Background/Objective: Deepening knowledge about the meaning of acceptance in the context of the nurse–patient relationship will help us to understand the importance and value that people with mental health challenges attach to this attribute in the process of the therapeutic relationship. The objective of this study was to understand the process of acceptance as part of the therapeutic relationship between nurses and patients in the field of mental health. Methods: This study employed a qualitative research design using Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory approach. Using theoretical sampling, data were collected through unstructured interviews with mental health nurses and with people with mental health challenges. Results: Acceptance is a complex and dynamic process that takes place when both patients and nurses feel and make the other feel like an individual human being. Acceptance is not an automatic process; rather, it requires awareness on behalf of both parties involved in the therapeutic relationship. The creation of a non-hierarchical caring environment is fundamental for fostering mutual acceptance and engagement in the therapeutic process. Conclusions: Nurses must develop self-awareness and reflect on their attitudes and biases to provide person-centered care. Nurse training and personal development are essential requirements for achieving an effective therapeutic relationship and empowering patients in their recovery process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data on convalescent plasma (CP) treatment in COVID-19 outpatients are scarce. We aimed to assess whether CP administered during the first week of symptoms reduced the disease progression or risk of hospitalization of outpatients. Two multicenter, double-blind randomized trials (NCT04621123, NCT04589949) were merged with data pooling starting when Trial registration: Clinicaltrials.gov NCT04621123 and NCT04589949. - Abstract
The development of neuroprotective therapies is a sought-after goal. By screening combinatorial chemical libraries using in vitro assays, we identified the small molecule BN201 that promotes the survival of cultured neural cells when subjected to oxidative stress or when deprived of trophic factors. Moreover, BN201 promotes neuronal differentiation, the differentiation of precursor cells to mature oligodendrocytes in vitro, and the myelination of new axons. BN201 modulates several kinases participating in the insulin growth factor 1 pathway including serum-glucocorticoid kinase and midkine, inducing the phosphorylation of NDRG1 and the translocation of the transcription factor Foxo3 to the cytoplasm. In vivo, BN201 prevents axonal and neuronal loss, and it promotes remyelination in models of multiple sclerosis, chemically induced demyelination, and glaucoma. In summary, we provide a new promising strategy to promote neuroaxonal survival and remyelination, potentially preventing disability in brain diseases.

- Abstract
Convalescent plasma has been proposed as an early treatment to interrupt the progression of early COVID-19 to severe disease, but there is little definitive evidence. We aimed to assess whether early treatment with convalescent plasma reduces the risk of hospitalisation and reduces SARS-CoV-2 viral load among outpatients with COVID-19.

- Abstract
[EN] In the 2002‐03 academic year, L’Escola Superior d’Infermeria del Mar (Nursing University School) implemented "Practicum," a core curriculum designed to facilitate the acquisition of nursing skills from clinical settings. The paradigm shift in the teaching‐learning process is based on two fundamental pillars: the changing role of educators and the introduction of teaching strategies developed in clinical settings, facilitating the connection between theory and practice. One of the programs introduced is the Special Care Practicum (PCE) in the field of Mental Health. This paper presents the roles of teachers involved, the didactic strategies used, and the most relevant results from the past nine years of experience in the PCE. The educators are comprised of both clinically practicing nurses and an academic staff (responsible for teaching the core subjects and tutoring). The confidence and dynamics between the two groups is essential. Among the various teaching strategies implemented, students value the workshops based on real case studies from the healthcare unit where they are directly participating. The use of reflexive strategies in the teaching‐learning process creates an enriching experience for both student and teacher on personal and professional levels. Furthermore, this learning process influences future therapeutic interventions regardless of each nurse’s settings.

- Abstract
Background: Cartilage tissue engineering using synthetic scaffolds allows maintaining mechanical integrity and withstanding stress loads in the body, as well as providing a temporary substrate to which transplanted cells can adhere. Purpose: This study evaluates the use of polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds for the regeneration of articular cartilage in a rabbit model. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Five conditions were tested to attempt cartilage repair. To compare spontaneous healing (from subchondral plate bleeding) and healing due to tissue engineering, the experiment considered the use of osteochondral defects (to allow blood flow into the defect site) alone or filled with bare PCL scaffold and the use of PCL-chondrocytes constructs in chondral defects. For the latter condition, 1 series of PCL scaffolds was seeded in vitro with rabbit chondrocytes for 7 days and the cell/scaffold constructs were transplanted into rabbits’ articular defects, avoiding compromising the subchondral bone. Cell pellets and bare scaffolds were implanted as controls in a chondral defect. Results: After 3 months with PCL scaffolds or cells/PCL constructs, defects were filled with white cartilaginous tissue; integration into the surrounding native cartilage was much better than control (cell pellet). The engineered constructs showed histologically good integration to the subchondral bone and surrounding cartilage with accumulation of extracellular matrix including type II collagen and glycosaminoglycan. The elastic modulus measured in the zone of the defect with the PCL/cells constructs was very similar to that of native cartilage, while that of the pellet-repaired cartilage was much smaller than native cartilage. Conclusion: The results are quite promising with respect to the use of PCL scaffolds as aids for the regeneration of articular cartilage using tissue engineering techniques.

