Conventional absorbing, reflective and scattering polarizers are facing various issues, such as severe optical loss, necessary oblique incidence, humidity sensitivity or aging‐caused failure. Subnanowires (SNWs) with polymer‐analogue properties, intrinsic order, and multi‐level interactions attract widespread attention as superior candidates for building blocks of polarizers. Herein, freestanding and flexible liquid crystal (LC)‐SNW films are prepared through a facile directional coating method, not only exhibiting good stability for water and repeated temperature fluctuations, but also showing good polarization performance for visible and near‐infrared (NIR) light, with the polarization degree (P) values of 93%, 84%, and 63% at the wavelengths of 580, 780 and 960 nm. The goal of the present study was to explore the relations between social avoidance, peer preference, loneliness, and social sensitivity among urban Chinese children. Participants were 951 children attending primary and middle schools from grade 3 to grade 7. Cross-sectional data were collected using self-report assessments and peer nominations. Results indicated that: (1) social avoidance positively predicted loneliness; (2) peer preference partially mediated the relation between social avoidance and loneliness; (3) social sensitivity moderated the mediating path through peer preference. The findings not only explain the mental health problems of avoidant children from the standpoint of social sensitivity and peer preference, but also have illuminating implications for guiding individual adaptation and mental health intervention. Sleep problem among undergraduate students has become one of the most pressing public health problems. This study aimed to explore the latent class of sleep patterns and the factors affecting sleep in Chinese students of medical university. 3423 students participated in the cross-sectional study. The survey consisted of the reduced Morningness-Evening Questionnaire, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II. Latent profile analysis and multinominal logistic regression analysis were performed. Three potential sleep categories were identified: "sleep disorder group" (1.87 %), "daytime dysfunction group" (24.42 %), and "good sleep group" (73.71 %). Compared with the "good sleep group," the "sleep disorder group" showed monthly living expenses (RMB) ≥ 3000 yuan (OR) = 13.04), interpersonal relationships as poor (OR = 3.71), health status as poor (OR = 45.09), circadian rhythm as eveningness (OR = 6.17), and poor health-promoting lifestyles (OR = 2.090) as its risk factors (all p < 0.05). Meanwhile, sophomore (OR = 1.75), junior (OR = 1.52), interpersonal relationships as poor (OR = 1.88), health status as poor (OR = 4.62), intermediate-chronotype (OR = 2.19), eveningness chronotype (OR = 5.66), and health-promoting lifestyles as poor (OR = 1.55) were identified as risk factors for the "daytime dysfunction group" (all p < 0.05). Bio-carbon with graphene-like structure derived from apples has many advantages over graphene: it can be prepared in large quantities and the abundant heteroatoms present in the lattice can provide many polarization phenomena. Herein, Prussian blue analogue (PBA) as a source of magnetic component was combined with bio-carbon or reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to study the EMW absorption properties. The fabricated BC/CFC-12-7 displayed performance with a minimum reflection loss (RL min) of −72.57 dB and a wide effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 5.25 GHz with an ultra-thin and nearly equal matching thickness at 1.61 mm. The results show that the good EMW absorption property of bio-carbon composites comes from good conduction loss, large relaxation polarization loss especially from pyridinic-N, and better impedance matching. The optimized radar cross section is found to be –33.55 dB m2 in the far-field condition using CST. This work explored the advantages of bio-carbon as a novel EMW absorbing material compared with graphene and provided ideas for realizing high-performance EMW absorbing materials in the future. Aims: Epilepsy is a common symptom in diffuse lower‐grade glioma (DLGG). The specific role of white matter (WM) alteration in patients with glioma‐related epilepsy (GRE) is largely unknown. This study aims to investigate the reorganization of WM tracts and changes in structural networks related to GRE. Methods: Diffusion‐weighted images were collected from 70 patients with left frontal DLGG (GRE = 33, non‐GRE = 37) and 41 healthy controls (HC). Tractometry with TractSeg was applied to segment tracts and quantify fractional anisotropy (FA) along each tract. Structural network was constructed using constrained spherical deconvolution and probabilistic tractography. FA and network properties were compared among three groups. Results: Compared with HC, both GRE and non‐GRE showed decreased FA in contralateral inferior fronto‐occipital fasciculus, superior longitudinal fasciculus II and arcuate fasciculus, increased nodal efficiency in contralateral nodes of frontal–parietal and limbic networks, whereas decreased degree centrality and betweenness centrality in nodes of dorsal temporal lobe and rostral middle frontal gyrus (rMFG). Additionally, when compared GRE with non‐GRE, increased FA in contralateral corticospinal tract (CST) and lower betweenness centrality in paracentral lobule (PCL) in GRE (all p < 0.05 after Bonferroni correction). Conclusion: This study indicates that patients with left frontal DLGG exhibit complex WM reorganization, and the altered regions mainly concentrated in the language, frontal–parietal and limbic networks. Moreover, the preserved integrity in contralateral CST and server decreased nodal betweenness in PCL may be potential neuroimaging markers underlying the occurrence of presurgical seizures of GRE. Poor sleep quality have become one of the most pressing public health problems for undergraduate students. