1. Differences in psychopathology and behavioral characteristics of patients affected by conversion motor disorder and organic dystonia

New diagnostic criteria are highly needed in this scenario. The main aim of this study was to explore the use of behavioral features as an inclusion criterion for CMD, taking into account the relationship of the patients with physicians, and comparing the results with those from patients affected by organic dystonia (OD). Patients and methods: Patients from the outpatient Movement Disorder Service were assigned to either the CMD or the OD group based on Fahn and Williams criteria. Differences in sociodemographics, disease history, psychopathology, and degree of satisfaction about care received were assessed. Patient–neurologist agreement about the etiological nature of the disorder was also assessed using the k-statistic. A logistic regression analysis estimated the discordance status as a predictor to case/control status. Results: In this study, 31 CMD and 31 OD patients were included. CMD patients showed a longer illness life span, involvement of more body regions, higher comorbidity with anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder, as well as higher negative opinions about physicians’ delivering of proper care. Contrary to our expectations, CMD disagreement with neurologists about the etiological nature of the disorder was not statistically significant. Additional analysis showed that having at least one personality disorder was statistically associated with the discordance status. Conclusion: This study suggests that CMD patients show higher conflicting behavior toward physicians. Contrary to our expectations, they show awareness of their psychological needs, suggesting a possible lack of recognition of psychological distress in the neurological setting. Abstract: The Auger Muon Infill Ground Array (AMIGA) is part of the AugerPrime upgrade of the Pierre Auger Observatory. It consists of particle counters buried 2.3 m underground next to the water-Cherenkov stations that form the 23.5 km$^2$ large infilled array. The reduced distance between detectors in this denser area allows the lowering of the energy threshold for primary cosmic ray reconstruction down to about 10$^{17}$ eV. At the depth of 2.3 m the electromagnetic component of cosmic ray showers is almost entirely absorbed so that the buried scintillators provide an independent and direct measurement of the air showers muon content. This work describes the design and implementation of the AMIGA embedded system, which provides centralized control, data acquisition and environment monitoring to its detectors. The presented system was firstly tested in the engineering array phase ended in 2017, and lately selected as the final design to be installed in all new detectors of the production phase. The system was proven to be robust and reliable and has worked in a stable manner since its first deployment., Comment: Accepted for publication at JINST. Abstract: Background Factors Influencing Depression Endpoints Research (FINDER) is a 6-month, prospective, observational study carried out in 12 European countries aimed at investigating health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in outpatients receiving pharmacological treatment for a first or new depressive episode. Baseline characteristics of patients enrolled in Italy are presented. Methods All treatment decisions were at the discretion of the investigator. Data were collected at baseline and after 3 and 6 months of treatment. Baseline evaluations included demographics, medical and psychiatric history, and medications used in the last 24 months and prescribed at enrolment. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), was adopted to evaluate depressive symptoms, while somatic and painful physical symptoms were assessed by using the Somatic Symptom Inventory (SSI) and a 0 to 100 mm visual analogue scale (VAS), HRQoL via 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), and the European Quality of Life 5-Dimensions (EQ-5D) instrument. Results A total of 513 patients were recruited across 38 sites. The mean ± standard deviation (SD) age at first depressive episode was 38.7 ± 15.9 years, the mean duration of depression 10.6 ± 12.3 years. The most common psychiatric comorbidities in the previous 24 months were anxiety/panic (72.6%) and obsessive/compulsive disorders (13.4%), while 35.9% had functional somatic syndromes. Most patients (65.1%) reported pain from any cause. Monotherapy with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) was prescribed at enrolment in 64.5% and 6.4% of the cases, respectively. The most commonly prescribed agents were sertraline (17.3%), escitalopram (16.2%), venlaflaxine (15.6%) and paroxetine (14.8%). The mean HADS subscores for depression and anxiety were 13.3 ± 4.2 and 12.2 ± 3.9, respectively; 76.4% of patients could be defined as being 'probable cases' for depression and 66.2% for anxiety. The mean total score of VAS-pain in the last week was 42.9 ± 27.1, with highest scores reported in the 'interference of pain with daily activities' and in 'amount of time patient was awake and had pain'. From SF-36, the worst health status was found for role limitations due to emotional problem, mental health and social functioning. A mean score < 50 (that is, below the standardised population norm) was also found in all remaining domains. The SF-36 summary scores and EQ-5D (health status and VAS) were lower in patients with moderate/severe pain than in those with no or mild pain. Conclusion The baseline results of patients enrolled in the FINDER study in Italy show clinical and functional impairments, and poor HRQoL. The results obtained after 6 months of therapy will permit better understanding the effects of different variables on clinical outcomes and HRQoL.

