Abstract

A new solvent/ligand-controlled switchable C–H arylation of 1-methyl-4-nitro-1H-indazole catalyzed by Pd(OAc)2 was achieved. A bidentate ligand in DMA promoted the activation at C7 position, while a phosphine ligand in H2O oriented the arylation at C3 position. The C3 and C7 arylation products were obtained in moderate to good yields and with high regioselectivity.

Abstract

A chemically vapor deposited MoS2 nanosheets (NSs) is aged in the laboratory at ambient and at 40% average humidity for ~36 months. Nanorods of few microns in length and few nanometers in diameter are found to grow from the MoS2 seeds. They have been growing as a result of the chemical reaction between the MoS2 NSs and ambient O2 and moisture, they exhibit an amorphous phase structure in the stoichiometric form of MoO3. Density functional theory simulations further reveal the role of H2O and O2 in the transformation of the MoS2 NSs. The adsorption energy of O2 molecules on the MoS2 sites is Ead = −1.09 eV as compared to lowest absolute Ead = −0.10 eV of H2O indicating the favorable adsorption of O2 and subsequent Mo oxidation. This study provides valuable insight into the aging phenomenon of MoS2 exposed to O2 and moisture which might limit their application.

Abstract

International audience; Tungsten disulfide nanosheets were successfully prepared by one-step chemical vapor deposition using tungsten oxide and thiourea in an inert gas environment. The size of the obtained nanosheets was subsequently reduced down to below 20 nm in width and 150 nm in length using high-energy ball milling, followed by 0.5 and 1 wt% graphene loading. The corresponding vibrational and structural characterizations are consistent with the fabrication of a pure WS2 structure for neat sampling and the presence of the graphene characteristic vibration modes in graphene@WS2 compounds. Additional morphological and crystal structures were examined and confirmed by high-resolution electron microscopy. Subsequently, the investigations of the optical properties evidenced the high optical absorption (98%) and lower band gap (1.75 eV) for the graphene@WS2 compared to the other samples, with good band-edge alignment to water-splitting reaction. In addition, the photoelectrochemical measurements revealed that the graphene@WS2 (1 wt%) exhibits an excellent photocurrent density (95 mu A/cm(2) at 1.23 V bias) compared with RHE and higher applied bias potential efficiency under standard simulated solar illumination AM1.5G. Precisely, graphene@WS2 (1 wt%) exhibits 3.3 times higher performance compared to pristine WS2 and higher charge transfer ability, as measured by electrical impedance spectroscopy, suggesting its potential use as an efficient photoanode for hydrogen evolution reaction.

Abstract

International audience; The efficient monitoring of the environment is currently gaining a continuous growing interest in view of finding solutions for the global pollution issues and their associated climate change. In this sense, two-dimensional (2D) materials appear as one of highly attractive routes for the development of efficient sensing devices due, in particular, to the interesting blend of their superlative properties. For instance, graphene (Gr) and graphitic carbon nitride g-C3N4 (g-CN) have specifically attracted great attention in several domains of sensing applications owing to their excellent electronic and physical-chemical properties. Despite the high potential they offer in the development and fabrication of high-performance gas-sensing devices, an exhaustive comparison between Gr and g-CN is not well established yet regarding their electronic properties and their sensing performances such as sensitivity and selectivity. Hence, this work aims at providing a state-of-the-art overview of the latest experimental advances in the fabrication, characterization, development, and implementation of these 2D materials in gas-sensing applications. Then, the reported results are compared to our numerical simulations using density functional theory carried out on the interactions of Gr and g-CN with some selected hazardous gases' molecules such as NO2, CO2, and HF. Our findings conform with the superior performances of the g-CN regarding HF detection, while both g-CN and Gr show comparable detection performances for the remaining considered gases. This allows suggesting an outlook regarding the future use of these 2D materials as high-performance gas sensors.

Abstract

In the surge of recent successes of 2D materials following the rise of graphene, molybdenum disulfide (2D-MoS2) has been attracting growing attention from both fundamental and applications viewpoints, owing to the combination of its unique nanoscale properties. For instance, the bandgap of 2D-MoS2, which changes from direct (in the bulk form) to indirect for ultrathin films (few layers), offers new prospects for various applications in optoelectronics. In this review, we present the latest scientific advances in the field of synthesis and characterization of 2D-MoS2 films while highlighting some of their applications in energy harvesting, gas sensing, and plasmonic devices. A survey of the physical and chemical processing routes of 2D-MoS2 is presented first, followed by a detailed description and listing of the most relevant characterization techniques used to study the MoS2 nanomaterial as well as theoretical simulations of its interesting optical properties. Finally, the challenges related to the synthesis of high quality and fairly controllable MoS2 thin films are discussed along with their integration into novel functional devices.

Abstract

International audience; In the biotechnology field, nanoparticles with a strong magnetic moment can bring attractive and novel potentialities. They are detectable, manipulable, stimulable by a magnetic field and they could be applied as nano-tracers for medical imaging and nano-vectors for transporting therapeutic agents to a target. For our part, we applied Fe3O4 nanoparticles to immobilize bacteria of Moroccan strains in order to develop bacterial bioreactor. For this aim, we got through the synthesis and characterization of magnetite Fe3O4 nanoparticles by co-precipitation in basic medium. The obtained nanoparticles were encapsulated in silica by sol-gel process. The results of this step allowed us to use Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles to immobilize Bacillus licheniformis by adsorption and separate it magnetically. The principle of this system gives us the opportunity to develop a bacterial bioreactor for industrial applications.