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the relationship between circadian rhythms and sleep quality and the meditating role of health-promoting lifestyles in the relationship of Chinese undergraduate students. A total of 3423 students participated. The online survey consisted of the reduced Morningness-Evening Questionnaire (rMEQ), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile–II (HPLP–II). Logistic regression models were employed. The prevalence of poor sleep quality is 43.03 %. The total mean scores of HPLP – II, PSQI, and rMEQ are 96.94 ± 17.26, 5.20 ± 2.70 and 14.83 ± 2.10, respectively. A significant negative correlation exists between the rMEQ and PSQI scores (r = −0.262, p < 0.001), but a positive correlation exists between the rMEQ and HPLP scores (r = 0.232, p < 0.001). The total and sub-domain scores of HPLP are also negatively correlated with the PSQI scores (r = −[0.166, 0.291], p < 0.001). Mediation analysis demonstrates the mediation of HPLP (indirect effect = −0.036, p < 0.001) on the effect of the rMEQ on PSQI scores that accounts for 13.30 % of the total effect. Cross-sectional design and recall bias in data collection. The effect of circadian rhythm on sleep quality is partially mediated by the health-promoting lifestyle. Recently, we developed a novel microprobe electrospray ionization (μPESI) source and its coupled MS (μPESI-MS/MS) system. Here, we aimed to widely validate the μPESI-MS/MS method for quantitative analysis of drugs in plasma samples. Furthermore, the relationship between the quantitative performance of the μPESI-MS/MS method and the physicochemical properties of target drugs was analyzed. The μPESI-MS/MS methods for quantitative analysis of 5 representative drugs with a relatively wide range of molecular weight, pKa, and log P values were developed and validated. The results showed that the linearity, accuracy, and precision of these methods met the requirements of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guidance. Then a total of 75 drugs from plasma samples were primarily detected using the μPESI-MS/MS methods, among which 48 drugs could be quantitatively measured. Logistics regression suggested that drugs with significantly greater log P and physiological charge had better quantitative performance using the μPESI-MS/MS method. Collectively, these results clearly demonstrate the practical application of the μPESI-MS/MS system as a rapid approach to the quantitative analysis of drugs in plasma samples. Background: The occurrence of Isolated left subclavian artery (ILSA) is relatively rare, ILSA is caused by the persistence of the dorsal segment of the sixth left arch, with regression of the fourth arch artery and interruption of the left dorsal aorta at the distal end of the seventh intersegmental artery on the left side during embryonic development. The left subclavian artery is connected to the pulmonary artery through an arterial duct, which can be closed or unobstructed. This abnormality can lead to congenital subclavian steal syndrome and vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency. Case presentation: We reported three fetuses with ILSA and intracardiac malformation. Among them, one case was suspected to be diagnosed with ILSA by echocardiography, while the other two cases were not diagnosed, but were accidentally discovered during autopsy. We have also conducted a literature review of its prenatal screening, diagnosis, management, and outcomes. Our three cases were tested by WES‐Trio (whole exome sequencing). Worldwide, the ILSA cases reported in English literature have not been detected by WES. And likely pathogenic results were found in our two cases. Although it could not explain the intracardiac malformation we found, it will help to explore the etiology in the future. Conclusions: Prenatal echocardiography detection and diagnosis of ILSA is a new challenge, which has different effects on the prognosis of the fetus. When finding intracardiac malformation with right aortic arch, we need to perform an unconventional view of ultrasound scanning and combine with CDFI to find the origin of the left subclavian artery. A performance enhanced CaptiveSpray differential ion mobility device was designed and constructed by incorporating a circular channel and a gas flow homogenizing channel (GFHC) between the CaptiveSpray ion source and planar differential ion mobility spectrometry (DMS). The GFHC was used to reduce gas flow heterogeneity prior to the entrance of the DMS device. The optimal flared entrance greatly reduces gas flow velocity at the inlet region owing to its relatively large gas inlet interface, which assists in reducing disparities between the minimum and maximum gas velocity along the x-axis. The circular electrode was machined with channels along the x- and y-axis for the passage of auxiliary gas and was applied with a potential to focus the incoming ions from the CaptiveSpray source into the DMS channel. Protein-protein docking reveals the process and product in protein interactions. Typically, a protein docking works with a docking model sampling, and then an evaluation method is used to rank the near-native models out from a large pool of generated decoys. In practice, the evaluation stage is the bottleneck to perform accurate protein docking. In this paper, PointNet, a deep learning algorithm based on point cloud, is applied to evaluate protein docking models. The proposed architecture is able to directly learn deep representations carrying the geometrical properties and atomic attributes from the 3D structural data of protein decoys. (1) Background: The objective of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) for congenital heart defects (CHDs) with different cardiac phenotypes and extracardiac abnormalities (ECAs) and to explore the pathogenic genetic factors of CHDs. (2) Methods: We collected fetuses diagnosed with CHDs by echocardiography at our hospital from January 2012 to December 2021. We analyzed the CMA results of 427 fetuses with CHDs. We then categorized the CHD into different groups according to two dimensions: different cardiac phenotypes and whether it was combined with ECAs. The correlation between the numerical chromosomal abnormalities (NCAs) and copy number variations (CNVs) with CHDs was analyzed. Statistical analyses, including Chi-square tests and t-tests, were performed on the data using IBM SPSS and GraphPad Prism. (3) Results: In general, CHDs with ECAs increased the detection rate for CA, especially the conotruncal defects. CHD combined with the thoracic and abdominal walls and skeletal, thymic and multiple ECAs, were more likely to exhibit CA. Among the CHD phenotypes, VSD and AVSD were associated with NCA, while DORV may be associated with NCA. The cardiac phenotypes associated with pCNVs were IAA (type A and B), RAA, TAPVC, CoA and TOF. In addition, IAA, B, RAA, PS, CoA and TOF were also associated with 22q11.2DS. The length distribution of the CNV was not significantly different between each CHD phenotype. We detected twelve CNV syndromes, of which six syndromes may be related to CHDs. The pregnancy outcome in this study suggests that termination of pregnancy with fetal VSD and vascular abnormality is more dependent on genetic diagnosis, whereas the outcome in other phenotypes of CHDs may be associated with other additional factors. (4) Conclusions: CMA examination for CHDs is still necessary. Urea oxidation (UOR) and methanol oxidation (MOR), both of which have high research value, have the potential to effectively address wastewater pollution and energy crisis problems. A three-dimensional neodymium-dioxide/nickel-selenide-modified nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheet (Nd2O3-NiSe-NC) catalyst is prepared in this study by