EXECUTIVE ability (Management) , *DIGITAL transformation , *ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *DIGITAL technology , *ENVIRONMENTAL ethics - Abstract
What competencies are essential for a 21st-century executive? Are we sufficiently preparing our leadership for the relentless challenges and perpetual transformations characteristic of the digital and globalized epoch? (Levy, 2007). Business schools are progressively shifting their focus towards leadership and personal development, recognizing the paramount importance of these proficiencies. However, does this emphasis prove adequate? Undoubtedly, the exigencies posed by the contemporary era are subjecting the managerial skill set to scrutiny, not merely due to the intricate orchestration of personnel (Pérez, 2018), who increasingly articulate a demand for personal gratification in their professional pursuits, but also considering the rapidity of metamorphoses (Tapscott, 1995), and the imperative to make decisions concomitant with such promptness. The ultimate inquiry is whether current leaders possess the ethical fortitude to adapt to these disruptive changes (Echevarría, 2008), or if we are indeed confronting an insurmountable utopia, thrust into a new era dictated by artificial intelligence, where pragmatic logic eclipses matter of the heart. STATISTICAL hypothesis testing , *SELF-efficacy in students , *STATISTICS , *QUANTITATIVE research , *ACQUISITION of data - Abstract
The aim of this paper is to describe academic self-efficacy in students of technical-professional training at a university in the south of Chile. Numerous studies have established that, in order to have autonomous and self-regulated students, it is necessary for them to be academically self-efficient and the literature shows that the teacher with a self-efficient teaching identity promotes this type of competences in the students. The research is ascribed within the positivist paradigm, with a quantitative research approach that seeks objectivity, describing, explaining, proving and/or predicting phenomena, using data collection with the purpose of testing hypotheses through statistical analysis. The design is non-experimental, since it is carried out without manipulating the variables and the situations are not intentionally provoked. Additionally, it is of a cross-sectional nature, since the data are collected at a single moment of the research, to analyze the relationship at a given time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In today's digitized world, digital competences are required to facilitate the transition to the Internet. For professorship, these competences go beyond knowledge of a particular subject. They focus on the skills needed to transmit that knowledge to students. A quantitative approach study was applied. The design was non-experimental and descriptive. The population and sample correspond to the 70 teachers who worked in the Faculty of Humanistic and Social Sciences during the first semester of 2023. The instrument for data collection was a teaching self-assessment. The competencies in digital citizenship showed the highest levels of teacher mastery with a value of 5. The competencies in pedagogy and professional development showed a value of 4. 93% of UTM-CHS teachers stated they had participated in training activities on the use of ICT in education. In conclusion, university faculty in Ecuador must have a stronger digital academic background; they must establish better pedagogical and professional development skills, research capacity, knowledge of educational technologies, intercultural skills and leadership skills. To ensure a high-quality learning environment all three areas must be at the same level of outcomes. For that, university professional development leads to establishing good pedagogy. Then pedagogy is strengthened through digital citizenship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Education for sustainable development (ESD) is a key enabler for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, it is crucial that ESD be provided with firm theoretical foundations. In this contribution, we use pragmatism, especially that of John Dewey, to combine education, problem solving, and democracy. Our goal in this paper is to assess the experience of students in two different ESD settings at the University of Erfurt, in both of which students conduct real-world projects with extramural partners. Using a whole institution approach, our research surveys the perspective of different stakeholders (students, teachers, and extramural partners) with the aim of understanding which conditions favor successful ESD in higher education. In the empirical part, we describe the collection and analysis of data from students' experiences. Drawing on it and referring to theoretical concepts, we identify some conditions for successful ESD in higher education contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The public availability of Large Language Models (LLMs) launched an epochal revolution, requiring that educational and training courses be redefined as person-centered. The authors explore the educational challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through epistemologically complex questions regarding control, bias, necessary skills, and teamwork. The responses pose contradictions that underscore the importance of critical thought in addressing the complexity of education today. In conclusion, they propose educating for AI literacy by using it as a metacognition tool to reinforce critical thinking, awareness, and thinking systemically. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GENERATING functions , *HIGHER education , *PROBLEM-based learning , *TEACHERS - Abstract