- Abstract
In a context of a shifting environmental, economic and social paradigm, European cities face a situation that is at the same time challenge and opportunity: the need for urban rehabilitation of the vulnerable degraded socio residential fabric. Public administrations in big cities and metropolitan areas are confronted with both the undercurrent need of actualization of the built stock and the rise of urban residential vulnerability. The city of Barcelona, as many others, is the result of multiple phenomena with high urban and social consequences. The socio spatial integration of immigrant population, the touristic rise and gentrification processes are current situations simultaneously taking place in the city. In parallel, a framework of economic crisis in which public investments in urban and social matters decrease, provides a temporal juncture that results into an increase of social polarization and socio economic inequality that becomes evident and expressed in the territory. This research focuses in the case of Barcelona, and presents a methodology based on a system of indicators elaborated through the exploitation of statistical data complemented with very specific data supplied by the Barcelona City Council. The accurate knowledge of socio demographic, socioeconomic and residential and urban characteristics is crucial in order to define the very complex urban dynamics that describe in the city neighbourhoods and areas. Residential vulnerability is defined as an assembly of objective conditions that relate to residential space and indicate situations of social discrimination and structural disadvantage of the population, related to a specific time and context. Thus, it is relevant to analyse the concentration of certain indicators of vulnerability in specific places or neighbourhoods, to contrast its effect on the socio-residential situation and its temporal evolution in order to identify tendencies. The present study contributes to the identification of data sources and a system to calculate the purposed indicators, the elaboration of a GIS analysis in order to determine the characterization of neighbourhoods and census sections according to each indicator, and the identification of areas with a higher degree of problematic based on synthetic analysis. A very relevant knowledge basis that can be used by public policy makers in order to establish measures that define vulnerable areas where to carry out actions that foster urban equality.

Today, in the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona (MRB) two different urban models coexist: the compact city, typical of the Mediterranean model, juxtaposed against recent urban sprawl. The breakdown of the Ford System of production led to a change in the structure of the territory: the city boundaries extended, segmentation of space increased contributing to the expansion of urban sprawl. We are trying to provide a response to various questions. In what way have these new dynamics exacerbated or, indeed, generated new forms of social inequality in the territory? How has all of this affected daily life, human relations and social cohesion? What effects have the recent territorial dynamics on sustainability from economic, ecological and social viewpoints? What limits, possibilities and challenges will this reality pose to a sustainable model? We believe as a hypothesis that urban morphology is a fundamental variable for sustainability. There are three dynamics into which unsustainable space can be converted: from the compact city to the dispersal of urban activity; from the complex city to the functional specialization of space; from the integrated city to a greater potential segregation of social groups on the territory. Our objective is, firstly, to move forward in a support theory of the concept of social sustainability and its empirical conciseness. Secondly, to analyze the current situation of the MRB from the wider concept of sustainability putting emphasis on the social dimension. The comparison with the American model is made to be able to generate debate about similarities and differences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The “Newborn” Health Education programme aims at decreasing consultations related to newborn infants coming to the Casa Maternitat Hospital Emergency Department on account of minor issues during the neonatal period. When developing “Newborn” the methodology based on the PRECEDE educational model was used, which has allowed us to assess the needs of a community and identify the factors associated with that behaviour. The findings of these factors have afforded us the educational diagnostics necessary to be able to run this programme, which is targeted at the parents of newborn babies and will be implemented in the postnatal period through four activities within the Health Education framework. The said activities will be organised throughout the four weeks of the neonatal period, during which several contents will be worked on: expertise and skills in newborn care, as well as physiological phenomena and the most usual alarm signs to be aware of at this stage. This health education will result in increasing expertise regarding newborn care, while helping reduce parents' anxiety when facing situations they are not experienced in1. Assessment of parents' learning results will be carried out by filling in two questionnaires evaluating the following: · The degree of expertise acquired. · The degree of anxiety when facing newborn care. It must be noted that the majority of newborn infants coming for consultation at the Children's Emergency Department during the neonatal period are discharged without any pathology2,3. Therefore, “Newborn” intends to guarantee quality Health Education responding to community needs, whereas promoting human empowerment. Grau en Infermeria
