Research has been conducted on the zirconium amide-iodide complexes. The synthesis of these complexes has been carried out in investigating their ability to be used as chemical vapor deposition precursors to zirconium nitride films and the results are reported.

Research has been conducted on the hydrogen chloride. The computational results of the hydrogen chloride elimination from Cl (sub)3 GaNH (sub)3 and intermediates' gas-phase polymerization are presented.

Research has been conducted on the chemical bonding in group III nitrides. The evolution of this bonding from the N-N bond dominated small clusters to the M-N bond dominated crystals has been investigated and the details are reported.

Research has been conducted on the nitridorhenium(V) complexes. The synthesis of these complexes, their excited states and their energy trend studied via the use of the molecular orbital analysis have been investigated and are discussed.

Research has been conducted on molecular nitrogen. The reaction of a nucleophilic molybdenum(VI) nitride with the electrophilic osmium(VI) nitride has been studied and the results indicate that the coupling reaction produces a heterobimetallic mu-nitrido complex.

Research has been conducted on the gallium silylamido complexes. The synthesis of these complexes has been carried out and the results indicate that the formation of the [PhGa{N(SiMe (sub)2 Ph) (sub)2}(mu-Cl)] (sub)2 and [MeGaCl (sub)2] (sub)2 compounds are the product of the phenyl and methyl group transfer from the amide's silyl group to the gallium center.

Research has been conducted on the metallic interstitial nitride Ni (sub)3 N. The preparation of this nitride from Ni(NH (sub)3) (sub)6 Cl (sub)2 and NaNH (sub)2 has been carried out in the supercritical ammonia and the the results are reported.

Nitridation of c-plane sapphire is often used in molecular beam epitaxy of GaN to improve crystalline quality in deposited layers. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, reflection high and low energy electron diffraction, Auger sputter profiling and atomic force microscopy, were used to investigated the chemical and structural properties of sapphire (0001) substrate on exposure to nitrogen. A monolayer of surface nitride formed after around 60 minutes of nitridation.

Research has been conducted on the ternary nitride Ca (sub)2 GeN (sub)2. The study of the nitride's electronic structure carried out via the first-principles density functional calculations is presented.

Research has been conducted on the superconducting compounds which contain transition metals other than copper. The synthesis and structural characterization of the (SrO)(SrNbO (sub)2-x N) (sub)n (n= 1,2) has been carried out and the results indicate that these compounds constitute Ruddlesden-Popper strontium niobium oxynitrides and provide layered parent structures.
