Infants are exceptionally fragile and physically vulnerable. Continuous monitoring of their vital characteristics and physiological parameters is vital for assessing their exact health status. The progressive achievements of bioelectrical, biophysical, biochemical and hybrid soft monitoring technologies in infant are discussed. We offer insights into the remaining challenges and translational hurdles of soft electronics for clinical-grade infant monitoring from the benchtop to the bedside. Whereas modern infant health monitoring is carried out with dedicated facilities in controlled hospital settings, they are associated with several issues such as potential iatrogenic injuries, barriers for skin-to-skin parental bonding, and even complications during basic clinical tasks. Recently, soft electronics have become an accessory and mobile infant monitoring platform with remarkable advantages over existing technologies. This review comprehensively summarizes the research advances on soft electronics for advanced infant monitoring. We first introduce the physiological characteristics from anatomy, diseases, and treatments of infants. In accordance with these characteristics, we discuss the progressive achievements of soft bioelectrical, biophysical, biochemical, and hybrid monitoring technologies for infants. In addition, we offer insights into the remaining challenges and future directions of a soft electronics based intelligent system for clinical-grade infant monitoring from sensor design, data processing, power supply, and digital interactions in the era of Internet of Things. This article presents techniques used to observe the shear behaviour of modified Z-shaped concrete specimens, experimental results, and a method proposed to classify the shear cracking pattern of a concrete bridge based on acoustic emission (AE). Z-shaped specimens under shear were designed with steel plate reinforcement. A finite element (FE) model for this specimen was developed to validate the concrete crack propagation. AE parameters, including the peak amplitude, counts, cumulative energy, average frequency (AF) and rise angle (RA), were found to successfully correlate with the observed cracking process in the specimens. A cluster analysis based on the K-means algorithm was proposed to automatically classify the AE signal into tensile and shear clusters. An existing bridge underwent reinforcement and then testing under two test scenarios. AE signals were detected at the web of the bridge under heavy truck loads or full random traffic flows. Using the proposed crack classification showed that the signals from the bridge belonged to shear crack clusters characterized by lower AE energy. Thus, this work developed an AE method to classify cracks in concrete shear tests and extended the method to classify the shear cracks in a bridge to provide an early warning of future failure. Serious blunt chest trauma usually induces hemothorax, pneumothorax, and rib fractures. More studies have claimed that early video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery with surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) results in a good prognosis in patients with major trauma. This study aimed to verify the outcomes in patients with chest trauma whether SSRF was performed. Consecutive patients who were treated in a medical center in Taiwan, for traumatic events between January 2015 and June 2020, were retrospectively reviewed. This study focused on patients with major trauma and thoracic injuries, and they were divided into groups based on whether they received SSRF. We used electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to evaluate the change of ventilation conditions. Different scores used for the evaluation of trauma severity were also compared in this study. Among the 8396 patients who were included, 1529 (18.21%) had major trauma with injury severity score > 16 and were admitted to the intensive care unit initially. A total of 596 patients with chest trauma were admitted, of whom 519 (87%) survived. Younger age and a lower trauma score (including injury severity scale, new injury severity score, trauma and injury severity score, and revised trauma score) account for better survival rates. Moreover, 74 patients received SSRF. They had a shorter intensive care unit (ICU) stay (5.24, p = 0.045) and better performance in electrical impedance tomography (23.46, p < 0.001). In patients with major thoracic injury, older age and higher injury survival scale account for higher mortality rate. Effective surgical stabilization of rib fractures shortened the ICU stay and helped achieve better performance in EIT. Thoracoscope-assisted rib fixation is suggested in severe trauma cases. Background: The aberrant secretion and excessive deposition of type I collagen (Col1) are important factors in the pathogenesis of myocardial fibrosis in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). However, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying the synthesis and secretion of Col1 remain unclear. Methods and results: RNA-sequencing analysis revealed an increased HtrA serine peptidase 1 (HTRA1) expression in patients with DCM, which is strongly correlated with myocardial fibrosis. Consistent findings were observed in both human and mouse tissues by immunoblotting, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence analyses. Pearson's analysis showed a markedly positive correlation between HTRA1 level and myocardial fibrosis indicators, including extracellular volume fraction (ECV), native T1, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), in patients with DCM. In vitro experiments showed that the suppression of HTRA1 inhibited the conversion of cardiac fibroblasts into myofibroblasts and decreased Col1 secretion. Further investigations identified the role of HTRA1 in promoting the formation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) exit sites, which facilitated the transportation of Col1 from the ER to the Golgi apparatus, thereby increasing its secretion. Conversely, HTRA1 knockdown impeded the retention of Col1 in the ER, triggering ER stress and subsequent induction of ER autophagy to degrade misfolded Col1 and maintain ER homeostasis. In vivo experiments using adeno-associated virus-serotype 9-shHTRA1-green fluorescent protein (AAV9-shHTRA1-GFP) showed that HTRA1 knockdown effectively suppressed myocardial fibrosis and improved left ventricular function in mice with DCM. Conclusions: The findings of this study provide valuable insights regarding the treatment of DCM-associated myocardial fibrosis and highlight the therapeutic potential of targeting HTRA1-mediated collagen secretion. Heart transplantation is the gold standard for treating patients with advanced heart failure. Although improvements in immunosuppressive therapies have significantly reduced the frequency of cardiac graft rejection, the incidences of T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR) and antibody-mediated rejection remain almost unchanged. A four-archetype analysis (4AA) model, developed by Philip F. Halloran, illustrated this problem well. It provided a new dimension to improve the accuracy of diagnoses and an independent system for recalibrating the histology guidelines. However, this model was based on the invasive method of endocardial biopsy, which undoubtedly increased the postoperative risk of heart transplant patients. Currently, little is known regarding the associated genes and specific functions of the different phenotypes. We performed bioinformatics analysis (using machine-learning methods and the WGCNA algorithm) to screen for hub-specific genes related to different phenotypes, based Gene Expression Omnibus accession number GSE124897. More immune cell infiltration was observed with the ABMR, TCMR, and injury phenotypes than with the stable phenotype. Hub-specific genes for each of the four archetypes were verified successfully using an external test set (accession number GSE2596). Logistic-regression models based on TCMR-specific hub genes and common hub genes were constructed with accurate diagnostic utility (area under the curve > 0.95). RELA, NFKB1, and SOX14 were identified as transcription factors important for TCMR/injury phenotypes and common genes, respectively. Additionally, 11 Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs were chosen from the DrugBank Database for each four-archetype model. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors may be a promising new option for transplant rejection treatment. KRAS signaling in cardiac transplant rejection is worth further investigation. Our results showed that heart transplant rejection subtypes can be accurately diagnosed by detecting expression of the corresponding specific genes, thereby enabling precise treatment or medication. Textile‐based generators that can convert low‐grade energy from the human body or environment into sustainable electricity have generated immense scientific interest in self‐powered wearable applications. However, their low power density and environmental suitability have extremely restricted their portable applications in complex and mutable environments. Herein, an asymmetric sandwich structure between molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)‐carbonized silks (MCs) and MoS2/MXene–Cottons (MMCs) to construct efficient thermo–hydroelectric generators (THEGs) that synergistically harvest heat‐moisture energy to generate considerable electricity is rationally designed. Notably, the large surface area of MoS2/MXene van der Waals heterojunctions (vdWhs) enables efficient charge collection, and the vertical MoS2 nanosheet arrays supply abundant nanochannels for a highly efficient hydration effect, generating an output power density of 32.26 µW cm−2 after wetting with deionized water. Combined with the sensitive temperature recognition ability with a Seebeck coefficient of 23.5 µV K−1, the application possibilities of these prepared THEGs in the mutual conversion of fingertip temperature/language, and the monitoring of the human physiological state is foresee. Background: The recently identified methylation patterns specific to cell type allows the tracing of cell death dynamics at the cellular level in health and diseases. This study used COVID-19 as a disease model to investigate the efficacy of cell-specific cell-free DNA (cfDNA) methylation markers in reflecting or predicting disease severity or outcome. Methods: Whole genome methylation sequencing of cfDNA was performed for 20 healthy individuals, 20 cases with non-hospitalized COVID-19 and 12 cases with severe COVID-19 admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). Differentially methylated regions (DMRs) and gene ontology pathway enrichment analyses were performed to explore the locus-specific methylation difference between cohorts. The proportion of cfDNA derived from lung and immune cells to a given sample (i.e. tissue fraction) at cell-type resolution was estimated using a novel algorithm, which reflects lung injuries and immune response in COVID-19 patients and was further used to evaluate clinical severity and patient outcome. Results: COVID‑19 patients had globally reduced cfDNA methylation level compared with healthy controls. Compared with non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients, the cfDNA methylation pattern was significantly altered in severe patients with the identification of 11,156 DMRs, which were mainly enriched in pathways related to immune response. Markedly elevated levels of cfDNA derived from lung and more specifically alveolar epithelial cells, bronchial epithelial cells, and lung endothelial cells were observed in COVID-19 patients compared with healthy controls. Compared with non-hospitalized patients or healthy controls, severe COVID-19 had significantly higher cfDNA derived from B cells, T cells and granulocytes and lower cfDNA from natural killer cells. Moreover, cfDNA derived from alveolar epithelial cells had the optimal performance to differentiate COVID-19 with different severities, lung injury levels, SOFA scores and in-hospital deaths, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.958, 0.941, 0.919 and 0.955, respectively. Conclusion: Severe COVID-19 has a distinct cfDNA methylation signature compared with non-hospitalized COVID-19 and healthy controls. Cell type-specific cfDNA methylation signature enables the tracing of COVID-19 related cell deaths in lung and immune cells at cell-type resolution, which is correlated with clinical severities and outcomes, and has extensive application prospects to evaluate tissue injuries in diseases with multi-organ dysfunction. Background: Adenomyosis is a benign disorder characterized by the presence of ectopic endometrial glands and stroma within the myometrium. The main clinical manifestations of adenomyosis are dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and infertility, which affect patients' quality of life. Recently, with advancements in imaging techniques, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasonography have become the main diagnostic tools for adenomyosis. In addition to the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of adenomyosis, ultrasonography can also be used to evaluate the severity of adenomyosis. The emergence of new techniques, such as elastography and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS), has significantly improved the accuracy of ultrasound-based diagnosis of adenomyosis. These two imaging tools can also be used for the differential diagnosis of adenomyosis and the evaluation of treatment efficacy after medication or ablation procedure. Objective: we review the efficacy of ultrasonography as a diagnostic tool for adenomyosis. We also aim to introduce the potential of ultrasound imaging in the evaluation of the severity of this disease, as well as the application of elastography and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in its diagnosis. Background: Esophageal diverticulum (ED) is an uncommon structural disorder with heterogenous manifestations and elusive pathophysiology. Our aim was to investigate esophageal motility and associated symptom profiles in patients with ED based on high-resolution impedance manometry (HRIM). Methods: Consecutive patients with ED referred to our motility laboratory between 2015 to 2022 were identified in our electronic database. All patients were evaluated based on an upper endoscopy, HRIM, and standardized symptom questionnaires. Patients with ED were further stratified into upper, middle, and lower (epiphrenic) cases. Esophageal motility was evaluated with HRIM and the updated Chicago Classification v4.0. Results: Twenty-four patients with ED (9 upper, 4 middle, and 11 epiphrenic) were analyzed. Patients with ED were generally older (mean: 65 ± 13.3 years) and predominantly women (58.3%). Most ED cases were unilaterally located (95.8%) and left-side predominant (62.5%). Mean symptom duration was 20 months (range: 1–120) and the most common symptoms were dysphagia (70.8%) and regurgitation (37.5%). Erosive esophagitis was noted in 16 patients (69.6%), while barium stasis was noted in 5 patients (20.8%). Fourteen patients (58.3%) were diagnosed with esophageal motility disorders using HRIM, with achalasia being the most common diagnosis (n = 5, 20.8%). Patients with epiphrenic diverticulum had significantly higher symptom scores and achalasia prevalence. Conclusion: Patients with ED tended to be older and was associated with a high prevalence of EMD. Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a common and severe complication of diabetes that can lead to end-stage renal disease with no cure. The first-line drugs recommended by clinical guidelines fail to achieve satisfactory effects for people with DKD. A Chinese herbal medicine Tangshen Qushi Formula (TQF) shows preliminary efficacy and safety in preserving renal function for people with DKD, but the effects on comprehensive renal outcomes remain unclear. We will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of TQF herbs and their compounds identified from ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-MS/MS in diabetic animal models with renal outcomes. Methods: This protocol complies with the guideline Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols. We will include studies investigating the effects of TQF herbs and compounds on diabetic rats or mice with renal outcomes. Six electronic databases will be searched from their inception to February 2023. Quality assessment will be conducted using SYRCLE's risk of bias tool. Standardized or weighted mean differences will be estimated for renal outcomes (creatinine, urea, proteinuria, histological changes, oxidative stress, inflammation, and kidney fibrosis). Data will be pooled using random-effects models. Heterogeneity across studies will be expressed as I2. Sensitivity analyses will explore treatment effects in adjusted models and within subgroups. Funnel plots and Egger's test will be used to explore publication bias. Discussion: The results of this review will provide valuable insights into the potential effects of TQF in managing DKD. The limitation is that the included studies will be animal studies from specific databases, and the interpretation of the findings must be cautious. Sensitive detection of glucose is important for public health, but non-enzymatic glucose biosensors still face significant challenges. In this paper, a novel and sensitive non-enzymatic glucose sensor was developed by in situ preparation of CuO nanorod-supported NiCo LDH nanosheet arrays on copper foam (CuO@NiCo LDH NSAs/CF). Because the hierarchical core–shell nanostructure provides more active sites and increases the exposed surface area of the catalyst, the catalytic activity of the electrode was significantly increased. As a working electrode, the CuO@NiCo LDH NSAs/CF catalyst showed good glucose sensing performance in a linear range of 0.6 μM–3 mM and a detection limit of 0.16 μM (S/N = 3). The management of endometriosis has been complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. We aimed to introduce the establishment and application of a new follow-up method during the COVID-19 pandemic—the electronic follow-up (e-follow-up) platform for endometriosis—and to test the applicability of the platform-based follow-up management model and patient satisfaction. We used the platform for information entry and post-operative follow-up of 152 patients with endometriosis from January 2021 to August 2022, and compared patients' Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Visual Analogue Score (VAS) (range: 0 − 10, indicating: no pain-extreme pain) scores preoperatively and after 6-month of follow-up, together with recording patients' follow-up satisfaction and number of recurrence of lesions. Eventually, the SDS, SAS, and VAS scores were significantly lower than those at pre-surgery (p <.001), and the follow-up satisfaction rate reached 100%, with 91.41% expressing great satisfaction. The cumulative number of recurrences was 2 out of 138. Follow-up using this platform reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, enabled more efficient access to healthcare resources for patients with endometriosis, improved the efficiency of follow-up management, met the mental health needs of the patients. This prospective cohort study aimed to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of goserelin 10.8 mg administered trimonthly with goserelin 3.6 mg administered monthly in premenopausal females with symptomatic adenomyosis. We recruited 139 premenopausal females with adenomyosis who complained of dysmenorrhea and/or menorrhagia. The first group (n = 70) received a single subcutaneous injection of goserelin 10.8 mg, and the second group (n = 69) received monthly subcutaneous goserelin 3.6 mg administered for 3 months. Follow-up was performed at the outpatient department after 12 weeks. Ultimately, 130 patients completed the study, including 68 and 62 patients in the goserelin 10.8 mg (n = 70) and 3.6 mg (n = 69) groups, respectively. We observed a significant decrease in the dysmenorrhea (NRS) score, uterine volume, and cancer antigen 125 (CA125) levels, and a significant increase in hemoglobin (HGB) levels in both treatment groups. There was no significant difference between the two groups. The sum of the adverse event scores was slightly higher in the goserelin 3.6 mg than in the 10.8 mg group. The clinical efficacy of trimonthly administration of goserelin 10.8 mg was equivalent to monthly 3.6 mg dosing and was non-inferior regarding safety and tolerability. In this paper, the polymerization of butyl acrylate (BA) in the presence of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) has been investigated. A series of organic halides such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), ethyl 2-bromopropionate (EBP), ethyl 2-chloropropionate (ECP) and ethyl α-bromophenylacetate (α-EBP) were employed to initiate the polymerization of BA in the presence of Pd NPs. An ultrahigh molecular weight poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA) with a number average molecular weight (Mn) up to 1.86 × 106 Da and polydispersity index (PDI) of 2.38 was synthesized by using α-EBP as an initiator in the presence of 10.5 ppm of Pd NPs at 60 ºC. The orders of polymerization with respect to α-EBP, Pd NPs and BA were determined to be 0.48, 0.86, and 0.95 respectively according to the kinetic investigation. A mechanistic investigation revealed that the reaction of α-EBP and Pd NPs resulted in a generation of α-EBP residue radical to initiate the polymerization of BA around the surface of Pd NPs. Background: Colorectal adenoma (CRA) is a significant precancerous lesion of sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). CRA is likely to recur after polypectomy, increasing the risk of CRC. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has been used to reduce CRA recurrence. This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of oral CHM in reducing CRA recurrence compared to other treatments (placebo, routine care, no treatment, and conventional medicine). Methods: We will search for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) from nine major biomedical databases in English and Chinese from their inception to July 2023. The RCTs that investigate the effects of oral CHM in reducing CRA recurrence compared to other treatments will be involved. We will exclude trials using CHM extract or external application of CHM, cohort study and cross-section study. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool version 2 will be used to assess the quality of included studies. Data will be analysed using Review Manager software 5.4 and STATA. The random effect model will be used. The heterogeneity of intervention effects will be tested by Chi2 (Cochrane Q) and I2 statistics. Funnel plots will assess publication bias if more than ten studies are included. Subgroup and sensitivity analysis will be conducted when possible. Discussion: This review will discuss the effectiveness and safety of oral CHM in reducing CRA recurrence. It will show the critical information for clinicians in the decision-making process and countries to develop clinical guidelines on CRA management. Cantharidin (CTD) is a well-established defensive toxin synthesized by blister beetles, displaying both therapeutic potential and toxicity. Among these beetles, Hycleus cichorii and Hycleus phaleratus are the two most commercially significant species due to their capacity to produce CTD in males. In this investigation, we conducted a gene expression profiling analysis of male and female individuals of these two species, utilizing the Illumina Hiseq4000 platform. We identified 7,983 expressed genes, including 2,823 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) shared by both male and female blister beetles. Nineteen genes related to CTD biosynthesis in the terpenoid backbone biosynthesis pathway were identified, including hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGR; EC:1.1.1.34), which demonstrated a significant correlation with CTD content. Furthermore, hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA synthase (HMGS; EC:2.3.3.10) and isopentenyl-diphosphate Delta-isomerase (IDI; EC:5.3.3.2) were also found to be significantly up-regulated in males. Comparative analysis revealed that NADP+-dependent farnesol dehydrogenase (FOHSDR; EC:1.1.1.216) and farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FDPS; EC:2.5.1.1) had the highest copy number in these beetles, significantly higher than the copy number of the other four non-Meloidae insects. The analysis of the protein-protein interaction network of genes related to CTD biosynthesis revealed that the acetyl-CoA C-acetyltransferase (ACAT; EC:2.3.1.9) gene was the central gene, exhibiting greater expression in male blister beetles than in females. This study offers novel insights into the mechanisms of CTD biosynthesis in blister