Fantastinių vaizdinių, sapnų, svajų motyvai retai pastebimi Juozapo Ignaco Kraševskio (Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, 1812–1887) tapybos darbuose ar piešiniuose, tačiau gan dažni literatūrinėje kūryboje ir turėjo didelės įtakos romantizmo pasaulėjautos sklaidai kultūroje. Neretai jo veikaluose sapnas suvokiamas kaip ateities įvykių apreiškimo žmogui būdas. Pavyzdžiui, garsios lietuvių mitologija ir istorija paremtos poemos „Anafielas“ antroje dalyje, skirtoje Mindaugo temai, jau pačioje pradžioje įterpiami baisūs Lietuvos valdovo sapno vaizdiniai, per kuriuos atskleidžiama tragiška tautos ir paties valdovo lemtis – sapnas, „perplėšdamas juodos ateities skraistę“, Dievo valia, tampa simboline Lietuvos istorijos prefigūracija. Kita vertus, sapnai perkelia žmogų į kitą, dvasinę, realybę, daug įvairesnę ir turtingesnę nei konkrečių kasdienos įvykių sąlygotas „tikras“ gyvenimas. Tuo pačiu sapnai tampa anapusybės patyrimo forma ir, nepaisant to, kad kai kada priartėja prie mirties išgyvenimo (žinomas Kraševskio sapnas apie savo paties mirtį), rašytojo buvo suvokiami kaip įvykiai, svajos, „atsitikimai“, tampantys „kita, keistesne, ir, kas žino, ar ne laimingiausia gyvenimo dalimi“. Gyvenimo pabaigoje rašytojas kentėjo nuo miego sutrikimų, dažnai neatsimindavo sapnų, o įdomiausius fiksavo laiškuose broliui, be to, jų pagrindu parašė autobiografinį pasakojimą „Bemiegės naktys“, dalimis publikuotą savaitraštyje "Tygodnik ilustrowany". Šiuose tekstuose rašytojas vartoja sąvoką „skaidrus, permatomas sapnas“, kuri apibūdina tam tikrą lyg hipnotinę būseną, negilaus miego ar pusiau miego, pusiau būdravimo laiką, pripildytą tikrovės vaizdų, sumišusių su sapnais. Tai nemaloni būsena, kai kūnas trokšta miego, o dvasia budi, kai baiminamasi beprotybės. Kraševskio autobiografinis apsakymas „Sapnų prisiminimai“ 1839 m. buvo publikuotas Poznanėje leistame kultūros savaitraštyje "Tygodnik Literacki". Kūrinys parašytas Omelno dvare Voluinėje (dab. Ukraina, Lucko rajonas), kuriame Kraševskis su žmona Sofija Voronovičiūte (Woronowiczówna) gyveno 1838–1840 m., taigi priskiriamas ankstyvajam jo kūrybos laikotarpiui ir neturi „Bemiegiems naktims“ būdingos slogios nuotaikos, tačiau jame jau užčiuopiamos temos ir vaizdiniai, pasikartosiantys ir vėlesnių metų veikaluose. Motifs of fantastic images, dreams and daydreams are seldom found in Józef Ignacy Kraszewski’s (1812–1887) paintings or drawings, but are quite frequent in his literary work and had a huge impact on the dissemination of the romanticist worldview in culture. In his works, dream is often perceived as a means of communicating future events to the dreamer. On the other hand, dream transfers the dreamer to another, spiritual realm, which is much more varied and richer than “real” life conditioned by concrete daily events. The writer perceived such dreams as events, “happenings”, a more bizarre but happier part of life. Kraszewski’s writings greatly contributed to the Romanticist worldview taking root in art. A Lithuanian translation of his autobiographical short "Memories of Dreams" is published here. Written when Kraszewski lived in the Omelne manor in Volhynia (today, Lutsk region in Ukraine), the text appeared in the cultural weekly "Tygodnik Literacki" published in Poznań in 1839. Le but de cet article est de montrer quelles fonctions joue la référence autobiographique dans le système d’Auguste Comte. Un système doit tout expliquer, y compris la biographie de son auteur. Comte donne un sens à sa vie à travers son système, sans laisser aucune place au hasard. Mais des événements de sa vie ont aussi provoqué une évolution de sa pensée. Le fondateur du positivisme a voulu maîtriser l’unité de l’ensemble en construisant sa propre légende, avec sa part de déni et de mystification. Cette attitude prend tout son sens à mesure que le positivisme devient une nouvelle religion. The aim of this article is to show what functions the autobiographical reference plays in Auguste Comte’s system. A system must explain everything, including the biography of its author. Comte gives meaning to his life through his system, without leaving any place to chance. But events in his life also provoked an evolution of his thought. The founder of positivism wanted to control the unity of the whole by building his own legend, with its share of denial and mystification. This attitude takes on its full meaning as positivism becomes a new religion.

