The past few years have provided important insights into the genetic architecture of systemic autoimmunity through aggregation of findings from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and whole-exome or whole-genome sequencing studies. In the prototypic systemic autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), monogenic disease accounts for a small fraction of cases but has been instrumental in the elucidation of disease mechanisms. Defects in the clearance or digestion of extracellular or intracellular DNA or RNA lead to increased sensing of nucleic acids, which can break B cell tolerance and induce the production of type I interferons leading to tissue damage. Current data suggest that multiple GWAS SLE risk alleles act in concert with rare functional variants to promote SLE development. Moreover, introduction of orthologous variant alleles into mice has revealed that pathogenic X-linked dominant and recessive SLE can be caused by novel variants in TLR7 and SAT1, respectively. Such bespoke models of disease help to unravel pathogenic pathways and can be used to test targeted therapies. Cell type-specific expression data revealed that most GWAS SLE risk genes are highly expressed in age-associated B cells (ABCs), which supports the view that ABCs produce lupus autoantibodies and contribute to end-organ damage by persisting in inflamed tissues, including the kidneys. ABCs have thus emerged as key targets of promising precision therapeutics. This Review examines insights from genetic studies of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), including observations from reports of monogenic SLE, as well as the role of common and rare variants. The authors also discuss age-associated B cells, as the integration of genetic, epigenetic and transcriptomic data suggests a key role for these cells in SLE. Key points: Monogenic systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) commonly results from defects in degradation or increased sensing of nucleic acids and have led to the development of in vivo models of disease and mechanistic exploration of pathogenesis. The study of high frequency and variably penetrant common variants must be integrated with the study of low frequency, highly penetrant rare, ultra-rare and novel variants to clarify the genetic contribution to disease. Common variants identified through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) highlight a role for complement, immune complex handling, endosomal Toll-like receptors, type I interferon signalling, B cell tolerance and B cell receptor signalling pathways in SLE. The use of online transcriptomic databases to integrate GWAS data highlighted an increased expression of SLE-associated genes in age-associated B cells (ABCs). ABCs are expanded peripherally in patients with SLE, especially in those with lupus nephritis, and in the kidney during episodes of lupus nephritis. Therapeutic regimens that target CD19+ B cells are highly effective at depletion of ABCs, which express high levels of CD19, and had a promising effect in a small study of patients with refractory SLE. Metal halide perovskite have shown great potential for applications in photovoltaics, light‐emitting diodes and photon detectors, mainly owing to their superb optoelectronic properties, low‐cost raw materials and facile fabrication process. Although, polycrystalline perovskite thin‐films have been actively investigated for preparing various optoelectronic devices, the presence of detrimental defects at grain boundaries, serious ion migration and limited stability unfortunately hinder their device performance and practical application. As a contrast, perovskite single crystals (SCs) exhibit no grain boundaries, much lower trap density and much improved stability, hence providing a more attractive choice for not only optoelectronic device applications but also fundamental research. In this review, recent progress in the growth methods of perovskite SCs is summarized, followed by giving a detailed introduction of the intrinsic properties of perovskite SCs including optical properties, defects, charge carrier dynamics, ion migration and stability. On these base, the applications of perovskite SCs in various optoelectronic devices like solar cells, photodetectors, and radiation detectors are discussed, where the relationship between the composition, device architecture and device performance is highlighted. Finally, a tentative discussion on the current challenges and future opportunities in the development of perovskite SCs and optoelectronic devices is presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The practical application of lithium‐sulfur (Li−S) batteries is greatly hindered by the shuttle effect of dissolved polysulfides in the sulfur cathode and the severe dendritic growth in the lithium anode. Adopting one type of effective host with dual‐functions including both inhibiting polysulfide dissolution and regulating Li plating/stripping, is recently an emerging research highlight in Li−S battery. This review focuses on such dual‐functional hosts and systematically summarizes the recent research progress and application scenarios. Firstly, this review briefly describes the stubborn issues in Li−S battery operations and the sophisticated counter measurements over the challenges by dual‐functional behaviors. Then, the latest advances on dual‐functional hosts for both cathode and anode in Li−S full cells are catalogued as species, including metal chalcogenides, metal carbides, metal nitrides, heterostuctures, and the possible mechanisms during the process. Besides, we also outlined the theoretical calculation tools for the dual‐functional host based on the first principles. Objective: This study aims to characterize changes in serum lipid levels throughout twin pregnancies and explore the relationship between lipid levels and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypertensive disorders complicating pregnancy (HDCP). Methods: We retrospectively studied 297 twin pregnancies of women who received regular prenatal care and delivered at the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital over a period of two years. Demographic and medical data of the participants were collected by questionnaires and medical records review. Serum lipid levels were measured in the first trimester (6–13 weeks), second trimester (24–28 weeks), and third trimester (34–37 weeks). A multivariate regression model was constructed to examine the association between lipid levels and pregnancy complications. A decision tree was used to explore the relationship between early serum lipid glucose levels and GDM and HDCP in twin pregnancies. Results: Triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels increased significantly from the first trimester to the third trimester, with the exception of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), which decreased in the third trimester in twin pregnancies (p < 0.001). The levels of TC in the GDM and HDCP group were significantly elevated compared to those in the normal group in early pregnancies (p < 0.05, p < 0.05). In the second trimester, TG in the HDCP group was substantially higher than that in the normal group (p = 0.01). In the third trimester, LDL-C and HDL-C levels in the GDM group are significantly lower than that in the normal group (p < 0.05, p < 0.05). After adjusting for confounders, body mass index (BMI) is independently associated with GDM (odds ratio [OR] = 1.129, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.007–1.266) and HDCP(odds ratio [OR] = 1.170, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.031–1.329). The variation amplitude of HDL-C in the third trimester is related to the occurrence of GDM and HDCP(GDM:OR = 0.271, 95%CI: 0.095–0.778; HDCP: OR =0.249, 95% CI: 0.075–0.823). TG and TC levels in DCDA twins were significantly higher than that in MCDA twins in the first trimester(TG: p < 0.05, TC: p < 0.05). In the decision tree model for GDM, fasting blood glucose in the first trimester (FBG), TC, and pre-pregnancy BMI were identified as important nodes, while in the HDCP model, pre-pregnancy BMI, TC, and TG were key nodes. Conclusion: Serum lipid levels in twin pregnancies increase gradually during pregnancy. BMI is independently associated with the occurrence of GDM and HDCP. This study investigates the physical processes involved in picosecond pulse (20-28 ps FWHM) laser ablation of Al 6061, 316L stainless steel, and undoped crystalline Si (〈100〉) over a range of laser wavelength (355 nm and 1064 nm) and fluence (0.1-40 J/cm2). Experimental measurements of material ablation rate show enhanced removal at the 355 nm wavelength, primarily due to laser-plasma interaction (LPI) within the ablative plume that approaches an order of magnitude increase over the measured removal at 1064 nm. A transition in the ablation rate at 355 nm is identified around ∼10 J/cm2 above which the removal efficiency increases by a factor of two to three. Multi-physics radiation hydrodynamic simulations, considering LPI effects and utilizing a novel mixed-phase equation of state model, show that the transition in ablation efficiency is due to the onset of melt ejection through cavitation, where laser-driven shock heating sets the depth of melt penetration and the