Despite being widely applied, the implementation of problem-based/project-based learning (PBL) activities still poses several challenges. Activity design and evaluation and monitoring processes stand out as the most complex aspects of the methodology. This study provides support for teachers to improve PBL assessment and monitoring systems in the scientific and technical field. To do this, the evaluation and monitoring tools used in the most representative PBL activities at different levels of higher education were collected. These were then integrated to generate new, more complete tools (three rubrics and two evaluation scales). These tools were then appli0ed to PBL activities, and the teachers involved (n=11) assessed their view of their functioning. The results indicate that the participating teachers perceived that the tools generated in this way functioned better than the ones used originally, highlighting their completeness, adaptability and ease of use. The study suggests that support in the design of tools could lead to improvements in the process of monitoring and evaluating PBL activities by making them more agile, objective, systematic and efficient. Emotional competencies have become a powerful tool for use in counselling practice that pursues high quality standards. Thus, counselling professionals are increasingly aware that emotions play an essential role within their practice. For this reason, the present study strives to identify perspectives of school counsellors working in the autonomous community of Galicia regarding the utility of emotional competencies in their day-to-day practice. A descriptive, non-experimental and quantitative study was conducted. A Likert scale was used to gather information as this tool enables specific and clear data to be collected quickly in order to provide a more complete description of the state of the issue. The quantitative data gathered provides valuable information pertaining to the most effective and useful emotional competencies for use in counselling practice and, therefore, favours efficient assessment of wellbeing. The current requirements of the professional training show a change in the process of teaching-learning and the need to have methodological tools in accordance to the 21st century skills. Within the constructivist model of learning, model adopted by the University of Atacama, one of the techniques applied for professional training is the project based approach, mainly for its didactic, applied and experiential characteristic. The results from an analysis of coherence between the formative proposal of the Social Work program from the University of Atacama are shown in this article. Specifically in the professional practice and the Project Based Learning approach which has been developing since 2019. Through a documental and scientific revision, the theoretical-conceptual components which ground a virtuous relation between the processes of professional practices and the project based approach are sought to acknowledge. A tacit coherence which enhances the formative propose of the program, which are the three elements that are overlapped in the development of the professional practice is evident. The elements are: graduate profile, with a transformative counseling; the PBL approach, part of the active methodologies; and the professional practice instance, as a final instance of the program. However, it is necessary for this encounter to be crossed by a clear and permanent intentionality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EMPLOYABILITY , *SOCIAL skills , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *ACADEMIC motivation , *LABOR supply , *LABOR demand - Abstract
The study of employability aims to analyze the skills developed by students and their relevance for obtaining a job. It is about reducing imbalances between labor supply and demand. Carrying out internships in companies has proven to be an important factor in improving employability, because it improves the capabilities of university graduates. This paper has analyzed the role of internships in improving student skills and, consequently, their role in the employability of graduates. For doing the analysis, a questionnaire has been prepared, based on the four employability dimensions derived from the theoretical analysis, which includes ítems referring to: instrumental and interpersonal skills, as well as those related to motivation and the adequacy of the internships to the student’s university training. The questionnaire has been sent to 580 Business Administration and Management (ADE) students at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEE) at the University of Barcelona (UB). A Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was carried out with the results of the survey. The model obtained divided the employability into the four factors previously defined according to the theory: two kind of competences, instrumental competences and interpersonal competences, student’s motivation and the adequacy of the practices. Additionally, the model shows the existence of gender differences related to the motivation of students in carrying out the internships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this document is to identify the configuration of the evaluative competence of learning of students in teacher training within the framework of a bachelor's program structured from a focus on competences. A descriptive qualitative methodology has been used, based on the application of a questionnaire and observation. The study subjects were 20 first semester students of the Bachelor's degree in mathematics teaching within the framework of the subject Educational Legislation and Policies. The results reflect that the participating population identifies and understands the meaning and importance of learning evaluation, but their behaviors and manifestations are not congruent with that thought, therefore, it is identified that the learning evaluation competence has not been consolidated as a teaching competence. during student training. We conclude that despite the diversity of opinions on the effectiveness of the focus on competencies as a curricular axis, it continues to be valid in the curriculum of many higher education institutions