The organizational climate is related to the degree of motivation of its employees. This perception is essentially felt, it is neither seen nor touched, but it is real. This study aims to identify difficulties and potentialities related to the organizational climate of the nursing staff at a public hospital in the Federal District. Methodologically, a descriptive and exploratory study was carried out characterized by a qualitative approach. The thematic content analysis led to three interpretative dimensions: environment and working conditions; communication, interpersonal relationship and work flows; motivation to improve the work environment. The results indicate a deficit of human resources, scarcity of material resources, supplies, precarious physical structure, in addition to interpersonal relationship problems, such as the (de)valuation of professional nurses and nursing. The challenges posed to managers go beyond the technical and structural dimension, the technological complexity of equipment without maintenance, as it unfolds through the human dimension, feelings and unmet needs (of appreciation) of nursing, which needs to be cared for, valued, heard and seen in their care process. An unpredictable emergency situation might happen due to the adverse reaction to psychoactive drug plus physiological disease problems. When a first aid incident occurs, psychiatry nurses who are inexperienced and lack confidence might have impared judgements and inefficient division of labor, which can contribute to an issue of first aid. The current analysis confirmed that task assignment is not specific, a lack of recognition of the accurate position of the first aid cart materials and standard operation procedure, and that the education training is deficient. Moreover, the restrictions of the first aid environment is also related to first aid results. This project defined the division of task assignment, developed first aid cart material pairing software, revised standard operation procedure, and conducted first aid simulation training classes. Results indicated a rise in the accuracy of first aid procedure from 63.7% to 95.6%, and the first aid procedure cognition rose from 64.89% to 92.12%. Additionally, the project increased the awareness of first aid procedure, self-confidence, and brought the team together to reduce the misstep of first aid procedure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Student nurse education focusses on preparing competent professionals integral to nursing teams. Aim: To develop strategic actions to include student nurses within the nursing team. Setting: A private healthcare group in South Africa. Methods: A qualitative approach in three phases was used. Thirty purposively sampled participants recorded reflective journals in phase one. Tesch’s eight steps were utilised for analysis. Phase two involved non-probability volunteer sampling of 11 participants for the nominal group technique analysis. In phase three, total population sampling recruited nine panellists for an e-Delphi technique that provided data that were open coded. Results: Phase one identified themes, including perceptions of responsibilities, support needs, recognition, conflict and communication issues. Phase two revealed five strategic actions: fair treatment, aligned work allocation, active participation, respect and acknowledgement of contributions. Phase three validated 19 strategic statements underpinning the strategic actions. Conclusion: Unit managers play a key role in fostering inclusivity, impacting student nurse retention. Contribution: Enhancing team cohesion can improve workplace wellness and patient outcomes while aiding in retention and recruitment efforts.

Objective: to analyze nurses’ role in collecting, identifying and preserving traces in Emergency care for victims of violence, from the perspective of these professionals. Method: a qualitative study with an exploratory and descriptive approach. It was developed through semi-structured interviews with 21 nurses from hospitals that are part of the intersectoral flow to assist victims of violence from two reference hospitals in this type of care, in a capital city from southern Brazil. Nurses that are members of the multiprofessional team working in the Emergency areas at the respective hospitals were included; in turn, the exclusion criteria corresponded to professionals relocated in Emergency areas during the pandemic. Data analysis was performed according to Thematic Content Analysis. Results: the data were discussed in five categories: 1) Professional qualification; 2) Institutional protocol and materials; 3) The professionals’ perceptions; 4) The professionals’ actions; and 5) Team structure. Conclusion: Nursing professionals’ skills in collecting, identifying and preserving traces in Emergency assistance provided to victims of violence need to be better organized, structured and standardized. The presence of Nursing professionals in the care of victims of violence in Emergency services is undeniable, but their importance is still underestimated and their potential contribution to the forensic approach is underused.

