This article considers the technical, technological, and archival aspects of the study of Old Believer carved works of art (icons and crosses) of the Lower Pechora, whose origin is associated with the Velikopozhensky Monastery on the Pizhma River (currently, Ust-Tsilma District of the Komi Republic). The reason for the study is the hypothesis about the local origin of the ochre used for painting the icons, as there are rich deposits in the vicinity of the village of Skitskaya (on the site of the former Velikopozhensky Skete). According to written sources, they were developed until the first quarter of the twentieth century. The article describes the methods of studying the composition of ochre samples from deposits in the vicinity of the village of Skitskaya, the colours of The Cross of Golgotha, a Velikopozhensky carved icon from the collection of the National Gallery of the Komi Republic (Syktyvkar). Also, the authors speak about the palette of F. O. Anshukov, a hereditary Old Believer spoon maker from the village of Skitskaya, research results, and their correlation with data from written sources. The study demonstrates that the white and other pigments of The Cross of Golgotha icon contain white lead. The red pigment is minium. The blue pigment corresponds to the composition of Prussian blue. Natural pigments (caput mortuum, ochre) are not used. In the spoon maker’s palette, red, brown, and blue pigments are mixed with lead white with an admixture of quartz, barite, and gypsum. Minium was used as a red pigment. The composition of the blue pigment corresponds to Prussian blue. The white paint in the palette is zinc white. The green paint was replaced with zinc white with an arsenic-containing pigment (Scheele’s green?). The brown paint contains iron oxides, which suggests the natural origin of the pigment (caput mortuum). The results of the research testify that in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the inhabitants of the Velikopozhensky Skete and their descendants, masters of “Pyzhem painting” on wood, used mainly imported pigments of artificial origin., Статья посвящена технико-технологическим и архивным аспектам исследования старообрядческой резной пластики (икон и крестов) Нижней Печоры, происхождение которой связывается с Великопоженским скитом на р. Пижма (современный Усть-Цилемский район Республики Коми). Поводом к исследованию послужила первоначальная гипотеза о местном происхождении использованных в окраске икон охр, богатые месторождения которых в окрестностях деревни Скитской (на месте бывшего Великопоженского скита), по данным письменных источников, разрабатывались до первой четверти XX столетия. Описываются методы проведенного исследования состава образцов охры из месторождений в окрестностях д. Скитская, красок великопоженской резной иконы «Крест Голгофский» из собрания Национальной галереи Республики Коми (Сыктывкар), а также с палитры потомственного старообрядческого мастера-ложечника Ф. О. Аншукова из д. Скитская, результаты исследований и их корреляция с данными письменных источников. Установлено, что в составе белого и других пигментов с иконы «Крест Голгофский» присутствуют свинцовые белила. В качестве красного пигмента использован сурик. Синий пигмент отвечает составу берлинской лазури. Природные пигменты (мумия, охры) не использованы. В палитре ложечника краски красного, коричневого и синего цветов замешивались на свинцовых белилах с примесями кварца, барита и гипса. В качестве красного пигмента использован сурик. Состав синего пигмента соответствует берлинской лазури. Белая краска в палитре представлена цинковыми белилами. Зеленая краска замещена на цинковых белилах с мышьяксодержащим пигментом (шееловая зелень?). Краска коричневого цвета содержит окислы железа, что позволяет говорить о природном происхождении пигмента (мумии). Результаты исследований в совокупности с данными письменных источников свидетельствуют о том, что в XVIII–XIX вв. насельники Великопоженского скита и их потомки, мастера «пижемской росписи» по дереву, использовали преимущественно привозные красочные пигменты искусственного происхождения.

This article is dedicated to the problem of attributing the publications of illegal Old Believer printers in the second half of the nineteenth century: such publications do not have bibliographical data or have false information about the place of publication. At the centre of the author's attention is the largest and longest-running printing company in the Old Believer market that belonged to the brothers Ovchinnikov. For publications from the eighteenth to the early nineteenth centuries, the main element which allows us to attribute a book to this or that printer is decoration; however, this criterion is insufficient for books from the second half of the nineteenth century. Old Believer merchants were publishers of books in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries; they placed their orders in rather large printing companies with an established set of decorations. Even in the printers they started at the end of the eighteenth century, they followed the tradition of using individual and distinctive ornamentation. In the second half of the nineteenth century, peasants or townsmen were publishers of books. Lacking sufficient funds and due to the illegal character of their activities, their printers were small and mobile, and they printed books on cheap paper in order to lower production costs. With only rare exceptions, the decoration of such books was not rich: either it was absent in general or there were only typeset decorations. If they did have headpieces, different printers used the same models. As such, ornamentation cannot be used as a universal indicator for attributing these publications, although it can be part of a set of such indicators. Fonts play the main role in defining an edition, but it is necessary to create a reference guide of fonts if this indicator is to be used practically. This article reflects the results of an analysis of fonts and decorative elements in publications from the Ovchinnikov printer. Very many such publications used a great variety of fonts simultaneously. According to indirect data, the books date from the 1860s. They might initially be taken for sammelbände since the type of paper changes along with the fonts. However, the integrity of the text during the transition from one font type to the next undermines this assumption. The article poses the question of how to explain the peculiarities of such publications. There is no one-dimensional answer. However, the author makes some suggestions: it is possible that at some point the printer was dispersed, with several printing presses placed in different houses. When a comparatively large volume was produced, the material was shared out and printed on these separate presses. However, this hypothesis provokes the question: why do blocks of text printed in one font not follow each other in sequence? This article describes Old Believer polemics about sacrifice via selfimmolation and other forms of ‘self-inflicted death’ between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. The main object of condemnation by the Russian state and church authorities was the Old Believer system of sacralising one’s own sufferings (the creation and distribution of related narratives, appeals to popular religiosity, and the veneration of new martyrs). The author examines Old Believer writings and decrees, admonitions, and texts created by the authorities as parts of one discursive field and concludes that rational methods for combating Old Believer martyrs were consolidated in the Petrine era at the conceptual level in order to preserve the taxable population. Feofan (Prokopovich) offered the most original explanation for the widespread Old Believer veneration of new martyrs by interpreting it as bliss at being ‘persecuted for righteousness’ (1722): this interpretation was the basis for his admonition On the Invalidity of Unauthorised Suffering. The active disciplinary intervention of the authorities in the sacrificial discourse and the misinterpretation of selfsacrifice that spread among the Old Believers led their leaders to speak of piety as an indispensable condition for salvation. The desire of various participants in the discourse to speak on this topic generated, if not to a specific “language”, then a whole set of experiences embodied in genetically different rhetoric. Описывается полемика о старообрядческой жертвенности конца XVII – начала XVIII в., вызванная многочисленными случаями самосожжений и других вариантов «самогубительной смерти». Основным объектом обличений со стороны российской государственной и церковной власти была система сакрализации староверами собственных страданий: создание и распространение соответствующих нарративов, апелляция к народной религиозности и почитание новомучеников. Рассматривая разножанровые старообрядческие сочинения и созданные властью постановления, увещания и другие тексты, предназначенные для всенародного внимания, как части одного дискурсивного поля, автор приходит к выводу о закреплении в Петровскую эпоху рациональных