Unique and novel size dependent structural and physical properties with wide applications attracts the interest of scientific community to study of rare earth doped spinel ferrites. In the present investigation, sol–gel auto-ignition process was employed to synthesize the compositions CoCr0.2CexFe1.8−xO4 (x = 0.0, 0.025, 0.050, 0.075, 0.1) sintered at significant temperature of 800 °C for 6 h. The structure and phase purity of the samples was analysed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. Increasing cerium concentration enhances the lattice lengths of cubic spinels from 8.3839 to 8.3965 Å. The cation distribution suggests that the Co2+ ions occupy octahedral–B site and larger Ce3+ ions replace smaller Fe3+ ions at octahedral-B sites. Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) confirmed the metal–oxygen (M–O) stretching bonds at tetrahedral–A and octahedral–B sites confirming the spinel structure of the samples. Elastic parameters were determined from FTIR data and have been studied in the light of Ce3+ substitution. Surface morphology of the samples have been studied by using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy which reveals the narrow size distribution with nanoparticles of size nearly 50 nm. Vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) technique was employed to understand the magnetic behaviour of the samples, where the room temperature saturation magnetization was decreased from 72.07 to 65.86 emu/g and coercivity increased from 277 to 918 Oe with Ce3+ substitution. Frequency dependent dielectric parameters like Dielectric constant, dielectric loss and dielectric loss tangent shows decreasing trend with the increase of frequency. Synthesis of three metal complexes, Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) by using novel Schiff base as 6,6'((1E,l'E)- ((1,3phenylenebis(methylene))bis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(2,4dibromophenol). All these complexes were characterized using 1H NMR, FTIR, XRD, and TGA. The Complexes synthesized metal ion: ligand ratio 1:1. The Schiff base ligand and their metal complexes were screened for antibacterial, and antifungal activity tested, and compared with the standard. The anticancer activity of Schiff base and their metal complexes tested against MCF -7 human breast cell line shows moderate to good activity. A field experiment was conducted at ARS, Repoli (180.18' North latitude and 730.32' East longitude), to study the bioefficacy and phytotoxicity of Carfentrazone-Ethyl40% DF in direct seeded rice during Summer (January) of 2018. Sweet corn is one of the most important and versatile emerging cereal crop contributing to economic security of the farmers in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. It is a potential crop in rabi season where irrigation facility is available. An investigation was carried out to evaluate the response of sweet corn to irrigation and fertigation grown in manad soils of Raigad district during the rabi seasons of 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 at Agriculture Research Station, Repoli, Tal. Mangaon, Dist. Raigad (Maharashtra) with the objective of saving irrigation water and fertilizers. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with fifteen treatment combinations of three drip irrigation and five fertigation levels. A treatment with recommended package of practice for sweet corn was maintained separately as control. N, P2O5 and K2O was applied through fertigation in six equal splits at 15 days interval in all fertigation treatments by using water soluble fertilizers. Analysis of the pooled data revealed that the number of cobs ha-1 (71825) and cob yield (18.86 t ha-1) of sweet corn was significantly higher at irrigation level of 80% ETc, but was at par with irrigation level of 60% ETc. While, fertigation level of 80% of recommended N, P and K recorded significantly higher number of cobs ha-1 (74871) and cob yield (20.87 t ha-1) of sweet corn, however it was at par with fertigation level of 100% of recommended N, P and K. The interaction between the treatments were non-significant except during the 2016-27 season. Based on additional net returns of ₹15844 with incremental cost benefit ratio of 0.44 over control, application of irrigation at 80% ETc along with fertigation of 80% of recommended N, P and K through drip may be recommended for growing rabi sweet corn in the irrigated areas of Konkan region in Maharashtra.