Pressure injuries represent a serious health concern, as they prolong the period of hospitalization, causing high hospital costs, in addition to representing a significant indicator of the quality of both health services and nursing care. In this sense, the objective of the study was to identify the challenges faced by the nursing team in implementing preventive measures for pressure injuries. This is a study of a theoretical-reflective nature, carried out in December 2023 in the databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE) and Nursing Database (BDENF). The results of this study highlighted the presence of obstacles such as work overload, lack of adequate resources, the need for constant professional updating and the importance of effective communication between team members. In view of the above, it is observed that the need to raise awareness about the importance of PPI prevention must be increased not only among health professionals, but also among hospital managers, responsible for providing the necessary resources for the effectiveness of preventive practices. Aims: To identify changes in mental health status among nursing professionals in a Brazilian municipality during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Design: An observational and longitudinal study. Methods: Using the Patient Health Questionnaire‐9, the presence of depressive symptoms was evaluated among 690 nursing professionals in the city of Pelotas, Brazil, at two moments: June/July 2020 and June/July 2021. Results: 13.0% incidence of depressive symptoms was identified; as well as 12.2% remission; 24.1% persistence and 50.7% absence. Among the factors associated with the worst prognoses we can mention female gender, greater workload, feeling of overload, illness of family members or friends due to COVID‐19 and use of psychotropic drugs Conclusions: There was significant mobility in the diagnosis of depression among the professionals studied during the period analysed, with incidence of new cases of significant depression and greater than the number of remissions. In addition to sociodemographic aspects, traumatic experiences and exposure to continuous overload were associated with persistence and incidence of new cases. Implications for the profession and/or patient care: With the advent of the COVID‐19 pandemic, several studies have shown an increase in depressive symptoms among nursing professionals; however, understanding the long‐term effects of this scenario is still a challenge. Impact: What problem did the study address? This study investigates changes in the mental health status of nursing professionals working at different care levels, taking the prevalence of screening for depression as a proxy, during a period of a year during the COVID‐19 pandemic. What were the main findings? Between both data collection moments, 2020 e 2021, there was a significant percentage of professionals with persistent depression, in addition to a significant proportion of incident cases that slightly exceeded the number of remissions and the factors associated with the worst prognoses were sociodemographic aspects such as gender and emotional stressors like illness of family members or close friends due to COVID‐19, in addition to those related to the organisation and support provided by the services, such as workload and feeling of overload. Where and on whom will the research have an impact? This study will impact the nursing professionals and in role of the health services in order to establishing actions that contribute to minimising the deleterious effects of the pandemic on the mental health of their Nursing teams. Objective: to evaluate the Nursing workload and its related factors in the assistance provided to hospitalized women with gynecological and breast cancers, according to the Nursing Activities Scores adapted for cancer patients. Method: a cross-sectional and epidemiological study. The participants were women with gynecological and/or breast cancer, over 18 years of age, and hospitalized for a minimum period of 24 hours. The following was collected from the medical records: sociodemographic and clinical data, Karnofsky Performance Status and workload, according to the adapted Nursing Activities Score. The factors related to workload were analyzed by means of multiple linear regression. Results: the mean Nursing Activities Scores was 29.3%, denoting seven hours of daily care per patient. ABSTRACT Objective: To conduct the cross-cultural adaptation and evaluate the evidence of content validity of the Adverse Events Associated with Nursing Practices instrument in the Brazilian context. Method: Psychometric study, conducted between June 2021 and February 2023, following the stages of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System protocol. Semantic, idiomatic, experimental and conceptual equivalences were evaluated, along with content validity evidence, considering Content Validity Ratio (CVR) parameters, with the participation of 25 experts. Results: A Brazilian version with 55 items was obtained, demonstrating good linguistic equivalence to the original version (agreement rate=99.2%), and adjustments in the items writing. CVR values remained above 0.60. Cognitive testing indicated good understanding, confirmed by the 31 participants in this stage, with a short application time (average = 17 minutes). Conclusion: The final version of the instrument showed good linguistic equivalence, strong evidence of content validity and a good response process in the Brazilian context.