методов борьбы со старообрядческими мучениками на понятийном уровне в рамках курса на сбережение податного населения. Наиболее оригинальные объяснения «бума» почитания старообрядцами новомучеников были предложены Феофаном Прокоповичем в толковании на блаженство изгнанных «правды ради» (1722), послужившем основой увещания «О недействительности самовольного страдания». Активное дисциплинарное вмешательство власти в жертвенный дискурс и превратное толкование самопожертвования, распространявшееся среди староверов, заставляли их лидеров высказываться о благочестии как непременном условии спасения. Стремление разных участников дискурса высказываться на эту тему породило если не особый язык, то целый набор переживаний, воплощенных в генетически различной риторике. This article is dedicated to the formation of local centres of Old Belief in Glazov district, Vyatka Province. The author notes that movement in search of more beneficial living conditions was a constant throughout Old Belief’s existence. The intersection of multidirectional, diachronic migration streams defined the regional characteristics of Old Belief, in many ways influencing the compact form of Old Believer settlement that developed in the course of their transit. The article analyses the formation of several local centres of Old Belief in Glazov. During their flight from the centre in Kerzhenets in the first quarter of the eighteenth century, Old Believers fled as far as possible from the central authorities to the Ural forests: this played an important role in the development of Vyatka Old Belief. Some of them settled along the roads, establishing new settlements and sketes amidst the private factories then being created in the Ural regions. To a considerable extent, migrant routes crossed the territory that, at the end of the eighteenth century, became Vyatka province. On the basis of documents published by the Ural researcher N. S. Korepanov, the article identifies settlements created by the Old Believers in Verkhokamye, where representatives of the Pomortsy concord were dominant. To the west of this region, in the south of Glazov district, Filippovtsy communities formed: the establishment of a spiritual hierarchy there was connected with communities in Nizhny Novgorod province. Also considered is the unfolding of Beglopopovtsy centres. One of these was located in the northeast of the district, while the other was in the southwest. On the basis of the analysis of archival documents, the article’s author explains why contradictory information has arisen in the scholarly literature about the concord to which the Old Believers of the Omutninsk factory belonged, considers the history of the largest Beglopopovtsy chapels in the Porez area, and focuses on the personalities of the Old Believer leadership in this territory. As a result of this analysis, the author concludes that by the last quarter of the nineteenth century, Old Believer migration had essentially ceased. Changes in state policy towards Old Belief had created the conditions for the latter to enjoy a more peaceful existence., Статья посвящена проблеме формирования локальных центров старообрядчества на примере Глазовского уезда Вятской губернии. Автор отмечает, что передвижение в поисках более благоприятных условий выживания стало постоянным элементом существования староверия. Пересечение разнонаправленных и наложение разновременных потоков определяет региональное своеобразие истории старообрядчества, которое во многом влияло на особенности развития регионов компактного его проживания, сформированных оседанием староверов в ходе их транзита. В статье проанализированы процессы образования нескольких локальных центров глазовского старообрядчества. Важную роль в формировании вятского старообрядчества сыграл разгром в первой четверти XVIII в. керженского центра, сложившегося в Поволжье еще во второй половине XVII в. С Керженца старообрядцы уходили как можно дальше от центральных властей в приуральские, уральские, зауральские леса. Некоторые из них оседали по дороге, основывая новые поселения, скиты, устраивались на возводившихся в Уральском регионе частных заводах. Маршруты мигрантов в значительной части пролегали через территорию, которая к концу XVIII в. оформилась как Вятская губерния. На основании документов, опубликованных уральским исследователем Н. С. Корепановым, автором статьи выявлены поселения, образованные старообрядцами в Верхокамье, где доминировали представители поморского направления (согласия). Западнее этого региона, на юге Глазовского уезда сложились общины филипповского согласия, в которых формирование духовной иерархии было связано с общинами Нижегородской губернии. Также рассмотрено складывание беглопоповских центров. Один из них находился на северо-востоке уезда, второй — на юго-западе. Автор статьи на основе анализа архивных источников объясняет причины появления в научной литературе противоречивых сведений о течении, к которому принадлежали старообрядцы Омутнинского завода, рассматривает историю крупнейших часовен беглопоповцев в Порезской волости, акцентирует внимание на персоналиях лидеров старообрядчества этой территории. В результате анализа материала источников автор приходит к выводу, что к концу третий четверти XIX в. процесс миграции старообрядцев практически остановился. Изменения государственной политики по отношению к старообрядчеству постепенно создавали условия для его более спокойного существования.

This article considers The Genealogy of Orthodox Monastic Tonsure compiled by Severodvinsk scribe Stefan Frolov. There are three extant manuscripts of the work. One of them is part of the collection of council resolutions, polemic letters, and other works by Old Believers of the Filippovtsy concord (F19-331) acquired by the manuscript collection of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 2018.The aim of the work is to provide a critical edition of the text and illustrate its structural peculiarities and those of its content, the specifics of the two versions and the principles of the author’s and the editor’s work. The material of the work is made up by three manuscripts of The Genealogy of Orthodox Monastic Tonsure kept in St Petersburg and Vilnius as well as manuscripts and their digital copies connected with the work in question. The author employs comparative, textological, descriptive, and other research methods.The study demonstrates that The Genealogy compiled by Stefan Frolov in 1879 describes two directions of monastic tonsure, i.e. one starting with bishop Pavel Kolomensky and the other originated by a monk from the Sevastyanov family. The initial part of The Genealogy is semi-legendary, as despite the fact that the text mentions real Old Believer figures, it is full of chronological discrepancies. There are two versions of The Genealogy, i.e. a draft authored by Frolov and bearing his autograph and a fair copy written three or four years later, after Frolov’s death, by an anonymous scribe supposedly in Moscow, at the Moscow Bratsky Dvor. The comparison of the two versions demonstrates that the editing of Frolov’s text followed two directions. First, the editor eliminated and abridged particular “private” information on certain monks, and, second, corrected (specified) their names or those of whole groups., В статье анализируется «Родословие православнаго иноческаго пострижения…», составленное в 1879 г. северодвинским книжником Стефаном Фроловым. Сочинение сохранилось в трех списках. Один из списков входит в состав сборника соборных постановлений, полемических писем и других сочинений староверов-­филипповцев (F19-331), которым осенью 2018 г. пополнилось рукописное собрание Библиотеки им. Врублевских АН Литвы.Цель настоящей работы — представить критическое издание текста памятника, а также показать его структурные особенности, своеобразие состава, отличительные черты двух редакций и принципы работы автора и редактора родословия. Материалом для исследования послужили три списка «Родословия православнаго иноческаго пострижения…», хранящиеся в Санкт-Петербурге и Вильнюсе, а также рукописи или их цифровые копии, связанные с данным сочинением. В работе использованы сравнительный, текстологический, описательный и другие методы исследования.Исследование показало, что в «Родословии», составленном Стефаном Фроловым в 1879 г., представлены две линии иноческого пострижения: первая начинается от еп. Павла Коломенского, родоначальником второй был некий инок из рода Севастьяновых. Начальная часть родословия носит полулегендарный характер, поскольку хотя в тексте и упоминаются реальные старообрядческие деятели, в нем отмечается целый ряд хронологических неувязок. Анализируемое родословие сохранилось в двух редакциях: черновой авторской (автограф Фролова) и беловой, выполненной три-четыре года спустя (уже после смерти Фролова) неизвестным книжником, предположительно в Москве на Братском дворе. Сравнение этих двух редакций показывает, что редактирование текста Фролова шло по двум направлениям: 1) сокращение и удаление слишком конкретной «личной» информации того или иного инока; 2) исправление (уточнение) имен пострижеников или даже их цепочек.