ensuing release wave from the ablation surface drives cavitation through the imposition of tensile strain within the melt. High-speed pump-probe imaging of the ejecta and ejecta collection studies, as well as scanning electron microscopy of the ablation craters, support the proposed cavitation mechanism in the higher fluence range. A dual-enzyme cascade catalytic system (Cu-rGO-Fe3O4-GA-CEL-PEI-GOD) was prepared by co-immobilizing cellulase (CEL) and glucose oxidase (GOD) on a nanocomposite (Cu-rGO-Fe3O4) to efficiently catalyze the conversion of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) to gluconic acid. A layer-by-layer strategy was used by adding polyethyleneimine (PEI) to allow the upper enzyme layer to attach to the lower neighboring layer, increasing the loading capacity of the support. The loading capability of CEL and GOD on Cu-rGO-Fe3O4-GA-CEL-PEI-GOD were 55.034 mg g−1 and 12.4 mg g−1, respectively. The specific activity of CEL on Cu-rGO-Fe3O4-GA-CEL was 74.3 U·g−1, and that of immobilized CEL after cross-linking PEI was 25.45 U·g−1, which could retain 34.253% of the enzyme activity. The specific activity of GOD on Cu-rGO-Fe3O4-GA-CEL-PEI-GOD was 30.9 U·g−1. The carrier Cu-rGO-Fe3O4 has peroxidase-like activity, which can timely remove harmful H2O2 to the enzyme, thereby improving the yield of gluconic acid and the stability of biocatalysts. The yield of gluconic acid with Cu-rGO-Fe3O4-GA-CEL-PEI-GOD reached 96.04% within 2 h, higher than the control systems for comparison. In addition, the Cu-rGO-Fe3O4-GA-CEL-PEI-GOD maintained 82.61% of catalytic activity even after undergoing seven cycles of reaction. The dual-enzyme catalytic systems had shallow temperature and pH optima of 40 °C and 4.5. A new method for the determination of 26 legacy and emerging per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in marine sediment pore water was developed using online solid phase extraction coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The proposed method requires only about 1 mL of pore water samples. Satisfactory recoveries of most target PFASs (83.55–125.30 %) were achieved, with good precision (RSD of 1.09–16.53 %), linearity (R 2 ≥ 0.990), and sensitivity (MDLs: 0.05 ng/L–5.00 ng/L for most PFASs). Subsequently, the method was applied to determine PFASs in the sediment pore water of five mariculture bays in the Bohai and Yellow Seas of China for the first time. Fifteen PFASs were detected with total concentrations ranging from 150.23 ng/L to 1838.48 ng/L (mean = 636.80 ng/L). The ∑PFASs and PFOA concentrations in sediment pore water were remarkably higher than those in surface seawater (tens of ng/L), indicating that the potential toxic effect of PFASs on benthic organisms may be underestimated. PFPeA was mainly distributed in pore water, and the partition of PFHpA (50.99 %) and PFOA (49.01 %) was almost equal in the solid and liquid phases. The proportions of all other PFASs partitioned in marine sediments were significantly higher than those in pore water. Mushroom-forming fungi comprise diverse species that develop complex multicellular structures. In cultivated species, both ecological adaptation and artificial selection have driven genome evolution. However, little is known about the connections among genotype, phenotype and adaptation in mushroom-forming fungi. This study aimed to (1) uncover the population structure and demographic history of Lentinula edodes , (2) dissect the genetic basis of adaptive evolution in L. edodes , and (3) determine if genes related to fruiting body development are involved in adaptive evolution. We analyzed genomes and fruiting body-related traits (FBRTs) in 133 L. edodes strains and conducted RNA-seq analysis of fruiting body development in the YS69 strain. Combined methods of genomic scan for divergence, genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and RNA-seq were used to dissect the genetic basis of adaptive evolution. We detected three distinct subgroups of L. edodes via single nucleotide polymorphisms, which showed robust phenotypic and temperature response differentiation and correlation with geographical distribution. Demographic history inference suggests that the subgroups diverged 36,871 generations ago. Moreover, L. edodes cultivars in China may have originated from the vicinity of Northeast China. A total of 942 genes were found to be related to genetic divergence by genomic scan, and 719 genes were identified to be candidates underlying FBRTs by GWAS. Integrating results of genomic scan and GWAS, 80 genes were detected to be related to phenotypic differentiation. A total of 364 genes related to fruiting body development were involved in genetic divergence and phenotypic differentiation. Adaptation to the local environment, especially temperature, triggered genetic divergence and phenotypic differentiation of L. edodes. A general model for genetic divergence and phenotypic differentiation during adaptive evolution in L. edodes , which involves in signal perception and transduction, transcriptional regulation, and fruiting body morphogenesis, was also integrated here. The shortage of natural aggregate (NA) and a large amount of construction waste generation bring opportunities for the application of recycled aggregate (RA). To investigate the mechanical properties and permeability of Recycled Aggregate Pervious Concrete (RAPC), this study tested the compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, porosity, permeability coefficient, and water retention of RAPC with different RA contents (0, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) and analyzed the changes of these parameters with RA content. Among them, two methods were used for the calculation of porosity. The results showed that the porosity, permeability, and water retention of RAPC increased with the increase in RA content, but the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and uniaxial tensile strength decreased. According to the demand of pavement engineering, RAPC should have good water permeability while meeting the strength requirements, so the optimal RA content is 50%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pyroptosis signifies a significant form of programmed neuronal demise subsequent to ischemic stroke. In our prior investigations, we demonstrated that the Elabela (ELA)–Apelin receptor (APJ) axis alleviated neuronal death by improving collateral circulation and mitigating ferroptosis in a murine model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). However, the connection between ELA and neuronal pyroptosis remains further elucidation. Here, we observed an upregulation of ELA and APJ expression in both murine brain specimens and cultured HT-22 hippocampal neurons exposed to experimental ischemic stroke. ELA administration markedly diminished the infarct size in comparison to controls. ELA treatment ameliorated neurological deficits and anxiety-like symptoms in mice with stroke, concurrently inhibiting pyroptosis and mitochondria fission in neurons. Conversely, ELA knockdown yielded the opposite effects. Utilizing RNA-sequencing analysis, we identified a candidate for pyroptosis priming, Z -DNA-binding protein 1 (ZBP1), which was suppressed in ELA-treated HT-22 neurons during oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R). Subsequent co-immunoprecipitation analyses demonstrated the binding between APJ and ZBP1. Specifically, APJ suppressed ZBP1 to inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome activation and dynamin-related protein 1-mediated mitochondrial fission in neurons. In summary, our findings suggest that ELA functions as a stroke-induced signal limiting neuronal pyroptosis and mitochondrial fission via APJ/ZBP1 signaling, thereby underscoring ELA as a potential therapeutic target for ischemic stroke treatment. • ELA and APJ were elevated in neurons following ischemic stroke. • ELA-32 delivery alleviated ischemic brain injury and anxiety-like behavior after MCAO. • ELA-APJ signaling mitigated GSDMD-mediated neuronal pyroptosis and mitochondrial fission in ischemic stroke. • APJ interacted with ZBP1 to inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome activation and Drp 1 mitochondrial translocation in neurons post stroke. Fruiting body development in macrofungi is an intensive research subject. In this study, high-quality genomes were assembled for two sexually compatible monokaryons from a heterokaryotic Lentinula edodes strain WX1, and variations in L. edodes genomes were analyzed. Specifically, differential gene expression and allele-specific expression (ASE) were analyzed using the two monokaryotic genomes and transcriptome data from four different stages of fruiting body development in WX1. Results revealed that after aeration, mycelia sensed cell wall stress, pheromones, and a decrease in CO 2 concentration, leading to up-regulated expression in genes related to cell adhesion, cell wall remodeling, proteolysis, and lipid metabolism, which may promote primordium differentiation. Aquaporin genes and those related to proteolysis, mitosis, lipid, and carbohydrate metabolism may play important roles in primordium development, while genes related to tissue differentiation and sexual reproduction were active in fruiting body. Several essential genes for fruiting