Abstract: International audience; This work reports on the synthesis of hard carbon spheres (HCS) and the impact of the pyrolysis temperature (1500 to 1900 °C) on the properties of HC and its relationship with the electrochemical performance in potassium-ion batteries (KIBs). Comparison with commercial graphite performance is provided as well. Spherical morphology, disordered structure, and low surface area were obtained for the HCSs. Most properties (interlayer space, active surface area, and oxygen-based functional groups) were found to decrease with increasing pyrolysis temperature, except for the helium density and closed porosity, which increase. However, graphite presents a flake-like morphology with a larger particle size, a higher helium density, an ordered structure with a smaller interlayer distance, and no closed pores. Electrochemical tests in a half-cell vs K+/K showed that HCSs perform better than graphite with higher initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and better specific capacities. The HCSs pyrolyzed at 1500 and 1700 °C exhibit the best initial Coulombic efficiency, ICEs of 54 and 62%, and specific capacities of 254 and 247 mAh g–1 (C/20, 11.5 mA g–1), respectively. The ICE is affected by multiple surface and bulk parameters but also by electrolyte formulation (67% for 0.8 M KFSI vs 62% for 0.8 M KPF6). The capacity is governed by diffusive phenomena, and a larger interlayer graphitic spacing and defects favor a better insertion of K ions. Closed pores did not lead to an improvement in capacity. Furthermore, HCSs exhibit significantly better capacity retention (97%) than graphite (84%), especially when cycled at high current rates (up to 10C depotassiation rate).

Abstract: We consider a classic rendezvous game in which two players try to meet each other on a set of n locations. In each round, every player visits one of the locations, and the game finishes when the players meet at the same location. The goal is to devise strategies for both players that minimize the expected waiting time till the rendezvous. In the asymmetric case, when the strategies of the players may differ, it is known that the optimum expected waiting time of [Formula: see text] is achieved by the wait-for-mommy pair of strategies, in which one of the players stays at one location for n rounds, while the other player searches through all the n locations in a random order. However, if we insist that the players are symmetric—they are expected to follow the same strategy—then the best known strategy, proposed by Anderson and Weber [Anderson EJ, Weber RR (1990) The rendezvous problem on discrete locations. J. Appl. Probab. 27(4):839–851], achieves an asymptotic expected waiting time of [Formula: see text]. We show that the symmetry requirement indeed implies that the expected waiting time needs to be asymptotically larger than in the asymmetric case. Precisely, we prove that for every [Formula: see text], if the players need to employ the same strategy, then the expected waiting time is at least [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text]. We propose in addition a different proof for one our key lemmas, which relies on a result by Ahlswede and Katona [Ahlswede R, Katona GOH (1978) Graphs with maximal number of adjacent pairs of edges. Abstract: International audience; Potassium vanadium oxyfluoride phosphate of composition KVPO4F0.5O0.5 was modified by a carbon coating to enhance its electrochemical performance. Two distinct methods were used, first, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using acetylene gas as a carbon precursor and second, an aqueous route using an abundant, cheap, and green precursor (chitosan) followed by a pyrolysis step. The formation of a 5 to 7 nm-thick carbon coating was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and it was found to be more homogeneous in the case of CVD using acetylene gas. Indeed, an increase of the specific surface area of one order of magnitude, low content of C sp2, and residual oxygen surface functionalities were observed when the coating was obtained using chitosan. Pristine and carbon-coated materials were compared as positive electrode materials in potassium half-cells cycled at a C/5 (C = 26.5 mA g–1) rate within a potential window of 3 to 5 V vs K+/K. The formation by CVD of a uniform carbon coating with the limited presence of surface functions was shown to improve the initial coulombic efficiency up to 87% for KVPFO4F0.5O0.5-C2H2 and to mitigate electrolyte decomposition. Thus, performance at high C-rates such as 10 C was significantly improved, with ∼50% of the initial capacity maintained after 10 cycles, whereas a fast capacity loss is observed for the pristine material.