Abstract

International audience; Fluoromethylated imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidines and benzimidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidines were synthesized through Michael addition/intramolecular cyclization reaction by condensation of 2-amino imidazole derivatives with ethyl 4,4,4-trifluorobut-2-ynoate and using C–O bond activation. The synthons thus obtained can be functionalized by forming new chemical bonds, including C–C, C–N and C–S, to provide easy access to a wide range of novel trifluoromethylated imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidines and benzimidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidines in good to excellent yields. Preliminary biological evaluation revealed a number of derivatives displaying micromolar IC50 values against monoamine oxidase B and butyrylcholinesterase, two important targets in the field of neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract

International audience; This paper presents a three-dimensional numerical simulation of material mixing observed in the friction stir welding process using a mesh-free approach. This mesh-free approach is based on the coupling of the moving least squares and the techniques of the asymptotic numerical method which is applied on a strong formulation to avoid numerical integration. The strong formulation is obtained from equations of the mass conservation and of the moment in the three-dimensional case. Numerical examples are given to illustrate that this mesh-free approach is accurate, effective and feasible, especially in the material mixing problem. Abstract

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a bacteria that infects the stomach and induces inflammatory gastritis, which can be chronic and progress to gastric cancer. The severity of the infection and its clinical course are associated with various factors including the immune status of the host. The initial inflammatory response to H. pylori infection results in the secretion of a wide range of cytokines, including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-8 and IL-17A. which appear to play a key role in the initiation and progression of gastric cancer. Among these cytokines, IL-1β is a key cytokine during H. pylori infection whose expression is associated with gastric inflammation and carcinogenesis. The production of this cytokine depends on the activation of the inflammasome, in particular the NLRP3 inflammasome. The latter, responsible of the activation of inflammatory processes, is essential for the maintenance of homeostasis against various pathogenic infections such as bacterial and viral infections.The general objective of this work is i) to study the expression and polymorphism of genes for cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-17 and IL-8 in Moroccan patients infected with H. pylori. ii) explore the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome by H. pylori and determine the mechanisms involved in the activation of this complex by RNA viruses; known as defined activators of NLRP3.Our results underlined a high prevalence of H. pylori and demonstrated a cytokine signature: it can predict metaplasia during the progression of H. pylori infection involving a decrease in IL17A expression in the antrum and increased expression of IL-1β in the fundus. In particular, the genetic polymorphisms of IL-1β (IL-1β -31 and -511) do not appear to influence IL-1β expression significantly.In view of the difficulties encountered in isolating and culturing H. pylori, we used LPS from H. pylori to stimulate the inflammasome. Our results show that the transfection of cells in vitro with bacterial LPS induces the production of IL-1β which appears to be modulated by caspase 4, NOD1 and NOD2. Furthermore, while it is clearly established that RNA viruses induce activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, the mechanisms by which these viruses induce IL-1β production are not well understood and remain to be confirmed. The results of this part of the work showed that the replication of cytopathogenic RNA viruses such as vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) or encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) induces lytic cell death leading to an efflux of potassium which triggers activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. Thus, viruses with a high replication capacity and which have a cytopathic effect are capable of inducing the activation of caspase-1 leading to the production of IL-1β. Conversely, viruses which induce type I IFN response are very poor inducers of the NLRP3 inflammasome.A better understanding of the activation of the inflammasome could help in the development of targeted therapeutic strategies for use in the fight against bacterial and viral infections.Key words: Helicobacter pylori, inflammation, NLRP3 inflammasome, IL-1β, RNA virus.; Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) est une bactérie qui infecte l’estomac et induit une gastrite inflammatoire, qui peut être chronique et évoluer vers un cancer gastrique. La sévérité de l’infection et son évolution clinique sont associées aux différents facteurs notamment le statut immunitaire de l’hôte. La réponse inflammatoire initiale à l'infection à H. pylori entraîne la sécrétion d'un large panel de cytokines, notamment l'interleukine-1β (IL-1β), l'IL-8 et l'IL-17A. qui semblent jouer un rôle clé dans l'initiation et la progression du cancer gastrique. Parmi ces cytokines, l'IL-1β est une cytokine clé au cours de l’infection à H. pylori dont l’expression est étroitement associée à l'inflammation gastrique et à la carcinogenèse. La production de cette cytokine dépend de l'activation de l'inflammasome, en particulier l'inflammasome NLRP3. Ce dernier, responsable de l’activation des processus inflammatoires, est essentiel pour le maintien de l'homéostasie contre diverses infections pathogènes telles les infections bactérienne et virale.L’objectif général de ce travail est i) d’étudier l’expression et le polymorphisme des gènes de cytokines comme IL-1β, IL-17 et IL-8 chez des patients marocains infectés par H. pylori. ii) explorer l’activation de l'inflammasome NLRP3 par H. pylori et déterminer les mécanismes impliqués dans l'activation de ce complexe par des virus à ARN ; connus comme des activateurs définis de NLRP3.Nos résultats ont souligné une prévalence élevée de H. pylori et ont mis en évidence une signature cytokinique : elle peut prédire la métaplasie au cours de la progression de l'infection à H. pylori impliquant une diminution de l’expression de l'IL17A dans l’antre et une augmentation de l’expression de l'IL-1β dans le fundus. Plus particulièrement, les polymorphismes génétiques de l’IL-1β (IL-1β -31 et -511) ne semblent pas influencer l’expression de l’IL-1β de manière significative.Au regard des difficultés rencontrés pour l’isolement et la culture de H. pylori, nous avons utilisé le LPS de H. pylori pour stimuler l’inflammasome. Nos résultats montrent que la transfection des cellules in vitro par le LPS bactérien induit la production de l’IL-1β qui semble être modulée par la caspase 4, NOD1 et NOD2. Par ailleurs, bien qu’il soit clairement établi que les virus à ARN induisent l’activation de l’inflammasome NLRP3, les mécanismes par lesquels ces virus induisent la production d'IL-1β ne sont pas bien compris et restent à confirmer. Les résultats de cette partie du travail ont montré que la réplication des virus à ARN cytopathogènes tels que le virus de la stomatite vésiculaire (VSV) ou le virus de l'encéphalomyocardite (EMCV) induit une mort cellulaire lytique conduisant à un efflux de potassium qui déclenche l'activation de l'inflammasome NLRP3. Ainsi, les virus à forte capacité de réplication et qui ont un effet cytopathique sont capables d'induire l'activation de la caspase-1 conduisant à la production d'IL-1β. A l'inverse, les virus qui induisent une très bonne réponse IFN de type I sont de très mauvais inducteurs de l'inflammasome NLRP3.Une meilleure compréhension de l’activation de l’inflammasome pourrait aider dans la mise au point de stratégies thérapeutiques ciblées utilisables dans la lutte contre les infections bactérienne et virale.Mots clés : Helicobacter pylori, inflammation, inflammasome NLRP3, IL-1β, virus à ARN.

