1. Boundary value problems with measures for elliptic equations with singular potentials

Abstract: We study the boundary value problem with Radon measures for nonnegative solutions of $L_Vu:=-\Delta u+Vu=0$ in a bounded smooth domain $\Gw$, when $V$ is a locally bounded nonnegative function. Introducing some specific capacity, we give sufficient conditions on a Radon measure $\gm$ on $\prt\Gw$ so that the problem can be solved. We study the reduced measure associated to this equation as well as the boundary trace of positive solutions. In the appendix A. Ancona solves a question raised by M. Marcus and L. Abstract: Altres ajuts: UNAB10-4E-378, co-funded by ERDF "A way to build Europe" and by the French ANR-11-BS01-0009 STAAVF. In this paper we study unfoldings of saddle-nodes and their Dulac time. By unfolding a saddle-node, saddles and nodes appear. In the first result (Theorem A) we give a uniform asymptotic expansion of the trajectories arriving at the node. Uniformity is with respect to all parameters including the unfolding parameter bringing the node to a saddle-node and a parameter belonging to a space of functions. In the second part, we apply this first result for proving a regularity result (Theorem B) on the Dulac time (time of Dulac map) of an unfolding of a saddle-node. This result is a building block in the study of bifurcations of critical periods in a neighborhood of a polycycle. Finally, we apply Theorem A and Theorem B to the study of critical periods of the Loud family of quadratic centers and we prove that no bifurcation occurs for certain values of the parameters (Theorem C).

Abstract: In this article we study quasilinear systems of two types, in a domain $\Omega$ of $R^N$ : with absorption terms, or mixed terms: \begin{eqnarray} (A): \mathcal{A}_{p} u=v^{\delta}, \mathcal{A}_{q}v=u^{\mu},\\ (M): \mathcal{A}_{p} u=v^{\delta}, -\mathcal{A}_{q}v=u^{\mu}, \end{eqnarray} where $\delta$, $\mu>0$ and $1 0$; the model case is $\mathcal{A}_p = \Delta_p$, $\mathcal{A}_q = \Delta_q.$ Despite of the lack of comparison principle, we prove a priori estimates of Keller-Osserman type: \begin{eqnarray} u(x)\leq Cd(x,\partial\Omega)^{-\frac{p(q-1)+q\delta}{D}},\qquad v(x)\leq Cd(x,\partial\Omega)^{-\frac{q(p-1)+p\mu}{D}}. \end{eqnarray} Concerning system $(M)$, we show that $v$ always satisfies Harnack inequality. In the case $\Omega=B(0,1)\backslash \{0\}$, we also study the behaviour near 0 of the solutions of more general weighted systems, giving a priori estimates and removability results. Finally we prove the sharpness of the results.

Abstract: In this work we study the nonnegative solutions of the elliptic system \[ \Delta u=|x|^{a}v^{\delta},\qquad\Delta v=|x|^{b}u^{\mu}% \] in the superlinear case $\mu\delta>1,$ which blow up near the boundary of a domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N},$ or at one isolated point. In the radial case we give the precise behavior of the large solutions near the boundary in any dimension $N$. We also show the existence of infinitely many solutions blowing up at $0.$ Furthermore, we show that there exists a global positive solution in $\mathbb{R}^{N}\backslash\left\{ 0\right\} ,$ large at $0,$ and we describe its behavior. We apply the results to the sign changing solutions of the biharmonic equation \[ \Delta^{2}u=\left\vert x\right\vert ^{b}\left\vert u\right\vert ^{\mu}. \] Our results are based on a new dynamical approach of the radial system by means of a quadratic system of order 4, introduced in [4], combined with the nonradial upper estimates of [5].