Abstract: Introduction. The present work presents data on research into adolescents who committed sex offenses, carried out in the Apulia Region of southern Italy and focused in particular on the perpetrators' perception of the peculiar profile of the criminal act committed. Materials and Methods. Three University sections of the School of Medicine, Bari University, took part in this research: Criminology and Forensic Psychopathology, Psychiatry and Juvenile Neuropsichiatry, working in collaboration with the Department for Juvenile Justice and the Community, and the Center for Juvenile Justice in Apulia. In total, 31 subjects were included in the study, all Juvenile Sex Offenders. A detailed questionnaire was employed to obtain all the relevant information of criminological concern. Discussion. Among most of the minors considered, a very poor awareness emerged of the peculiar type of offense committed, and of its consequences on the victims and the social context. Results. This finding highlights an evident contradiction and confusion between legislative provisions in the area of sex offenses and rape, and the perspectives of juveniles and adolescents. Conclusions. There is an evident need for legislative norms to adopt registers that are more accessible to the complex juvenile world, that cannot be assimilated to the adult world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It consists of particle counters buried 2.3m underground next to the water-Cherenkov stations that form the 23.5 km2 large infilled array. The reduced distance between detectors in this denser area allows the lowering of the energy threshold for primary cosmic ray reconstruction down to about 1017 eV. At the depth of 2.3m the electromagnetic component of cosmic ray showers is almost entirely absorbed so that the buried scintillators provide an independent and direct measurement of the air showers muon content. This work describes the design and implementation of the AMIGA embedded system, which provides centralized control, data acquisition and environment monitoring to its detectors. The presented system was firstly tested in the engineering array phase ended in 2017, and lately selected as the final design to be installed in all new detectors of the production phase. Abstract: Two families of hexameric cyclic peptoids decorated with linear N-alkyl and alternated N-alkyl/N-benzyl side chains (2 a–d and 3 a–c, respectively) were designed and synthesized in order to correlate their logP values (from 2.55 to 6.83) to their ionophoric activities. The present contribution confirms the general ability of hexameric cyclic peptoids to behave as efficient cation carriers, corroborates their preference for Na+ ion, among the tested alkali metals, and suggests a Na+/H+ antiport transport mechanism (rate limited by the transport of the proton) for these new ionophores. Abstract: A novel asymmetric phase-transfer-catalyzed γ-alkylation of phthalide 3-carboxylic esters has been developed, giving access to 3,3-disubstituted phthalide derivatives, which present a chiral quaternary γ-carbon in good to excellent yields and good enantioselectivities (74–88% ee). The enantiomeric purity could be substantially enhanced to 94–95% ee by recrystallization. Both electron-withdrawing and electron-releasing substituents are well tolerated on the phthalide core as well as on the aromatic moiety of the alkylating agent. This methodology, enabling the introduction of an unfunctionalized group at the phthalide γ-position, fully complements previously reported organocatalytic strategies involving functionalized electrophiles, thus expanding the scope of accessible 3,3-disubstituted products. The high synthetic value of this asymmetric reaction has been proven by the formal synthesis of the naturally occurring alkaloid (+)-(9S,13R)-13-hydroxyisocyclocelabenzine.