Abstract

The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the ability of ethyl acetate fraction (EAF) from Ephedra fragilis to function as a protective agent against hydrogen peroxide induced oxidative damage in Tetrahymena pyriformis. The cells were preincubated with EAF (50-200 μg/mL) or ascorbic acid (50 μg/mL) for 24 h, followed by incubation with 50% H2O2 inhibitory concentration for 48 h. Cell viability was assessed using trypan exclusion method. Cell morphology and mobility, antioxidant enzymes activities (catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione reductase (GR)), malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl (PCO) levels, DNA fragmentation and metabolic enzymes activities (succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and NADPH-cytochrome c reductase (NCCR)) were investigated. Our results indicate that, pretreatment of T. pyriformis cells with EAF improved the cell viability, restored normal cell mobility and morphology, decreased the levels of both MDA and PCO level, prevent DNA fragmentation and enhanced the activity of antioxidant (CAT, SOD and GR) and metabolic (SDH and NCCR) enzymes in H2O2 damaged cells. In conclusion, these results suggest for the first time that E. fragilis is a promising source of natural antioxidants, that could offer protection against oxidative stress and should be further exploited for its use in clinical medicine.

Abstract

International audience; We discuss a reduced-order modeling technique based on Fourier series for membrane wrinkling when the orientation of the wrinkles is not uniform. Indeed, the orientation of the wrinkles depends on geometry and loading, for instance in the case of perforated membrane or with non uniform residual stresses. This Fourier-based reduction technique is an extension of the famous Ginzburg-Landau equation and it has been applied to the wrinkling of beams, plates, sandwich structures and film-substrate systems. The obtained reduced macroscopic models can be discretized by finite elements. In this paper, a finite element of type Discrete Kirchhoff Triangle (DKT18) is used in the numerical applications, the starting model being the Föppl von Karman (FvK) or Extended Föppl von Karman (EFvK) shell models.

Abstract

International audience; An efficient numerical model is developed in this work for the bifurcation analysis within Föppl-von Karman plate theory. This procedure is based on the use of the method of fundamental solutions in a high order continuation method that relies on Taylor series expansion with respect to a path parameter. This numerical model has an adaptive step length, which is effective especially for solving nonlinear problems and detecting bifurcation points. Despite of the huge application field of nonlinear elasticity, the method of fundamental solution was very rarely applied in this field and never to a nonlinear elastic plate model. The governing equations are strongly formulated in terms of the two unknowns: the deflection and the stress function. The singular value decomposition regularization is used to overcome the difficulty of the resulting system ill-conditioning. The accuracy and efficiency of the numerical model are illustrated on buckling numerical examples.

Abstract

International audience; Nanocrystals of zinc-cobalt molybdate (Zn1-xCoxMoO4) were prepared by the glycine-nitrate process (GNP) route with a glycine/nitrate ratio of 2:3 and compared to the solid state synthesis. The obtained powders were characterized by thermal analysis (TGA-TDA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. The morphology was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET). The particle size was determined by transmission electron microscopies (TEM). UV–Visible spectroscopy and CIE L*a*b* colorimetric parameters have been used for the colour characterisation and measurement. The compounds obtained present two single-phased domains regardless of the synthesis method. The first domain of blue colour corresponding to a level of cobalt x such as: 0 = x ≤ 0.3, isostructural with α-ZnMoO4 of triclinic symmetry and the second domain of green colour, for cobalt x levels such as: 0.45 = x ≤ 1 isostructural with α-CoMoO4 of monoclinic structure. The Zn0.7Co0.3MoO4 powders obtained at 700 °C by GNP route and synthesized in acidic environment were formed of particles of quasi-spherical morphology, with average size of crystallites estimated between 80 - 140 nm.

Abstract

International audience; The aim of this study was to detennine the effect of different complexing agents and of the annealing tem­perature on the structural, morphological and optical properties of the synthesized precursors. Thus, cobalt aluminate nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel method using polyacrylic acid, glycine or citric acid as complexing agents. The synthesis performed at 500°C for 5 hours led to dark green powders composed of solid solutions denoted Co2+ [Agci-x)Co????;i]O4 and of amorphous alumina (39.8wt%). Calcination at temperatures above 900°C caused the powder colour to change from dark green to blue. A direct spinel structure Co2+ [Al????+] 04 is all the more achieved as the annealing temperature is high. The powder obtained using polyacrylic acid as the complexing agent at 900°C for 5 hours revealed the best morphology; it consisted of agglomerates of primary particles with a quasi- spherical shape and a size in the range 20-40 nm.

Abstract

The effect of extraction conditions on polyphenols contents and condensed tannins by microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) was studied for the first time to our knowledge. Moroccan barks of Acacia mollissima was used to extract phenolic compounds. The variables studied are the following: power extraction, time extraction and solvent nature. Five powers extraction were tested: 150 W, 250 W, 300 W, 450 W and 600 W. A significant effect of power extraction on the extractable nature was proved by ANOVA and Student test. The yields were also affected by time extraction. Different solvent (water, ethanol, methanol and ethyl acetate) were tested to evaluate the best extraction solvent according to the extractable nature. Highest polyphenols contents were obtained with methanol. The proportion of this solvent, time extraction and power extraction were optimized using the response surface methodology (RSM). A face-centered composite design (FCCD) was applied to evaluate the effects of these variables on the polyphenols and condensed tannins contents. For each experiment, the extraction yield, the total polyphenolic contents and the condensed tannins contents were quantified using colorimetric essays. The extracts were characterized by their reactivity to formaldehyde and reverse phase high pressure liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The highest polyphenols content was obtained at 156 W using 80% of methanol during 5 min. For condensed tannins, the highest content of cyanidin was obtained at 182 W using 20% of methanol during 3.66 min. RSM applied in MAE, permitted to develop green extraction process of polyphenols and tannins extracted, using lower microwave power and methanol proportion with a shortest time extraction and in the same time improve the quantity of extractables obtained from renewable natural resource. Abstract