using mixed freeze-drying, salt-template-assisted technology, and high-temperature pyrolysis. The Nd2O3-NiSe-NC electrode showed good catalytic activity for MOR (peak current density ~145.04 mA cm−2 and low oxidation potential ~1.33 V) and UOR (peak current density ~100.68 mA cm−2 and low oxidation potential ~1.32 V); the catalyst has excellent MOR and UOR characteristics. The electrochemical reaction activity and the electron transfer rate increased because of selenide and carbon doping. Moreover, the synergistic action of neodymium oxide doping, nickel selenide, and the oxygen vacancy generated at the interface can adjust the electronic structure. The doping of rare-earth-metal oxides can also effectively adjust the electronic density of nickel selenide, allowing it to act as a cocatalyst, thus improving the catalytic activity in the UOR and MOR processes. The optimal UOR and MOR properties are achieved by adjusting the catalyst ratio and carbonization temperature. A method to analyze the scattering characteristics of a Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) vortex beam by a low-velocity charge in a steady applied magnetic field is investigated in this paper. Based on the plane wave angular spectrum representation and the electromagnetic radiation theory of a moving charge, the expressions of the scattered field and scattered power per unit solid angle are presented. Considering a low-velocity electron, the distribution of the scattered power per unit solid angle is numerically simulated. The effects of electron motion parameters, beam parameters, and applied magnetic field are discussed in detail. The results show that the longitudinal motion of the electron, which is parallel to the direction of the applied magnetic field, makes the distribution of the scattered power no longer maintain radial consistency but has a concave–convex distribution. Due to the periodicity of the circular motion of the electron in the applied magnetic field, the scattering power distribution pattern consists of many annular lobes. The spectral characteristics of the backscattered field are analyzed by fast Fourier transform. It is confirmed that the scattered field satisfies the rotational and the linear Doppler effects, and the accuracy of the formula provided in this paper is verified. This work lays a foundation for further study of the scattering characteristics of plasma on vortex electromagnetic waves and helps to promote the in-depth development of vortex beams in the field of plasma diagnosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effect and chemical intervention mechanism of edible oregano and clove essential oils (EOs) on heterocyclic amine (HA) formation in roasted large yellow croaker. The results indicated that all oregano and clove EOs minimize the amount of HAs, especially high‐concentration oregano EO, which can reduce Norharman by 99.97% (from 876.3333 ± 11.8462 to 0.2927 ± 0.0038 ng/g), and led other HAs below the detection limit. The addition of EOs, meanwhile, can protect the large yellow croaker against lipid and protein oxidation due to their ability to scavenge peroxyl radicals. We also examined the variation of HA precursors and attempted to explain molecular pathway of EOs inhibiting HA formation. The results provide theoretical support to develop technologies of HA inhibition during fish processing, which is important for food manufacturers and consumers for producing healthier meat products. The peri-tooth root alveolar loss often does not have sufficient space for repair material transplantation and plasticity. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) sheets have an advantage in providing more extracellular matrix (ECM) and may prove to be a new therapeutic consideration for this bone defect repair. The identification of key regulators that stimulate MSCs' osteogenic potential and sheet-derived ECM deposition is the key to promoting its application. In this study, we found that inhibition or overexpression of miR-196a-5p led to a decline or enhancement, respectively, in the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, mineralization, and the levels of osteogenic markers, Osteocalcin (OCN), Dentin Matrix Protein 1 (DMP1), Bone Sialoprotein (BSP), and Dentin Sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) of Wharton's jelly of umbilical cord stem cells (WJCMSCs) in vitro. Moreover, the 5,6-Carboxyfluorescein Diacetate Succinimidyl Ester (CFSE) analysis revealed inhibition of the WJCMSCs' proliferative ability upon miR-196a-5p overexpression. Characterization of the sheet formation by picrosirius red and Masson staining indicated that miR-196a-5p overexpression significantly promoted the collagen content in whole WJCMSC sheet–derived ECM. Furthermore, micro-CT and histopathology results indicated that the miR-196a-5p-overexpressed WJCMSC sheets significantly promoted new bone regeneration and rat calvarial bone defect closure 12 weeks following transplantation. The mRNA microarray analysis of miR-196a-5p-overexpressed WJCMSCs revealed 959 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (34 upregulated and 925 downregulated). Moreover, 241 genes targeted by miR-196a-5p were predicted by using miRNA function websites of which only 19 predicted genes were consistent with the microarray revealed DEGs. Hence, one unrevealed downregulated DEG Serpin Family B Member 2 (SERPINB2) was investigated. And the deletion of SERPINB2 enhanced the ALP activity and mineralization of WJCMSCs in vitro. In conclusion, our study found that miR-196a-5p, as a key regulator, could repress the proliferation tendency, while stimulating osteogenic ability and WJCMSC sheet–derived ECM deposition, thus promoting new bone formation and rat calvarial bone defect closure. Smart new retail mode has rapidly become the hot shopping mode. In order to develop vigorously in the new retail environment, it is urgent for merchants to set up supply chain network reasonably. This paper constructs a supply chain newsvendor model consisting of 1 wholesaler and N retailers. Analyse how channel conversion rate, negotiation ability of supply chain members, number of retailers, and other factors affect the balance among supply chain members when offline demand, online demand, and cross-channel demand exist simultaneously. Combined with the case data of two fast fashion brands, this paper compares and analyses the profit changes of decentralized supply chain and centralized supply chain under the influence of multiple factors. The study shows that there is no absolute optimal supply chain model and the choice of supply chain model will change with the change of influencing factors. However, no matter in which supply chain mode, improving channel conversion rate and controlling the number of retailers are beneficial. In addition, in decentralized supply chain, balance can be achieved