Abstract: International audience; N,N,N′,N′-Tetramethylethane-1,2-diammonioacetate (L1) and N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylpropane-1,3-diammonioacetate (L2) are two flexible zwitterionic dicarboxylates which have been used as ligands for the uranyl ion, 12 complexes having been obtained from their coupling to diverse anions, mostly anionic polycarboxylates, or oxo, hydroxo and chlorido donors. The protonated zwitterion is a simple counterion in [H2L1][UO2(2,6-pydc)2] (1), where 2,6-pydc2– is 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate, but it is deprotonated and coordinated in all the other complexes. [(UO2)2(L2)(2,4-pydcH)4] (2), where 2,4-pydc2– is 2,4-pyridinedicarboxylate, is a discrete, binuclear complex due to the terminal nature of the partially deprotonated anionic ligands. [(UO2)2(L1)(ipht)2]·4H2O (3) and [(UO2)2(L1)(pda)2] (4), where ipht2– and pda2– are isophthalate and 1,4-phenylenediacetate, are monoperiodic coordination polymers in which central L1 bridges connect two lateral strands. Oxalate anions (ox2–) generated in situ give [(UO2)2(L1)(ox)2] (5) a diperiodic network with the hcb topology. [(UO2)2(L2)(ipht)2]·H2O (6) differs from 3 in being a diperiodic network with the V2O5 topological type. [(UO2)2(L1)(2,5-pydc)2]·4H2O (7), where 2,5-pydc2– is 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylate, is a hcb network with a square-wave profile, while [(UO2)2(L1)(dnhpa)2] (8), where dnhpa2– is 3,5-dinitro-2-hydroxyphenoxyacetate, formed in situ from 1,2-phenylenedioxydiacetic acid, has the same topology but a strongly corrugated shape leading to interdigitation of layers. (2R,3R,4S,5S)-Tetrahydrofurantetracarboxylic acid (thftcH4) is only partially deprotonated in [(UO2)3(L1)(thftcH)2(H2O)] (9), which crystallizes as a diperiodic polymer with the fes topology. [(UO2)2Cl2(L1)3][(UO2Cl3)2(L1)] (10) is an ionic compound in which discrete, binuclear anions cross the cells of the cationic hcb network. 2,5-Thiophenediacetate (tdc2–) is peculiar in promoting self-sorting of the ligands in the ionic complex [(UO2)5(L1)7(tdc)(H2O)][(UO2)2(tdc)3]4·CH3CN·12H2O (11), which is the first example of heterointerpenetration in uranyl chemistry, involving a triperiodic, cationic framework and diperiodic, anionic hcb networks. Finally, [(UO2)7(O)3(OH)4.3Cl2.7(L2)2]Cl·7H2O (12) crystallizes as a 2-fold interpenetrated, triperiodic framework in which chlorouranate undulating monoperiodic subunits are bridged by the L2 ligands. Complexes 1, 2, 3, and 7 are emissive with photoluminescence quantum yields in the range of 8–24%, and their solid-state emission spectra show the usual dependence on number and nature of donor atoms.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Adaptive radiotherapy (ART) aims to address anatomical modifications appearing during the treatment of patients by modifying the planning treatment according to the daily positioning image. Clinical implementation of ART relies on the quality of the deformable image registration (DIR) algorithms included in the ART workflow. To translate ART into clinical practice, automatic DIR assessment is needed. OBJECTIVE: This article aims to estimate spatial misalignment between two head and neck kilovoltage computed tomography (kVCT) images by using two convolutional neural networks (CNNs). METHODS: The first CNN quantifies misalignments between 0 mm and 15 mm and the second CNN detects and classifies misalignments into two classes (poor alignment and good alignment). Both networks take pairs of patches of 33x33x33 mm3 as inputs and use only the image intensity information. The training dataset was built by deforming kVCT images with basis splines (B-splines) to simulate DIR error maps. The test dataset was built using 2500 landmarks, consisting of hard and soft landmark tissues annotated by 6 clinicians at 10 locations. RESULTS: The quantification CNN reaches a mean error of 1.26 mm (± 1.75 mm) on the landmark set which, depending on the location, has annotation errors between 1 mm and 2 mm. The errors obtained for the quantification network fit the computed interoperator error. The classification network achieves an overall accuracy of 79.32%, and although the classification network overdetects poor alignments, it performs well (i.e., it achieves a rate of 90.4%) in detecting poor alignments when given one. CONCLUSION: The performances of the networks indicate the feasibility of using CNNs for an agnostic and generic approach to misalignment quantification and detection.

Abstract: International audience; Bimetallic gold–platinum nanoparticles have been widely studied in the fields of nanoalloys, catalysis and plasmonics. Many preparation methods can lead to the formation of these bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs), and the structure and related properties of the nanoalloy often depend on the preparation method used. Here we investigate the ability of thermal dimethylformamide (DMF) reduction to prepare bimetallic gold–platinum sub-nm clusters supported on titania. We find that deposition of Pt preferentially occurs on gold. Formation of sub-nm clusters (vs. NPs) appears to be dependent on the metal concentration used: clusters can be obtained for metal loadings up to 4 wt% but 7–8 nm NPs are formed for metal loadings above 8 wt%, as shown using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) shows electron-rich Au and Pt components in a pure metallic form and significant platinum enrichment of the surface, which increases with increasing Pt/Au ratio and suggests the presence of Au@Pt core–shell type structures. By contrast, titania-supported bimetallic particles (typically >7 nm) obtained by sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction in DMF, contain Au/Pt Janus-type objects in addition to oxidized forms of Pt as evidenced by HRTEM, which is in agreement with the lower Pt surface enrichment found by XPS. Both types of supported nanostructures contain a gold–platinum interface, as shown by the chemical interface damping, i.e. gold plasmon damping by Pt, found using UV-visible spectroscopy. Evaluation of the materials for plasmon-induced continuous flow CO2 reduction with water, shows that: (1) subnanometer metallic clusters are not suitable for CO2 reduction with water, producing hydrogen from the competing water reduction instead, thereby highlighting the plasmonic nature of the reaction; (2) the highest methane production rates are obtained for the highest Pt enrichments of the surface, i.e. the core–shell-like structures achieved by the thermal DMF reduction method; (3) selectivity towards CO2 reduction vs. the competing water reduction is enhanced by loading of the plasmonic NPs, i.e. coverage of the titania semi-conductor by plasmonic NPs. Full selectivity is achieved for loadings above 6 wt%, regardless of the NPs composition and alloy structure.