beetles and enhances our comprehensions of the association between particular genes and CTD content. The purpose of this study was to evaluate L-cysteine-modified transfersomes as the topical carrier for enhanced epidermal delivery of podophyllotoxin (POD). L-cysteine-deoxycholic acid (LC-DCA) conjugate was synthesized via an amidation reaction. POD-loaded L-cysteine-modified transfersomes (POD-LCTs) were prepared via a thin membrane dispersion method and characterized for their particle size, zeta potential, morphology, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and in vitro release. Subsequently, in vitro skin permeation and retention, fluorescence distribution in the skin, hematoxylin–eosin staining and in vivo skin irritation were studied. The POD-LCTs formed spherical shapes with a particle size of 172.5 ± 67.2 nm and a zeta potential of −31.3 ± 6.7 mV. Compared with the POD-Ts, the POD-LCTs provided significantly lower drug penetration through the porcine ear skin and significantly increased the skin retention (p < 0.05). Meaningfully, unlike the extensive distribution of the POD-loaded transfersomes (POD-Ts) throughout the skin tissue, the POD-LCTs were mainly located in the epidermis. Moreover, the POD-LCTs did not induce skin irritation. Therefore, the POD-LCTs provided an enhanced epidermal delivery and might be a promising carrier for the topical delivery of POD. Infective endocarditis (IE) is a severe and potentially life-threatening infection that affects the endocardium, the inner lining of the heart chambers and valves. Although rare, it is a potentially fatal condition, with an incidence of 3–10 cases per 100,000 people per year in developed countries and a mortality rate of up to 30% within 30 days. Early identification and diagnosis are critical for improving outcomes. The diagnosis of IE typically involves a combination of biomarkers, blood cultures, and echocardiography. However, currently, there are no specific biomarkers for the early detection of IE. Given the lack of specific biomarkers for IE, serum calcium levels have been suggested to play a unique role in IE. There have been few articles on the correlation between serum calcium and IE, suggesting that patients with endocarditis and lower levels of serum calcium may have a poorer prognosis. We develop deterministic perturbation bounds for singular values and vectors of orthogonally decomposable tensors, in a spirit similar to classical results for matrices such as those due to Weyl, Davis, Kahan and Wedin. Our bounds demonstrate intriguing differences between matrices and higher order tensors. Most notably, they indicate that for higher order tensors perturbation affects each essential singular value/vector in isolation, and its effect on an essential singular vector does not depend on the multiplicity of its corresponding singular value or its distance from other singular values. Our results can be readily applied and provide a unified treatment to many different problems involving higher order orthogonally decomposable tensors. In particular, we illustrate the implications of our bounds through connected yet seemingly different high-dimensional data analysis tasks: the unsupervised learning scenario of tensor SVD and the supervised task of tensor regression, leading to new insights in both of these settings. Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) produce over 50% of tropical precipitation and account for the majority of extreme rainfall and flooding events. MCSs are considered the building blocks of larger‐scale convectively coupled equatorial waves (CCEWs). While CCEWs can provide favorable environments for convection, how CCEWs can systematically impact organized convection and thereby MCS characteristics is less clear. We examine this question by analyzing a global MCS tracking data set. During the active phase of CCEWs, MCS frequency increases and MCSs rain harder, produce more lifetime total rain, and grow larger in size. The probability of extreme MCSs also elevates. These changes are most pronounced when MCSs are associated with Kelvin waves and tropical depression‐type waves while less so with the Madden‐Julian Oscillation. These results can be benchmarks to improve model representation of MCS interactions with large‐scale circulations and can be leveraged for operational forecasts of high‐impact MCSs at extended lead times. Herein, isothermal compression experiments are conducted on EA4T steel at 970–1170 °C, with strain rates of 0.01–1.0 s−1 and a strain of 0.2–0.8 s−1. Based on the experimental data, a high‐temperature constitutive model is developed for EA4T steel. The activation energy of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) is calculated to be 383 666 J mol−1, and the correlation coefficient and root mean square error between the results of the constitutive model and experimental results are 0.9943 and 4.6823, respectively. The average grain size for each deformation condition is determined using the linear‐intercept method. The grain growth model widely used in cellular automaton (CA) simulations is found unsuitable for EA4T steel. Therefore, a modified CA model of DRX behavior suitable for EA4T steel is developed. The nucleation rates and solute drag effect coefficients under different deformation conditions are determined. Furthermore, simulations are performed under other deformation conditions using the CA model. The simulated results for the average grain size, microstructure morphology, and DRX fraction agree well with the experimental results. At present, monotherapy of tumor has not met the clinical needs, due to high doses, poor efficacy, and the emergence of drug resistance. Combination therapy can effectively solve these problems, which is a better option for tumor suppression. Based on this, we developed a novel glutathione-sensitive drug delivery nanoparticle system (OMT/CMCS-CYS-RB NPs) for oral cancer treatment. Briefly, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) was used as a carrier to simultaneously load Rose Bengal (RB) and oxymatrine (OMT). The OMT/CMCS-CYS-RB NPs prepared by ion crosslinking were spheres with a stable structure. In addition, the nanoparticles can be excited in vitro to generate a large amount of singlet oxygen, which has a good photodynamic effect. In vitro anti-tumor activity study showed that the nanoparticles after the laser enhanced therapeutic efficacy on tumor cells compared with the free drug and exhibited well security. Furthermore, OMT/CMCS-CYS-RB NPs could inhibit the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in oxidative stress, and realize tumor apoptosis through mitochondria-related pathways. Navigation bronchoscopy is an emerging technique used to evaluate pulmonary lesions. Using Veran's SPiN electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) and Archimedes virtual bronchoscopy navigation (VBN), this study aimed to compare the accuracy and safety of these procedures for lung lesions and to identify potentially relevant knowledge for the application of artificial intelligence in interventional pulmonology in a single institute. This single-center, retrospective study compared the ENB and VBN results in patients with pulmonary lesions unsuitable for biopsy via percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy methods. A total of 35 patients who underwent navigation bronchoscopy for pulmonary lesion diagnosis were enrolled. Nineteen patients were stratified in the ENB group, and sixteen were in the VBN group. The mean age of this cohort was 67.6 ± 9.9 years. The mean distance of the lesion from the pleural surface was 16.1 ± 11.7 mm (range: 1.0–41.0 mm), and most lesions were a solid pattern (n = 33, 94.4%). There were 32 cases (91.4%) of pulmonary lesions with an air-bronchus sign. A statistically significant difference was found between pulmonary size and transparenchymal nodule access (p = 0.049 and 0.037, respectively). The navigation success rate was significantly higher in the VBN group (93.8% vs. 78.9%). Moreover, no procedure-related complications or mortality were noted. The radiographic characteristics, such as size or solid component, can affect the selection of the biopsy procedure, either ENB or VBN. Navigation bronchoscopy-guided biopsy demonstrated acceptable accuracy and a good safety profile in evaluating