among supply chain members so as to achieve Pareto optimality. Wholesalers should take the initiative to promote the transformation of demand among channels, and should not be too strong in member negotiations. This paper analyses the basic characteristics of the supply chain network under the new retail, and establishes the network optimization strategy that is easy to implement, which can help enterprises to carry out the supply network layout more effectively under the smart new retail mode. Background: Multiple lesions are uncommon in brain gliomas, and their pathophysiology is poorly understood. Invasive growth along white matter tracts is an important clinicopathological characteristic of gliomas, and a major factor in a poor therapeutic outcome. Here, we used probabilistic fiber tracking and cluster analysis to investigate the inter-focal connectivity relationships of multiple gliomas, in order to seek inferential evidence of common origin. Methods: MRI scans of 46 patients with multiple gliomas were retrospectively analyzed. Before surgery, all patients underwent multimodal functional MR imaging, including diffusion tensor imaging, enhanced 3D T1-weighted imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging, 1H MR spectroscopy, and dynamic susceptibility contrast perfusion-weighted imaging. Probabilistic fiber tracking was used to quantify white matter connectivity between neoplastic foci. Hierarchical cluster analysis was performed to identify patterns of white matter connection. Results: Cluster analysis reveals two patterns of connectivity, one with smaller, and one with greater, connectivity (2675 ± 1098 versus 30432 ± 22707, p < 0.0001). The two subgroups show significant differences in relative cerebral blood volume (2.31 ± 0.95 versus 1.73 ± 0.48, p = 0.002) and lipid/creatine ratio (0.32 ± 0.22 versus 0.060 ± 0.051, p = 0.006). Conclusion: Two distinct patterns of white matter connection exist in multiple gliomas. Those with lower connectivity tend to have independent origins, and can be termed true multicentric glioma, whereas those with greater connectivity tend to share common origin, and spread along white matter tracts. True multicentric gliomas have higher vascularity and more intratumoral necrosis. These findings may help to develop personalized therapeutic strategies for multiple gliomas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Left–right laterality disorders are a heterogeneous group of disorders caused by an altered position or orientation of the thoracic and intra-abdominal organs and vasculature across the left–right axis. They mainly include situs inversus and heterotaxy. Those disorders are complicated by cardiovascular abnormalities significantly more frequently than situs solitus.In this study, 16 patients with a fetal diagnosis of laterality disorder with congenital heart defects (CHD) were evaluated with a single nucleotide polymorphism array (SNP-arry) combined with whole-exome sequencing (WES).Although the diagnostic rate of copy number variations was 0 and the diagnostic rate of WES was 6.3% (1/16), the likely pathogenic gene DNAH11 and the candidate gene OFD1 were ultimately identified. In addition, novel compound heterozygous mutations in the DNAH11 gene and novel hemizygous variants in the OFD1 gene were found. Among the combined CHD, a single atrium/single ventricle had the highest incidence (50%, 8/16), followed by atrioventricular septal defects (37.5%, 6/16). Notably, two rare cases of common pulmonary vein atresia (CPVA) were also found on autopsy.This study identified the types of CHD with a high incidence in patients with laterality disorders. The chirped pulse amplification technique has enabled the generation of pulses of a few femtosecond duration with peak powers multi-Tera and Peta–Watt in the near infrared. Its implementation to realize even shorter pulse duration, higher energy, and higher repetition rate laser systems relies on overcoming the limitations imposed by laser damage of critical components. In particular, the laser damage of coatings in the amplifiers and in post-compression optics have become a bottleneck. The robustness of optical coatings is typically evaluated numerically through steady-state simulations of electric field enhancement in multilayer stacks. However, this approach cannot capture crucial characteristics of femtosecond laser induced damage (LID), as it only considers the geometry of the multilayer stack and the optical properties of the materials composing the stack. This approach neglects that in the interaction of an ultrashort pulse and the materials there is plasma generation and associated material modifications. Here, we present a numerical approach to estimate the LID threshold of dielectric multilayer coatings based on strong field electronic dynamics. In this dynamic scheme, the electric field propagation, photoionization, impact ionization, and electron heating are incorporated through a finite-difference time-domain algorithm. We applied our method to simulate the LID threshold of bulk fused silica, and of multilayer dielectric mirrors and gratings. The results are then compared with experimental measurements. The salient aspects of our model, such as the implementation of the Keldysh photoionization model, the impact ionization model, the electron collision model for 'low'-temperature, dense plasma, and the LID threshold criterion for few-cycle pulses are discussed. According to China's 14th Five-Year Development Plan, China aims to peak its carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutral by 2060, which will be a major strategy for China to implement in the coming period of time. All kinds of industries need to take the industry characteristics into account and gradually form relative carbon reduction targets according to the National Carbon Summit Action Program. Under the constraints of carbon emission reduction, enterprises face trade-off when making emission reduction decisions. How to systematically optimize the profitable and environmentally friendly decisions, under the consideration of carbon emission production, is gradually becoming a main concern of regulated enterprises. In this paper, a Cournot game model is constructed to explore optimal production carbon abatement decisions for two oligopolistic firms, under the governance of a cap-and-trade mechanism. Real case data collected from China's airlines is an example to test the validity of our model. The qualitative analysis shows that, through a reasonable output and emission reduction investment, companies are capable of efficiently minimizing the negative impact brought about by the carbon trading system. A numerical experiment indicates that the companies on one side can reach a decision equilibrium in some circumstances, but on the other side, there exists a lack of incentive to reduce their emissions. Additional