Introduction: Healthcare-associated infections are concerning adverse events and hand hygiene is considered an essential preventive measure. The objective of the present study was to assess the effect of a correct 3-step hand hygiene technique on reducing of potentially pathogenic microorganisms on hands related to the WHO five moments for hand hygiene. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was performed by means of direct observation involving 60 Intensive Care Units (ICU) and clinical nursing professionals in a Brazilian hospital. Observations were performed in order to ascertain the adherence rate and the correct technique during health assistance. Additionally, microbiological analysis of material collected from the nursing professional's hands was carried out. Exploratory and inferential analyses were performed on R software and binomial analysis was carried out by using the Z-test. The study was approved by the research ethics committee and covered all the legal principles for the protection of human subjects. Results: Hand hygiene adherence rate was 63.3%. However, only 13.3% of the professionals performed the correct 3-step hand hygiene technique regarding steps and time. Sixty-five microorganisms were isolated, among which 56.9% were coagulase-negative Staphylococcus, 26.2% were Gram-negative bacilli, 7.7% were Enterococcus faecalis, and 6.2% were Candida parapsilosis. There was no presence of potentially pathogenic microorganisms on the nursing professional's hands who performed the correct three-step technique. Conclusions: Overall correct hand hygiene technique was poor. The results indicated the presence of potentially pathogenic microorganisms at moments in which hand hygiene was mandatory but was not executed or was executed incorrectly. The 3-step hand hygiene technique proved to be effective when correctly performed since there were no microorganism growth. Larger studies are needed to test if these results can be replicated at a larger scale, since streamlining hand hygiene technique yielded encouraging results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The occupational activities carried out in hospital environments pose occupational risks to professionals. In psychiatric hospitals, due to the characteristics of the patients treated, professionals are also subjected to other risks, such as physical aggression. This research aimed to identify the systemic context, highlighting the cause-and-effect relationships that culminate in occupational accidents that occurred with the nursing staff in a psychiatric hospital in Brazil. The current study is an applied research and was divided into three stages. First, the collection of data related to the case study was made and accidents were analyzed and occupational hazards were identified. In the second stage, from the collected information, occupational safety indicators were defined. Lastly, in the third stage, the qualitative aspect of System Dynamics was applied to perform the systemic analysis and to identify how the different variables were related. The results showed that physical aggression was the main cause of accidents. Regarding safety indicators, while both the level of use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by professionals and the high level of PPE protection were positive aspects, the level of training of professionals to use PPE was a negative aspect. The Causal Link Diagram (CLD) showed that the perception of risk influenced the level of use of PPE and those organizational measures influenced the accident rate. In conclusion, the systemic analysis of the system dynamics can optimize the diagnostic process of occupational accidents in psychiatric hospitals, and especially help to identify the cause and effect among the variables involved. • The main generator of accidents was the physical aggression of patients towards professionals. • A network of complex relationships that influence the occurrence of the accident was identified and is often difficult to understand due to the various interrelationships of the elements of the system. • The systemic analysis allowed a more precise understanding of all the factors involved in work accidents and how safety indicators can contribute with some positive aspects, as well as the need for organizational control measures. Background & Aim: Teamwork represents a fundamental prerequisite for providing quality and safe care. This study aimed to determine the level of teamwork and the factors that influence the level of teamwork in selected hospitals in the Slovak Republic. Methods & Materials: The descriptive cross-sectional study included 207 nurses from 12 departments of three district hospitals in the Slovak Republic. Data were collected between November 2022 and February 2023 using a questionnaire that evaluated nursing teamwork, the Nursing Teamwork Survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Nurses evaluated the level of teamwork as (3.74± 0.64), which means ideal less than 75% of the time during the last working shift. The best-rated subscale was the Shared mental model (4.17± 0.49), while the worst-rated subscale was Team orientation (2.47± 0.85). Differences in teamwork level were found based on unit type, education, number of hours worked, number of overtime hours, and perceived staff adequacy (p≤ 0.05). The correlation analysis revealed associations between teamwork and job satisfaction, teamwork satisfaction, subjective quality evaluation, and patient safety, as well as with the number of patients in the last shift, including the number of admitted and discharged patients. Conclusion: By regularly determining teamwork levels, it is possible to identify the strengths and weaknesses of nursing teams. Analyzing team weaknesses and implementing targeted measures can lead to strengthening teamwork and improving team functioning.