pulmonary lesions when the percutaneous approach was challenging or life threatening. We propose a fractional Adams–Simpson-type method for nonlinear fractional ordinary differential equations with fractional order α ∈ (0 , 1) . In our method, a nonuniform mesh is used so that the optimal convergence order can be recovered for non-smooth data. By developing a modified fractional Grönwall inequality, we prove that the method is unconditionally convergent under the local Lipschitz condition of the nonlinear term, and show that with a proper mesh parameter, the method can achieve the optimal convergence order 3 + α even if the given data is not smooth. Under very mild conditions, the nonlinear stability of the method is analyzed by using a perturbation technique. The extensions of the method to multi-term nonlinear fractional ordinary differential equations and multi-order nonlinear fractional ordinary differential systems are also discussed. Dust emission from high-redshift galaxies gives us a clue to the origin and evolution of dust in the early Universe. Previous studies have shown that different sources of dust (stellar dust production and dust growth in dense clouds) predict different ultraviolet (UV) extinction curves for galaxies at z ∼ 7 but that the observed attenuation curves depend strongly on the geometry of dust and star distributions. Thus, we perform radiative transfer calculations under the dust–star geometries computed by a cosmological hydrodynamic simulation (IllustrisTNG). This serves to investigate the dust attenuation curves predicted from 'realistic' geometries. We choose objects with stellar mass and star formation rate appropriate for Lyman break galaxies at z ∼ 7. We find that the attenuation curves are very different from the original extinction curves in most of the galaxies. This makes it difficult to constrain the dominant dust sources from the observed attenuation curves. We further include infrared dust emission in the analysis and plot the infrared excess (IRX)–UV spectral slope (β) diagram. We find that different sources of dust cause different IRX– β relations for the simulated galaxies. In particular, if dust growth is the main source of dust, a variation of dust-to-metal ratio causes a more extended sequence with smaller IRX in the IRX– β diagram. Thus, the comprehensive analysis of the abundance of dust and metals, the UV slope, and the dust emission could provide a clue to the dominant dust sources in the Universe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we study the estimation of a rank-one spiked tensor in the presence of heavy tailed noise. Our results highlight some of the fundamental similarities and differences in the tradeoff between statistical and computational efficiencies under heavy tailed and Gaussian noise. In particular, we show that, for $p$ th order tensors, the tradeoff manifests in an identical fashion as the Gaussian case when the noise has finite $4(p-1)$ th moment. The difference in signal strength requirements, with or without computational constraints, for us to estimate the singular vectors at the optimal rate, interestingly, narrows for noise with heavier tails and vanishes when the noise only has finite fourth moment. Moreover, if the noise has less than fourth moment, tensor SVD, perhaps the most natural approach, is suboptimal even though it is computationally intractable. Our analysis exploits a close connection between estimating the rank-one spikes and the spectral norm of a random tensor with iid entries. In particular, we show that the order of the spectral norm of a random tensor can be precisely characterized by the moment of its entries, generalizing classical results for random matrices. In addition to the theoretical guarantees, we propose estimation procedures for the heavy tailed regime, which are easy to implement and efficient to run. Background: Poria cocos (Schw.) Wolf or Fuling is one of the top 10 most frequently prescribed herbs in China for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to determine the additional benefit of Fuling formulae use in addition to hypoglycaemic agents for T2DM in randomised clinical trials. Methods: English (5) and Chinese (4) medical databases were searched from their inception to August 2021. RCTs that included Fuling in herbal formulae for T2DM were included. Risk of bias were assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration's procedures. Stata software (13.0) was used for data analysis. Results: Seventy-three RCTs (6,489 participants) with herbal formulae containing Fuling were included. Most studies were at risk of bias and strength of the evidence were low to moderate. Meta-analysis findings showed that the addition of formulae containing Fuling to hypoglycaemic agent-treatments could benefit people with T2DM by reducing fasting blood glucose (MD -0.82 [-0.93, -0.71]; I2 = 79.6%, P = 0.00), 2-hour postprandial blood glucose (MD-1.15 [-1.31, -0.98], I2 = 80%, P = 0.00) and haemoglobin A1c (MD-0.64 [-0.75, -0.53], I2 = 84.7%, P = 0.00). Adverse events were also significantly lower in the integrative group than in the hypoglycaemic alone group (RR 0.99 [0.93, 1.06], P = 0.87). Conclusion: Evidence from this study supports the use of Fuling formulae combined with hypoglycaemic agents for T2DM. The combined therapies appear to be well tolerated. Chemotherapy side effects are minimized, and therapeutic results are enhanced by combination therapy, which is extensively utilized in cancer therapy. MTT experiment showed that compared to the free drugs calreticulin (CRT) and gemcitabine (GEM), GEM-CRT@NPs significantly increased the cytotoxicity of endometrial cancer (Ishikawa cells and KLE cells). These drugs were conjugated to a tri-block copolymeric framework. GEM-CRT@NPs were studied using HR-TEM and DLS analysis to determine particle size and zeta potential. Biochemical staining analyses were also used to investigate the morphological characteristics of endometrial cancer cell lines. After KLE and Ishikawa cancer cells were treated with GEM-CRT@NPs, endometrial cell shape was altered, as evidenced by nuclear fragmentation and nuclear condensation (apoptosis hallmarks). Additionally, the most significant apoptosis ratio to mitochondrial membrane potential indicates that the mitochondrial membrane potential is responsible for the cell's death. Upon treatment with GEM-CRT@NPs, systemic toxicity analysis revealed minimal histological abnormalities and significant blood chemistry alterations, and a near-normal look of the organs. Observational evidence of two extratropical pathways to forcing tropical convective disturbances is documented through a statistical analysis of satellite-derived OLR and ERA5 reanalysis. The forcing mechanism and the resulting disturbances are found to strongly depend on the structure of the background zonal wind. Although Rossby wave propagation is prohibited in easterlies, modeling studies have shown that extratropical forcing can still excite equatorial waves through resonance between the tropics and extratropics. Here this "remote" forcing pathway is investigated for the first time in the context of convectively coupled Kelvin waves over the tropical Pacific during northern summer. The extratropical forcing is manifested by eddy momentum flux convergence that arises when extratropical eddies propagate into the subtropics and encounter their critical line. This nonlinear forcing has similar wavenumbers and frequencies with Kelvin waves and excites them by projecting onto their meridional eigenstructure in zonal wind, as a form of resonance. This resonance is also evidenced by a momentum budget analysis, which reveals the nonlinear forcing term is essential for maintenance of the waves, while the remaining linear terms are essential for propagation. In contrast, the "local" pathway of extratropical forcing entails the presence of a westerly duct during northern winter that permits Rossby waves to propagate into the equatorial east Pacific, while precluding any sort of resonance with Kelvin waves due to Doppler shifting effects. The intruding disturbances primarily excite tropical "cloud plumes" through quasigeostrophic forcing, while maintaining their extratropical nature. This study demonstrates the multiple roles of the extratropics in forcing in tropical circulations and illuminates