government incentives or increased investment in technological improvements will be needed to encourage companies to further reduce carbon emissions. In this paper, while analyzing the choice of emission reduction strategy for enterprises under the carbon trading system, it also provides effective emission reduction approaches for the government and industry managers, hoping to provide some references for the establishment of emission reduction system and policy formulation. Histone acetylation is a key histone post‐translational modification that shapes chromatin structure, dynamics, and function. Bromodomain (BRD) proteins, the readers of acetyl‐lysines, are located in the center of the histone acetylation‐signaling network. How they regulate DNA repair and genome stability remains poorly understood. Here, a conserved function of the yeast Bromodomain Factor 1 (Bdf1) and its human counterpart TAF1 is reported in promoting DNA double‐stranded break repair by homologous recombination (HR). Depletion of either yeast BDF1 or human TAF1, or disruption of their BRDs impairs DNA end resection, Replication Protein A (RPA) and Rad51 loading, and HR repair, causing genome instability and hypersensitivity to DNA damage. Mechanistically, it is shown that Bdf1 preferentially binds the DNA damage‐induced histone H4 acetylation (H4Ac) via the BRD motifs, leading to its chromatin recruitment. Meanwhile, Bdf1 physically interacts with RPA, and this interaction facilitates RPA loading in the chromatin context and the subsequent HR repair. Similarly, TAF1 also interacts with H4Ac or RPA. We present a kind of single-shot common-path phase-shifting digital holography realized by both a holographic grating and a Fibonacci-sieve array. A test object wave is first split into multiple image copies by the holographic grating placed at the Fourier plane in a Kepler telescope. Then, the image copies are directed onto their own sieves, which can generate a pair of axial foci with customized phase shifts. This way, three phase-shifting sub-holograms are captured by a single exposure and extracted to reconstruct the original complex amplitude of the test object. The proposed method is free of pre-calibration and mechanical movement during the measuring process, so the imaging speed and robustness are significantly improved. The common path is less sensitive to external interference than an in-line system. A measurement of a USAF1951 test target is presented, and the results show the high resolution and stability over 24 h at least, which gives it potential in application to high-resolution dynamic measurements, such as biological microscopy. A multifunctional supramolecular complex is reported for the integrated multiple magnetic resonance imaging/computed X-ray tomography (MRI/CT) imaging and photothermal therapy, wherein a gadolinium-substituted paramagnetic polyoxometalate cluster and food-borne antioxidant peptides identified from the trepang protein hydrolysates are introduced. The as-prepared complex maintained an uniform particle size and much better biocompatibility, and is an ideal candidate for the in vivo applications. The complex allows for T1-weighted MR imaging and a high Hounsfield unit value for enhanced CT imaging. Interestingly, we demonstrate that the complex possesses outstanding photothermal cancer-killing effects due to its high photothermal conversion efficiency under the exposure of an NIR laser and enhanced antibacterial activity to avoid bacterial infection from the thermal therapeutic process. These results indicate that the supramolecular complex platform exhibit potential for accurate medical diagnosis at an early stage and effective eradication of the tumor cells. Background: Pseudohypoaldosteronism type II (PHAII), also called Gordon syndrome, is a rare hereditary disease caused by variants in the WNK1, WNK4, KLHL3 and CUL3 genes. The combination of PHAII with hyperthyroidism and secondary hyperparathyroidism has not been reported previously. Case presentation: A 54-year-old female with recently diagnosed Graves' disease presented hyperkalemia, hypertension, hypercalciuria, elevated levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and normal renal function. PHAII was established based on the finding of a homozygous variant (c.328 A > G, T110A) in the KLHL3 gene. Low-dose thiazide diuretics normalized her potassium, calcium and PTH. Conclusions: PHAII caused by a KLHL3 variant can affect adults later in life. This diagnosis should be considered in patients with hypertension, consistent hyperkalemia, and normal eGFR and can be corrected by thiazides. The patient also had hyperthyroidism and secondary hyperparathyroidism. The latter was also corrected by thiazide treatment. The hyperthyroidism was assumed to be unrelated to PHAII. Subnanometer nanowires (SNWs) refer to nanowires with diameters close to the size of a single crystal cell. SNWs show not only qualitative change in nature compared to the bulk materials or nanomaterials with larger size but also show several advantages in assembly and processing due to their polymer‐analog properties. However, the synthesis of SNWs is still a great challenge. Herein, a synthesis method of SNWs assisted by polyoxometalates is developed. Based on this method, several kinds of SNWs are prepared successfully, and the properties of the SNWs can be regulated efficiently and effectively, demonstrating the extensibility of this synthesis method. Among these SNWs, Bi2O3–PMoO SNWs show good photothermal conversion performance and can be processed into freestanding and flexible films through the wet‐spinning method. The Bi2O3–PMoO SNW films show good performance in solar steam generation and seawater desalination. The average stable evaporation rate can reach 1.38 kg m−2 h−1, and the efficiency is ≈91.1% under 1 sun illumination. The concentration of ions in the desalted seawater with the Bi2O3–PMoO SNWs film are reduced by four orders of magnitude, meeting the quality standards of drinking water and potential for practical utilization of solar energy in the seawater desalination. Hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) is a versatile bioanalytical technique for protein analysis. Since the reliability of HDX-MS analysis considerably depends on the retention of deuterium labels in the post-labeling workflow, deuterium/hydrogen (D/H) back exchange prevention strategies, including decreasing the pH, temperature, and exposure time to protic sources of the deuterated samples, are widely adopted in the conventional HDX-MS protocol. Herein, an alternative and effective back exchange prevention strategy based on the encapsulation of a millimeter droplet of a labeled peptide solution in a water-immiscible organic solvent (cyclohexane) is proposed. Cyclohexane was used to prevent the undesirable uptake of water by the droplet from the atmospheric