Abstract: In this article we study the positive solutions of the parabolic semilinear system of competitive type in Ω × (0, T), where Ω is a domain of ℝN, and p,q > 0, pq ≠ 1, Despite of the lack of comparison principles, we prove local upper estimates in the superlinear case pq > 1 of the form u(x, t) ≦ Ct-(p+1)/(pq-1), v(x, t) ≦ Ct-(q+1)/(pq-1) in ω × (0, T1), for any domain ω ⊂⊂ Ω, T1 ∈ (0, T), and C = C(N, p, q, T1, ω). For p, q > 1, we prove the existence of an initial trace at time 0, which is a Borel measure on Ω. Finally we prove that the punctual singularities at time 0 are removable when p, q ≧ 1 + 2/N.

Abstract: Given a bounded domain $D \subset \mathbb{R}^N$ and $m > 1$, we study the long-time behaviour of solutions to the Porous Medium equation (PME) posed in a tube \[ \partial_tu = Δu^m \quad \text{ in } D \times \mathbb{R}, \quad t > 0, \] with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on the boundary $\partial D \times \mathbb{R}$ and suitable initial datum at $t=0$. In two previous works, Vázquez and Gilding & Goncerzewicz proved that a wide class of solutions exhibit a traveling wave behaviour, when computed at a logarithmic time-scale and suitably renormalized. In this paper, we show that, for large times, solutions converge in relative error to the Friendly Giant, i.e., the unique nonnegative solution to the PME posed in the section $D$ of the tube (with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions) having a special self-similar form. In addition, sharp rates of convergence and uniform bounds for the location of the free boundary of solutions are given.

Abstract: Linear complementarity problems provide a powerful framework to model nonsmooth phenomena in a variety of real-world applications. In dynamical control systems, they appear coupled to a linear input-output system in the form of linear complementarity systems. Mimicking the program that led to the foundation of bifurcation theory in smooth maps, we introduce a novel notion of equivalence between linear complementarity problems that sets the basis for a theory of bifurcations in a large class of nonsmooth maps, including, but not restricted to, steadystate bifurcations in linear complementarity systems. Our definition exploits the rich geometry of linear complementarity problems and leads to constructive algebraic conditions for identifying and classifying the nonsmooth singularities associated with nonsmooth bifurcations. We thoroughly illustrate our theory on an extended applied example, the design of bistability in an electrical network, and a more theoretical one, the identification and classification of all possible equivalence classes in two-dimensional linear complementarity problems.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-08-01 Sequential infections with different dengue serotypes (DENV-1, 4) significantly increase the risk of a severe disease outcome (fever, shock, and hemorrhagic disorders). Two hypotheses have been proposed to explain the severity of the disease: (1) antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) and (2) original T cell antigenic sin. In this work, we explored the first hypothesis through mathematical modeling. The proposed model reproduces the dynamic of susceptible and infected target cells and dengue virus in scenarios of infection-neutralizing and infection-enhancing antibody competition induced by two distinct serotypes of the dengue virus during secondary infection. The enhancement and neutralization functions are derived from basic concepts of chemical reactions and used to mimic binding to the virus by two distinct populations of antibodies. The analytic study of the model showed the existence of two equilibriums: a disease-free equilibrium and an endemic one. Using the concept of the basic reproduction numberR, we performed the asymptotic stability analysis for the two equilibriums. To measure the severity of the disease, we considered the maximum value of infected cells as well as the time when this maximum is reached. We observed that it corresponds to the time when the maximum enhancing activity for the infection occurs. This critical time was calculated from the model to be a few days after the occurrence of the infection, which corresponds to what is observed in the literature. Finally, using as output R, we were able to rank the contribution of each parameter of the model. Abstract: We analyze the consequences that the so-called turnpike property has on the long-time behavior of the value function corresponding to a finite-dimensional linear-quadratic optimal control problem with general terminal cost and constrained controls.We prove that, when the time horizon $T$ tends to infinity, the value function asymptotically behaves as $W(x) + c\, T + \lambda$, and we provide a control interpretation of each of these three terms, making clear the link with the turnpike property.As a by-product, we obtain the long-time behavior of the solution to the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation in a case where the Hamiltonian is not coercive in the momentum variable. As a result of independent interest, we provide a new turnpike result for the linear-quadratic optimal control problem with constrained control. As a main feature, our turnpike result applies to the case when the steady optimum may saturate the control constraints. This prevented us from proving the turnpike property with an exponential rate, which is well-known to hold for the unconstrained case.

