In this paper we paper evaluate the effectiveness of eight sessions of cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) for treating obsessive morbid jealousy (OMJ), using a mixed-methods A/B with followup single-case design. Ideographic jealousy measures were collected throughout baseline (2 sessions), treatment (6 sessions) and follow-up phases (one session), creating a 160-day time series. Nomothetic measures were completed at assessment, end of treatment and at followup. A structured qualitative interview was completed. Significant reductions to idiographic jealousy measures occurred during the treatment phase, with these gains maintained over followup. The intensity of the jealousy shifted from moderate to mild and this change was attributed to CAT. Methodological issues and future directions for the treatment of OMJ are discussed. The fast-changing world of work has justified the need for contemporary, accessible and inclusive models of lifelong guidance, underpinned by principles of social justice and equity, that meet a range of needs, and have the ambition of leaving no one behind. While guidance provision is widely available across most education systems, guidance for the labour force is less accessible and often fragmented, varying in quality, scope, evidence-base and practice. For services to be fully effective adult and employment guidance practice must find ways to transfer knowledge and experiences of the daily practice of guidance, to advance professional learning and development, and ensure its assimilation into practice and policy for the benefit of clients. Drawing on qualitative data, this paper illustrates the role of praxis in informing a new model of employment guidance, the MEEG, and the challenges for adult guidance practice within activation-oriented public employment systems. People who are seeking asylum often have lived experience of their personal boundaries and human rights being violated. For this reason, it is especially important that we consider the impact of boundaries in therapeutic work with this population. This paper explores work with a woman with a severe trauma history who was seeking asylum in England. Examples of perceived boundary crossings in the therapeutic relationship are examined. Considerations for other clinicians working with asylum seekers are discussed. These include: addressing socio-political factors; being sensitive to cultural differences; the importance of supervision and reflective practice; the personal impact of such work; and using critical thinking and warmth to manage boundaries rather than rigidly following rules. The paper discusses the associations between adult attachment and OCD symptoms in light of current cognitive-behavioural theories of OCD. The role of attachment system in OCD has been increasingly recognised. The aim of this paper was to investigate and evidence for direct and indirect relations between attachment insecurities, obsessional beliefs and OCD symptoms. Data were collected from a sample of university students (N = 334) in a cross-sectional research design. Adjusting for age, sex, income, paternal education and maternal education, attachment anxiety and avoidance in combination with obsessional beliefs (responsibility/threat estimation, perfectionism/certainty and importance/control of thoughts) were regressed onto obssessionality using logistic regression analysis. One-way MANOVA comparisons of obsessionality and obsessive beliefs were run across four attachment styles. Finally, the affect regulation model of attachment theory was refined and tested in relation to OCD symptomatology. Attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance significantly contributed to severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. More specifically, respondents with fearful and preoccupied attachment styles reported greater scores on obsessive-compulsive symptomatology and obsessional beliefs. As a result of globalisation, automation and digitalisation, workers including those who are highly skilled, are facing worsening employment vulnerability and workforce disengagement. In this paper, we examine the career decision readiness of the unemployed and discouraged based on a nationally representative sample of 1621 highly skilled workers in Singapore. In addition to items measuring demographic, education, work, health and family characteristics, participants were administered measures of career decision state, vocational identity, and career self-management. The findings show that for highly skilled workers in the country, career decision-making readiness (in terms of career decision state and vocational identity) is related to career self-management, age, marital status, health, occupation, industry, and continuing education. In this paper, we present a framework to examine the kinds of careers that rural disadvantaged youth would like to know about in a career guidance intervention as also related findings from two different rural disadvantaged contexts in India. Differences across gender, age group, region, and participation/non-participation in youth programmes are also explored. The results validate the importance of comprehensive career needs assessment and provide specific directions for designing and adapting career guidance interventions for rural disadvantaged youth. Child abuse linked to faith or belief (CALFB) is not a recent phenomenon; nor specific to any given culture or faith. This paper presents current work which articulates counsellors' understanding, experience and training needs around CALFB. An online survey collected data from participants, 79 of whom identified themselves as counsellors. Seventy-nine per cent of these counsellors stated that they had heard of the term CALFB. Sixty-six per cent were confident that they understood the term. However, only 46% were confident they could identify