QUALITY of work life , *JOB satisfaction , *RURAL population , *LIFE satisfaction , *SCHOLARLY method - Abstract
There is a strong correlation between macroeconomic conditions and migration in general, which drives population loss in rural areas with fewer job opportunities. This relationship between work and migration resonates with people's experiences and is backed up by large quantitative studies. But qualitative research on community outmigration yields more nuanced insights into migration as a biographical, subjective process that is influenced as much by perceptions and discourses linking success with big cities as by actual job opportunities. These insights have shifted recent scholarship away from job-centric explanations toward a greater appreciation for other place-related factors that affect life satisfaction and well-being. In this paper, we seek to apply these insights in a quantitative analysis looking at why Atlantic Canadians plan to leave their communities. We further consider how several job quality and satisfaction measures intersect with community characteristics and demographics to shape migration intentions. Using data from a 2019 survey of 1,277 Atlantic Canadians, we find that respondents from both urban and rural areas are motivated to leave their communities by a variety of factors--not only for work, but also for social and lifestyle reasons--although people under 30 are especially likely to cite work or school as their reason for leaving. While most job quality and satisfaction measures did not significantly influence migration intentions, we find that job stability factors--for example, permanent contracts and stable hours--are linked to lower migration intentions among rural residents, in particular. SATISFACTION - Abstract
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Negative effects on employee well-being as a result of staff cuts are widely hypothesized in the literature, although empirical evidence is still quite limited. This study attempts to determine whether budget cuts and downsizing in the affected departments have had the same impact on Canadian federal public servants' job satisfaction as is suggested in the literature. Budget cuts were rarely added to staff reductions. The results show that budget cuts negatively impact the attitudes of federal employees at a 10 % threshold, but only marginally. Overall, a slight decrease in job satisfaction was observed, whereas the theory predicted more dissatisfaction. In future episodes of austerity, parametric budget or workforce cuts of five percent could be maintained in order to minimize adverse impacts on federal civil servants' job satisfaction. - Abstract
Health care professions are emotionally demanding, requiring special skills in caring and empathy. In the health care field, many professions have been linked to burnout, notably through compassion fatigue. Several studies have attempted to determine what factors influence burnout among health care workers in general; however, few have focused exclusively on psychologists (PSYs) and neuropsychologists (NPSYs). This scoping review aims to better understand the determinants of burnout among PSYs and NPSYs specifically. It also aims to identify which factors allow PSYs and NPSYs to adapt and thrive at work despite the difficulties those professions bring. This research focused on burnout, job satisfaction, and well-being at work. Among the most notable results obtained from 27 scientific studies are as follows: (a) PSYs and NPSYs are generally very satisfied at work despite high burnout rates; (b) individual factors and the work environment impact the mental health of PSYs and NPSYs; (c) self-care behaviors are favorable for job satisfaction, and they also decrease the risk of burnout. In addition, it appears that a feeling of autonomy has an important influence on burnout symptoms, which is consistent with self-determination theory. In sum, this scoping review reveals that factors such as self-compassion, work–life balance, control over work, and administrative tasks can reduce the risk of burnout as well as improve job satisfaction and mental health among PSYs and NPSYs.

This article sets down the foundations of a research project on Health and Physical Education (HPE) teachers' job satisfaction and job embededness. According to the literature, HPE teachers has a weak status inside and outside school which may conduct to professional marginalization. After describing the situation of the teaching profession in the province of Québec, the focus is directed toward HPE as a teaching specialty. A conceptual framework that articulates job satisfaction and job embededness models is then proposed. In conclusion of this theoretical reflexion, considering the actual teacher shortage, school organizations are invited to adhere to a more sustainable approach of teaching resources management. Introduction. Discussion/conclusion. _______________________________________________________________________________ Practice of occupational therapy in Quebec homecare settings: a meaningful work? Background. Holism, client-centered practice (CCP) and the use of meaningful activity are core principles guiding the practice of occupational therapy. Given performance and cost optimization measures put forward by health care institutions in Quebec, it is difficult for Occupational Therapists working in home support to respect these principles. This context may affect the meaning these occupational therapists attribute to their daily work. Objective. The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning that SAD occupational therapists attribute to their daily work. Methodology. A descriptive interpretive research was conducted by a qualitative survey. Nine occupational therapists from three institutions in Greater Montreal and Montérégie were interviewed in semi-structured interviews (n = 3 interviews) and focus group discussions (n = 2 groups). Results. The extraction and compiling of data revealed twelve main themes related to meaning, as contributory or unfavorable elements in the practice of occupational therapists. The possibility of directly intervening in the person’s living environment is an element of SAD practice particularly contributory to meaning. In contrast, the current organizational pressures are altering this practice and creating a conflict with the contemporary values of the profession. Discussion/Conclusion. This study initiates a reflexion on the practice of occupational therapists in SAD. It identifies the elements that allow occupational therapists to have a meaningful practice that is consistent with their core principles and values.