body development were allele-specifically expressed and the two nuclear types could synergistically regulate fruiting body development by dominantly expressing genes with different functions. ASE was probably induced by long terminal repeat-retrotransposons. Thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPO-RAs) have a role in second-line immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) treatment, binding to and activating thrombopoietin receptors on megakaryocyte membranes in the bone marrow. This promotes megakaryocyte maturation and increases platelet production. Despite a 2-6% incidence of thrombotic events during TPO-RA treatment, it remains uncertain whether TPO-RAs elevate thrombosis rates. A comprehensive search of electronic databases was conducted using the relevant search criteria. To assess the risk of bias, the included studies were assessed using the revised Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment Tool 2.0, and a meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4.1. A total of 1,698 patients with ITP were included from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). There were 26 thromboembolic events in the TPO-RAs group and 4 in the control group. However, there was no significant difference in the incidence of thrombotic events between the two groups [odds ratio (OR)=1.76, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.78-4.00, P=0.18], even if the duration of treatment was >12 weeks (OR=2.46, 95% CI: 0.81-7.43, P=0.11). Subgroup analysis showed that none of the four drugs significantly increased the incidence of thrombotic events (romiplostim: OR=0.92, 95% CI: 0.14-6.13, P=0.93; eltrombopag: OR=2.32, 95% CI: 0.64-8.47, P=0.20; avatrombopag: OR=4.15, 95% CI: 0.20-85.23, P=0.36; and hetrombopag: OR=0.76, 95% CI: 0.03-18.76, P=0.87). There was also no significant difference in the results of the double-blinded placebo-controlled RCTs (OR=1.21, 95% CI: 0.41-3.58, P=0.73). Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is one of the most effective means for landslide monitoring. At present, most studies on GNSS-based landslide monitoring focus on the long-term landslide analysis, while short-term landslide displacement is not clear. The purpose of this article is to explore a short-term displacement detection method based on GNSS kinematic positioning for landslide monitoring. The significance and feasibility of short-term landslide monitoring are presented, and a short-term displacement detection method based on GNSS kinematic positioning time series segmentation is proposed. The coordinate time series is reconstructed by the Daubechies wavelet to extract the abrupt components. The detection window is formed by the current epoch coordinates and the previous epochs’ coordinates and segmented according to the segmentation index. The segmentation point obtained by segmenting the detection window is regarded as a possible change point (PCP), and a test is conducted to determine whether the segmentation point is a change point (CP). Simulation and field experiments were carried out to verify the proposed method. The results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the method for short-term landslide change detection. The influence of the detection window size and segmentation index on the proposed method is discussed, and suggestions for the selection of detection window size as well as segmentation index are given. Two mononuclear Dy(III) compounds and one heteronuclear Dy(III)–K(I) compound, [Dy(tmpd)3(4,4′-dmpy)] (1), [KDy2(tmpd)8]·C5H6N (2) and [Dy(tmpd)3(dppz)] (3) (4,4′-dmpy = 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridyl, tmpd = 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(4-methylphenyl)butane-1,3-dione, and dppz = dipyrido[3,2-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine), were synthesized by changing the organic bases and auxiliary ligands. The coordination environments of compounds 1 and 3 are different DyN2O6 configurations resulting from steric effects of different auxiliary ligands, while 2 has KF6O6 and DyO8 coordination environments because of the introduction of an organic base (CH3OK). The Dy(III) ions in compounds 1 and 2 have a triangular dodecahedral (D2d) configuration and square antiprismatic (D4d) configuration, respectively. Compound 3 contains two crystallographically equivalent Dy(III) ions of which the eight-coordinated geometries uniformly behave as distorted square antiprismatic (D4d) configurations. Compound 2 affords a novel Dy(III)–K(I) compound with unusually coordinated fluorine atoms of trifluoromethyl groups of β-diketone ligands. 2 is a centrosymmetric structure in which the central K(I) ion is located at the middle of two Dy(III) ions, resulting in an icosahedral (Ih) configuration. Magnetic investigations demonstrate that 1 and 3 display slow magnetic relaxation behaviors. The effective barriers are 94.91 K in 1 and 82.44 K in 3. The M versus H data exhibit weak butterfly-shaped hysteresis loops at 2 K for 1 and 3. The uniaxial magnetic anisotropies, magnetostructural correlations and relaxation mechanism were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The experimental and theoretical studies indicate that compound 1 exhibits the best magnetic properties among compounds 1–3. The theoretical predictions of quantum tunneling of magnetization time and effective barriers are consistent with the corresponding experimental values. Investigating the spatial distribution characteristics of the interaction between soil salinity and moisture is crucial in revealing moisture–salinity interaction in semi-arid farmland. The sampling of soil was performed on the second (S1), fifth (S2), eighth (S3), eleventh (S4), and fourteenth (S5) days after the erosive rainfall. The multifractal method was used to analyze spatial distribution parameters of soil moisture and salinity under the different stages. The findings showed that the soil moisture content decreased from 22.44% to 12.73%, while the salinity increased from 0.71 to 1.18 g kg–1 after the rainfall. As the amount of moisture in the soil decreased, the variability in the distribution of moisture initially increased from S1 to S3 and then decreased, while the salinity content also decreased. The spatial distribution of soil moisture and salinity content showed a strong correlation at S3 to S4 (with the relative water content of soil ranging from 0.52 to 0.75), indicating a significant coupling effect in these stages. However, the distribution of soil salinity was not uniform under high moisture content conditions (S1 to S2), as it was leached unevenly by rainfall, and under low moisture content conditions (S5), it precipitated, resulting in a low correlation between the spatial distribution of soil moisture and salinity content. This research has provided insight into the coupling dynamics of soil moisture and salinity content, revealing the mechanisms governing their spatial distribution in dryland agricultural regions. Aim: This study adopted a three‐wave random intercept cross‐lagged panel model to explore the longitudinal reciprocal relationships between (a) the teacher–student relationship (TSR) quality and (b) the parent–child relationship (PCR) quality and positive affect among Chinese primary school students. Samples: Two primary school student samples, including 3505 and 2505 students, were tracked with their perceived relationship quality with math teachers and parents and their positive affect levels in mathematics learning over three academic years. Results: The results demonstrated that more closeness with parents could significantly predict students' subsequent higher level of positive affect in mathematics learning. However, more closeness with their math teachers did not show significant prediction. Meanwhile, more conflict with math teachers and parents could significantly predict their subsequent lower degree of perceived positive affect in mathematics learning. That is, a reciprocal association lines in the PCR quality and positive affect, whereas only a unidirectional association exists between the TSR and positive affect. The predictions of the experienced positive affect on their perceived interpersonal relationships with math teachers and parents were stronger than those in the reverse association. Conclusions: This study identifies that while the effects of closeness with math teachers and parents on positive affect in students' math learning differ, conflict with math teachers and parents indeed harms students' experienced positive affect in math learning. Despite the advances made in the management of pregnancies in women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), the rate of adverse pregnancy outcomes is still higher than that in the general population. In the last few years, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) were proven to be detrimental in both autoimmune diseases and placental injury. We investigated whether NETs could be detected in the placentas of pregnant individuals with SLE and explored the relationship between NETs and decidual natural killer cells (dNKs), which comprise the majority of immune cells at the maternal–fetal interface, using clinical samples and animal models. In this study, we found that the infiltration of NETs and