During the first two decades of the 21st century, South American countries have increased their public investments and multilateral integration actions, configuring a South American "new regionalism". Based on this context, this article aims to present a review and critical analysis of the interventions and plans of the Initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America (IIRSA). We based the research on the following methodological steps: documentary study, data systematization from IIRSA's Projects Portfolio, bibliographic review of academic studies, and critical analysis of territory and development conceived and adopted concepts by IIRSA. The article analyzes the contradictions between the principles of socioeconomic, local, and sustainable development declared by IIRSA and the impacts of the implementation of its projects in the territories, providing data on the Infrastructure and Planning Council (COSIPLAN) and IIRSA that can help teaching, research and practical elaboration on the subject. This text aims to contribute to the theoretical debate on the concepts of city and urban, based on the analysis of the material and symbolic relevance of agriculture in the former agglomerations of Caracol, (Maia), Tenochtitlán (Aztec), Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo (Inkas), highlighting their respective archaeological and historiographic evidences and theses. In addition to making considerations about food production systems, the following theoretical and methodological aspects are discussed based on the cases studied: (a) applicability of the concepts of city and urban to the study of pre-colonial societies in America; (b) the role played by the center on promoting agriculture; (c) agriculture as a technology of urbanism towards adversity; (d) relevance of Abya Yala’s native cities study. This research was based on four methodological steps, that included bibliographic review about city and urban space, as well as specific publications on the cases cited. The evidence highlighted in this paper emphasizes the need to decolonize theoretical concepts and recognize urban agriculture as an ancient and current strategy to deal with past and present challenges.

There are many challenges for newly educated educators. In the teaching of humanities, one of the current difficulties is dealing with the excess of information available in digital media, sometimes more "attractive" for children and adolescents. In public education, barriers are more delicate, ranging from an unfavorable home environment to the low repertoire of fundamental content among students. The study of Latin America in Basic Education is directly affected, since few Brazilians know the history and dynamics of the region, and content that is not accessible to most public school students. This article aims to present and analyze the realization of the Knowledge Fair on Latin America, linked to the Department of Geography at UFBA, emphasizing the importance of Education concepts such as autonomy and epistemology of practice for teacher education. From the documentation of the four stages of carrying out the project and the analysis based on concepts of Education and Teaching in Geography, it was possible to highlight the importance of the joint elaboration, between educators and students, of pedagogical practices anchored in interdisciplinarity and in multiple languages, in order to make geographic education about Latin America more adequate to the daily life of the various teaching-learning environments possible.

The involvement of the splanchnic afferent nerves on the induction of anorexia by intraperitoneal administration of amylin is investigated by pretreating rats with capsaicin, a neurotoxin that destroys sensory nerves. Results reveal that amylin exerted its anorexic effects even with the destruction of splanchnic sensory nerves indicating that its effects and those of the calcitonin-gene related peptide are central. Correlation of the results with previous studies indicates that the target of amylin is the area postrema and the nucleus of the tractus solitarius.

The mechanisms that mediate the effects of 2,5-anhydro-D-mannitol (2,5-AM) on hepatocyte adenosine 3',5'-triphosphate (ATP) levels were analyzed in isolated mouse and rat liver cells based on a superfused liver slice method. Analysis of membrane potentials in superfused murine and rodent liver slices indicated the role of 2,5-AM in hyperpolarizing the hepatocyte cell membrane, reducing ATP levels and glucose production. Furthermore, 2,5-AM increased feeding by acting on metabolic sensors located in the hepatoportal area.

ABSTRACT- This manuscript intents to reflect about urbanization, using the theory of production of space and analyzing correlated processes and features as sociospatial segregation, sociospatial fragmentation, place and quotidien. To contribute with academic debate, this work analysed aplicability of those concepts using as spatial cutout Pernambués,a neighborhood of Salvador (BA, BRA), verifying how processes were developt in intra-neighborhood scale. Reviewing events of local history it was possible to evidence singular, particular and universal aspects of its urbanization, making possible the study of Pernambués' contemporary Geography, neighbrhood with more than 64.000 inhabtants that reveals aspects of sociospatial fragmentation, because the difference among places and centrality areas have relation with social, economic, cultural, environmental and historical differences that characterize the totality studied. The research was realized with bibliografic review, documental study, field observations, interviews, surveys, geoprocessing and others methodological resources and made possible critical considerations about concepts and cathegories used by materialistic-historic-dialetic base Geography. The results – expressed on theory, statistics and cartography – are a relevant source for other researches about the neighborhood, and give contributions to other academic works and to local projects.

- Abstract
Spontaneous eating patterns in male, inbred Roman high- and low-avoidance rats (RHA/Verh, RLA/Verh) were continuously recorded while animals were successively offered three isocaloric (≍16.5-kJ/g) diets: a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet (LF; 3.3% fat), a medium-fat diet (MF; 18% fat), and a high-fat diet (HF; 40% fat), the latter being followed once again by the LF diet. Under the conditions of this experiment, overall 24h food intake did not differ significantly between RHA/Verh and RLA/Verh rats, but was significantly higher for both rat strains on the MF and HF diets than on the LF diet. Despite the similar 24h-food intake, RHA/Verh rats ate transiently less than RLA/Verh rats during the third quarter of the dark phase under all dietary conditions. These differences were due to the RHA/Verh rats' longer intermeal intervals (with all diets) and smaller meals (with the MF and HF diets) and were compensated for during the last 3 h of the dark phase. On the LF diet, dark-phase meal frequency was higher and both nocturnal meal size and mean eating rate within meals were lower in RLA/Verh rats than in RHA/Verh rats. With the MF and HF diets, mean nocturnal meal size and meal duration were higher and mean eating rate was lower in RLA/Verh rats than in RHA/Verh rats. For both strains, nocturnal meal size was significantly higher with the MF and HF diets than with the LF diet, and nocturnal meal frequency was lower with the HF diet than with the other two diets. Although body weights were similar at the start of the study, RLA/Verh rats gained significantly more weight than did RHA/Verh rats by the end. As has often been the case with other aspects of behavior studied, differences in neuromodulatory systems (e.g., serotoninergic and dopaminergic) between RHA/Verh and RLA/Verh rats may directly or indirectly contribute to the subtle differences in eating patterns observed here