in Mexico. Likewise, we consider that the approach favors the implementation of educational proposals for teacher training. In which, among other competences, the evaluative competence of learning is promoted. The competency-based curricular design allows Higher Education institutions to establish academic programs focused on the development of specific knowledge and capabilities. The objective of this research is to analyze the existing literature on the application of curricular design by competencies in Higher Education during the period 2019 to 2023. From this perspective, the PRISMA systematic review method was used, selecting 30 studies that met specific inclusion criteria. This made possible the synthesis of the evidence related to academic literature through the review of selected studies. The review was restricted to research in English focused on the development of competency-based curricular design in the field of Higher Education. Additionally, studies that did not specifically address these issues were excluded. The search was carried out in three academic databases: ERIC, Scopus and SciELO. The results of the systematic review provided insights into emerging patterns and trends in this field. It is concluded that this design promotes flexibility and adaptability in academic training, which enables institutions to respond to the changing demands of the labour market and society, thus ensuring relevant and updated education. Mechanization is of great relevance in the development of the agricultural sector, as a tool that facilitates agricultural activities with quality and speed and a significant increase in the productivity and competitiveness of this sector, in the case of the province of Manabí in Ecuador this aspect becomes more relevant because this sector has a substantial weight in its economic and social life. The objective of the research was to carry out a diagnosis of agricultural mechanization competencies in the cantons of the central zone of Manabí. The methodology used consisted of several stages, which made it possible to evaluate the factors that characterize the competencies of agricultural mechanization in the area under study: human factor, machinery, operating conditions and infrastructure and financing. For the collection of information, surveys based on the factors under analysis were prepared and applied to agricultural producers and owners/entrepreneurs who provide mechanization services in the central zone of Manabí. The results of the diagnosis in the selected sample show that only 41% of the agricultural activities are being carried out with the use of agricultural machinery and that 20% of the producers have their own means to carry out agricultural activities, among other relevant aspects. As a whole, the results allowed concluding that the agricultural mechanization skills in the central zone of the province of Manabí present undesirable low levels that limit its productivity. In talent management, predicting high potential (HP) is one of the most important questions human resources professionals face. The main goal of this study was to analyze which competences predict employees' HP and whether these competences differ by gender. The study analyzed 806 employees in the Spanish branch of a multinational service firm that employs over 6,000 employees. Participants, were classified as HP using a questionnaire about eight competences identified as key to the firm's talent management (TM) and divided into two categories: cognitive-intrapersonal and emotional-interpersonal, and assessment interviews of supervisors. Results indicate that the competences in the cognitive-intrapersonal category contribute greater weight in predicting HP. More specifically, competences of Initiative, Appetite for learning, and Thinking beyond boundaries were significantly related to the HP criterion. The competences that were significant by gender were also analyzed. Application of these results, as well as the study's limitations and recommendations for future research, are discussed.

TEACHERS - Abstract
Changing the requirements of a modern teacher naturally leads to a change in the expected results, objectives, approaches and procedures for the development of professional skills of teachers. The innovative transformations of almost all the components of the educational system, including the vocational training of future specialists, constitute the basis of its modernization today. The purpose of the study is the particularities of the training of cross-cutting skills among future teachers in the context of pedagogical practice in the event of a pandemic. For this, a number of methods have been applied which make up the research methodology, such as analysis and synthesis of systems, induction and deduction, comparison, classification, generalization and systematization, idealization and abstraction. Professional and educational competence in the area of educational practice is determined by the teacher's set of skills in a particular way to structure scientific and practical knowledge in order to effectively solve educational problems. Personal knowledge in this case is the result of developed skills and orientations, influencing the perception of pedagogical phenomena, situations, as well as the means of transforming them from a scientific point of view. As a result of the analysis, the main aspects and characteristics of the training of transversal skills among future teachers in the context of pedagogical practice in the event of a pandemic have been identified. - Abstract