indicators with 54% being 'confident' to respond. Just 34% of the counsellors had received specific training on CALFB. It is argued here that awareness raising and training around the issues of CALFB are important to include in counsellor training courses and also as Continuous Professional Development. This paper aims to examine the characteristics of students who withdrew from a university counselling service in northern Italy. Differences found in the socio-demographic characteristics of counselling completers and dropouts and in the scores obtained in questionnaires administered at the outset were analysed. Furthermore, in order to identify reasons for dropping out, a qualitative approach was also used. The results suggest that premature termination is not a unitary phenomenon and that dropouts are a heterogeneous group. It is important not to always consider dropouts as a negative outcome of university counselling services. This paper reports new evidence on students’ evaluation of a first-year induction experience programme and examines the relationship between gender and perceptions. The programme was provided to 610 business studies students at the University of Granada (Spain). The programme includes individual and group sessions providing psychosocial and instrumental support. Gender differences were investigated using nonparametric techniques. Structural equation models were used to test relationships between variables of overall satisfaction with the programme and its activities and the moderating effects of gender. The results obtained show that gender significantly influences enrolment and satisfaction with the programme and with the individual sessions. Satisfaction with group and individual activities is directly related to overall satisfaction with the programme. Many adolescents have hopes of college graduation, independent living, and satisfying careers. Career preparation is an important component that can facilitate these desires. However, many adolescents do not achieve these hopes in their desired timeframes due to interruptions, such as unplanned pregnancies. As illustrated by the Theory of Adolescent Sexual Decision-Making Influencing Teen Pregnancy (Weiss, 2012. Who will listen? Rural teen pregnancy reflections. Based on this theory, a Getting Plans Started (GPS) Timeline Tool (GPS Timeline©) was developed to help adolescents plan for future success by using a time perspective and, thereby, avoid interruptions. The purpose of this paper is to describe the GPS Tool©, how it might be used, and a study to determine the feasibility of using the GPS Tool©. Thirty adolescents found the tool easy to use and effective in helping them plan for the future. Their responses indicated almost unanimous desires for college graduation and independence with strong confidence in achieving their plans, but their responses also indicated a need for more effective planning to achieve their desired goals. To ensure close adherence to the contents of a family-based cognitive-behavioural programme, and maintain a high standard of quality in its implementation, it is important that practitioners’ attitudes and beliefs regarding family skills coincide with those of the programme. This paper describes and analyses (observed) potential changes in these beliefs, after training courses held prior to the application of a prevention programme for families: the Family Competence Programme. A questionnaire was devised to examine practitioners’ beliefs regarding family skills; and completed both before and after the training course. The results point to significant changes in family dynamics, realistic expectations and active listening. This paper explores the views of a group of career development practitioners undertaking a postgraduate qualification as a form of continuing professional development (CPD). It offers insights into how these practitioners perceive and view different forms of CPD. A case study methodology was adopted to gather examples of the CPD activities practitioners engaged in and the value placed on these in supporting the development of professional practice. Their views were synthesised to create a typology representing a differentiated model of CPD. The model proposes three types of CPD: operational, experiential and formal. Formal CPD is perceived as having the highest value in developing professional practice. The study supports a deeper understanding of how careers practitioners engage with and understand CPD. Offering counselling to students is increasingly considered as a key academic service. However, the reduction of resources allocated to Italian universities emphasises the need to assess the quality of interventions. This paper presents data reporting the effectiveness of a university counselling service. A sample of 45 undergraduate students completed a cognitive-relational intervention at a counselling service in a University in the North of Italy. The project focused on the development of reappraisal skills and problem-solving strategies to manage difficult situations. The results showed a significant pre and post-intervention reduction in self-reported psychopathological symptoms (measured with Symptoms Check List 90-Revised) as well as in general levels of distress (measured with Clinical Outcome in Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure). A significant increase in reappraisal levels, measured with the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, was observed, which is a focal element of the counselling intervention. This paper explores the extent to which students on a vocational postgraduate programme identify with characteristics and competences that define a professional career guidance and counselling practitioner. Literature suggests professionalism in careers work is characterised by a focus on the needs of the client with the practitioner in a