Abstract: The “voluntary simplicity” approach is the main strategy put forward by degrowth supporters. Obeying to this path, an elite, most “aware” of the necessity of degrowth, will give the good example, staging degrowth practices, here and now, without waiting to “take the power”, in the hope that their practical virtues will stand out so obviously and infect the rest of the citizens, those “poor ones” who are still unaware. But if degrowth is presented as something very urgent, why choosing a so slow elitist strategy? Degrowth supporters and theorists do not care so much to embody and relate their arguments to actual, existent social and historical processes, i.e. to match them with the will, the values and the attitudes of the existing social actors. Any political strategy that aims at grand social change has to deal with this sociological reality. On the contrary, degrowth is premised upon the paradigm of “reflexive modernization”, it is rooted in an old modern pattern of subjectivity; it even requires its duplication. A model that has disappeared from the social scene. Degrowth proposal must walk on the shoulders of other subjects. It is necessary to uproot the voluntarist hegemony inside the degrowth movement and then to rebuild degrowth as a “political” alternative. The Mediterranean may represent today an important place for experimentation of this option. The Arab uprisings and the general crisis of the South European countries suggest that the region becomes more and more peripheral and that it is not able to hold on the growth run. Mediterranean countries do not hold competitive advantages in the international arena. But the subjects of change are not the young people who protested in the streets of Arab towns. They are the people who voted for moderate Islamic forces. Beyond the religious frame, they express the will for protection, they refuse market anomic competition and they claim to restore the social control over economic ties. Those who care about creating an alternative degrowth future need to assume a leading role, and put in the political arena a model of protection that places the preservation of the natural balance (and hence degrowth) at its centre, as well as the self-institution of society, that is the return of collective sovereignty.

Abstract: In età moderna, le vicende che portano alla definizione dello statuto della razionalità, non a caso significativamente definita hard reason, hanno privilegiato un approccio in grado di espungere ogni elemento che non fosse al tempo stesso formale e disincarnato. La dialettica tra fatticità ed eidetica, conclusasi con un forte sbilanciamento della seconda sulla prima istanza, consegna dunque un modello di una razionalità che risulta tanto più autorevole quanto più riesce a preservarsi pura da ogni contaminazione. In sede critica, va rilevato che una tale dinamica di fatto accantona dimensioni essenziali dell’umano, riservando loro una valenza secondaria solo per il fatto di non riuscire a tener conto del paradigma costitutivo della razionalità moderna. Uno di questi aspetti è costituito dall’atto intuitivo, che difficilmente assurge a tema filosoficamente rilevante, quando riesce a liberarsi dal pregiudizio che vede in esso una componente minore se non addirittura magica o esoterica. Uno dei luoghi più interessanti in cui il tema della intuizione e della fiducia vengono discussi è dato dalle numerose note che il filosofo francese Denis Diderot dedica alla figura del genio. La definizione di genio di Diderot diviene pertanto una sorta di case study dalla cui disanima emergono interessanti declinazioni di quella facoltà patica che, vedendo nell’intuizione e nella fiducia alcune delle sue più rilevanti declinazioni, contribuisce ipso facto ad una risemantizzazione della idea stessa di razionalità.

Abstract: The problem of determining the number and the locations of "small" metallic spheres from scattered far-field measurements under plane waves incidence is considered. The problem is formulated by neglecting the mutual scattering between the spheres and by representing their locations as the support of delta-functions. This allows to cast the problem as the inversion of a linear integral operator we tackle by means of a Truncated Singular Value Decomposition. The performance of the inversion scheme are analyzed for both the cases of a multi- view/single-frequency and a single-view/multi-frequency configuration by exploiting synthetic exact data.

Abstract: The sampling approach for radiated fields has been proved effective in reducing to a minimum the number of information required for the field reconstruction in a prescribed angular range. Moreover the pseudo sampling series, which represents the fields both in the far and in the near zone, can be introduced. In this paper a pseudo sampling based near field-far field transformation technique is presented and its properties are shown. The influence on the reconstructed far field pattern of the probe positioning and the measurement errors is considered as well. In this way a relevant reduction in the number of measurements can be achieved with respect to the already existing techniques.

34. Radiochemistry and Complex Formation of the Cyclen-Derived Chelator DOTI-Me with Mn 2+ , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ , Ga 3+ , In 3+ , Tb 3+ , and Lu 3 .