vapor through the air–water interface. Using the pepsin digest of deuterated myoglobin, our results show that back exchange kinetics of deuterated peptides is retarded in a millimeter droplet as compared to that in the bulk solution. Performing pepsin digestion directly in a water-in-oil droplet at room temperature (18–21 °C) was found to preserve more deuterium labels than that in the bulk digestion with an ice-water bath. Based on the present findings, it is proposed that keeping deuterated peptides in the form of water-in-oil droplets during the post-labelling workflow will facilitate the preservation of deuterium labels on the peptide backbone and thereby enhance the reliability of the H/D exchange data. Micropattern of bioactive substances in food, such as functional protein and enzyme immobilization, play a crucial role in catalysis, proteomics, tissue engineering, nutrition transportation and biological detection. Currently, various techniques have been reported for the immobilization of bioactive substances on solid but the fabricated methods are often not facile and universal. In this study, we overcome these problems to localized capture ovalbumin (OVA) and trypsin (Try) efficiently by fabricating patterned porous film via simple breath figure approach. Upon optimization of preparation conditions, ordered honeycomb porous film were obtained. We confirmed the morphology and investigated thermostability and surface wettability of porous film. The immobilization of OVA and Try was confirmed by confocal laser scanning microscopy and SDS‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, respectively. To our best knowledge, this work is the first report on patterning and trapping of food protein and enzyme via self‐organized patterned porous film. Our findings are essential for establishing a new convenient and efficient route to design food protein/enzyme‐trapped porous film materials, which opens a new sustainable way for food protein/enzyme immobilization and expected to used in the food industry, biological applications, and so on. In this paper, a discrete Latin hypercube sampling immune genetic algorithm is constructed to optimize the omni-channel supply chain network. Through the data processing by discrete Latin hypercube sampling, we can reduce the sample size while preserving the data characteristics. On this basis, we adopt the immune genetic algorithm to solve the multi-objective and multi-mechanism supply chain network optimization problem. To overcome these obstacles and using the similarities between sub‐1 nm nanowires (NWs) and linear polymers, we successfully fabricated anisotropic, transparent, flexible, and stable (ATFS) NW films with great potential for optical applications through a wet‐spinning method. The NW films show birefringence, and their birefractive index is higher than that of many polymers. They also showed polarized absorption of UV light and anisotropic scattering of visible light. The human fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) highly expressed in tumours is an important factor to promote tumour angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. A disulphide-stabilized diabody (ds-Diabody) could specifically target FGF-2 and show its advantages in inhibition of tumour angiogenesis and growth. It is very important for antibody drugs to confirm the fine epitope. Here, theoretical structure models of FGF-2 and antibody were built by homology modelling. The amino acid residues in the interaction interface of antigen and antibody were analysed by molecular docking. The potential epitope was predicted by homology modelling and molecular docking of antigen–antibody and site-directed mutation assays of alanine scanning. The predicted epitope was verified by antigen mutagenesis and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The epitope mapping assay showed that the epitope of ds-Diabody against FGF-2 was defined by the discontinuous sites including six amino acid residues (P23, Q65, R69, G70, Y82 and R118). The results showed that the epitope was localized in the interaction interface of FGF-2 and ds-Diabody. The fine epitope mapping provided the important information for understanding the inhibition activity of ds-Diabody against FGF-2 and helping in the further development of ds-Diabody against FGF-2 as a potentially promising antibody drug for future cancer therapy. Background Meningeal melanoma is a rare tumor of the central nervous system, whose amelanotic variant is called "amelanotic meningeal melanoma" (AMM). AMM does not produce melanin and therefore does not exhibit typical short T1 and short T2 signal on magnetic resonance imaging and thus can be easily misdiagnosed and be inappropriately managed. To date, only 4 AMM cases have been reported in the English literature. Here, we report the fifth case. Case Description A 26-year-old female patient presented with a 4-month history of progressive headache and nausea, the conventional magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a posterior fossa mass accompanied by diffuse leptomeningeal dissemination. Repeated cerebrospinal fluid cytology screening showed negative results. The functional magnetic resonance examinations, including diffusion-weighted imaging, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and dynamic susceptibility contrast perfusion-weighted imaging, provided complementary information. The final diagnosis of AMM was made by immunohistochemistry. Despite gross total excision of the tumor, the disease progressed, and the patient died 10 months after diagnosis. Conclusions Our experience with this case demonstrated that meningeal melanoma should be included in the differential diagnosis when an intracranial mass is accompanied by leptomeningeal dissemination, and especially when proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy and dynamic susceptibility contrast perfusion-weighted imaging indicate a malignant tumor whereas diffusion-weighted imaging does not. • A novel route was developed to inhibit HAAs and AGEs in roasted mackerel by adding vegetable extracts. • Vegetable extracts can not only promoting quality and avoiding nutrition loss of mackerel. • Variation of precursors revealed the involved HAAs inhibition mechanism. The formation of hazardous substances, heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) and advanced glycation end products (AGEs), in roasted mackerel with different cooking temperatures (180, 210, 240 °C) and vegetable extracts (celery, carrot and yam extracts) in a preheated oven was investigated. The results indicated that the introduction of vegetable extracts had inhibitory effects on HAAs and AGEs during thermal processing, especially celery extracts. Benefiting from the addition of vegetable extracts, the roasted mackerel keep high quality against lipid/protein oxidation, avoids nutrition loss of