This article analyses Old Believer letters from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries containing requests for financial or other assistance and expressing gratitude for it. The letters originate from various Old Believer settlements (sketes and hermitages) in Northern Russia. The author mostly focuses on letters from the Vyg and Leksa community, the largest Old Believer centre of Russia between the eighteenth and the first half of the nineteenth centuries. The letters are analysed both as historical sources and literary works. They are of historical value because they contain information on little-known Old Believer hermitages, the number of monks in them, and the connection of the hermitages with other centres of Old Belief. The letters contain Old Believer writers’ names and autographs. This means that samples of their handwriting can be used to attribute anonymous manuscripts. Letters of request were part of record books that the representatives of Old Believer hermitages took with them when they went to collect donations. The article cites persecution of this activity by the authorities. Also, it considers the literary aspect of the letters, for instance, how the authors used quotations on mercy and compassion from biblical and patristic texts and how they applied the form of the parable and employed a self-deprecating vocabulary. The author concludes that the Vyg Old Believer letters fully correspond to the principles of the Vyg rhetorical school. Анализируются старообрядческие письма XVIII–XIX вв., содержащие просьбы об оказании денежной или иной помощи и благодарения за нее. Материалом служат несколько десятков писем из различных севернорусских старообрядческих поселений (скитов и пустыней). Основное внимание уделяется письмам из Выго-Лексинского общежительства – крупнейшего в России старообрядческого центра XVIII – первой половины XIX в. Письма анализируются и как исторические источники, и как литературные памятники. Историческая ценность писем заключается в том, что они дают важную информацию о малоизвестных старообрядческих пустынях, количестве насельников в них, о связи этих поселений с другими центрами староверия. Письма сохранили имена старообрядческих настоятелей и их автографы – образцы почерков, которые могут быть использованы при атрибуции анонимных рукописей. Просительные письма включались в состав сборных книжек, с которыми старообрядческие пустыни отправляли своих представителей за милостыней и в которые заносились записи о пожертвованиях. В статье приводятся сведения о преследовании властями этой деятельности старообрядцев по сбору милостыни. Исследована также литературная основа писем: использование авторами библейских и святоотеческих цитат о нищелюбии и милосердии, притчевой формы, самоуничижительной лексики и т. д. Сделан вывод о том, что в письмах, составленных старообрядцами Выга, в полной мере воплотились принципы выговской литературной риторической школы. Финансовое обеспечение исследования осуществлялось из средств федерального бюджета на выполнение государственного задания Карельского научного центра РАН.

Анализируется история единоверческого прихода, открытого в Еланской волости Тюкалинского уезда Тобольской губернии в начале XX в. Рассматриваются ранее не известные архивные документы, хранящиеся в Государственном архиве Омской области, раскрывающие особенности внутренней жизни самого молодого в Западной Сибири единоверческого прихода. В рассматриваемый исторический период его территория находилась на стыке Тобольской и Томской губерний и епархий, в условиях этноконфессиональной чересполосицы. Рассматриваются взаимоотношения православных, единоверцев и старообрядцев. Теоретическое значение изучения этой проблемы актуально в условиях возрождения старообрядных приходов в рамках Русской православной церкви. Практическая значимость исследования определяется высоким интересом россиян и жителей других стран к выявлению своих предков, составлению родословных и историй семей. Основное внимание в работе уделено анализу метрических книг данного прихода, сравнению задач существования единоверия и реальной практики на примере конкретного прихода. Представленные факты и выводы являются частью уже проведенной авторами работы по интеграции данных единоверческих, православных и иудейских метрических книг, относящихся к территории Еланской волости.