Abstract: In this work, we describe the complex formation and radiochemistry of the cyclen-based chelator DOTI-Me bearing four methylimidazole arms. Radiolabeling properties were evaluated for 52g Mn, 64 Cu, 68 Ga, 111 In, 161 Tb, and 177 Lu, and DOTI-Me showed distinct differences to the structurally related H 4 DOTA. While radiochemical conversions (RCCs) for 52g Mn and 111 In were comparable to those of H 4 DOTA, DOTI-Me was not suited for 68 Ga. Conversely, quantitative RCCs were achieved for 64 Cu at ambient temperature, while elevated temperatures were required for complexation with H 4 DOTA. For 161 Tb and 177 Lu, good but not quantitative RCCs were obtained with DOTI-Me. With the exemption of 68 Ga 3+ , radiolabeled complexes showed high stability in ligand challenge experiments and in human serum. X-ray analysis of the nonradioactive complexes revealed the formation of 8-coordinate Mn 2+ and In 3+ DOTI-Me complexes. Cu 2+ adopted a unique distorted square-pyramidal 2 + 3 with the neutral DOTI-Me ligand and a Jahn-Teller distorted 4 + 2 coordination geometry for the diprotonated H 2 DOTI-Me 2+ cation, respectively. For Zn 2+ , the complex with HDOTI-Me + showed a distorted 4 + 3 pentagonal bipyramidal geometry. Summarizing, the ligand DOTI-Me may be an interesting alternative to H 4 DOTA for 52g Mn, 64 Cu, 111 In, 161 Tb, and 177 Lu, covering diagnostic as well as therapeutic radionuclides. Further studies of targeted radiopharmaceuticals based on the DOTI-Me scaffold in combination with the set of radiometals presented herein are thus warranted.

36. Lactone Enolates of Isochroman-3-ones and 2-Coumaranones: Quantification of Their Nucleophilicity in DMSO and Conjugate Additions to Chalcones.

Abstract: Owing to stereoelectronic effects, lactones often deviate in reactivity from their open-chain ester analogues as demonstrated by the CH acidity (in DMSO) of 3-isochromanone (p K a = 18.8) and 2-coumaranone (p K a = 13.5), which is higher than that of ethyl phenylacetate (p K a = 22.6). We have now characterized the reactivity of the lactone enolates derived from 3-isochromanone and 2-coumaranone by following the kinetics of their Michael reactions with p -quinone methides and arylidenemalonates (reference electrophiles) in DMSO at 20 °C. Evaluation of the experimentally determined second-order rate constants k 2 by the Mayr-Patz equation, lg k 2 = s N ( N + E ), furnished the nucleophilicity parameters N (and s N ) of the lactone enolates. By localizing their position on the Mayr nucleophilicity scale, the scope of their electrophilic reaction partners becomes predictable, and we demonstrate a novel catalytic methodology for a series of carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions of lactone enolates with chalcones under phase transfer conditions in toluene.

Abstract: This work describes the self-assembly behavior of heterochiral, aliphatic dipeptides, l-Leu-d-Xaa (Xaa = Ala, Val, Ile, Leu), in green solvents such as acetonitrile (MeCN) and buffered water at neutral pH. Interestingly, water plays a structuring role because at 1% v/v, it enables dipeptide self-assembly in MeCN to yield organogels, which then undergo transition towards crystals. Other organic solvents and oils were tested for gelation, and metastable gels were formed in tetrahydrofuran, although at high peptide concentration (80 mM). Abstract: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a common medical imaging technique that provides three-dimensional body images. MRI contrast agents improve image contrast by raising the rate of water proton relaxation in specific tissues. Peptides and peptidomimetics act as scaffolds for MRI imaging agents because of their increased size and offer the possibility to engine a higher hydration value within the design. The design of a new Gd-based contrast agent must take into account high stability constants to avoid free Gd(III), with the subsequent nephrotoxicity, and high relaxivity values. This review analyzes various synthetic approaches, reports studies of relaxometric parameters, and focuses on the description and application of Gd(III)-chelates based on peptide and peptidomimetic scaffolds. 40. Emerging role of carbonyl-carbonyl interactions in the classification of beta turns.