facilitative role. Competences are often couched in developmental terms, with practitioners moving from inexperienced to experienced. Students identified the most valued characteristics as adherence to professional values and ethical standards with an emphasis on person-centred practice. They recognised that competence was a developmental process, characterising themselves as at an early stage on completion of their course. Supporting the client took precedence over issues such as advocating for the profession, supporting employers and social responsibility. The primary objective of this study was to explore perceptions of UK school counsellors of confidentiality and information sharing in therapeutic work with children and young people, using qualitative methods. The research design employed a two-stage process, using questionnaires and follow-up interviews, with a small, non-random sample of school counsellors. Paper-based questionnaires were used initially to identify themes and sub-themes from respondents (n=13), and were followed up with face-to-face, semi-structured interviews, with a convenience sub-sample (n=6). Counsellors reported a lack of awareness of information-sharing policies, largely assuming a legal duty to report child abuse. Maintaining confidentiality was seen as valuable, in order to protect the therapeutic alliance, despite disclosures of risky behaviour by some young clients. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This paper profiles the psychological well-being of students in their initial year of university. There were three aims: to measure the impact of arrival at university on the psychological well-being of first year students, to monitor (i.e. profile) the shape of psychological well-being across the first year, and to investigate how students manage their well-being in relation to the use of university counselling services. Data were collected on four occasions, with 84% of all first year students at a UK university (4,699 students) completing the questionnaire on at least one occasion. Psychological well-being was assessed using the GP-CORE, a general population form of the CORE-OM. Results show that greater strain is placed on well-being once students start university compared to levels preceding entry. This strain rises and falls across the year but does not return to pre-university levels. Items tapping depression and anxiety suggest that the first year of university is a time of heightened anxiety but not a particularly depressive time. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationships among life satisfaction, meaning in life and basic psychological need satisfaction. Participants were 384 college students. Balanced Measure of Psychological Needs Scale, Meaning in Life Questionnaire, Satisfaction with Life Scale and demographic information form were utilised for data collection. Data were analysed using mixture structural equation modelling approach. Results of the study indicated that fulfilling competence and autonomy need is indirectly related to life satisfaction through meaning in life. Additionally, need for relatedness and autonomy satisfaction and meaning in life is directly associated with life satisfaction. Findings suggest two latent profiles: (a) a high satisfied and meaningful group and (b) a low satisfied and low meaningful group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Worry is a phenomenon that is present in multiple psychopathologies. Given the widely accepted transdiagnostic role that worry plays in psychopathology, reliable measures for this construct are pivotal for clinical practice. The Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) is one of the most widely used and established measures of worry in both clinical and non-clinical populations and it is accepted as a highly reliable measure. The present study aimed to examine the factor structure and psychometric properties of the PSWQ for the Portuguese population. The total sample consisted of 428 participants, 256 from the community, and 172 from the clinical population. Employer attractiveness models need to include student-centric attributes related to the education-to-work transition. A four-factor Aspire model consisting of benefits, nature of work, employer value, and employer visibility was tested using structural equation modelling, with data collected from 2048 full-time college students from India over a period of five years. Behavioural insights were extracted using multivariate analysis of variance of Aspire factors across gender, programmes, course and graduating year. Prominent student-centric and employer-centric attributes that students find more attractive were identified. The sociodemographic and career-related characteristics of two types of youth who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) in Hong Kong were examined and compared: longer-term (≥5 months, n = 787) and transitional (<5 months, n = 3,939). After controlling for sociodemographic variables, multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that longer-term NEETs are more likely to be associated with risk factors such as taking a carer role, seclusion at home, involvement in deviant activities, having addiction or health problems; whereas higher educational attainment, identification of career interest and plans for future work/study/ training, and higher career adaptability appeared to be protective factors for NEETs and identifiers of transitional NEETs. Existing research on the effectiveness of career courses often lacks evidence on the comparative effects of different pedagogical formats. This study compared the effects of a flipped classroom approach to a traditional lecture-based approach for delivering a career course among Chinese undergraduate students. A longitudinal quasi-experimental field design was used to assess changes in the career outcomes