Abstract: Given a colored point set in the plane, a perfect rainbow polygon is a simple polygon that contains exactly one point of each color, either in its interior or on its boundary. Let $\operatorname{rb-index}(S)$ denote the smallest size of a perfect rainbow polygon for a colored point set $S$, and let $\operatorname{rb-index}(k)$ be the maximum of $\operatorname{rb-index}(S)$ over all $k$-colored point sets in general position; that is, every $k$-colored point set $S$ has a perfect rainbow polygon with at most $\operatorname{rb-index}(k)$ vertices. Abstract: In this paper, we prove the small-time global null-controllability of forward (resp. backward) semilinear stochastic parabolic equations with globally Lipschitz nonlinearities in the drift and diffusion terms (resp. in the drift term). In particular, we solve the open question posed by S. Tang and X. Zhang, in 2009. We propose a new twist on a classical strategy for controlling linear stochastic systems. By employing a new refined Carleman estimate, we obtain a controllability result in a weighted space for a linear system with source terms. The main novelty here is that the Carleman parameters are made explicit and are then used in a Banach fixed point method. This allows to circumvent the well-known problem of the lack of compactness embeddings for the solutions spaces arising in the study of controllability problems for stochastic PDEs.

Abstract: Two analysis errors have been identified that affect the results for a handful of the high-value pulsars given in Table 1 of Abbott et al. (2019). One affects the Bayesian analysis for the five pulsars that glitched during the analysis period, and the other affects the 5n-vector analysis for J0711-6830. Updated results after correcting the errors are shown in Table 1, which now supersedes the results given for those pulsars in Table 1 of Abbott et al. (2019). Updated versions of figures can be seen in Figures 1-4. Bayesian analysis.-For the glitching pulsars, the signal phase evolution caused by the glitch was wrongly applied twice and was therefore not consistent with our expected model of the pulsar phase. This error did not affect the F/G-statistic or 5n-vector analysis. Analyses of the five pulsars PSR J0205+6449, PSR J0534+2200, PSR J0835-4510, PSR J1028-5819, and PSR J1718-3825 have been repeated after correcting for the error. There are small quantitative differences in the results, but the changes do not affect the main conclusions of the paper. The largest differences are for PSR J0835-4510 (the Vela pulsar), for which the updated upper limits from the Bayesian method are found to be between 1.1 and 2 times larger than those obtained when the error was present. This appears primarily to be due to the error leading to the decohering of a strong spectral line in the LIGO Livingston detector and thus lowering the amplitude limit. 5n-vector analysis.-An error was also identified in the settings of the 5n-vector analysis, which affected the upper limit computation at the rotation frequency for C21 95% of J0711-6830. Specifically, we found an incorrect choice for the range of amplitudes used to inject simulated signals in the O2 data. The updated upper limit is about 2.5 times worse than that obtained when the error was present. This error did not affect the Bayesian or F/G-statistic results. (Table Presented) (Figure Presented).

Abstract: International audience; This paper is devoted to the construction and analysis of a new family of three-points nonlinear cell-average subdivision (multiresolution) schemes. They are based on a centered piecewise nonlinear reconstruction adapted to discontinuities. Some theoretical properties of these schemes (convergence, order of approximation, preservation of the monotonicity in the data, stability or absence of the Gibbs phenomenon) are analyzed. Abstract: International audience; The generalized Hirota-Satsuma system consists of three coupled nonlinear Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equations. By using two distributed controls it is proven in this paper that the local null controllability property holds when the system is posed on a bounded interval. First, the system is linearized around the origin obtaining two decoupled subsystems of third order dispersive equations. This linear system is controlled with two inputs, which is optimal. This is done with a duality approach and some appropriate Carleman estimates. Then, by means of an inverse function theorem, the local null controllability of the nonlinear system is proven.