The purpose of this study is to present the religious life of the Old Believers in the Ekaterinoslav diocese of at the beginning of the 20th century and analyze the specific nature of the Orthodox mission activities in their midst. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, consistency, author’s objectivity, as well as on general scientific (analysis, synthesis, concretization, generalization) and special historical (problem-chronological, historical-genetic, historical-typological) methods. The problem-chronological method has been employed to analyze the religious life of the Old Belief communities in the Ekaterinoslav diocese and reveal the religious policy of the official Orthodox Church towards the Old Believers in the specified period. The historical-genetic method has been applied to analyze the transformations of the Old Belief in the Ekaterinoslav diocese and examine the confessional policy of the Orthodox Church. The historical-typological method has been adopted to study the internal separation and conflicts in the Old Belief of the Ekaterinoslav diocese and consider the forms of religious policy implementation. The scientific novelty of the undertaken researchlies in the fact that for the first time the internal distribution of the Old Belief in the Ekaterinoslav diocese has been comprehensively studied, the course of the conflict between the okruzhniki and the neokruzhniki has been disclosed, the forms and methods of missionary activity of the official Orthodox Church have been presented. Conclusions. At the beginning of the 20th century, 10 000 Old Believers lived in the Ekaterinoslav diocese. The popovtsy represented the overwhelming majority; the neokruzhniki, the bespopovtsy, and the beglopopovtsy were made up groups. The relations with priests, whose actions provoked indignation among the parish, caused the internal conflicts in the communities. The case of the priest S. Tokarev gained special publicity. The conflict was acute in popovshchina, between the okruzhniki and the neokruzhniki, that gradually began to decline after the act of reconciliation in 1906. On the way to reconciliation, the community of the okruzhniki faced an alleged provocation against Archbishop Ioann. The «fight» against the Old Believers remained the priority in the activities of the Orthodox missionary. The diocesan missionaries were opposed both by the representatives of the clergy and the ordinary Old Believers, and the authorities, namely the Old Belief nachyotchiki K. Peretrukhin, V. Zelenkov, L. Pichugin, and others. Despite the high level of organization and activities of the missionary institute, the immediate success of the mission was limited, Celem badania jest odkrycie życia religijnego staroobrzędowców w diecezji Jekaterynosławskiej na początku XX wieku i przeanalizowanie specyfiki działań misji prawosławnej w ich środowisku. Metodologia opiera się na zasadach historyzmu, systematyczności, naukowości, autorskiego obiektywizmu, a także na zastosowaniu ogólnonaukowych metod (analiza, synteza, uogólnienie) i specjalno-historycznych metod (historyczno-typologicznych, historyczno-systemowych). Oryginalność naukowa polega na tym, że po raz pierwszy wszechstronnie ujawniono wewnętrzną dystrybucję staroobrzędowców z diecezji Jekaterynosławskiej, odzwierciedlono przebieg konfliktu między “okrużnikami” i “nieokrużnikami”, formy i metody działalności misyjnej. Wnioski. Na początku XX wieku w diecezji było 10000 staroobrzędowców, z których przeważająca większość należała do popowców-okrużników, a mniejsze były wspólnoty “nieokrużników”, “bezpopowców” i “biegłopopowców”. Podstawą wewnętrznych konfliktów we wspólnotach były stosunki z kapłanami, którzy swoimi czynami wywołali oburzenie wśród parafian. Sprawa księdza S. Tokariewa zyskała szczególny rozgłos. Konflikt był ostry w duchowieństwie, między “okrużnikami” i “nieokrużnikami”, który stopniowo zaczął iść na spadek po ukazie tolerancyjnym w 1906 r. Po drodze do zgody partia “okrużników” spotkała się z natchnioną prowokacją przeciwko arcybiskupowi Janowi. “Walka” ze staroobrzędowcami była jednym z priorytetowych zadań instytutu prawosławnego misjonarstwa. Oponentami diecezjalnych misjonarzy zostali zarówno przedstawiciele duchowieństwa i zwyczajni staroobrzędowcy, tak i autorytety - staroobrzędowi dogmatycy K. Peretruchin, W. Zelenkow, L. Piczugin i inni. Pomimo wysokiego poziomu organizacji i dzałania instytutu misjonarstwa, bezpośredni sukces misji był ograniczony, Мета дослідження – висвітлити релігійне життя старообрядців Катеринославської єпархії на початку ХХ ст. та проаналізувати специфіку діяльності православної місії в їх середовищі. Методологія дослідження ґрунтується на принципах історизму, системності, авторській об’єктивності, а також на використанні загальнонаукових (аналіз, синтез, конкретизації, узагальнення) і спеціально-історичних (проблемно-хронологічного, історико-генетичного, історико-типологічного) методів. Використання проблемно-хронологічного методу дозволило проаналізувати релігійне життя старообрядницьких громад Катеринославської єпархії, виявити особливості віросповідної політики правлячої православної церкви у відношенні до старообрядців в певних хронологічних рамках. Історико-генетичний метод застосовувався при аналізі трансформацій старообрядництва Катеринославської єпархії та конфесійної політики православної церкви. Історико-типологічний метод був важливий при вивченні внутрішнього розподілу та конфліктності в старообрядництві Катеринославської єпархії, а також використовувався при розгляді форм реалізації конфесійної політики. Наукова новизна полягає в тому, що вперше на маловідомих матеріалах єпархіальної періодики початку ХХ ст. комплексно розкрито внутрішній розподіл старообрядництва Катеринославської єпархії, протікання конфлікту між окружниками і неокружниками, розглянуто форми та методи місіонерської діяльності панівної православної церкви. Висновки. Встановлено, що на початку ХХ ст. в межах Катеринославської єпархії проживало близько 10000 старообрядців, з яких переважна частина належала до попівців-окружників, а значно меншими були громади неокружників, безпопівців та біглопопівців. Найвпливовішим центром старообрядців-окружників в Катеринославській єпархії було с. Городище, де вони складали більшість населення, а для безпопівців – с. Орєхово, для неокружников – с. Камєнскоє. Вагомого значення набув і духовний центр старообрядців Донбаського регіону – Преображенський скит. В основі внутрішніх конфліктів у громадах були стосунки зі священиками, які своїми вчинками викликали обурення у пастви. Особливого розголосу набула справа С. Токарева – священика старообрядців с. Орєхово, який з меркантильних поглядів вирішив перейти в православ’я. Досить гострим був конфлікт в поповщині, між окружниками та неокружниками, який поступово йшов на спад після акту примирення в 1906 р., хоча частина вірян, зокрема в с. Городище, його категорично не сприймала. Варто відмітити, що на шляху до примирення партія окружників у 1902 р. зіткнулася з інспірованою провокацією відносно їхнього Московського архієпископа Іоанна (Картушина), яку вдалося викрити саме завдяки увазі та непоступливості представника громади с. Городище, – М. Риндіна. «Боротьба» із старообрядництвом була одним з пріоритетних напрямів роботи інституту православного місіонерства в єпархії. Опонентами єпархіальних місіонерів ставали як представники місцевого духовенства та рядові старообрядці, так і визнані авторитети – старообрядницькі начотчики К. Перетрухін, В. Зеленков, Л. Пічугін та ін. Незважаючи на високий рівень організації та роботи інституту місіонерства, безпосередні успіхи місії були обмежені.