between the flipped and non-flipped groups over three time points (pre-, post-, and two-month follow-up). Mixed-factorial ANOVAs showed the overall effects were stronger immediately post-course and at the two-month follow-up for the flipped approach, although both course designs decreased lack of career information and increased environmental exploration. The purpose of this research was to determine the effects of attachment styles and academic procrastination on subjective well-being in university students. In line with the causal research design, the sample consisted of 733 university students, 513 female and 220 male. The Subjective Well-Being Scale, the Academic Procrastination Scale, the Relationship Scales Questionnaire and a Personal Information Form were used for data collection. Data were subjected to path analysis. The findings from the study show that a preoccupied attachment style has a direct, positive effect on academic procrastination, while academic procrastination has a direct, negative effect on subjective well-being. The present study investigated the utility and validity of the Social Emotional Health Survey-Higher Education (SEHS-HE) among Turkish students (N = 345) in higher education. Confirmatory factor analysis found acceptable data-model fit statistics for a priori SEHS-HE latent measurement models and its second-order covitality latent construct. The covitality latent construct was associated with higher levels of mental wellbeing, higher academic achievement, and lower levels of psychological symptoms. Findings provided preliminary evidence supporting the use of the SEHS-HE to measure Turkish university students' social-emotional strengths. Research is needed to further evaluate how the SEHS-HE can be used to inform prevention and intervention services on university campuses that aim to improve students' social, emotional, and mental health and wellbeing. It is vital to foster children's ability to cooperate with others, communicate effectively, and exercise self-control. These competencies represent a set of transferrable skills required in many aspects of daily life and along any career path. In Hong Kong, a play-based training programme was launched to support parents to target these areas of social competence. The programme taught 414 parents to use group games that foster social skills development in children aged 4–5 years. Parents completed culturally-appropriate questionnaires before the programme started, one week after the programme ended, and three months after the programme ended. Self-compassion has been identified as a protective factor against body image concerns, but the relationship has not been explored in women in the menopausal transition, when body image perceptions may be particularly vulnerable. Women in the UK (N = 248) self-reported on levels of body appreciation, body preoccupation, self-compassion and mental distress. Correlation and mediation analyses were used. Results indicated that self-compassion was positively associated with body appreciation and negatively associated with body preoccupation. Mental distress mediated the relationships between self-compassion and body appreciation, and self-compassion and body preoccupation. Findings suggest that self-compassion is important to body image in women in the menopausal transition, and having good mental health can enhance these pathways. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of this study was to explore the associations between character strengths and internalising and externalising problems. One thousand, one hundred thirty-eight adolescents, completed the 96-item VIA Inventory of Strengths for Youth, Youth Self Report, and Brief Symptom Inventory. Using latent class analysis, we extracted six latent groups: (1) Externalising and Internalising Problems (EIP; 11.1%), (2) Internalising Problems (IP; 15.6%), (3) Externalising Problems (EP; 12.5%), (4) At-risk for Externalising Problems (R-EP; 16.1%), (5) At-risk for Internalising Problems (R-IP; 27.3%) and (6) Healthy Subjects (H-S; 17.5%). General linear models on the BSI scores showed that those in EIP reported the most severe symptoms on all the BSI scales and those in H-S had the lowest scores. We describe the implementation of psychotherapeutic weight loss groups involving an intuitive eating approach, carried out within a deprived area with a highly diverse population. Challenges to implementation were identified through thematic analysis of data from the group facilitators' reflexive practice meetings. These challenges included: attending to power processes related to culture and gender, respecting cultural norms around familial eating and ideal weight, acknowledging group participants' stress, and accommodating group participants' employment and caring responsibilities. We offer some practice recommendations, highlighting facilitators' adoption of the non-expert stance, and explicit acknowledgement of differences as well as commonalities. We argue for the need for sensitively tailored psychotherapeutic interventions for weight loss when working with differences among diverse populations in deprived areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Psychological difficulties among young people are common. Various initiatives are being proposed in schools, yet no evidence-based data is available on how to address family difficulties (the most prevalent issues in school-based counselling). The current study examined the use of a two-component intervention based on the principles of Perceptual Control Theory (PCT). One is Method of Levels therapy (MOL) and the other is a parent–child activity (Shared Goals). Young people were invited to choose how often to engage in both MOL and the Shared Goals activity as well as the topics discussed during sessions for four months. A new form of narrative counselling for adolescents at risk