Abstract: We analyze the consequences that the so-called turnpike property has on the long-time behavior of the value function corresponding to a finite-dimensional linear-quadratic optimal control problem with general terminal cost and constrained controls. We prove that, when the time horizon $T$ tends to infinity, the value function asymptotically behaves as $W(x) + c\, T + \lambda$, and we provide a control interpretation of each of these three terms, making clear the link with the turnpike property. As a by-product, we obtain the long-time behavior of the solution to the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation in a case where the Hamiltonian is not coercive in the momentum variable. As a result of independent interest, we showed that linear-quadratic optimal control problems with constrained control enjoy a turnpike property, also particularly when the steady optimum may saturate the control constraints.

Abstract: We investigate properties of the contact exponent (in the sense of Hironaka [Hi]) of plane algebroid curve singularities over algebraically closed fields of arbitrary characteristic. We prove that the contact exponent is an equisingularity invariant and give a new proof of the stability of the maximal contact. Then we prove a bound for the Milnor number and determine the equisingularity class of algebroid curves for which this bound is attained. We do not use the method of Newton's diagrams. Our tool is the logarithmic distance developed in [GB-P1].

Abstract: International audience; We revisit the minimal time problem of in-situ decontamination of large water resources with a bioreactor, considering a recirculation flow rate in the resource as an additional control. This new problem has two manipulated inputs : 1. the flow rate of the treatment in thebioreactor (which enters nonlinearly in the dynamics because of the biological dependancy between the flow rate and the concentration at the output of the bioreactor) 2. the flow rate of the recirculation in the resource between the pumping and reinjection locations (which enters linearly the dynamics). Although the velocity set of the dynamics is non convex, we show that the optimal control is reached amongnon-relaxed controls. The optimal strategy consists in three sequential steps: 1. do not recirculate water and take the flow rate of treatment that maximizes the concentration decay in the resource. 2. recirculate water at maximum rate and carry on with the flow rate that maximizesthe concentration decay. 3. carry on with recirculation but do not treat the water (i.e. bypass the bioreactor). Finally, we show on numericalsimulations that significant gains in processing time can be achieved when controlling the recirculation flow rate.

Abstract: The first edition of the Technical Specification (TS) on Primary Optics for Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) Systems, IEC TS 62989:2018, has been published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), on March 8th, 2018. TS 62989 covers aspects related to the primary optics including: product identification, optical characteristics, mechanical characteristics, materials, (design) geometry, and visual appearance. This paper focuses on the key aspects of the norm, including optical performance, in order to promote the awareness and use of the standard. We describe the three methods intended to measure the key optical characteristics of the primary elements, i.e. focal spot size and optical efficiency, by using the encircled energy. The three methods are using different light sources, optical components and receiver sensors, but yielded very similar results in a round robin test. This justifies the continued use of all three methods. The use of a website (opticstests.pbworks.com) for documentation of discussions and references was novel to the standard development. The website proved to be useful for the introduction of new members of the group. Abstract: This Accepted Manuscript will be available for reuse under a CC BY-NC-ND licence after 24 months of embargo period, In this article, we study the null controllability of a linear system coming from a population dynamics model with age structuring and spatial diffusion (of Lotka–McKendrick type). The control is localized in the space variable as well as with respect to the age. The first novelty we bring in is that the age interval in which the control needs to be active can be arbitrarily small and does not need to contain a neighbourhood of 0. The second one is that we prove that the whole population can be steered into zero in a uniform time, without, as in the existing literature, excluding some interval of low ages. Moreover, we improve the existing estimates of the controllability time and we show that our estimates are sharp, at least when the control is active for very low ages. Finally, we show that the system can be steered between two positive steady states by controls preserving the positivity of the state trajectory. Abstract: In this article, we propose a new model for describing the population evolution while considering the effect of the sterile insect release method (SIRM) and the Allee effect. Different from classical deterministic or stochastic modelings, our model is developed as a hydrodynamic limit of an interacting particle system. Some system solutions are then studied and an optimal control problem is formulated in order to design control strategies for eradicating the target pest population with as less sterile males as possible. Numerical results show that the population eradicating mission can be achieved when sufficiently large sterile male release rate is provided, and that the Allee effect can help to reduce the use of sterile males.