В статье представлено научное описание 6-ти книг поздней рукописной традиции XVIII–XX вв. библиотеки Екатеринбургской духовной семинарии. Согласно нашим наблюдениям, на выбор состава чтений отдельных рукописей большое влияние оказала старопечатная книга. Так, например, в конволют вплетены листы печатного Часослова сер. XVII в. и включены выписки из издания Киево-Печерского Патерика (1661 г.), Святцы XVIII в. полностью переписаны с издания 1680 г. типографии Киево-Печерской лавры, а Святцы XIX в. — с «дониконовского» издания 1648 г. Рукописные Святцы приблизительно датируются 1707 г. и 1891 г., согласно указанным в таблицах Миротворного ключа «от Адама» датам. Среди рукописей примечателен конволют — келейный сборник XVIII в., в котором, наряду с богослужебными текстами — канонами (Всемилостивому Спасу, о творящих милостыню, Одигитрии, иконам Богородицы: Владимирской, Казанской, Всех скорбящих Радость, на исход души), ирмосами Рождеству и Пасхальными песнопениями — широко представлена четья литература, объединенная темой покаяния («Житие прп. Стефана, игумена Печерскаго», «Послание епископа Симона Владимирского и Суздальского к иноку Поликарпу», «Житие великомученицы Параскевы», «Скитское покаяние», повесть «Троесложное умиление», выписки от «Старчества» и «Словес душеполезных свв. отец»). Конволют был переплетен в конце XIX в., однако как сборник был сформирован на столетие раньше, согласно датировке входящих в него рукописных тетрадей, относящихся приблизительно к одному времени. Представлено описание сборника сочинений, важных для истории и идеологии старообрядцев часовенного согласия, распространенного на Урале и в Сибири., The article provides a scientific description of 6 books of late handwritten tradition of the 18th–20th centuries contained in the library of the Ekaterinburg Theological Seminary. According to observations of the authors, the early printed book had a great influence on a choice of the composition of texts of individual manuscripts. For example, the pamphlet volume includes sheets of the printed Book of Hours of the mid-17th century as well as extracts from the edition of the Kiev-Pechersk Paterikon (of 1661); Church calendar of the 18th century is copied from the 1680 edition of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra printing house, and the 19th century calendar — from the “pre-Nikon” edition of 1648. The handwritten Church calendar is dated approximately from 1707 and 1891, according to the dates indicated in the tables of the Peacekeeping Key “from Adam”. Notable among the manuscripts is the pamphlet volume which presents a private compendium of the 18th century. Along with liturgical texts — Canons to the All-Merciful Savior and the Virgin Hodegetria, About Those Who Give Alms, and to the icons of the Mother of God “Vladimirskaya”, “Kazanskaya”, “Joy of All Who Sorrow”, For the Exodus of the Soul, as well as Christmas irmosi and Easter chants — this compendium contains literature from the Chetya-Minei, under the overall theme of repentance (“The Life of St. Stephen, Hegumen of Pechersk”, “Epistle of Simon, the Bishop of Vladimir and Suzdal, to Monk Polycarp”, ‘‘Life of the Great Martyr Paraskeva”, “Skete Repentance”, Novel “Three-Folded Tenderness”, extracts from “The Eldership” and “Words of the Salutary Saint Fathers”). This convolute was bound at the end of the 19th century, though the collection had been formed a century earlier, according to the dating of the handwritten notebooks included in it and dated back to approximately the same time. Τhe article describes a collection of works which are important for the history and ideology of the Old Believers of Chasovenny consent, widespread in the Urals and Siberia.

Автор отмечает, что передвижение в поисках более благоприятных условий выживания стало постоянным элементом существования староверия. Пересечение разнонаправленных и наложение разновременных потоков определяет региональное своеобразие истории старообрядчества, которое во многом влияло на особенности развития регионов компактного его проживания, сформированных оседанием староверов в ходе их транзита. В статье проанализированы процессы образования нескольких локальных центров глазовского старообрядчества. Важную роль в формировании вятского старообрядчества сыграл разгром в первой четверти XVIII в. керженского центра, сложившегося в Поволжье еще во второй половине XVII в. С Керженца старообрядцы уходили как можно дальше от центральных властей в приуральские, уральские, зауральские леса. Некоторые из них оседали по дороге, основывая новые поселения, скиты, устраивались на возводившихся в Уральском регионе частных заводах. Маршруты мигрантов в значительной части пролегали через территорию, которая к концу XVIII в. оформилась как Вятская губерния. На основании документов, опубликованных уральским исследователем Н. С. Корепановым, автором статьи выявлены поселения, образованные старообрядцами в Верхокамье, где доминировали представители поморского направления (согласия). Западнее этого региона, на юге Глазовского уезда сложились общины филипповского согласия, в которых формирование духовной иерархии было связано с общинами Нижегородской губернии. Также рассмотрено складывание беглопоповских центров. Один из них находился на северо-востоке уезда, второй — на юго-западе. Автор статьи на основе анализа архивных источников This article is dedicated to the formation of local centres of Old Belief in Glazov district, Vyatka Province. The author notes that movement in search of more beneficial living conditions was a constant throughout Old Belief’s existence. The intersection of multidirectional, diachronic migration streams defined the regional characteristics of Old Belief, in many ways influencing the compact form of Old Believer settlement that developed in the course of their transit. The article analyses the formation of several local centres of Old Belief in Glazov. During their flight from the centre in Kerzhenets in the first quarter of the eighteenth century, Old Believers fled as far as possible from the central authorities to the Ural forests: this played an important role in the development of Vyatka Old Belief. Some of them settled along the roads, establishing new settlements and sketes amidst the private factories then being created in the Ural regions. To a considerable extent, migrant routes crossed the territory that, at the end of the eighteenth century, became Vyatka province. On the basis of documents published by the Ural researcher N. S. Korepanov, the article identifies settlements created by the Old Believers in Verkhokamye, where representatives of the Pomortsy concord were dominant. To the west of this region, in the south of Glazov district, Filippovtsy communities formed: the establishment of a spiritual hierarchy there was connected with communities in Nizhny Novgorod province. Also considered is the unfolding of Beglopopovtsy centres. One of these was located in the northeast of the district, while the other was in the southwest. On the basis of the analysis of archival documents, the article’s author explains why contradictory information has arisen in the scholarly literature about the concord to which the Old Believers of the Omutninsk factory belonged, considers the history of the largest Beglopopovtsy chapels in the Porez area, and focuses on the personalities of the Old Believer leadership in this territory. As a result of this analysis, the author concludes that by the last quarter of the nineteenth century, Old Believer migration had essentially ceased. Changes in state policy towards Old Belief had created the conditions for the latter to enjoy a more peaceful existence. В настоящей статье анализируются оценки вероучения Армянской Апостольской Церкви, преобладавшие в русской православной церковной литературе периода XII — середины XIX в. Анализ данных оценок важен не только с точки зрения сравнительного богословия, но он имеет первостепенное значение при изучении истории взаимоотношений Русской Православной Церкви с Армянской Апостольской. В имеющихся на сегодня научных публикациях затронуты лишь отдельные стороны изучаемой проблемы. Полноценно анализ отношения к армянскому вероучению в эпоху средневековья и нового времени с точки зрения истории русско-армянских церковных связей в отечественной исторической литературе практически не осуществлялся. объектом анализа выступают опубликованные и неопубликованные (архивные) исторические источники. установлено, что вплоть до середины XIX в. на страницах русской православной церковной литературы, принадлежавшей к разным жанрам (жития, догматические сочинения, публицистика, справочные издания), армянское вероучение оценивалось как «еретическое». Во второй половине XVII — первой половине XIX в. в полемических сочинениях, направленных против старообрядцев, русские церковные авторы обвиняли последних в двоеперстии, которое, по свидетельству исследователей, некогда использовали и армяне. Изначально резко негативное отношение к Армянской Церкви представители Русской Православной Церкви унаследовали от Византии. Предвзятому отношению к армянскому вероучению и обрядам в русской православной среде способствовало