Abstract: Carbonyl-carbonyl interactions in peptides and proteins attracted considerable interest in recent years. Here, we report a survey of carbonyl-carbonyl interactions in cyclic peptides, depsipeptides, peptoids and discuss the relationship between backbone torsion angles and CO∙∙∙CO distances. In general, φ values in the range between -40° and -90° and between 40° and 90° correspond to CO∙∙∙CO distances below 3.22 Å. By extending the analysis of carbonyl-carbonyl interactions in different types of beta turns in proteins, we also highlight the role of direct or reciprocal carbonyl-carbonyl interactions in stabilizing the beta turn conformation for each specific type. We confirmed the new type II beta turn, detected by Dunbrack and coworkers, and named Pa, and detect the presence of a direct carbonyl-carbonyl interaction between the second and third residues of the turn. We also evidenced the existence of another new type II beta turn, named pA (following Dunbrack's notation), which represents the alternative conformation of Pa with opposite φ and ψ values and is characterized by a direct carbonyl-carbonyl interaction between the second and third residues of the turn. Abstract: The investigation of the reactivity of an α-amido sulfone derived from 2-formyl benzoate under organocatalytic conditions in the presence of acetylacetone allowed the synthesis of a new heterocyclic hybrid isoindolinone-pyrazole with high enantiomeric excess. Dibenzylamine was also used as a nucleophile to afford an isoindolinone with aminal substituent in 3-position in suitable selectivity. The use of Takemoto's bifunctional organocatalyst not only led to observed enantioselectivity but was also important in accomplishing the cyclization step in both cases. Notably, this catalytic system proved to be particularly effective in comparison to widely used phase transfer catalysts.

Abstract: There is an increasing interest towards the development of new antimicrobial coatings, especially in light of the emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) towards common antibiotics. Cyclodipeptides (CDPs) or diketopiperazines (DKPs) are attractive candidates for their ability to self-assemble into supramolecular polymers and yield gel coatings that do not persist in the environment. In this work, we compare the antimicrobial cyclo(Leu-Phe) with its heterochiral analogs cyclo(D-Leu-L-Phe) and cyclo(L-Leu-D-Phe), as well as cyclo(L-Phe-D-Phe), for their ability to gel. The compounds were synthesized, purified by HPLC, and characterized by 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, and ESI-MS. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed details of the intermolecular interactions within the supramolecular polymers. The DKPs were then tested for their cytocompatibility on fibroblast cells and for their antimicrobial activity on S. aureus . Overall, DKPs displayed good cytocompatibility and very mild antimicrobial activity, which requires improvement towards applications.

44. Cyclodipeptides: From Their Green Synthesis to Anti-Age Activity.

Abstract: Cyclodipeptides (CDPs) or diketopiperazines (DKPs) are often found in nature and in foodstuff and beverages and have attracted great interest for their bioactivities, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. In the laboratory, they can be prepared by green procedures, such as microwave-assisted cyclization of linear dipeptides in water, as performed in this study. In particular, five CDPs were prepared and characterized by a variety of methods, including NMR and ESI-MS spectroscopies and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), and their cytocompatibility and anti-aging activity was tested in vitro, as well as their ability to penetrate the different layers of the skin. Abstract: Dipeptides are convenient building blocks for supramolecular gel biomaterials that can be produced on a large scale at low cost and do not persist in the environment. In the case of unprotected sequences, hydrophobicity is a key requirement to enable gelation, with Phe-Phe standing out for its self-assembling ability. Conversely, more hydrophilic sequences such as homochiral dipeptides Phe-Val and Val-Phe neither fibrillate nor gel aqueous buffers and their crystal structures reveal amphipathic layers. In this work, we test emerging rules for the design of self-assembling dipeptides using heterochiral Phe-Val and Val-Phe. Each dipeptide is characterized by 1 H- and 13 C-NMR, LC-MS, circular dichroism, infrared and Raman spectroscopies, rheology, electron microscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In particular, D-Phe-L-Val is the first heterochiral dipeptide to self-assemble into supramolecular water-channels whose cavity is defined by four peptide molecules arranged head-to-tail. This minimalistic sequence is devoid of amyloid character as probed by thioflavin T fluorescence and it displays excellent biocompatibility in vitro . The dataset provided, through comparison with the literature, significantly advances the definition of molecular design rules for minimalistic unprotected dipeptides that self-assemble into water-channels and biocompatible gels, to assist with the future development of supramolecular biomaterials with fine control over nanomorphological features for a variety of applications.

46. Asymmetric Cascade Aza-Henry/Lactamization Reaction in the Highly Enantioselective Organocatalytic Synthesis of 3-(Nitromethyl)isoindolin-1-ones from α-Amido Sulfones.