Health managers are the main leaders in health institutions' processes and, therefore, require qualification. The goal of the present study is to identify the essential competences for health management in Porto Alegre/RS. As methodological procedure, this study has a qualitative and exploratory approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with superintendents of the Associação Hospital Moinhos de Vento, well-known for its standardization and quality. After the interviews, content analysis was used to analyze speeches. Results revealed that competencies which were brought up most frequently included leadership and coordination - associated with being a role model, an inspiration and a motivator, in addition to being identified as genuine, and correlated with delegation; and technical knowledge - associated with day-to-day learning and education, management learning, work process ownership, length of service in the institution and bond with the team. As a conclusion, it was observed that participants brought up the axes of knowledge, skills and attitudes in uncategorized form, that there was some overlap between attitudinal competencies and values, and that attitudinal competencies are the most important ones in upper management levels. Competency-based management has acquired special relevance in the last decades, due to the role played by labor competencies as the dynamizing axis of the key processes of human resources management. This article tackles the development of a research carried out in the Pinar del Río Fishing Enterprise PESCARIO, with the purpose of proposing a procedure for the determination of positions profiles by competencies that will contribute to a better management of human resources in the entity. The historical-logical theoretical method was used with the support of the documentary analysis technique, mainly in the study of different technologies for the determination of competencies that served as theoretical-methodological referents, which allowed determining their main contributions and limitations as a basis for the proposal made. As a result of the work, a procedure was designed that establishes the stages and steps for the determination of positions profiles by competencies in the entity under study, which will constitute the guide to determine the competencies, requirements, functions, working conditions and responsibilities inherent and required to an occupation or position, as well as express the relationship of the strategic objectives and goals with the capabilities to be developed by the personnel of the organization. HISTORY of education , *TEACHING methods , *SOCIAL skills , *PRIMARY education , *SENTIMENT analysis , *METACOGNITION ,SPANISH history - Abstract
The development of students' competences is one of the central focuses of our current educational system. There is an obvious need to provide society with resources and skills that allow them to cope with the demands of academic, working and social contexts with fluency and efficiency. This need is channelled through teaching methods that facilitate the development of competences and make educational processes more dynamic. The objective of this study is to know the perception of students, who are studying the Degree in Teaching in Infant Education and the Degree in Teaching in Primary Education (N=95), about their competence development through a gamified educational experience. For this purpose, a qualitative analysis of the opinions collected in learning diaries is carried out through the grounded theory. The study shows that gamification is effective for the acquisition and development of specific and transversal competences related to the history of Spanish education, among which communication and social skills, teamwork and time management skills stand out. The conclusions indicate this gamified experience is an example of a conscious education, which respects the learning rhythms of the students, encourages metacognition and promotes their involvement in the construction of their own knowledge. This study analyses an initiative in the city of Ceuta to use life coaching to improve the skills, motivation, resilience and socio-emotional capacity of basic vocational training students specialising in hair and beauty training. Students at this level demonstrate low motivation and a high rate of absenteeism. To improve their psycho-social profile and offer them a greater chance of joining the workforce, an initiative has been designed based on their psycho-social, educational and employment profiles, using life coaching as an intervention methodology. The study uses a quasi-experimental design, with pre-test and post-test, in a sample of 25 students studying the basic course in professional Hair and Beauty training. To establish inter-group and intra-group differences, Student's t-test was used for independent and related samples; and to analyse the relationship of the constructs with each other, Pearson's bivariate correlation was used. The results demonstrate the success of the initiative, highlighting the improvement in transversal skills, self-acceptance and level of motivation, which are fundamental elements for basic vocational training students to join the workforce. MATHEMATICS teachers , *MATHEMATICS education , *APPLIED mathematics , *TEACHERS , *RESEARCH & development - Abstract
Currently, the use of ICTs is a very useful resource for education, making possible more didactic pedagogical processes that enable the review and self-regulation of student learning. However, these new conceptions of the educational process incorporate technological and pedagogical options, which may constitute a barrier for those teachers who do not have the necessary competences for their assimilation; namely, training, and technological skills to assume the teaching of classes. The objective of the research is to propose activities to enhance the competencies related to the mastery of ICTs by the teachers of the subject of Mathematics of the Higher Basic Sublevel of the Galileo Galilei Educational Unit. This institution has 64 teachers and 6 of them teach mathematics. For the development of the research, unstructured interviews were applied to 100% of the mathematics teachers in order to determine the deficiencies related to the subject and a structured questionnaire with closed questions which makes it possible to corroborate if the characteristics of the activities