Le but de cet article est de montrer quelles fonctions joue la référence autobiographique dans le système d’Auguste Comte. Un système doit tout expliquer, y compris la biographie de son auteur. Comte donne un sens à sa vie à travers son système, sans laisser aucune place au hasard. Mais des événements de sa vie ont aussi provoqué une évolution de sa pensée. Le fondateur du positivisme a voulu maîtriser l’unité de l’ensemble en construisant sa propre légende, avec sa part de déni et de mystification. Cette attitude prend tout son sens à mesure que le positivisme devient une nouvelle religion. The aim of this article is to show what functions the autobiographical reference plays in Auguste Comte’s system. A system must explain everything, including the biography of its author. Comte gives meaning to his life through his system, without leaving any place to chance. But events in his life also provoked an evolution of his thought.