также отсутствие литературы, которая могла бы познакомить русского читателя с истинными основами вероучения и обрядов Армянской Церкви. В 1841 г. католикос всех армян Иоаннес Карпеци обратился к императору николаю I с просьбой о защите Армянской Церкви от необоснованных и ложных обвинений богословского и обрядового характера. Данное обращение послужило поводом к началу публикации в России работ, посвященных истории и вероучению Армянской Церкви, что впоследствии стало основой для корректировки и изменения оценок армянского вероучения как со стороны православных священнослужителей, так и представителей церковно-исторической и богословской науки., This article analyzes the assessment of the Armenian Apostolic Church creed, which prevailed in Russian Orthodox ecclesiastical literature during 12th — mid 19th century. The analysis of this assessment is important not only in terms of comparative theology, but is also of paramount importance for the study of relations between the Russian Orthodox and the Armenian Apostolic Church. Available scientific publications provide only certain aspects of the issue. A full analysis of the attitude to the Armenian doctrine in the Middle Ages and new era in terms of the history of Russian-Armenian church relations has hardly been carried out in Russian historical literature. The objects analyzed in this article are published and unpublished (archival) historical sources. Up to the mid 19th century the Armenian creed was considered “heretical” by the authors of Russian Orthodox ecclesiastical literature of different genres (hagiography, dogmatic works, political or topical journalism, reference books). In the second half of 17th — the first half of 19th century in their polemical works against the Old Believers, Russian church authors accused them of making a sign of the cross with two fingers, which according to researchers, had been used by Armenians. Initially, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church inherited a sharply negative attitude towards the Armenian Church from Byzantium. Lack of literature that could introduce a Russian reader to the true foundations of the Armenian Church creed and rites also contributed to the prejudice towards them in the Russian Orthodox environment. In 1841, the Catholicos of All Armenians, Ioannes Karpetsi, appealed to Emperor Nicholay I with the request to protect the Armenian Church from unfounded and false accusations of theological and ceremonial nature. This appeal led to the publication of works devoted to the history and doctrine of the Armenian Church, which later served as the basis for adjusting and changing the assessments of Armenian doctrine by both Orthodox clergy and representatives of ecclesiastical-historical and theological sciences.

Introduction. The article examines topical issues of the attitude of the churches of the Ecumenical Orthodoxy to the jurisdictions that have departed from them and without their permission (tomos). In theology, theology, they are called schisms, and in religious studies, they are called associations of alternative Orthodoxy. A large number of such associations have appeared in the world in the last thirty years in connection with the disintegration of a number of states on the European continent. The purpose of the study is to study the relationship of the title churches to the structures leaving them without sanction. The task of the study is the study of ways to overcome splits, and among them — the dialogue. Methods. The features of church divisions are investigated mainly on the factual materials of the Russian Orthodox Church. Her attitude towards them is analyzed, starting with the reformational and modern autocephalist movements in Ukraine. However, the ways of overcoming splits based on materials from the early and medieval history of Ecumenical Orthodoxy are also being investigated. The study was conducted on the basis of the methods of historicism, structural and functional, and the method of historical retrospection in combination with the theory of social transformation and social phenomena, which include the church. Research results. The author comes to the conclusion that the relations between the Local Churches and the schisms were always tense and conflicting. Although conflicts occur in the religious sphere, their negative consequences are also expressed in the social sphere – society and the state. Conclusion. The analysis of the gradual transition of the local churches from anathema to a dialogue with representatives of the jurisdictions departed from them has theoretical significance, i.e. contributing to the study of the evolutionary processes taking place in religion and the church. The author believes that in modern society, in its religious sphere, it is necessary to develop a dialogue as a positive form of communication in the spirit of peace and patience. Such a conclusion undoubtedly has practical significance., Введение. В статье исследуются актуальные вопросы отношения церквей Вселенского право-славия к отошедшим от них и без их разрешения (томоса) юрисдикциям. В теологии (богословии) они именуются расколами, в религиоведении – объединениями альтернативного православия. Большое число таких объединений появилось в мире в последнее тридцатилетие в связи с распа-дом ряда государств на Европейском континенте. Целью исследования является изучение отноше-ния титульных церквей к отходящим от них без их на то санкции структурам. К задаче исследова-ния относится изучение способов преодоления расколов, а среди них – диалога. Методы. Особенности церковных разделений исследуются преимущественно на фактогра-фических материалах Русской православной церкви. Анализируется отношение РПЦ к реформа-ционным и современным автокефалистским движениям на Украине. Рассматривается преодоле-ние расколов на материалах из ранней и средневековой истории Вселенского православия. Иссле-дование проводится на основе методов историзма, структурно-функционального и исторической ретроспекции в сочетании с теорией социальной трансформации социальных явлений, к которым относится и церковь. Результаты исследования. Автор приходит к выводу о том, что отношения между помест-ными церквами и расколами были всегда напряженными и конфликтными. Хотя конфликты про-исходят в сфере религиозной, их негативные последствия находят выражение и в социальной сфе-ре – обществе и государстве. Заключение. Проведенный в статье анализ постепенного перехода поместных церквей от анафемы к диалогу с представителями отошедших от них юрисдикций имеет и теоретическую зна-чимость, т.е. вносит вклад в изучение эволюционных процессов, происходящих в религии и церк-ви. Автор считает, что в современном социуме, в его религиозной сфере необходимо развивать диалог как позитивную в духе мира и долготерпения форму общения. Статья посвящена теме охранения традиционных русских начал в трудах общественного деятеля, мыслителя, издателя и публициста Михаила Никифоровича Каткова (1818–1887), 200-летие со дня рождения которого отмечалось в 2018 г. Показано, что последовательная защита интересов Церкви, государства и русского народа являлась основой его религиозно-философского мировоззрения как мыслителя и практической деятельности как просветителя. Главное внимание уделено раскрытию консервативного миропонимания Каткова на посту редактора журнала «Русский вестник» (1856–1887) и газеты «Московские ведомости» (1863–1887). В частности, дан обзор и краткий анализ публикаций, посвященных защите и изучению Православной Церкви. Отмечено, что в своей авторской публицистике и редакторской работе М. Н. Катков стремился максимально широко осветить религиозную жизнь русского народа, способствуя пробуждению в российском обществе интереса к церковным и духовно-нравственным вопросам. Также в контексте исследования политической философии мыслителя рассматривается его понимание фигуры православного монарха как блюстителя и охранителя Православной Церкви., The article is dedicated to the preservation of Russian origins in the works of a public figure, thinker, publisher and publicist Mikhail Nikiforovich Katkov (1818–1887), whose 200th anniversary of birth was celebrated in 2018. It is shown, that consecutive protection of the interests of the church, the state and the Russian nation was the basic of his religious and philosophical worldview as a thinker and practical activity, as a enlightener. The main attention is paid to the disclosure of Katkov’s conservative worldview as the editor of the magazine «The Russian Messenger» (1856–1887) and the newspaper «Moscow News» (1863–1887). Particularly, there was a review and brief analysis of publications devote to the protection and research of the Orthodox Church. It noted that in his author’s journalism and editorial work M. N. Katkov sought to illuminate the religious life of the Russian people as widely as possible, contributing to the awakening of interest in church and spiritual and moral issues in Russian society. Also in the context of the study of the political philosophy of the thinker is being considered his understanding of the figure of the Orthodox monarch as a keeper and guardian of the Orthodox Church.