contribute to enhance the competences in relation to the mastery of Tics in the teachers of this institution, as well as the feasibility of its application. As a result, by applying group work techniques, a proposal of activities for the mastery of ICT competences in Mathematics teachers is obtained, technically based, and considered by the teachers themselves as contextualized, continuous, with an integrating character, with a holistic and systemic conception and possessing rationality and applicability. Reflective practices provide a supportive base through which preservice infant and early childhood teachers and allied professionals can achieve knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions to support young children and their families. This paper is a program description that describes the rationale for infusing reflective practices into the learning goals for preservice early childhood training, highlighting the specific reflection skills from the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Competency Guidelines. We describe how one university early childhood training program promotes student reflection skills referencing three distinct perspectives: (1) why reflection is essential to developing knowledge and skills; (2) the role group reflection plays in sustaining deep knowledge and skill development for students and faculty; (3) how faculty promote students' awareness of the connection between personal experience and professional dispositions through reflection during practicum experiences. The benefits and challenges of embedding reflective practices in preservice early childhood training are also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to determine the degree to which generic teaching competences (instrumental, interpersonal and systemic) are developed on an Education degree course, the importance given to them by students, and which subjects develop them most. An electronic questionnaire based on teaching competences was developed in accordance with the Tuning Project. It was validated by experts and showed appropriate internal consistency. The sample consisted of 285 of the 956 students on Education degrees at the University of Girona. The results revealed that students always rated the importance given to the various competences higher than the extent to which they are developed. Interpersonal competences are the ones most valued, while instrumental ones are the least valued. Teamwork is the most developed competence, while the ability to work in an international context is the least. Competences were found to be developed most in Teaching Practice and the Final Project, among other subjects. The speciality of Early Childhood Education presented the most significant relationships and was the speciality that most valued the importance of competences and the extent to which they are developed. It was concluded that there is a need to give greater importance to generic competences in the teacher training process and to further develop international competences together with knowledge of other countries' cultures and customs. Designing and developing training processes that start from the analysis of contextualized problems is the purpose of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), an interesting methodology in Engineering careers to achieve meaningful learning. The general purpose of this article was to present the implementation of the PBL in the Resist ance of Materials subject in the Civil Engineering degree at the University of Valparaíso, in three different years. This was a strategy to evaluate and provide feedback on learning results regarding specific and generic competences, in their first level of mastery. The results revealed that this methodology had strengths and weaknesses regarding the level of achievement in team work-related transversal competences, self-regulation, and communication. Also, there was a rise in engineering competencies such as the application of tools for the analysis of a problem. The perception of the students regarding learning gains was also analysed and contrasted with their academic results. This provided feedback on students' performance which the permanent curricular committee of the degree can use to make decisions and carry out macro or micro curricular adjustments. In general, improvements were reported for the formation of work teams, thus optimizing academic performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JOB skills , *EFFECT of technological innovations on labor supply , *HUMAN capital , *LABOR economics , *EVERYDAY life , *ETHNOLOGY research - Abstract
How are skills struggled over in occupations transforming through evolving technologies? This article contributes a feminist labor geography perspective amidst reinvigorated interest in skills. Within economic geography, human capital approaches view skills as resources measurable through quantitative proxies. Such analyses reveal place-based endowments and skills mismatches but, unable to capture lived experience or uneven power relations, overlook how skill facilitates agency for different workers. In contrast, we theorize skill as both processual—constantly unfolding and contested—and a mechanism unevenly empowering workers based on recognition (or lack thereof). Ethnographic research proceeded with workers employed by automotive shops, a context at the forefront of disruptive technologies. Two key roles underpin profitable operations. Technicians, overwhelmingly men, work individually from shop floors, diagnosing problems, repairing, and maintaining vehicles. Customer care staff, predominantly women, work in small teams from reception spaces, managing "car count" and mediating interactions between technicians and customers. In both roles, workers upskill to meet shifting service demands and retain brand-managed expertise. Yet, enduring and newly acquired skills are unevenly recognized and rewarded. Three factors fortified systemic barriers to progression: tasks extended