International audience; New algorithms, combining asymptotic numerical method (ANM) and method of fundamental solutions, are proposed to compute bifurcation points on branch solutions of a nonlinear bi-harmonic problem. Three methods, mainly based on asymptotic developments framework, are then proposed. The first one consists in exploiting the ANM step accumulation close to the bifurcation points on a solution branch, the second method allows the introduction of an indicator that vanishes at the bifurcation points, and finally the first real root of the Padé approximant denominator represents the third bifurcation indicator. Two numerical examples are considered to analyze the robustness of these algorithms.

Abstract

Due to its renewability, availability and high cellulose content (≈45%), Alfa fibers (Stipa tenacissima) have been identified as a sustainable source for cellulose microfibers (CMF) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) production. Subjecting raw Alfa fibers to alkali, bleaching and sulfuric acid hydrolysis treatments allowed producing CMF and CNC with high yields. The fluorescence microscopy confirmed that CMF, with average diameter of 10 μm, were successfully obtained after bleaching treatments. TEM and AFM showed that the CNC exhibit needle-like shape with an average diameter and length of 5 ± 3 nm and 330 ± 30 nm, respectively, giving rise to an aspect ratio of about 66. XPS measurement confirmed the presence of sulfate groups on the surface of CNC with 2.04 sulfate groups per 100 anhydroglucose units, confirming the negatively charged surface of CNC, with zeta potential value of − 47.39 mV. XRD studies showed that CMF and CNC exhibit cellulose I structure with crystallinity index of 71% and 90%, respectively. FTIR and TGA analyses were used to identify the chemical composition and thermal stability changes during different chemical treatments, suggesting that all non-cellulosic compounds were removed after alkali and bleaching treatments. The obtained CNC were dispersed into three different biopolymer matrices, e.g. chitosan, alginate, and k-carrageenan, at various CNC loadings (1, 3, 5 and 8 wt%), to evaluate their ability to enhance the tensile properties of biopolymers and, at the same time, to produce new biopolymer-based nanocomposite films. It was found that the tensile properties of the as-produced nanocomposite films were largely improved with addition of CNC, resulting in mechanically strong and flexible ecofriendly nanocomposite films.

Abstract

A new microfiltration ceramic membrane has been developed by uniaxially compressing natural Moroccan materials: red clay of Safi and natural phosphate of Youssoufia, which is rich in organic matter. The natural phosphate can be beneficial to porosity formation. The effects of natural phosphate on the morphological and flexural strength of the flat disks sintered at 1100 °C were studied to identify the optimal mass ratio of clay and phosphate via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and flexural strength testing. The optimal composition of the flat ceramic membrane contained 40 wt% natural phosphate, which led to a linear thermal expansion coefficient less than 13.42 × 10− 6 °C− 1, flexural strength of 17.5 MPa and Young's modulus of 40.12 GPa. The average pore diameter and water permeability of the obtained ceramic membrane were respectively 2.5 μm and 928 L/(h·m2·bar). The microfiltration membrane efficiency was evaluated by filtering three feed solutions types: a tannery beamhouse effluent, a raw seawater and a synthetic solution of aluminium chloride (at high pH). The obtained ceramic membrane exhibited superior turbidity removal efficiency for all studied feeds: effluent (99.80%), seawater (99.62%) and synthetic solution (99.86%). Moreover, this microfiltration membrane showed good microstructure and mechanical stability after filtration experiments.

Abstract

International audience; The solar radiation absorbed by the photovoltaic thermal systems and not transformed into electricity creates a thermal problem that significantly influences the reliability and efficiency of the photovoltaic cells. In order to passively solve this problem in the hot arid climate, the night radiative cooling technology was proposed in this work, where the water of the system was cooled by circulating in the collector exploiting the proposed technic, and it was used the next day for cooling the photovoltaic cells. For this aim, a mathematical model was developed to present the dynamic thermal behaviour of the PV/T water-based collector, based on the energy balance of its components. Then, the proposed model was validated using the experimental data available in the literature and it was used to study the effect of the glazing and the masse flow rate of water on the cooling performance. The main result indicates that the proposed method reduces the daily temperature of the photovoltaic cells by 3 to 5°C which improves their monthly gain of electrical energy by 5.5% to 6.15% compared with a conventional photovoltaic thermal collector. Consequently, the proposed method allows profiting of the annual potential of the night radiative phenomenon which saved 18.49 kWh as an annual gain of electrical energy.

Abstract

International audience; Studies of argyrodite Li6PS5Cl as solid electrolyte are increasing, motivated by its high ionic conductivity and its easy processability. However, development of All-Solid-State-Batteries lies on the ability to produce such compound with a good purity. This work presents the characterization results of different argyrodite grades: commercial and homemade one. In parallel, synthesis of Li6PS5Cl from Li4P2S7 precursor is reported for the first time. The purity effect on these properties will be explored by using X-ray diffraction coupled with Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. Crystal properties investigations will be particularly conducted, given that smaller crystallite sizes would lead to an enhanced ionic percolation network by increasing the microstructure homogeneity in catholyte. Such SE could be obtained only by avoiding a post synthesis annealing treatment. Finally, electrochemical properties of the different reported grades will also be discussed in this study. We demonstrate here 1. the beneficial effect of Li4P2S7 to obtain a pure sulfur-based solid electrolyte with nanometric crystallites without solid state synthesis and 2. the impact of impurities on its ionics and electrochemical properties.