polyunsaturated fatty acids, and flavor is promoted. We also examined the variation of key precursors, including creatine, creatinine, reducing sugars, amino acids and attempted to explain the molecular pathway of inhibition of the formation of the hazardous substances by vegetable extracts. The results provide theoretical support to develop technologies for inhibiting hazardous substances formation during fish processing, which is important for food manufacturers and consumers for producing healthier meat products. A novel three-dimensional (3D) superstructure of cobalt hydroxide carbonate assembled from nanoneedles has been synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method. Individuals who are socially avoidant actively remove themselves from opportunities for social interaction and have a strong desire for solitude. Although social avoidance is associated with a host of adjustment difficulties, its neural substrates remain under-explored. To address this gap, we conducted an exploratory study to compare electroencephalography (EEG) frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA) scores during processing emotional facial stimuli in socially avoidant and non-withdrawn comparison individuals. From an original sample of N = 384 undergraduate students, 25 avoidant and 27 comparison individuals were identified. For this subset of participants, EEG modulations and self-reported experience ratings during a picture processing task were assessed. Among the results, the socially avoidant group's ratings of positive stimuli were significantly lower than the non-withdrawn comparison group. The socially avoidant group also had significantly lower FAA scores in response to positive stimuli than the comparison group. Further, asymmetry scores of the comparison group in the positive conditions were higher than in the negative and neutral conditions. However, there were no significant differences between these three conditions in the socially avoidant group. Our results suggest that socially avoidant individuals may eschew interpersonal relationships because of a relatively greater right hemisphere cortical activity, which may contribute to a withdrawal motivation when confronted with negative emotional stimuli in social contexts. • Frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA) is an effective biomarker of emotional processing. • Greater right FAA indicates avoidance motivation and emotional dysfunction. • Socially avoidant group showed significantly right FAA during emotional processing. • Socially avoidant group had significantly smaller FAA scores than comparison group. We report a simple and large-scale synthetic method of hierarchically porous manganese cobalt oxides without using any template that exhibit enhanced electrochemical performance compared with the nanoparticles counterpart. The hierarchically porous structures consist of close-packed large grains within wormlike hierarchical pores resulting from the piling of the nanoparticles wall. The calcination container conditions are of key importance to affect the morphology and structure of the manganese cobalt oxides. In order to check the fundamental significance of hierarchically porous structure, pristine manganese cobalt oxides without coating any conducting agent are tested as the lithium-ion battery anodes. The cycling stability and rate performance of the hierarchically porous electrode are much better than that of the nanoparticles counterpart with specific capacity as high as 413 mAh g after 100 cycles at a current density of 300 mA g. For the purpose of explaining the improved electrochemical performance of the hierarchically porous materials, both electrodes were analyzed with cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy measurement. We found that the close-packed morphology and the hierarchically porous structure are responsible for the volume change accommodation and electron-contact maintenance leading to the high specific capacity, cycling stability, and rate performance. Background Acetaminophen (APAP) is a conventional drug widely used in the clinic because of its antipyretic-analgesic effects. However, accidental or intentional APAP overdoses induce liver injury and even acute liver failure (ALF). Astaxanthin (ASX) is the strongest antioxidant in nature that shows preventive and therapeutic properties, such as ocular protection, anti-tumor, anti-diabetes, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects. The aim of present study was to determine whether ASX pretreatment provides protection against APAP-induced liver failure. Methods Male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into 7 groups, including control, oil, ASX (30 mg/kg or 60 mg/kg), APAP and APAP + ASX (30 mg/kg or 60 mg/kg) groups. Saline, olive oil and ASX were administered for 14 days. The APAP and APAP + ASX groups were given a peritoneal injection of 700 mg/kg or 300 mg/kg APAP to determine the 5-day survival rate and for further observation, respectively. Blood and liver samples were collected to detect alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), inflammation, oxidative stress and antioxidant systems, and to observe histopathologic changes and key proteins in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family. Results ASX pretreatment before APAP increased the 5-day survival rate in a dose-dependent manner and reduced the ALT, AST, hepatic necrosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, lipid peroxidation (LPO), oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory factors. ASX protected against APAP toxicity by inhibiting the depletion of glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Administration of ASX did not change the expression of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and P38. However, phosphorylation of JNK, ERK and P38 was reduced, consistent with the level of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and TNF receptor-associated factor 2 (TRAF2). Conclusion ASX provided protection for the liver against APAP hepatotoxicity by alleviating hepatocyte necrosis, blocking ROS generation, inhibiting oxidative stress, and reducing apoptosis by inhibiting the TNF-α-mediated JNK signal pathway and by phosphorylation of ERK and P38, which made sense in preventing and treating liver damage. In this study, a uniform complex dual micelle bearing a gadolinium-substituted polyoxometalate core, a hydrophobic middle, and a biocompatible organic shell, which exhibits a uniform size and definite molecular weight and chemical composition, is constructed through a simple two-step process for use as a fluorescence and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent. A paramagnetic polyoxometalate cluster, K13[Gd(β2-SiW11O39)2], is first encapsulated with a cationic 3-generation dendron ( D-3) bearing triethylene glycol monomethyl ether