Abstract: Tridendriform algebras are a type of associative algebras, introduced independently by F. Chapoton and by J.-L. Loday and the third author, in order to describe operads related to the Stasheff polytopes. The vector space $\st$ spanned by the faces of permutohedra has a natural structure of tridendriform bialgebra, we prove that it is free as a tridendriform algebra and exhibit a basis. Abstract: International audience; Although in recent years there have been quite a few studies aimed at the navigation of robots in cluttered environments, few of these have addressed the problem of robots navigating while moving a large or heavy object. Such a functionality is especially useful when transporting objects of different shapes and weights without having to modify the robot hardware. In this work, we tackle the problem of making two humanoid robots navigate in a cluttered environment while transporting a very large object that simply could not be moved by a single robot. We present a complete navigation scheme, from the incremental construction of a map of the environment and the computation of collision-free trajec-tories to the design of the control to execute those trajectories. We present experiments made on real Nao robots, equipped with RGB-D sensors mounted on their heads, moving an object around obstacles. Our experiments show that a significantly large object can be transported without modifying the robot main hardware, and therefore that our scheme enhances the humanoid robots capacities in real-life situations. Our contributions are: (1) a low-dimension multi-robot motion planning algorithm that finds an obstacle-free trajectory, by using the constructed map of the environment as an input, (2) a framework that produces continuous and consistent odometry data, by fusing the visual and the robot odometry information, (3) a synchronization system that Two Nao robots holding an object together. We propose a motion planning strategy for the Nao-object-Nao system to navigate in a cluttered environment and a synchronization approach that allows the motions done by the two Naos without compromising the whole system stability because of the robots swinging movement. uses the projection of the robots based on their hands positions coupled with the visual feedback error computed from a frontal camera, (4) an efficient real-time whole-body control scheme that controls the motions of the closed-loop robot-object-robot system.

Abstract: In this article we consider the Stokes problem with Navier-type boundary conditions on a domain $${\Omega}$$ , not necessarily simply connected. Since, under these conditions, the Stokes problem has a non trivial kernel, we also study the solutions lying in the orthogonal of that kernel. We prove the analyticity of several semigroups generated by the Stokes operator considered in different functional spaces. We obtain strong, weak and very weak solutions for the time dependent Stokes problem with the Navier-type boundary condition under different hypotheses on the initial data u 0 and external force f. Then, we study the fractional and pure imaginary powers of several operators related with our Stokes operators. Using the fractional powers, we prove maximal regularity results for the homogeneous Stokes problem. On the other hand, using the boundedness of the pure imaginary powers, we deduce maximal $${L^{p}-L^{q}}$$ regularity for the inhomogeneous Stokes problem.

Abstract: International audience; This paper studies optimal control problems with state constraints by imposing structural assumptions on the constraint domain coupled with a tangential restriction with the dynamics. These assumptions replace pointing or controllability assumptions that are common in the literature, and provide a framework under which feasible boundary trajectories can be analyzed directly. The value functions associated with the state constrained Mayer and minimal time problems are characterized as solutions to a pair of Hamilton-Jacobi inequalities with appropriate boundary conditions. The novel feature of these inequalities lies in the choice of the Hamiltonian.