Abstract

International audience; The aim of our work is the numerical modeling of two dimensional mechanical–thermal material mixing observed in stir welding process using a high order algorithm. This algorithm is based on coupling a meshless approach, a time discretization, a homotopy transformation, a development in Taylor series and a continuation method. The performance of the proposed model is the consideration of large deformations in the formulation of the posed problem. For the spatial treatment, we use the moving least squares approximation which will be applied directly to the strong form formulation of conservation equations. Each collocation point holds mechanical–thermal variables. The high order algorithm and the homotopy transformation allow reducing the number of tangent matrices to decompose and to avoid iterative procedure. Comparisons with the classical iterative solver (Jamal et al. in J Comput Mech 28:375–380, 2002) are performed. Numerical results reveal that a few number of matrix factorization is needed with the proposed approach, decreasing the computation time.

Abstract

A new strategy for the construction of 3-phenyl-1H-pyrrolo-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine backbone is described. The reaction starts from the coupling between N-tosylhydrazones and 2-chloro-3-nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines leading to the formation of 3-nitro-2-(arylvinyl)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives. Optimization of Cadogan-reductive conditions allowed the conversion of the obtained nitro derivative to a new scaffold of the type 3-aryl-1H-pyrrolo-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine. This method provides rapid access to new libraries in the context of diversity-oriented synthesis, which intends to generate small molecules with a large structure diversity in an efficient manner. Screening of the biological activity of the newly generated compounds leads to the identification of a new promising compound 5cc, which exhibits good antiproliferative activity in the submicromolar range against a human colon cancer cell line.

Abstract

The recent emergence and spread of X-linked segregation distorters—called “Paris” system—in the worldwide species Drosophila simulans has elicited the selection of drive-resistant Y chromosomes. Here, we investigate the evolutionary history of 386 Y chromosomes originating from 29 population samples collected over a period of 20 years, showing a wide continuum of phenotypes when tested against the Paris distorters, from high sensitivity to complete resistance (males sire ∼95% to ∼40% female progeny). Analyzing around 13 kb of Y-linked gene sequences in a representative subset of nine Y chromosomes, we identified only three polymorphic sites resulting in three haplotypes. Remarkably, one of the haplotypes is associated with resistance. This haplotype is fixed in all samples from Sub-Saharan Africa, the region of origin of the drivers. Exceptionally, with the spread of the drivers in Egypt and Morocco, we were able to record the replacement of the sensitive lineage by the resistant haplotype in real time, within only a few years. In addition, we performed in situ hybridization, using satellite DNA probes, on a subset of 21 Y chromosomes from six locations. In contrast to the low molecular polymorphism, this revealed extensive structural variation suggestive of rapid evolution, either neutral or adaptive. Moreover, our results show that intragenomic conflicts can drive astonishingly rapid replacement of Y chromosomes and suggest that the emergence of Paris segregation distorters in East Africa occurred less than half a century ago.

Abstract

International audience; Azo dyes are widely used in industries and their release in the environment contributes to the pollution of effluents. The authors aim to develop a new eco-friendly water treatment method for the degradation of azo dyes based on in situ magnetic separation and immobilisation of bacterial cells. The immobilisation was achieved using superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles and offers the possibility of reusing bacteria by magnetic separation for several degradation cycles. The iron–oxide nanoparticles were synthesised by reverse co-precipitation. The Gram-positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis were immobilised using iron–oxide nanoparticles by adsorption and then separated with an external magnetic field. Transmission electron microscopy observation showed that the particles' diameter was ∼20 nm with a narrow size distribution. Moreover, the iron–oxide nanoparticles were adsorbed onto the surface in order to coat the cells. B. subtilis has proved its ability to decolorise and degrade several azo dyes at different values of pH, with the highest decolorisation rate for Congo red. Furthermore, immobilised cells have a degradation activity similar to that of free cells. The system provided a degradation rate up to 80% and could be reused for seven batch cycles.

Abstract

Early detection of viruses by the innate immune system is crucial for host defense. The NLRP3 inflammasome, through activation of caspase-1, promotes the maturation of IL-1β and IL-18, which are critical for antiviral immunity and inflammatory response. However, the mechanism by which viruses activate this inflammasome is still debated. Here, we report that the replication of cytopathogenic RNA viruses such as vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) or encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) induced a lytic cell death leading to potassium efflux, the common trigger of NLRP3 inflammasome activation. This lytic cell death was not prevented by a chemical or genetic inhibition of apoptosis, pyroptosis, or necroptosis but required the viral replication. Hence, the viruses that stimulated type I IFNs production after their sensing did not activate NLRP3 inflammasome due to an inhibition of their replication. In contrast, NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by RNA virus infection was stimulated in IFNAR-deficient or MAVS-deficient cells consequently to an increased viral replication and ensuing lytic cell death. Therefore, in a context of inefficient IFN response, viral replication-induced lytic cell death activates of the NLRP3 inflammasome to fight against infection.

Deux modèles de la déformation sont utilisés : le modèle de von Kàrmàn et un modèle de von Kàrmàn Amélioré. Les équations non linéaires obtenues sont résolues par la Méthode Asymptotique Numérique (MAN) en utilisant l’élément fini DKT18 dans la discrétisation en espace. Une comparaison entre les résultats obtenus par la MAN et ceux du code industriel Abaqus est présentée.