dNKs, especially CD56+CD16+ NK cells, was significantly increased in pregnant individuals with SLE with placental insufficiency. In the murine models of SLE, the number of dNKs was significantly decreased due to the decreased formation of NETs affected by Ly6G. Moreover, the histopathological placental injury was reduced, with a remarkable increase in fetal birth weight. This study shows that NETs may contribute to immunological disorder in the placenta and the pathological changes in pregnancies with SLE, which provides a research basis for further explorations of the mechanism of SLE in placental impairment. Chicken embryo development is a dynamic process. However, no detailed information is available about the protein abundance changes associated with the lipid mechanism and antioxidant enzyme activity during the egg embryo development. Thus, in the present study, an TMT-based proteomic approach was used to quantify protein abundance changes at different stages of chicken embryonic development. A total of 289 significantly differentially abundant hepatic proteins were quantified, of which 180 were upregulated and 109 were downregulated in the comparison of Day 20 with Day 12 in chicken embryos. Pathway analysis showed that metabolic pathways were the most highly enriched pathways, followed by arachidonic acid metabolism and steroid biosynthesis. Integration of proteomic-based studies profiling of three incubation stages revealed that the two compare groups (Day 12 vs Day 20 and Day 16 vs Day 20) shared some key differentially abundant proteins (DAPs), including LBFABP, FABP5, CYP4V2, PDCD4, LAL, APOA1, APOA4, SAA, FABP2, ACBSG2, FABP2, CYP51A1, and FBXO9. The STRING database and GO analysis results showed that there was close connectivity between APOA4, LBFABP, SERPINC1, APOA1, FGB, FGA, ANGPTL3 and these proteins were involved in the oxidation-reduction process, lipid transport, iron ion, heme, and lipid binding. Importantly, APOA4, FABP2, and CYP51A1 might be key factors to control fat deposition and antioxidant enzyme activity during chicken embryonic development. These findings will facilitate a better understanding of antioxidant and lipid mechanisms in chicken embryo and these DAPs can be further investigated as candidate markers to predict lipid deposition and the activity of antioxidant enzymes. Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) has gained prominence as a deformation monitoring technology in various fields such as bridges and tunnels. This paper offers a comprehensive overview of TLS-based deformation monitoring, covering measurement principles, stochastic models, registration, change detection, and practical applications. We systematically classify, detail, and compare methods for change detection, registration, and georeferencing, shedding light on their strengths, weaknesses, and applicability. The paper also provides an extensive comparison of deformation detection techniques for structures like bridges and tunnels, as well as ground deformation in landslides and unstable rock masses. Challenges related to achieving high-precision, reliable, and efficient deformation monitoring are discussed, and avenues for future research are outlined. Emphasis is placed on the importance of measurement planning to ensure data accuracy and support informed decision-making, particularly for large or spatially constrained structures. Myogenesis is a crucial process governing skeletal muscle development and homeostasis. Lead (Pb) exposure impaired the development and the health of bones, which slows the growth of children. However, it is far from clear what exactly the effects of Pb on skeletal muscle development are. In this study, C2C12 cells are commonly used as an in vitro model of muscle regeneration due to their ability to transition from a proliferative phase into differentiated myofibers. The dose of 1, 5, and 10 μM Pb were adopted to study the toxicity of Pb on C2C12 proliferation and differentiation. First, the effects of Pb on cell viability were detected and the results demonstrated that 5 μM and 10 μM Pb exposure decreased cell viability, while 1 μM Pb exposure has no obvious effects on cell viability. Then, 1–10 μM Pb exposure seriously reduced the C2C12 myoblasts differentiation, with the decrease of myogenic differentiation marker genes expression, including Muscle creatine kinase (MCK), Myosin Heavy Chain 4 (MYH4), Myogenin (MYOG), Myogenic Differentiation (MYOD). What's more, it was found that the epigenetic modifier histone deacetylase-2 (HDAC2) was upregulated after Pb exposure on C2C12 myoblasts. Further studies conclusively showed knockdown of HDAC2 ameliorated Pb-damaged C2C12 myoblasts differentiation, indicating HDAC2 plays a vital role in the Pb-induced C2C12 myoblasts differentiation deficits. Solvent responsive magnets comprise a class of molecule-based materials where lattice solvent driven structural transformation leads to the switching of magnetic properties. Herein, we present a special type of magnet where single-crystal to single-crystal (SCSC) transformations within mononuclear DyIII compounds result in the switching of DyIII single-molecule magnets (SMMs). This structural transformation involves lattice solvents which leads to significant changes in the color and magnetic properties. Additionally, the relaxation dynamics of mononuclear DyIII compounds are perceptibly fine-tuned by the modification of β-diketonate ligands. The uniaxial magnetic anisotropies, magneto-structural correlations and the relaxation mechanism were investigated by magnetic studies and ab initio calculations. These experimental and theoretical studies indicate that compound 2 exhibits the best magnetic properties in compounds 1–4. The experimental observation is supported by the theoretical prediction of QTM time (τ ZeeQTM) as theτ ZeeQTM of 2 is remarkably longer than those of the other three compounds by an order of magnitude. This means that, compared with 1, 3, and 4, the magnetic relaxation of 2 is significantly slower. Meanwhile, 2 has the largest value of axial ESP (the axial electrostatic potential), which supports the smallest gXY value in these compounds, resulting in better SMM properties. Background: The number of studies using third-generation sequencing utilising Pacific Biosciences (PacBio) and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) is rapidly increasing in many different research areas. Among them, plant full-length single-molecule transcriptome studies have mostly used PacBio sequencing, whereas ONT is rarely used. Therefore, in this study, we examined ONT RNA sequencing methods in plants. We performed a detailed evaluation of reads from PacBio, Nanopore direct cDNA (ONT Dc), and Nanopore PCR cDNA (ONT Pc) sequencing including characteristics of raw data and identification of transcripts. In addition, matched Illumina data were generated for comparison. Results: ONT Pc showed overall better raw data quality, whereas PacBio generated longer read lengths. In the transcriptome analysis, PacBio and ONT Pc performed similarly in transcript identification, simple sequence repeat analysis, and long non-coding RNA prediction. PacBio was superior in identifying alternative splicing events, whereas ONT Pc could estimate transcript expression levels. Conclusions: This paper made a comprehensive comparison of PacBio and nanopore-based RNA sequencing of the Arabidopsis transcriptome, the results indicate that ONT Pc is more cost-effective for generating extremely long reads and can characterise the transcriptome as well as quantify transcript expression. By utilizing a flexible fluorinated bis(triazole) ligand 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazole-1-ylmethyl)-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene (Fbtx), a thermally and chemically stable cobalt(II)-containing tungstovanadate-based metal–organic framework (MOF) {[Co3(Fbtx)5(V2W18O62)(H2O)2]·26H2O}n (denoted as CZU-5) was synthesized and structurally characterized. The X-ray structural analysis revealed that CZU-5 features a three-dimensional (3-D) self-penetrated α-polonium cubic structure, which results from a 3-D 4-fold interpenetrated diamondoid [Co(Fbtx)]n network connected by the Wells–Dawson-type tungstovanadate clusters. Unexpectedly, the introduction of vanadium atoms as heteroatoms into the Dawson-type anion in polyoxometalate (POM)-based coordination polymers has not been reported to date. For the first time, the POM-based material was demonstrated to be an effective catalyst for the solvent-free ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone. Based on a multidentate Schiff-base ligand, N,N′-bis(2-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-formylbenzyl)-N,N′-bis-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)ethylenediamine (H2L), two binuclear DyIII compounds, with formulas [Dy2(L)(NO3)3(CH3O)] (1) and [Dy2(L)(NO3)3(CH3CH2O)] (2), have been synthesized under different solvent systems. The DyIII ions in 1 and 2 adopt monocapped square antiprism coordination geometries, while different structural distortions can be observed. The two DyIII ions in 1 and 2 are bridged by two phenoxide atoms of one L2− ligand and one bridged CH3O−/CH3CH2O− oxygen node, leading to an approximate fusiform Dy2O3 core. The different DyIII–Obridged node