Abstract: The Baxter number can be written as $B_n = \sum_0^n \Theta_{k,n-k-1}$. These numbers have first appeared in the enumeration of so-called Baxter permutations; $B_n$ is the number of Baxter permutations of size $n$, and $\Theta_{k,l}$ is the number of Baxter permutations with $k$ descents and $l$ rises. With a series of bijections we identify several families of combinatorial objects counted by the numbers $\Theta_{k,l}$. Apart from Baxter permutations, these include plane bipolar orientations with $k+2$ vertices and $l+2$ faces, 2-orientations of planar quadrangulations with $k+2$ white and $l+2$ black vertices, certain pairs of binary trees with $k+1$ left and $l+1$ right leaves, and a family of triples of non-intersecting lattice paths. This last family allows us to determine the value of $\Theta_{k,l}$ as an application of the lemma of Gessel and Viennot. Abstract: In this paper, we study the covering theory of laura algebras. We prove that if a connected laura algebra is standard (that is, it is not quasi-tilted of canonical type and its connecting components are standard), then this algebra has nice Galois coverings associated to the coverings of the connecting component. As a consequence, we show that the first Hochschild cohomology group of a standard laura algebra vanishes if and only if it has no proper Galois coverings., The main result on the non-standard case was reformulated due to an inaccuracy in the previous version. Abstract: Article soumis pour publication; International audience; The Keller-Segel system describes the collective motion of cells that are attracted by a chemical substance and are able to emit it. In its simplest form, it is a conservative drift-diffusion equation for the cell density coupled to an elliptic equation for the chemo-attractant concentration. This paper deals with the rate of convergence towards a unique stationary state in self-similar variables, which describes the intermediate asymptotics of the solutions in the original variables. Although it is known that solutions globally exist for any mass less $8\pi\,$, a smaller mass condition is needed in our approach for proving an exponential rate of convergence in self-similar~variables.

Abstract: Existing CPV Technology Markets are not compliant with a standard configuration [1]. Concentrations vary from several suns to more than 1000 suns and the optical technology used could be very different. Nowadays, the market trends are moving toward more and more compact optical systems [2] in order to exploit the Light Emitting Diodes like approach [3]. The aim is to increase the optical efficiency by using an ultra-short focal distance and to have a better thermal management. Moreover the ratio between the efficiency and the weight is increasing and the solar cell size becomes sub-millimetric. Then, more severe mechanical tolerances are essential to keep an optimum optical alignment between the cells and the optics. A new process of micro-concentrator manufacturing is patented [4] and developed at CEA CPV laboratory. Abstract: The inverter in a photovoltaic system assures two essential functions. The first is to track the maximum power point of the system IV curve throughout variable environmental conditions. The second is to convert DC power delivered by the PV panels into AC power. Nowadays, in order to qualify inverters, manufacturers and certifying organisms use mainly European and/or CEC efficiency standards. The question arises if these are still representative of CPV system behaviour. We propose to use a set of CPV – specific weighted average and a representative dynamic response to have a better determination of the static and dynamic MPPT efficiencies. Four string-sized commercial inverters used in real CPV plants have been tested.

Abstract: The optical characterization and electrical performance evaluation are essential in the design and optimization of a concentrator photovoltaic system. The geometry, materials, and size of concentrator optics are diverse and different environmental conditions impact their performance. CEA has developed a new concentrator photovoltaic system characterization bench, METHOD, which enables multi-physics optimization studies. The lens and cell temperatures are controlled independently with the METHOD to study their isolated effects on the electrical and optical performance of the system. These influences can be studied in terms of their effect on optical efficiency, focal distance, spectral sensitivity, electrical efficiency, or cell current matching. Furthermore, the irradiance map of a concentrator optic can be mapped to study its variations versus the focal length or the lens temperature. The present work shows this application to analyze the performance of a Fresnel lens linking temperature to optical and electrical performance.