terminal groups through ionic substitution. The formed electrostatic complex, ( D-3)13[Gd(β2-SiW11O39)2] ( D-GdSiW), which displays an ambivalent micellar structure, is then demonstrated to act as a suitable carrier for the uptake of cationic fluorescent dyes, forming a loaded complex. The dye-loaded complex D-GdSiW-D is thus proven to display high relaxivity as a contrast agent, maintaining its structural stability under physiological conditions with low cell cytotoxicity. Confocal laser scanning microscopic observation also demonstrates the fluorescence imaging property of the prepared complex upon consumption by MCF-7 cells. Both in vivo fluorescence imaging and MRI further confirm that the complex micelle with dual micellar structure may be a suitable liver-specific contrast agent for clinical diagnosis. Background and Aim Hepatoprotectants are routinely prescribed in China to prevent anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury (ATLI). However, their biological mechanisms have not yet been clearly demonstrated. This study aims to evaluate the preventive effects of Silybum marianum against drug-induced liver injury among tuberculosis patients and to provide clinical guidelines for tuberculosis management in China. Methods A randomized controlled trial was performed in Jiangsu, China. Tuberculosis patients were randomly allocated to the experimental group (anti-tuberculosis therapy plus S. marianum capsule) or the control group (anti-tuberculosis therapy plus vitamin C tablet). The primary outcomes were the occurrence of probable and possible ATLI, the peak aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase ratio and the maximum altered alkaline phosphatase or gamma-glutamyl transferase. Results The final analysis comprised 183 cases in the experiment group and 187 cases in the control group. The risk of developing probable ATLI was not significantly different between the two groups. During the follow-up period, 43.72% of cases in the experiment group and 35.83% of cases in the control group were determined to have possible ATLI (relative risk = 1.23, 95% confidence interval: 0.94-1.54). When using a more strict definition of possible ATLI, the adjusted relative risk (95% confidence interval) was 1.76 (1.14-2.56). The risks of adverse drug reactions, prolonged treatment length, taking second-line tuberculosis drugs, and the clearance of tuberculosis bacteria were similar between the two groups. Conclusions No significant preventive effect of silymarin was found for either lowering the risk of liver injury or boosting the positive outcomes. Rationale: Dissociation of biomolecules by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) generates a variety of fragment ions which provide useful information for the structural characterization of biomolecules. Different fragmentation strategies result in different mass spectra for the same molecule and thus provide distinct features. Charge carriers play important roles in determining the dissociation pathways of the target precursor ions. The use of various transition metals ions as charge carriers of glycopeptide and glycan might provide additional structural information and needs to be investigated. Methods: A 9.4 T SolariX FTICR mass spectrometer was used for collision‐induced dissociation (CID) of glycopeptide and glycan. Group IIB metal ions, including Zn2+, Cd2+ and Hg2+, were used as charge carriers. Glycopeptide NLTK‐M5G2 and glycan G1F were used as the model systems. Results: For Zn2+‐ and Cd2+‐adducted species, cross‐ring cleavages, glycosidic cleavages and cleavages along the peptide backbone could be obtained. There is a high degree of similarity in their CID spectra with that of Mg2+ ion‐adducted glycopeptide species. For Hg2+‐adducted species, only glycosidic cleavages were observed in high abundance. The formation of doubly‐charged ions (M2+) and a series of [f−H]+ fragments indicated unique dissociation pathways for Hg2+‐adducted glycopeptide. Conclusions: Zn2+ and Cd2+‐adducted glycopeptide species produced similar dissociation CID spectra, whereas Hg2+‐adducted species produced significantly different CID spectra. Similar CID dissociation features were also observed for Group IIB metal ions adducted glycan species. A genome-wide association study in the Chinese Han population has identified several novel genetic variants of the serine racemase ( SRR) gene in type 2 diabetes. Our purpose was to systematically evaluate the contribution of SRR variants in the Chinese Han population. rs391300 and rs4523957 in SRR were genotyped respectively in the two independent populations. A meta-analysis was used to estimate the effects of SRR in 21,305 Chinese Han individuals. Associations between single-nucleotide polymorphisms and diabetes-related phenotypes were analyzed among 2,615 newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients and 5,029 controls. Neither rs391300 nor rs4523957 were associated with type 2 diabetes in populations. Furthermore, meta-analysis did not confirm an association between type 2 diabetes and SRR. In the controls, rs391300-A and rs4523957-G were associated with higher 30-min plasma glucose in an oral glucose tolerance test. In this study, we report that the fluorescence emission intensity of the AIEgens–SNW dispersion is dramatically enhanced due to the flexibility of SNWs. Furthermore, we fabricate two kinds of functional films with circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) and linearly polarized luminescence (LPL) activities. The construction of CPL materials didn't require any chiral chemicals. The construction of LPL materials didn't require an additional stretching process. Three dissociation methods, including collision-induced dissociation (CID), electron capture dissociation (ECD), and electronic excitation dissociation (EED), were systematically compared for structural characterization of doubly charged glycopeptide. CID produced distinctively different tandem mass spectra for glycopeptide adducted with different charge carriers. Protonated species produced mainly glycosidic cleavages in high abundance. CID of magnesiated glycopeptide formed more cross-ring cleavages, whereas doubly sodiated species produced cleavages at both glycan and peptide moieties. The effect of charge carriers on the fragmentation in ECD and EED was lower than that in CID. ECD produced mainly peptide backbone cleavages but limited cleavages at the glycan moiety, whereas EED of glycopeptide resulted in extensive fragmentation throughout the molecular ion regardless of the charge carriers. Magnesiated species gave, however, more cross-ring cleavages than other charge carriers did. These results demonstrated that EED of magnesiated species could be used as a one-step dissociation method for comprehensive structural analysis of glycopeptides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
