rs1800469, rs1800468, and rs1800471 (P = .003). Hypercoagulability in mitral valve disease (MVD), a cause of atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke, is potentially due to endothelial damage/dysfunction (marked by circulating endothelial cells [CECs]), platelet activation (soluble P-selectin [sPsel], platelet microparticles [PMPs], and soluble CD40 [sCD40]), and oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) cholesterol. We measured these variables in 24 patients with MVD as well as in 21 with MVD + AF and compared them with 20 healthy controls (HCs). The CECs and PMPs were measured by flow cytometry; sPsel, oxLDL, and CD40 by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Compared with HCs, sPsel and PMPs were equally higher in MVD and MVD + AF; sCD40 and oxLDL were higher in MVD + AF than in HCs and MVD; and CECs were higher in MVD than in the HCs, with further increases in MVD + AF (all P < .001). We evaluated the acute effect of intracoronary administration of tirofiban on no-reflow phenomenon in patients with ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Consecutive patients (n = 162) were randomized into 2 groups based on whether intracoronary tirofiban was administered. After the administration of intracoronary tirofiban, thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow grade significantly increased (P < .001) and successful reperfusion was achieved in 26 (32%) patients. In the placebo group, however, after the administration of intracoronary placebo the TIMI flow grade did not change (P = .070), and successful reperfusion was achieved only in 8 (10%) patients. In-hospital major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were significantly lower in the tirofiban group (36% vs 19%, P = .013). This study investigated whether there is a relationship between atrial fibrillation (AF), mean platelet volume (MPV), and apnea hypopnea index (AHI) in patients who have obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). We enrolled patients who had OSAS with either AF or normal sinus rhythm (NSR). We divided 90 patients (aged 50-80 years) into 2 groups: group 1 consisted of 40 patients with OSAS having AF and group 2 of 50 patients with OSAS having NSR. Mean platelet volume was higher in patients with AF than in those with NSR (9.8 ± 0.6 vs 8.4 ± 0.6 fL; P < .001). The MPV and AHI were substantial variables associated with AF (odds ratio [OR] = 2.41; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.36-5.26; P < .004 and OR = 1.91; 95% CI, 1.26-3.32; P = .02). We investigated whether the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) can predict stent thrombosis (STh) and high mortality rate in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We analyzed data of 102 patients with STh and 450 patients with STEMI admitted to 2 high volume hospitals. Preprocedural NLR was significantly higher in patients with STh (P < .001). There was a significantly higher mortality rate in patients with high NLR during hospitalization (P < .001). Also, in the STh group there was a significantly higher mortality rate in patients with high NLR (P < .001). In receiver–operating characteristic analysis, NLR >4.8 had 56% sensitivity and 68% specificity for predicting STh. The NLR >4.9 had 70% sensitivity and 65% specificity for predicting in-hospital mortality. On multivariate regression analysis, NLR was found to be significantly related to STh. The association between methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene polymorphisms and venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk in the Chinese population has been widely reported, but results were inconsistent and underpowered. To elucidate the variable results, a meta-analysis and systematic review were performed from all case-controlled studies relating MTHFR C677T polymorphism by pooling data on them. We estimated the pooled odds ratio with its 95% confidence intervals to assess this possible association. Finally, a total of 24 studies with 2339 cases and 4048 controls were included in the current meta-analysis. Significant association was found with VTE risk for all genetic models. Subgroup analyses by type of VTE further identified the above-mentioned association in deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism and splanchnic vein thrombosis. We assessed reactivity of cerebral vessels on hypercapnia in patients with carotid occlusive disease. The effects of vascular risk factors on carotid atherosclerosis and vasomotor reactivity (VMR) of cerebral arterioles were also examined. Patients (n = 50) with carotid stenosis (≥30% in 1 or both sides) were included; 30 patients acted as controls. Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, cardiac diseases, inflammation, and smoking were recorded. Vasomotor reactivity was assessed with the apnea test by transcranial Doppler ultrasonography and estimated by flow velocity changes in the middle cerebral artery before and after hypercapnia induction. Vasomotor reactivity was defined by the breath holding index, and values under 0.69 were considered critical for VMR impairment. Vasomotor reactivity reduction was significant (P = .004) in patients with severe carotid stenosis (>70%) and with symptomatic carotid disease (P < .05). We assessed the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and carotid artery inflammation measured by 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography. Participants were 755 consecutive otherwise healthy adult males who underwent a general health screening program. Carotid FDG uptake, represented as maximum target-to-background ratio, was increased with mild (n = 237; 1.61 ± 0.14; P = .033) and moderate NAFLD (n = 145; 1.63 ± 0.16; P = .005) compared with controls (n = 373; 1.58 ± 0.15). In patients aged >50 years, moderate NAFLD was the only independent risk factor for high carotid FDG uptake (odds ratio, 2.12; 95% confidence interval, 1.10-4.07; P = .001). Apparently healthy adult males with NAFLD have elevated carotid FDG uptake as well as increased carotid intima–media thickness, suggesting that they may be at an increased risk of having inflammatory atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid arteries. The transradial approach (TRA) has been used as access site for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for years. However, no large sample study has evaluated the effect of TRA in elderly patients. A total of 1098 elderly patients (age ≥ 75 years) who underwent PCI by TRA or transfemoral approach were recruited. A 1:1 matched propensity score analysis was performed to minimize bias. The rates of major adverse cardiovascular events that included death, myocardial infarction (MI), and target vessel revascularization during hospitalization (1.3% vs 6.6%, P = .014) and at 1-year follow-up (6.0% vs 13.9%, P = .019) were significantly lower in the TRA group. Transradial approach was also associated with lower rates of in-hospital MI (1.3% vs 5.3%, P = .046), access-site complications (3.3% vs 9.9%, P = .018), and major bleeding (1.3% vs 5.3%, P = .046). Our aim was to evaluate the incremental predictive value of adding mean platelet volume (MPV) to the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) risk score. The MPV and GRACE score were determined on admission in 509 consecutive patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Six-month mortality or nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI) was the study end point. Overall, 61 (12%) patients reached the combined end point. Cox multivariate analysis showed that an elevated MPV was an independent predictor of 6-month mortality or MI in patients with ACS. The addition of MPV to the GRACE model improved its global fit and discriminatory capacity. The new model including MPV allowed adequate reclassification of 16% of the patients. We evaluated whether altered reporting of ischemic symptoms occurs in diabetic patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and stable claudication. Patients (n = 152) with claudication were enrolled (120 males; mean age: 71.0 ± 8.6 years): 74 with diabetes (DM-PAD) and 78 without (DMfree-PAD). The degree of muscle oxygenation at symptom onset and maximal speed (Smax) during an incremental treadmill test was recorded at the gastrocnemius by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and quantified by area under the curve of oxygenated hemoglobin (AUC-Hbo2) and area under the curve of differential hemoglobin (AUC-dHb). The DM-PAD and DMfree-PAD showed similar exercise capacities inversely correlated with the degree of muscle oxygenation but significantly lower values of AUC-Hbo2 and AUC-dHb for DM-PAD at symptom onset and Smax (−356 vs −122 and −1200 vs −359, P < .0001). During a NIRS-assisted test, the report of claudication in the presence of diabetes was delayed, occurring at a lower degree of oxygenation than in patients with PAD only, with potential implications for testing, functional staging, and balance disorders. Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is associated with exercise impairment and greater thrombotic risk. We investigated whether clot formation and platelet aggregation assessed by thromboelastography and light-transmission aggregometry correlate with the severity of symptomatic PAD assessed by ambulatory function measures. We studied 40 symptomatic patients with PAD in whom severity of disease was assessed using ankle–brachial index, peak walking time (PWT), claudication onset time, peak oxygen uptake, daily ambulatory activity, and walking impairment questionnaire (WIQ) scores. Clot strength correlated negatively with peak oxygen uptake, PWT, WIQ distance, and stair-climbing scores. Time to clot formation did not correlate with exercise parameters. Platelet aggregation was negatively correlated with WIQ distance score and was positively correlated with PWT and peak oxygen uptake. In conclusion, clot strength and platelet aggregation correlated with objective and self-perceived ambulatory measures.
