The article provides a prospect of the social policy carried out in Spain during the last three centuries, in order to verify the duration and the tortuous path from the private to the public social care. It analyzes how the private assistance has a significant weight that imposes the satisfaction of the interests of the assistants, called “Mateo effect”. Finally, it goes through the historical recovery of the private initiative, which was institutionalized in the form of volunteering and led to the Third Sector of the assistance, made up of non-governmental and non-profit organizations, integrated by volunteers, which complement the Welfare State. They are in a third position and claim to be nor private neither public; but some consider them as not totally neutral and closer to the private than to the public., El artículo hace un recorrido por la política social practicada en España durante los tres últimos siglos, para comprobar la larga duración y el tortuoso recorrido que ha debido atravesar el tránsito de lo particular a lo general, de lo privado a lo público en la asistencia social. Estudia cómo la asistencia privada tiene un lastre significativo que impone la satisfacción de los intereses de los asistentes, llamado “efecto Mateo”. Analiza finalmente la recuperación histórica de la iniciativa particular, que se institucionaliza en forma de voluntariado y da lugar al Tercer Sector de la asistencia, formado por organizaciones no gubernamentales, sin ánimo de lucro, integradas por voluntarios, que complementan al Estado de Bienestar. Ellas se ubican en una posición tercera y dicen no ser privadas ni públicas; pero algunos las califican como no totalmente neutras y las consideran más próximas a lo privado que a lo público., O artigo explora a política social praticada na Espanha durante os últimos três séculos, para verificar que a durabilidade e a tortuosa rota que tem devido para desviar o trânsito do particular para o geral, do privado para a assistência social pública. Ele estudou como a assistência privada tem um encargo significativo que impõe a satisfação dos interesses dos participantes, o chamado “Efeito Mateus”. Finalmente, analisa a recuperação histórica da iniciativa particular, que é institucionalizada sob a forma de voluntariado e dá origem ao terceiro setor de assistência, consistindo de nãogovernamental, sem fins lucrativos, composta por voluntários, que complementam o Estado-Providência. Eles estão localizados em uma terceira posição e dizer não ser privada ou pública; mas alguns qualificá-los como não totalmente neutro e consideramos mais perto para o privado ao público.

This volume collects a selection of papers concerning the history of linguistics spanning the centuries from the 17th to the 20th. These contributions were presented and debated at ICHoLS XV (Milan, 23 – 27 August 2021). The essays focus on various contexts across the modern and contemporary ages in Europe, Asia, and the United States. The easternmost lands of inland Galicia have maintained a close relationship with the Bierzo region since the Antiquity, favouring social, economic, and cultural exchanges and enriching both in the process. In this context, this article aims to put forward an analysis of artistic exchanges in this border territory based on the study of the church of St John the Baptist ofTorés (As Nogais,Lugo),which preserves an interesting heritage, exemplifying artistic flows between regions in both the modern and contemporary ages., Las tierras más orientales de la Galicia interior mantuvieron desde la Antigüedad una estrecha relación con la comarca del Bierzo, lo que favoreció los intercambios sociales, económicos y culturales, y con ello el enriquecimiento mutuo. En este contexto, el artículo plantea un análisis de las relaciones artísticas en este territorio de frontera a partir del estudio de la iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Torés (As Nogais, Lugo),que conserva un interesante patrimonio, ejemplo de esos flujos artísticos en la Edad Moderna y Contemporánea.

The essay comments on some of the main documents attesting to the turning points of professionalism and theatre organisation in the modern and contemporary ages. From the professionalism of the actors of the Commedia dell'arte to the revival of this model in the opera theatre; the birth of the figure of the theatre manager; the passage of the theatre from market to industry; the birth of the figure of the theatre agent. In the 20th century, the essay finally studies the plurality of organisational forms determined by the various interventions of the state in favour of theatrical activity.