В статье впервые дается целостный анализ творчества всемирно известного, но мало изученного старообрядческого иконописца и реставратора икон Пимена Максимовича Софронова. Автор осуществляет систематизацию разрозненных сведений о его творчестве, выстраивает хронологию создания основных его произведений, делает предварительный анализ его авторской манеры. Анализируя биографические данные и творчество иконописца, автор статьи выделяет три основных периода его деятельности: причудский, или шире прибалтийский, западноевропейский и американский. Посвятив данную статью первому периоду творчества П. М. Софронова, автор рассматривает иконные комплексы старообрядческих моленных Причудья, где иконописец работал в составе мастерской своего учителя, Г. Е. Фролова: это иконостасы храма д. Раюши, храма Резекненской общины, моленной в д. Казепель, моленной в д. Кикита, моленной в Малых Кольках, старообрядческого Троицкого храма в Муствэе, моленной «Благовещенья Пресвятой Богородицы», святителя Николая и девы Стефаниды в Таллинне. Обширное число выявленных произведений позволяет исследователю сделать вывод о формировании в этот период авторской манеры художника, отличающей его иконописные произведения от иконописной манеры других причудских мастеров. Софронова., In the article the complete analysis of works of the world famous, but little studied Old Belief icon painter and the restorer of icons Pimen Maksimovich Sofronov is given for the first time. The author carries out systematization of certain data on his creativity, makes chronology in creation of his main works, does the preliminary analysis of his author's manner. Analyzing biographic data and works of the icon painter, the author of the article allocates three main periods of his activity: Prichudie, or wider Baltic, Western European and American. Having devoted this article to the first period of P. M. Sofronov’s creativity, the author considers icon complexes of Old Belief preaching-houses in Prichudie where the icon painter worked with his teacher, G. E. Frolov: these are iconostases of the temple in Village Rayushi, the temple of the Rezekne community preaching-house, a preaching-house in Village Kazepel, a preaching-house in Village Kikit, a preaching-house in Maly Kolki, the Old Belief Troitsk temple in Mustvee, a preaching-house «Blessed Virgin Mary's Annunciation», the prelate Nikolay and the maiden Stefanida in Tallinn. The extensive number of the revealed works allows the researcher to draw a conclusion on formation during this period of the author's manner of the artist distinguishing his icon-painting works from the icon-painting manner of other Prichudie masters. The research will be continued in a number of the author’s subsequent articles devoted to the following stages of P. M. Sofronov’s creativity.

В статье предпринимается попытка исследования такого малоизученного аспекта в истории восстания под предводительством Е. И. Пугачева, как связи «Петра III» с Иргизскими монастырями (контакты со старцами Филаретом и Гурием) и отношение властей к проблеме пособничества старообрядческого мира самозванцу. Вопрос о необходимости всестороннего исследования данной темы был поставлен Н. С. Соколовым в 1888 г.[1], но так и не был решен. Сохранившиеся сведения о Филарете и Гурии говорят о том, что старцы подозревались властями не только в контактах с самозванцем, но и в помощи последнему в организации восстания. Кроме того, под подозрение попали и все старообрядцы, так или иначе контактировавшие с Иргизскими монастырями и территорией, охваченной военными действиями. Документы 1773-1777 гг. свидетельствуют о высокой степени озабоченности правительства и лично Екатерины II возможным участием старообрядцев в подготовке и спонсировании восстания. Это подтверждается отправкой Г. Р. Державина в Саратовскую губернию с целью установить степень причастности иргизских старообрядцев к организации восстания. В результате под подозрение попали старцы Филарет и Гурий. Следствие по делу об их контактах с Е. И. Пугачевым продолжалось и после опубликования сентенции, объявлявшей всех староверов непричастными к восстанию[2]. Розыск, начатый в Саратовской губернии, охватил и центральную часть государства, итогом чего стала поимка старообрядцев в Селинской и Гуслицкой волостях. В ходе допросов было установлено, что все пойманные староверы имели контакты с Филаретом и Гурием. Тем не менее, их причастность к восстанию так и не была доказана. Проходившие по следствию были направлены в монастыри под предлогом «отвращения от раскола», а один из старцев был оставлен в исправительном доме в Москве. Действия правительства шли вразрез с сентенцией 1775 г., что свидетельствовало о крайней его озабоченности причастностью старообрядческого мира к организации восстания. Несмотря на то, что розыск Филарета и Гурия был прекращен, вследствие невозможности их поимки, действия правительства и Екатерины II шли вразрез с провозглашенным либеральным курсом политики «просвещенного абсолютизма»., The article is to investigate such a little-studied aspect in history of the uprising led by E. I. Pugachev as the relationships of «Peter III» with the Irgiz monasteries (his contacts with elders Philaret and Guriy) and attitude of the authorities to the problem of complicity of the Old Believers’ world to the impostor. The need to conduct a comprehensive study on this question had been voiced by N. S. Sokolov as early as 1888, but it was never done. The only remaining information about Philaret and Guriy suggested that the authorities suspected them not only of contacts with the impostor, but also of helping the latter in organizing the uprising. In addition, all the Old Believers who were in contact with the Irgiz monasteries and the territories covered by military actions came under suspicion. Documents of 1773–1777 indicate a high degree of concern of the government and Catherine II personally about possible participation of Old Believers in the preparation and sponsorship of the uprising. It is confirmed by the sending of G. R. Derzhavin to the Saratov province in order to prove the involvement of the Irgiz Old Believers in the organization of the uprising. As a result, elders Philaret and Guriy came under suspicion. The investigation into their contacts with E. I. Pugachev continued even after the publication of the sentence, which declared all of the Old Believers innocent of the uprising. The search, begun in the Saratov province, continued in the central part of Russia and resulted in the capture of Old Believers in the Selinsky and Guslitsky volosts. During interrogations it was established that all of them had contacts with Philaret and Guriy. However, their involvement in the uprising was never proven. Those passing through the investigation were sent to the monasteries under the pretext of “aversion from schism”, and one of the elders was taken to a correctional home in Moscow. The government’s actions were at odds with the sentence of 1775, which indicated the extreme concern of the government about the involvement of the Old Believers in organizing the uprising. Despite the fact that the search for Philaret and Guriy was stopped, as it turned out to be impossible to capture them, the actions of the government and Catherine II went against the proclaimed liberal course of the policy of “enlightened absolutism”.