Objective: to identify the work of nursing professionals in the context of the MadeiraMamoré Railway (1907-1930). Method: historical research with a qualitative approach, comprising the construction, operation and deactivation of the Madeira-Mamoré Railway. Data collection took place from December 2020 to February 2021, with thehelp of a pre-prepared instrument in books, articles, manuals and other documents in the written press. The stages of survey, data organization, critical evaluation, presentation and interpretation of data were completed. Results: identified nine nurses working at Hospital da Candelária and other public health sectors in Rondônia. He noted the visibility of male nurses. There is also a record of the work of two North American nurses, and it is believed that they came to assist in providing assistance to railroad workers, before 1920. Conclusion: the gender issue may be related to greater political engagement or representation of strength and resistance in the face of precarious health conditions. The lack of availability of nurses or the need for other nursing practices may have contributed to the arrival of foreign nurses, drawing attention and giving visibility to the profession in the media. Introduction: During the covid-19 pandemic, safety protocols were implemented that contributed to the protection of patients and nursing professionals. Objective: To evaluate the knowledge about the sequence of dressing and undressing by nursing professionals who worked in assistance during the covid-19 pandemic and to verify the association between this knowledge and sociodemographic and performance characteristics of nursing professionals. Method: Cross-sectional study, carried out from November 2020 to December 2021 with nursing professionals working in care in the five regions of Brazil. The questionnaire was developed considering the Technical Note GVIMS/GGTES/ANVISA No. 04/2020. It has 10 questions, ranging from 0 to 10 points. The cutoff point = 75 points and < 74 points was established to indicate sufficient knowledge and insufficient knowledge. Data collection was performed using Google forms®, using different social networks. Results: Of the 493 nursing professionals, 157 were aged between 30 and 39 years, 374 were female, and 358 worked as nurses. In terms of knowledge about the dressing and undressing sequence, 370 had sufficient knowledge and 123 had insufficient knowledge. There was no association between knowledge about dressing and undressing with sociodemographic characteristics and professional performance. Conclusion: Nursing professionals demonstrated adequate knowledge about dressing and undressing and there was no association between knowledge and characterization of the participants. Introduction: The Material and Sterilization Center (CME) is the sector responsible for processing materials for use in health care. The CME has the assistance of the Hospital Infection Control Commission (CCIH) team, with the objective of preparing and guaranteeing the quality of all stages of processing, in order to reduce the rates of infection related to health care and, thus, contribute to patient safety. Objectives: To analyze the literary evidence and the understanding that the CME nursing team has regarding the processing of health materials, current legislation, about the importance of their work for patient safety. Method: Qualitative field research, based on Hermeneutics-Dialectics, developed in a public hospital in the interior of the State of São Paulo. 21 professionals from the team participated through semi-structured interviews. Results: From the analysis of the meanings obtained in the speeches of the participants, six analytical categories emerged: 1. Understanding the stages of the work process in the CSSD; 2. Misunderstanding of ANVISA legislation (RDC 2605, 156, 15); 3. Understanding the importance of the CME's work for patient safety; Final considerations: From the Hermeneutics-Dialectics, it was evident how nursing understands its work process and the importance for patient safety, indicating the needs and demands for carrying out its activities and the need to continue learning in everyday life from work. Objective: To discuss complications and preventive measures, as well as the removal conditions associated with the use of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters, in the intra-hospital context from the perspective of the nursing team's knowledge. Methods: Exploratory-descriptive investigation, mixed-method research, carried out in a private hospital (MG-Brazil), from March to May/2021, with 114 nursing professionals, using Google Forms. The following data were collected: Professional's characterization, knowledge's profile and evaluation of complications, preventive measures and removal conditions associated with the use of the catheter. Results: The professional profile reveals signs of how nursing job is precarious and the participants' knowledge demonstrates access to the main complications of using the device, prevention measures, as well as the conditions that justify its removal. Conclusion: There is evidence of the needed educational interventions, aiming an improvement of the safe practice to the professional and to the patient, care quality and excellence of care in the health institution. Objective: to analyze the diverse scientific evidence regarding the use of aromatherapy in reducing stress-related symptoms in the Nursing team. Method: an integrative