of exclusion was piloted in 3 schools with 11 students between the ages of 13–14 years over a 6–7-week period. The intervention took into consideration that compared to adults, adolescents are more susceptible to being influenced by their immediate surroundings of home and school. A measure of progress on a student engagement scale showed an improvement in educational engagement, particularly in students' behavioural engagement in class. The process of narrative counselling adolescents at school is described and the issues addressed in the narrative counselling sessions are discussed. Finally, the inclusive ethos of the secondary schools that the counsellors worked in are considered, as they facilitated or hindered the counselling intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we examined the psychometric properties of the Cyberbullying Inventory (CBI) for University Students. There were 635 Turkish university students (57.48% females) in the pilot data set. The results showed that the pilot data set confirmed the proposed factor structure for CBI for University Students with some modifications. The final form of CBI for University Students was cross-validated with a second data set, composed of 1281 Turkish university students (52.54% females). Confirmatory factor analyses revealed adequate fit to the data, the internal consistency coefficients showed good internal consistencies, and evidence for convergent validity was obtained. Therefore, CBI for University Students with 11 items is a valid and reliable assessment instrument that can be used by researchers, counsellors and other mental health practitioners. Within the context of psychological counsellors and therapeutic encounters of psychotherapists, clients may reveal illicit fantasies where it is unclear whether he or she is acting out his or her illicit fantasies. Using web-based survey methods to collect qualitative data, I explored therapists' decision-making when clients disclose illicit fantasies in such circumstances. Data analysed thematically revealed that most therapists were confident in asking direct questions about illicit fantasies. However, therapists working in private practice appeared to be less likely to estimate risk or "dangerousness" objectively than therapists working in the NHS were. The job demands-resource model of work engagement describes how engagement is influenced by various work demands, and the work-related and personal resources of employees. We studied the role of organisational climate, organisational justice and psychological capital of employees in explaining work engagement. At the outset, 212 full-time adults employed at an organisation in Mumbai, India, for at least a year completed a questionnaire which included relevant scales. Organisations from which the sample was drawn represented three types of work sectors. Multiple regression was used with a reduced sample of 195 employees after removing 17 outliers. Results indicated that all three predictor variables explained work engagement significantly with psychological capital as the strongest predictor of work engagement, followed by organisational justice and organisational climate. This study investigates the relationship between career decision-making self-efficacy (CDMSE) and parental attachment, dysfunctional career thoughts, and career exploration in a sample of 170 Lebanese Grade 11 students drawn from 10 private schools that provide career guidance services. The following tools were used to assess the variables: Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale – short form (CDMSE-SF), the Parent and Peer Attachment Bonds (IPPA), the Career Thoughts Inventory (CTI), and the Career Exploration survey (CES). Data were analysed using Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression. Regression results showed a significant association between parental attachment, dysfunctional career thoughts, career exploration and CDMSE. Career exploration accounted for the largest variance in CDMSE, followed by dysfunctional career thoughts and parental attachment. Forgiveness interventions are a promising approach to conflict resolution, anger-reduction and the enhancement of emotional well-being in adults. The present study examined the effectiveness of a novel six-session, problem-oriented forgiveness group intervention for Greek preadolescents. The sample consisted of 42 primary school students aged 10–13 years, allocated to the experimental (n = 21) or control group (n = 21). The intervention was evaluated using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Results indicated that, compared to the control group, participants in the experimental group showed a significant reduction in feelings of depression and anger as well as an increase in satisfaction with life. In addition, experimental group participants showed a better understanding of forgiveness and developed a more positive attitude towards their offenders. A 12-month follow-up further supported the long-term impact of the forgiveness intervention. This study examined associations between self-efficacy and various dimensions of family patterns – differentiation of self, satisfaction with differentiation of self, and intergenerational triangulation – among a sample of 393 college students from Israel. The sample comprised 140 males and 253 females, and 264 Jews and 129 Arabs. Self-efficacy was positively correlated with differentiation of self and negatively correlated with intergenerational triangulation. Arab students reported lower levels of self-efficacy and higher levels of emotional cutoff and intergenerational triangulation than Jewish participants. The results shed light on two important concepts in Bowen's family system theory – differentiation of self and intergenerational triangulation – and lend empirical support to the relation between them on the one hand, and personal