Abstract

The purpose of the session was to stimulate and highlight the indisputable attention paid to the shape of the city in the modern and contemporary era, both in the case of replacement and expansion. This is what emerges from the contribution of Gianluca Belli and Carolina De Falco, Townscapes between modern and contemporary age: the expansion of cities beyond the walls, aimed at showing how, even in very distant times, attention to the quality of the urban environment is considered even in the design of the most peripheral areas. Consideration was also given to the strategies put in place to avoid the conformity of the urban environment, as well as to give identity to places, especially public and community spaces.