- Abstract
The present study investigates the predictive aspects of the work-family conflict in professionals in the hospital context. Such contexts are commonly investigated in terms of health domains and organizational factors, with effects on aspects of work-family interaction still little explored. Research on the work-family relationship is important both for organizations, for families, professionals, and society. Therefore, a survey study was conducted, with 470 workers, with a mean age of 34.50 years and an average years working in the profession of 8.0 years. Participants answered a survey composed of questions and psychological scales. The results pointed out that aspects of family interference at work were predicted by age, career time, intention to leave the organization and organizational incivility, and work to interfere in the family also involved aspects of workload, work satisfaction, organizational commitment and civility organizational structure. It is discussed suggestions for management and research on the subject in organizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Systematically ascertained data on job stress and burnout and their antecedents and mediators in health professionals from low- and middle-income countries are scant. This cross sectional survey, conducted from July 2007 to August 2008, of consenting medical and surgical faculty of a large, charitable, teaching hospital aimed to evaluate: 1) the prevalence and sources of job stress and job satisfaction, and the ways used to cope with stress; 2) the prevalence of burnout and mental distress; and 3) the influence of age, gender, empathy and religious or spiritual beliefs on job stress, satisfaction, mental health and burnout. Of 345 respondents, high job stress on the Physician Stress and Satisfaction questionnaire were reported by 23%. However, 98% of faculty reported high levels of job satisfaction with deriving intellectual stimulation from teaching and a high level of responsibility identified as important contributory sources. Significantly more respondents aged < 45 years compared to older faculty achieved moderate or high scores on Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization. General Health Questionnaire-12 scores suggested psychiatric morbidity in 21%, particularly in younger faculty. High job stress was associated with high scores for Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization. High scores on the Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy correlated with high scores of Emotional Exhaustion. Religious or spiritual beliefs strongly influencing attitudes to work were significantly associated with high levels of Personal Accomplishment. This study provides data that will inform the design and implementation of interventions to reduce job stress and burnout and improve retention of faculty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In existing literature the tutorial function is considered as a basic component of the teaching practice and a factor of teaching quality. The goal of our work is to analyze the different aspects of mentoring in Infant, Primary and Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training. In order to achieve this goal, we emailed a test to a sample of mentors in all the autonomous regions of Spain. The test was filled in by 1,350 mentors. Given the constant changes in Spain's socio educational reality, an exploratory work was carried out to obtain information about the current situation of the mentoring function. The analysis of their answers indicates that, as stated in existing research, they feel satisfied with their task, while they consider the aforementioned function is quite important for the education of pupils and the well-functioning of educational institutions. They feel reasonably recognized in their mentoring function both by teachers and by families. Nevertheless, they do not think the same about the recognition shown by the educational authorities. They understand that their mentoring task should count more towards their professional career. They consider that they receive adequate collaboration from the teaching staff, families and management boards in education centres. We understand that the educational authorities should further support mentors and improve their professional situation. Finally, it seems necessary to analyze the development of tutorial action according to the constant socioeducational and normative changes that occur. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The objective of the following article was to analyze the influence of Emotional Salary, with the intention of creating a strategy that approaches an optimal work environment, which promotes satisfaction, staff retention, and the performance of human talent, to achieve the goals set by the company. Having this been said, a mixed study was proposed in which qualitative and quantitative techniques were combined to answer the question formulated, making use of documentary support based on several authors. Likewise, a survey was conducted employing a non-probabilistic intentional sampling of 32 workers with the help of the Google Forms platform to obtain the data. The results proved that an organic salary, which is not accompanied by a welfare plan, will have a short-term impact on the performance and production of the members of the organizations. Consequently, an Emotional Salary proposal was presented, which should be combined with the paid income of the collaborators to guarantee their happiness.

Studies that measure frontline employee job satisfaction in microfinance institutions (MFIs) are still scarce. The present study fills this gap and develops a measurement scale for MFIs’ frontline employees. Data were collected from 226 and 419 frontline employees from 50 and 53 MFIs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These data were processed through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. The results confirm that employee job satisfaction is a multidimensional construct with 10 factors. The scale was found to be reliable and valid, suggesting that the measure of job satisfaction has to be context and sector specific.

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current context of the crisis of primary care, combined with new aspirations and family responsibilities of practitioners, are causing a shortage of actors in primary care. To solve this problem, a new dynamic tends to focus on the "positive" aspects of General Medicine. For that, it is important to identify the factors of professional satisfaction of French liberal general practitioners, favoring their maintenance in the profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