distances, DyIII–Obridged node–DyIII angles and DyIII⋯DyIII distances can be observed. Magnetic studies reveal that 1 and 2 display slow magnetic relaxation behaviours under a zero direct-current field with the effective energy barriers (Ueff) of 114.17 K and 171.23 K, respectively. Furthermore, compound 2 possesses the highest Ueff in nine-coordinated Dy2 compounds. The M versus H data exhibit weak butterfly-shaped hysteresis loops at 2 K for 2. The rare CH3O−/CH3CH2O−-bridged nine-coordinated binuclear DyIII single-molecule magnets (SMMs) significantly regulate and enhance the Ueff of compounds 1 and 2. To deeply understand their different magnetic behaviours, the magnetic anisotropies and magnetic interactions of 1 and 2 were studied by ab initio calculations. Ruddlesden–Popper perovskite (RPP) materials have attracted great attention due to their superior stability, where the organic spacer dominantly determines the stability and efficiency of RPP solar cells, but research still lacks the systematical understanding of the interplay of binary spacer in the overall mixture range of 0–100% in RPPs on the precursor chemistry, film quality, and carrier behavior. Herein, a series of novel binary spacer RPP films of (PBA1−xBAx)2MA3Pb4I13 (BA = n‐butylammonium, PBA = 4‐phenylbutan‐1‐aminium, and MA = methylammonium) is successfully fabricated to reveal the interplay of binary spacers. The incorporation of 50% BA into the (PBA)2MA3Pb4I13 precursor solution increases the colloidal size and reduces nucleation sites, and therefore forms a very smooth film with much larger crystal grains and a higher degree of crystal preferential orientation, resulting in a significant reduction of trap states. The resulting combination of fast electron transfer and efficient electron extraction facilitates to effectively suppress the trap‐assisted charge recombination and remarkably decrease charge recombination losses. Consequently, the (PBA0.5BA0.5)2MA3Pb4I13 device achieves a champion efficiency of 16.0%, among the highest reported efficiencies for RPP devices. Recently, a mangrove rhizosphere soil-derived fungus strain I Penicillium javanicum i HK1-23 was selected to be chemically investigated because its extracts showed antibacterial activity and had an interesting HPLC-UV profile. Indole diterpenes are a class of fungal natural products possessing an indole nucleus connected to a cyclized diterpene unit, produced by a variety of fungi including I Aspergillus i , I Penicillium i , and I Dichotomomyces i [[12]]. The results (Table 1) demonstrate that most of the isolated indole diterpenes show weak or no activity against these pathogenic bacteria except for emindole SB ( B 4 b ), which displayed selectivity toward I S. aureus i ATCC 33591 (MIC = 6.25 g/mL). Computer electronic equipment will emit unintentional electromagnetic (EM) signals in the working state, especially liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors (desktop and laptop). The monitor emit unintentional EM signals across the Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum making it error-prone, time consuming, and difficult to find the relatively few emanations that obtain hidden information. In this paper, the characteristics of emitted signals which emanations by LCD monitor is verified by analyzing display mechanism, the EM emanations are received and reconstructed by the eavesdropping experiment. According to the principle of LCD, the study shows that refresh rate, horizontal frequency, and pixel frequency are confirmed as key factors to reconstruct image of LCD compromising emanations (CE). In addition, this study promotes the reconstitution quality of LCD CE based on wavelet transform spatial correlation filtering denoising method. • Propose a multi-level maintenance policy considering quality and shocks. • Establish the link between maintenance, shocks, production and defect rate. • Provide a hybrid method to optimize the policy and the cost rate effectively. In this paper, an innovative maintenance strategy is proposed for a system operating exposed to shock environments. The system contains a deteriorating production machine and a buffer inventory. As the number of completed production batches increases, the machine and the associated process state deteriorate. Accordingly, the production defect rate increases, perhaps to an unsatisfactory level. Two types of shocks, both arriving stochastically, also increase the defect rate or cause failures. To restore or improve the machine performance at decision times, one action is determined among four selectable options. Considering the complexity of the problem, a hybrid method is proposed to optimize the maintenance strategy. The hybrid method involves the integration of a modified human decision-making method (MHDM), Monte Carlo simulation and genetic algorithm (GA). MHDM is used to select effective maintenance activities at the decision times by considering relevant system information, e.g., buffer inventory levels, production defects, maintenance effects and previous decisions. Then, based on the established mathematical model, Monte Carlo simulation and GA are combined to adjust the key parameters of MHDM, to optimize the policy and minimize the expected cost rate. High-frequency global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is one of the most effective means for structural health monitoring. At present, most of the GNSS-based structural health monitoring research focuses on the positioning method, however, the unmodeled error caused by the complex monitoring environment and the receiver are always ignored by such technology. Most of the displacement extraction algorithms based on GNSS kinematic positioning are based on the Kalman filter and its variants, and the research on the effective determination of the process noise matrix and the measurement noise matrix is still limited. This paper aims to explore a displacement extraction method with automatic parameter tuning for structural health monitoring. An auto-tuning Kalman smoother has been introduced for extracting vibration displacement from GNSS kinematic positioning. Specifically, we divide the GNSS kinematic positioning results into a training set and a validation set, then use non-convex optimization to obtain the hyperparameters of the Kalman smoother. Finally, we extract the displacement from Kalman smoother with the tuned hyperparameters. Simulation and field experiments were carried out to verify the proposed method. The results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the method for vibration displacement extraction. For real-time kinematic positioning, the displacement extraction accuracy is improved by 9.58% compared to the traditional Kalman smoother; for precise point positioning, the displacement extraction accuracy is improved by 15.36%. The nanomechanical deformations on a broad range of optical material surfaces (single crystals of Al2O3 [sapphire], SiC, Y3Al5O12 [YAG], CaF2, and LiB3O5 [LBO]; a SiO2–Al2O3–P2O5–Li2O glass‐ceramics [Zerodur]; and glasses of SiO2:TiO2 [ULE], SiO2 [fused silica], and P2O5–Al2O3–K2O–BaO [Phosphate]) near the elastic‐plastic load boundary have been measured by nanoindentation and nanoscratching to mimic the nanoplastic removal caused by a single slurry particle during polishing. Nanoindenation in air was performed to determine the workpiece hardness at various loads using a commercial nanoindenter with a Berkovich tip. Similarly, an atomic force microscope (AFM) with a stiff diamond coated tip (150 nm radius) was used to produce nanoplastic scratches in air and aqueous environments over a range of applied loads (~20‐170 μN). The resulting nanoplastic deformation of the nanoscratches were used to calculate the removal function (i.e., depth per pass) which ranged from 0.18 to 3.6 nm per pass for these materials. A linear correlation between the nanoplastic removal function and the polishing rate (using a fixed polishing process with colloidal silica slurry on a polyurethane pad) of these materials was observed implying that: (a) the polishing mechanism using colloidal silica slurry can be dominated by mechanical rather than chemical interactions; and (b) the nanoplastic removal function, as opposed to interface particle interactions, is the controlling factor for the polishing material removal rate. Furthermore, this correlation is consistent with the Ensemble Hertzian Multi‐Gap (EHMG) microscopic material removal rate model described previously. The nanoplastic removal depth was also found to correlate to the measured nanoindentation hardness (H1) of the optical material, scaling as H1−3.5. Two‐dimensional (2D) finite element analysis simulations of nanoindentation showed a similar nonlinear dependence of plastic deformation with the workpiece material hardness. The findings of this study are used to determine an effective Preston coefficient for the material removal rate expression and enhance the predictive nature of the nanoplastic polishing rate for various materials utilizing their material properties. Abstract The etiology of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), the most common rotational deformity of the spine, is still unclear. Emerging evidence suggests that gut microbiota dysbiosis influences musculoskeletal diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis. However, the alterations of the fecal microbiome in AIS remain unknown. Thus, the current study was conducted to explore the gut microbiota compositions of Chinese AIS patients. Microbiota communities in the feces of 51 AIS patients and 34 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were investigated using 16S rRNA sequencing. Meanwhile, the changes in the plasma proteome were detected using tandem mass tag (TMT) labeling coupled with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The relationship between gut microbiota and AIS clinical characteristics as well as the correlation between gut microbiota and the changes in plasma proteins were analyzed. The structure of the gut microbiota differed between the AIS and healthy groups, however, the richness was similar. The genera Prevotella , Gelria , and Desulfovibrio were enriched in the feces of AIS patients. In contrast, the abundance of Parasutterella , Tyzzerella , and Phascolarctobacterium was decreased in the AIS group. More remarkably, a positive correlation between the abundance of the fecal genera Prevotella and the Cobb angles of the AIS patients was observed. Moreover, the major differential plasma proteins related to AIS were Fibronectin 1 (FN1), voltage-dependent anion channel 1 (VDAC1), Ras homolog family member A (RHOA), and AHNAK nucleoprotein (AHNAK). Additionally, the positive correlations between fecal Prevotella and the expression of host plasma FN1 as well as the negative relationships between fecal Prevotella and the expression of host VDAC1 and AHNAK were confirmed. Elucidating these differences in the gut microbiota will provide a foundation to improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of AIS and to support potential therapeutic options based on modifying the gut microbiota. Thus, in this study, we simulated the expansion of the invasive clonal aquatic plant Eichhornia crassipes from aquatic to terrestrial habitats through two modes of clonal integration. We subjected E. crassipes parent plants and offspring ramets to three levels of natural light in terrestrial habitats: 100%, 60%, and 10%. The stolon connections were either severed or kept intact. Our findings showed that clonal integration had positive effects on plants exposed to shade in the terrestrial habitats and produced negative effects on plants in the aquatic habitats. Overall, clonal integration significantly increased whole-plant growth performance. Parent plants and offspring ramets in the terrestrial environments can enhance their adaptability to shade by increasing the maximum quantum yield of photosystem II and chlorophyll content. Clonal integration can support the expansion of E. crassipes from aquatic into terrestrial habitats with limited light conditions through significantly elevated growth traits. Vanadium dioxide (VO2), with the first-order metal-insulator phase transition at near room temperature, has attracted increasing attention in the past few decades. With rapid electrical switching, the phase transition in VO2 also triggers the colossal property changes in various aspects, such as optical properties, magnetic properties, and strain, and, thus, enables a wide range of modern applications. In this review, we present a complete picture of the latest advances of VO2, including the fabrication strategies, property modulation, and advanced applications. This review summarizes several typical fabrication methods of VO2 crystals as well as some common problems and their possible solutions. The strategies for the fabrication of single-crystalline VO2 arrays are also discussed to meet the requirements of the high-performance devices at the macro-scale. This review concerns the typical approaches for the modulation of (metal-insulator transition) MIT and emphasizes on the domain study of VO2 single crystals at the nanoscale. We aim at a clear explanation of the effect of various inhomogeneities on the MIT behavior of VO2 and the importance of the accurate control of MIT at the domain level. After summarizing the preparation and modification of VO2, we focus on the applications of this amazing smart material in various aspects, including strain engineering, optical modulation, electrical switching, and multi-responsive sensing. Three new mixed‐ligand coordination polymers of CuII, namely, [Cu(Fbtx)(L1)(H2O)]n (1), [Cu(Fbtx)0.5(HL2)(H2O)2]n (2), and {[Cu(Fbtx)1.5(HL3)(H2O)]·H2O}n (3) [Fbtx = 2,3,5,6‐tetrafluoro‐1,4‐bis(1,2,4‐triazole‐1‐ylmethyl)benenze, H2L1 = terephthalic acid, H3L2 = trimesic acid, NaH2L3 = 5‐sulfoisophthalic acid monosodium salt], were hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and single‐crystal and powder X‐ray diffraction techniques. All the complexes have a two‐dimensional (2D) coordination layer structure. Of these, 1 displays a planar 44‐sql structure whereas both 2 and 3 are highly undulated 63‐hcb nets. Moreover, their thermal stability and catalytic behaviors in the aerobic oxidation of 4‐methoxybenzyl alcohol were also investigated as well. Abstract Interrill erosion processes typically involve such scientific issues as detachment-limited and transport-limited erosion behaviour. An accurate estimation of the sediment transport capacity ( T c ) by raindrop-impacted overland flow is critical for interrill erosion modelling and for evaluating sediment budgets under erosion-limiting conditions. Simulated rainfall experiments with rainfall intensities from 0.8 to 2.5 mm min−1 over a three-area soil pan with slope gradients from 12.7% to 46.6% were conducted to identify the transport-limited cases and determine T c by raindrop-impacted overland flow within the transport-limited systems of interrill erosion processes. Results indicated that T c increased as a power function of rainfall intensity and slope gradient ( R2 = 0.84, NSE = 0.75), and T c was more sensitive to rainfall intensity than to slope gradient. In terms of R2 and NSE , stream power was the key hydraulic parameter that influenced T c among flow velocity ( R2 = 0.64, NSE = 0.39), shear stress ( R2 = 0.53, NSE = 0.23), stream power ( R2 = 0.76, NSE = 0.52) and unit stream power ( R2 = 0.49, NSE = 0.16). The addition of rainfall physical parameters in response equations of T c in addition to hydraulic parameter, could improve an accuracy of T c modelling. Stream power combined with rainfall kinetic energy can best describe the T c of raindrop-impacted overland flow within the transport-limited system of interrill erosion processes by a power-exponent function ( R2 = 0.90, NSE = 0.72). Rainfall kinetic energy can reduce the Darcy-Weisbach resistance coefficient of raindrop-impacted overland flow and thus benefit sediment transporting. Abstract Syngas (CO/H 2) fermentation provides an alternative method for organics utilization. The hollow-fiber membrane biofilm reactor (HfMBR) offers a potential way to use CO and H 2 effectively. However, studies on syngas utilization by mixed culture fermentation (MCF) in HfMBR were seldom reported. This study is the first to demonstrate and compare the in-situ production of volatile fatty acids via syngas by mesophilic and thermophilic MCF, in which CO and H 2 utilization exceeded 95% and even reached 100%. Acetate (4.22 g/L), butyrate (1.35 g/L), caproate (0.88 g/L), and caprylate (0.52 g/L) were detected at 35 °C, whereas acetate was the main metabolite at 55 °C. The proportion of acetate ranged from 47.5% to 62.7% at 35 °C and exceeded 90% at 55 °C in the batch mode. Notably, the acetate concentration and the production rate could reach 24.6 g/L and 16.4 g/(L.d), respectively, at pH 6.5 in the continuous mode at 55 °C. Thus, thermophilic conditions are preferable for high-purity and high-concentration acetate production from syngas. As revealed by Illumina high-throughput sequencing, Clostridium (41.6%) and Thermoanaerobacterium (92.8%) were the dominant bacteria under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions, respectively. Abstract Residual phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) activity is the main determinant of the metabolic phenotype in phenylketonuria (PKU). The genotypic heterogeneity of PKU, involving >1000 PAH variants and over 2500 different genotypes, makes genotype-based phenotype prediction challenging. While a relationship between PAH variants and the metabolic phenotype is well established, we questioned the importance of PAH expression and residual in vitro activity for the metabolic phenotype. Thirty-four PAH variants (p.F39 L, p.A47V, p.D59Y, p.I65S, p.R68G, p.R68S, p.E76G, p.A104D, p.D143G, p.R155H, p.R176L, p.V190A, p.G218 V, p.R241C, p.R243Q, p.P244L, p.R252W, p.R261Q, p.E280K, p.R297H, p.A300S, p.I306V, p.A309V, p.L311P, p.A313T, p.L348 V, p.V388 M, A403V, p.R408Q, p.R408W, p.R413P, p.D415N, p.Y417H, and p.A434D) were transiently transfected into COS-7 cells, and expression of PAH was investigated. Expression patterns were compared with in vitro PAH activity and allelic phenotype values (APVs). In vitro PAH activity was significantly higher (p <.01) in variants associated with mild hyperphenylalaninemia (PAH activity = 52.1 ± 8.5%; APV = 6.7–10.0) than that in classic PKU variants (PAH activity = 21.1 ± 7.0%; APV = 0–2.7). Matching the terrestrial laser scan point clouds with the unmanned aerial oblique