Abstract
- Background: Death has always been a subject of deep meditation and reflection in people, it is a natural phenomenon, characteristic of all living beings, it is one of the events that evokes the most feelings, both for the person themselves, as well as for their close contact networks and for those who care for them within a health area (1). Objective: To determine the attitudes and coping with death in the nursing staff of Hospital Homero Catanier Crespo, Azogues, 2024. Methodology: quantitative observational descriptive study, the universe was composed of nursing graduates and assistants in the ICU and clinic areas. Two questionnaires were used for this research: a) Death Attitude Questionnaire (CAM), and b) Bugen's Death Coping Scale. Results: participation of 49 members, including graduates and nursing assistants, with respect to attitudes towards death; it was found that 25% are within the cognitive component (passage or transit and exit or solution); followed by 25% who are within the affective component (avoidance and acceptance), and finally 50% are within the behavioral component (fear and professional perspective). Regarding coping with death, 49% have a bad coping, 12.2% have a neutral coping and 38.8% have a good coping with death. Conclusions: the majority have attitudes within the cognitive component (passage or transit and exit or solution), and poor coping with death