literature review carried out on July 1st, 2022, based on the "Aromatherapy", "Stress" and "Nursing" descriptors and using the Rayyan platform to select the studies, all in charge of two independent researchers. Full-text and free digital access documents in Portuguese, English or Spanish were included, which analyzed aromatherapy and the population of interest separately. Results: twelve studies were included, with predominance of randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies. Inhalation aromatherapy with Lavandula angustifolia essential oil stood out. The use of a Control Group and multiple outcome measures were the criteria that presented the greatest weakness among the studies analyzed. Objective: to understand the experiences of presenteeism in nursing professionals from hospital services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: qualitative study, anchored in historical-dialectical materialism. Thirty nursing workers participated in the research, divided into six online focus groups, analyzed based on Hermeneutics-Dialectics. Results: three categories of analysis emerged: "Worsening presenteeism in the pandemic context"; "Why did I go to work sick: the worker's decision or precarious work?"; "Old problems, permanent struggle". Despite the illness of professionals by COVID-19, presenteeism in the pandemic was marked by institutional pressure to return to work, mental suffering and lack of recognition and humanization. Among the factors that led to presenteeism, the lack of testing for COVID-19, concern for patients, co-workers and managers, as well as fear of losing their job and/or financial benefits, stood out. Faced with this scenario, workers called for a new reality in which rights such as decent wages and safe working conditions are guaranteed. Conclusion: the pandemic context revealed a worsening of presenteeism among nursing professionals. Objective: Compare reported patient safety incidents related to a clinical process/procedure among patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis and with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) caused by another infectious or undetermined agent and the other patients. Results and discussion: retrospective, documentary study approved by the ethics committee in a public teaching hospital in southern Brazil. In the study, 2,191 notifications and records of COVID-19 between March and September 2020 were used. The data were submitted to descriptive analysis with frequencies of the variables in the data set, Fisher's test to determine the associations between outcomes (classification/process/problem) and calculation of relative risk to measure its strength. The incidence of pressure ulcers was almost 3.7 times higher in patients with SARS. In the others, various tube-related incidents and events associated to the surgical process predominated. Conclusion: Intensive nursing care for patients with SARS, risk management and strengthening of good practices for the safety of all patients were relevant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Patient safety is a healthcare system, which minimizes the occurrence and impact of side effects. It also helps to facilitate full recovery in patients, and efforts to improve their safety require teamwork, such as situation monitoring by nurses. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effects of TeamSTEPPS implementation by nurses on situation monitoring in hospitals. Design and Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-post test design was used with a total of 56 nurses, which were selected using the purposive sampling technique. They were then shared equally into 2 groups, namely control and intervention groups. Results: The unpaired t-test result shows that the value of |t count| was lower than the t table (0.210 < 2.005), while the p-value was greater than α (0.835 > 0.050). This result indicates that implementing TeamSTEPPS by nurses have an insignificant effect on situation monitoring in the hospital. Conclusions: In conclusion, hospitals are advised to implement TeamSTEPPS regularly to improve teamwork, specifically in situation monitoring by nurses.

This work is centered on the theme of leadership, whose objective was: to analyze the perception of leadership by nursing managers at a teaching hospital in a city in the interior of RJ, correlating it with their management practices. The study was carried out with manager nurses of a teaching hospital, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews and situational interviews. From the content analysis carried out, 355 record units (RUs), 41 themes and 04 categories named as: Fundamental skills for the exercise of leadership, Fundamental attitudes for the exercise of leadership; Leadership and leadership as antagonists in the managerial exercise of nursing and Fundamental conditions for the exercise of leadership. The perception of nurses, participants in this study, about leadership was built from a daily practice in conflict resolution being based on knowledge acquired during their management and, in many cases, without theoretical knowledge anchored in training in the area of management. Introduction: Sleep deprivation is a relevant problem among patients hospitalized in ICUs. Further, noise is the most critical disruptive factor according to patients. Objective: To implement scientific evidence-based best practices for noise control in an adult ICU. Methods: This was an evidence-based