and co-evolved unevenly with multi-skilled working bodies; gender-biased skills recognition favored technicians (skills with cars/deemed scarce) over customer service (skills of interactive translation/deemed replaceable); and workers positioned atop hierarchies refuted co-workers' skills claims within workplaces. For geographers concerned with the quality and fairness of work amidst evolving technological change, we argue that skill unveils the socio-spatial foundations of agency: materializing unevenly and struggled over in everyday life. This article analyses the position of the customary and traditional courts within the framework of the Statute of Autonomy of the Valencian Community, arguing their position as institutions of the Generalitat over which different statutory powers can be deployed. The work begins by contextualising the Valencian statutory text in the wording given by the reform introduced in 2006, followed by a comparative analysis with other statutes of autonomy, which allows us to conclude the relevance that the customary and traditional courts based in the Valencian Community have for the Generalitat and the margins for articulating mechanisms to guarantee their wider recognition and development. It then goes on to analyse the material spheres in which the political action of the Generalitat has been projected, identifying the jurisdictional titles most closely related to the function exercised by these courts, and shows the possibilities that still remain to be explored, formulating specific proposals for a more ambitious Valencian statutory development. The study concludes by formulating a proposal for statutory reform, with the aim of placing all the customary and traditional courts, three of the four of which are in the Valencian Community, on an equal footing, as well as the different possibilities for statutory development offered by the different jurisdictional titles involved. Introduction. Qualitative research study in the health area, from the perspective of community health and public health nursing, centered on a Group of Health Centers, with a focus on its Public Health Unit; Goals. To present competences and describe interventions by specialist nurses in community and public health nursing, in their context; Methods. Qualitative approach in case study modality, data collection through interviews, direct observation and document analysis, data processing carried out in the MAXQDA2020 software, and analysis using an interpretative data matrix, composed of two strategies and two techniques of analysis; Results. Despite not having the same relationship with all the competences put most of them into practice. They are aware that their interventions correspond to their competences, even though they are not involved with all of them in the same way. Nurses' practice takes the form of multifaceted interventions, which demonstrate their great availability for a variety of activities, the most relevant of which are epidemiological surveillance, including vaccination, management, and training of groups. Facilitates their performance good communication, well-defined functions, better facilities and working conditions. They are aware of the regulations from the Order of Nurses, but not so well the other norms to which they are subject too; Conclusions. Some challenges emerge from this investigation, with strong implications for the theory and practice of nursing, in particular for public health nursing: properly valuate these nurses, who should focus more on their activities/interventions, in order to value themselves; "to get out of the walls", to become known and recognized in the community; to be motivated for continuous training, to be able to intervene as a politically participating citizens. Microenterprises are the entities with the greatest presence in the business fabric of Ecuador, however their contribution to the generation of employment and wealth is low, which is a reality not only of the country but of the entire Latin American region. In the "La Maná" canton, Cotopaxi province, the presence of this type of business organizations is just as important, diagnosing in previous works the shortcomings in administrative management, especially in the accounting, tax and financial fields. The present research was aimed at making a methodological proposal to promote the administrative training of micro-enterprises in La Maná, for which theoretical research methods such as dialectical, systemic and modeling were used. The proposal is constituted by objective, principles and stages, with an integral and organic character, considering the participation of internal and external actors to the company. The implementation of said proposal will make it possible to increase the training of administrators and managers and, over time, improve the results of business management and increase their survival and competitiveness rates, as well as contribute to the socioeconomic development of the "La Maná" canton and the country. The changes occurring in the business environment, influenced by factors such as innovation, the development of information and communications, cultural values, the environment, among others, are essential elements when it comes to managing the training of human resources in an organization. These transformations require prepared personnel, capable of generating innovative and strategic solutions, hence it is interesting to analyze whether training really generates an impact and thus a change in performance at all organizational levels, establishing challenges that contribute to the strengthening of all the interests that converge in the organization. In this sense, the objective of this article is to identify the challenges to achieve superior results through the training process. Concluding that training should be considered the center of productive activity, that it is a process that should be managed in order to improve performance through the promotion and strengthening of competencies.