well-being on the other hand. A new qualification benchmark, the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) Diploma Level 6 in Career Guidance and Development was established in the UK in 2011. This study was conducted to ascertain whether a theoretical nexus is necessary for practice and how this could contribute to the professionalisation of the adult careers sector in England. The study was undertaken with practitioners, all of whom had trained either through the work-based competency route or the academic route. Practitioners were asked to consider their theoretical modalities and how this influenced the embedding of theory within their professional practice. Analysis of survey and case study data revealed that degrees of exposure to theory during initial training affect capacities for theoretical integration during ongoing practice and development. The associations between sons' challenging behaviour and mothers' anxiety and depression were investigated in four age-subgroups of boys with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their mothers (n = 49). Significant correlations were found only for the 6-yr-old boys' irritability and their mothers' anxiety (r =.808) and depression (r =.762), and for the 7-yr-old boys' stereotypy and their mothers' depression (r =.745). MANOVA and ANOVA found no significant differences between the irritability of the 6-yr-old boys and that of the remaining boys, nor between the 7-yr-olds' stereotypy and the remaining boys, plus no significant difference in the mothers' anxiety and depression scores across age groups. As health-related mobile apps have proliferated in recent years in USA and Australia, counsellor opinions were solicited to aid development of therapeutic apps. After being informed of the therapeutic potential of time and location-based reminders, 33 drug and alcohol counsellors from New Zealand and Australia answered an anonymous online survey. Counsellors were willing to use timed and location based reminders to assist clients with their sobriety, but were concerned about running costs. Less experienced counsellors may be less willing to use mobile technology therapeutically. Counsellors could be willing to use location services on mobile phones therapeutically, but training may be required to address concerns about privacy and the ability to engage with clients about their spatial and temporal vulnerabilities. To develop the Chinese version of Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure (CORE-OM) and examine its psychometric properties, we investigated a sample of 689 non-clinical and 309 clinical participants and found this measurement had good acceptability, internal reliability, test-retest reliability and convergent validity; it had moderate correlations with the Schwartz Outcome Scale and Symptom Check List-90, which showed an acceptable concurrent validity. Specifically, we explored the cut-off line of clinical criterion and found a g factor plus three-factor solution better than original four-domain model in Chinese context. Guided by Social Cognitive Career Theory, this study investigated the future perceptions of Hong Kong female university students. Fifty-eight students completed a semi-structured questionnaire to better understand their beliefs, hopes, and visions about their future. The thematic analysis performed yielded 10 major future life themes in the participants' responses: (a) work, (b) family, (c) roles and responsibilities, (d) romantic relationships, (e) values, (f) living situation, (g) quality of life, (h) status of education, (i) personal interests and hobbies, (j) finance, and (k) friendship. Findings from this study provide novel information on Hong Kong women's future perceptions that may help career counsellors when constructing client goals and tasks aimed at exploring and fulfilling their future perceptions. Worry is an important mediator in the relation between stressors and health. This pilot study examined whether a smartphone-based in time worry-reduction training was feasible and improved physiological health (i.e. increased heart rate variability [HRV]). A total of 26 high-worriers were randomised to an experimental or active-control condition (EC and CC respectively). Participants in both conditions registered emotions 5 times daily for a month. The EC additionally received worry-reduction training with mindfulness exercises. Primary outcomes were feasibility and HRV measured at baseline, after 2 weeks (halfway), and at 4 weeks (post-intervention). Both training conditions were feasible and well received. HRV increased in the EC and CC, but this increase did not differ between conditions. Preliminary findings suggest that both training conditions are feasible and might improve HRV, which is an important predictor of cardiovascular disease. This pilot study only provided preliminary evidence, but it laid the groundwork for future randomised controlled trials that ought to include more participants and a waitlist control group in order to get more definitive evidence of the effectiveness of the intervention. This article reports on integrative career counselling provided to a creative young man selected purposefully. An explorative, descriptive, instrumental, single case-study approach was followed, and two recently developed questionnaires (one qualitative and one quantitative) were used to collect the data. A career construction counselling intervention comprising assessment and (meta-) reflective dialogues on the participant's elicited career-life story was conducted. The intervention involved elicitation of the participant's career-life story, authorisation of the story, and facilitation of action (forward movement). The participant's need was met for "different" career counselling. The intervention helped the participant to celebrate and draw on his sense of creativity. The