Käesolev magistritöö annab ülevaate fin de siècle perioodil ilmunud lastekirjanduse žanri ja religiooni kokkupuudetest. Magistritöö eesmärgiks on anda ülevaade 19. sajandi lõpul ja 20. sajandi algul tekkinud kindlate struktuuri- ja vormitunnustega lastekirjanduse žanrist sisu ja tegelaskujude kaudu, ajaloolises ning religioosses vaates ja vastata küsimustele – kuidas on tekkinud žanr kooskõlas üldisemate sajandilõpu (fin de siècle) meeleoludega ning mida kõneleb see žanr religioosses perspektiivis?

Une exégèse de « hantise de l’essentiel » (Précis de décomposition) est réinterprétée comme la « hantise d’un échec essentiel ». En vertu de cette hantise-limite, Cioran s’avère, paradoxalement, un auteur moderne et antimoderne à la fois. L’échec est la version moderne du néant ; son expérience nous révèle l’essentiel à l’égard de l’existence. Bien plus qu’une contingence redoutable, l’échec est un impératif, la seule forme de perfection à la portée de l’esprit trop exigeant, difficile dans ce qu’il fait.

Le roman dont il est question dans cette étude situe son intrigue dans le contexte post-romantique des années 1850. Les influences de la « bohème » et de l’hypnose sont d’abord présentées dans leur contexte historique au XIXe siècle (romantisme et mesmérisme), puis, ces deux thèmes majeurs du roman sont analysés dans la scène de Noël. Les tensions narratives sont suspendues dans le passage décrivant Noël, véritable pivot du récit dans la vie des personnages. L’ironie justifiée par la bonne humeur de circonstance lors du gigantesque et fabuleux repas de Noël permet alors d’aborder les questions fâcheuses de politique et de religion entre la France et la Grande Bretagne : le christianisme et le judaïsme (en l’occurrence, l’antisémitisme)., The novel which is about in this study situates its plot in a post-romantic context of the 1850s. The influences of “bohemianism” and hypnosis are first presented in their historical context in the 19th century (romanticism and mesmerism), then these two main themes of the novel are analyzed in the Christmas scene. The narrative tensions are suspended during the passage describing Christmas, a true story’s pivot in characters’s lifes. The irony explained by the good mood for the occasion during the gigantic and fabulous Christmas meal then makes it possible to tackle the unfortunate questions of politics and religion between France and Great Britain, Christianity and Judaism (and regarding the present case anti-Semitism).

On several occasions in his writing career, Nestor Victor manifested his conviction of the relevance of the spiritual nature and its precedence over matter for the understanding of the best perception of reality. An adept of the spiritualist current of thought that opposed Naturalism and the stereotypes of scientism, he perfectly valued the eternity of individual consciousness, although he was not specifically a follower of any religion. Engaged in neo-Romantic ideals, he believed in the existence of the spirit, but was not comfortable with the old dogmas of religion and belief in the supernatural. Even though he did not adhere to any religious denomination, throughout his career he opposed materialism, always enthusiastic about spiritualist manifestations that gave vigor to the sense of mystery in the deepest manifestation of reality. He marked his career by the admiration of great personalities who dedicated their lives to literary discourse. Above all, literature was, for him, a means to appreciate the correspondences that the great spirits kept among themselves and he practiced reading and producing essays with the purpose of reaching new values. A literature professor, he taught students and the great writers of his time to perceive the ethical grandeurs behind the aesthetic densities. Em diversos momentos de sua carreira de escritor, Nestor Victor combateu o sectarismo e engrandeceu a primazia da consciência sobre a matéria. Adepto da corrente de pensamento espiritualista, compreendeu perfeitamente a eternidade da consciência individual, embora não fosse especificamente seguidor de nenhuma religião. Baseado nos ideais românticos, acreditava na existência do espírito, mas se sentia incomodado com a crença do sobrenatural e o pensamento mágico. Mesmo não se sentindo afeito à adesão a nenhuma denominação religiosa, ao longo de sua carreira divulgou-as, sempre entusiasmado com as manifestações espiritualistas que davam vigor ao senso do mistério na realidade humana. Marcou sua carreira pela admiração das grandes biografias que dedicaram as suas vidas em prol do discurso literário. Apreciava as correspondências que tinham os grandes espíritos entre si e praticava leitura e escritura dos textos com a finalidade de atingir os grandes conceitos éticos. Professor de literatura, ensinou alunos e grandes escritores do seu tempo a perceberem as grandezas espirituais por trás das densidades estéticas.