Abstract: The asymmetric synthesis of novel 3-substituted isoindolinones is herein reported. A new cascade reaction was developed that consisted of the asymmetric nitro-Mannich reaction of suitable α-amido sulfones designed from 2-formyl benzoates, followed by the in situ cyclization of the adducts. Very high enantioselectivities, up to 98% ee, and very good yields were obtained in the presence of the readily available neutral bifunctional organocatalyst derived from trans -1,2-diaminocyclohexane, which is known as Takemoto's catalyst. The investigation of the reactivity of the obtained products allowed either the selective Boc-deprotection or reduction of the nitro group, leading to further functionalized 3-substituted isoindolinones without affecting the enantiomeric purity.

47. Right- and left-handed PPI helices in cyclic dodecapeptoids.

Abstract: Enantiomorphic right- and left-handed polyproline type I helices in four cyclic dodecapeptoids with methoxyethyl and propargyl side chains are observed for the first time by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The peculiar absence of NH⋯OC hydrogen bonds in peptoids unveils the role of intramolecular backbone-to-backbone CO⋯CO interactions and CH⋯OC hydrogen bonds in the stabilization of the macrocycle conformation. Moreover, intramolecular backbone-side chain C5 CH⋯OC hydrogen bonds emerge as a stabilizing factor.

48. Base-Promoted Cascade Reactions for the Synthesis of 3,3-Dialkylated Isoindolin-1-ones and 3-Methyleneisoindolin-1-ones.

Abstract: Cascade reactions of ortho -carbonyl-substituted benzonitriles with ((chloromethyl)sulfonyl)benzenes as pronucleophiles led to new isoindolin-1-ones with a tetrasubstituted C-3 position or to ( Z )-3-(sulfonyl-methylene)isoindolin-1-ones. The reactions start from readily available materials, are carried out under mild conditions, and do not require metal catalysis. Promoted only by the cheap and environmentally benign K 2 CO 3 as the base, up to six elemental steps can be combined in a single pot. Hence, a sequential one-pot cascade/β-elimination/alkylation furnished useful intermediates for the synthesis of aristolactam natural products. The observed selectivity and the mechanism were investigated by DFT studies.

49. Solid-State Conformational Flexibility at Work: Energetic Landscape of a Single Crystal-to-Single Crystal Transformation in a Cyclic Hexapeptoid.

Abstract: We describe the energetic landscape beyond the solid-state dynamic behavior of a cyclic hexapeptoid decorated with four propargyl and two methoxyethyl side chains, namely, cyclo - (Nme-Npa 2 ) 2 , Nme = N -(methoxyethyl)glycine, Npa = N -(propargyl)glycine. By increasing the temperature above 40 °C, the acetonitrile solvate form 1A starts to release acetonitrile molecules and undergoes a reversible single crystal-to-single crystal transformation into crystal form 1B with a remarkable conformational change in the macrocycle: two propargyl side chains move by 113° to form an unprecedented "CH-π zipper". Then, upon acetonitrile adsorption, the "CH-π zipper" opens and the crystal form 1B transforms back to 1A . By conformational energy and lattice energy calculations, we demonstrate that the dramatic side-chain movement is a peculiar feature of the solid-state assembly and is determined by a backbone conformational change that leads to stabilizing CH···OC backbone-to-backbone interactions tightening the framework upon acetonitrile release. Weak interactions as CH···OC and CH-π bonds with the guest molecules are able to reverse the transformation, providing the energy contribution to unzip the framework. We believe that the underlined mechanism could be used as a model system to understand how external stimuli (as temperature, humidity, or volatile compounds) could determine conformational changes in the solid state., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing financial interest., (© 2021 American Chemical Society.)

50. Propyne Gas Adsorption in a Cyclic Hexapeptoid: A Combined In Situ XRPD and DFTB Study*.

Abstract: Cyclic peptoids are macrocyclic N-substituted oligoglycines, with remarkable structural, chemical and physical properties. The gas adsorption properties of a permanently porous hexameric cyclopeptoid decorated with four propargyl and two methoxyethyl side chains were monitored by in situ X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). High-resolution XRPD data together with Rietveld and density functional based tight binding (DFTB) method allowed us to locate propyne guest molecules inside the host channels, even though the powder sample contains more than one phase. We were able to characterize the host-guest interactions, providing useful information on the host recognition sites and discuss host adaptiveness and host-guest chemical affinity in comparison with analogous compounds., (© 2020 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)