implementation project of best practices in noise control, conducted in a high-complexity hospital's adult ICU. The intervention consisted of three steps: baseline audit and identification of barriers, implementation of best practices, and a follow-up audit. Results: No compliance with best practices was detected in the baseline audit. After the implementation phase, the unit reached compliance levels of 78-88% for most of these criteria; only one criterion related to noise level did not match the expected compliance. Conclusion: Adherence to best practices regarding noise control was satisfactory, achieving more than 70% compliance in the six audit criteria. Only the noise level did not reach the threshold recommended by the WHO - a difficulty reported in other studies. Relevance to clinical practice: Best practices related to noise control are essential for managing sleep deprivation in ICUs and include changes in the behaviour of involved professionals. Objective: to understand the perception of the nursing team of an intensive care unit and pediatric hospitalization about palliative care for hospitalized children. Methods: a descriptive, qualitative study was conducted with a large hospital pediatric intensive care and hospitalization unit's nursing team. Fourteen nursing professionals participated in the study, including nurses, technicians, and nursing assistants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and treated under content analysis. Results: The interpretative analysis of the interviews allowed the construction of three categories:"The knowledge of the nursing team about palliative care in pediatrics", "The challenges of the nursing team in performing palliative care in pediatrics", and "The benefits of palliative care in pediatric care from the perspective of the nursing team". Conclusions: The lack of knowledge and training of nursing professionals on palliative care are factors that can hamper their implementation and consolidation process in units that care for children with no possibility of cure, in addition to favoring decisions to be under the responsibility of the medical category, compromising the role of the multidisciplinary team and depriving patients of the benefits of palliative care.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive lung disease causing limitations in daily life. A cross‐sectorial lung team was established for COPD patients at risk of hospitalisation due to exacerbation of COPD. Aims: To investigate the impact of affiliation to a cross‐sectorial lung team on well‐being, health‐related quality of life, symptoms of anxiety and depression and patient involvement in patients with severe COPD. Methods: A randomised controlled trial was conducted from September 2017 to March 2020. In total, 109 patients were included for analysis in the study: 53 patients were affiliated to a cross‐sectorial lung team and 56 patients received usual care. The patients were included for 1 year. Data were collected at baseline and at follow‐up after 1 year. Data were collected using COPD Assessment Test (CAT), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), EuroQol 5‐Dimensions (EQ‐5D) and Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (PACIC). Results: The questionnaire response rate was between 84% and 96%. No statistically significant differences were detected between patients affiliated to the cross‐sectorial lung team and patients receiving usual care, in either patient's well‐being, health‐related quality of life, symptoms of anxiety and depression, or patient involvement. However, CAT‐total score decreased with −0.21(95%CI: −1.63; 1.20) for patients affiliated to the cross‐sectorial lung team and increased with 1.44(95%CI; −0.11; 3.00) for patients receiving usual care. Conclusion: Affiliation to the cross‐sectorial lung team seems safe as it did not deteriorate the patients' well‐being, symptoms of anxiety and depression, health‐related quality of life or patient involvement. Objective To understand the theoretical knowledge and map recognition level of electrocardiogram（ECG）of clinical nurses,to provide a basis for the future teaching direction and the classification of key points on ECG,and to actively explore ways to improve the map recognition level of ECG in clinical nurses.Methods A total of 400clinical nurses were randomly selected from all levels of hospitals in Chongqing for investigation from February 14th to March 10th,2021.A self-made questionnaire was conducted,including the basic knowledge of ECG,map recognition ability test,and influencing factors of ECG learning,etc.Results The score of the basic theory of ECG [6（4,8）scores]and map recognition[40（25,55）scores]of the 400clinical nurses were all low,and there were statistically significant differences between different grades of hospitals,different educational backgrounds,whether the clinical nurse was in charge or not,and whether the nurse was a cardiac specialist or not（P<0.05）.Nurses in the department of cardiology had the highest map recognition ability of ECG for fatal arrhythmia,and the differences were statistically significant compared with nurses in ICU and other departments（P<0.001）.Conclusion The basic knowledge of ECG and the level of map recognition of clinical nurses are not high on the whole,so corresponding measures should be taken to improve the knowledge of ECG of clinical nurses. This article aims to identify the regulatory strategies, individual and collective, adopted by a nursing