Atuação da enfermagem no contexto da Estrada de Ferro Madeira-Mamoré (1907-1930).

Objective: to identify the work of nursing professionals in the context of the MadeiraMamoré Railway (1907-1930). Method: historical research with a qualitative approach, comprising the construction, operation and deactivation of the Madeira-Mamoré Railway. Data collection took place from December 2020 to February 2021, with thehelp of a pre-prepared instrument in books, articles, manuals and other documents in the written press. The stages of survey, data organization, critical evaluation, presentation and interpretation of data were completed. Results: identified nine nurses working at Hospital da Candelária and other public health sectors in Rondônia. He noted the visibility of male nurses. There is also a record of the work of two North American nurses, and it is believed that they came to assist in providing assistance to railroad workers, before 1920. Conclusion: the gender issue may be related to greater political engagement or representation of strength and resistance in the face of precarious health conditions. The lack of availability of nurses or the need for other nursing practices may have contributed to the arrival of foreign nurses, drawing attention and giving visibility to the profession in the media.