La presente ricerca affronta l’analisi del mito di fondazione della nazione spagnola, la battaglia di Covadonga, e del culto della Vergine delle Battaglie ad essa vincolato nei secoli dell’Età Moderna e Contemporanea. In primo luogo, occupandosi delle rielaborazioni nazionaliste del mito delle origini della Spagna, lo studio ha l’ambizione di inserirsi nelle analisi costruttiviste sul nazionalismo culturale; in secondo luogo, attraverso lo studio del culto di Nostra Signora di Covadonga, l’indagine si pone l’obiettivo di costituire un contributo alla conoscenza generale del cattolicesimo europeo fra l’età liberale e l’era dei totalitarismi. In linea generale, infine, come contributo alla storia religiosa, la ricerca si propone di mettere in discussione il paradigma della secolarizzazione, dimostrando la vitalità e la centralità del cattolicesimo sociale e politico nella modernità europea. La prima parte della ricerca si occupa della disamina del mito delle origini della nazione spagnola nella storiografia e nella letteratura prodotte fra la metà del Cinquecento e gli anni Cinquanta del Novecento. Attraverso l’analisi del racconto della fondazione e della discendenza lo studio evidenzia le successive risignificazioni e i variegati usi pubblici della mitologia delle origini ai fini di legittimare ordinamenti politici e progetti di nazione anche antitetici. Nella seconda parte, lo studio ripercorre l’imposizione dell’egemonia sacra della devozione di Nostra Signora di Covadonga nelle Asturie e la costruzione simbolica del culto, associato a caratteristiche antiliberali e conservatrici, nel secondo Ottocento. L’uso politico della devozione mariana asturiana in funzione controrivoluzionaria nel quadro generale della seconda fase delle guerre culturali europee costituisce l’argomento dell’ultima sezione della disamina. Lo studio ha cercato di fare della comparazione e della multidisciplinarità i suoi punti di forza, confrontando il caso di studio con altre esperienze euro, This research faces the analysis of the myth of the foundation of the Spanish nation, the battle of Covadonga, and the cult of the Virgin of the Battle linked to it in the Modern and Contemporary Ages. First, dealing with the nationalist re-workings of the myth of the origins, the study is part of the constructivist analyses on cultural nationalism; second, through the study of the cult of Our Lady of Covadonga, the investigation contributes to the general knowledge of European Catholicism between the liberal age and the era of totalitarianisms. Finally, as a contribution of religious history, the research questions the paradigm of secularization, demonstrating the vitality of Catholicism in European modernity. The first part of the research is dedicated to the examination of the myth of the origins of the Spanish community in the historiography and literature produced between sixteenth century and twentieth century. In this section, the study highlights the re-significations and the public uses of the mythology of the ancestry in order to legitimize political systems even antithetical. In the second part, the study retraces the imposition of the sacred hegemony of the devotion of the Virgin of Covadonga in Asturias in the second half of the nineteenth century and investigates the symbolic construction of the cult, associated with anti-liberal and counter-revolutionary characteristics. The political uses of Mount Auseva Marian cult in the context of the mobilization of the Spanish Catholicism against the secularizing policies of the republican government is the topic of the last section of the examination. The research has tried to make of comparison and multidisciplinary approach its core points, comparing the case study with other experiences from Latin Europe and placing itself at the intersection of cultural history, religious anthropology, sociology of religion, history of art and literature, and local history.

[Resumo] Estudo dos contactos interculturais entre Irlanda e Galicia a partir da análise do Leabhar Gabhála Éireann, libro redactado en gaélico a principios do s. XII en Leinster, que narra sagas de herois relacionadas coas seis conquistas da illa en tempos prehistóricos. Tras informar sobre os achádegos arqueolóxicos que permiten constatar que existiu unha cultura atlántica común á que estes pobos pertencían, faise un percorrido a través da historia e a literatura de Irlanda e Galicia para atopar as pegadas duns relatos que se converteron, durante as idades Moderna e Contemporánea, en mensaxe de resistencia identitaria céltica. Segue un estudo comparado entre estas culturas a través da toponimia e outros tipos de onomástica supervivente, así como cultos e ritos relixiosos, folclore e mitoloxía. After a thorough research of archaeological findings which allows us to prove there was a common Atlantic culture that these peoples belonged to, a tour is made through the history and literature of Ireland and Galicia with the aim of finding traces of the narratives that later became a message of Celtic identity resistance during the Modern and Contemporary ages. A comparative study between these cultures is carried out through the use of toponymy and other types of surviving onomastics, including religious cults and rites, folklore, and mythology. The study concludes with a case study of Galician-Irish comparative literature by introducing the authors and works of Seamus Heaney and Luz Pozo Garza, as well as exploring some of their texts.

A educação sempre foi tema de muita discussão e ainda continua sendo. Baseado nessa ideia, o presente artigo tem como objetivo discutir os pressupostos teóricos da educação, iniciando com a própria ideia do desenvolvimento intelectual humano e passando pela Idade Antiga, Média, Moderna e Contemporânea. É importante ressaltar que o artigo não tem a pretensão de esgotar toda essa temática, nem mesmo de abordar todos os pressupostos teóricos, o que de fato seria impossível, porém propõe-se a iniciar ou até mesmo continuar essa discussão. Para isso a pesquisa, utilizou-se do método descritivo e o seu procedimento técnico se deu de forma bibliográfica. Conclui-se que é importante discutir sobre os pressupostos teóricos da educação na história, pois sem isso tampouco é possível entender a educação atual., La educación siempre fue tema de mucha discusión y todavía sigue siendo. Basado en esa idea, el presente artículo tiene por objetivo discutir los presupuestos teóricos de la educación, empezando con la propia idea del desarrollo intelectual humano y pasando por la Edad Antigua, Media, Moderna y Contemporánea. Es importante resaltar que el artículo no tiene la pretensión de agotar toda esa temática, tampoco abordar todos los presupuestos teóricos, lo que de hecho sería imposible, pero se propone a empezar o mismo dar continuidad a esa discusión. Para eso la búsqueda se utilizó del método descriptivo y su procedimiento técnico se dio de forma bibliográfica. Se concluye que es importante discutir sobre los presupuestos teóricos de la educación en la historia, pues sin eso tampoco es posible comprender la educación actual., Education has always been a much discussed theme and continues to be so. Based on this idea, the goal of this article is to discuss the theoretical pressupositions of education, beginning with the idea itself of human intellectual development and passing through the Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Contemporary Ages. It is important to point out that the article does not have the intention of covering the whole of this theme, nor even all of the theoretical pressupositions, which would be impossible. But it intends to begin or at least continue this discussion. For this the research made use of the descriptive method and its technical procedures took place in a bibliographic way. We conclude that it is important to discuss the theoretical pressupositions of education in history since, without this, it is not even possible to understand current education.
