Abstract

The recent death of Professor Yves Dusausoy, one of my first crystallography teachers, gave me the desire to write a article in tribute to the “Nancy school”, where I had the chance to do my scientific studies before embarking on my own career as assistant professor (1994–2000, Henri Poincaré University) and then full professor at Strasbourg University from 2000. They are specifically three “great” deceased teachers who marked my scientific formation and allowed me to be well prepared in the large field of X-ray crystallography.In this article, I want to pay tribute to the Professors Yves Dusausoy, Jean Protas and Niels Hansen and show, on a few easy examples, the relevance of their respective teachings.

Abstract

The heteronuclear chain complex Hg[FeSi(OMe(sub 3)}(CO(sub 3))(dppm-P)](sub 2) (dppm = Ph(sub 2)PCH(sub 2)PPh(sub 2)) which has a transoid arrangement of the phosphine donors is used as a versatile chelating metallodiphosphine ligand owing to the easy rotation of its metal core about the Fe-Hg sigma-bonds. The heterotrimetallodiphosphine is subsequently shown to act as an excellent ligand for lightly stabilized metal centers with a d(super 10) -electron configuration.

Abstract

The two successive acidities of the zwitterionic benzoquinoneimine allows the preparation of metal complexes in which the control of the delocalization of the 6pi + 6pi system of the quinonoid ligand is possible. The formation of mono-, di-, and trimetallic metal complexes are reported in which the pi-system of the quinone is localized or fully delocalized between two or three metal centers.

Abstract

The structure of a novel family of 'potentially antiaromatic' alkyl-substituted p-benzoquinonediimine pH-dependent chromophores is studied. It is found that the 12(pi)-electron molecules should be considered as constituted by two chemically connected but electronically not conjugated 6(pi)-electron subunits.

Research has been conducted on the dichloroferrous complexes. The crystal structures of these complexes investigated via the use of (super)1 H NMR and UV-visible spectroscopies and the complexes' conductivity which demonstrates that they remain neutral in solution are discussed.

Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of a new carboxylato-bridged [Co.sup.II]thiophenedicarboxylic acid (TDC) compound is presented. The title compound has shown an unprecedented asymmetric tetradentate coordination mode of the carboxylate functions and the magnetic measurements have shown weak ferromagnetic interactions between the Co ions within the dimers.

Abstract

The synthesis, structures and magnetic properties of some new [Fe.sup.III] and [Fe.sup.II] complexes are described, which has shown the rich coordination chemistry of the multidentate hydrazido salicyl derivative ligands bearing sulfur groups. The studies have shown an unexpected spontaneous reduction of the new [Fe.sup.III][(HL).sub.2]Cl,S complex to the new [Fe.sup.II][([H.sub.2]L).sub.2][Cl.sub.2] high-spin mononuclear complex.

Abstract

The reactivity of isolobal molybdenum carbonylmetalates of the type [[Mo([pi]-ring)[(CO).sub.3].sup.-] containing a 2-boratanaphthalene, a 1-boratabenzene or a cyclopentadienyl ligand was examined for the synthesis of heterometallic molybdenum-palladium and molybdenum-platinum clusters. The structures of [Mo.sub.2][Pd.sub.2] or [Mo.sub.2][Pt.sub.2] cores were rhombus and the bonding behavior of these bridging organometallic building blocks was shown to strongly depend on the nature of the [pi]-ring.