Abstract: In a previous study we used asymmetric-flow field-flow fractionation to determine the polymer mass (Mw), gyration radius (Rw) and the polydispersity index of glutenin polymers (GPs) in wheat (Triticum aestivum). Here, using the same multi-location trials (4 years, 11 locations, and 192 cultivars), we report the factors that are associated with the conformation (Conf) of the polymers, which is the slope of Log(Rw) versus a function of Log(Mw). We found that Conf varied between 0.285 and 0.740, it had low broad-sense heritability (H2=16.8), and it was significantly influenced by the temperature occurring over the last month of grain filling. Higher temperatures were found to increase Rw and the compactness and sphericity of GPs. Alleles for both high- and low-molecular-weight glutenin subunits had a significant influence on the Conf value. Assuming a Gaussian distribution for Mw, the number of polymers present in wheat grains was computed for different kernel weights and protein concentrations, and it was found to exceed 1012 GPs per grain. Using atomic force microscopy and cryo-TEM, images of GPs were obtained for the first time. Under higher average temperature, GPs became larger and more spherical and consequently less prone to rapid hydrolysis. We propose some orientations that could be aimed at potentially reducing the impact of numerous GPs on people suffering from non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

Abstract: International audience; Cosserat rod theory proved efficient modeling performances in robotics, especially in the context of continuum robots, in the past decade. The implementation of such theory is far from being unique and straightforward. We consider the illustrative example of multi-segment, general routing tendon actuated continuum robots in their nominal static operating regime. This paper details two main approaches based on Cosserat rod modeling, namely the Newtonian and Lagrangian approaches. We provide a walk-through guide regarding theoretical derivations and numerical implementation of both approaches, together with a proof of equivalence. This comparative study is supplemented with novel contributions and extensions of each approach and in-depth discussion of their performances and applicability, as well as highlighting their special features.

Abstract: International audience; Among a plethora of drug nanocarriers, biocompatible nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (nanoMOFs) with a large surface area and an amphiphilic internal microenvironment have emerged as promising drug delivery platforms, mainly for cancer therapy. However, their application in biomedicine still suffers from shortcomings such as a limited chemical and/or colloidal stability and/or toxicity. Here, we report the design of a hierarchically porous nano-object (denoted as USPIO@MIL) combining a benchmark nanoMOF (that is, MIL-100(Fe)) and ultra-small superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) nanoparticles (that is, maghemite) that is synthesized through a one-pot, cost-effective and environmentally friendly protocol. The synergistic coupling of the physico-chemical and functional properties of both nanoparticles confers to these nano-objects valuable features such as high colloidal stability, high biodegradability, low toxicity, high drug loading capacity as well as stimuli-responsive drug release and superparamagnetic properties. This bimodal MIL-100(Fe)/maghemite nanocarrier once loaded with anti-tumoral and anti-inflammatory drugs (doxorubicin and methotrexate) shows high anti-inflammatory and anti-tumoral activities. In addition, the USPIO@MIL nano-object exhibits excellent relaxometric properties and its applicability as an efficient contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging is herein demonstrated. This highlights the high potential of the maghemite@MOF composite integrating the functions of imaging and therapy as a theranostic anti-inflammatory formulation.

Abstract: International audience; Rhodium-catalysed hydroformylation, effective tool in bulk and fine-chemical synthesis, predominantly uses soluble metal complexes. For that reason, the metal leaching and the catalyst recycling are still the major drawbacks of this process. Single-atom catalysts have emerged as a powerful tool to combine the advantages of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts. Since using an appropriate support material is key to create stable, finely dispersed, single-atom catalysts, here we show that Rh atoms anchored on graphitic carbon nitride are robust catalysts for the hydroformylation reaction of styrene.

Abstract: International audience; In the energy transition, controlling energy consumption is a challenge for everyone, especially for BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) buildings. Artificial Intelligence is an efficient tool to analyze fine prediction with a better accuracy. Intelligent sensors are implemented on the different equipments of a BIPV building to collect information and to take decision about the energy in order to reduce its consumption. This paper presents the implementation of a machine learning model of short and medium term hourly energy production of photovoltaic panels in BIPV buildings on several sites. We selected the data influencing the energy efficiency of the PV panels, with the measurement of variable importance score for each model. Indeed, we have developed and compared several machine learning models of hourly prediction independently of the building location taking into account the weather forecast data on site such as DHI, DNI and GHI and the same in clear sky condition. Five methods are tested and evaluated to determine the best prediction: Random Forest (RF), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Decision Trees regression (DTR), and linear regression. The methods are evaluated based on their ability to predict photovoltaic energy production at hourly and daily resolution.

Abstract: International audience; Fe/Cr/Fe trilayers and multilayers are prepared as model systems designed to furnish simple data comparable with calculation results for diffusion properties in nuclear materials. Their structure (epitaxy, residual strains and dislocations) is characterized in detail. The film structure (strain and stress) is shown to be different on MgO20nm/SrTiO3 and MgO substrates due to the residual strain in the MgO buffer layer on SrTiO3. Superlattices with high crystalline quality are prepared, with Fe and Cr in coherent epitaxy. In-plane residual strain in Fe is +0.45(13)% on MgO substrates and decreases from 1.70(9)% to 0.47(2)% when increasing the thickness of the trilayers on MgO/SrTiO3 substrates. These strains enhance the contrast between Fe and Cr, opening the way to future kinetics studies using x-ray diffraction in this system, which is far more efficient (non-destructive and rapid) than high resolution transmission electron microscopy with electron energy loss spectroscopy or atom probe tomography

Abstract: International audience; L'imagerie par résonance magnétique (IRM) foetale permet d'étudier le développement cérébral. Cependant, les mouvements de l'enfant et de la mère pendant l'acquisition entraînent des artefacts sur les images. Des séquences IRM utltra-rapides, permettent de réduire les artefacts mais du mouvement persiste entre les coupes. Nous proposons une méthode permettant de corriger le mouvement entre les coupes, basée sur l'intersection entre les coupes orthogonales, ainsi qu'une nouvelle méthode pour la détection des coupes mal recalées.