photography point clouds of high-rise irregular buildings can make them complementary. The challenge lies in the different sources and qualities, besides arbitrary angular deviations of the two types of point clouds. We propose a registration method based on point and line features, which automatically recognises the features of these point clouds using normal vectors and 3D-Harris, and solves the registration parameters through rigorous adjustment. The registration model, process and method are introduced. Finally, through the analysis of real case examples, it was found that the registration result of this method was better than the traditional Iterative Closest Point (ICP) in the analysed cases, the proposed registration method not only exhibits good automation but also has the ability to ignore various differences in heterogeneous point clouds, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of registration for such point clouds. Climate change, especially warming temperatures, may increase invasion and modify the ecological impacts of invasive species by enhancing their ability to compete. To test the effects of warming on invasive plants, a mesocosm experiment was conducted to study competition between the invasive plant Egeria densa and the native hygrophyte Sparganium angustifolium under simulated warming conditions in a greenhouse. These two species were grown in monoculture (no competitor control) or mixed culture (competitor control) for two months under different temperature conditions (warming treatment or no-warming treatment). In S. angustifolium, the higher temperatures led to a shorter root length and significantly increased the aboveground traits of ramets, the total biomass, and the RGR (relative growth rate) but had no effect on the aboveground traits of genets. Growth in mixed culture significantly decreased the S. angustifolium ramet height under warmer conditions and significantly reduced the ramet root length, ramet number, genet biomass, root-to-shoot ratio and RGR of S. angustifolium under natural temperature conditions. All the morphological, biomass and growth traits of E. densa except for the root-to-shoot ratio were significantly increased by the warmer temperatures and decreased by growth in mixed culture. The RCI and RII of E. densa in both the no-warming and warmer environments were two and three times greater than those of S. angustifolium, whereas the ACI values for the two species were similar. Thus, S. angustifolium was a better competitor than E. densa under both temperature conditions. These results suggest that although the superior competitive ability of native species can inhibit E. densa growth, the performance of this species will be enhanced under future climate warming in cold regions. Background Hyperphenylalaninemia (HPA) is an inherited metabolic disorder that is caused by a deficiency of phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) or tetrahydrobiopterin. The prevalence of HPA varies widely around the world. Methods A spectrum of HPA candidate genes in 1020 Chinese HPA patients was reported. Sanger sequencing, next generation sequencing (NGS), multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) were applied to precisely molecular diagnose HPA patients. The allelic phenotype values (APV) and genotypic phenotype values (GPV) were calculated in PAH-deficient patients based on a recently developed formula. Results Apart from genetic diagnoses confirmed in 915 HPA patients (89.7%) by Sanger sequencing, pathogenic variants were discovered in another 57 patients (5.6%) through deep detections (NGS, MLPA and qRT-PCR). We identified 196, 42, 10 and 2 variants in PAH , PTS , QDPR and GCH1 , respectively. And a total of 47 novel variants were found in these genes. Through the APV and GPV calculations, it was found that the new GPV system was well correlated with metabolic phenotypes in most PAH-deficient patients. Conclusions More HPA candidate variants were identified using new molecular diagnostic methods. Presented are the solvothermal syntheses, structures, characterizations, and luminescent properties of four novel organic-modified cadmium chloride complexes constructed from CdCl 2 and imidazole (or its derivatives), namely [CdCl 2 (Im) 4 ] ( 1 , Im = imidazole), [CdCl 4 (HAPI) 2 ] ( 2 , API = N-(3-Aminopropyl)-imidazole), [Cd( μ -Cl) 2 (1-Mim) 2 ] ∞ ( 3 , 1-Mim = 1-methyl imidazole) and [CdCl 3 (HAPI)] ∞ ( 4 ). 1 and 2 feature a zero dimensional (0D) mononuclear structure with different mole ratios of Cd: Cl: ligand, while compound 3 and 4 bear infinite chains constructed from different subunits and connection modes. Worthy of note is that 4 represents a new structural type in the family of organic modified cadmium halides. The major obstacle for thermophilic anaerobic digestion (TAD) is the inhibited microorganism activity and process instability during the start-up period. This study proposed a strategy to accelerate and stabilize the thermophilic reactors start-up via adding conductive materials. The results show that methane production rate in conductive materials supplemented (CMS) reactors was almost two times higher than the control reactors. Caloramator sp., a candidate of electroactive bacteria, was significantly enriched in the carbon nano-tube (CNT) supplemented groups (12.89%) as compared to control groups (1.26% only). Together with the doubled abundance of Methanosaeta and Methanosarcina methanogens in CMS groups, it is highly possible Caloramator sp. and Methanosaeta / Methanosarcina have established syntrophic direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET), via adopting conductive materials as electron conduit. Microbial community analysis indicates DIET was likely to be an unstable condition triggered syntrophic process. Many studies reported that it is challenging to apply enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) process at high temperature. Glycogen accumulating organisms (GAOs) could easily gain their dominance over poly-phosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) when the operating temperature was in the range of 25 °C–30 °C. However, a few successful EBPR processes operated at high temperature have been reported recently. This study aimed to have an in-depth understanding on the impact of feeding strategy and carbon source types on EBPR performance in tropical climate. P-removal performance of two EBPR systems was monitored through tracking effluent quality and cyclic studies. The results confirmed that EBPR was successfully obtained and maintained at high temperature with a multi-cycle strategy. More stable performance was observed with acetate as the sole carbon source compared to propionate. Stoichiometric ratios of phosphorus and carbon transformation during both anaerobic and aerobic phases were higher at high temperature than low temperature (20±1 °C) except anaerobic PHA/C ratios within most of the sub-cycles. Furthermore, the fractions of PHA and glycogen in biomass were lower compared with one-cycle pulse feed operation. The microbial community structure was more stable in acetate-fed sequencing batch reactor (C2-SBR) than that in propionate-fed reactor (C3-SBR). Background/Aims: The present study aimed to analyze the mechanisms by which periodic mechanical stress is translated into biochemical signals, and to verify the important role of signaling molecules including phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)-Akt, protein kinase C (PKC), and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in chondrocyte proliferation. The effects of periodic mechanical stress on the mitogenesis of chondrocytes have been studied extensively in recent years. However, the mechanisms underlying the ability of chondrocytes to sense and respond to periodic mechanical stress need further investigation. Methods: Two steps were undertaken in the experiment. In the first step, the cells were pretreated with shRNA targeted to Akt or EGFR or PKCδ or control scrambled shRNA. Moreover, they were pretreated with LY294002, GF109203X, Gö6976, rottlerin, and AG1478. They were maintained under static conditions or periodic mechanical stress for 3 days, 8 h per day, prior to direct cell counting and CCK-8 assay, respectively. In the second step, the cells were pretreated with shRNA targeted to Akt or EGFR or PKCδ or control scrambled shRNA. Moreover, they were pretreated with LY294002, AG1478, and rottlerin. They were maintained under static conditions or periodic mechanical stress for 1 h prior to Western blot analysis. Results: Proliferation was inhibited by pretreatment with PKC or PKCδ inhibitor GF109203X or rottlerin and by short hairpin RNA (shRNA) targeted to PKCδ, but not by PKCα inhibitor Gö6976 in chondrocytes in response to periodic mechanical stress. Meantime, rottlerin and shRNA targeted to PKCδ also attenuated EGFR, Akt, and ERK1/2 activation. Furthermore, inhibiting EGFR activity by AG1478 and shRNA targeted to EGFR abrogated chondrocyte proliferation and phosphorylation levels of Akt and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)1/2 subjected to periodic mechanical stress, while the phosphorylation site of PKCδ was not affected. In addition, pretreatment with the PI3K-Akt-selective inhibitor LY294002 and shRNA targeted to Akt reduced periodic