- Abstract
Objective: Osteoporosis is a chronic metabolic bone disease characterized by bone fragility and increased fracture risk. The prevalence of osteoporosis has increased because of demographic changes and lifestyle modifications. Osteoporotic fractures are associated with a previous fragility fracture. This study aimed to determine patients' awareness levels regarding the prevention of new fractures and the necessary precautions for osteoporosis. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study included 112 patients with osteoporotic fractures who met the inclusion criteria. The effect level was 0.632, the confidence interval (α) was 0.05, and the power of the test (1-β) was 0.95 for 110 samples. The patient information form and osteoporosis awareness scale (OAS) were used for data collection. Results: Eighty-three patients (74.1%) were unaware that their fractures were osteoporotic, and 35.7% (n=40) had a history of previous fractures. The mean OAS total score of patients diagnosed with osteoporosis before fracture, those who had a family member diagnosed and treated with osteoporosis, and those who received education about osteoporosis was significantly higher. It was found that there was a moderate positive correlation between educational status and OAS total score (r=451; p<0.001). There was no difference in the OAS total score between patients with and without previous fractures (p=0.817). It was found that 53.5% of patients diagnosed with osteoporosis before the fracture still needed education about osteoporosis. Conclusion: The results showed that patient education successfully increased awareness but did not help develop positive preventive attitudes in patients. Repeated training is necessary for individuals at risk. Bone mineral densitometry scan rates are low even in patients with a history of fragility fractures. The awareness of orthopedic specialists regarding osteoporosis education and diagnosis should be increased. The dissemination of screening tests for early diagnosis of osteoporosis should be part of the public health agenda. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This research aims to measure the knowledge and awareness levels of individuals over the age of 18 about cardiovascular risk factors who apply to a family health center. The population of the descriptive and cross- sectional study consisted of all individuals aged 18 and over who applied to the family health center for any reason between April 1 and June 30, 2023, and the sample consisted of 265 volunteer individuals who agreed to participate in the study. The data of the study were collected by face-to-face interview method using the "Introductory Information Form" and the "Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors Knowledge Level (CARRF-KL)" scale. In addition, within the scope of the study, the blood pressure of the participants was measured and the results were recorded. 45.3% of the participants are between the ages of 26-35, 60% are women, 24.5% are university graduates or above, 68.7% are married and 75.8% live in the district. It was observed that the (CARRF-KL) mean total scores of the individuals participating in the study were lower in the 19-25 age group compared to the other groups, and the (CARRF-KL) mean total scores of those who graduated from university and above were higher than those who were illiterate, middle school and high school graduates, and this difference was significant. (p<0.05). Individuals' cardiovascular disease risk awareness levels directly affect the rate of contracting diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCIENCE education , *CLIMATE change , *CLIMATE change education , *STUDENT teachers , *SECONDARY education - Abstract
The aim of this study is to assess the awareness of pre-service teachers who will provide climate change education in secondary schools about global climate change according to different variables. The study sample, which was obtained through a survey, consisted of 255 pre-service teachers enrolled in the departments of science teaching and social studies teaching at a university located in the Central Anatolia Region. In this study, the Global Climate Change Awareness Scale, comprising four sub-dimensions, was employed as a data collection instrument. At the conclusion of the study, it was established that the awareness of global climate change among pre-service teachers was of a moderate nature. Furthermore, it was determined that the global climate change awareness of pre-service teachers did not differ according to the departments they studied or their gender according to scale-wide. However, it was found that this awareness, according to scale-wide, did differ according to the variables of class level, membership to environmental organisations, participation in environmental activities and taking elective courses related to the environment. Additionally, the results of the analyses of the subdimensions of the scale according to the variables were included in the study. At the end of the study, it was suggested that the number of compulsory and elective courses related to the environment taken by pre-service teachers during their undergraduate education could be increased, they could be encouraged to take elective courses in the curriculum, their membership to environmental organisations could be supported and their participation in environmental activities could be ensured. Objective: Chronic airway diseases, despite being significant causes of mortality and morbidity, are not adequately understood by both patients and the general population. This lack of awareness results in deficiencies in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases, as well as the failure to implement preventive measures. The aim of our study is to evaluate the level of knowledge about asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in our community. Methods: Between November 2023 and February 2024, a total of 108 patients aged 18 years and older diagnosed with asthma or COPD presented to the Chest Diseases Outpatient Clinic of Rize and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Hospital. Province Primary Health Care Center No 1. Participants were administered a sociodemographic data form and the Turkish Ministry of Health Chronic Respiratory Diseases Prevention and Control Program Asthma-COPD Awareness Survey Form, which included questions related to asthma and COPD. Statistical analysis of the data was conducted using SPSS v16 software, and p<0.05 was accepted as statistical significance. Results: In the study, 108 participants were included, of whom 56 were female and 52 were male. Of these, 26.9% were diagnosed with COPD and 70.4% with asthma. Among the participants, 88.9% recognized COPD as a lung-affecting disease, and the same percentage identified smoking as its most