Abstract: Formalizing surgical activities as triplets of the used instruments, actions performed, and target anatomies is becoming a gold standard approach for surgical activity modeling. The benefit is that this formalization helps to obtain a more detailed understanding of tool-tissue interaction which can be used to develop better Artificial Intelligence assistance for image-guided surgery. Earlier efforts and the CholecTriplet challenge introduced in 2021 have put together techniques aimed at recognizing these triplets from surgical footage. Estimating also the spatial locations of the triplets would offer a more precise intraoperative context-aware decision support for computer-assisted intervention. This paper presents the CholecTriplet2022 challenge, which extends surgical action triplet modeling from recognition to detection. It includes weakly-supervised bounding box localization of every visible surgical instrument (or tool), as the key actors, and the modeling of each tool-activity in the form of triplet. The paper describes a baseline method and 10 new deep learning algorithms presented at the challenge to solve the task. Abstract: International audience; Deep learning architectures, albeit successful in most computer vision tasks, were designed for data with an underlying Euclidean structure, which is not usually fulfilled since pre-processed data may lie on a non-linear space. In this paper, we propose a geometric deep learning approach using rigid and non-rigid transformations, named KShapenet, for 2D and 3D landmark-based human motion analysis. Landmark configuration sequences are first modeled as trajectories on Kendall's shape space and then mapped to a linear tangent space. The resulting structured data are then input to a deep learning architecture, which includes a layer that optimizes over rigid and non-rigid transformations of landmark configurations, followed by a CNN-LSTM network. We apply KShapenet to 3D human landmark sequences for action and gait recognition, and 2D facial landmark sequences for expression recognition, and demonstrate the competitiveness of the proposed approach with respect to state-of-the-art.

Abstract: Photocatalysis and Plasma are widely considered as efficient and eco-friendly methods for the air treatment at domestic and industrial scales. In fact, the respective application of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and Dielectric-Barrier-Discharge(DBD) drew increasing attention in the last decades for their, flexible, non-selective and high efficiencies for the mineralization and the degradation of large selection of molecules. Nevertheless, the application of these techniques in separate conditions might generate undesired by-products that might hinder their treatment efficiencies. In this study, the effect of combining photocatalysis and Dielectric-Barrier-Discharge (DBD)techniques was investigated for the treatment of livestock building air at laboratory and industrial scale.. of Experiments were conducted in separate (i.e., Photocatalysis or plasma) and combined (i.e., Photocatalysis and plasma) systems to assess the degradation efficiency of two molecules, namely (NH3) and Propionaldehyde (ProPA) under various operating conditions. Studies onducted on laboratory scale showed a interesting level of treatment when applying either photocatalysis or plasma, with degradation yields reaching 29 and 36% for NH3 and 37 and 42% for ProPA, respectively. These degradation efficiencies were further enhanced when combining the processes, thus reaching 72 and 83% for NH3and ProPA, respectively. Moreover, investigations conducted on the generation of ozone during photocatalysis / Plasma treatment showed a decrease in the O3 concentration when compared to separate Plasma treatment. The photocatalytic degradation of ozone under UV radiation and in presence of TiO2 led to Low concentrations of ozone were detected at joint processas a consequence ofits catalytic decomposition under UV-light into HO2°, OH°,O2°-radicals at high humid conditions. The synergetic effect during the pollutant degradation was explained by the association of discharge plasma, presence of O3, UV-light and TiO2..Additionally,The implementation of the photocatalytic-plasma discharge reactor was performed to treat livestock sector air effluent loaded with ammonia.The effect of airflow and relative himidity were assessed. Results showed a significant NH3 removal efficiency in real conditions where it varied between59 and 75% for a flowrate of 2 m2/h and a relative humidity of 100%. Additonnlay, chemical and olfactometric studies were conducted to assess the performance of cimined sytem with real efflluent of livestock building air.

Abstract: SummaryA system of nonlinear stochastic equations excited by a Gaussian random term leading to a statistically stationary solution is considered. The Carleman linearization is used to handle the nonlinearity and the statistical characterization of the solution is formulated in terms of a sequence of correlations of increasing order. Truncated in a finite but arbitrary order, the problem leads to a linear system of equations yielding directly the correlations. It is demonstrated in two examples that, if the excitation is not too strong, the solution converges as a function of the truncation order and provides an alternative to the Monte Carlo approach consisting in ensemble averaging a large number of time-dependent random solutions. For a low-dimensional system, it is shown that replacing the tensor indexing by a numbering accounting for redundancies makes it possible to keep the total problem dimension within reasonable limits even if relatively high-order correlations are accounted for. A model reduction based on the singular value decomposition of the second-order correlation matrix is tested with success for a case of a partial differential equation (Burgers’ equation), showing that the method can be potentially applied even to high-dimensional systems originating in partial differential equations.