Herein, we report the fabrication of a clay-based ceramic membrane. The corresponding support was prepared by a solid-state method using a clay/banana peels (BP, natural porogen) mixture followed by sintering for 2 h at 1100 °C, and the raw materials were characterized by a range of instrumental characterization techniques. In particular, the influence of BP content on the support properties such as porosity and mechanical strength was examined, and an increase in BP content from 5 to 20 wt% was shown to result in increased support porosity and decreased mechanical strength. International audience; In the present work, we propose a numerical analysis of instability and bifurcations for geometrically nonlinear elasticity problems. These latter are solved by using the Asymptotic Numerical Method (ANM) associated with the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS). To compute bifurcation points and to determine the critical loads, we propose three techniques. The first one is based on a geometrical indicator obtained by analyzing the Taylor series. The second one exploits the properties of the Padé approximants, and the last technique uses an analytical bifurcation indicator. Numerical examples are studied to show the efficiency and the reliability of the proposed algorithms

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate, in large displacement and torsion context, the nonlinear dynamic behavior of thin-walled beams with open cross section subjected to various loadings by high-order implicit solvers. These homotopy transformations consist to modify the nonlinear discretized dynamic problem by introducing an arbitrary invertible pre-conditioner \begin{document}$ [K^\star] $\end{document} and an arbitrary path following parameter. The nonlinear strongly coupled equations of these structures are derived by using a \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} nonlinear dynamic model which accounts for large displacements and large torsion without any assumption on torsion angle amplitude. Coupling complex structural phenomena such that warping, bending-bending, and flexural-torsion are taken into account. Two examples of great practical interest of nonlinear dynamic problems of various thin-walled beams with open section are presented to validate the efficiency and accuracy of high-order implicit solvers. The obtained results show that the proposed homotopy transformations reveal a few number of matrix triangulations. A comparison with Abaqus code is presented.

Abstract

The ferroelectric lead-free Ba(1−x)CaxTi(1−x)(Li1/3Nb2/3)xO3−δ with x = 0.02 and x = 0.07 (BCLNTO2 and BCLNTO7) ceramics were elaborated by a conventional sintering process. The effects of Ca and (Li, Nb) contents in the BTO matrix on the structure, dielectric, ferroelectric and electrocaloric properties were investigated. The refinement of the structure at room temperature showed that both BCLNTO2 and BCLNTO7 ceramics crystallize in the tetragonal system. Ferroelectric and dielectric investigations revealed the presence of three phase transitions similar to the parent phase BTO. Applying the Maxwell relation, the electrocaloric temperature changes were calculated using P–E hysteresis loops adjusted at different temperatures. The electrocaloric responsivity was found ξmax (ΔT/ΔE) = 0.14 K mm/kV at TECmax = 374 and ξmax = 0.12 K mm/kV at TECmax= 302 K for BCLNTO2 and BCLNTO7, respectively.

Abstract

International audience; An efficient synthetic strategy able to modulate the structure of the tetrahydropyridine isoindolone (Valmerin) skeleton was developed. A library of more than 30 novel final structures was generated. Biological activities on CDK5 and GSK3 as well as cellular effects on cancer cell lines were measured for each novel compound. Additionally to support the SAR, a docking study was performed. A potent GSK3/CDK5 dual inhibitor (37, IC50 CDK5/GSK3 35/7 nM) was obtained. Best antiproliferative effects were obtained on lung and prostate cell lines with IC50 = 20 nM

Abstract

International audience; Formal verification plays an important role in the area of embedded systems design and in the verification of critical systems. It can reveal common errors and check complex properties defined by temporal logic formulas. To reduce the time-to-market for embedded systems design and assist Sys-temC designers in the complexity of the verification process of various systems prototypes, we propose a novel approach for generic verification of safety properties for SystemC programs. In that approach, programs models are built uppon an automata based framework such that incomplete interactions are kept, which makes the produced models composable with future programs without any changes except for the set of priorities over interactions. These compositional forms enable to check safety properties for each SystemC program once at design time, without the need for the designers to execute the verification process every time these programs are involved in the creation of new prototypes. We present the verification approach and show its feasibility.

Abstract

Porous ceramics were prepared by a solid state process from a mixture of clay and 20 ​wt% banana peels (BPs). BPs were used as an eco-friendly pore-forming agent. Compacted pellets of the dry mixture were calcined at three sintering temperatures, 900, 1000, and 1100 ​°C, for 2 ​h. The effect of sintering temperature on the ceramic properties, such as apparent porosity and mechanical strength, was examined, and an increase in the sintering temperature from 900 to 1100 ​°C yielded porous ceramics with decreased porosity and increased mechanical strength. To obtain porous ceramics (40.2 ​vol% porosity) with sufficient indirect tensile strength (8 ​MPa), the optimum sintering temperature was determined to be 1100 ​°C.

Abstract

International audience; A study was conducted in order to evaluate the performance and the Economic analysis of three photovoltaic system connected to the grid (5.94 kWp) in Errachidia city in Morocco. Several parameters of the PV systems design were evaluated such as the total energy generated, final yield, reference yield, performance ratio, capacity factor and monthly system efficiency. The economic input of the three systems was determined based on economic return of electricity generation. The highest values in terms of daily final yield (YF = 5.26 h/day), performance ratio (PR = 82 %), capacity factor (CF = 21.93 %), levelized cost of electricity (LCOE = 0.068 €/kWh) and payback time (PB = 12), were recorded by pc-Si solar module. Abstract

International audience; Background: Arboviruses are controlled through insecticide control of their mosquito vector. However, inconsiderate use of insecticides often results in the selection of resistance in treated populations, so that monitoring is required to optimize their usage. Here, Culex pipiens (West Nile and Rift Valley Fever virus vector) specimens were collected from four Moroccan cities. Levels of susceptibility to the organophosphate (OP) insecticide malathion were assessed using World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended bioassays. Individual mosquitoes were tested for the presence of the G119S mutation in the ace-1 gene, the main OP-target resistance mutation.Results: Bioassays showed that mosquitoes from Mohammedia were significantly more resistant to malathion than those from Marrakech. Analyzing the ace-1 genotypes in dead and surviving individuals suggested that other resistance mechanisms may be present in Mohammedia. The ace-1 resistance allele frequencies were relatively moderate (< 0.4). Their analyses in three Moroccan cities (Tangier, Casablanca and Marrakech) however showed disparities between two coexisting Cx. pipiens forms and revealed that the G119S mutation tends to be more frequent in urban than in rural collection sites.Conclusion: These findings provide a reference assessment of OP resistance in Morocco and should help the health authorities to develop informed and sustainable vector control programs. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract

International audience; Background: Control of the mosquito vector Culex pipiens with insecticides is the main way to control arboviruses that the species can transmit such as West Nile virus (WNV) and Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV). However, its efficiency has been hampered by the emergence of insecticide resistance. Little is known about the insecticide-resistance status and underlying resistance mechanisms of field-collected populations of Cx. pipiens in Morocco.Methods : Mosquito adults from Mohammadia city in Morocco were reared from immature stages. The level of their susceptibility to insecticides was assessed using standard WHO bioassay. The two forms of the Cx. pipiens complex and their hybrids were identified by a multiplex PCR. Identified mosquitoes were then tested for the presence of the G119S ace-1 and L1014F kdr mutations using PCR-RFLP and PCR assays, respectively.Results : WHO bioassays indicated that Cx. pipiens was resistant to all tested insecticides: lambda-cyhalothrin (49% mortality), permethrin (63% mortality), DDT (16% mortality), malation (52% mortality) and bendiocarb (39% mortality). The frequency of the 119S allele was almost identical in the pipiens form and hybrids (0.11 and 0.15, respectively) whereas it remained low in the molestus form (0.03). No significant correlation was observed between the G119S allele and the resistance phenotype to two tested insecticides (malathion and bendiocarb). The frequency of the L1014F allele was identical in the pipiens form and hybrids (0.44) whereas it was low in the molestus form (0.36) but no significant difference was detected (χ2 = 1.46, df = 1, P = 0.225). The presence of the L1014F kdr mutation was significantly associated with resistance to three tested insecticides in pipiens form (P = 0.0019, P = 0.0023 and P = 0.023, respectively, to lambda-cyhalothrin, permethrin and DDT) whereas no significant correlation was observed between the L1014F kdr mutation and resistance phenotype in molestus form and hybrids to the three tested insecticides.Conclusion : These findings showed that wild populations of Cx. pipiens have developed resistance against the main insecticide families with different modes of action: organochlorines (DDT), organophosphates (malathion), carbamates (bendiocarb), pyrethroids (lambda-cyhalothrin, permethrin). Therefore, urgent action should be taken to manage the resistance in this species to maintain the effectiveness of arbovirus control.

Abstract

A catalytic oxidative fragmentation of a lignin dimer and polymer extracted from wheat straw was successfully performed under eco-friendly conditions: 10% O2/N2 as the oxidizing agent, water as the solvent (pH ≈ 7), and Co3O4, Fe2O3 and CoFeO mixed oxides as heterogeneous catalysts and at temperatures of T = 150 °C and 200 °C. These catalysts unexpectedly showed tunable selectivity that directly depends on the composition of the selected bimetallic nanoparticles. High selectivity for benzoic acid and alkylbenzene (above 50%) was observed over Co50–Fe50 at 200 °C. Under similar conditions, the conversion of wheat organosolv lignin over Co50–Fe50 at 150 °C for 4 h yielded up to 50 wt% of monomeric species (based on dry lignin) and up to 19% of aromatic molecules with high selectivity to aromatic aldehydes (syringaldehyde and vanillin), up to 60%. An important fraction of water-soluble oligomers, with low molecular weights, was also formed during the catalytic treatment. The oxide nanomaterials were readily separated from the residual lignin during the recyclability test. The yield and the product distribution can be tuned by choosing the oxidation parameters: temperature, reaction time, oxygen partial pressure, solvent and catalyst charges.

Abstract

The depolymerization of polymer lignin model to low molecular weight products was studied in water, at 200 °C under 100 MPa of 10% O2 using cobalt-iron mixed oxides as catalysts. These nanostructured oxides with different Co/Fe ratios were prepared via alginate gelation. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and size exclusion chromatography were used to study the influence of the Fe/Co ratios on the structure and the proprieties of the oxides as well as the morphology, the structure, and the composition of the obtained degraded products. The results showed that the oxides used in this study were versatile catalysts with a high catalytic activity for lignin depolymerization. Furthermore, these oxides demonstrated high yield and high selectivity towards aromatic compounds.

Abstract

International audience; A novel two-step synthesis of trifluoromethylated 3,5-disubstituted pyrazolo[1,5- a ]pyrimidines is reported from 3-aminopyrazoles and ethyl 4,4,4-trifluorobut-2-ynoate. The synthetic route begins with the one-pot synthesis of 7-trifluoromethylated pyrazolo[1,5- a ]pyrimidin-5-ones by condensation of 3-aminopyrazoles with a fluorinated alkyne. The products obtained are used as building blocks to synthesize directly, with excellent yields via C-O bond activation, a library of new fluorinated 3,5-disubstituted pyrazolo[1,5- a ]pyrimidines of biological interest. This operation efficiently allows C-C, C-N and C-S bond formation.

Abstract

International audience; This article presents a method for predicting the power provided by photovoltaic solar panels using feed forward neural network (FFNN) of a photovoltaic installation located in the city of Mohammedia (Morocco). An almost one-year experimental database on solar irradiance, ambient temperature and PV power were used to study the prediction ability of the power produced by artificial neural networks. To verify this model, the coefficient of determination (R2), the normalized mean squared error (nRMSE), the mean absolute error (MAE), and other parameters were used. The results of this model tested on unknown data showed that the model works well, with determination coefficients lying between 0.99 and 0.998 for sunny days, between 0.961 and 0.965 for cloudy days and between 0.88 and 0.93 for rainy days. © 2005 – ongoing JATIT and LLS.

Abstract

Formal verification has become very useful and popular in last decade in area of embedded systems design and in analysis of critical systems. It can reveal common errors like deadlocks, starvation, check system invariants, but also verify more complex properties defined by LTL formulas whose writing may be very error prone for non expert users. To reduce the time-to-market for embedded systems and assist designers in the complexity of verification step at design time, we advocate the pre-development of re-usable behavioral properties for each family of embedded components to be verified. The proposed approach is to pre-define the re-usable properties by specifying them as logics on standard input/output signals and standard data values. Obtaining this re-usable form enables them to be used for every new component in the product line, hence without the need to spend additional time to redo the verification setup every time a new component is used to create a new design. We have successfully pre-defined LTL re-usable properties for widely used industrial embedded components families such as fifos and buses, and have performed generic verification using SPIN tool.