Dialogical Temporal Chair Technique (DTCT) is a method based on Hermans's dialogical self theory combined with Gestalt and cognitive–behavioural therapeutic techniques. The Dialogical Temporal Chair Technique is a method of activating temporal voices. Three chairs symbolising the past, present and future are used to help subjects create a temporal dialogue. Participants are asked to take a specific I-position and to construct a temporal self-dialogue by changing chair (and hence I-position). The DTCT can be used to solve undefined problems or to explore new ways of thinking, but it may also be used to review important life decisions or enable integration of, or detachment from, ambivalent feelings and attitudes. Turnover is a significant problem in the school system, but little is known about turnover and turnover intention among school counsellors. Previous studies point to several aspects of school counsellors' roles which may relate to turnover intention, and given the important role school counsellors play for students, parents, and other teachers, it is important to understand what factors contribute to turnover intention in this population. In this study we examined workplace stress, employee self-esteem, organisational identification, and organisational commitment as possible predictors of turnover intention among 98 school counsellors in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Tenure as a school counsellor, work-stress effort, and in-group ties predicted turnover intention. Implications and future research priorities are discussed with a focus on school counselling. The mediational role of counsellor burnout and dispositional hope between mindful awareness and counsellor self-efficacy has been examined among 243 professional school counsellors from 72 cities out of 81 in Turkey. With structural equation modelling and a bootstrap method, the results have revealed that counsellor burnout and dispositional hope fully mediated the relationship between mindful awareness and counsellor self-efficacy. Effectiveness evidence supporting school-based counselling is increasing, yet little is known about its cost-effectiveness. Within an effectiveness trial we tested whether a cost-effectiveness evaluation was feasible and aimed to provide early indications of support and associated costs for students with emotional problems. A service use questionnaire was piloted. School-based services were a key source of support and used by more than half the students at each time point. Support costs were estimated for 63/64 participants using well-established methods and ranged between £0 (no services used) and £3562 per participant over the last school term. An analysis of both theoretical and empirical literature suggests that career counselling should begin in childhood and that it should be an ongoing process based on a narrative approach. The basis of this paradigm is an insightful reflection over one's life history, which requires tapping into the capacities of autobiographical memory. At the same time, childhood and adolescence are periods when readiness for insightful analysis of one's past are at their lowest. Literature reviews illustrate that comics are an effective way of inciting reflection and stimulating early development memories. Accordingly, this research aimed at examining the usefulness of comics in stimulating insights into life among young adolescents. The sample comprised 242 students, that is 114 boys and 128 girls aged 13–15. We found that comics help create an environment that is conducive to recalling memories among young people. Online counselling literature indicates that the quality of effective online counselling is intrinsically linked to methods used and experiences gained in counselling training courses and suggests that online counselling is a very real alternative to meeting face-to-face. In Europe, online counselling is becoming a widespread idea. However, counsellors may understand and use it in different ways. Therefore, it is important to study how counsellor students who will work in different contexts construct their personal views of online counselling. This study examined the conceptions of online counselling held by early career counsellors undertaking additional training, hereafter referred to counsellor students. This study investigated the impact of age, gender, language and acculturation choice on the sociocultural adjustment and well-being of Syrian refugees in Stuttgart, Germany. A total of 214 Syrian refugees participated in this study by filling a demographics questionnaire, the Acculturation Attitudes Scale (AAS-16), the Revised Sociocultural Adjustment Scale (R-SCAS), and the Mental Health Inventory (MHI-18). The results showed that the level of German language acquisition significantly correlated with sociocultural adjustment. No significant correlation was found between age and depression level and no significant difference in depression scores were found as a function of gender. Integration significantly correlated with sociocultural adjustment and mental health. Recent policy initiatives in the UK have heightened the degree to which wellbeing can be considered a political construct: The acceptance of different policy options for wellbeing depends on the extent to which those options are responsive to popular wellbeing concerns. Drawing on the views of over 400 people gathered through a variety of methods and across the UK, we outline different stakeholder views of what wellbeing is and the priorities that stakeholders believe should be addressed to improve wellbeing. We draw out the implications for reframing policy debates around wellbeing, the practice of career guidance, academic debates around identified wellbeing priorities, and the best means of developing a policy and a practice-oriented and stakeholder-responsive approach to researching wellbeing.
