1. Prevalencia del consumo de bebidas energizantes en estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de la Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-2024

- Abstract
Background: Energy drinks are a type of drink with a stimulating and energetic contribution due to their high content of caffeine, taurine and other ingredients. Objective: Determine the prevalence of consumption of energy drinks among students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Cuenca, 2023 – 2024.Methodology: a study was carried out with a quantitative, observational approach. Cross – Sectional with a sample of 321 students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Cuenca. A survey developed by the authors is applied. Microsoft Excel and the SPSS program were used for the analysis. Results: 51% of participants consumed anergy drinks in the last six months; 50% consumed these drinks less than one a week; Regarding the most consumed beverage brands, the V220® brand was the one that predominated with 74%; Reading the reason for consumption with, 43,9% consumed it to study; the exam period was the time of highest consumption with 43,5%; 69,5% of participants sometimes obtained the expected effects; As for the students who mixed energy drinks with the other substances, 31.2% did, of which 54.2% mixed them with coffee. Conclusion: The study assumes that the prevalence of consumption among students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Cuenca is 51%.