mechanical stress-induced chondrocyte proliferation and phosphorylation of ERK1/2, while the phosphorylation levels of EGFR and PKCδ were not inhibited. Conclusion: These findings suggested that periodic mechanical stress promoted chondrocyte proliferation through PKCδ-EGFR-PI3K-Akt-ERK1/2. They provide a stronger viewpoint for further investigations into chondrocyte mechanobiology under periodic mechanical stress and the ways to improve the quality of tissue-engineered cartilage. In this study, long-term operation (300 days) of sediment microbial fuel cell (SMFC) was conducted to investigate the effect of sulfur oxidation on phosphorus (P) release from sediment. The result described that the released P to the water column of SMFC group was much lower during the whole operated time, suggesting SMFC was an effective approach to inhibit endogenous P release from sediment. FeS in the sediment was decreased in the vicinity of anode and SO 4 2− concentration was accumulated in the pore water from day 160 onward, suggesting the occurrence of FeS oxidation process. At the same time, part of dissolved Fe2+ was upward-diffused and oxidized to Fe(III) oxides, followed by adsorption P, rendering higher BD-P buildup in the surface sediment (612.50 ± 32.25 μg/g). Further, the potential of sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, Tumebacillus (7.31%) and family Desulfobulbaceae (3.06%), were dominant, confirming bio-sulfur oxidation process in the SMFC group. Lentinula edodes is an important candidate for heavy metal mycoremediation. This study explored the molecular mechanism of cadmium (Cd) tolerance differentiation of L. edodes through comparative mRNA and milRNA analyses of two strains, YS45 (Cd sensitive) and YS119 (Cd tolerant). Results showed the emergence of more possible protein aggregates in YS45 than in YS119 under Cd stress. The number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and milRNAs (DEMs) was identified as 2036 and 370 as well as five and three in YS45 and YS119, respectively. Comparison of DEGs and DEMs between the two strains revealed that genes and milRNAs involved in cell wall remodeling, transport, heavy metal chelation, lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, transcription regulation, redox homeostasis, proteolysis, signaling, DNA repair, cell cycle, may play important roles in Cd stress response, and their different expression patterns, especially those associated with proteolysis and carbohydrate metabolism, might lead to Cd tolerance differentiation between the two strains. The function of the α-amylase gene LeAmy in enhancing Cd tolerance in L. edodes was further verified by overexpression. This study has shed light on the molecular mechanism of Cd tolerance differentiation in L. edodes , and laid a foundation for breeding elite strains for heavy metal mycoremediation. Soil detachment by rill flow is a key sub-process of rill erosion on hillslope areas; however, many studies have focused on soil detachment by clear rather than by sediment-laden rill flow and most studies have used the time- and labor-consuming full-factorial design. This study used three experimental design methods, including the full-factorial design, orthogonal design, and Taguchi method for indoor flume experiments to explore the process of soil detachment by sediment-laden rill flow. We analyzed and quantified the effects of the slope, flow discharge, and sediment load on the soil detachment rate by sediment-laden rill flow, and compared the results of the three experimental design methods to evaluate the applicability of the orthogonal design and Taguchi method in indoor flume experiments. The results showed that the flow discharge and slope were positively correlated with the soil detachment rate, while the sediment load was negatively correlated with it. The main effects of slope, flow discharge, and sediment load on the soil detachment rate, which were obtained from the three methods, had the same trends. The contribution rates of the flow discharge, slope, and sediment load were 46.20–47.83, 34.42–40.88, and 7.45–12.87%, respectively. The contribution rates of each factor obtained from the three methods were slightly different, but the overall ranked order was the same. The Taguchi method and the orthogonal design can effectively reduce the number of tests and ensure low relative errors. The prediction of the soil detachment rate from the Taguchi method was closer to the full-factorial design than the orthogonal design. Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO)-based approaches have gained popularity in recent times as a tool for genomic diagnostics of rare diseases. However, these approaches do not make full use of the available information on disease and patient phenotypes. We present a new method called Phen2Disease, which utilizes the bidirectional maximum matching semantic similarity between two phenotype sets of patients and diseases to prioritize diseases and genes. Our comprehensive experiments have been conducted on six real data cohorts with 2051 cases (Cohort 1, n  = 384; Cohort 2, n  = 281; Cohort 3, n  = 185; Cohort 4, n  = 784; Cohort 5, n  = 208; and Cohort 6, n  = 209) and two simulated data cohorts with 1000 cases. The results of the experiments showed that Phen2Disease outperforms the three state-of-the-art methods when only phenotype information and HPO knowledge base are used, particularly in cohorts with fewer average numbers of HPO terms. We also observed that patients with higher information content scores have more specific information, leading to more accurate predictions. Moreover, Phen2Disease provides high interpretability with ranked diseases and patient HPO terms presented. Our method provides a novel approach to utilizing phenotype data for genomic diagnostics of rare diseases, with potential for clinical impact. [Display omitted] • VFAs separation and P recovery from fermented liquid using FCDI system were studied. • The charged P ions was concentrated in the anode chamber. • A 92% of acetate in the fermented liquid was effectively separated. • FCDI was a feasible approach to separate VFAs and recover P from fermented broth. Volatile fatty acids (VFA) extracted from fermented liquids are a viable carbon source to improve the removal of biological nutrients due to a carbon shortage of sewage influent in China. However, nutrients released from the fermented liquid increase the influent nutrients loading, resulting in a lower removal efficiency. In this study, a flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) system was developed to verify the feasibility of VFA separation and simultaneous ammonium and phosphate recovery from synthetic fermented broth. The results showed that 35.87 % of NH 4 +-N (cations) were removed from the influent under the optimal conditions (carbon = 5 wt%, current density (j) = 8.75 A/m2, hydraulic retention time (HRT) = 7.5 min, and pH 4.5). Meanwhile, only 9 % of acetate and 32.4 % of phosphorous (P) were migrated into anodic chamber. The difference removal efficiencies of anions caused by the different charging characteristics in electric field contributed the selective separation of acetate. The removed P was concentrated in the anode and converted into neutral H 3 PO 4 by controlling the pH of the electrolyte below 2. This facilitated P enrichment in the anode compartment during discharge. The long-term operation results showed that 110.78 mg/L of P in the anode chamber and 92 % of acetate in the effluent were obtained with a lower power consumption of 1.89 kWh/kg P. Objective: Diagnosis of lupus nephritis (LN) is a complex process, which usually requires renal biopsy. We aim to establish a machine learning pipeline to help diagnosis of LN. Methods: A cohort of 681 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients without LN and 786 SLE patients with LN was established, and a total of 95 clinical, laboratory data and 17 meteorological indicators were collected. After tenfold cross-validation, the patients were divided into training set and test set. The features selected by collective feature selection method of mutual information (MI) and multisurf were used to construct the models of logistic regression, decision tree, random forest, naive Bayes, support vector machine (SVM), light gradient boosting (LGB), extreme gradient boosting (XGB), and artificial neural network (ANN), the models were compared and verified in post-analysis. Results: Collective feature selection method screens out antistreptolysin (ASO), retinol binding protein (RBP), lupus anticoagulant 1 (LA1), LA2, proteinuria and other features, and the hyperparameter optimized XGB (ROC: AUC = 0.995; PRC: AUC = 1.000, APS = 1.000; balance accuracy: 0.990) has the best performance, followed by LGB (ROC: AUC = 0.992; PRC: AUC = 0.997, APS = 0.977; balance accuracy: 0.957). The worst performance is naive Bayes model (ROC: AUC = 0.799; PRC: AUC = 0.822, APS = 0.823; balance accuracy: 0.693). In the composite feature importance bar plots, ASO, RF, Up/Ucr, and other features play important roles in LN. Conclusion: We developed and validated a new and simple machine learning pathway for diagnosis of LN, especially the XGB model based on ASO, LA1, LA2, proteinuria, and other features screened out by collective feature selection.