team in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), to manage the variability and achieve the productive and health and safety management objectives in the sector and in the analyzed context. The methodology used in the study is based on the Ergonomic Analysis of Work (EAW) and Ergology. As a result, it became evident that individual and collective strategies are carried out at all times to supply the variability imposed by the environment, to manage the risks of the process, which is complex and demands a necessary cooperation from the collective, whose regulation is effective in resingularization in the face of local standards, necessary for the construction and updating of knowledge in view of the risk and constraints imposed, in addition to the excess of turnover that causes impacts on the sector, such as loss of knowledge, values and the destructuring of this collective, which is structuring. Objective: Analyzing the occurrence of incidents related to health care in hospitalized children. Material and method: An exploratory, descriptive and quantitative research conducted from a database of reports of incidents and adverse events involving children conducted between 2016 and 2018 from a teaching hospital belonging to the Unified Health System (SUS), located in Salvador - Bahia. The data were analyzed in the STATA version 12 program. Results: During the study period, 126 incidents were reported. Most of the children who suffered incidents were between 0 and 3 years old (57.14%); were male (58.73%); and belonged to the black race (87.92%). The incidents occurred mostly in the morning shift (29.37%), and the notifications were identified in 71.46% of the cases and were performed by nurses (88.10%). The most reported incidents were falls (29.37%); surgical (23.02%); phlebitis (9.52%); and skin lesions (8.73%). There was damage to patients in 39.68% of the cases, which was mild (80%). Conclusions: The findings indicate the need to create methods for assessing risk factors that favor the occurrence of incidents such as falls and other situations that compromise the safety of hospitalized children, since these patients have peculiarities that need to be considered in health care. Background: Severe pneumonia is a common severe respiratory infection worldwide, and its treatment is challenging, especially for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU)., Aim: To explore the effect of communication and collaboration between nursing teams on the treatment outcomes of patients with severe pneumonia in ICU., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 60 patients with severe pneumonia who were treated at the ICU of the hospital between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2023. We compared and analyzed the respiratory mechanical indexes [airway resistance (Raw), mean airway pressure (mPaw), peak pressure (PIP)], blood gas analysis indexes (arterial oxygen saturation, arterial oxygen partial pressure, and oxygenation index), and serum inflammatory factor levels [C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), cortisol (COR), and high mobility group protein B1 (HMGB1)] of all patients before and after treatment., Results: Before treatment, there was no significant difference in respiratory mechanics index and blood gas analysis index between 2 groups ( P > 0.05). However, after treatment, the respiratory mechanical indexes of patients in both groups were significantly improved, and the improvement of Raw, mPaw, plateau pressure, PIP and other indexes in the combined group after communication and collaboration with the nursing team was significantly better than that in the single care group ( P < 0.05). The serum CRP and PCT levels of patients were significantly decreased, and the difference was statistically significant compared with that of nursing group alone ( P < 0.05). Background: As global migration increases, nurse managers' effectiveness in multi-cultural nursing work environments is crucial due to the rising cultural diversity within healthcare teams. Despite the increasing international recruitment of qualified nurses to address the worldwide nursing shortage, no studies have synthesised the impact of nurse managers' attributes on nurses in multi-cultural nursing teams. Therefore, it was conducted a literature review aimed to synthesise the available literature on how nurse managers' personality traits, competencies, behaviours, and leadership styles influence nurse outcomes in multi-cultural nursing teams., Methods: Scoping review conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines to map the relationship or influence of nurse managers' personality traits, competencies, behaviours, and leadership styles on the outcomes of nurses in multi-cultural settings across various clinical environments. Searches were conducted across electronic databases such as CINAHL and MEDLINE, along with grey literature., Results: This review included 39 studies, highlighting 29 personality traits, 9 competencies, 115 behaviours, and 5 leadership styles that impact nurses' outcomes. Key findings emphasise the importance of nurse managers being supportive, culturally competent, and effective communicators, with transformational leadership style being particularly beneficial., Conclusions: These findings provide insights for planning and developing training programmes to equip current and future nurse managers with skills to effectively lead in multi-cultural care settings.