Abstract: International audience; The photoluminescence (PL) of monolayer tungsten disulfide (WS2) is locally and electrically controlled using the nonplasmonic tip and tunneling current of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM). The spatial and spectral distribution of the emitted light is determined using an optical microscope. When the STM tip is engaged, short-range PL quenching due to near-field electromagnetic effects is present, independent of the sign and value of the bias voltage applied to the tip–sample tunneling junction. In addition, a bias-voltage-dependent long-range PL quenching is measured when the sample is positively biased. We explain these observations by considering the native n-doping of monolayer WS2 and the charge carrier density gradients induced by electron tunneling in micrometer-scale areas around the tip position. The combination of wide-field PL microscopy and charge carrier injection using an STM opens up new ways to explore the interplay between excitons and charge carriers in two-dimensional semiconductors.

Abstract: In recent years, fluorescence imaging-relying both on parathyroid gland autofluorescence under near-infrared light and angiography using the fluorescent dye indocyanine green-has been used to reduce risk of iatrogenic parathyroid injury during thyroid and parathyroid resections, but no published guidelines exist regarding its use. In this study, orchestrated by the International Society for Fluorescence Guided Surgery, areas of consensus and nonconsensus were examined among international experts to facilitate future drafting of such guidelines.A 2-round, online Delphi survey was conducted of 10 international experts in fluorescence imaging use during endocrine surgery, asking them to vote on 75 statements divided into 5 modules: 1 = patient preparation and contraindications to fluorescence imaging (n = 11 statements); 2 = technical logistics (n = 16); 3 = indications (n = 21); 4 = potential advantages and disadvantages of fluorescence imaging (n = 20); and 5 = training and research (n = 7). Several methodological steps were taken to minimize voter bias.Overall, parathyroid autofluorescence was considered better than indocyanine green angiography for localizing parathyroid glands, whereas indocyanine green angiography was deemed superior assessing parathyroid perfusion. Additional surgical scenarios where indocyanine green angiography was thought to facilitate surgery are (1) when1 parathyroid gland requires resection; (2) during redo surgeries, (3) facilitating parathyroid autoimplantation; and (4) for the predissection visualization of abnormal glands. Both parathyroid autofluorescence and indocyanine green angiography can be used during the same procedure and employing the same imaging equipment. However, further research is needed to optimize the dose and timing of indocyanine green administration.Though further research remains necessary, using fluorescence imaging appears to have uses during thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Abstract: Objective: There is a growing interest in using pre-heated composites instead of dual-cured cements when luting indirect restorations. This study evaluated the film thickness obtained from two pre-heated composites and two resin cements, by two different operators. The influence of the materials and the level of expertise of the operator were analyzed.Materials and methods: Forty specimens of human dentin and composite discs were prepared and divided into four groups depending on the luting process. Each group was randomly equally divided to be handled by two operators with different levels of experience. Two of the initial four groups were luted using dual-cured cements and the two remaining groups using light-cured pre-heated composites. Specimen discs were cut after luting, and film thickness was measured using a Digital microscope. Data were analyzed using a 2-way ANOVA with the Holm-Sidak pairwise multiple comparison procedure (p < 0.05). Results: Mean film thickness ranged from 156.16 ± 4.7 to 33.82 ± 0.7 μm. Significant differences (p < 0.001) were noticed between expert and novice results with pre-heated composites. Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, using pre-heated composites as a luting cement requires a better level of expertise to achieve a clinically acceptable film thickness. Clinical significance: Using pre-heated composites as luting agent for indirect restorations requires an experimented skill level to achieve a clinically recommended film thickness. Abstract: Item does not contain fulltext Intellectual disability with or without manifestations of autism and/or epilepsy affects 1-2% of the population, and it is estimated that more than 30-50% of these cases have a single genetic cause. More than 1000 genes and recurrent chromosomal abnormalities are involved in these genetic forms of neurodevelopmental disorders, which often remain insufficiently described in terms of clinical spectrum, associated medical problems, etc., due to their rarity and the often-limited number of patients' phenotypes reported. GenIDA is an international online participatory database that aims to better characterise the clinical manifestations and natural histories of these rare diseases. Clinical information is reported by parents of affected individuals using a structured questionnaire exploring physical parameters, cognitive and behavioural aspects, the presence or absence of neurological disorders or problems affecting major physiological functions, as well as autonomy and quality of life. This strengthens the implication in research of the concerned families. GenIDA aims to construct international cohorts of significant size of individuals affected by a given condition. As of July 2022, GenIDA counts some 1545 documented patient records from over 60 nationalities and collaborates with clinicians and researchers around the world who have access to the anonymized data collected to generate new, medically meaningful information to improve patient care. We present the GenIDA database here, together with an overview of the possibilities it offers to affected individuals, their families, and professionals in charge of the management of genetic forms of neurodevelopmental disorders. Finally, case studies of cohorts will illustrate the usefulness of GenIDA.