how tropical–extratropical interactions and extratropical basic states can provide be a source of predictability at the S2S time scale. Significance Statement: This study seeks to understand how circulations in the midlatitudes excite the weather systems in the tropics. Results show that the mechanisms, as well as the types of tropical weather systems excited, are strongly dependent on the mean large-scale wind structure. In particular, when the large-scale wind blows from east to west, a special type of eastward-moving tropical weather system, the Kelvin wave, is excited owing to its resonance with remote eastward-moving weather systems in the extratropics. On the contrary, when the average wind blows from west to east, midlatitude systems are observed to intrude into the lower latitudes and directly force tropical convection, the cloud plumes, while maintaining their extratropical nature. These results speak to how the midlatitudes can excite distinct types of tropical weather systems under different climatological wind regimes. State-of-charge (SOC) estimation of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is the basis of other state estimations. However, its accuracy can be affected by many factors, such as temperature and ageing. To handle this bottleneck issue, we here propose a joint SOC-SOH estimation method considering the influence of the temperature. It combines the Forgetting Factor Recursive Least Squares (FFRLS) algorithm, Total Least Squares (TLS) algorithm, and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) algorithm. First, the FFRLS algorithm is used to identify and update the parameters of the equivalent circuit model in real time under different battery ageing degrees. Then, the TLS algorithm is used to estimate the battery SOH to improve the prior estimation accuracy of SOC. Next, the SOC is calculated by the UKF algorithm, and finally, a more accurate SOH can be obtained according to the UKF-based SOC trajectory. The battery-in-the-loop experiments are utilized to verify the proposed algorithm. For the cases of temperature change up to 35 °C and capacity decay up to 10%, our joint estimator can achieve ultra-low errors, bounded by 2%, respectively, for SOH and SOC. Although crop rotations have been widely shown as an effective approach for improving yield or soil quality in the long term, the relationship between crop rotations and quality traits of crop or biochar-based fertilization is still unclear. To address this, we conducted a long-term field experiment in the Heilongjiang province of China to investigate the effects of crop rotation and biochar-based fertilizer application on the crop yield, soil parameters, crop quality, and agronomic traits in 2014–2020. The effects of rotations on crop production and soil properties were evaluated with the average yield variability during the 7 years of this study. Our results showed that the diversified corn and soybean rotations had a significant positive effect on average crop yield compared with their monocultures. The corn yield was enhanced by 0.6 Mg ha−1 (5.4%) in the corn–soybean–corn (CSC) crop sequence compared with monoculture corn. Similarly, soybean yield was enhanced by 0.21 Mg ha−1 (9.7%) in the soybean–corn–corn (SCC) crop sequence compared with monoculture soybean. However, a negative effect of crop rotations was detected on the protein content of soybean compared with the monoculture soybean, while a positive effect was detected on oil content. Additionally, no differences were detected in crop yield between biochar-based fertilization and mineral fertilization treatments, but a significant positive effect of biochar-based fertilization was observed for any crop on both protein and oil content. A significant effect of crop rotation was found on the percentage of total soil N (TN), available soil N (AN), and available soil K (AK) content. The SSS crop sequence treatment illustrated the highest TN values at 0.18%. The CCC crop sequence treatment increased AN and AK content by 9.1% and 7.8%, respectively, compared with SSS (p < 0.05). We conclude that crop rotations increase crop yield and biochar-based fertilizer application, improving crop quality traits in the long term. Thus, the addition of biochar-based fertilizer could efficiently enhance the yield and quality of crop in the rotation cropping system. The absence of clinically objective methods to evaluate adenomyosis-associated pain and the poor understanding of its pathophysiology lead to treatment limitations. We conducted a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging study with 49 patients with pain-related adenomyosis and 30 pain-free controls to investigate brain morphological alterations and regional dysfunctions in patients with pain-related adenomyosis. These patients had significantly higher scores for anxiety and depression than the control group (p < 0.05). They also had a lower gray matter volume (GMV) in the bilateral insula, left angular gyrus, precuneus, left inferior temporal gyrus, and left postcentral gyrus (p < 0.05, AlphaSim corrected). Similarly, decreased voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity was observed in the bilateral insula, posterior cingulate cortex, middle frontal gyrus, and postcentral gyrus in the adenomyosis patient group (p < 0.05, AlphaSim corrected). Regional homogeneity showed significant differences mainly in the bilateral cerebellum, left inferior frontal gyrus, medial prefrontal cortex, and posterior cingulate gyrus. Correlation analysis showed that the degree of depression in patients with adenomyosis was negatively correlated with the GMV of the left angular gyrus. The crown is a key quality index of strip. Usually, the online strip crown prediction model is established based on the analytical model for high efficiency. However, the calculation accuracy of the traditional model is not very high because these models only consider the single effect of various influencing factors on the exit strip crown under the basic process parameters, but these factors are not independent of each other. Therefore, by introducing the evaluation coefficient that represents the influence of single factor on strip crown and the correction coefficient that represents the interaction effects of each other, a high-precision prediction model of strip crown is established to improve the model accuracy. The actual situation of steel SPHC rolled in 2050 hot rolling line is taken as examples; through comparing the experimental results and three-dimensional finite element method algorithm, it can be seen that the improved model has high precision than the traditional model, which has important benefits for online model of practical production. Objectives: Accurate prediction of the expression of programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) before immunotherapy is crucial. This study was performed to construct and validate a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT)–based radiomics signature to predict the expression of PD-L1 in HNSCC. Methods: In total, 157 patients with confirmed HNSCC who underwent CECT scans and immunohistochemical examination of tumor PD-L1 expression were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into a training set (n = 104; 62 PD-L1–positive and 42 PD-L1–negative) and an external validation set (n = 53; 34 PD-L1–positive and 19 PD-L1–negative). A radiomics signature was constructed from radiomics features extracted from the CECT images, and a radiomics score was calculated. Performance of the radiomics signature was assessed using receiver operating characteristics analysis. Results: Nine features were finally selected to construct the radiomics signature. The performance of the radiomics signature to distinguish between a PD-L1–positive and PD-L1–negative status in both the training and validation sets was good, with an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve of 0.852 and 0.802 for the training and validation sets, respectively. Conclusions: A CECT–based radiomics signature was constructed to predict the expression of PD-L1 in HNSCC. This model showed favorable predictive efficacy and might be useful for identifying patients with HNSCC who can benefit from anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy. Based on quadratic and linear polynomial interpolation approximations and the Crank-Nicolson technique, a new second-order difference approximation method of the Caputo fractional derivative of order α ∈ (1 , 2) is proposed. This method is different from the known second-order methods, which is called the L 2- 1 σ Crank-Nicolson method in this paper. Using the L 2- 1 σ Crank-Nicolson method of the Caputo fractional derivative, a fully discrete L 2- 1 σ Crank-Nicolson difference method for two-dimensional time-fractional wave equations with variable coefficients is developed. The unconditional stability and convergence of the method are rigorously proved. The optimal error estimates in the discrete L 2 -norm and H 1 -norm are obtained under a relatively weak regularity condition. The error estimates show that the method has the second-order convergence in both time and space for all α ∈ (1 , 2). In order to overcome the loss of the temporal convergence order caused by the stronger singularity of the exact solution at the initial time, a nonuniform L 2- 1 σ Crank-Nicolson difference method is also developed on a class of general nonuniform time meshes. Numerical results confirm the theoretical convergence result. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is widely used in aviation, architecture, medical treatment, optical instruments and other fields because of its good transparency, chemical stability and electrical insulation. However, the application of PMMA largely depends on its physical properties. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength, fracture surface energy, shear modulus and Young's modulus are increased with the increase in molecular weight. In this article, we review the application of conventional free radical polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and coordination polymerization for preparing high molecular weight PMMA. Hybrid nanomaterial film consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) were deposited on a highly flexible polyimide (PI) substrate using spray gun. The hybridization between 2-D GNP and 1-D MWCNT reduces stacking among the nanomaterials and produces a thin film with a porous structure. Carbon-based nanomaterials of MWCNT and GNP with high electrical conductivity can be employed to detect the deformation and damage for structural health monitoring. The strain sensing capability of carbon-based hybrid nanomaterial film was evaluated by its piezoresistive behavior, which correlates the change of electrical resistance with the applied strain through a tensile test. The effects of weight ratio between MWCNT and GNP and the total amount of hybrid nanomaterials on the strain sensitivity of the nanomaterial thin film were investigated. Experimental results showed that both the electrical conductivity and strain sensitivity of the hybrid nanomaterial film increased with the increase of the GNP contents. The gauge factor used to characterize the strain sensitivity of the nanomaterial film increased from 7.75 to 24 as the GNP weight ratio increased from 0 wt.% to 100 wt.%. In this work, a simple, low cost, and easy to implement deposition process was proposed to prepare a highly flexible nanomaterial film. Identifying the dominating oil-producing layer(s) within a shaly system, typically characterized by multiple layers with similar properties, is always a critical yet formidable task, as the oil component disparities among these closely adjacent layers are too minor to be resolved by the traditional geochemical fingerprints. This challenge is now likely addressed by high-resolution Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR MS), which can resolve thousands of non-hydrocarbons that could serve as new fingerprints. Taking a typical shaly system in the Ordos Basin in China as an example, the specific proportions of non-hydrocarbon compounds from the retained petroleum of different source rock layers (rock extracts) and the produced oil at the wellhead were identified by FT-ICR MS. Their compositional similarity was calculated using a multidimensional scaling (MDS) method, and the layers hosting the retained petroleum with higher compositional similarity to the produced oils are considered to be the main contributors to oil production. The results show that the main producing layers identified by FT-ICR MS differ from those proposed based on traditional fingerprints like the Rock-Eval parameters. A typical example is that the thick low-TOC shales, conventionally proposed to be unessential to oil production, seem to have a similar contribution, if not higher, to their thick silty counterparts. This divergence may be attributed to the fact that the conventional fingerprints primarily rely on the rock extracts from a vertical well section, which may only represent a limited lateral area, while the non-hydrocarbon similarity approach involving the produced oil appears to be more realistic, as it can consider the engineering processes, like the horizontal well track and the hydraulic fracturing effects. Microplastics (MPs) are of great concern to coral health, particularly enhanced biotoxicity of small microplastics (< 100 µm) (SMPs). However, their fate and harm to remote coral reef ecosystems remain poorly elucidated. This work systematically investigated the distributions and features of MPs and SMPs in sediments from 13 islands/reefs of the Xisha Islands, the South China Sea for comprehensively deciphering their accumulation, sources and risk to coral reef ecosystems. The results show that both MPs (average, 682 items/kg) and SMPs (average, 375 items/kg) exhibit heterogeneous distributions, with accumulation within atolls and dispersion across fringing islands, which controlled by human activities and hydrodynamic conditions. Cluster analysis for the first time reveals a pronounced difference in their compositions between the southern and northern Xisha Islands and resultant distinct sources, i.e., MPs in the north part were leaked mainly from local domestic sewage and fishing waste, while in the south part were probably derived from industrial effluents from adjacent countries. Our ecological risk assessment suggests that the ecosystem within the Yongle Atoll is exposed to a high-risk of MPs pollution. The novel results and proposed framework facilitate to effectively manage and control MPs and accordingly preserve a fragile biosphere in remote coral reefs. Simple Summary: Tumors of the brain and nerves develop frequently in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1. Many are benign growths, such as pilocytic astrocytomas in the brain and neurofibromas in the nerves. However, in some patients, the tumors become malignant and may cause local damage, disseminate to distant sites and result in death. We studied changes in the levels of chromatin proteins and changes in telomeres, in cells obtained from mouse gliomas that are deficient in neurofibromin as well as excess brain and nerve tumor tissue from patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 or sporadic tumors lacking neurofibromin expression. A decrease in the levels of these proteins in experimental cell lines resulted in susceptibility to a class of specific drugs knowns as ATR inhibitors, which may represent a specific vulnerability of these tumor subgroups. We expect our data to provide the required rationale for the development of more accurate animal models to study neurofibromatosis, as well as specific molecularly based drugs for treatment as alternatives to the current, often devastating approaches of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Subsets of Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1)-associated solid tumors have been shown to display high frequencies of ATRX mutations and the presence of alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT). We studied the phenotype of combined NF1 and ATRX deficiency in malignant solid tumors. Cell lines derived from NF1-deficient sporadic glioblastomas (U251, SF188), an NF1-associated ATRX mutant glioblastoma cell line (JHH-NF1-GBM1), an NF1-derived sarcoma cell line (JHH-CRC65), and two NF1-deficient MPNST cell lines (ST88-14, NF90.8) were utilized. Cancer cells were treated with ATR inhibitors, with or without a MEK inhibitor or temozolomide. In contrast to the glioma cell line SF188, combined ATRX knockout (KO) and TERC KO led to ALT-like properties and