Orientador: Carlos Eduardo Ornelas Berriel Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem Resumo: Em ¿Jogos e Cenas do Casamento¿, nosso objetivo principal é apresentar um estudo detalhado da construção e do modo como Machado de Assis elabora suas personagens e seus narradores em Contos Fluminenses (1870) e Histórias da Meia Noite (1873). Se considerarmos a imagem principal que une as treze narrativas desses livros, veremos que todas ¿ a exceção aparente é ¿Aurora sem dia¿ ¿ são histórias de amor que têm como imagem/tema central o casamento, seja nos preparos que antecedem o contrato ou em seus aspectos cerimoniais, seja na intimidade conjugal dos lares já concebidos. Mais do que isso, há um elo maior entre as histórias, e uma imagem que se afirma como preponderante: o fracasso do casamento. As mocinhas e os heróis machadianos são construídos mediante as dificuldades e os problemas matrimoniais, decorrentes muitas vezes de imposições paternas ou das expectativas (mediadas, sobretudo, pela literatura) e experiências amorosas dos envolvidos. São essas personagens, em última hipótese, que veiculam essas imagens de fracasso e as apresentam ao leitor. Mas nesse processo de captação do amor e do casamento aparece quase sempre um narrador a sussurrar no ouvido do leitor algo acerca da personagem e da imagem amorosa construída por ela. Dessa forma, as imagens e cenas matrimoniais são filtradas (e desestabilizadas) pelas exposições de personagens e narradores, uns a intervirem na concepção amorosa de outros. Por isso, este estudo prioriza não só a caracterização dessas primeiras personagens machadianas, mas também dos narradores desses contos como forma de examinar melhor o modo como ambos constroem essas imagens amorosas e a partir de que outras associações elas nascem e se definem, já que se tratam, na maior parte das vezes, de homens e mulheres inexperientes em relação ao amor e à própria realidade do casamento. Abstract: In ¿Jogos e Cenas do Casamento¿, our main objective is to introduce a detailed study of the construction and the way Machado de Assis elaborates his characters and narrators in Contos Fluminenses (1870) and Histórias da Meia Noite (1873). If we consider the mainstream image that joins the thirteen narratives of this collectanea, we will see thal all of them ¿ the apparent exception is ¿Aurora sem dia¿ ¿ are love stories that bears as a mainstream image/theme the marriage, either in the preparations that happen before the contract or its ceremonials aspects, either in conjugal intimacy of conceived homes. Moreover, there is a bigger link between the stories and an image that is itself preponderant: the failure of marriage. The ¿machadianos¿ ladies and heroes are constructed the difficulties and matrimonial problems, generated most of the time by father impositions or expectancy (mediated for literature) and love experiences of the involved ones. These characters are in last hypothesis, the ones that take the images of failure and introduce them to reader. But in this process of catching love and marriage, almost always there is a narrator whispering something on the ear¿s reader about the characters and the loving image constructed by the character. In this way, the matrimonial images and scenes are filtered for expositions of the characters and narrators, intervening in the loving conception of each other. Thus, this study prioritizes not only the characterization of the first ¿machadianos¿ characters, but also the tale¿s narrators as a way of examining better how they both construct these loving images and from where other possible associations are born and defined, once they deal, most of the times, with inexperienced men and women in relation to love and the reality of marriage. Orientador: Francisco Foot Hardmann Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem Resumo: Este trabalho tem por objetivo o estudo da formação do cânone dentro do campo literário brasileiro durante o século 19 e sua vinculação política ao projeto de literatura nacional, considerando a literatura como a manifestação mais visível e sintomática de um verdadeiro discurso da nacionalidade entre os primeiros escritores românticos oitocentistas (maranhenses e fluminenses), igualmente no sentido de chegarmos a identificar a própria invenção do cânone literário brasileiro. É nossa intenção apontar as manifestações de nativismo e nacionalidade que perpassou boa parte da literatura do oitocentos, analisando como se porta o campo literário como epifenômeno do campo do poder. Embora tais manifestações ocorram mais em determinados tipos de intelectuais e literatos, pois os grupos citados apresentam traços distintos, ao longo de toda a produção literária brasileira do século 19 podemos contemplar o fio que vai dos primeiros escritos gerados pelos respectivos "grupos" em questão até o fim do oitocentos, quando se encerra, por