Abstract: International audience; Since 2008, there has been a major decrease in the numbers of old and large sardines in the Gulf of Lions, which has had a major effect on regional fisheries. A bottom-up process involving a shift in diet towards smaller planktonic prey has been suggested as the main driver of this development. Yet, the reproductive capacities of the sardines have not changed, suggesting potential modifications in energy allocation trade-offs. Whether this could also affect maintenance, in particular at the end of the winter reproductive period, and explain the lower adult survival and the disappearance of older individuals remains unclear. We therefore experimentally investigated the consequences of seasonal food availability (summer vs. winter) on life-history traits and energy allocation trade-offs at the individual and population levels. Our results indicate that food resources during summer had a major effect on energy reserves and growth, limiting the maximum size and body condition reached at the end of reproduction. In addition, food restrictions during growth and/or reproduction periods led to physiological costs mediated by increased oxidative damage. Mediterranean sardines did not show any ability for compensatory growth and did not appear to be capital breeders. Instead, they displayed individual differences in coping with physiological constraints and displayed various life-history strategies regardless of food availability. We highlighted 3 main individual energy allocation strategies: (1) preferential allocation to body condition or (2) to growth, or (3) simultaneous allocation to reproduction and growth. These issues are key, as climate change is expected to favour smaller phytoplankton, which might amplify the deterioration in the condition of pelagic fish.

Abstract: The development of nanoscale composites with hierarchical architecture and complex anisotropies enables the fabrication of new classes of devices. Stretchable strain sensors have been developed in the past for applications in various fields such as wearable electronics and soft robotics, yet the sensing capacities of most of these sensors are independent of the direction of deformation. In the present work, we report on the preparation of a direction-sensitive strain sensor using the anisotropic optical properties of a monolayer of oriented plasmonic 1D nano-objects. Grazing incidence spraying (GIS) is used for depositing a monolayer of in-plane aligned silver nanowires with a controlled density on a deformable and transparent substrate. Using the selective excitation of transverse and longitudinal localized plasmon resonance modes of silver nanowires by polarized UV-visible-NIR spectroscopy, we show that the macroscopic anisotropic properties of the monolayer upon stretching are highly dependent on the stretching direction and light polarization. Measuring the polarized optical properties of the anisotropic thin films upon stretching thus allow for retrieving both the local strain and the direction of the deformation using a simple model.

Abstract: In this study tool life experiments were performed on Inconel 718 (IN718) alloy. The Inconel 718 samples were produced by conventional Cast and Wrought (C&W) and by Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) techniques like Selective Laser Melting (SLM). The as-built SLM samples which were subjected to only Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) are labeled as SLM HIP and both Hot Isostatic Pressing and Aeronautic Heat Treatment are labeled as SLM HIP-AHT. The tool life machining tests were performed using PVD coated carbide insert under emulsion conditions. The surface integrity parameters such as surface roughness, residual stresses, and microhardness were evaluated. The wear mechanisms on the rake and flank faces of the PVD insert were characterized. It's deduced that notch and flank wear near the depth of the cutting zone were the predominant failure mode affecting the tool life. The age-hardened microstructural features of C&W and HIP heat-treated SLM samples have a negative impact on the tool life. Whereas the microstructure obtained by the SLM HIP-AHT sample indeed played an important role by exhibiting 26 % more tool life than SLM HIP samples and 79 % more tool life than the C&W sample.

Abstract: Background and ObjectiveBlood biomarkers for Alzheimer disease (AD) have consistently proven to be associated with CSF or PET biomarkers and effectively discriminate AD from other neurodegenerative diseases. Our aim was to test their utility in clinical practice, from a multicentric unselected prospective cohort where patients presented with a large spectrum of cognitive deficits or complaints.MethodsThe MEMENTO cohort enrolled 2,323 outpatients with subjective cognitive complaint (SCC) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) consulting in 26 French memory clinics. Participants had neuropsychological assessments, MRI, and blood sampling at baseline. CSF sampling and amyloid PET were optional. Baseline blood Aβ42/40 ratio, total tau, p181-tau, and neurofilament light chain (NfL) were measured using a Simoa HD-X analyzer. An expert committee validated incident dementia cases during a 5-year follow-up period.ResultsOverall, 2,277 individuals had at least 1 baseline blood biomarker available (n = 357 for CSF subsample, n = 649 for PET subsample), among whom 257 were diagnosed with clinical AD/mixed dementia during follow-up. All blood biomarkers but total tau were mildly correlated with their equivalence in the CSF (r = 0.33 to 0.46,p< 0.0001) and were associated with amyloid-PET status (p< 0.0001). Blood p181-tau was the best blood biomarker to identify amyloid-PET positivity (area under the curve = 0.74 [95% CI = 0.69; 0.79]). Higher blood and CSF p181-tau and NfL concentrations were associated with accelerated time to AD dementia onset with similar incidence rates, whereas blood Aβ42/40 was less efficient than CSF Aβ42/40. Blood p181-tau alone was the best blood predictor of 5-year AD/mixed dementia risk (c-index = 0.73 [95% CI = 0.69; 0.77]); its accuracy was higher in patients with clinical dementia rating (CDR) = 0 (c-index = 0.83 [95% CI = 0.69; 0.97]) than in patients with CDR = 0.5 (c-index = 0.70 [95% CI = 0.66; 0.74]). A “clinical” reference model (combining demographics and neuropsychological assessment) predicted AD/mixed dementia risk with a c-index = 0.88 [95% CI = 0.86–0.91] and performance increased to 0.90 [95% CI = 0.88; 0.92] when adding blood p181-tau + Aβ42/40. A “research” reference model (clinical model + apolipoprotein E genotype and AD signature on MRI) had a c-index = 0.91 [95% CI = 0.89–0.93] increasing to 0.92 [95% CI = 0.90; 0.93] when adding blood p181-tau + Aβ42/40. Chronic kidney disease and vascular comorbidities did not affect predictive performances.DiscussionIn a clinic-based cohort of patients with SCC or MCI, blood biomarkers may be good hallmarks of underlying pathology but add little to 5-year dementia risk prediction models including traditional predictors.