sensitized U251 glioma cells to ATR inhibition in vitro and in vivo. In addition, ATR inhibitors sensitized U251 cells to temozolomide, but not MEK inhibition, irrespective of ATRX level manipulation; whereas, the JHH-NF1-GBM1 cell line demonstrated sensitivity to ATR inhibition, but not temozolomide. Similar effects were noted using the MPNST cell line NF90.8 after combined ATRX knockdown and TERC KO; however, not in ST88-14. Injection molding (IM) is a versatile manufacturing process capable of rapid prototyping and mass-producing high-quality polymer parts. The present study mainly investigates the challenge of designing multiple molding gates on the complex arbitrary part surface in 3D. Currently, this problem is a challenge in mold design and engineering experience still plays an important role in designing the molding gates. To reduce the human intervention in the design process, the present study proposed a novel methodology with the following major steps: 1) using Poisson disk sampling (PDS) to preselect candidate gate locations automatically within the suitable gating region specified by designers; 2) using a space-filling initialization strategy and efficient global optimization to find the optimal gate locations. In the present setting, the molding gate design problem is formalized as a discrete optimization problem. The PDS is employed to construct the discrete solution space and EGO is used to efficiently search through a large solution space for the best design. To further promote optimization efficiency, a parallel implementation of EGO is also proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is validated in two design cases. The results demonstrate the proposed EGO and Parallel EGO method is superior that the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Surrogate Optimization (SO). The main symptoms of adenomyosis may adversely affect physical and mental health and quality of life (QOL). However, studies are few on this topic. This study evaluated the effect of adenomyosis on anxiety, depression, and QOL. Participants with adenomyosis (n = 90) or leiomyoma (n = 59) completed questionnaires, including the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Short Form (SF)-36. HADS anxiety and depression positive rates, physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) component summary scores, and eight subscale scores of SF-36 were compared between the two groups. Among patients with adenomyosis, the incidence of anxiety symptoms was 28.9% (control group, 10.2%; OR = 3.589, 95% CI: 1.375–9.367), with 10% of patients showing moderate-to-severe symptoms. The incidence of depressive symptoms was 14.4% (control group, 3.4%; OR = 4.812, 95% CI: 1.044–22.168). The case group had significantly lower PCS and MCS scores than the control group. In patients with adenomyosis, being employed (OR = 6.393, 95% CI: 1.153–35.440) and perianal pain (OR = 25.419, 95% CI: 2.504–258.024) were risk factors for anxiety, and perianal pain (OR = 15.208, 95% CI: 3.050–75.836) was a risk factor for depression. Compared with leiomyoma, adenomyosis is associated with a higher risk of anxiety and depression, with a poorer QOL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate a modified Le Fort I interpositional grafting followed by dental implants for the rehabilitation of edentulous atrophied maxillae (Cawood classes IV and V). The surgical modification was a bilateral sinus floor augmentation prior to the osteotomy. This generated a closed recipient bed which allowed the use of particulated bone grafts (xenogenic bone mineral) and a reduced amount of autologous iliac bone grafts. Materials and Methods: A total of 106 patients with maxillary interpositional bone grafts were included in this retrospective analysis between 2006 and 2020. The panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms were analyzed to assess the gain and stability of the maxillary bone and the peri‐implant bone loss. In addition, the observational period of up to 14 years implant survival and success was evaluated. Results: A stable vertical bone height with mean 0.63 ± 1.41 mm resorption over 5 years after implant loading was observed. A mean of 0.20 ± 0.37 mm marginal bone loss was noted after 5 years. The implant survival was 96.4% after 5 years and implant success can be rated 91.7% in a mean follow‐up period of 93 months and 168 months maximal observation time. Perioperative complications included sinus membrane perforation (59.43%), wound healing disturbances (25.47%), and transient primary complications (13.78%). All receded apart from two subtotal graft losses (1.8%). Conclusions: The modified Le Fort I osteotomy with interpositional bone grafts is a predictable procedure in terms of bone and implant stability. A low profile electrically controlled pattern reconfigurable antenna with wide bandwidth is proposed in this article. The antenna is designed on two closely stacked substrates with a very low profile of 0.04λ0. On the top layer of the design is a periodic metasurface and two parasitic strips, and on the bottom layer is a metallic ground etched with rectangle slot. The feed line is designed on the middle layer to excite the metasurface patch antenna. Eight pin diodes are mounted between the parasitic metallic strips and the adjacent metallic metasurface patch cells for pattern reconfiguration. Two DC biasing voltages are employed to control the pin diodes. By changing the DC voltages, antenna can work at three different modes, and the main beam could be steered among 0°, +25°, and −25° directions. The prototype of the antenna is fabricated and the performance of the prototype is measured. The measured S parameters and radiation pattern show good agreement with the simulated results. The measured overlapped impedance matching bandwidth of the proposed antenna at all working modes is 18.3%. To study the efficacy and safety of the dienogest and the gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) in symptomatic females with uterine adenomyosis. A total of 127 patients with adenomyosis with a chief complaint of dysmenorrhea were recruited. The first group received 2 mg of dienogest (DNG) daily, whereas the second group received goserelin acetate (GS) (3.6 mg/4 weeks) for 12 weeks. Outpatient follow-up was undertaken after 12 weeks. Among 127 women, 56/63 (88.9%) patients completed the treatment in the DNG group, whereas 62/64 (96.9%) patients completed the treatment in the GS group. A significant decrease in dysmenorrhea symptoms as measured by the visual analog scale (VAS) and Carcinoma antigen125 (CA125) after 12 weeks of treatment was observed in both groups (p <.001). The hemoglobin of anemic patients did not significantly improve after 12 weeks of treatment (p＝0.21) and the uterine volume slightly increased without statistical significance (p＝0.10) in the DNG group. Simultaneously, The hemoglobin of anemic patients significantly improved (p <.001) and the uterine volume significantly decreased (p <.001) in the GS group. Dienogest effectively alleviates the symptoms of dysmenorrhea in patients with adenomyosis, but it cannot improve the anemia or reduce the size of the uterus. This paper is concerned with an efficient numerical method for a class of parabolic integro-differential equations with weakly singular kernels. Due to the presence of the weakly singular kernel, the exact solution has singularity near the initial time t = 0. A generalized Crank-Nicolson-type scheme for the time discretization is proposed by designing a product integration rule for the integral term, and a compact difference approximation is used for the space discretization. The proposed method is constructed on the uniform time mesh, but it can still achieve the second-order convergence in time for weakly singular solutions. The unconditional stability and convergence of the method is proved and the optimal error estimate in the discrete L 2 -norm is obtained. The error estimate shows that the method has the second-order convergence in time and the fourth-order convergence in space. The extension of the method to two-dimensional problems is also discussed. A simple comparison is made with several existing methods. Numerical results confirm the theoretical analysis result and show the effectiveness of the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