Abstract: Concentrator solar cell front-grid metallizations are designed so that the trade-off between series resistance and shading factor (SF) is optimized for a particular irradiance. High concentrator photovoltaics (CPV) typically requires a metallic electrode pattern that covers up to 10% of the cell surface. The shading effect produced by this front electrode results in a significant reduction in short-circuit current (I SC) and hence, in a significant efficiency loss. In this work we present a cover glass (originally meant to protect the cell surface) that is laser-grooved with a micrometric pattern that redirects the incident solar light towards interfinger regions and away from the metallic electrodes, where they would be wasted in terms of photovoltaic generation. Quantum efficiency (QE) and current (I)-voltage (V) characterization under concentration validate the proof-of-concept, showing great potential for CPV applications

Abstract: Multijunction solar cells (MJSC) use anti-reflective coatings (ARC) to minimize Fresnel reflection losses for a family of light incidence angles. These coatings adapt the refractive index of the cell to that of the surrounding medium. Patterns with sizes in the range of the light wavelength can be used to further reduce reflections through diffraction. Transparent nanopatterns with a gradual profile, called moth-eye nanostructures, can adapt the refractive index of the optical interfaces (often with n∼1.5) used to encapsulate concentrator solar cells to that of the air (n air∼1). Here we show the effect of a nanometric moth-eye ARC with a round motif deposited on commercial MJSC that achieves short-circuit current (I SC) gains greater than 2% at normal incidence and even higher in the case of tilted illumination. In this work, MJSC with different moth-eye ARC are characterized under quantum efficiency (QE) as well as under concentrated illumination I-V in order to assess their potential. Simulations based on coupled wave analysis (RCWA) are used to fit the experimental results with successful results.

Abstract: In the frame of the European project SOPHIA, a spectral network based on component (also called isotypes) cells has been created. Among the members of this project, several spectral sensors based on component cells and collimating tubes, so-called spectroheliometers, were installed in the last years, allowing the collection of minute-resolution spectral data useful for CPV systems characterization across Europe. The use of spectroheliometers has been proved useful to establish the necessary spectral conditions to perform power rating of CPV modules and systems. If enough data in a given period of time is collected, ideally a year, it is possible to characterize spectrally the place where measurements are taken, in the same way that hours of annual irradiation can be estimated using a pyrheliometer.

Abstract: International audience; Organic photovoltaic cells (OPVCs) are based on a heterojunction electron donor (ED)/electron acceptor (EA). In the present work, the electron donor which is also the absorber of light is pentathiophene.The typical cells were ITO/ABL/Pentathiophene/fullerene /Alq3/Al with ABL = MoO3, CuI, MoO3/CuI. After optimisation of the pentathiophene thickness, 70 nm, the highest efficiency, 0.81%, is obtained with the bilayer MoO3/CuI as ABL. In order to understand these results the pentathiophene films deposited onto the different ABLs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-rays diffraction, optical absorption and electrical characterization. It is shown that CuI improves the conductivity of the pentathiophene layer through the modification of the film structure, while MoO3 decreases the leakage current. Using the bilayer MoO3/CuI allows cumulating the advantages of each layer.

Abstract: International audience; A new branched sexithienylene vinylene oligomer, (E)-bis-1,2-(5,5″-dimethyl-(2,2′:3′,2″-terthiophene)vinylene (BSTV), was synthesized, characterized, and used as the electron donor in a planar heterojunction organic photovoltaic cell (OPVC). The OPVC utilized fullerene (C60) as the electron acceptor, ITO-coated glass as the anode, and aluminum as the cathode. Hybrid electrode buffer layers of MoO3/CuI on the anode side and of Alq3/Ca on the cathode side were used. This shows the effectiveness of the bilayer Alq3/Ca as a cathode buffer layer. The thickness of the Ca layer and its effect on the performance and lifetime of the OPVCs were studied. It was found that an Alq3/Ca structure with 6 nm of Alq3and 3 nm of Ca has an efficiency (η) of 2.28%, while a device without Ca has an efficiency of only 1.47%. Combining an optimized thickness of the new donor BSTV (22 nm) together with the bilayer cathode buffer layer, a device having an open-circuit voltage,Vocof 0.84 V, a short-circuit current,Jscof 3.60 mA cm−2, and a fill factor, FF of 50% was achieved. However, the efficiency of the OPV with Ca decreases rapidly during the first hours of air exposure, resulting in device performance that is similar to a device fabricated without Ca. After this initial degradation, device performance for both types of OPV evolves similarly with continued air exposure.