Abstract: International audience; Organic–inorganic hybrid materials were prepared by intercalation of iron 5,10,15,20 tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin complex into layered double hydroxides (ZnCr-FeTSPP LDH) and layered simple hydroxides (Zn-FeTSPP LSH) by coprecipitation. They have been characterized by ancillary techniques to compare their structural characteristics, their morphology and their ability to form films on conductive substrates in view of preparing modified electrodes for CO2 electroreduction reaction (CO2ERR). The electrochemical behavior of intercalated FeTSPP was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) showing the role of the nature and pH of aqueous electrolyte solutions on the FeIII/II signal. Evaluation of the CO2ERR of ZnCr-FeTSPP modified electrode was investigated by CV and preparative scale CO2 electrolysis in 0.1 M Na2SO4 aqueous solution. Whereas FeTSPP in the same electrolyte solution exhibits 18% of CO2 conversion to CO, once intercalated into ZnCr-LDH, there is no CO formation, only H2 (FY = 75%). Using the ZnCr-NO3 modified electrode, without porphyrin, the same FY of H2 was obtained. The study illustrates the problematic and the complexity of an attractive approach for the development of innovative hybrid catalysts for heterogeneous CO2ERR.

Abstract: There is growing evidence that liver transplantation (LT) is the most effective treatment for acute-on-chronic liver failure grade-3 (ACLF-3). This study examines whether and how this evidence translates into practice by analyzing the variability in intensive care unit (ICU) admissions, listing strategies, and LT activity for patients with ACLF-3 across transplantation centers in Europe. Consecutive patients who were admitted to the ICU with ACLF-3, whether or not they were listed and/or transplanted with ACLF-3, between 2018 and 2019 were included across 20 transplantation centers. A total of 351 patients with ACLF-3 were included: 33 had been listed prior to developing ACLF-3 and 318 had not been listed at the time of admission to the ICU. There was no correlation between the number of unlisted patients with ACLF-3 admitted to the ICU and the number listed or transplanted while in ACLF-3 across centers. By contrast, there was a correlation between the number of patients listed and the number transplanted while in ACLF-3. About 21% of patients who were listed while in ACLF-3 died on the waiting list or were delisted. The percentage of LT for patients with ACLF-3 varied from 0% to 29% for those transplanted with decompensated cirrhosis across centers (average = 8%), with an I(2) index of 68% (95% confidence interval, 49%-80%), showing substantial heterogeneity among centers. The 1-year survival for all patients with ACLF-3 was significantly higher in centers that listed and transplanted more patients with ACLF-3 (>10 patients) than in centers that listed and transplanted fewer: 36% versus 20%, respectively (p = 0.012). Patients with ACLF-3 face inequity of access to LT across Europe. Waitlisting strategies for patients with ACLF-3 influence their access to LT and, ultimately, their survival.

Abstract: International audience; The formation of 2:1 and 1:1 phyllosilicates in Fe–Si–O–H systems occurs in various geological and engineering settings; however, the identification and characterization of these minerals is very challenging due to the limited amount that is accessible, the very small particle size, and often the large degree of heterogeneity of these samples. To overcome these drawbacks, the synthesis of iron-rich phyllosilicates was attempted in this study with an initial Fe/Si molar ratio ranging from 0.50 to 2.33. The synthesis was performed at 150°C under hydrothermal conditions over a period of 7 days. Synthesis products were characterized by X-ray diffraction and fluorescence, by infrared, Raman, and Mössbauer spectroscopies, and by transmission electron microscopy. Results revealed that the stability field of the 2:1 clay mineral was wider than that of the 1:1 clay mineral. The 2:1 clay mineral was less sensitive to redox conditions compared to the 1:1 clay mineral. In addition, a heterogeneity of phases formed (iron oxides, nontronite, cronstedtite, or greenalite) was identified.

Abstract: In this work different variables that can affect the catalytic behavior of CuO-CeO2 supported on mesoporous silica (SBA-15 and SBA-16) were studied. The influence on the COPrOx activity of the relative concentration of the CuO and CeO2 active phase and different impregnation methods in mesoporous support was analyzed. The physicochemical characterization was performed EDS-SEM and TEM-STEM, N2 isotherms, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The incipient wetness impregnation method (IWI) was the better alternative to introduce the active phases compared to solid state impregnation (SSI). In addition, the catalysts based on 2-D structure of SBA-15 were more active and selective than those based in 3-D SBA-16. In general, the high surface area of the supports benefited the dispersion of CuO and CeO2 oxides nanoparticles. All catalysts displayed the preservation of the mesostructure and the formation of nanoparticles of active phases (less than 10 nm) detected by TEM. The best COPrOx catalyst, obtained from the SBA-15 fibers by IWI method, with a relative CuO concentration of 0.2, exhibited XCO ≥ 99% at 175 °C and above 90% in a wide window of temperatures. This catalyst showed an adequate performance in presence of CO2 and H2O and good recovery of CO conversion and selectivity. The analysis by XPS revealed that the majority species were Ce4+, however in some catalysts Ce3+ species are also present, which are associated with vacancies oxygen and favor the redox process. In addition, Cu2+ and Cu+ species are present, the latter recognized as a key site of CO adsorption in the reaction mechanism.