The article was submitted on 26.11.2018. This article considers a number of provisions by some Old Believer concords regarding the agrarian question. The analysis is based on documents and acts from Old Believer organisations, congresses, and meetings, journalistic materials, and epistolary documents. The Old Believers suggested a solution to the land question that involved elements of the liberal (Kadet) programme. However, unlike the Kadets (who suggested in 1917 that the land be given to peasants in perpetuity), Old Believers (including peasants) insisted that the land given to peasants be treated as private property. A small number of Old Believer peasants acted according to the principles established by the Socialist Revolutionaries. However, the Old Believer solution to the agrarian question was characterised by a unique combination of features. To a large extent, this resulted from the peculiarities of the democratic and polemic structure of the Old Believer community. Old Believer peasants (who mostly had solid, functioning households) always trusted the representative bodies and forums in which they actively participated. Thus, formulated at their congresses and meetings, the peasants’ points of view were actively taken into account by Old Believer authorities and had a considerable influence on the resolutions of the congresses. However, the principle of unpredeterminedness (Rus. непредрешенчество), zealously followed in the political documents of the adherents of old rite, was a major point of disagreement. The position of the Old Believers on the most important political and economic issues was characterised by the pronounced Christian (even chiliastic) tone of their political projects, with its ‘demand for truth, justice, brotherhood, and love’. Однако, в отличие от кадетов, предлагавших в 1917 г. передачу земли фонда в бессрочное пользование, старообрядцы (в том числе крестьяне) настаивали на частнособственническом характере крестьянских хозяйств, получивших землю. Небольшая часть крестьян-старообрядцев в отдельных регионах восприняли лозунги эсеров. Но в целом старообрядческая версия решения земельной проблемы имела уникальное сочетание черт. Это во многом объяснялось спецификой демократического и полемического устройства старообрядческого сообщества. Крестьяне-старообрядцы (в массе своей – крепкие хозяева) никогда не отказывали в доверии своим представительным организациям и форумам, в которых принимали активное участие. Сформулированные на съездах и собраниях самими крестьянами точки зрения на земельную проблему действительно учитывались политической верхушкой староверчества и оказывали значительное влияние на резолюции этих съездов. Важнейшие разногласия при этом вызывал принцип непредрешенчества, строго воспроизводившийся в политических документах ревнителей древнего благочестия различных согласий. Позиция старообрядцев по важнейшим политическим и эконо- мическим вопросам революционного времени отличалась тем, что большое значение они придавали христианской и даже хилиастической окраске своих политических проектов, основывавшихся на христианстве с его требованиями правды и справедливости, братства и любви.

В статье затронута проблема эволюции христианского художественного символа и его отражение в культурах стран западноевропейских и восточнославянских. Искусство книжной миниатюры эпохи Высокого Средневековья в своей основе опиралось на иконографию христианской византийской культуры. По отдельным изобразительным признакам, характерным для иллюстраций западноевропейских манускриптов и рукописей поздней кириллической традиции, можно обозначить общие черты, присущие христианскому искусству, отследить определенные многовековые трансформации христианского символа, найти элементы сходства в изобразительной практике. Мотивы ранней иконографии отчетливо прослеживаются в лицевых рукописях Городецко-Нижегородской изобразительной редакции лицевых списков Апокалипсиса. Эта редакция была сформирована старообрядческими книжниками, которые жили в городах Нижний Новгород, Городец и их окрестностях. В статье анализируются иконографические признаки этой редкой художественной редакции русского лицевого Толкового Апокалипсиса, сохранившей следы древней иконографии. Обозначение устойчивых иконографических признаков лицевых рукописей в рамках редакции и сопоставление их с изображениями ранних западных манускриптов позволяет провести некоторые параллели в развитии христианского искусства. Сравнительный анализ иконографии русских поздних и ранних западноевропейских лицевых списков памятника может подтвердить либо опровергнуть гипотезу о существовании единого протографа для обеих книжных традиций, которая была выдвинута еще в XIX в. первым исследователем лицевого Апокалипсиса Ф. И. Буслаевым. Статья носит описательный характер признаков и иконографических схем Городецко-Нижегородской редакции и сравнение их с ранними западноевропейскими изобразительными сюжетами. В задачи данной обзорной статьи не входит обширная и многогранная тема освещения путей и способов проникновения в позднее православное искусство элементов ранней западноевропейской иконографии. Здесь лишь намечены ключевые моменты исследования проблемы эволюции отдельных иконографических схем, мотивов и символов, их генезис и развитие в различных исторических условиях., This article touches on the evolution of Christian symbols in art and their reflection in West European and East Slavonic cultures. The art of manuscript miniatures in the High Middle Ages was based on the iconography of Byzantine Christian culture. Using various features typical of manuscript illustrations belonging to both the West European and late Cyrillic traditions, it is possible to outline the fundamental characteristics inherent in Christian art, follow the centuries-long transformation of Christian symbols, and to find similarities in iconographic practices. The motifs of early iconography can be clearly traced in illustrated manuscripts belonging to the Gorodets and Nizhny Novgorod tradition of apocalypses. This tradition was formed by Old Believer scribes who lived in Nizhny Novgorod, Gorodets, and their hinterlands. The article analyzes the iconographic features of this rare artistic tradition of illuminated Russian apocalypses which maintain the traces of ancient iconography. Designating constantly used iconographic features of illuminated manuscripts within this tradition and juxtaposing them with images from early Western manuscripts allows showing some parallels in the development of Christian art. A comparative analysis of the iconography of late Russian and early West European illustrated manuscripts can help to confirm or disprove the existence of a single protograph for both traditions, which was proposed as early as the 19th century by F. I. Buslaev, the first researcher on illuminated Russian apocalypses. The article describes features of the iconographic scheme of the Gorodets and Nizhny Novgorod tradition and compares them with early West European pictorial narratives. It does not, however, touch upon the wide and multifaceted theme of the means by which elements of early West European iconography made their way in late Orthodox art. Here, we only remark on the key moments of the evolution of the individual iconographic schemes, motifs, and symbols and their genesis and development in distinct historic conditions.