Abstract: The SunCycle CPV system [1] uses two rotating optical stages in order to avoid the need of external sun-tracking while producing a geometrical concentration ratio of 870X. In the European FP7 project CPV4ALL dedicated to demonstrate commercially this system, CEA has developed a complete ray-tracing modeling and has carried out module indoor measurements. The system optical performance was simulated through a spring equinox in Marseille (France). The angular transmission is estimated and evaluated at 0.9°. Furthermore, angular tolerance to chassis misalignments and mirror and prism rotation angles are investigated. The Peak to Average Ratio of the irradiance map of the top and middle sub-cells is estimated for the photogenerated current, which is a value acceptable for such CPV system.

Our work is built upon a recent reactive pattern generator that make use of Model Predictive Control (MPC) to modify footsteps, center of mass and center of pressure trajectories to track a reference velocity. The contribution of the paper is to formulate the MPC problem considering visual feedback. We compare our approach with a scheme decoupling visual servoing and walking gait generation. Such a decoupled scheme consists in first, computing a reference velocity from visual servoing; then, the reference velocity is the input of the pattern generator. Our MPC based approach allows to avoid a number of limitations that appears in decoupled methods. In particular visual constraints can be introduced directly inside the locomotion controller, while camera motions do not have to be accounted for separately. Both approaches are compared numerically and validated in simulation. Our MPC method shows a faster convergence.

Abstract: Over the past few years, simulating crowds in virtual environments has become an important tool to give life to virtual scenes; be it movies, games, training applications, etc. An important part of crowd simulation is the way that people move from one place to another. This paper concentrates on improving the crowd patches approach proposed by Yersin et al. [Yersin et al. 2009] that aims on efficiently animating ambient crowds in a scene. This method is based on the construction of animation blocks (called patches) concatenated together under some constraints to create larger and richer animations with limited run-time cost. Specifically, an optimization based approach to generate smooth collision free trajectories for crowd patches is proposed. The contributions of this work to the crowd patches framework are threefold; firstly a method to match the end points of trajectories based on the Gale-Shapley algorithm [Gale and Shapley 1962] is proposed that takes into account preferred velocities and space coverage, secondly an improved algorithm for collision avoidance is proposed that gives natural appearance to trajectories and finally a cubic spline approach is used to smooth out generated trajectories. We demonstrate several examples of patches and how they were improved by the proposed method, some limitations and directions for future improvements.

Abstract: The stability of liquid crystal phases in presence of small amount of non-mesogenic impurities is of general interest for a large spectrum of technological applications and in the theories of binary mixtures. Starting from the known phase diagram of the hard ellipsoids systems, we propose a simple model and method to explore the stability of the nematic phase in presence of small impurities represented by hard spheres. The study is performed in the isobaric ensemble with Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract: This paper presents an optical performance analysis of a novel concentrator with integrated tracking developed by Suncycle. This system uses 2 optical stages that rotate independently to track the sun with a geometrical concentration factor of 870X. A Fresnel prism and a concentrator mirror associated to a refractive secondary optics enable to define a 25% efficiency target. This analysis is carried out using ray tracing Monte-Carlo simulations, providing irradiance and angular distribution maps as well as optical efficiency estimations for each optical stage. This study allows evaluating and defining specifications for each of the optical components of this novel tracking-integrated concentrator.