assim dizer, o período ateniense da literatura maranhense e conclui-se, da mesma maneira, o raio de influência do nacionalismo do grupo fluminense. O presente texto visa, portanto, produzir uma nova descrição do processo de construção da nacionalidade e da civilização, bem como da "construção da ordem", em seus diversos níveis e aspectos sócio-históricos, utilizando o estudo do cânone e de sua gênese como instrumento para detectar a historicidade da formação de nossa história literária, seus processos de seleção e exclusão e suas motivações de ordem ideológica e estrutura discursiva. Deste modo, adotamos também, em paralelo ao estudo das fontes documentais e literárias, o procedimento de uma análise das práticas sociais e artísticas do campo literário durante o oitocentos, tomando por base a visão que o campo literário e o campo do poder (político e econômico) tinham da nacionalidade recém-inventada e como reagiram diante das transformações políticas e sociais que agitaram a vida brasileira do período, cujos reflexos podem ser sintomaticamente percebidos através do cânone em formação. Desta forma, pretende-se suscitar uma discussão em torno do que o campo literário pensava do processo de emancipação do país e qual era o seu projeto de nacionalidade através do cânone. Trata-se, pois, de saber como o campo pensou e forjou os seus próprios valores através do tempo, como edificou os seus mitos, como fixou o seu habitus coletivo, como viu e fez o seu passado, como se portou no seio das práticas sociais e culturais na região e resto do país e, sobretudo, como desenvolveu e formou seu ideal de nação, de cultura e, particularmente, de literatura. Abstract: This work intends to investigate the formation of the Brazilian literature canon in the 19 century and intends to comprehend how this process is politically entailed to a nationality project. Assured that the literature is the most visible and symptomatic manifestation of nationality speeches among the first romantic's writers (grouped in "maranhenses" and "fluminenses"), this study identify the invention of the brazilian's literary canon itself. Our purpose is identify the manifestations of nativism and nationality that passed trought great part of our 19 century's literature, analyzing the behavior of this literary field as an epiphenomenon of the field of power. Otherwise, these political manifestations may happen differently in each group of intellectuals and writers: following the whole 19 century we can see the developing and decadence of the both groups, while the athenian's period is interrupted in the middle of the 19 century, the fluminense's period will try an overliving among the 19 and 20 centuries. This text wants to produce a new description of the building process of the Brazilian civilization, as well as seeks the "construction of the order" in its various levels and social-historical aspects, taking the investigation of the canon, and it's genesis, as an instrument to detect the historicity of the conformation of our literary history, observing its processes of selection and exclusion, the ideological motivations and the structures of its speeches. In this way, we also study, simultaneously with the literary and historical sources research, the analysis of the social's and artistic's practices that belongs to the 19 century's literary field. We consider that the literary field and the field of power (political and economical) they had the conception of recently created nationality. At the same time, we comprehend the way that this both groups reacted before the social and political transformations that mobilized the Brazilian life in this period: this transformations can be symptomatically conceived when we observe the formation of the canon. In this way, we intend to stimulate a discussion about the meanings of Brazilian's process of emancipation, and about its own project of nationality expressed beyond the canon. The objective is understanding the way that the literary field understood and merged its own values beyond the time, the way that its created its proper myths, how it marked its own collective habitus, how this field watched and constructed its own past, how it carried itself in the middle of the social's and cultural's practices in the north of Brazil (and among all the country). Otherwise, we due to understand how the literary canon constructed its own idea of nation, its own idea of culture, and particularly, of literature. Orientador: Marcelo Siqueira Ridenti Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas Resumo: O presente trabalho procura analisar alguns aspectos do pensamento sociológico de Michael Löwy, suas principais premissas sociológicas e a sua relação com pensadores como Karl Mannheim e Max Weber. Em relação a Weber, tentaremos analisar a proposta de Löwy a respeito da incorporação do método weberiano de uma forma não eclética, mas