significant factor in development. Additionally, 85.2% knew that quitting smoking is the first step in prevention and treatment. However, only 52.8% of participants were aware that COPD is treatable. Regarding asthma, nearly all participants (94.4%) knew it can occur in all age groups, but only 40.7% recognized it could be hereditary, and 79.6% understood it is not contagious. Conclusion: Asthma and COPD are not sufficiently understood by patients suffering from these diseases. They lead to significant mortality and morbidity, imposing substantial burdens on work. SMOKING , *AWARENESS , *TOBACCO use - Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to idenitfy the knowledge levels of families regarding third-hand smoke (THS), which represents the most significant health risk currently, and to raise awareness of the subject. Material and Methods: The 'Beliefs About Third-hand Smoke' (BATHS) scale was applied to 1016 caregivers. The BATHS scale and sub-factor scale results were compared in terms of participant-related variables such as smoking behaviors, THS awareness and beliefs, and sociodemographic findings. Results: Awareness of the term THS was very low (8.7%). Statistically significantly low smoking habits and high BATHS scale scores were determined among participants who owned their own homes, those with higher levels of education and income, and in non-parent relatives (p<0.001). Parental THS awareness was lower among mothers. Being a university graduate increased awareness 19 times and owning one's own home 2.6 times. While not smoking at all resulted in a significant increase in BATHS scores, it did not affect THS awareness. Conclusion: Despite the availability of numerous programs and educational material concerning the harm caused by first-and second-hand smoke, levels of information about TSH, a more important but invisible danger, are unfortunately very low in society and among health professionals. It is therefore essential to increase the requisite sensitivity to the issue and to encourage smoke-free society studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) symptoms may cause stress and anxiety, which lead to functional disturbances. In several studies, awareness about RLS was found to be low in physicians and medical students who live through a rigorous educational period. In this study, we aimed to investigate the frequency, risk factors, and awareness of RLS in medical students and associated sleep problems. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study included thirdand fourth-year medical students. A questionnaire about sociodemographic characteristics and RLS parameters, including risk factors, diagnostic criteria, awareness, and sleep problems was applied to 354 students in a period of two months. Data were evaluated using chi-square, Fisher's exact test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, student's t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: There were 39 participants (11.1%) who fullfilled diagnostic criteria A of RLS based on the international classification of sleep disorders 3. The female-to-male ratio was 1.6:1. Lower income and family history were associated with RLS symptoms (p=0.003, p=0.041). Self-reported symptoms of anxiety and stress as well as functional impairment were associated with RLS (p=0.003, p=0.004). Depression and sleep problems were more frequent in participants experiencing RLS symptoms (p=0.005, p=0.005). Awareness about RLS was observed in those with probable RLS (p=0.003), attending their neurology rotation did not affect awareness, and web sources were reported as the main sources about RLS-related data. Conclusion: In this study, lower income, family history, depression as a comorbidity, poor sleep quality, anxiety, stress, and daytime dysfunctionality were associated with RLS symptoms. Awareness about RLS was quite low in medical students. To enhance the diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate referrals concerning RLS, awareness should be increased in medical students. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the awareness of hearing, balance, language and speech skills of parents of children aged 3--12 years with hearing loss with and without special needs. Method: The Parental Awareness Screening Scale for Hearing, Balance, Language and Speech Skills in Children with Hearing Loss (PASBSS) was used. The scale was administered to parents face-toface and online and data were collected. The scale is a 5-point Likerttype scale consisting of a total of 21 questions. Statistical analyses were performed with IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program version 21.0. Results: When parental awareness in terms of speech-language skills was compared, it was concluded that 63.2% of parents with children with special needs and 90.9% of those without special needs had high awareness. 81.8% of parents of children with special needs and 90.9% of those without special needs had high auditory awareness. In balance awareness, which is another subheading, 36.4% of parents with children with special needs and 63.6% of those without special needs have high awareness. Again, 63.6% of the parents with children with special needs and 63.6% of those without stated that they provided parental support. A significant difference (p=0.005) was found in the last subheading, parents' recognition of symptoms, and it was found that none of the parents of children with special needs and 63.6% of those without special needs had high awareness. Conclusion: A significant difference (p=0.005) was found in the two groups in terms of parents' awareness of symptoms in their children with and without children with special needs with hearing loss. There is a need to increase the awareness of parents in all developmental areas of their children for the development of children with hearing loss, especially children with special needs. In addition, for each developmental stage, the relevant specialist and the parent should be in cooperation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Urban means consciousness understanding of the urban culture by people living in the city, embracing and protecting the city, feeling responsible for the city and feeling like they belong to the city. Urban consciousness differs especially in cities that receive intense immigration, grow rapidly and change their socio-economic structure, and this difference makes the phenomenon of "Urban Consciousness" important in terms of the sustainability of cities. In parallel with this importance, it is a remarkable research topic for social sciences. When the Turkish literature on the concept is examined, it is seen that the number of scales that can be used in urban awareness studies is low. The aim of the study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used in urban awareness