Abstract

International audience; The paper discusses membrane instability phenomena by a Fourier-related double scale approach that was introduced recently. This leads to a reduced-order model that is able to capture the main features of the wrinkles with few degrees of freedom. The paper focuses on the corresponding finite element procedure, its implementation and evaluation and applications to various cases of loading and boundary condition. The finite element model has first been implemented in a home-made code, the nonlinear system being solved by the Asymptotic Numerical Method (ANM), which has advantages of efficiency and reliability for stability analyses. It has also been implemented as a user element in a commercial software to evaluate the effectiveness of the reduction technique. Various loading cases were considered and the numerical tests establish that the reduced model can predict the wrinkling patterns, even when there are few wrinkles. The numerical results highlight the strong influence of a dimensionless parameter for wrinkling initiation.

Abstract

Ternary phosphate based glasses with the general formula (50− x /2)Na 2 O– x MgO–(50− x /2)P 2 O 5 (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 42.8 mol%), where the O / P ratio was varied from 3 to 3.75, have been prepared using a conventional melt quenching technique. Samples were investigated by means of density measurements, Fourier-transformed infrared (FTIR), Raman and 31 P solid state magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS-NMR) spectroscopies, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP/AES) analysis and calorimetric dissolution. The depolymerization of metaphosphate chains are described by the decrease of Q 2 tetrahedral sites allowing the formation of pyrophosphate groups ( Q 1 ) revealed by spectroscopic investigations. As a result, the increase of density and glass transition temperature when x rises. Calorimetric study shows that the dissolution phenomenon is endothermic for a lower MgO content and becomes exothermic when magnesium oxide is gradually incorporated, suggesting the disruption of phosphate chains with increasing O / P ratio.

International audience; This paper presents a continuation algorithm based on the Asymptotic Numerical Method (ANM) to study instability phenomena of large torsion of thin-walled open sections beams under various external loadings. The proposed algorithm connects perturbation techniques with a discretization principle and a continuation method without the use of a correction process. In the model, the equilibrium and material constitutive equations are established without any assumption on torsion angle amplitude. In presence of eccentric loads and large torsion context, the right hand side of the equilibrium equations is highly nonlinear and contributes to the tangent stiffness matrix. A 3D beam element having two nodes with seven degrees of freedom is considered in mesh process. Several numerical examples from buckling of thin-walled open sections beams are analyzed to assess the efficiency and the reliability of the method. Comparisons are made with known commercial software. The proposed ANM algorithm is more reliable and less time consuming than other iterative classical methods.

Abstract

International audience; BackgroundCutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a vector-borne parasitic disease caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania. In Morocco, CL is a public health problem mainly caused by Leishmania major and Leishmania tropica, which are responsible for zoonotic and anthroponotic CL, respectively. Macrophages are the primary cells infected by Leishmania parasites and their capacity to produce nitric oxide (NO) is of critical importance for parasite elimination. To our knowledge, the role of NO on autochthonous infections has never been investigated before. In this study, we evaluated in vitro the capacity of autochthonous primary dermotropic strains of L. major and L. tropica to modulate NO production by J774-macrophages and determine the sensitivity of both species to exogenous NO.MethodsThe infectivity of the J774 cell line was analyzed by optical microscopy. NO production by macrophages was measured by the Griess method. The sensitivity to NO by the two strains was assessed by the MTT assay using NO donors.ResultsOur results show that the percentage of infected macrophages and the average number of parasites per macrophage were similar for L. major and L. tropica strains. While L. tropica significantly inhibited NO production induced by LPS and IFN-γ stimulation in J774 macrophages, L. major did not affect it. However, soluble Leishmania antigens (SLAs) from both autochthonous primary strains significantly inhibited the production of NO by J774-macrophages in a dose-dependent manner. Finally, our results demonstrated that promastigotes and amastigotes from both strains are sensitive to SNAP NO donor in a dose-dependent manner, although L. tropica demonstrated an increased sensitivity.ConclusionsOur results suggest a differential ability of L. major and L. tropica strains to modulate the capacity of macrophages to produce NO. The increased ability of L. tropica to inhibit NO production by macrophages might come as a necessity due to its higher sensitivity to NO donor. Our results provide one explanation for the tendency of L. tropica to cause chronic lesions and may contribute to the different physiopathology of CL in Morocco.

Abstract

International audience; Sepsis causes severe dysregulation of organ functions, via the development of oxidative stress and inflammation. These pathophysiological mechanisms are mimicked in mice injected with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Here, protective properties of argan oil against LPS-induced oxidative stress and inflammation are explored in the murine model. Mice received standard chow, supplemented with argan oil (AO) or olive oil (OO) for 25 days, before septic shock was provoked with a single intraperitoneal injection of LPS, 16 hours prior to animal sacrifice. In addition to a rise in oxidative stress and inflammatory markers, injected LPS also caused hepatotoxicity, accompanied by hyperglycemia, hypercholesterolemia and hyperuremia. These LPS-associated toxic effects were blunted by AO pretreatment, as corroborated by normal plasma parameters and cell stress markers (glutathione: GSH) and antioxidant enzymology (catalase, CAT; superoxide dismutase, SOD and glutathione peroxidase, GPx). Hematoxylin–eosin staining revealed that AO can protect against acute liver injury, maintaining a normal status, which is pointed out by absent or reduced LPS-induced hepatic damage markers (i.e., alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST)). Our work also indicated that AO displayed anti-inflammatory activity, due to down-regulations of genes encoding pro-inflammatory cytokines Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) and in up-regulations of the expression of anti-inflammatory genes encoding Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10). OO provided animals with similar, though less extensive, protective changes. Collectively our work adds compelling evidence to the protective mechanisms of AO against LPS-induced liver injury and hence therapeutic potentialities, in regard to the management of human sepsis. Activations of IL-4/Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors (IL-4/PPARs) signaling and, under LPS, an anti-inflammatory IL-10/Liver X Receptor (IL-10/LXR) route, obviously indicated the high potency and plasticity of the anti-inflammatory properties of argan oil.