dialética. Em um segundo momento, este trabalho também procura analisar o conceito de "afinidades eletivas" na obra de Michael Löwy. O surgimento de tal conceito no âmbito das Ciências Sociais se deu através de Max Weber, sobretudo em "A ética protestante e o espírito do capitalismo". Este é um outro aspecto do pensamento de Weber que Löwy se apropria, e utiliza-o para analisar figuras como "judaísmo libertário" e "teologia da libertação". Porém, afirmamos que o estudo de Löwy acerca da Teologia da Libertação possui alguns aspectos que precisam ser rediscutidos, pois ele dá uma ênfase na "fusão" e "simbiose" entre as duas figuras que estão se relacionando, o marxismo e o cristianismo. Procuramos, com base no pensamento de Antonio Gramsci, argumentar que a ênfase na "fusão'' entre as figuras acaba por travar o movimento dialético e não perceber a necessidade de continuidade do movimento Abstract: The present work seeks to analyse some aspects in Michael Lowy's sociological thought, its main sociological premises regarding thinkers as Karl Mannheim and Max Weber. Regarding to Weber, we will try to analyse Lowy's proposals about the incorporation of the weberian method on a dialectic instead of the eclectic way. In a second moment, this work also seek to analyse the concept of "elective affinities" in Michael Lowy's works. Such concept arises through Max Weber in the scope of Social Scienses, above all in the "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism". This is another aspect of Weber's thought wich Lowy has appropriated and utilized to analyse some pictures as the "liberation judaism" and the "liberation theology". However, we states that the Low's studies about Freedom Theology have some aspects that need to be discussed again, because he emphasizes the "fusion" and "simbiosis" between two pictures related to each other: the marxism and the christianism. Dostoevsky was convicted for taking part in a revolutionary conspiracy against the czar, and this experience as a prisoner left deep marks in his literary trajectory. Starting from the defense of the Russian soil, considering it the only space able to articulate an opposition to the rationalist and romantic theories, the novelist will establish his critique of modernity. Therefore, this article seeks to analyze Dostoevsky’s criticism of Western ideologies and how that critical conception is formulated as a critique of modernity, but in the terms of a modern discourse. Dostoiévski foi condenado por conspiração revolucionária contra o tsar e a experiência do cárcere deixou marcas profundas em sua trajetória literária. Partindo de uma defesa do solo russo enquanto único espaço capaz de articular uma oposição às teorias racionalista e romântica, o romancista estabelece sua crítica da modernidade. O artigo, portanto, busca analisar as críticas de Dostoiévski às ideologias ocidentais, bem como em que sentido essa concepção é elaborada enquanto crítica da modernidade, porém nos termos de um discurso moderno.

Ovaj diplomski rad predložio je postupke za interpretaciju i ukupni metodički pristup romanu Emma. Rad je obuhvatio povijesni i društveni kontekst za vrijeme života i stvaranja Jane Austen, autorice romana.Budući da je u vrijeme njezina života glavni medij komunikacije bilo pismo te da su brojna njezina pisma ostala sačuvana, posvećeno je posebno poglavlje u kojemu se analiziraju njezina privatna pisma, ali i pismo kao tehnika kojom se služila u svojim djelima. Zatim slijedi analiza romana Emma u kojoj je ukratko objašnjen sadržaj djela. Predstavljena su obilježja književnih epoha u kojima djelo nastaje. Navedena su osnovna obilježja feminizma i utjecaj feminističkih pokreta na književnost. S obzirom na to da Jane Austen u svojim djelima upotrebljava novu tehniku pisanja, na primjeru romana Emma analiziran je pripovjedač i uvođenje fokalizacijske svijesti. Potom je opisana ironija kao dominantna figura u djelu, a navedeni su i primjeri za verbalnu, situacijsku i dramsku ironiju.Na kraju prvog dijela diplomskog rada predstavljena je glavna tema romana Emma. Slijedi psihološka i sociološka karakterizacija glavne junakinje s primjerima i citatima iz romana, kako bi se potkrijepile tvrdnje i opisao Emmin karakter. Drugi dio rada donosi metodički pristup djelu. Predloženo je nekoliko različitih pristupa romanu. Ovisno o polazištu interpretacije, predstavljene su ideje za moguću obradu djela na nastavi. Na temelju njezinih romana moguće je uspostaviti korelacije s drugim predmetima - Engleski jezik, Psihologija, Povijest - te time obogatiti i upotpuniti analizu djela. S obzirom na to da je sat zamišljen prema sastavnicama interpretativno-analitičkog sustava, u njegovom je središtu interpretacija i rad na tekstu. Priložene su dvije metodičke priprave za nastavni sat. Jedna obuhvaća interpretaciju djela u cijelosti, a druga donosi fragmentaran pristup romanu.