Background: Student nurse education focusses on preparing competent professionals integral to nursing teams., Aim: To develop strategic actions to include student nurses within the nursing team., Setting: A private healthcare group in South Africa., Methods: A qualitative approach in three phases was used. Thirty purposively sampled participants recorded reflective journals in phase one. Tesch's eight steps were utilised for analysis. Phase two involved non-probability volunteer sampling of 11 participants for the nominal group technique analysis. In phase three, total population sampling recruited nine panellists for an e-Delphi technique that provided data that were open coded., Results: Phase one identified themes, including perceptions of responsibilities, support needs, recognition, conflict and communication issues. Phase two revealed five strategic actions: fair treatment, aligned work allocation, active participation, respect and acknowledgement of contributions. Introducción. Los accidentes de trabajo por exposición al riesgo biológico (ATBIO) son causas potenciales de enfermedades infecciosas relacionadas con alta morbilidad y mortalidad. La identificación de las causas que generan dicha accidentalidad permitirá establecer estrategias que controlen y disminuyan la siniestralidad laboral. El objetivo del presente manuscrito fue establecer la asociación entre los rasgos de personalidad, principalmente el rasgo de personalidad de despreocupación y la ocurrencia de ATBIO en el personal de enfermería del Hospital Universitario de Santander entre el periodo 2008 y 2009. Metodología. Estudio de casos y controles. Resultados. Se incluyeron 68 (18%) casos con historia de ATBIO y 290 controles, para una razón caso: control de 1:4. En el análisis multivariado se encontraron las siguientes variables asociadas a la accidentalidad laboral de riesgo biológico: percibir el riesgo de presentar un ATBIO en el servicio como alta OR: 0.42 (IC 95% 0.23 – 0.75), trabajar 24 o más horas adicionales a la semana OR: 2.66 (IC 95% 1.34 – 5.28), laborar en el servicio de urgencias OR: 2.72 (IC 95% 1.38 – 5.35) , no disponer de guantes cuando se requieren durante su labor OR: 2.05 (IC 95% 1.10 – 3.79), y percibir el riesgo como alto disminuye el riesgo en el 60%. Conclusión. Se identificaron variables significativas relacionadas con la ocurrencia de accidentes de trabajo, las cuales facilitarán la planeación, ejecución e implementación de programas de salud ocupacional dirigidos al control de la accidentalidad laboral de riesgo biológico. No se evidenció relación entre rasgos de personalidad y la ocurrencia de ATBIO. Introduction. Work accidents involving exposure to biological hazards (ATBIO for its Spanish original) are potential causes of infectious diseases related to high morbidity and mortality rates. The identification of the causes that produce such accident rate will enable the implementation of strategies to control and reduce work-related accidents. The objective was establishing the association between personality traits, particularly the personality trait of unconcern, and the occurrence of ATBIO among the nursing staff of Hospital Universitario de Santander in the period from 2008 to 2009. Methodology. Case-control study. Results. The study included 68 (18%) cases with ATBIO history and 290 controls, for a case-to-control ratio of 1:4. The multivariate análisis found the following variables associated with work-accident rate involving biological hazards: perceiving the risk of an ATBIO at work as high, OR: 0.42 (CI 95% 0.23 – 0.75); working 24 or more additional hours per week, OR: 2.66 (CI 95% 1.34 – 5.28); working in the emergency room, OR: 2.72 (CI 95% 1.38 – 5.35); not wearing gloves when they are required for the task, OR: 2.05 (CI 95% 1.10 – 3.79), and perceiving the risk as high reduces the risk by 60%. Conclusion. Significant variables were identified related to the occurrence of work accidents, which will facilitate planning, execution and implementation of occupational health programs aimed at controlling work-accident rate involving biological hazards. No evidence was found of a relationship between personality traits and the occurrence of ATBIO.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to validate and apply a change-of-shift instrument using the SBAR (Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation) tool. Methods: methodological study for the validation of an instrument. It was validated by ten judges from the area of nursing teaching and care and applied in a surgical gastroenterology ward by 11 nursing technicians in February 2019. The analyses considered descriptive statistics. Results: the judges analyzed the instrument with a content validity index of 91.7% and made suggestions, which led to the second version of the instrument. The participants reported that the predominant modality of shift handover is oral, in the nursing room, lasting six to ten minutes. Most pay attention during shift change, mention that delays and early departures interfere in the activity and believe that the instrument provides the necessary information and is viable. Conclusions: the instrument built was validated, and its application proved relevant, as it was considered necessary and feasible.

ABSTRACT Objective: To know the performance of nursing professionals in accredited outpatient radiology and diagnostic imaging services. Methods: Exploratory, qualitative study, conducted in January 2019, through interview with 21 coordinators in three outpatient imaging services in the Southeast region of Brazil. A textual corpus was formed and processed by a software and the data was analyzed using Reinert’s method. Results: After the organization of the content, two thematic blocks were elaborated: nursing assignments when assisting imaging exams, with three classes with similar content; and nursing and patient safety in radiology, with two classes with similar content. Conclusion: Nursing had a relevant role in quality management, developing actions to mitigate risks and damages, recording and managing adverse events and acting in educational processes, focusing on the quality of care and of images from the perspective of patient safety.