research. The study was carried out in the city of Denizli. Denizli is a city that is developing with the influence of industrialization and service sectors and continues to receive immigration. The reason why it was chosen as a research area is that the urbanization process of the city has taken shape in the last 40 years and urban consciousness has just begun to form. The study was conducted face to face with 412 participants residing in Denizli. In the research, a question pool consisting of 76 statements was created based on the Turkish and English literature on the concept. As a result of the analyses, an urban awareness scale consisting of 20 questions was reached. Both Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis were applied for the construct validity of the scale. The findings show that the scale has a factorial structure with five sub-dimensions. The overall Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the scale is 0.79; Cronbach Alpha values of the subscales range between 0.52 and 0.68. Based on the findings, it can be said that the scale can be used as a valid and reliable tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of mindfulness-based interventions in many areas is increasing day by day. Having knowledge of the components of mindfulness is also important to know the mechanisms in which mindfulness-based interventions are effective. This study has aimed to examine potential attentional mechanisms of mindfulness. In this context, mindfulness has been defined and attention and attention models have been briefly discussed in the study. Then, the relationship between mindfulness and attention has been examined, and previous research findings examining mindfulness and attention are included. The studies on attention and mindfulness seem to have more inconsistent results when conducted with adults, whereas the studies in adolescents and children seem to have more consistent results revealing that mindfulness-based interventions improve the attentional skills of the youth. Knowing the relationship between mindfulness and attention will aid to maximize the efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions and it will be a crucial step in identifying the people that might benefit from mindfulness-based interventions. Background: Family health centers, which facilitate access to healthcare services in the community and are known for their reliability, play a critical role in the early diagnosis and screening of breast cancer. This study aims to assess the knowledge levels and awareness of breast cancer among family physicians and healthcare workers who play a vital role in increasing public awareness of breast cancer. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted with family physicians and healthcare workers serving in family health centers in Samsun province. An online survey using Google Forms was i mplemented to assess participants' knowledge and awareness about breast cancer. Results: A total of 263 people, 188 women (71.5%) and 75 men (21.5%), were included in the study. 44.5% of the participants were family physicians and 55.5% were family health workers. 96.8% of women reported having self-breast examination. Women who stated that they did not have a mammogram (38.8%) stated that the reason was that they did not have a ny complaints at a rate of 27.8%. Family physicians w ere more likely to respond to suggestions about breast cancer risks and symptoms than family health professionals (p<0.05); Women gave more correct answers than men (p<0.05). Conclusions: The study results indicate that women have good awareness of breast cancer screening, but participants have inadequate knowledge about national breast cancer standards and breast cancer risk factors. It is important to provide in-service training at regular intervals within the framework of the duties and responsibilities of health professionals in order to increase their knowledge about breast cancer early detection and screening programs and to develop positive health behavior changes. This study aims to explore the mediating role of emotion regulation in the relationship between metacognitive beliefs, mindfulness, and anxiety sensitivity. Data was collected from a sample of 385 participants through a survey questionnaire. The relationships among the latent variables were analyzed using SmartPLS 3. The findings revealed significant positive relationships between mindfulness and emotion regulation, as well as anxiety sensitivity. Similarly, significant positive relationships were observed between metacognitive beliefs and emotion regulation, as well as anxiety sensitivity. Additionally, emotion regulation exhibited a significant positive relationship with anxiety sensitivity. The study further investigated the mediating role of emotion regulation in the relationships between metacognitive beliefs, mindfulness, and anxiety sensitivity. The results, indicate that emotion regulation plays a crucial mediating role in the relationship between metacognitive beliefs and anxiety sensitivity, as well as in the relationship between mindfulness and anxiety sensitivity. These findings highlight the importance of emotion regulation as a mechanism through which metacognitive beliefs and mindfulness influence anxiety sensitivity. Understanding the mediating role of emotion regulation can provide valuable insights for interventions aimed at promoting emotional well-being and reducing anxiety-related concerns. - Abstract
Numerous psychological interventions and psychotherapy approaches claim they are effective and functional. To prevent confusion and potential misuse, the American Psychological Association (APA) has established objective criteria for the efficiency and functionality of these approaches that were also internationally agreed upon. Then, it ultimately announced the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) approach in clinical psychology. This approach merges robust scientific research findings highlighting influential outcomes on certain psychological problems with client preferences and clinician features. In order to raise awareness in the field of clinical psychology in Turkey, this article first outlines the fundamental characteristics and basics of the EBP, as well as its historical context. Moreover, the Society of Clinical Psychology website is the 12th section of the APA that includes a list of psychological interventions announced as Empirically Supported Treatments and relevant resources. Finally, general findings and discussions obtained in the scientific literature review on the concept of the EBP were presented, and later, an evaluation of studies on the dissemination and implementation of the EBP was focused. Relevant implications were also presented based on the current findings of this article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