Este artículo analiza las posibles interpretaciones de la historia urbana de la ciudad de Porto Alegre, capital de Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, a través de la visión del cronista Achylles Porto Alegre como un extranjero en el centro urbano. Entendiendo que la narrativa del pasado nos lleva a un país extranjero, según David Lowenthal, es posible leer las crónicas de Achylles, periodista e historiador brasileño, activo entre finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, como el relato de un viaje a un país lejano y exótico. La obra del cronista, concebida bajo los auspicios del romanticismo, saca a la luz la ciudad pasada de los siglos XVIII y XIX, a menudo comparándola con la del siglo XX, construyendo la imagen de otra ciudad, una ciudad extranjera, en otra época y lugar. Aquest article analitza les possibles interpretacions de la història urbana de la ciutat de Porto Alegre, capital de Rio Gran do Sul, al Brasil, a través de la visió del cronista Achylles Porto Alegre com un estranger en el centre urbà. Entenent que la narrativa del passat ens porta a un país estranger, segons David Lowenthal, és possible llegir les cròniques d'Achylles, periodista i historiador brasiler, actiu entre finals del segle XIX i principis del XX, com el relat d'un viatge a un país llunyà i exòtic. This article discusses possible interpretations of the urban history of the city of Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, through the vision of the chronicler Achylles Porto Alegre as a foreigner in the urban centre. Understanding that the narrative of the past takes us to a foreign country, according to David Lowenthal, it is possible to read the chronicles of Achylles, a Brazilian journalist and historian active at the end of the 19th and early 20th century, as the report of a trip to a distant and exotic country. The chronicler's work, once conceived under the auspices of Romanticism, brings to light the city of the 18th and 19th century, often comparing it with that of the 20th, constructing an image of another city, a foreign city, in another time and place. Este artigo analisa as possíveis interpretações da história urbana da cidade de Porto Alegre, capital do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, a partir da visão do cronista Achylles Porto Alegre como um estrangeiro no centro urbano. Entendendo que a narrativa do passado nos leva a um país estrangeiro, segundo David Lowenthal, é possível ler as crônicas de Achylles, jornalista e historiador brasileiro, atuante entre o final do século 19 e o início do século 20, como a história de um viagem a um país distante e exótico. A obra do cronista, concebida sob os auspícios do romantismo, traz à tona a cidade perdida dos séculos XVIII e XIX, muitas vezes comparando-a com a do século XX, construindo a imagem de outra cidade, de uma cidade estrangeira, de outra época e lugar.