Abstract: In this paper a novel approach for the experimental measurement of the ablation by melting is presented. The experiments are carried out with a hypersonic shock tunnel. The tested models are made of gallium, which melts at low temperatures, allowing the generation and then the measurement of the ablation profiles within only two milliseconds. By means of an optical visualization, the model surface changes are recorded during the experiment. An image post-processing algorithm computes the ablation profiles. The results for two hemisphere-cone models and one hemisphere-cylinder model in a Mach 4.5 nitrogen flow are presented. It is found that the maximum ablation occurs at an angular position of around 30 degrees off-axis rather than at the stagnation point. This is most likely a consequence of the laminar-turbulent transition on the model forebody.

Abstract: Patients factors in addition to radiological characteristics could predict the presence of pathologic venous invasion in patients undergoing pancreatectomy with venous resection.We tested the predictive value of 6 radiological classification methods for predicting pathologic venous invasion-the Nakao, Ishikawa, MD Anderson, Lu, Raptopoulos, and National Comprehensive Cancer Network methods-on a cohort of 198 pancreatectomies (160 pancreaticoduodenectomies and 38 total pancreatectomies) with venous resection for pancreatic adenocarcinomas. Radiological and clinical factors determining pathologic venous invasion were identified by multivariable logistic analysis.Pathologic venous invasion was detected in 124 patients (63.2%). The multivariable logistic regression analysis identified Lu classification (odds ratio = 1.77, 95% confidence interval =1.34-2.35; P.0001), elevated serum CA19-9 values (odds ratio = 1.97, 95% confidence interval = 1.00-3.90; P = .04), and preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy (odds ratio = 0.38, 95% confidence interval = 0.18-0.79; P = .009) as independent factors associated with pathologic venous invasion. Radiological tumor-vessel contact greater than 50% of the circumference or venous wall deformity was associated with a significantly higher rate of pathological venous invasion (80% vs 52%; P.0001), deeper (media-intima) venous invasion (47% vs 25%; P.0001), R1 resection (58% vs 41%; P = .03), higher transfusions (84% vs 66%; P = .005), and arterial resection rates (43% vs 27%; P.0001). Tumor-vein circumference contact of50% and/or venous wall deformity was still associated with significantly higher rates of pathologic venous invasion, regardless of whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy was used or not and CA19-9 normalized or not under preoperative treatment.Preoperative radiological detection of tumor-vein circumference contact50% and/or venous wall deformity is associated with up to 80% of cases of pathological venous invasion. The combination of radiologic features with biological (CA19-9) and clinical (presence of preoperative chemotherapy) factors could better refine preoperatively the need for venous resection.

Abstract: International audience; We report on the first production of an antihydrogen beam by charge exchange of 6.1 keV antiprotons with a cloud of positronium in the GBAR experiment at CERN. The antiproton beam was delivered by the AD/ELENA facility. The positronium target was produced from a positron beam itself obtained from an electron linear accelerator. We observe an excess over background indicating antihydrogen production with a significance of 3-4 standard deviations.

Abstract: International audience; Industry 4.0 seeks both to digitalize SMEs and to bring companies closer to their market. One of the responses is the Do-it-together (DIT) concept, which combines co-creation, and open-manufacturing. This concept is transposed in the form of a physical and digital INEDIT demonstrator (EU project). This study analyses the design modalities of multimodal interfaces and multi-platform (web app, AR mobile app, VR app) supporting the DIT process. The study focuses on the realization of an original UX design protocol allowing to design and evaluate by use this potential "multi-sided" platform. The results allow us to better understand the modalities of implementation of such an approach mixing Action Research and Living Lab for industry. We can appreciate over time the commitment of the stakeholders and their ability to co-create such a platform. This work allows us to draw recommendations for the development of support technologies for socialmanufacturing and provides argument for a Multi-UX scale.

Abstract: International audience; This article presents an hybrid and hierarchical model in which two modeling and simulation approaches, discrete event system specification simulation (DEVS) and semantic technologies, were used together in order to help in the analysis of a major healthcare problem, the severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Indeed, the complexity of the SARS-CoV-2 replication process, and the range of hierarchical scales over which it interacts with cellular components (extending from genomic and transcriptomic to proteomic and metabolomic scales), and the intricate way in which they are interwoven, make its understanding very challenging. It is therefore crucial to model the different scales of the replication process, by taking into account all interactions with the infected cell. By combining the advantages of both DEVS simulation and ontological modeling, we propose a hierarchical ontology-based DEVS simulation model of the SARS-CoV-2 viral replication at both the micro-molecular (proteomic and metabolomic) and macro-molecular (genomic and transcriptomic) scales. First, we demonstrate the usefulness of combining DEVS simulation and semantic technologies in a common modeling framework to face the complexity of the SARS-CoV-2 viral replication at different scales. Second, the modeling and simulation of the SARS-CoV-2 replication process on different levels provide valuable information on the different stages of the virus’s life cycle and lays the foundation for a system to anticipate future mutations selected by the virus.