A investigação privilegiará a ótica da subjetividade lírica, e buscará esclarecer e aprofundar aquelas características românticas perceptíveis nessa obra, como o eu lírico imerso na subjetividade e na expressão de sua individualidade. A pesquisa ainda terá como finalidade mostrar outros aspectos relevantes como os componentes específicos da poesia de Machado de Assis, tanto no plano do conteúdo, como no plano estrutural. Aqui se encontram, por exemplo, os recursos estilísticos, poéticos, lexicais, sonoros e plásticos responsáveis pela instauração da poesia machadiana a ser analisada, assim como os aspectos relativos à temática e suas implicações. Tudo isso se pretende demonstrar por meios das análises poéticas minuciosas presentes nesta pesquisa buscando-se, portanto, evidenciar a pluralidade e a diversidade temática da poesia machadiana e o seu impacto na fase final do Romantismo brasileiro. O interesse pelo estudo da poesia machadiana foi despertado pelo fato de ela ser tão pouco apreciada e estudada pela crítica – isto culmina no fato de Machado de Assis ser reconhecido “apenas” como o maior romancista de todos os tempos da Literatura Brasileira; daí sabemos que sua poesia ficou à margem em relação à sua prosa. Por qual motivo? O que faltou para Machado ser elevado ao status de um grande poeta? Por que será que a poesia do escritor não acompanhou a grandiosidade de sua prosa? Diante disto, vê-se como necessário um estudo detalhado e aprofundado do legado poético machadiano – estudo este que se beneficiará do aporte da própria crítica machadiana sobre poesia lírica, notadamente a do Romantismo brasileiro. This research has as its main objective the study of romantic phase of the first book poetic Machadian, Crisálidas (1864). The research will focus the optics of the lyric subjectivity, and seek to clarify and deepen those romantic characteristics perceptible in this work, as the lyrical immersed in subjectivity and the expression of your individuality. The research will also have the objective of showing other relevant aspects and specific components in Machado de Assis’ poetry, both in content as in form, for example the rhetorical, poetic, lexical, sound and plastic devices responsible for the Machadian poetry here analyzed, as well as the aspects related to the theme and its implications; all of this will be demonstrated through thorough analysis of the poetry made during the research that will eventually put the author poetry’s many facets and its impact in the final phase of Brazilian Romantism in the spotlight. Our interest in studying Machadian poetry came from the fact that it is not a subject that is studied and appreciated by the critics, which causes Machado de Assis to be known as the greatest romance writer of all times in Brazilian Literature, and from that we know that his poetry was left to the side in regard to his prose. Why? What was missing for him to achieve the status of a great poet? Why did his writing not achieve the greatness of his prose? A deep and detailed research about his poetic legacy is needed, and this study will benefit from critics about lyric poetry by the author himself, especially Brazilian Romantism.

The paper explores the following question: what were the psychological con­sequences and operational benefits of the affirmative acceptance of modernity by Stanisław Brzozowski in the context of his dispute with traditional Polish­ness? Brzozowski’s methods of reference towards Polish Romanticism writ­ings (Filozofia romantyzmu polskiego) have been illustrated on the basis of the examples drawn from his journalistic (Kultura i życie), philosophical (Idee), novel (Płomienie, Sam wśród ludzi), and reminiscent (Pamiętnik) texts., Artykuł poszukuje odpowiedzi na pytanie o psychologiczne konsekwencje i operacyjne korzyści afirmatywnej akceptacji nowoczesności przez Stani­sława Brzozowskiego w kontekście jego sporu z tradycyjnie pojmowaną pol­skością. Brzozowskiego metoda odwołania się do pism polskiego romantyzmu (Filozofia romantyzmu polskiego) została zilustrowana na podstawie przykła­dów zaczerpniętych z publicystyki (Kultura i życie), filozofii (Idee), powieści (Płomienie, Sam wśród ludzi), a także wspomnień (Pamiętnik).

This dissertation analyses sublime in art and it is based on the works of William Turner and his quest for the sublime. The analysis begins from the great philosophers, starting with Longinus, goes to Edmund Burke till it reaches more modern philosophers like Immanuel Kant. Early works of Turner are being analysed till his death, as well as his sublime paintings that have been recognised by the public. Concluding, the dissertation takes a look at sublime today, that has been influenced greatly by technology and world globalisation and considers the similarities between the sublime in the 19th and the 20th centuries. Η παρούσα διατριβή αναλύει το υψηλό στη τέχνη και ειδικότερα καταπιάνεται με το έργο του ζωγράφου Ουίλιαμ Τέρνερ, στο ταξίδι του για την αναζήτηση του υψηλού. Η ανάλυση του υψηλού αρχίζει από τους μεγάλους φιλόσοφους και συγκεκριμένα από τον Λογγίνο μέχρι τον Έντμουντ Μπέρκ και προχωρά στους πιο σύγχρονους φιλοσόφους μέχρι τον Ιμμάνουελ Καντ. Αναλύονται έργα από την πρώιμη ζωή του Τέρνερ, καθώς και οι υψηλοί του πίνακες που έχουν αναγνωριστεί ευρέως από το κοινό. Τελειώνοντας, η διατριβή καταλήγει στη θέση του υψηλού σήμερα, η οποία έχει επηρεαστεί πολύ από την τεχνολογία και την παγκοσμιοποίηση του κόσμου και παραθέτει τις ομοιότητες που συνδέουν το υψηλό κατά τον 19ο αιώνα με το υψηλό κατά τον 20ο αιώνα.
